i actually can't deal with characters who objectively MUST have fucked up and weird relationships with their bodies. five hargreeves... chase davenport... echo bad batch... jason todd????... wade wilson?!?!?!?... link loz?!?!?!!?... ZELDA LOZ?!?!!?!?!?
#if it's not clear this post is about like. characters who have those fucked up feelings for fantastical reasons#whether being stuck in the “wrong” body or being able to regenerate or rebirth or being bionic#to be clear some of these are like... i think everyone whos bionic in lab rats probably has a weird relationship with their body#but chase especially as someone who gets like attacked a lot (and i think hurt more than anyone in the show?)#and someone who is enhanced like bree and adam but not PHYSICALLY in the way they are#like. idk. i think its particularly weird for him. thats a whole other post#its mostly the having a chip jammed into your neck + hes my favorite so hes mentioned here#also btw any character like this is a trans allegory by nature#lab rats#tua#the umbrella academy#the bad batch#dc comics#deadpool#legend of zelda#link loz#zelda loz#chase davenport#five hargreeves#wade wilson#jason todd#aylo talks#mine

lab rats 🤝 chappell roan
inspired by @imasimpcentral
this is going off 97% vibes at 3% character analysis (i love chappell but there's def a 60/40 chance that some of these takes are not good interpretations)
femininomenon: tasha and bree fs
"stuck in the suburbs, you're folding his laundry" omg tasha my girl you deserved so much better than the man child billionare
if the boys kept up with playing instruments, bree def would've got them to learn this song
red wine supernova: literally everyone this song is so addicting
after midnight: also addicting and i want to say everyone but donald bc he doesn’t deserve it
I imagine chase playing this to hype himself up when he has plans to go out
coffee: omg adam, bree, and chase without question
"nowhere else is safe, every place leads back to your place" I know it's alluding to the couple ending up together but in the context of lab rats, abc can never get away from davenport and the bionic life. they never even get the chance to consider something
"you'll say that your sorry, I know it's a lie"
"if i didn't love you, it would be fine" omg this post by @texanmarcusdavenport
casual: Bree, Leo, Chase, and Douglas
basically anyone who struggled with relationships in the show tbh
someone would catch douglas singing the song and join him like that scene from friends
super graphic ultra modern girl: bree has this on repeat
adam brings just enough girly pop energy
leo too
one day tasha walks in on the kids dancing to it and joins in
chase walks in and slowly joins in like that scene from abott elementary
tumblr won't let me post another video so i made an extra post for the video
HOT TO GO!: obviously this goes to our two cheerleaders, adam and bree
davenport would be the person who tries to changed the dance routine
tasha would try to add to it or build a routine for the rest of the song bc she likes to be invovled
omg tasha would make them cheer outfits just so they could wear them for these songs
My Kink Is Karma: both davenport brothers tbh (mainly Douglas)
i didn't want to give donald one but if we ever saw him actually process the fact that his brother faked his death just to come back to attack his family and then get a parner and be more evil, this would be his song
douglas listens to this after leaving his partnership with krane
omg wait he would think about giselle too
Picture You: all of the siblings
"do you picture me like I picture you" -> am i the child you wanted? are you the dad I wanted?
are you the dad I deserve?
this is def me just interpreting this one line
Kaleidoscope: tasha, bree, chase, leo, and adam
tasha deserved to be treated better and fully acknowledged
bree, chase, and leo all had those messy coming-of-age relationships
adam doesn't relate to this song in the sense of romantic love bc he didn't have relationships (and i fully support the aroarce!Adam head cannon)
this still applies to the familial love and relationship with davenport
Pink Pony Club: @imasimpcentral put it best here but this is all the siblings
they're literally trapped in mission creek/bionic island
they can never leave the bionic life
they were all trying to prove themselves
leo the most during the bionic island season honestly
Naked In Manhattan: this song is so first relationship so all of the kids
bree basically modeled her life after high school movies after she was allowed out of the lab so this song is like nostalgia for her
adam vibes with the song but again he's aroace in my mind
i feel like chase would blush like crazy when he actually listens to the lyrics
i don't have a clear mindset with leo but i like to think that he vibes with chappell
California: all siblings – adam, bree, chase, and leo OH MY GOD MARCUS
specifically in the bionic rebellion for abc
they were thrown into the world of mentoring and then their top students rebelled
i think by that season they stopped caring about davenport but i feel like a small part of them has a lingering feeling of failure
when it comes to leo i just think about every time he tried to do something alone
"i'd make you proud. to think I almost had it going, but I let you down."
marcus literally did everything douglas asked him to and then came back to essentially complete his mission
and when he came back, he was working to make giselle proud just a bit
Guilty Pleasure: bree and chase
bree ached for normal life the most of all the siblings
she also fell for the bad guy
chase wanted friends so badly he could resonate with this song
#song headcannons#we aren't going to talk about how long i put off posting this#if you think i'm wrong please share i love yapping with people#lab rats#adam davenport#bree davenport#chase davenport#donald davenport#leo dooley#tasha davenport#donald davenport hate#douglas davenport

something special.
pairing: chase davenport x reader an: this is purely self-indulgent because i’ve been re-watching Lab Rats and I forgot just how much i loved Chase lmao I’m about four years too late to this fandom but oh well 🤷🏻♀️this is also unedited so... woops. word count: 2k+
“I’m late.” Those were the first words out of his mouth once the dust settled. “She’s going to think I’m not coming,” were the next.
Bree and Adam couldn’t believe what they were hearing as they rushed over to their brother to help him to his feet. They had just managed to stop a massive explosion at the power plant a town over from theirs, and it had been one of the most taxing missions in a while. Bree and Adam were exhausted. They had no idea how Chase was even thinking clearly as he had been the one to take the brunt of the last bit of action.
“Dude, what are you talking about?” Adam asked, as he pulled Chase up and draped his arm over his shoulder. “We need to get you home.”
Chase adamantly shook his head as he tried to pull away, his feet stumbling slightly as he now fell into Bree instead. There was a panicked look on his face, and it was not from the intense situation that he had just gotten himself out of.
“No, no. YN. We had a date planned, she’s… she’s going to be upset if I’m not there.”
Suddenly, it all made sense. Adam and Bree exchanged a look as Chase stood up a little bit straighter. He wasn’t just babbling nonsense. He was babbling about you.
“I’m sure she’ll understand, but Chase, you aren’t fit to go anywhere. You can barely stand,” Bree murmured carefully as Chase quickly turned to look at her.
“Bree, I’m fine. I just… I have to go,” he insisted, and he quickly turned back to the transport that had brought the three of them to the power plant, forcing Bree and Adam to follow behind him. Bree looked to Adam for some assistance, but instead of support, she found him shrugging instead.
“He’s right. If he found a girl that’s willing to put up with him, he really needs to find a way to make it work. Who knows if he’ll find another girl as cool as her again.” Bree rolled her eyes and huffed as they continued making their way in the direction that Chase had disappeared to. Despite having so much taken out of him, he was moving surprisingly fast.
No one spoke the entire ride back, and as soon as they reached their house, Chase immediately turned and headed in the opposite direction.
“Tell Mr. Davenport I’ll be back,” he called over his shoulder, and while Bree could have easily caught up with him, and Adam could have easily stopped them, neither one of them did. Maybe they should have, but they could tell from the look in his eye how much this meant to him. Once he was with you, they had no doubts that he would be in good hands.
“I can’t believe he’s just going like this. He didn’t even change,” Bree mused, and Adam looked down at her.
“She already knows our secret. It’s not like she hasn’t seen him in his mission suit before. In fact, I’m sure it’s probably the best outfit he owns.” Bree rolled her eyes again, and the two of them headed inside to get some rest themselves.
Chase, on the other hand, was on a whole new mission. He had promised you that he would meet you at the ice cream shop nearby, and he was supposed to be there almost an hour ago. He didn’t have his phone on him, and he had no idea if you would still be there, but he could hope. Hope was all that was keeping him from collapsing on the side of the road.
He didn’t even stop once to think about his appearance. He didn’t bother getting cleaned up or changing his outfit, so imagine your surprise when you stepped out of the ice cream shop, just as he was walking up, and turned to see him covered in ash and soot.
“Chase?” The sound of your voice cut him out of his trance, and Chase felt like he had found his second wind. The look on your face was filled with worry, but that didn’t stop him from rushing into your arms, pulling you into a hug as he pressed his face into your neck.
“I was afraid I missed you,” he murmured against your skin just before pulling away. Your hands immediately came up to cup his cheeks, your eyes scanning his face for any signs of injury.
“Did you just come from a mission?” You asked quietly so that no one could overhear you. You backed him away from the door and towards the side of the building so that people inside the shop couldn’t see him through the window and question the strange outfit he was wearing. “Why are you still in your suit?”
Chase didn’t look down at his outfit as he was too busy studying your face. He had a photographic memory, but the mental images of you never compared to the real thing. He was always captivated by every freckle and dimple, no matter how many times he saw them.
“I’m sorry I’m late,” he replied, ignoring your previous questions. “Things took a little bit longer than we expected, but then I rushed straight here. I didn’t… I didn’t want you to think that I stood you up on purpose.”
The expression on your face softened as he spoke, and your hand caressed his cheek gently. Sure, while you had been confused about where he could be for the past hour, you knew that something had to have come up. It wasn’t like Chase to leave you hanging. And considering you knew about his bionics, you were sure there was a logical reason. You had been correct.
“You could have just called me when you got home,” you told him as his head leaned into your touch. “I would have understood. But you look exhausted. You should probably get home.”
“No!” He interjected instantly, causing you to jump. “I mean, no. I want to be here. I want to be with you. Right now.” You smiled softly before nodding.
“Can I at least get you some ice cream?” It was Chase’s turn to nod.
Since he was still dressed in his special mission suit, you went in to order by yourself, and then you brought it back out so that he could eat it while the two of you walked back in the direction of his house. You weren’t going to rush him inside, but you knew that he needed to be close to home in case he started to crash.
“You really are a mess, though,” you laughed, just as Chase managed to get a spot of ice cream on his nose. “Where was your mission? The dump?”
“Power plant, actually. There was a lot of dust from the fire that almost caused an explosion.”
“Fire? Explosion?” Your steps had come to a stop as you felt your heart plummet to your feet. “Chase, you were…”
It took a minute for his own words to process, and then his eyes widened as he stepped towards you. The ice cream in his hand was forgotten as he reached out for you.
“It’s fine, I’m fine! I promise. It was just a little thing, and we managed to put a stop to it before it got too bad.” You hated the way your body had reacted to the description of his mission, and you couldn’t stop yourself from folding yourself into him as his arms wrapped around you. You knew that he got mixed up in some dangerous things, but you never really thought about how dangerous.
Chase didn’t move for several seconds as he held you until you realized how ridiculous you were being. He had just been (almost) involved in an explosion, and he was the one holding you? It seemed a little backwards.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” You asked as you leaned your head back to look at him. He nodded before leaning in and resting his head against yours.
I’m perfect now.”
His words were so quiet and soft, you weren’t sure that you were meant to hear them, but when they hit your ears, your stomach filled with butterflies. You had no idea how you had managed to find yourself here, in this position, but you wouldn’t change it for the world.
You and Chase had only recently started hanging out, and you knew before that he had a crush on you. You had a crush on him too. There was always something about him that held your attention, even though everyone else at school seemed to think that he was weird. He was smarter than most people, and when you had stumbled upon his bionic abilities by accident, you had learned just how true that was. Now, as you stood on the sidewalk just down the street from his house, with his arm around you, you were more grateful than ever that he had finally mustered up the courage to ask you out before you had to do it yourself.
“Chase,” you whispered as he lifted his head away from yours, his green eyes meeting yours curiously. You didn’t have anything else that you wanted to say, but you wanted him to be looking at you so that you could gauge his reaction as you lifted your hand to cup his cheek once more before moving in closer. The two of you had never shared a moment like this one before, and while you weren’t sure that the timing was perfect, you couldn’t wait any longer.
You and Chase hadn’t kissed before, and you knew that he was nervous about it. You were sure that there had been a few times he almost did, but then he chickened out. Chase was great at a lot of things, but knowing how to act around a girl that he liked was not one of them. This only became more clear as you leaned in closer, and he remained motionless, his eyes fixed on you, as if he had no idea what to do.
Slowly, your eyes slipped shut as you completely closed the distance between you, your lips pressing against his gently. As you kept them pressed together, you felt Chase sigh as his body melted against yours before finally kissing you back. You couldn’t quite explain the feeling that spread through you, but when you did finally break apart, you already knew that you couldn’t wait to do it again.
The look on Chase’s face was one of pure adoration, and you felt like putty in his hands. You had never met someone that could affect you in such a way with just one look, but here you were.
“I could go on a thousand missions like the one today if I had this waiting at the end of it,” he whispered softly, and you felt your heart jump in your chest as a bright smile spread across your face.
“Play your cards right, and it just might,” you teased back as your finger tapped his nose, causing his own smile to grow.
“Thank you for understanding,” he added a moment later. “I know this has to be confusing, and I know that it sucks when I get called out when we have plans but I…”
“You don’t have to explain,” you cut in, your arm falling away from him as you slipped your hand into his free one. “I get it.”
And you did. You knew it and Chase knew it, and it was one of the reasons he was so crazy about you. For most of the day, every day, Chase had to pretend to be something that he wasn’t. Normal. But with you, he could be exactly who he was. There was no holding back, there were no secrets, and he never wanted there to be. He didn’t know a lot about love or relationships, but he knew you were different, and he knew that whatever life threw at him next, he wanted you there with him.
Despite the chaos, you wanted the same thing. Chase was special in more ways than one, and you were grateful that you were the one that got to see just how much.

Shifting Balance of Power
Neumann clearly works for Vought. She destroyed the hearing and both saved Vought from anything Voglebaum could reveal and made sure company got that Compound V contract (5 mil a dose). She killed Raynor for figuring out who Stormfront is and then killed Adana for revealing it and losing Vought that government contract. And for wanting to reveal more supes secrets - bad for company. The only thing I wonder why do it herself. The exploded heads are pretty signature move and she no longer can blame it on Stormfront.
So I still think she works directly for Edgar. It makes perfect sense to have someone embedded on both sides polarizing the public. Stormfront to rail up one and Neuman the other. In times of strife and uncertainty there is money to be made. And I’m still sure Edgar had a plan to take Stormfront out once she became superfluous - he says he needs her for now - this was just too soon and money was lost. No wonder he was unhappy with documents getting out.
Especially since they also lost Ryan. Homelander’s son is out of their hands and he no longer has a mother and that fucked up a lot of contingencies. Although with Mallory reporting to Neuman he should be able to remedy that.
I really, really hate it that they killed off Becca. And that’s she’s dead because Butcher had a change of heart and decided to be decent and put her and Ryan needs before his own. This is not going to make anything any better for wither him or Ryan.
Becca’s death - for real this time - means Ryan no longer has a mother. And what worse Ryan caused her death while trying to save her. And mutilated a person (very evil person who tried to killed his mother but still a person). And saw who his father really is. And then the last person he has connection with - Butcher - leaves him with strangers. I wonder if he can grow up fine.
After all it was clear Homelander was telling the truth about his childhood and his feelings of loneliness and how hard it was to be America’s Golden Boy. All the celebrity bullshit that messes up even normal kids not to mention ones raised in a lab by people who are afraid of them. While Stormfront was just salivating at the opportunities Ryan presented Homelander actually seemed to want to connect with Ryan. And give him everything that he lacked. Too bad he’s total psycho.
This is not getting any better. He sure can still lie on TV but the loss of control and no one in his life to anchor him he clearly is going to lose it. Question is how soon.
But at least for now Queen Maeve rules this shitshow. Annie’s plea worked and she came to save the day. I was so happy she didn’t die. That instead she is the big, damn hero. She saved everyone and took out all the antagonists - from Black Noir to kicking the shit out of Stormfront to blackmailing Homelander into giving them everything they wanted.
It was so satisfying to see the three of them - Kimiko, Annie and Maeve - kicking the shit out of Stormfront while the guys watched. It nicely mirrored the fake scene in the movie with three women - blonde, redhead and brunette - coming together to save the day. Only this time they switched brunettes and they actually worked together for real. Girls get it done.
There was also certain poetic justice in Stormfront failing because of the people she thought too below her. From the black man she disrespected at every turn to Asian woman whose brother she killed to women she disrespected (she was professing feminism but she only cared for boys). And then she was destroyed by the same boy she told how to hate. Her downfall was all her own doing. But she’s not dead so I wonder if she can comeback as some bionic monster.
And last note - I really liked how after a season of trying to humanise both The Deep and Homelander the ending reminded us what kind of shitty people they really are. Yes, their backstories are sad and you wish you could’ve saved them then but what they are now doesn’t deserve redemption.

Pretty Boy || Lab Rats ||
Requested: Hey! I'm a huge fan of Lab Rats &I always LOOOVE Chase but curious about hero front of it (i haven't gotten to see the new Elite Force yet!) I'm kinda curious how he would do with a gf when they were in high school that was kept a secret and he finds out by fluke she's a super? If it is too much to ask for you can ignore this, I just need fluffy Chase with superGF and secret relationship because why not? Everything else is a secret?? (Cookie)
Pairing: Chase Davenport x Reader
Warnings: A lil bit of swearing
Words: 2.5K
A/N: Hi! This is done! A little shitty but I feel proud of it. To the anon who requested this, I hope it came out to your liking. The ending was a little cheesy but that’s because I don’t know how to write... :D
It was the end of the day and you were standing in front of your locker, putting away what you didn’t need and grabbing what you did. You had a knee up, pressed against the lockers to keep your bag steady as you tried to neatly stuff it with material. You felt arms snake around your waist, almost making you lose your balance from the slight surprise. But you knew who it was, a smile appeared on your face as you zipped up your bag so you could give your attention to your boyfriend.
“And to what do I owe this display of affection,” You mused, leaning into his embrace.
“For being so cute,” He answered, planting a kiss on top of your head.
“Well not that I’m complaining but someone might see us. And if I remember correctly, you wanted to keep our relationship a secret, for whatever reason,” You said, hearing him sigh, making your smile stretch wider.
You loved teasing him, especially since he’s such a touchy-feely kind of guy and couldn’t show it out in public. Why? Well, he wanted to keep your relationship between the two of you, something about wanting to enjoy it before others found out. But it’s not like you minded, it just meant you got him all to yourself without having to worry about anyone interrupting.
You felt him unwrap his arms around you and you turned to look at him, a frown on his face. He saw the teasing glint in your eyes and rolled his own at you. He knew that you didn’t actually want an answer and just wanted to get a rise out of him. You understood his reasoning for keeping your relationship a secret and you were more than okay with it.
“I’m joking. Do you have any training today? We can go back to mine, do our homework and then watch some movies,” You suggested.
“Nope, I’m all yours this afternoon,” He replied, grinning widely.
“Great, let’s go,” You said, matching his smile.
The two of you were heading out the doors when you heard a phone go off. Chase dug around in his pocket and pulled out his phone, a familiar look crossing his face. You knew that look, it meant that he just got a mission alert and your plans were being thrown out the window. He looked over at you, a guilty look on his face that further confirmed your suspicions.
“Mission alert?” You questioned.
You looked up at him, he had a hard look on his face that said it was a bad one. “Yeah, it looks like there was a bridge collapse. There are still tons of civilians trapped.”
“Oh my god! Go! Go be a hero please,” You said, practically pushing out the school doors.
Chase smiled at you, glad to have such an understanding and accepting girlfriend. He looked around the area, making sure no one was looking your way. When he was sure the two of you were in the clear, he gave you a quick peck on the cheek. You wanted to return the kiss but he was gone before you could, but just in time too. You felt your own phone vibrate, looks like duty called for you too.
By the time you got there, the bionic trio were already there, doing what they could. Bree was speeding citizens off the bridge while Chase and Adam worked at keeping the bridge up. You noticed a cable wire snap off, heading straight for Chase. You flew over to it, reaching it just a couple inches before it hit Chase. He heard the noise of the falling cable, looking over to it and barely reacting to it. Just when he thought it was going to crush him, it stopped inches away.
You threw it to the side, revealing your superhero form to Chase. “It’s you!” He exclaimed.
“Hey, pretty boy, missed me?” You asked, a flirty tone in your voice.
He huffed and rolled his eyes at your flirty nature and the nickname you dubbed him with. “No... but thanks for the save, I owe you one.”
“Anytime, pretty boy. Now fill me in on the situation,” You replied.
“The bridge is on the verge of collapsing. Adam and I are doing our best to keep the bridge up while Bree super speeds everyone off. But we’re running out of time and there’s still civilians trapped on the bridge,” Chase explained.
“Got it. I’ll help in what ever way I can,” You said.
You flew off to help civilians and making sure the bridge didn’t collapse any further. You were helping a couple of trapped people, not noticing the cable wire that was about to snap off. You got them out of there safely, just in time for the cable to come flying off. It hit and sent you flying downwards, shock rippled through you at the sudden hit. The shock rendered you unable to think straight, the only thing going through your head was how you were going to pummel into the ground.
You closed your eyes and braced yourself for painful impact but it never came. Instead you found yourself in strong steady arms. You opened your eyes and saw Chase staring down at you, a worried look on his face. For a second you forgot you were in your hero attire and not civilian clothing. You had to get out of his embrace before he recognized it was you behind the mask. He didn’t quite know about your alter-ego yet and this isn’t exactly how you wanted him to find out.
“Ah, um, I have a boyfriend!” You exclaimed, leaping out of his embracing and crashing onto the ground.
Seriously, that was the first thing you decided to say, how freaking embarrassing. You didn’t want to get off the ground, not after shouting something like that out.
“Um, sure. I wasn’t trying to imply anything,” He said, confused by your sudden outburst.
“Right sorry, I'm just not used to be saved. Thanks, pretty boy,” You replied.
“Yeah no problem. Bree got everyone safely of the bridge, we have to get off before the whole bridge collapses on us,” Chase told you.
He stretched his hand out for you to take, helping you up once you did. You raced off the bridge once you were up, just in time as the rest of it collapsed. You left the civilians in the hands of the paramedics and the police.
“So, are you finally gonna tell us who you are?” Chase asked once you were all far away enough.
“Sorry, pretty boy, but that’s one secret I can’t reveal,” You told him.
He rolled his eyes, expecting that answer. “Right, sure. You get to know who we are but we don’t.”
“Hey, just because you revealed your identity to the world doesn’t mean I have to. Some things are sacred,” You replied. “Anyway, look at the time, I have to get going. See you around, pretty boy.”
You left before Chase had the chance to say anything, making him sigh heavily. You had a tendency to do that, leave with the last word. It really irked him, more so since he knew nothing about you. You just showed up out of the blue, helping them on a mission that was going badly. They appreciated the help, and all the help after that but they were still a little weary about you. They didn’t know you so they didn’t know if they could completely trust you. More so since they weren’t sure what you were, some of your abilities weren’t bionic.
You got home and changed into something more comfortable before flopping onto your bed. You sighed and let yourself relax, today was a little more stressful than expected. You had gotten a little too close to Chase today, you were lucky he didn’t recognize you. If he had, that would have been such an awkward conversation that you weren’t ready to have. Or rather one you were scared to have.
How do you tell your boyfriend that you’re a superhero? You didn’t want him to freak out, especially since the world of superheroes was a well-kept secret. Specifically, because of how the public might react. You didn’t want to scare him away, you had to handle this delicately and well thought out.
Your phone started ringing, snapping you out of your thoughts; speak of the devil. “Hey babe! How was the bridge mission?”
“We managed to save everyone but the bridge still collapsed. She showed up again though,” He told you.
“Ah yes, this mystery hero. How was it this time? Was she still helpful?” You asked, pretending as if you knew nothing.
“Yeah, she helped us get everyone off faster. Although, something weird did happen. She got hit by a cable wire and almost fell to the ground but I managed to catch her. She freaked out though, I don’t know why,” He explained.
“Ha, what a weirdo. Maybe she was mesmerized by how hot you are,” You joked.
“Right, I’m sure that’s what it was. Seriously though, it was weird how she reacted like that.”
“Alright, calm down pretty boy. I’m sure she just didn’t expect the save.”
“Wait...What did you just say?”
“I said calm down pr—Shit. Uh, I gotta go.”
You quickly hung up the phone before he could say anything, tossing it to the side. You groaned loudly and threw both hands over your face. How could you be so stupid? You never called him pretty boy, at least not in your civilian form. That’s how you separated yourself from girlfriend and superhero. As his girlfriend, you didn’t need to try so hard because you were already together. And not to mention the whole let’s keep our relationship a secret thing. But as a superhero, you had more range of motion and could flirt and tease him because it didn’t mean anything.
But now, you’ve crossed that line and there was no going back. You felt your phone vibrate next to you, you didn’t have to check to see that it was Chase calling. You ignored it, waiting until it stopped ringing before you turned it off completely. You’d no doubt that he had figured it out by now, he knew that you were this mysterious supergirl. You had no choice but to tell him the truth now, but you didn’t know if you could actually face him. What if he leaves you because you lied to him, because you kept such a huge secret from him? The thought scared you more than anything, you couldn’t risk Chase leaving you. You loved him, like really loved; he was the first guy that really ever understood you.
You sighed heavily, feeling defeated and stupid, there really was no getting out of this one. Out of all the stupid things you could’ve done, this was the one you had to pick. Lucky for you though, tomorrow was the start of the weekend so you could just avoid Chase until Monday. You sighed again, no point in exhausting yourself with this right now. It wouldn’t change anything; Chase would still know about your secret identity. You should just get some sleep and figure this out in the morning.
You were stirred out of your slumber by loud pounding coming all the way from your front door. Who the hell was knocking this early in the morning? You reluctantly crawled out of bed and headed downstairs, grumpy that someone disrupted your sleep.
You opened the door, barely registering who was behind it. “Can I hel—Chase?”
“Finally! Do you know how worried I’ve been? I thought something happened to you,” He exclaimed.
“I can explain, wait, you were worried?” You questioned.
“Yes! I mean, I’m still really confused about all of this. But my first priority is making sure you’re okay,” He said, face softening in worry.
Your heart did a jump against your chest, he was more worried about you than your big secret. God, how could you ever think he’d leave you. “I’m sorry. I just panicked, this was never supposed to happen. But, now that it has, I owe you an explanation.”
You invited him in and walked over to the couch where the two of you sat down. Silence engulfed the two of you while you tried to find the right words to say. Where do you start?
“So, why didn’t you tell me?” He asked, breaking the silence.
You took a deep breath before starting your explanation. “I was going to tell you, eventually, I just didn’t know how. I’m mean I can’t exactly just say that I’m secretly a superhero, especially since we’re supposed to stay secret.”
“Okay, but that doesn’t explain why you couldn’t tell me. I mean, I’m your boyfriend, I thought you’d at least have a little more trust in me,” He said.
“No, you’re right, you’re absolutely right. I didn’t tell you because I was scared of how you’d you react. I didn’t want you to leave because of this, because you found out your girlfriend was a superhero with superpowers. Superpowers and bionics are completely different, my abilities can’t be explained with science. I didn’t want that to freak you out. And I know, I should have trusted you with this. I’m sorry, but now that you know, I hope you still decide to be my boyfriend.”
“Are you kidding, of course I still want to be your boyfriend. I mean, I still don’t understand all of this, superpowers just sound ridiculous. But if its you, I’m willing to learn more and understand all this superhero stuff.”
“Really, you mean it? I mean, I totally understand if this is too weird for you.”
“Yes really. I love you and I want to know everything about you, even the weird superhero thing.”
You smiled widely and jumped him, wrapping your arms around him and hugging him tight. You couldn’t be happier, Chase accepted both sides of you and now you no longer had anything to hide. You heard him laugh, feeling it vibrate off his chest as he wrapped his arms around.
“So, you’re really a superhero?” He asked, still a little shocked and confused by the sudden news.
Now it was your turn to laugh at him, you were in for a long road of explanation.

Song That The Morning Brings (Chapter Twenty One)
Steve Harrington x Henderson!Reader
catch up here
summary: They are wandering through the tunnels after escaping the elevator, Steve gets in a fight and Erica is a nerd.
warnings: cursing, violence, angst, spoilers ig
word count: 4.3k
The entire group clamors up to atop the elevator and impatiently waits for whatever is to come next. Loud beeping and clunky footsteps break the silence as the doors smoothly open up. Two large men walk into the elevator and begin grabbing boxes. The one man begins aggressively sniffing, before speaking a sentence in Russian that none of them could understand. The two have a small conversation while pulling the boxes down and taking them to somewhere outside of the elevator. Steve is laying down against the grate, eyes sealed to watching the room. Steve looks around the group, signaling to be quiet, stopping his eyes on Erica who is still holding a tube of the goo.
The door starts closing, the group waits until the Russians are out of ear shot from the elevator to jump down and begin piling out. Steve falls down to the ground and shoves the tube in between the elevator door and the floor, giving them a passage space to crawl through to get out.
“Let’s go.” Erica tosses Steve her backpack which he shoves underneath the door. He begins shuffling them all through the door, chanting “go” repetitively as the crawl under. First Erica, then Dustin, then Robin and then Y/N. They all shuffle through and stand up briskly once they reach the other side. Steve starts to climb out just as the tube begins to crack, nearly shattering.
“Stevie! Come on!” Y/N yells out to him. He slides out and away from the door just as the tube shatters, the goo burning a hole into the ground surrounding its shatter sight.
“Jesus Christ!” Steve huffs out as he stands beside the group.
“You still want to drink that?” Robin says to Erica with a twinge of superiority.
“Holy mother of God.” Slips out of Dustin’s mouth as the rest of the group turns to look at what he was seeing. The expanse of the hallway went out so far they couldn’t even fathom of seeing the end. The cool blue lights reflected off of the floor, though seemingly getting darker and darker as it stretches farther down.
“Well, hope you guys are in good shape. Looking at you, roast beef.” Steve said pushing his way to the front of the group tapping Dustin on the chest after his last remark.
“Stevie, that was mean.” Y/N said shuffling a little to catch up with Steve. The rest of the group joining slightly after Steve says, “Let’s go, come on.”
Y/N’s feet began to ache after a while, no clue how far they had walked at that point, but it didn’t seem like they were ending anytime soon. She was looking down at her feet walking in as straight of a line as she could before she felt an elbow nudge her slightly, she looked up to see Steve’s brown eyes peering down to her.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah Stevie, I’m okay. I just want to get the hell out of here.”
“Don’t we all.” She heard Robin quip from the other side of Steve. The group kept talking in small segments before Dustin started a whole other conversation.
“I mean, you have to admit, as a feat of engineering alone, this is impressive.” His voice echoed around the tunnel.
“What are you talking about? It’s a total fire hazard.” Steve remarks back to Dustin. “There’s no stairs, there’s no exit, there’s just an elevator that drops you halfway to hell.”
“They’re commies.” Erica replies to Steve. “You don’t pay people, they cut corners.”
“To be fair to our Russian comrades, I don’t think tunnel was designed for walking.”
“They were clearly on something that took them to the elevator. We just don’t know what. And I mean think about it, they have developed the perfect system for transporting that cargo.” Y/N said in response to Robin, completing her thought.
“It all comes into the mall like any old delivery.” Dustin said, before Robin replied.
“And then they load it up onto those trucks and nobody’s the wiser.”
“You think they build this whole mall just so they could transport that green poison?” Steve asked the three discussing the genius feat of the Russians.
“I mean, I don’t think it’s that simple.” Y/N replied.
“I doubt it’s that boring, just poison. It’s gotta be much more valuable like promethium or something.”
“What the hell is Promethium?” Steve quickly asked.
“It’s what Victor Stone’s dad used to make Cyborg’s bionic and cybernetic components.” Robin responded.
“You’re all so nerdy, it makes me physically ill.” Erica said, nearly gagging at the end of her sentence.
“No, no, no! Don’t lump me in with them. I’m not a nerd, alright?” Steve exclaimed towards the little girls insult.
“Why so sensitive Harrington?” Robin asked.
“Yeah, Stevie, is your ego crushed by someone calling you a nerd? Are you afraid of losing cool points to a ten year old child?” Y/N said with a slight, breathy laugh.
“No, I’m just saying I don’t know jack shit about Prometheus.”
“Promethium. Prometheus is a Greek mythological figure, but whatever. All I’m saying is it’s probably being used to make something.” Steve was corrected by Dustin
“Or power something.”
“Like a nuclear weapon.”
“Totally.”
“Walking towards a nuclear weapon. That’s great. That’d be great.” Steve said, sarcasm dripping from his voice.
“But, if they’re building something, why here?” Robin said. “ I mean, Hawkins…seriously. Of all places.” Robin kept rambling on about the obscurity of it happening in Hawkins while Y/N felt her body grow cold, as she stopped dead in her tracks. The gate was here. All of the problems from the past two years, were here. They could be trying to use whatever the hell is in Hawkins for this. Steve and Dustin both stood back and the three kept locking eyes. Y/N could feel herself going paler and paler until it was even hard to breathe. But she couldn’t make it that obvious that she was worried, especially because she wasn’t exactly sure what she was worried about.
“You think the Russians know?” Dustin asked the two standing beside him.
“About the-“ Steve was cut off by Y/N.
“They could.”
“So, it’s connected?” Steve asks the Henderson siblings.
“Maybe.” Dustin replied only to be asked another question by his sister.
“But how?”
“I don’t know but it’s…”
“Possible.” They all finished Dustin’s sentence in unison.
They all stand looking at each other. Y/N began nervously fiddling with her own hands before slowly linking her arm with Steve’s to steady herself for a second.
“I’m sorry, is there something you’d like to share with the class.” Robin yelled, cutting through the tense moment the three were experiencing. The three just keep looking from each other to Erica and Robin. The looks are put to rest when Dustin’s Supercom hisses alive as the Russian message pours through it’s speaker. They all surround it and listen intently, before Robin begins speaking along with it.
“It’s the code.”
“Wherever that broadcast is coming from-“
“It’s close.” Y/N interrupts her brother. “And if there’s one thing we know about that signal…”
“It can reach the surface.”
“Let’s go.” Robin says, pulling herself up from the floor. The entire group keeps walking along the halls, getting ready to reach the surface thanks to the walkie.
Eventually, the group reached a point of entrance in whatever this place really was. The entire group had to keep ducking and hiding behind walls and objects. Steve took the lead of the group. They had begun hiding behind a wall as multiple of the weird car like carts were passing through. They all waited a moment behind the wall before Steve kept moving. He leaned passed the wall and whispered to the group.
“Okay, clear. Clear, come on, let’s go.” The entire group rounded the corner before Robin abruptly said.
“That was close.”
“Too close!” Dustin said with an angry tone.
“Dusty, calm down.” Y/N said with Steve following closely after.
“Relax, All right? Relax. Nobody saw…” He was cut off as he entered a large room full of Russian men. They were in every nook and cranny. There was loud announcements over a speaker, that none of them could understand. The men were hustling and bustling all around, and talking to each other in strong tones. No one wasn’t moving.
The group stood staring in fear at what they had become witness to.
“Oh fuck.” Y/N said under her breath from besides Steve. They kept looking around at all of the differently uniformed people. There were ones dressed in military garb and others dressed in lab coats. Some were in business attire and others looked like average citizens. Their staring was interrupted when they almost got caught.
“Shit.” Steve whispered as he threw himself to the ground in attempts to hide, the rest of them falling in line with Steve. “Oh Jesus!”
“Red dawn.” Dustin said in a breathy voice, clearly showing he was in shock a bit.”
“What are we even looking for?” Y/N said finally asking the sacred question.
“I saw it!” Erika replied. “First floor, northwest.”
“Saw what?” Steve asked her, Y/N inevitably agreeing with his question.
“The comms room!” She whisper shouted at him
“You saw the comms room?” Steve and Y/N said in unison.
“Correct!”
“Are you sure?” Steve asked again.
“Positive. The door was open for a second, and I saw a bunch of lights and machines and shit in there.” She replied, as if it was a stupid question.
“That could be a hundred different things.” Dustin snapped reality to everyone.
“I’ll take those odds.” Robin said turning towards Steve and Y/N. Y/N looked into Steve’s eyes. Without any words, she could tell he was asking her what she thought. Somehow, she showed to him that she would do it but she was scared. He shook his head and let out an exasperated sigh. He leaned out from behind the large box they were behind, the group following suit. He leans back and they had all turned to him.
“Alright, we’re gonna move fast, we’re gonna stay low. Okay?”
“Okay.” The group all responded to him. They beginning crouching and running with quick steps from behind the box. They move to behind another large object, they were almost like grates. Y/N wrapped her hands around one of the cold metal bars in order to ground herself. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts rang through her head. Steve tapped her hand that was resting on the bar and shooed her forward, along with everyone else. They moved once again, now they were extremely close to the door to the comms room. A man walked out, and the door started to close slowly.
“Let’s go!” Steve said rushing them all to the door. They all get through the door, Steve whispering “come on” to the group as they shuffle inside. All of them facing towards the door, watching one another. They all get inside, and Steve turns around only to notice that there is still a man sitting at the control desk. He removes his headphones and turns to look at the rag tag group that just walked in. The man gives them a scared yet angry look, and all the group can do is stare back at him. He reaches for a weapon from his hip, and Robin blurts out a part of the code, reaching her hand toward him to show that she isn’t a threat. However, all this does is confuse the man who is still reaching for his weapon. He begins speaking in Russian which none of them could understand. Robin continues saying parts of the code, regardless of if they make sense or not. This cycle repeats itself a few more times before he actually starts working to get his weapon out. The scared silence is broken by Steve screaming and running straight towards him. He slams his body into the mans, shoving him back against the desk. The man immediately throws Steve over to the other desk, causing Steve to stammer a bit. He goes to throw a punch at Steve but he misses after Steve falls backwards. The man grabs Steve by the collar and throws him over to the side once more full force. Steve’s stomach hits the desk, the man grabs his neckline to turn Steve around and just as he does so, Steve’s elbow flies straight into his stomach. The man stumbles back a little bit, giving Steve just enough time to grab a hold of a wired phone in order to turn around and hit the man in the head with it. The man falls to the floor with a grown, passing out immediately. Steve stands straight up and runs his hand through his hair in efforts to actually catch his breath. Y/N couldn’t believe her eyes on what just happened.
“Dude!” Dustin yelled, causing Steve and everyone else to turn towards him. “You did it! You won a fight!” Steve glances down at the man on the floor and Y/N started giggling immediately.
“Jeez.” Steve said with a soft and breathy chuckle. Dustin runs up to the man on the floor and snags his key card from his belt.
“What are you doing?” Y/N asks her little brother, who was doing something that could potentially be very dangerous.
“Getting us our ticket out of here.”
“You want to walk all the way back?” Erica harshly replied.
“Well, we can hang out for a little bit, relax, have a picnic maybe.” Dustin said sarcastically. The two bicker a bit as Y/N goes up to Steve.
“That was stupid, but I’m proud of you. Thank you for essentially saving us.”
“Anything for you, my damsel in distress.” He makes a mocking joke, which hit Y/N in a weird way. It made her feel special, and like Steve did it exclusively for her.
“Yeah, yeah. Are you gonna brag about that now? How you won a fight against a Russian soldier?”
“Hell yeah I am! I lost to Billy and Jonathan! That’s embarrassing.”
“Oh, so you’re finally admitting to losing to J, huh?”
“Oh, shut up, no need to point it out.” She smiled at him before looking back at the group.
“Shit, where’s Robin?” As if on cue, Robin entered once again.
“Guys, there’s something up there.” She said in a worried tone, pointing to the top of the steps. As Y/N glanced up, she happened to notice the glowing and flickering light. The group ran up the steps and through the door to see what Robin was talking about. Dustin, Y/N and Steve all look forward into the space in front of them. It was the gate. Glowing and open once again, even though El had closed it less than a year ago. Y/N instinctively moved closer to Steve, pressing their bodies together gently. It made her feel slightly safer that she was with Steve, but she was still terrified.
“Holy shit.” Dustin let out with a breath. The three of them looked at one another before muttering “the gate” and continued to stare ahead at it. Y/N almost felt bad for the two other girls with them. They had no idea what this was, hell they had no idea that this even existed. She also felt concerned that it didn’t necessarily shock her that this is why they were in Hawkins. Y/N ripped herself away from the group and out of the door. Steve signaled to the other girls that it was time to go and they all ran after Y/N.
“I don’t understand, you’ve seen this before?” Robin asked, confused as to why they were rushing aware from this brand new discovery.
“Not exactly.” Steve replied.
“Then what, exactly?” Robin asked in response.
“All you need to know is it’s bad.” Dustin said, trying to catch up with his sister.
“It’s really bad.” Steve agreed.
“Like end of the human race as we know it kind of bad.” Y/N finally spoke up again after storming out.
“And you know about this how?” Robin asked the three of them, only to be distracted by Erica.
“um Steve? Where’s your Russian friend?” They all get snapped from the trance they were in and look to the floor where they had just left the soldier. Just as they do, an alarm starts blaring.
“Oh shit!” Steve starts running around , peering out the door to see that every one of the Russians are teaming up with one another to find whoever these intruders were. Except, they saw him looking. Steve slammed the door and shuffled everyone out of the room they were in. They rush from one room to another trying to find somewhere to hide. They run into the control room for the gate, and instantly run back out, trying desperately to escape the armed men. They run out onto the platform next to the laser, only to realize that it’s a dead end. Dustin begins shrieking “holy shit” over and over again, which doesn’t really help their situation. Steve looks to find an exit, and when he does he yells out to the group which way to go. They run down a set of metal steps, almost being caught by guards meeting them at the bottom. Steve pushes a few metal barrels towards them, throwing them off their track. They hurry into another room trying desperately to shut themselves inside. Steve pushes his body weight against the door.
“Help me! Help me!” Steve yells, causing Robin to rush to the door and propel herself onto it as well. Erica discovers a vent that she can climb into, yelling for Dustin and everyone else to join her. Y/N looks back to Steve to see what he wants her to do. Dustin yells out to Steve .
“Come on!”
“Go! Just get out of here! Y/N go with them! Keep them safe!” Steve yells to them as they begin piling into the vent. Right before she ducks into the vent and the Russians break through the door Y/N yells out to Steve.
“Don’t break your promise. I can’t lose you.” As soon as the vent is shut, she lets out a breath and shoos the kids along. They get a bit farther away, just enough so they can no longer hear yelling men.
“Fucking hell.” Y/N lets out, stopping the group for a moment.
“Are you okay?” Dustin asks his sister.
“Dustin, what do you think? No. Fuck me. Oh my god.” She continues to let out a string of curses while trying to figure out what they hell they should do. Her mom wandered every thought possible, but the only thing they could do was keep moving, find Steve and Robin and get the hell out. “Okay, well, we can’t stop moving or else we will die and so will Steve and Robin. So just keep crawling until we find something, someone or somewhere.”
“I don’t think that’s gonna work as well as you think it will.” Erica said from behind the girl.
“Oh really Erica? You have better ideas? Because the last time I checked, all you have been doing is giving everyone else grief. Now pipe down and let’s get moving.”
The three started to crawl through the vents until they hit fans that were cooling down the vents.
“We have to get them to stop spinning, that way we can get through. Do you have tools in your backpack?” Dustin said once they arrived at the first one.
“I have a few.” The two younger kids rummaged through the bag before taking the initiative to stop them.
“Be careful Dusty, don’t electrocute yourself.” Y/N said keeping a watchful eye over her brother. He stops the first vent after about a minute of fumbling and continues to crawl through.
“Could y’all tell me how you know this shit is bad? You got all freaked out and left.” Erica posed the question in a harsh, almost accusatory tone.
The two siblings recounted the woes of the past two years to the young girl. From the very beginning all the way up till now. They told their own sides of the stories in connection to one another. Y/N sharing about fighting off a Demogorgon and going face to face with one. She shared about fighting the Demodogs first hand and she told her perspective of the tunnels. Dusty told of the day they met Eleven and when they discovered Will wasn’t dead. He shared about his connection to Dart and then he told his stories of the night it all went down. They didn’t spare a single detail of who was there, what happened, when it happened and why it seemed to happen. Erica responded asking for it to be broken down quickly once again, leaving Y/N to run through it all.
“When we set fire to the hub, we drew the Demodogs away so El could close the gate. But now, for some insane reason, the Russians appear to be trying to reopen it, which just destroys everything we all risked our lives for.”
“By ‘we’, you’re including Lucas?”
“Yes, of course.” Dustin said from in front of the fan.
“So, all that shit you told me, Lucas was there?” Dustin and Y/N both affirmed that question before Erica continued, “My brother, Lucas Charles Sinclair?”
“Yes!” Dustin lowkey shouted.
“I don’t believe you.”
“So you’re telling me that you believe everything about El, the gate, the Demodogs, the mind flayer, me coming face to face with a liter monster but-“ Y/N said, getting cut off by Dustin.
“But you don’t believe your brothers involvement?”
“That’s correct.”
“Yeah, that makes total sense.” Y/N sarcastically said. She watched as Dustin continued to fiddle with the screwdriver, trying desperately to crack open the casing for this set of wires.
“You need help with that?” Erica asked, getting a negative response from Dustin. “Well, I mean, it’s taking a while so-“
“Yeah, no shit Sherlock.”
“All right, so if we don’t find a more efficient method to stop these fans, we’re not gonna find help and your boyfriend and little ice cream buddy are screwed.”
“He’s not my-“
“With that attitude they are, Jesus.”
“I’m just being realistic. I mean, we’ve made it about point three miles in nine hours. Then we had to walk three hours down that tunnel, so I’d estimate ten miles back to the elevator, which should take us approximately twelve and a half days.” Erica rambled off in response to the siblings.
“Did you just do all of that in your head?” Dustin asked, noticing the same thing as his sister.
“I’m good with numbers.”
“Holy shit! Erica, you’re a nerd!” Y/N said with glee looking unto the smaller girl.
“Come again?”Erica asked, denying the accusation.
“You. Are. A. Nerd.” Dustin said, word by word, demanding her attention to them.
“Okay, you better take that back nerd!”
“Can’t put the truth back in the box!” Y/N said for her brother.
“But it’s not the truth.”
“Hmm, Dusty, you wanna take this one?” Y/N asked, egging her brother on.
“Let’s examine the facts, shall we? Fact one: you’re a math whiz apparently.”
“That was a pretty straightforward equation.”
“Fact number two: you’re a political junkie.”
“Just because I don’t agree with Communism as an ideology-“ Erica was cut off once again by Dustin. Y/N had to admit, it was extremely funny watching Erica try to convince them she wasn’t a nerd. She was pulling excuses out of excuses.
“Fact number three: you love My Little Pony.” Dustin hit Erica where it hurt.
“And what does My Little Pony have to do with this?”
“Ah, let’s recall the ponies’ latest adventure shall we? The evil centaur team and Tirek turns Applejack into a dragon at Midnight Castle, and then Megan and the other ponies have to use Moochick’s magic to defeat his rainbow of darkness, saving them from a lifetime of enslavement. All the pink in the world can’t disguise the irrefutable fact that centaurs and castles and dragons and magic are all standard nerd tropes. Ergo, My Little Pony is nerdy. Ergo, you, Erica, are a nerd.” Dustin finished off his argument strongly. Y/N couldn’t help but chuckle a bit to herself. Erica’s eyes were widening, her jaw a little bit slack. This is why Y/N feared Dustin’s intelligence a bit. He just shut Erica down in three sentences. Erica regained her confidence to ask another question.
“And how do you know so much about My Little Pony?”
“Because, I’m a nerd.” Dustin pronounced as he pulled the wiring from this casing, turning the fan off. The three kept wandering through the vents. The conversation that just happened replayed through Y/N’s head over and over and over again.
“Steve isn’t my boyfriend by the way Erica.”
“That’s a lie.”
“No it’s not. We’re not dating.”
“Could have fooled me. The way you’re both always looking at each other is gross, plus you never stop flirting.”
“What are you talking about?” Y/N said trying to understand where this is coming from.
“She means that whenever you two talk to one another, you’re always sickly sweet to each other or you’re protective in ways only couples are. Besides, you’re both in love with each other; you just haven’t done anything about it.”
“You guys haven’t done anything? Nothing at all?” Erica asked, dumbfounded by the revelation at hand.
“We kissed once, but never talked about it after.”
“You’ve kissed?!” Dustin asked, grabbing his sister’s arm. “And you didn’t tell me about it?”
“Dusty, it’s not a big deal.”
“When? When did you guys kiss?”
“After graduation.” She felt like she was being drilled by a drill sergeant. They kept bombarding her with questions about Steve over and over again. It was tiring but they were curious. She walked them through their entire friendship and everything in between. The two kids exhausted their questions and remarks about the two, just as Y/N noticed a glowing vent about them. She pressed against the vent and it popped right open.

Midnight Mission
Adya can’t help but smile. The most advanced bionics money can buy, and the one thing that can take her out is a pretty girl with a melee weapon and metal arms.
Adya runs into some unexpected trouble on a mission, followed by some unexpected help from a very friendly face.
--
Loving one another was never the challenge for Adya and Reese-- acting like they didn’t was.
Neither of them were sure of Goddard's policy for romantic relationships between agents. They weren’t sure if they even wanted to call it one at all. Putting time aside both to a partner and to their jobs would be nearly impossible, especially considering how busy Adya was outside of agent work. Every day, a new interview, board meeting, or diagnostic check seemed to take up any ounce of free time she had.
But Reese can’t deny that she looks at her colleague and wants everything to do with her. Living with four other agents and being right next door to Adya certainly doesn’t curb the thought, either. Even with the cold, harsh metal beneath her artificial skin, her touch always feels warm. Even when every gesture and expression is the result of 1s and 0s in her computer brain, she finds herself picking up Adya’s idle habits. Even when the world spins too fast for them to get a moment alone, it seems to slow down right when Reese wants it to. Just for a second-- then it’s back to business.
The only alone time that the two get is always under... strenuous circumstances. Luckily, amid the chaos of a fight, there’s one thing that all their teammates can agree upon: Adya and Reese work well under pressure.
Colby’s rifle rests across her lap. The weariness starts to set in; it’s almost two in the morning and she’s been camped out on this fire escape for an hour, waiting for someone who might never come.
“What do you have for me, Colburn?” Adya says from her wrist com.
“Exactly what I had for you two minutes ago,” she answers. “An empty storefront with the lights off. No one coming in or out. The building is big, so I can’t guarantee that they’re not using another exit. What do you have for me, Prisham?”
“Well, I found out there’s a basement. The walls are too thick for me to hear anything; and if I go down any further, I’ll lose your signal.”
“Our mission is reconnaissance only. The people in this building are supposedly picking apart old assembly line machines and reselling the parts.”
Adya keeps her footsteps light and ducks around the corner. The concrete is cold against her back in some spots, warm in others. It might just be the fact that she’s underground in a building that’s decades old, but something tells her that it’s more. “I don’t mind secondhand shopping until it means the difference between a bionic arm and a bomb.”
Colby’s tired eyes wake up when she notices five people look up and down the street before unlocking the front door. “Woah, woah,” she says, peering through the scope of her rifle. When one pulls at the handle, she notices his clawlike, bionic arm. “Adya, you’ve got incoming.”
Static.
“Adya?” she taps her wrist com gently a few times before giving up. The five figures disappear behind the building’s tinted windows.
Willing to take the risk, Adya slips into the stairwell and makes her way to the basement. Idle chatter and footsteps echo two flights above her. Shit, she mutters. The staircase goes down a few more flights, but she takes the first exit she sees. There isn’t enough time to shut it gently; the door swings back and latches with a tremendous thud on both sides. As she dives out of sight around the corner, she holds down the button on her wrist com. If live communication isn’t going through at this depth, all she can do is send out a tracking transmission and hope that no one has to use it.
Both sides of the hallway feature heavy, metal doors and one-way windows. Thermal vision tells her that each room has only a couple people inside; the rest of the space is occupied by machines, she assumes. She peers through one of the doors to see two men in dirty mechanic suits studying an elegant bionic arm propped up on the table. Instead of five fingers, the arm stops at the wrist with a wide opening similar to that of a gun. An arm cannon. We were right about this place.
The weight of Adya’s metal body against the metal door is enough to shove it open, however, and it lets out a creak that resonates down the hallway for everyone to hear. She breaks into a sprint down the hall. Even with the most lightweight bionics money can buy, her steps are heavy and loud against the concrete. She’s met by five pairs of eyes when she whips around the corner.
One of the men steps forward, extending his clawlike hand. “I’m impressed,” he begins. “This is a secure facility. Sneaking in here is pretty bold.”
“Guess I just love the thrill,” Adya responds, a firm hand on the pistol against her thigh.
“No, I think you’re just programmed that way.” He lets out a chuckle that feels almost robotic. Maybe his hand isn’t the only artificial thing about him. “Adya Milana Prisham. First human consciousness in a fully functional, artificial body. Designed for any fight. I’ve read up on you-- marvelous work.”
If she’s programmed for anything, it’s this. Her sense of fear is high enough to keep her safe, but low enough that she doesn’t freeze up in the face of danger. “Technically, I’m not built for combat. They didn’t start building military-grade bodies until after they put me in this one.”
“Hm. How unfortunate for you.” The claw attached to his wrist retracts, replacing itself with a narrow, four-pronged tool that the man presses into Adya’s shoulder. An overwhelming jolt of electricity courses through her system. Her joints lock up and her eyes go wide before abruptly returning to a neutral gaze. The world goes dark as her mind retreats into her limp body.
When Adya comes to, she’s blinded by the white light shining directly into her vision. Her wrists are bound to the wall above her head in tight, metal clamps. The room feels, looks, smells-- sterile. She knows the sensation of a bionics procedure room all too well.
“They say that the best way to learn is by doing,” the man says, noticing that she’s conscious, “and I’m tired of reading articles and analyzing blueprints. Let’s dissect that hunk of metal you call a body, huh?”
A small canister slides under the door and clatters against the concrete the moment that he turns to face Adya. Thick, white smoke fills the room faster than he can kick it away or cover it. He stumbles back into carts and tables, knocking trays of tools to the floor.
The sound of a struggle becomes the only discernible thing among the chaos. Adya notices a second, smaller heat signature has entered the room. When the smoke clears, it’s not the man’s face that she notices first. It’s the long, brunette hair and slim, bionic arms. It’s the brown eyes that could see right through you if they chose to. It’s the casual smile that never fails to be a sight for sore eyes.
“Reese?”
Reese coughs out some of the smoke, making sure that her opponent won’t be getting back up anytime soon. She pulls a key from his coat pocket. In one, swift movement, the staff in her hand retracts and latches back onto her belt. “I see that you turned your recon mission into an assault,” she says. “And I just turned it into a rescue. I got your tracking transmission.”
“At two in the fucking morning?” Adya scoffs, but it comes out as more of a chuckle. She can’t even pretend to be mad. “What are you doing awake?”
“Couldn’t sleep. The apartment feels too empty with you and Colby gone and I was working late anyway.”
Adya stares at Reese for a long while as she wanders over. “You were worried about me.”
Reese rolls her eyes, stretching her metal arms over her head in an attempt to look nonchalant. She wears black skinny jeans and a big, gray jacket over a tank top. While she may look out of her element in civilian clothes, Adya can’t deny that she looks awfully good in them. It’s not often they get to be out and about in anything but their uniforms. This doesn’t exactly qualify as “out and about”, though. “Was not,” Reese says.
“Yes you were! You did this last time I went on a midnight mission. Nate and I didn’t come back until four in the morning and there you were, pulling an all nighter.”
Reese rests a hand on the wall above Adya’s shoulder. She leans in closer with the dumbest, most smug grin anyone’s ever seen. “For the record, I got an hour of sleep that night. But keep talking-- I’ll just leave you here.”
Adya giggles and taps her nose against her colleagues. Too much time around Reese and she starts to short circuit. “The things you do to get me alone, Agent.”
“The things I do? You were here first, tin can. I’m doing you a favor.”
She reaches up with the key and slides it into the lock. Soon enough, Adya’s arms slip out, but now they’re caught in a new grip. Reese holds tight to her hands and locks her lips against Adya’s. For a few seconds, everything disappears-- no bionics, no enemies, no threat of being dissected like a lab project. There is Adya and Reese, nothing more. The earth melts out from under their feet like rocks floating downstream, away from the heavy world.
Static spews out of Adya’s wrist com. “Adya?” Colby says. Great timing.
“I’m here,” she says, still eyeing Reese an inch away from her. “I’m on my way out. We were right-- they’re building black market bionics here.”
“What took you so long?”
“I ran into some unfriendly faces.”
“Followed by a very friendly one,” Reese chimes in. “Hey, Colby.”
Colby’s gasp is so loud that it almost scrambles her transmission. “Reese, the General is gonna be furious that you snuck onto this operation!”
Reese opens the door and follows her colleague out into the hallways. “Which is why we’re not gonna tell her.”
Ever the ambitious member of their team, Reese darts down the corridors, narrowly avoiding eyes and ears with ease. Adya follows close behind, ears still ringing from the kiss earlier. She can’t help but smile. The most advanced bionics money can buy, and the one thing that can take her out is a pretty girl with a melee weapon and metal arms.

The Distraction (part one)
a Lab Rats: Elite Force fanfiction written by @fuckimsoft (A.K.A. @verified-dumbass)
summary: Kaz wakes up one morning to find no one feels quite like themselves. After a quick look in the mirror he figures out it’s because they aren’t themselves. Everyone panics and no one knows what to do.
Kaz tilted his head at the strange sight. He had just woken up, so maybe his brain wasn't working too fast in that moment. Maybe something had happened that he'd forgotten about, but Kaz was pretty sure Skylar had her own bed in the girls room. Why was she sleeping in Chase's capsule?
The pyrokenetic knocked on the glass to his teammates charging tube, (as Kaz liked to call it,) trying to wake up the girl inside. The alien's eyes slowly opened and she gave Kaz a tired brow raise, silenyly questioning why he woke her up. Again, it was early. Kaz had only just woken up. He probably wasn't thinking or remembering things properly just yet, but he found that gesture extremely odd. If someone woke Skylar up, she would normally glare at them, demanding, "what?" and looking two centemeters away from murder. She would not calmly stare at them, only looking mildly annoyed, waiting for them to explain. "What are you doing here?" Kaz asked, opening the capsule door so she could hear him. Skylar blinked, groggily, "what do you-?" Immeadiately, her eyes shot wide open. She cleared her throat, coughing dryly. She tried again, but this time she didn't get further then "what" before she stopped talking. "Um... Skylar?" Kaz truely had no clue why his friend was acting so panicked, especiolly when nothing had happened. "Skylar?!" the girl ran out of the capesule, pushing past Kaz to get to the boys bathroom. "Yeah, that's your name, right?" Skylar looked in the bathroom mirror, letting out a loud yelp. "What the heck?!" Before Kaz could respond, the bundle of blankets on Oliver's bed stirred. Only, it wasn't Oliver inside the blankets, it was Chase. "Okay, this is getting weird," Kaz said, "did you guys switch up the sleeping arrangements without telling me?" Skylar stared at the bionic boy in shock, apparently at a loss for words and Chase gave Kaz the same expression. Kaz was just confused. "Alright," Chase said, laying his head back down into the pillow, "I'm going to go back to sleep so that I can wake up from this weird-ass dream." Kaz shook his head, "guys, what's going on?" Skylar marched over to Kaz, pointing a finger at his chest, "is this a prank?" she took both his shoulders, shaking him, "Oliver, tell me this is a prank!" Kaz blanched, "but I'm not Oliver." On the bed, Chase seemed to be having some sort of existencial crisis, as he stared up at the ceiling. "Is this a sign? Am I some sort of prophet? Are my dreams trying to tell me to self-reflct? Who am I?" Skylar grabbed Kaz's wrist and dragged him over to the bathroom mirror. She then crossed her arms, waiting for a reaction. Kaz blinked a couple times just to make sure he was seeing correctly. Oddly enough, he was. He staired at himself, although he wasn't sure if it was himself. Since when did Kaz have light brown hair and blue eyes? Since when was he this much taller then Skylar? Since when did he look exactly like his best friend? Kaz looked at Skylar- was that even Skylar?- then back at himself. He screamed. But it wasn't his scream, it was Oliver's high-pitched scream. That only made him scream more. "Shut up!" whoever looked like Chase yelled, "shut up! I'm trying to go to sleep so I can wake up!" Skylar-in-question marched to the center of the boys room, waving her arms out in front of her. "Quiet! Both of you!" Once she had both the boy's attention, she continued "who are you guys?!" Kaz scratched the back of his head, "Kaz. I think. I don't know anymore!" Most-likely-not-Chase sat up, still having an existential crisis, but pushing through it, "I can vouch for that, because he definitely isn't me!" "Oliver?" Kaz's eyes lit up with emotion, knowing that his friend was still alive and not some mystical spirit that entrusted Kaz with it's form, "is that you?" "Yeah? Why? Who do I look like?" Oliver stood up as to walk to the mirror, only to pause once he was standing. "Why am I so short?" "Oh, shut up, not all of us can be giants like you!" Slylar huffed. Only, now Kaz knew it wasn't Skylar, it was- "Chase!" "No dip, Sherlock!"
With all the yelling and Oliver having a crisis, the boys didn’t notice Douglas walk in, until he finally said, “good morning.”
All heads turned to the spikey-haired genius as he calmly sipped his coffee.
“Douglas,” Chase grumbled, finally breaking the silence. He marched over to Douglas, “fix this!”

A/N: One month until my birthday! I’m trying to finish this series. any guesses on the gender of the baby?
Previous Part.
That was as far as you’d gotten, the words seizing in your mouth as you tried to think of how to explain it all and Namjoon’s power wore off.
You were sitting partially against the wall and partially in Hoseok’s lap, trying to think of how to explain it all to them.
They were all gathered around you with pillows and blankets, cozy next to the fireplace you hummed into existence.
Hoseok was braiding lavender into your hair, and Jimin was singing softly as all of you relaxed from the stress of the ‘mission’.
Taehyung was sprawled across the floor and Yoongi, muttering about missing Yeontan.
Jungkook was curled in Seokjin’s lap, wrapped in his arms.
Namjoon was sitting against the wall beside you and Hoseok, waiting for you to be ready to talk.
“I went to the conservatory after my parents…well, after my mother was killed. I needed a distraction, a way to move forward. The conservatory offered training in hand-to-hand and other skills that I saw as useful. I’d only ever been trained in artifact retrieval and care, and self-defense. I thought learning something would help distract me. Everything was fine until about a week after I’d arrived. Every time I tried to just…go outside, to even just go to the gardens, I couldn’t. I asked the dean if I could and he said no. He wouldn’t give me a reason why, and he made it clear I wasn’t allowed to ask anymore.”
“So you went searching,” Yoongi said, smirking.
You nodded, looking to Jin. “You can imagine the secrets I found.”
“The testing,” He whispered, his grip on Jungkook getting taut and causing the younger to glance up at him in worry.
“Among other things. They were testing ways of stealing the students powers, brainwashing, hypnosis…bionic replacements.”
Taehyung sat up, looking worried. “Like Heuning’s wings?”
You nodded. “The man who did that was driven out when they realized it was hurting them, but he wasn’t stopped for quite some time after.” You fidgeted with Hoseok’s hand.
His other hand rested on your stomach, warm and comforting.
“But that didn’t stop the other testing. Or the abuse of the students. Manipulation and hypnosis, brainwashing them into their little soldiers. Maybe if I hadn’t been hiding who I was, I might not have had the backbone to resist their testing, but I was stronger than they knew. The students were prisoners. Test subjects. And they still are.” You let your gaze drop to the floor, thinking about the things you had to listen to, avoid, and endure. “If I hadn’t been able to sneak away to even just my little living-space pocket, I might have gone insane. I would also have been in trouble if I hadn’t been able to keep up with my hair dye. I was using a constant melody to keep my visage hazy, but a change in hair color would have been too noticeable. But getting away was difficult. I actually had to go to restricted areas just to find enough privacy.”
“You two weren’t there at the same time?” Yoongi asked, looking between yourself and Jin, holding hands with Taehyung.
Jin waffled a bit. “There was a little bit of overlap. About three months, actually, but we were always in different places. Or if we were in the same place, neither of us took notice of it. I was trying to escape already, after having exposed the man that did the bionic replacements. He called himself Daedalus. His test subjects had their memories wiped, and most were kept at the school, giving them new identities. After that the youngest kids disappeared before I could rescue them. I’m assuming that was you?” He rested his cheek on Jungkook’s head.
You nodded. “Yeah. After they were brainwashed. I had their files from the lab and I put them in a time-frozen room until I escaped. I met Nadya on my way out. They had been trying to find a way in to investigate. She knew that I was an Archivist, she’d been told she would meet one and that I was the answer. But when we returned to the temple and got the kids settled in with their former identities to help them recover, the time super also told us that the time for her to return to the Conservatory had yet to come.”
“I don’t understand,” Hoseok murmured.
You took a deep breath. “The conservatory fights, but they don’t value the lives of those they send to fight. They’re like toy soldiers. Fighting for whatever cause the conservatory’s dean determines worthy of their attention. Sometimes that means whoever is the highest bidder.”
“Or the fight against super-powered people,” Jin added quietly.
It hung heavily in the air.
“And you and Nadya want to put an end to it,” Yoongi said, nodding slowly. “Make it into a real school for heroes, a safe place for them instead of a nest of evil. But what about your connection to the current dean?”
The boys looked to Jin when you hemmed and hawed a bit, struggling to find a way to explain it.
He shrugged and shook his head. “I don’t remember her at all.”
“Ryoko…she’s…” You sighed. “She was a student. One of the ones that was in charge of keeping me in line after they realized I was an escape artist.”
“And?” Namjoon asked, one of his hands encasing yours.
You stared at the floor. “She found out about me. And I had to use a memory spell on her. But when I did it…I had a lot of ideas. So I gave her an artifact that puts her in the good favor of those above her, one that earns you promotions…but that also let me know what happened at the conservatory.”
“W-what?” Jungkook’s eyes were huge.
Jimin’s mouth was open.
“You…used an artifact on her?” Jin asked, sounding like he couldn’t believe it. “What if someone had taken it from her?”
You shook your head. “It was a rare one, one that can only be used once.”
“So when Nadya asked if ‘She’ remembered you, she was talking about the dean?” Yoongi asked, frowning.
You nodded.
“What happens if she remembers you?” Jimin asked in a small voice.
You shook your head. “Nothing good. She’s always been power-hungry, that’s why she was the perfect choice to become the next dean and be my unwitting spy.”
“I still don’t understand,” Taehyung said. “I mean, I’m getting the feeling that there’s still brainwashing and experimentation being done…but I feel like there’s something else you haven’t told us.”
You met Jin’s gaze and could see he knew what you were going to say.
“None of you have asked about what happens to the students who don’t end up working for the Conservatory,” You said quietly. “Or why none of the students appear to be over the age of eighteen.”
The atmosphere of the room plummeted.
“Oh,” Hoseok breathed, hold on you just a little tighter.
Taehyung looked scared. “What happens to them?”
Jin cleared his throat, taking over. “If they reach the age of 18—”
“If?” Jimin asked, sounding distressed.
“They’re still used as soldiers, Jimin,” You told him, then gestured for Jin to continue.
“If they reach the age of 18, they’re given a choice: stay and work for the conservatory, or go out into the world. If they choose to go out into the world…they’re stripped of their powers, their identity…they become zombie-like. Eventually they can recover a little, but they will never notice supers or anything having to do with powers. They usually die from having their powers stripped from them, though. Or become addicts. I’ve heard of very few leading real lives.” Jin was holding onto Jungkook, like the kid might disappear at any moment. “The only reason I escaped was because I was a teacher, and I managed to leave during the turnover of staff. I wanted…I wanted to help them, but I didn’t know how. The conservatory is strong.”
“But you and Nadya think that this is the chance to change everything, to get the upper hand on the conservatory,” Yoongi said, putting it all together.
“Except I can’t be there.”
“What if we made sure the fight was drawn out, until after you’ve had the baby?” Namjoon asked, slowly and carefully.
You shuddered. “How many might die because of that?”
“Why do you need to be there?” Jungkook asked, frowning.
You looked around at all of them. “Because I can reverse the brainwashing. I’ve had the song for that school figured out for years.”
“Our first time back there you threatened to destroy the school,” Jin said softly.
“Yes. But more than anything else, I threatened to bring Ryoko harm, because it wasn’t the artifact that corrupted her. All of us lost count of how many young supers she has gotten killed.” You shuddered. “And Soobin is actually a former student.”
“What?” Taehyung yelped.
“He caught me as I was escaping and I brought him with me, took him to the home. That’s why he wanted to be closer to us instead of the people from the home. That’s why I didn’t want the boys staying there.”
“What are his powers?” Namjoon asked, frowning.
“Sonic senses, transmutation and peace inducement,” You answered, shifting and resting more on Hoseok. You felt insecure. You wanted them to assure you that they loved you, even if you did break your own rules. Your sacred rules of archives.
Hoseok’s hold tightened slightly, both hands on your stomach. “That is a dangerous power.”
“Which one?” Jungkook asked, frowning.
“Peace inducement,” Seokjin answered. “Under the control of any sort of villain or person with ill-intentions, he could induce everyone to peacefully accept a tyrant to reign over the country.”
Taehyung shuddered and pressed closer to Yoongi
“And the other boys? What are their powers?” Jimin asked, coming over to essentially sit on Namjoon so he could be close to you.
You chewed on your cheek for a moment. “Well, Beomgyu, you know has healing. Soobin told me he would keep the others safe if we made the wrong call about sending him with them. But I think it was the right choice. Heuning Kai has light, photokinesis, and the wings, but he also has air manipulation. Taehyun…I’m still not entirely certain about his powers, but I think…it’s largely psychometry, maybe enhanced memory reliving. Either way, it’s an extremely potent weapon. Especially since he also wears the badge of the high priest, meaning he trains directly with the high priest of time—not with one of the bishops or normal priests like other acolytes. That means he probable has prophetic visions or dreams.”
It was quiet after that.
Finally Seokjin forced in a breath, then forced it out. “And the last?”
“Yeonjun, he had the green robes of a nature acolyte, and his appearance…it’s definitely evidence of it….” You tried to remember what powers you’d sensed from him, working to pinpoint the exact name for them. “He was powerful too. Very powerful, but I was so overwhelmed by Taehyun’s power that I…I couldn’t really focus on his. But he was aware of Jimin, and there was some sort of…nature to him.”
“That would explain the horns,” Jimin whispered. “And the way…I didn’t really say anything but I felt like he was connected to me the moment we reached the archives and were away from the noise.”
You nodded. “I think…don’t quote me because I’m guessing here, but I think he has Ecological empathy…and maybe…something strong that has to do with the elements.” You tangled your fingers with Hoseok’s and vines quickly bound the two of you together by the wrists.
Jimin placed his hand over both of yours, smiling slightly when the vines wrapped around him too. “And are they okay right now?”
You nodded. “They’re fine. I have a song placed on Soobin, he knows how to let me know if something is wrong. I checked in this morning too, through the note-dropping system. He said they’re fine. Yeonjun is completely healed now, and they’re getting along, and apparently Huening Kai is very excitable and screams when he’s excited.”
“I wondered if he was okay, he seemed so uncomfortable and stiff,” Hoseok murmured.
“He’s young and had to go through a lot.” You let your eyes close.
You could hear them all moving closer, joining the pile.
Someone pressed a kiss your temple.
“You did so well today, baby,” Namjoon whispered. “I know it wasn’t easy telling us about what’s been going on, for you or for Seokjin-hyung. I know you probably downplayed a lot—”
“Probably?” Yoongi objected.
“Everything,” Seokjin said at the same time, sounding so heartbroken that it silenced the room again.
You opened your eyes to check on him.
Taehyung pressed a kiss to his lips. “I wish I could say I was sorry you went through that hyung.”
“Tae—” JImin hissed.
“But I’m not. I’m not sorry that you went through it because it’s what brought us together. It’s what brought you to me. You knew how to save me because of your time there, you knew how to help all of us become better people because of your time there. I’m only sorry that this place still haunts you, and that we didn’t realize how much trouble it was before now. You saved me, hyung. I know that might not be enough to you, but it means the world to me.” Taehyung pressed his face into the crook of Jin’s neck as he hugged him from behind.
Jin leaned back into the embrace, one arm still firmly planted around Jungkook, but his free hand going back to rest on Tae’s leg.
“He’s right. Your knowledge is what kept us from getting our butts kicked, now it’s you and y/n keeping us from getting our butts kicked and frankly…I think it’s because you both attended this school. So, we’re going to take it down. We’re going to find a way. Maybe not during this threat, but we’ll find a way,” Namjoon said, voice firm. “After. After our baby is born, and y/n has recovered. Until then, we build up our arsenal of allies. Or, if this fight takes longer than we think, maybe you come back in time for us to take down the school at the same time. Okay?”
There were murmurs of consent from everyone, including you.
Then all of you were just laying there, cuddling.
Because you would have to leave them once the conversation truly ended, and none of you were ready for that.

League of Extraordinary Geniuses || Chapter 6
I’d been trying NOT to, in case others wanted to read this story, but at this point, I’ve only seen fans of these fandoms interact, so there will be things mentioned that if you didn’t watch the shows, you’ll be lost about. So sorry if there are others here now, but I am mostly writing for those who have interacted and let me know their thoughts and feelings about this story and they’ve all been familiar with Lab Rats, Henry Danger, and The Thundermans, so… this chapter in particular has some things that it would be much too much to explain it all, from LR canon and a bit from HD too, and I’m sorry if there are readers unfamiliar with that, but y’all haven’t let me know that you’re here.
Y’all probably didn’t expect another update this soon, but what had happened was the last chapter would have been too long, so I found a point to cut it for that one. Also, a story line that I wanted to touch on this story, but didn’t realize how I would incorporate it until @kiddangers made a post about it either her or on her Instagram, can’t remember, and she sparked the topic and now it is a major story arc in this fic, which might be hella hurtful at some point, but... If you’re in for the ride, you’re in for it, Friends.
@verified-dumbass @just-a-j-reallly I’ve decided not to continue tagging anybody else that hasn’t interacted, out of courtesy and just feeling awkward about tagging people that are nonresponsive to it.
What if I’m the Monster
Conspiracy theories were running wild and fortunately, all of the communities that had reason to think that they might be able to be linked to this scandal quickly took action to try to clear their records and discover who the real guilty party was. The bionic, supers, and non-super communities all began their own investigations as to what might have happened while the collaboration of Dystress, Shoutout, Thunderstrike and Chase Davenport were on the ground, assessing the scene themselves. Of course, Chase was the spokesperson and mission leader. That would put everyone at home at better ease.
“Myself and a team of trusted heroes have been working practically nonstop since the torpedo attack to figure out what took place here. There were some recent developments that I’m not at liberty to speak about, which Davenport Industries had been handling, and one of our facilities was going to be attacked, when fortunately, a superhero stepped in and managed to save it and all surrounding innocents that might have been caught in the crossfire. We have recovered several remains, but they are as of this moment inconclusive. What I can assure the public of is that my current team and the Davenport brand will be working hard to get to the bottom of this tragedy and keep the citizens of Jamaica safe from any further threats…”
He and Shoutout left the press conference and returned directly back to the crash site that Dystress and Thunderstrike were at. Thunderstrike had telepathically tunneled a lot of the water, froze it in pillars, and Dystress used her scanning systems for wreckage. With this tactic, they had found numerous parts of the jet and some torpedo shrapnel, but it wasn’t until Chase returned, with his hypersenses that they found the first possible remains of an assailant… “I don’t know how to say this,” he said.
“With your words, perhaps?” Max offered.
“That’s an android…” He sighed. Max unfroze the pillar, and Chase telepathically collected the android remains to them. The four looked down at it for a while. There was very little human DNA left to him. Some hair and facial components, a few fingers, and everything else was charred and shattered metal. “They’re starting to enlist them against their brethren,” Chase said sadly. “I don’t know why I didn’t think about that happening. Of course they would! Who better to go toe to toe with them than their own kind?”
Max and Charlotte noticed that he was really upset about this. Charlotte beckoned over some Davenport analysts to quietly collect this, so that the three of them could inspect the body later. She also decided that they had been working too hard and would need a break. At the very least, Mika would, so she dismissed her and told her to try to get some rest.
“And, you probably should too. You’ve been out of your chamber for days,” Charlotte observed. Chase folded his arms and watched as the employees took the android away.
“I want to begin studying him, right away.”
“I do too, but we’re only human. We do need to rest.”
“We’re not ONLY human,” Chase argued.
“No, but we still need rest and we’ve earned it. You, especially.”
“Why, him especially?” Max asked. Charlotte just threw him a look. It was so smart of her to have a mask that covers her mouth instead of one that covered her eyes, because those looks were a weapon of their own. “Fine. But, if he’s resting, we all should rest and let the androids keep watch while the Davenport searchers keep collecting samples.”
“Is that agreeable, Chase?” Charlotte asked.
Chase sighed and reluctantly nodded his head. He knew that she wanted him to get some rest and she had a point, afterall. The three of them went to the safehouse and tried to calm their nerves and settle in.
You would’ve thought that they would be so drained that they would immediately all fall to sleep, but all were restless. Max passed by Mika and knocked on the door, “Hey. You gonna get some sleep, or what?” He asked. She furrowed her eyebrows and looked at him, the expression gesturing to the fact that she was clearly on a call. He waved his fingers at Chapa, on the screen and then pointed at Mika, “Sleep in, if you need to in the morning, but try to at least lay down for the night. You can talk to your girlfriend some other time.”
Mika scoffed and shook her head, “Goodnight, Max.”
Chapa asked, “He thinks we’re girlfriends? Awesome.”
Mika replied, “He said that just to be annoying.
Max smirked to himself as he headed for the shower. Charlotte was in the bathroom, brushing her teeth and washing her face and such. She usually did that before getting into the shower, so he said, “I’m goin’ in,” and she nodded. It didn’t bother her, but he liked to at least be clear. He was in the shower, sort of zoned out and thinking while she sprayed her locs with oils and finished up her preshower things. They crossed paths switching up who was in the shower and didn’t even have the energy for some risque joke about it.
Charlotte knew that it had to be just as heavy on their hearts as it was on hers… They freed the androids and now it seemed that at least one or some of them not only didn’t appreciate it, but might make it hard enough that they could be in serious trouble for even attempting it.
When she came out of the shower, Max was still in the mirror, doing his thing. This was the one of the quickest times either of them had ever taken in a bathroom before. He was just staring into the mirror, holding his toothbrush, though. “Hey… You okay?”
He blinked and then looked at her in her robe, holding a jar of body butter. He smiled and nodded. “How can I not be. I’m in the best place in the world - with you.” He came over and kissed her on the forehead. “It’s gonna be okay.”
She sighed, “It better be. You and Chase let go of a lot to be here.”
“I can’t speak for him, but a lot is here for me.” He cupped her face and pressed his forehead to hers. “I’m gonna make sure Mika’s got everything she needs, then I’m crashing in your room, if that’s okay.”
“I was gonna crash in Mika’s room,” she said. “She has nightmares sometimes after a stressful day and the last few days have been hell for me, so I can only imagine what they’ve been for her.”
“You could very well imagine. You’ve been a hero for a while, now.”
“I forgot how this felt. When something serious and dangerous is staring you in the face and you literally don’t know if you’re about to die. I feel… triggered. I hate that she has triggering memories now, and one of the scariest days in her life has taken place because she’s here for me.”
“Mika is where she wants to be. We all are. We chose you, Char. Come on. Let’s check on the kid and get to bed.”
They peeked into Mika’s room and Chase was in there, moving around. “What are you doing?” Charlotte asked in a whisper.
“She was having a nightmare. I kept hearing her whimpering, so I’m trying to calm her down or something,” he said. He looked tired and irritated, but he was also concerned. Charlotte rubbed his back and took over. She put on some music, sprayed some fragrance, handed Mika her beloved plushie, rubbed some oils on her feet, tucked her in and strummed her scalp. After a moment, she was snoring and the trio left her to it. Charlotte would be back, but she had this grave nagging feeling that she needed to make sure that they got to bed too. She felt like this was her fault, no matter what Max said to try to smooth her over. They had followed her into this and this had become tricky.
“I’m going to try to get us a bigger space when I have time, so that you two don’t have to squeeze into the same room,” she said, not knowing what else to say.
“It’s fine. I put my chamber in your room, so Max can have the spare to himself.”
“Nice try, but I’m crashing in her room. She’s got all the good sleepy time stuff like candles and… stuff and I’m sleeping in there, as well.”
“It’s fine. You two are always welcome to crash in my room. I’ll set the mood for you.” She similarly fixed the room as she had done for Mika, programmed some things into Chase’s chamber and when both her guys were asleep, she ducked out of the room and into a video call with Jasper and Henry.
“Char! Thank goodness! We’ve been trying to reach you for days. I was starting to think that the footage of Dystress on the news was altered and you’d been taken into some underground prisoner chamber!” Jasper worried.
“Nope. Just been taken to depression town. Was hoping you had some feel good stories about the kids or something to help me cheer up.”
Henry nodded, “Say no more. Jasper’s been making all of these musical fan videos of the kids and putting them on our DingDong account.”
“Oooh, I’m gonna check those out.”
“ALSO… We got the uh… shipment…” Henry said and looked more serious now. “They’re in the Dome. Wasn’t sure if they were capable of being at Budding Flowers.”
“They’re not defected. They’re free, and want to work with children. Your charity is one of the most successful ones in the world, currently. Androids are people too.”
Jasper winced, “Only… They aren’t… and… well…”
“Ray is freaking out about the recent news that androids now have autonomy, because if you remember, a Piper from the future came back to tell us that hell on Earth was a road paved by a robot takeover. They created ones that looked like children. Jasper and I just don’t feel comfortable, at the moment letting androids interact with kids that we’ve vowed to protect…”
“Wow. You two think that I’ve kickstarted the end of the world?” She asked, feeling absolutely worse than she had before she called them.
“No. We think that you would do anything to help others and to fix the world and that there are others out there who will take advantage of that, if they get the chance,” Henry offered.
Jasper added, “Schwoz’s friend from Davenport was telling us all about an android rebellion that once almost took place. His ex girlfriend’s models are the same ones that you designed yours after. Come ON, Charlotte…”
“She intended for them to be used for evil. There’s a big difference in our work and the results. Wow… I’m going to go check on Mika. Have a good night.”
“Char…” Henry said.
“Good night, Henry!” She hung up, frustrated and ready to cry. Not because she felt like they were being mean or hard on her. Because, they had a point and she couldn’t believe that her messiah complex had allowed her to miss it beforehand. They didn’t even KNOW about the android remains that were found. Oh God, what if she was the figurative first horseman? Conquering the academic world, looking like a savior to all because of her penchant for improving lives and society and her solutions that help and bring about peace… only to also be the reason that war and bloodshed roll in, and then famine and disease and death… How on Earth she got from messiah complex to I am literally the antichrist, she was unsure, but that was where her mind was whenever she began to doze off.
.
Mika woke up in the middle of the night from a nightmare. She was gonna get some warm milk with lavender honey and maybe a patty, if there were any more in there. She found Charlotte, sitting on the patio, asleep with her head on her laptop. She went to get Max, but neither him nor Chase were in their room, so she checked Charlotte’s and there they both were. Chase in his chamber, Max in Charlotte’s bed, covered by pillows, with a sleeping mask on and the smell of candles and incense heavy in the air. She woke him up, “Charlotte fell to sleep outside.”
“What?” He asked, half asleep, but jumping out of bed, anyway. He collected Charlotte. Mika collected her devices and they put her back in her bed. Mika felt left out, and grabbed her blanket and stuffie and came into Charlotte’s room too. With her in Charlotte’s bed, Max made a little fortress on the floor and quickly went back to sleep. Mika was awake for a while, but Charlotte’s arm draped around her and she fell back to sleep.
Charlotte got up and looked around the room. She didn’t remember coming to bed and now, she had Chase in his chamber, Max on the floor with half of her pillows, Mika in her bed and her own head was spinning, because, as she just recalled, she’d cried herself to sleep. Still, she was the first person awake and she started her day without waking any of the others. Eventually, Max and Chase came into the lab, where she was evaluating all of the diagnostics on the remains, listening to music, and talking on the phone, “Well, if I can get those remains sent to me, it will help me to determine how likely the root of that issue is and to ease your mind and maybe others,’ in the process.” Chase looked at the screen and Max went straight to the autoblender. “Okay. Thank you for your cooperation, and tell Douglas to learn to keep his fat mouth shut when he’s in the room with MY people.” She hung up and looked up, “Good morning.”
“What’s that about Douglas?” Max wondered, while Chase breezed through all of the research.
“He was talking to Ray and Schwoz about Giselle Vicker’s plans to use androids for a hostile takeover and now, one of THEEEEEEEE STUPIDEST powerful men has ideas in his head about the free androids and a robot rebellion and… Anyway, Schwoz is gonna send me the remains of a robot from the future so that I can study it.”
Max and Chase both stared at her blankly, then looked at each other. “How long have you been awake, Charlotte?” Chase asked.
“I got enough sleep,” she snapped, shaking her head. “In another, idk 20 years or so, maybe less… there is supposed to be a robot takeover inspired by the Terminator movies. Thanks to Douglas having a conversation with Ray, he now thinks that I’ve somehow set things in motion for that to occur.”
“Well… If you have, it’s done now. Besides, the fact that you have a robot from the future to work on is all the proof you need that it was gonna happen anyway,” Max said, making a smoothie. “I wanna see the robot, though. Let me in on that.”
“You and I need to keep searching for remains,” Chase reminded him.
“That’s not gonna take us the rest of our lives. By the way,” Max said to Charlotte as he poured the smoothie, “Told Mika to sleep in. Marx arrived today, so you can get him to do anything that she was gonna do.”
“Who arrived?” Chase wondered, because he was supposed to approve anybody that anyone was trying to bring into the loop and he hadn’t spoken with Max about anybody.
“His personal android assistant,” a male voice said from the doorway and Chase gasped and prepared himself to attack.
Max rushed to jump in front of Chase and said, “Sorry, sorry, sorry… It was supposed to be hilarious, but then things took a turn and I didn’t get a chance to explain to you. This is my personal android assistant, Marx. I made him in the Marcus model form to fuck with you, but I promise, he’s of no actual ties to your Marcus.”
“That you know of,” Charlotte said. “I tried to talk him and Douglas OUT of this.”
“Douglas missed his son’s face and had some regrets and I wanted a personal android assistant. I thought it would be quite humorous to have him walk up to you one day, but fate had other plans,” Max said.
Chase was staring at the android. It looked JUST like Marcus. Why would Douglas allow this and not tell him? What if Leo had seen this thing? Marx was staring back at Chase, but he had a polite semi smile on his face. “Keep it away from me,” Chase said.
“Marx uses he/him/his pronouns,” Max said and patted Marx on the shoulder. “They/them/theirs, at the very least.”
Chase smiled tightly, “Keep him away from me, and I MEAN that, Max Thunderman!” He stormed out of the lab and Charlotte shook her head. “I asked you to give Marx a different face.”
“I didn’t have time!”
Marx said, “If it pleases you, I could work on some programming to change my face, however, I don’t prefer to do so.”
“Naw, keep your face. Just… stay away from the little guy.”
“From Mr. Chase Davenport. Got it.”
.
Chase was livid. How could that POSSIBLY be seen as a joke? If he knew about Marcus, he HAD to know about all of the pain and terror he caused the family! That only made him feel a resurgence of hostility towards Douglas. Sure, they were on pleasant terms, but some part of him would always hold on to, at least a little bit, the things that he had been willing to do to his own. Really, he was the reason that Marcus was so terrible, then he just left him, for Giselle Vickers to find and… Chase was getting extremely furious thinking about this. Marcus had been one of the first major betrayals done to him. He thought they were friends, and not only were they actually enemies, but that was his brother who his father had turned against him and he hated that Max Thunderman would casually try to prank him by showing him such a face.
After a while, Max joined him, silently at first, but they both felt the tension there. They were silently working. A few times, a question came up in one of their minds, but neither of them wanted to break the silence, because it was uncertain whether it would relieve the tension. Finally, Max had to break. “It was messed up of me to make a Marcus model android with the intention to shake you up. I knew a little bit about the situation and not whatever it was that your memory tapped into back there. And, I really didn’t know you at the time, either. I didn’t think about how it would affect you like this and I certainly didn’t think you and me would be on the terms we are on right now. So, I hate that I took a joke so far, but it was all me. Douglas really just liked the feeling of seeing his son’s face again. And Charlotte, of course told me the entire time that it would be harmful. I just go too far sometimes.”
Chase was breathing heavy the entire time. Waiting on Max to actually apologize, not just list what happened. But, then again, why would he? He was obviously the type to get pleasure out of people’s pain and not even care about their personal trauma at the expense of a stupid laugh. He was much too smart to just “not realize it’d be that harmful,” so Chase wasn’t eager to listen to him and definitely not going to trust him.
“I guess the perks of being raised in a picture perfect family don’t include having some respect for others who weren’t so privileged,” Chase said. And that was all he felt like he needed to. To dive deeper, he’d dig deeper into his own problems, and he still had work to do.
“My family wasn’t perfect, but I wouldn’t have wanted somebody to make fun of our problems either. That’s what I’m trying to tell you. I’m sorry…” Max said, and it really sounded genuine. Chase almost let his guard down. But, he knew that he’d let his guard down with Marcus… With Sebastian… He’d been let down basically any time he ever let his guard down and Charlotte was the one exception to that thus far. He was fine with that fact. “Apology accepted,” he lied, and didn’t want to speak of it again.
Max felt horrible. Chase looked like an angry little sad puppy. Like… Seeing Marcus’ face REALLY did something to him. There wasn’t a lot of information, so he only knew the highlights that had been shared with him from Douglas, and it honestly sounded like, from what he’d been given, that Marcus kinda got the shit end of the stick. Max was starting to see that Chase probably got those types of ends more than his persona of perfection revealed. “If anybody ever tried to do something bad to you, I’m gonna have your back. I’m shitty sometimes. I do mean stuff. I don’t always prove to be the best sort of human, but… You’re a good person, despite how annoying you can be and I’m still probably gonna let you down and give you shit, but… I honestly do have your back,” Max said.
Chase sighed, “My back is fine. Can we please just finish this up?” Max got back to work, but he heard Chase mumble, “I’m not gonna be fooled again.”
.
All three of them were looking at what they knew to be EVERYTHING that could possibly have been left behind, while the other agencies went through the waters and the islands to double and triple check. Androids were surveilling them, to ensure that nobody planted anything, though Chase at this point trusted the androids about as much as he’d trusted the bionic army.
Max rarely trusted anybody, but he was trying not to waiver in his faith in Charlotte.
Charlotte was simply defeated and trying to think. “If I have to spend the rest of my life preventing it, I will.” She looked at a chip that was more advanced than her work, but definitely carried her signature and held her emblem. The robots from the future… The ones that would revolt and enslave humanity? They were connected to her work. She threw the chip across the lab in frustration and stormed out.
Max and Chase waited. They looked at each other and Max wondered, “What do you think?”
“I think that it’s the androids. I think that they have autonomy and that humanity won’t allow harmony and that they will rise up against them after they’ve gotten tired of being oppressed. What I will never believe is that Charlotte is responsible. She wanted to do right for someone. It wouldn’t be her fault that they betray her.” He fumed and groaned, “Androids never should have been created.”
Max scoffed, “We could say the same thing about bionics! And how do we know that it isn’t something that a human tried to do? They always try to harm anybody different, especially if they read as more powerful. It could be one of the thousands of geniuses we’ve sought out over the past few weeks, or one of the… of her trusted employees…” Max tugged his hair a little and said, “Whoever it is… We’ve got to stop them. This can’t be the legacy forged for Charlotte’s good deeds.”
“I agree with that,” Chase said, and he meant it. He summoned the chip to himself and said, “I’m going to use every skill that I have to try to find a link to someone or something that answers these questions. But first, we’ve gotta make sure our woman is okay.” He set it down and Max nodded his head. They found Charlotte near the Man Copter, hugging Mika and sending her away, for her own safety. Mika was crying and begging her not to do this, but Charlotte was definitely in a mode right now. There was no way she could let whatever was happening tarnish this bright young girl that she loved and cared so much for.
“I won’t leave you out. I’m sharing everything with you. I just want you out of range until we figure out who tried to attack the place, okay?”
“Okay,” Mika said, ugly crying and nodding. She added, “But as soon as it’s safe, I come back, right?”
“At the very instant!” Charlotte told her.
“Okay.” She waved at Max and Chase, who she saw watching, then strapped herself in.
“She’s going to one of my safehouses with the twins and their nanny, and will be working remotely. She felt like I was punishing her for this.” Charlotte shook her head. “Listen… I need some physical gratification now. I’m sorry if that seems toxic or foolish, especially considering how things are going at the moment, but I have to have release. I have to feel something primal and satisfactory. So… I’m going to head to Dystopia for a little bit, but I’ll keep contact with you.”
“Dystopia? What’s in Dystopia that will give you what you need that you can’t have here?” Chase wondered.
“Her boyfriends,” Max said, sadly.
Charlotte wiped her face, “I just… Need to connect and I need it ASAP. I’m sorry…”
“Don’t be. We understand,” Max said. She could tell that he was furious, despite his words, but everyone knew that Henry and Jasper were where her home is and she did love Max and Chase, but they didn’t know how to handle everything she was currently experiencing. Plus, she owed the Defenders an apology, for questioning her, when it turned out that despite the fact that the idea came from a sensitive place, the worries were valid.
“We’ll come too,” Chase said. “We’ll stay out of the way, but I don’t think that the three of us should have that much distance between us right now. We need to stick together.”
“I agree,” Max said.
“Yeah. Of course, if you two still are in it with me.”
“Charlotte, you may not realize this yet, but… Max and I are yours, too.” Chase said. He had blurted it out, and didn’t want to follow it up, but he meant it, and fortunately, Max didn’t argue with him. “So, to Dystopia, I guess.”
“I’ll show you around while they’re having their reunion. You only ever got to visit during crises, right?” Max said, relaxing a little as he turned to Chase, feeling closer to him right now than Charlotte, after this no matter how unintentional, but all too familiar form of rejection from her.
“Yeah.”
“I have some roots in Dystopia. We’ll have a Max’s World Day Out, yeah?” Chase didn’t want to do that at all, but he shrugged his shoulders in surrender, anyway. “To Dystopia,” Max said and wrapped an arm around Chase’s shoulder, walking him away from Charlotte. She gave them a smile, and for a moment, felt like maybe she didn’t need to visit Dystopia and see the guys… But then again, that little moment of complete comfort elsewhere? Well… She’d at least owe it to Henry and Jasper to let them know that maybe her heart had moved on...

Where Are Any of Us Going? (Part 6/?): You Idiot
(Bucky x Reader)
“Bucky, it’s me!” I yelled, trying to push his hands away.
“Yes, who are you really? HYDRA?” He snarled, pinning my arms above my head while his metal hand stayed pressed against my throat.
“No, Bucky, I swear!” I could feel the tears tracking down my face as he stared at me, as if willing the truth out of me with just the look.
“Buck, let her go.” Steve called, standing in the door of the elevator. When Bucky didn’t immediately release, he walked over, ready to pull him off me. Bucky dropped his hands and crossed his arms, jaw set hard. “Y/N, let’s go inside. Stark has information about what happened. It’ll answer all of your questions.” He offered his hand and I took it, thankful to be trusted in that moment. My heart hurt knowing Bucky didn’t trust me.
We marched down to Mr. Stark’s lab, Bucky trailing behind with his hands balled into fists. Steve held the door for me and brushed off a seat so I could sit down.
“I see you two made it out okay,” Tony looked wired. He’d abandoned the Iron Man suit and his suit and tie for a hoodie and jeans. “What a crazy first date, right?”
Bucky was still fuming at the back of the room, and I was honestly too afraid of him right there to say anything either, so I just flashed him a small, nervous smile.
“Alright, tough crowd,” Mr. Stark huffed. “JARVIS scanned all of the shooters, for identification purposes, but we also did body scans. They all had prosthetics, like Y/N. Not all of them had arms, but they all had bionic limbs. And they all had the chip in the back of their head.”
“I could hear whoever was commanding them in my head. I couldn’t quite focus when they were giving the orders, but once the radio went silent, I was able to get Bucky down before the firing started.”
Tony pointed at me with a pen. “You’re special. You’re the only one of them that had a fully metal skeleton. They all had regular ol’ bones. I think the reason they couldn’t control you was because of the sheer amount of metal in your body. It all messed with the frequency, weakened it to the point where you might have picked it up, but it was too faint to really work.”
“But they did still try to control her.” Bucky grunted.
“I don’t think they counted on me being there.” I turned back to him. “They told everyone to get into position and then fire. If they had known I was going to be there, wouldn’t they have given me a position to be in?”
“Unless you were exactly where they wanted you to be and you were sent to kill me, or any of us.” Bucky snapped.
“You guys saw the explosion in the garage, right?” Mr. Stark asked, eyes shifting between Bucky and I nervously. “The bomb was one of the shooters. I blasted his leg off and he exploded.”
“So, that’s the level of explosion we can expect if we try to remove Y/N’s arms.” Steve sighed, glancing over at me. I didn’t realize I was shaking until he rested his hand on the middle of my back and started rubbing.
“True, but, she’s obviously defective. And she’s in our hands. Wouldn’t they want any evidence of their work as far away from us as possible? They either want us to have her or they’re trying to blow her top and the signal isn’t taking.”
“What about the bodies? Wouldn’t they all be evidence too?” Steve continued.
“They would, if they were still there.” Tony nodded. “I went out to the garage to try and clear it for guests leaving and when I came back, all of the shooters were gone.”
Bucky swore under his breath, some of the anger leaving his face.
“Why could we shoot and kill them and they couldn’t even break skin with a bullet on me?” I asked, holding up the slug that had slammed into me.
“I think that might be because of the metal in your system. I think it’s bonded to your skin too.” Dr. Banner said, stepping out of one of the closets with a box full of parts.
“So a fucking magnet could totally incapacitate her?” Bucky stalked forward and leaned against the work bench. He was in reach and I wanted to touch him, help him relax, but I didn’t think he trusted me yet.
“Realistically, yes.” Mr. Stark nodded, a small smile on his lips. I knew he was imagining someone swinging a huge magnet around and me getting stuck to it. I was imagining it too.
Dr. Banner cleared his throat a little. “I’m going to try and put together something that will interfere with the radio signals she’s receiving so we can remove the explosives. Maybe if the signal can’t get to the receiver, it won’t blow.”
“Maybe?” Steve repeated.
Banner opened his mouth to say something, then quickly closed it and shrugged a little. “I can’t be 100% certain. We’re basically going to have to put her head in a metal box and cut the wires that attach the chip to the arms before we can remove anything.”
“For now, stay in the tower. Distance, plus all the metal in your body, we shouldn’t have to worry about you exploding any time soon.” Mr. Stark told me. “As soon as we know for sure that we can disarm these, that’s when we’ll go in and take you all apart.”
I nodded, getting out of my seat to leave. I suddenly felt extremely vulnerable, something I hadn’t really felt since my parents’ death. Steve tried to call after me, but I was already through the door and halfway down the hall.
No one stopped me on my way to my room. I slammed the door hard once inside and threw Nat’s gun on the bed. I quickly shed all of my clothes and changed into shorts and a t-shirt.
I drug myself right back out of my room and down to the training rooms. I found my heavy bags and started wailing on them, this time with no tears in my eyes to block my vision.
I was furious. I don’t think I had ever been so angry in my life, except maybe when my parents passed. Bucky didn’t trust me. I was made into a puppet to be used for murder. If anyone tried to fix me, there were enough explosives in my head to take out an entire cement garage level. In-fucking-credible.
I pounded the bag, over and over, sweat dripping down my face and my back.
I find out that I’m basically completely made of metal. Great! I can stick refrigerator magnets to my body and fry technology because signals can’t get through me.
“Y/N?” It was Steve. I knew he was trying to be nice to me, but I didn’t have the heart to talk to the Super Camp Counselor. I ignored him, throwing punches as hard as I could until the bag broke under my knuckles. As I was about to start hitting the next one, Steve grabbed my arms and literally lifted me off my feet, depositing me five feet away so I couldn’t hit anything other than him. “Hey, talk to me. What’s going on in your head?”
I stared up at him for a long minute. I honestly was thinking about punching Captain America across the face. “It’s not like life has been hunky dory since I got here.”
“It never is,” his face scrunched up a bit. “Let’s take a walk. You’ve got energy to burn and you need to talk this out. Luckily, I happen to be a decent listener and can probably walk the equator in one go if I really wanted to.”
I almost smiled. He was trying. I could appreciate that.
He led me out of the training room and out into the hall. “Sometimes, whether we like it or not, we’re called on by fate or destiny or the universe to go above and beyond, be more than we are. It’s a call that none of us can really get out of.”
“I didn’t want any of this.” I waved my hand over myself. “I didn’t want to be a freak. I didn’t want to run into Bucky and… develop all of these damn feelings for him.”
“You’re not a freak. You’re a girl that crazy things happened to. But you’re not a freak. You’re pretty normal, compared to most of us.” Steve smiled at me. “And Bucky… he’s scared right now. He’s terrified. You’re one of the first people--other than Nat and I--who he’s really opened up to. He feels weak around you. And he thought that you’d only been sent to kill him. It’s not that he doesn’t trust you, it’s that he doesn’t trust the world and he knows how vicious it can be.”
I watched my feet for a few steps as I processed that. “I tried to save him.”
“From what I saw, you also gave him a run for his money in marksmanship. You have to understand that that looks like a lie.”
“I didn’t know how I did it.” I looked over at him. “I’ve held and shot guns before, that’s not the problem. But I’ve never been good at it. My aim has always been atrocious.”
“It could be something to do with all of this,” he touched my arm lightly. “I don’t know what to say, really, Y/N. But Bucky cares about you a lot, and that’s what’s so scary to him. He just needs time to cool off and then he’ll come see you, tail tucked between his legs and he’ll tell you all of this.”
I nodded. “I think I’m falling for him.” I didn’t dare meet his eyes. I didn’t want to see what they held. It’d been what… four days that I had known Bucky? Wasn’t it a little early to start throwing words like that around?
“He is too, you know?” That made me look. Steve was looking forward, a small smile on his lips. “He’s also kind of into girls that scare him. Something about knowing that he’s not the most dangerous person in the room comforts him.” He grinned, meeting my gaze after a minute.
“Bucky’s a teddy bear.”
Steve’s smile grew. “I know he is. He wouldn’t hurt someone he knew didn’t deserve it.”
I wanted nothing more than to go to Bucky, to hug him and stroke his hair and his face and reassure him that I would never hurt him, to show him how much I cared about him. But he needed his space.
“Steve, will you come bake cookies with me?” I asked shyly.
“Probably the best idea you’ve had since you’ve been here,” he winked and took my hand, leading me to the kitchen.
“I smell chocolate chip,” Nat sang as she walked into the room, Bucky on her heels. Steve was scooping cookies off the sheet as I loaded more dough onto the next one. We’d decided on chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, his favorites.
Nat snitched a couple of the cookies and sat on the counter. I could see her trying to inconspicuously gesture for Bucky to talk to me, but he remained silent, only opening his mouth to thank Steve for the cookies placed in front of him.
“Nat, I have a mission report I need to go over with you, if you wouldn’t mind,” Steve said, all but dragging Natasha out of the kitchen before anyone had a chance to say anything. God, he was the worst.
I kept my back to Bucky, dolloping more cookie dough onto a third sheet for the next round of baking.
“I’m sorry if I hurt you,” Bucky’s voice was tight and monotonous. I couldn’t tell if he was being genuine, honestly.
“You didn’t.”
We fell silent again and I started washing up the dirty dishes from my baking adventure. Steve, the ratbastard, was supposed to do them, since I made the cookies.
Bucky’s fingers suddenly covered mine, removing the mixing bowl from my hands and wrapping me in a hug that felt more like a straight jacket. “I’m so fucking sorry, Y/N.”
My breath shook as I took deep breaths. God, I was not going to cry. I didn’t need to have that conversation. I quickly shook him off and wiped at my eyes, turning to face him but not meeting his eyes. Instead, I focused on the hollow of his throat, the soft skin there.
“I’m not mad at you, Buck.” I mumbled, wiping my hands off on the bottom of my shirt. “I’m hurt. But I understand why you did what you did. So, there’s no hard feelings.”
“Can I hug you again?” His voice cracked a little and I knew that if I looked at him, I would definitely start crying, so I just pressed my face against his chest, holding him as tightly as I could. He wound his arms around me too, kissing the top of my head for a moment. “I was so fucking scared, Y/N. I thought you were going to get hurt. And then it crossed my mind that maybe you’d been in on it the whole time and my paranoia went through the roof.”
I nodded a little, digging my fingers into the soft material of his shirt. I didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to think about it ever again. I wanted to push it down into a box in the corner of my mind and light it on fire.
“If you don’t… if you want… You don’t have to see me, if you don’t want to. I understand how much I must’ve hurt you.”
I pulled back and frowned at him. “Are you trying to break up with me?”
“No!” His eyes were tinged red, but I refused to believe that a man like him would ever cry over me. “No, I just was trying to give you an out if you didn’t want to see me anymore.”
I knew my face didn’t hide my skepticism. “You idiot.” I stretched up on my toes and kissed him lightly. “You have to do a lot worse than that to scare me off.” I murmured as I buried my face in his chest again. Relief seemed to radiate off him, all his muscles seemed to relax and he squeezed me so hard I thought I might pass out.
“So you’ll stay?”
“Of course, Buck. Where else would I go?”
He shrugged.
“Do you trust me?”
He pulled back that time, his warm flesh hand coming up to cup my cheek. “Of course, doll. Sometimes, I get these like… it’s like déjà vu almost. It just felt like it did when I was still in their control. It freaked me out. I needed proof and evidence but I knew that you were telling the truth.”
“Why didn’t you say that to me then?”
“In the moment, I was so worked up that I don’t think I could have said it.”
I pressed my lips together, taking the time to study his face. “Just please talk to me next time, Buck. I can’t know what’s going on in your head if you don’t talk to me.”
He nodded and kissed me again, gentle at first, then progressively more desperate and needy. I pulled him closer and leaned into the kiss, giving as much as I took. I squealed a little when he lifted me onto the counter so I could reach his mouth easier. I eased the pony tail out of his hair, ruffling the long strands out of the bun they’d been in so I could run my fingers through them.
I eventually pulled back for air but he kept at it, moving his lips down my throat then back up, just so he could do it again on the other side.
“Bucky,” I hissed when he tugged the collar of my shirt to the side, leaving a little love bite on my collarbone that made my pulse jump. I pushed him back, my heart shattering at the disappointment plain across his face. “I’m in the middle of baking, nerd,” I pecked his lips lightly and hopped off the counter, switching the last two sheets of cookies around.
“I didn’t get the chance to mention that I was really turned on when you took out those shooters.” Bucky mumbled quietly.
My face flushed and I looked down at my feet. “I was into it watching you do that too.” I thought back to it, biting my lip a little. I don’t think it was so much the shooting and the killing as it was the sheer confidence and power he possessed in that moment.
“What a fucked up pair we are.” He laughed.
I nodded and kissed him again, tracing my tongue over his bottom lip. He granted me access and before long, I was on the counter again, my legs wrapped around his hips and my fingers in his hair. His fingers caressed my legs, the difference between the warmth of his flesh hand and the cold from his metal one sending shivers up my spine.
He tasted like Heaven, honestly. I could still taste the chocolate chip cookies on his lips, and something else that turned my brain to mush as his fingers carefully trailed up my back, up to cradle my face. I let my fingers explore his chest, admiring the strength and tightly coiled muscle under his warm skin. I traced the scars, slipping my hands under his shirt for proximity’s sake.
When we pulled away that time, his teeth lightly biting into my lip before releasing it, we didn’t go far. He rested his forehead against mine, his eyes still shut.
“It’s been a while since…” he stopped. “I haven’t had a girlfriend since before the war.”
“I’ve never had a boyfriend.” I shrugged,
He opened his eyes, frowning. “Why?”
“Never wanted one. Not that guys didn’t try to make passes. I was just never interested.”
He considered that. “Have you had a girlfriend before?”
I nodded. “One. I knew it wasn’t going to last though. It was fun while I had it.”
He nodded, tracing patterns over my bare legs with his fingertips. “Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Of course, you idiot.” I kissed his lips lightly, then his nose and his cheeks, watching his smile grow with every kiss.

next chapter
“Tony, are you sure this kid is good? I mean, what kind of powers come from spiders? Tony, you know I hate spiders,” You whined, and Tony rolled his eyes.
Okay, you didn’t hate spiders. You just thought they were incredibly creepy and sometimes had nightmares about accidentally swallowing a spider. But you didn’t hate them.
“You’d be surprised, Light-bulb. The kid can throw a punch. Or catch a car, or stop a bus with his bare hands, depending on the video you watch.”
Before you could get anymore information, you saw Happy arrive at the rendezvous, with a fidgety boy in red and blue spandex trailing close behind him. As they approached, you could hear the boy (who you presumed to be Spider-Man, based on the spider-shaped emblem on his chest) firing questions at Happy at a million miles a minute. You tried not to laugh at the desolation on Happy’s face as he tried to ignore him.
But then Spider-Boy’s questions halted, and the bionic eyes on his suit widened. You assumed it was because you and Tony were standing before him.
Since you’d arrived, Tony made you keep up your Illusion. They came with the powers: the ability to make anyone see, feel, taste, hear, or smell anything that isn’t there. You use it mainly to change your appearance, usually when you’re appearing as—
“Artemis! Wow! Um, I—I’m Pete—I mean, I’m Sp—Spider-Man.” The kid bounded up to the two of you. “And Mr. Stark. Hi, um, thanks for bringing me out here! I was just telling—”
“Okay kid, calm down.” Tony said, which made... Pete? shut up instantly. “We don’t have much time before the others start to arrive—”
At that moment, someone announced something over the intercoms in German. You looked to Tony. “Alright, that’s our cue. Artemis, you got him?”
You nodded. Stepping to the boy’s side, you didn’t give him any chance to speak. You grabbed his hand, and wrapped his arm around your waist. He stiffened, which made you smirk.
“Hold tight, Spidey.” You said, before you Beamed over to a cluster of wooden boxes, effectively hiding both you and Pete.
Beaming is what you like to call your super-speed. You can run at the speed of light, but because it often takes a lot of energy and requires a strong level of concentration, you don’t use it too often. Instead, you usually run at a speed that’s closer to the speed of sound, which is still fast, but when taking others (especially those who are caught off-guard), it can induce dizziness and vomiting. Hopefully, Pete wouldn’t do the latter.
When you released him, Spider-Man put his hands on his knees, catching his breath. “Woah, that was awesome.” He groaned, not appearing so awesome.
“Okay, I’m sure Happy told you part of what’s going down right?” You asked him once he stood up straight. “You know what your job is?”
He nodded. “Come out at the code word, web Captain America up, take his shield, and... I’m not really sure what comes after that.”
“Depending on what goes down...” You grimaced, hoping this wouldn’t escalate to fighting and Steve would come to his senses. “You’ll just have to keep everyone occupied and make sure no one gets to the garage over there. Think you can do that?”
“Yeah! Um, I mean, I’ve got this, no problem.” Spider-Man stuttered.
“You do talk a lot, don’t you?” You laughed.
“No! Well, only... only when I’m nervous, I guess.” He scratched the back of his neck, and rubbed the top of his head. You figured this would been when he ran his fingers through his hair, if he could.
“I get it,” You watched as Steve came into view. “I was nervous before my first fight too.”
As the two of you looked on as Tony tried to stop Steve, Pete muttered, “Yeah... the fight.”
You grew restless at the way the conversation was getting increasingly more tense. Steve then mentioned something about the doctor, and how there were more Winter Soldiers. While Spider-Man was clueless, you knew better, your interest piqued.
Tony wasn’t having it, though, and you could tell he was barely restraining his frustration. “Alright, I’ve run out of patience.” He said, and you knew what was coming. You nudged Spidey’s elbow, signalling him to be ready. “Underoos!”
Both superheroes sprang into action. While Spider-Man leaped high through the air above everyone’s heads and grabbed Captain America’s shield, you Beamed past, binding Steve’s wrists in a rope made of light.
Pete landed heroically on top of a nearby truck, on one knee with the shield on his arm. You stopped at the empty spot next to Tony.
Between Beaming twice already, and Fusing the rope, you’d grown slightly exhausted. “Nice job, kids.” Tony addressed them.
You would’ve given a snarky response, but you were out of breath. You nodded, though. Spider-Man was not so out of breath.
“Thanks!” He said, sitting straight as he settled on the knee. He looked down at himself. “I could’ve stuck the landing a little better, it’s just... new suit—” Realizing how that sounded, his head snapped up. “Wait—it’s nothing, Mr. Stark, it’s perfect, thank you.”
You smiled at his awkward babble, but Tony wasn’t as amused. “Yeah, we don’t really need to start a conversation.”
Spider-Man nodded, but wasn’t listening to Tony apparently, because he was too in-awe of the other superhero in front of him. “Okay. Cap—Captain.” He saluted at Captain America, who’s mouth was hanging open a little, obviously a little surprised. “Big fan; I’m Spider-Man.”
Tony was getting annoyed. “Yeah, we’ll talk about it later.”
Spider-Man exhaled, waving his hand. “Hey, everyone.”
“Not now, Spidey.” You muttered to him, still grinning to yourself.
“You’ve been busy,” Steve said, contrarily bemused by the situation. Your smile slid off your face as you glared at him.
"And you've been a complete idiot." Tony shot back. "Dragging in Clint, 'rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave—a safe place. I'm trying to keep—" Tony's voice raised in volume, and he broke off with a sigh. "I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart."
You hated seeing Tony like this, and your heart ached for him because you knew how much he’d grown to care for the Avengers Initiative.
But you kind of lost it, when Steve replied, “You did that when you signed.”
“Cut the shit, Steve.” You scoffed, and his eyes turned to you, shocked. “We did that? Tore the Avengers apart by signing a damn peace accords? Please, without the contract there wouldn’t even be an Avengers team anymore.” You shook your head at him. “You’re so hell-bent on saving people with this, but we wouldn’t be able to without the contract, not legally, anyways. And you know that! You know I love you and I know how important Bucky is to you, but he’s dangerous. He isn’t worth the risk.”
Steve leveled his head at you. “Oh, and you’re not just as dangerous as him?”
You could feel the blood boiling in your veins, and Tony had to hold you back, while you held back tears.
Tony had enough. “All right, we're done. You're gonna turn Barnes over, and you're gonna come with us, now, because it's us... or a squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction about being impolite."
Now that you weren’t struggling against Tony anymore, you noticed how he was shaking. He was stalling. Stalling, in the hopes that Steve could change his mind, stalling for one last chance of keeping his family from tearing apart. "C'mon," he urged, pouring every last bit of hope and desperation into the one word.
The Captain's head turned, as if he was suddenly aware of something. Suddenly, before anyone could react, Steve lifted his bonded hands above his head, and an electrically charged arrow sliced through your light-rope, effectively freeing him. Iron Man's helmet activated, and you could hear Steve say, "All right, Lang," into his ear piece, but you had no clue who or what a 'Lang' was.
"Hey guys, something—" Spider-Man said, before grunting loudly, as a man appeared next to him, seemingly out of nowhere. He kicked the boy down, snatching Cap's shield back. You readied yourself for action, charging your hands up with light energy and Fusing a light bow and arrows.
"What the hell was that?!" Rhodey exclaimed into his suit.
The man, you assumed, handed the shield back to its owner. "Ah, great. All right, there's two on the parking deck." Tony informed everyone through the comms. "One of them's Maximoff, I'm gonna grab her. Rhodey, you wanna take Cap?"
"Got two in the terminal, Wilson and Barnes," Rhodey responded.
Black Panther, whom you had completely forgotten was here, took off. "Barnes is mine!" However, Steve stopped him in his tracks.
Spider-Man hesitated, looking to you. "Artemis, what do I do?"
Preparing yourself for flight, you nodded toward the terminal. "Let's web 'em up, Spidey."
"Okay, copy that." As he shot webs and swung himself away, you took off flying. You maneuvered the light particles in your hands so that they created enough energy to push your body off the ground and through the air, which was a trick you'd recently learned.
As Spider-Man landed on the windows of the terminal, he tried to catch up with Wilson and Barnes by clinging to the surface and crawling across it.
And, as amusing as it was, you called out to him, "You know they're on the other side of the glass, right, Web-head?" You teased, floating in front of him and phasing through the glass. His suit's bionic eyes widened, and he yelled, "whoa, that was so cool!" before swinging around and flying through the glass.
Spider-Man went to Wilson first, and you landed right in front of Bucky. You started to shoot blasts of light at him, making sure to dodge his punches. You laughed as he kept missing, and he became more impatient. “Aw, lighten up, Barnes! Get it? Because I’m made of light!”
As you pelted him with a particularly solid blast of light, you pouted. “I hope there’s no... hard! feelings after what I said out there. Strictly business, you understand.”
Bucky suddenly grabbed you by the throat with his normal hand, and lifted his metal arm to punch you, but Spider-Man swooped in and caught it with ease.
Gasping for air, you backed away. “You have a metal arm? That is awesome, dude!”
Mildly in pain but equally impressed at how easily Spider-Man caught Bucky’s arm, you grinned and took the opportunity that Spider-Man was now battling Bucky, to knock back some light arrows at Sam’s wings. The bow and arrows had been your go-to weapon since you first used it in the Battle of New York, when you Fused the first thing that came to mind (you were in a Hunger Games phase). After it was over, the media had named you Artemis, after the Greek goddess of archery.
You only needed to fire one, because you could easily manipulate the arrow into his pack, temporarily shutting it down. Only for a brief second, though, because his wings opened back up, but not before swooping down and taking Spider-Man with him.
You cursed to yourself. You and Bucky stood there in an odd moment of calm, watching as Spider-Man struggled against Sam’s grip. “You have the right to remain silent!” Spider-Man yelled, making you laugh.
Bucky, remembering where he was, resumed his fighting stance. “You two were made for each other.” He grumbled bitterly, and you smirked.
As Spider-Man and Wilson were dueling in the air, you and Bucky were battling on the ground. You grew tire of throwing light blasts, and even tried Fusing a baseball bat and hitting him with that once. But he dodged it, and grabbed at a nearby metal bench. With his strong arm, he ripped it right out of the ground and hurled it at you.
Luckily, you were not completely surprised and moved your head quickly out of the way (and by quickly, you mean at the speed of sound). The chunk of metal narrowly missed Spider-Man behind them. Bucky ran and hid behind a support beam, but Spider-Man had seen him, and yelled at him, “Hey buddy, I think you lost this!” before chucking the metal back at him.
Looking up to help him, you watched as Wilson kicked into Pete's back, and pushing towards the ground, before Spider-Man shot his webs, pulling himself from Sam's grasp. You remembered hearing something about an automatic shut-off switch on the back of Sam's wings, and Fused your bow and arrows, shooting blindly at his back.
Luckily, you must've hit it, because his wings immediately retracted, causing him to fall through the air, and into a booth. Nearing the rail, Spider-Man swung by and shot his webs at Sam's hands, attaching them to the metal railing. Spider-Man clung to the side of a support beam, and everything was strangely calm for a second.
“Those wings carbon fiber?” Pete asked.
“Is this stuff coming out of you?” Sam looked at his hands, mildly disgusted.
“That’s what she said,” You joked to yourself.
"That would explain the rigidity-flexibility ratio, which, gotta say, that's awesome, man." Pete said, more or less answering himself.
“You know, Spidey, as much as I appreciate a little commentary, there’s not usually this much talking in a fight.” You pointed out, and Sam nodded.
Instead of being embarrassed, which is what you expected, Spider-Man chuckled. "All right, sorry. My bad." He then swung at Sam.
Suddenly, Bucky appeared out of nowhere, blocking Spider-Man, but not stopping him from knocking them both through the railing and onto the ground. Spider-Man webbed Wilson's arms to his chest, and Bucky's metal arm to the ground.
"Guys, look, I'd love to keep this up, but I've only got one job here today, and I've gotta impress Mr. Stark, so, I'm really sorry." Pete explained.
However, you noticed Wilson's hand move under the webbing and the net, and you could tell it was his wrist monitor.
"Webs—" You started to warn him. But, before you could get anything else out, as Spider-Man extended his arm to shoot a web, Redwing flew in and caught hold of Pete's hand, zooming out the window. Spider-Man banged awkwardly against the building's framework, and flailed through the air as Redwing tugged him along.
You turned to glare at Sam, who simply shrugged, before flying back after him.
Apparently, Spider-Man had been dropped, because he was squirming around on the concrete. You saw a small cut on his arm, where the glass had pierced through the fabric and his flesh. Landing near him, you grabbed his hand gently.
He began to fight back before he realized who it was, and he relaxed.
"Hey, quit squirming so I can heal you, dumbass." You gripped him harder, exposing the wound a bit more so you could make contact with his skin. You pressed your fingertips against the area around his cut, and allowed the light to flow through your chest and into your hands.
The illumination of your skin reflected off of his bionic eyes, and against your better judgement, you wished you could see the look under his mask. He stayed silent in awe, but looked at your face the entire time. You couldn't read Pete's expression, but you knew it was impressed.
After the wound stitched itself back together, you dropped his arm. "You okay? The healing tends to make people a little dizzy afterwards," You helped him stand, and Spider-Man swayed slightly.
Both of the your attentions were attracted when a truck went flying through the air, landing near Rhodey in a fiery explosion. Caught off guard, you recharged your hands, ready for the next attack. Beside you, Spider-Man crouched, as if ready to swing into action in a moment's notice.
Catching up to Tony and a fallen Natasha and Rhodey, you took the woman's arm, while Tony helped his friend.
"All right," Rhodey grunted. "Now I'm pissed."
"Is this part of the plan?" Nat asked Tony.
"Well, my plan was to go easy on them. You wanna switch it up?"
As Captain America's team ran for the hanger across the strip, you could see Vision flying in and cutting them off in their path with a beam from his Mind Stone.
"Captain Rogers," Vision spoke, floating ten feet above the ground, and looking pretty badass. "I know you believe what you're doing is right. "But for the collective good, you must surrender now."
One by one, Iron Man's team assembled across from them, separating Cap's team from the hangars.
Apparently, you figured, the talking was done, because Steve started towards his adversaries.
Beside you, Natasha sighed. "This is gonna end well,"
And with that, both teams were walking towards the other, without the intent to stop. As Captain Rogers picked up the pace, Pete seemed to freak out a bit. "They're not stopping!"
"Neither are we." Tony lamented, and for the first time, you hesitated.
This was your family; how were you supposed to fight against them? Why were they resorting to violence? For a split moment, you despised this life you had. But you couldn't think about that now, not when half of the Avengers (and this 'Lang' character) were running towards you, and certainly not for a hug.
You looked to Spider-Man, who seemed confident. You willed yourself to stay strong, and as Tony, Rhodey, and Vision flew into the air, you hovered as well.
And then the Avengers collided.
As each team member fought their own opponent, you chose to help Spider-Man battle Wanda. The Scarlet Witch threw her red energy blasts towards you with one hand, and launched vehicles at Spider-Man with the other. He made loads of different grunts and yelps as he shot web after web, trying to dodge the trucks. You fought back with your own light blasts, and even tried swiping her out from underneath her feet at one point, but Wanda took you by the foot with her energy and dragged you far away.
You had to hand it to her, she was doing much better at fighting off two people than you had done against one, but you didn't let her win.
You did, however, stop fighting her, as you went to find Steve. You wanted to have a word with him. And by word, you meant a good punch in the face, even if your hand did break in the process.
As you'd just found him, Spider-Man was swinging by, when Steve threw his shield and cut his web. Spider-Man rolled on the roof of a gangway, crouching. You split the distance, so you all stood in a triangular shape.
“Now, now, boy’s let’s play nice, yeah?” You teased, settling your hands on your hips.
"That thing does not obey the laws of physics at all." Spider-Man stated.
“That’s true, Spidey, but neither do I.” You smirked, forming your own shield out of light.
"Fair point, Glow-stick." Spider-Man shrugged, and your cheeks began to glow slightly at your new nickname. Literally.
"Look, kids, there's a lot going on here that you guys don't understand." Steve interrupted, slightly frustrated.
"Mr. Stark said you'd say that, wow." Spider-Man said, before flicking his wrist, shooting a web at Cap's shield, as you grabbed one of Steve's ankles with a Fused whip.
Pulling him towards Spider-Man, you released the energy in your whip, and Spider-Man used the momentum to kick him hard in the chest, sending him flying back into the gangway.
Rolling a good distance away, he laughed, "He also said to go for your legs."
Steve lunged towards his shield, which was a couple feet away from him. Reacting unnaturally quickly, both young heroes restrained the captain. Spider-Man held his hands back with his webs, and you Beamed over, which you could feel a massive energy loss. You kicked the shield away, and while he couldn't use his hands, you used the opportunity to punch him really hard in the jaw.
You yelped, cradling your broken hand against your chest, hopping around as you tried to distract yourself from the pain. Totally worth it, you thought, as you noticed a bruise start to blossom on his jawline.
You could feel the bones start to heal themselves, but you were forced to stand back a little while Steve managed to use Spider-Man's webs to his advantage. Spinning through the air, Steve slingshot Spider-Man back. Once he recovered, he tried to attach a web back onto his shield, but Steve grabbed the web and yanked Spider-Man back, slamming his head against the vibranium.
You cringed for Pete; even with regenerative powers, that was definitely going to leave a mark.
He recovered impressively quickly though, vaulting himself on top of the gangway.
“Stark tell you anything else?” Cap looked up at him.
"That you're wrong; you think you're right. That makes you dangerous." Spider-Man shrugged, then swung himself around the gangway and hurled himself at Steve. The Star Spangled man roundhouse kicked him, sending him flying back into the leg of the gangway.
"Webs!" You gasped, still mildly in pain. You tried to sprint normally over in time to get him out of there, but Steve had already chucked his shield at the leg, causing the structure to fall on Spider-Man.
"Artemis!" Spider-Man yelped, thinking that the gangway was going to strike you, but he lifted his hands up, and caught it. With your good hand, you Fused a light sheet to hold up the structure, or at least help your comrade.
Steve, whom you thought had already left, put his shield back onto his arm. "You got heart, kid. Where you from?"
"Queens." Pete grunted.
Turning, Steve smirked. "Brooklyn." And with that, he bolted.
You saw the light in your peripherals begin to fade, and you whimpered. Spider-Man yelled out in frustration, managing to lift the whole thing on his own. "Go!" He shouted at you, and you did so gladly.
You collapsed not a couple yards from there, while Spider-Man shot a web and yanked himself out from under the structure before it fell. Now free, he ran to you.
You were panting, and you desperately tried not to let your Illusion fade, now that he was over here. That was one thing Tony had stressed. Don’t let him figure out who you were. "Hey, hey, Glow-stick, you okay? Look at me." Spider-Man tended to you, checking you up and down.
"I'm good—go," You gasped, feeling your light mask starting to dissipate. Spider-Man hesitated, but he was forced to change his mind when suddenly, small guy turned big.
"Holy shit!" Spider-Man exclaimed, and you breathed out a tense chuckle. As he left to battle it out with the giant, you crawled behind some boxes.
Letting your powers go, your alter-ego’s white hair faded into your own, and the eyes that turned white when you used your powers, closed. You took deep breaths. Your powers were almost drained, and you used what ever was left into healing your hand. You examined it; you could flex your hand open, but it still felt sore.
After a few painful minutes of recovering, Tony asked, "Okay, anybody on our side hiding any shocking and fantastic abilities they'd like to disclose, I'm open to suggestions. Artemis, I'm talking to you, Light-bulb!"
"Nah, T, the well's gone dry," You winced, and Tony groaned.
The boxes you hid behind suddenly exploded, and it didn't take long for you to find out that Giant dude kicked your hiding spot away. You immediately put back up your facade, sprinting towards Black Panther, who was seconds away from being the giant's new toy.
As Rhodey swept in, Spider-Man swinging along, Hawkeye began to duel with the Wakandan king. Figuring that fight was fair enough, you decided to go and help your team defeat the monster.
Eventually, Rhodey abandoned Lang, and flew off to stop Steve and Barnes from getting to the hangars, leaving you and Spider-Man to defeat Ant-Man yourselves.
Spider-Man scaled the giant, crawling up and over Lang's helmet. You tried to minimize using your powers, so you didn't completely drain them. You mainly shouted directions to your young new friend, telling him points of possible weakness.
Then, Vision used his body as a bowling ball, slamming into Ant-Man's torso and knocking him backwards against an airplane. Vision, now distracted by Captain and Barnes sprinting across the airstrip, phased through Lang.
Visually startled, Ant-Man grasped his chest. "Something just flew in me!"
On the other side of Lang, Vision shot a cutting beam from his Mind Stone, slicing a radio tower in half, causing it to topple over right at the entrance of the hangars.
Too distracted by Spider-Man's cries of frustration, you ignored Wanda's distant cries of pain and the overwhelming sounds of destruction.
"Hey, guys, you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?" Spider-Man shouted. You laughed, for what felt like the millionth time.
"Jesus, Tony, how old is this guy?" Rhodes groaned, and you could practically see Tony's eyes rolling.
"I don't know, I didn’t carbon-date him. He's around Artemis’ age, on the young side!" Tony responded.
"You know that part where they're on the snow planet... with the walking thingies?" Spider-Man shouted, swinging himself around Ant-Man's legs.
You Fused another light-rope, grinning as you understood what the boy was saying. "Guys, I think he's onto something!" You attached your rope to Spider-Man's web, and beamed around the giant's legs.
"High, now Tony, go high!" Rhodey instructed Iron Man, who then both flew with their fists aimed at Lang's jaw, knocking him off-balance, and sent him to the ground.
Completely basking in the accomplishment, Pete gave Tony a thumbs up, still slinging around Ant-Man.
"Yes!" Spider-Man laughed. "That was awesome!"
Distracted by Pete's joy, you smiled, your eyes glued on the boy. It was too late by the time you noticed Spider-Man flying straight towards the giant hand, which, in turn, caused Peter to smack straight into you.
Your body taking most of the blow, the two of you crashed through a nearby stack of boxes.
Groaning in pain, you felt your Illusions begin to wear off again. Beside you, Pete was barely conscious, and you struggled to at least keep your hair white. Iron Man came flying to you, and Pete, whose mask was halfway off, was laying on the ground motionless.
Tony looked to you first, but you nodded to Pete. He crouched down at the boy, "Kid you all right?"
Reacting on instinct, Pete began to fight off his attacker, before realizing it was only Tony. "Same side! Guess who. Hi!" Tony grabbed him by the wrists, stopping him from pummeling the multi-billionaire.
Pete calmed down, letting out a sigh of relief. "Oh... hey, man,"
"Yeah."
"That was scary,"
"Yeah," Tony nodded. "You're done, all right?"
Pete blinked. "What? I'm good, I'm fine,"
You groaned, clutching your side. You made a move to stand up. "Pete, you did good job, stay down. Let us handle the rest."
Tony's head whipped to you. "Oh, no, you're both done."
"What?!" You exclaimed, at the same time Pete said, "No it's good, I gotta get him back!"
"You're going home, or I'll call Aunt May!" He yelled at Spider-Man, before turning to you. "And I'll put you in the Dark Room!"
You immediately stopped arguing, eyes going wide at Tony's threat. Tony never used it as a punishment, but the thought alone of going in there made you shudder. Spider-Man, however, wasn't deterred.
"Wait," He whispered, trying to get up. You watched him with weary eyes as he eventually gave up fighting. He slumped back down on the ground, clutching his side.
You laid down beside him, the two of you breathing in heavily as you both tried to recover from the intensity of the battle.
After a couple minutes of relative silence, Peter spoke. "What's the Dark Room?"
You sighed. "It's the place where I go when my powers malfunction," You started, sitting up. Pete perched himself up on his elbows, watching you. "It's a room without windows, no light, completely sound and heat proof, so no one gets hurt."
You trailed off. He then said, “My name’s not actually Pete, by the way. I’m Peter.” He held his hand out to you, his mask now completely off. He was cute, brown eyes and matching hair, tousled from the mask.
Eventually, Tony came back to retrieve you. You said your goodbyes to Peter as Artemis, while you and Tony left on a helicopter. Tony dropped you off at the airport, where you flew back to New York.
The next day, you leaned against the car, waiting for Happy and Peter to get off the jet. For some reason, Tony wanted you to meet Peter as yourself.
Once they landed and exited the plane, you smiled at the two. “Hello, Happy. Hi, Peter.”
Peter looked even cuter today, now in jeans and a shirt with a science pun on it. “Do I know you?”
“I’m Y/N, Mr. Stark’s intern. I’m here to escort you back home.”
And you did. Peter was endearing, and very surprised when you informed him that he was keeping the suit. After the good-byes, and Happy took you back to the Stark tower, you sighed at the sight of a very battered Tony Stark.
You took a chair and faced him, reaching out to heal him. He shook you off, which was not like him. “He killed my parents.” He said, and your heart broke for your father-figure. “Bucky, I mean. But Steve knew.”
“I’m so sorry, Tony.” You said quietly, grabbing his hands for comfort, being careful not to hurt him.
“You have nothing to be sorry for.” Tony responded, and you nodded.
“Anyways, I wanted to tell you something.” He rose from his chair, walking around into the kitchen. He poured himself a generous glass of bourbon. “You like Peter?”
You shrugged. “Yeah, he’s sweet.”
Tony nodded. “Kid’s got potential.” He agreed. “But I need you to do something. Go on a mission.”
You nodded, liking where this is going.
“Well, he needs some guidance. He’s still a baby superhero, and he’s got a chance of screwing up big time. That’s where you come in.” He took a sip. “You’re seasoned, you’re a wise elder. And you can... help him. Guide him.”
You furrowed your eyebrows. “But how am I going to do that?”
Tony smirked, which excited you. That was his ‘I’ve-got-a-plan-and-I’m-up-to-no-good’ face.
“Light-bulb, you’re going to high school.”

TFP: Zombie world 8 Dissolution
The Nemesis Six hours before arrival...
Temperance eyes opened slowly as her vision adjusted to the darkness, her head was still swimming in the fuzziness of her hangover; before going to sit up only for someone to pull her back against a hard chest. blond women tensed before recalling what happen a few hours ago, "You still need to rest." Megaton said sharply her gray eyes found his red one's she hummed tiredly.
the warlord cocked a brow at E-type woman and felt her bionic hand brush across his chest, irksomely rousing his curiosity. "Temperance...how did you lose your hand?" he felt her tense up in arms and her heart-rate spiked, Megatron could feel it drumming in her chest.
"It was a week after I left the Jasper survivors... I was tired after walking several days with barely any rest, I found this house I thought it was empty but, I wrong.
*flash back to 6 months ago...*
Temperance slowly walked up the steps of the house she carefully checked to make sure it safe. Suddenly she heard the floorboards creak! she whirled around only to see the butt of a rifle swing towards her, then darkness... when she woke up one of Temperance's arms was shackled to a wall, one of her captures noticed her, he nudged his buddy, "Ey check it out man."
the brown haired male smirked as The blond glared "what the fuck is this?" she growled the two men oohed at her demand "looks like we got our selves a feisty one Bucky.~" red haired male mused as Temperance sneered at him in disgust as his friend put his fingers under her chin. "Don't worry we're not gonna hurt you...Babe~"
"If your not going to kill me then, what the hell do you want?"
"Well, aren't you mouthy one, I like that easy to break, we're gonna have a little fun wit-"
*spit*
"heheh...yer dead!"
He went to strike her when his friend calmed him down, "whoa, whoa easy Jimmy y'know the boss gets first dibs, lets wait for him to get back." Jimmy grinned before following Bucky out of the room. Temperance kept her eyes trained on them as they left, mind playing out different scenarios of how she was going to kill them "should we leave the tool box near her?"
She heard the red head ask only for Jimmy to snort; "those chains are heavy iron! She'd need a welder to get them off!" the ash blond eyed said box on the washing machine, she swallowed staring at the saw then her hand. Cogs slowly turning as she scan the room they had her locked in,Temperance's stomach dropped when her eyes landed on a pile of dirty womens clothes. but, then something else caught her eye.
Something that pissed her right off, in that pile was chained up little zombie girl reaching for a dirty teddy bear. before noticing the blond woman and started growling.
It was all blurr then; all Temperance remembered was grabbing the biting back the pain as she cut herself free. sure all the other girls they held captive, were too scared or weak to fight back...But, She was Temperance Fucking Monroe! And these little boys will soon learn, they fucked with the wrong woman.
When Jimmy and Bucky came back with their boss, They were shocked to find their little captive gone. "what the hell ? where-" they froze seeing a hand laying in some weird glowing blue goo on the floor. Jimmy crouched down "what is tha-” he reached out to touch the substance only to hiss and retract his hand “ow, fuck! this shit burns!"
Jimmy yelled holding his fingers away from the puddle, while their boss glared at him "Ya'll brought a another infected in here!?" as Buck slowly looked around nervously spoke up "Guys we locked her in here right?" the two tensed hearing the door creak.
they slowly turned around in sync with the creaking and looked up with the click to see. Temperance with more of that glowing stuff; dripping from her mouth and stub. slowly advancing on them with an unhinged smile.
"oh don't worry boys, I'm just gonna have a little fun.~" She said in a raspy tone.
They backed into a corner as their screams echoed throughout the empty halls and surrounding area. By the time she was done the men were barely recognizable she slaughtered them like the pigs they were.
Then looked at the little zombie child who was still trying to get to her. Though her eyes were sad,Temperance's face held no emotion as she kicked the teddy bear to the child, "I'm sorry." was all she said before shooting the girl in the head with one of the men's revolvers.
After Temperance calmed down she walked out of the room locked it, found the bathroom calmly washed all the blood and energon off her body. found their weapons locker and where they put her stuff got dressed.
Went to fire place grabbed an Iron skillet and waited until it was red-hot and pressed it against her stub. it was another two days before she left that damn house, She lost a lot of Energon and needed the rest. when she was well enough to leave she torch the damn thing.
*end*
"I added the trowel a few weeks later..." Temperance said she felt Megatron tighten his arms around her, as the mech's avatar growled "it's good that you terminated them." he said letting a dark chuckle. "Because if you hadn't, what I had in mind, would've been a million times worse, then escape you gave them..."
the warlord said a in a venomous tone; He was protective when someone threatens his femme ...He shifted sitting up so Temperance was in his lap his red eyes met her gray ones, as his desires and possessiveness took over, he knows they didn't violate her.
But, that didn't change the fact that, they harmed and touched her, Temperance seemed to catch on what he wanted and slowly pulled Megatron into a kiss: let's just say for someone whose never kissed or laid with a organic before, Megatron was a fast learner...
Meanwhile at Greendale 8am
Bumblebee's holo-avatar was looking around Abby's trailer as the android took a nap when J.J. acted up "av! oou.!" the little girl shouted causing Bee to jump as he watched Abby opened one eye to see what the baby wanted, "hm? what'cha drawing there Snaps?"
J.j. made a fuss smacking the paper, Bumblebee cocked his head to the side; not understanding what she was doing till Abby got up and to see what the picture was "is it me?" the little made a grumpy protest. Then pointing outside at the tree house "oh, It's your uncle Raf...You, think Raf is the tree." Abby frowned as Bumblebee's avatar came up to her and asked in a forced raspy whisper.
"can she not talk?"
"not yet, everyone else says she should be...I think she's working at her own pace."
"it-It's because of Raf *clears throat* i-isn't it?"
"I don't know Bee, She was only a few months old too young to remember..that incident let alone be traumatized by it."
The scout was silent his throat hurt from talking as he finally got a good look at Abby and J.J.'s room there were drawings and a few finger paintings. but, what upset him was Abby and Miko's crudely drawn zombie take-down strategy on the walls it showed a green being with patches of red on it, in Miko's handwriting it said{ BADGUY aim for these} she circled the knees the head, and had an answer for the blood: rotten ketchup. {don't Eat!}
Bumblebee frowned stared at the mural for a few minutes before something tugged on his avatar's pant looked down and saw J.J. using him as support she tried to figure how to stand, her brows furrowed as she tried walking to Abby who held her breath...only for the alarm to go off causing the baby to fall on her butt throw a tantrum! Bumblebee picked her up and handed her to Abby as his avatar disappeared in shimmer of sparks.
on the other side of camp
Catherine hummed as she slowly woke up, as looked around her bedroom, what time was..8!?she was supposed to be at the medical tent an hour ago! She got up quickly threw her lab coat on and ran out of her trailer. Only to be met by Ratchet?! she watched his holoavatar: giving some of the children and adults a check up.
*what-how was he...* Then she remembered last night, Fowler's file Ratchet carring her to her room, as if he sensed her Ratchet eyes found her gawking at him "And what are you doing here? I told you rest!?" he huff crossing his arms, "i-" her stomach cut her off "And you haven't eaten yet?! And you call yourself a doctor." he scoffed causing a few of the settlers to whisper and snicker.
Catherine’s face turned blue-violet and went to tell him off, But the medic silenced her "hup-hup, none of that! go refule, now and make it a proper meal; none of those cereal bars." he ordered pushing the E-type Doctor towards the mess-hall, the ginger haired huffed as walked into the mess-hall.
Shooting daggers at Hilary as she giggled at Catherine's blue violet face: she was so embarrassed being nagged in front of the entire camp! "You know he's just looking out for you right?" Her leader said looking up from her book. it was weekend so the children were free to their own activities.
The female doctor mumbled under her breath, before getting in line for food. when the alarm went off! Vince came running in "M-miss. Bellamy, J-Jack? you may want to see this!" The Silo leader and Greendale leader got up and ran outside to see everyone frozen and staring up at the sky.
"what the hell is that?!" someone yelled in the crowd as more survivors voiced their worries and opinions, Abby frowned looking up at Floyd, as she hugged J.J. close to her the baby whimpered as the Jasper survivors stared up in fear at the shadow slowy covering the camp.
The Autobots stared up in shock at the sight of the Decepticon warship the Nemesis.

Being Human
Summary: Shalua scams Rude when they first meet, and romance ensues.
Rude walked into the WRO laboratories with two discs in his hand, looking for someone who could correlate the information about Geostigma on them to make sure it could never come back. He wanted to hurry up and get back to his lunch break. There was a new bar that Reno had found, and they were planning to check it out. He finally saw a woman staring intently at two screens. He walked over to her and cleared his throat.
“Excus…” Rude got his wind knocked out of him as the woman suddenly elbowed him in the chest with some force.
The woman spun around quickly with an embarrassed look on her face as she saw Rude. “Oh, I’m sorry about that, but you shouldn’t sneak up on people!”
Rude waved his hand to indicate he was okay as he got his breath back. Then he noticed she only had one eye, but she was still pretty.
“What do you want?” the woman asked, returning her attention to the monitors.
“I need the information on these two discs correlated.” Rude explained as he picked them up off the floor.
“I’m busy, can you come back later?”
“I need this done as soon as possible.”
The woman sighed in frustration. “Tell you what, I’ll make you a bet. We’ll arm wrestle and if you win, I’ll do it. If I win…”
“I’ll take you out to dinner.” Rude interrupted her, intrigued by her offer. Why would a lady scientist think she could out arm-wrestle him?
“Fine.” She typed a few keys on the keyboard and the movement on the screens stopped.
Sitting down at a small table facing each other, Rude made a big deal of flexing his muscles before he put his elbow on the table. The woman just quietly sat down and put her elbow on the table as well, grasping Rude’s hand with a surprisingly firm grip.
“You can quit now and I won’t hold it against you.” Rude said, a slight uncertainty nagging him as he felt the strength in her grasp.
The woman grimly smiled and shook her head in refusal of his offer. “Ready when you are.”
Rude left the lab moments later, rubbing his arm. Once the woman was sure he was gone, she uncovered her arm and patted the machinery.
“Thanks again, old friend.” she said before she resumed her experiment in peace.
***
Rude was almost to the door of the WRO headquarters when he heard his name called. Turning around, he saw Reeve walking towards him.
“I thought that was you. What are you doing here?” Reeve asked.
“We had some information that needed to be correlated properly.” Rude answered.
Reeve noticed him rubbing his arm. “Did Shalua trick another one?”
“Huh?”
“She’s one of our top scientists, one eyed with a bionic arm.”
“Bionic arm?”
“Yeah, sometimes she’ll have it covered, and tricks people into accepting arm wrestling bets to get what she wants.”
Rude frowned. He didn’t appreciate being made a fool, but a thought occurred to him. “What else can you tell me about her?”
When Rude finally arrived at the bar, Reno was on his second drink and his first course.
“What took you so long?” Reno asked.
“Making plans for my dinner date.” Rude replied as he sat down in their booth.
Reno almost spit out his drink. “Date? Who?”
“Some scientist over at WRO.”
Reno shrugged. Brainy intellectual types never interested him. Full breasts and long legs did. Like that blonde drinking a cocktail at the bar.
“Enjoy your dinner, I’m going to finish enjoying my lunch.” Reno stood up and threw some gil down to cover his part of the bill, then approached the blonde. After a few moments, she and the brunette next to her stood up, and Reno paid their bill before they left with him.
***
Shalua was in a hurry to leave the lab and go home so she could sleep and come back in the morning. After she signed out and headed outside, she heard her name called. Surprised, she turned to see the man she arm-wrestled with earlier walking over to her, holding a bouquet in his hands. When he got close enough, she saw that it was poppies. How did he know her favorite flower?
“You ready for dinner?” he asked as he handed her the bouquet.
“What?” Shalua was totally confused.
“That’s what you get for winning the bet earlier, remember? I take you out to dinner.”
“Oh!” Shalua blushed. “Don’t worry about it. Enjoy your night.”
“No, you won fair and square, and I’ll stick to my word.” He held out his arm for Shalua to take.
She stared at him and then blushed more as she decided to come clean and send him on his way. “I cheated, the bet’s off. You don’t have to take me out to dinner.”
“Cheated?” The man seemed surprised.
“Yes. I’m half-machine, see?” She exposed her bionic arm.
“Well, then, you can take me out to dinner to make up for it.”
“You’re not leaving til I agree to dinner, are you?”
“Nope.”
Shalua sighed and took his arm, hoping she could get this ‘date’ over with quickly.
***
Rude took them to a little bistro. Shalua felt a bit silly being there in her lab coat and her hair was probably messed up from work as well. Everyone else was dressed nicely, including the man with her.
“What’s your name?” Shalua asked, realizing she didn’t know.
“Rude.”
“Rude?” Shalua said in surprise as she looked over the menu. What kind of name was that?
“And you’re Shalua Rui, one of the best scientists at WRO.” Rude said. “Reeve told me all about you.”
Just then the waiter showed up to take their order. After he left, Rude asked Shalua about her work. She was still talking when their food arrived. While they were eating, Shalua used the time to collect her thoughts. It had been so long since she had talked ‘shop’ with someone outside the lab. Or about anything for that matter. And he actually seemed to understand some of her experiments, or at least the basic principles behind them. She tried to refuse dessert, but Rude insisted. After the bill was paid, Rude walked her home.
***
A week later, Reno and Rude were at the new bar again for their lunch break.
“So how are things going with that…what’s her name again?” Reno asked.
“Shalua Rui. Things are going fine.” Rude replied.
“She must have other remarkable talents besides science. You’ve seen her just about every night for the past week.” Reno suggested with his usual innuendo.
.
“A gentleman never tells.” Rude said primly as he took a sip of his beer.
“You haven’t had sex with her yet? What in the hell’s wrong with you? Why not?”
Just then, the blonde and brunette that Reno finished his lunch break with last week came over to their booth and threw their drinks in Reno’s face before storming off.
“That’s why not.” Rude said, not bothering to hide his smile as he took another sip of his beer.
Reno gave him a dirty look before going into the bathroom to clean himself up.
***
Shalua was working through her lunch break, grateful for some peace and quiet with everyone else on their lunch break. Ever since that first dinner date, Rude had been hanging outside the building every night when she left work. There had been nonstop gossip and pointed remarks about her ‘hot new man’, so much so that it was hard to work sometimes. And she liked being at the lab surrounded by other pieces of machinery like her. Shalua wasn’t even sure why she just didn’t tell Rude to take a hike. She had figured out by his outfit that he was a Turk, and she had never forgotten that it was Turks who kidnapped her beloved sister. But as she was getting to know Rude, things were getting confused for her.
***
Two weeks later, they were having a lunch date at the park, and as they were sitting on a bench, eating their ice cream, a frisbee that some nearby kids were playing with accidentally hit Rude in the head as he was leaning towards his cone, and he got his face full of ice cream. Shalua burst out laughing as Rude wiped his face and glasses off, then threw the remainder of his ice cream cone in the trash. Shalua finished her cone and they got up to finish walking the trail, throwing her cone away first.
When he dropped her off back at home, she invited him inside. Shalua felt uncomfortable since she hadn‘t been with anyone since she quit being a whole human, so she decided to lighten things up. She told Rude to sit anywhere he wanted while she made them some tea. As soon as he sat down, wondering if he should leave since she seemed so nervous, she grabbed his sunglasses off his face.
“Hey, what are you doing? Gimme those back ‘Lua!” Rude exclaimed, shooting up out of the chair and trying to regain possession of them.
Shalua held them behind her back with her human hand while holding him at bay with her bionic arm. “I thought so at the park, but just wanted to be sure…you look awfully cute without them.”
“Cute? I’ll show you cute!” Rude chased her around the living room, finally catching her by the entrance to the kitchen.
Half-trapped by his arms, Shalua held the sunglasses in her bionic arm, stretching it away from him as far as she could, and kissed him as her last diversion. She succeeded better than she had planned, they were both diverted by their reactions to that kiss.
Before either of them knew it, Rude had picked her up in his arms and she was directing him to her bedroom. Once they were on her bed, they started undressing each other. Shalua’s nerves sizzled as she ran her hands over his well-muscled body as he ran his lips over her body. Rude was gentle and thorough, and as they in each other‘s arms afterwards, Shalua suddenly sat up.
“What is it?” Rude asked, concerned.
“You still never got your glasses back.” Shalua said with a smug smile.
“I got something better.” Rude pulled her back down to him with a matching smug smile and kissed her, and they soon forgot all other matters.
***
The next day at work, Reeve was just about to enter the laboratory when he heard an explosion. Rushing in, he saw Shalua with the fire extinguisher in her hands, putting out a fire in the centrifuge.
“What happened?” Reeve asked her.
Shalua whirled around and sprayed Reeve in the face with the extinguisher and then blushed when she saw her boss’ face covered with CO2. “Oh! I’m sorry, Reeve.”
Reeve coughed. “What happened?” he demanded again.
“I’m not sure, I…” Shalua started to say.
“You’ve been distracted all day, Rui.” One of the other scientists interrupted.
“Okay, clean up here, I’ll be back.” Reeve left, wiping his face off.
When he got back to his office, Reeve turned on the security monitor and accessed the laboratory cameras to replay the time just before the explosion. He saw Shalua filling up vials properly, but instead of putting them into the centrifuge, she just stared off into the distance and started smiling, then started pouring the chemicals into centrifuge and walked away, and then the explosion happened.
***
Reno and Rude were trying out yet another new bar on their lunch break, and Rude was distracted as well. Reno watched in disbelief as Rude started pouring his beer into the pretzel bowl and started eating the pretzels.
“What in the hell’s wrong with you today?” Reno peered closer at Rude. “It’s that Shalua chick, ain’t it?”
“I told you, a gentleman never tells.” Rude reminded him.
“Uh-huh. You’re hopeless, you know that, right?” Reno said.
***
A week later, Rude and Shalua were back at her place, enjoying each other’s company after dinner. As she clung to him when she felt him enter her, she realized why she had kept seeing him despite the fact he was a Turk. She felt human when she was with him, not just half a machine.
After they enjoyed mutual satisfaction, Shalua curled herself against him, and Rude’s arms automatically encircled her. Having her in his arms suddenly made Rude aware of why Reno had said he was hopeless. He was a Turk in love.

Bluebird Video
Album Challenge Master List
The redhead, Natasha, had dropped off some clothes for you. They felt a bit awkward, but they fit. You gazed at yourself in the mirror, marveling at how different you looked. You look almost like you belong here.
That thought spoils your mood. You wanted more than anything to stay here, stay with Bucky. You don’t have much left in your old life, your family was small and now all gone. But here, you could have a second chance. Bucky refuses to help, but maybe Tony and Howard can. It takes you a while, but you find them in a lab working away on the transporter. You note, to yourself this time, how similar they act. In fact, Howard looks exactly like he does when he hasn’t slept. Since they hadn’t noticed you, you backtracked to the kitchen, grabbing two coffees and a small bag of pastries.
Tony and Howard don’t even notice you enter the room the second time. You set the coffee and food down on a clean surface near them before clearing your throat. It takes a few tries before Tony looks up, followed by Howard.
“Coffee,” you ask with a smile and all the charm you can muster. This plan has to work since you don’t have a backup.
Howard moves first, greedily taking a cup and rummaging through the bag for a pastry. You pick up the second cup and hold it out to Tony. He contemplates your offering for a moment before taking the cup with a smile.
“You’re not bad at this assistant thing. Need a job?” Tony smiles, but his offering doesn’t feel like a joke.
You huff out a laugh when you realize that he’s probably already worked out why you’re here and what you want.
“I might have to take you up on that offer. But for now, I’d like to know if I can see my file. The one that you said was ‘suspicious.’”
He grabs a thin folder from a table behind him and tosses it on the table next to you.
“Thought you might appreciate it printed out. I know how much trouble your boys had with all this newfangled technology.”
You pick it up with a smile, confirming your suspicions about Tony.
“I couldn’t find anything, and that says something. Maybe some fresh eyes will help.” You nod at Tony as you flip through the file. It is really sparse. Nothing much of note until you get to the last page. It is a letter from Peggy confirming your MIA status.
Agent Y/N Y/LN has been confirmed as missing in action. At this time, no further action is being taken. Her work and home belongings have been placed in storage under her identification number.
Director Carter
You read the letter through several times before looking up at Tony with a questioning glance.
“Friday can provide you directions and access to the storage facility, and anything else you need help with.” Tony said with a smirk.
“Friday?” you ask.
You stare at the ceiling in bewilderment when a voice rings out. “Yes, ma’am?”
“Um, where can I find Bucky Barnes?”
--
With Friday’s help, you eventually find the gym.
“Fuck,” he mutters when he spots you.
“You learned some bad habits in the army,” you scold.
“It’s Steve’s fault.”
“You always say it’s Steve’s fault.”
“It usually is.”
You huff out a laugh of agreement. Quiet falls between the two of you because you don’t know how to ask the question you need to.
“You look, you look like you belong here.” Bucky breaks the quiet first. His statement feels like he’s reading your mind.
You look down at your clothes before smiling back up at Bucky. “Actually, I need help with that.”
“No.”
“What?” you question angrily. “You don’t want me here?”
“It’s not that. You heard Bruce.”
“So you do?” you interrupt. “You want me to stay.”
Bucky hesitates. “More than anything, Bluebird. But-”
“That’s all I need,” You interrupt again. “But if this works, you have some apologizing to do.” Before he can question or stop you, you turn and leave. You follow Friday’s directions, and with only a few wrong turns and trying to get into the wrong building on the first try, you find the storage warehouse.
You identify yourself, and thanks to Friday’s help, the guard lets you in. The worker at the desk looks bored and startled when you walk up.
“Hi! I need box 4857210.” You bite your lip nervously hoping it would work.
“Right.” He clumsily types in the number. After a few seconds, the instrument beeps and he raises an eyebrow slightly. “This is an old one. It says you need a password.”
Your eyes widen in surprise. “Oh, um.” Your brain races through possibilities before settling on one with a small smile. “Bluebird?”
He’s skeptical at your uncertainty, but he types in the password. After a few moments, it beeps again. “You can have a seat, they’ll bring it out in a few minutes.”
You sigh with relief and wait impatiently. The crate is smaller than you expected. They leave it and unlock it for you. The dust flies as you open the lid. It actually contains quite a bit. Pictures, clothing, and some smaller trinkets. But you ignore it all for the envelope sitting on top. Your hands shake slightly as you open the envelope and slide out the letter inside. With a smile, you turn to the man.
“Can this be delivered to my room?” you ask.
He nods wearily as you close the crate.
--
You were still nervous to drop this news in everyone’s laps. Especially Bucky’s. He said he wanted you to stay, but doubt began to pull at the edges of your confidence. You should have known it would be Peggy who would erase your doubts. You were rereading the letter over and over in the common room when she walked by.
“Has anyone mentioned that those clothes suit you?” You turned as she spoke. Peggy had chosen to stick with her uniform.
“Not with those words, exactly.” Your smile falters slightly when you think of Bucky’s reaction.
“What do you have?” she asked.
“Oh,” you hand her the letter. “It’s from you.”
Her eyebrows raise in surprise as she takes it. Her mouth dropping open as she reads it. You’ve managed to shake the unshakeable Peggy Carter. Well, technically she wrote the letter, but you’d take a bit of the credit.
When she finished and looked up at you, her shocked expression grew into a large grin.
“I know this has been stressful. I have been so wrapped up in seeing Steve again, I haven’t been there for you at all.” You tried to protest, but she cut you off. “No, I at least had the chance of some closure with Steve. You, on the other hand, never knew how he felt, how you felt, until it was too late. I’m glad you’re going to get that chance.”
“Chance for what?” Peggy and you spun around at Steve’s question.
Peggy was quick to respond before you could and handed Steve the letter. Smiling pointedly at Bucky, she said, “she’s staying.”
“What?!” Bucky snatches the letter from Steve before he can read it. After a quick scan, Bucky looks up at you. “Is this real? What does this mean?”
“I found the letter in storage with my things. No one else knew my identification number, but I did. I think it means that I can stay. That I’m meant to stay.” You squeal with surprise when Bucky lifts you up and spins you around. You’re dizzy when he finally sets you down. “You’ve been kind of a jerk, you know?”
“He’s always been a jerk,” Steve interjects.
Bucky glares at Steve over your shoulder. “I don’t need your help right now, punk.”
“Are you sure?” Steve asks.
“Steve,” Bucky threatens.
“I’m just saying, I’ve been waiting on you to finally do this for a long time.”
“Steve, how about we leave them alone?” Peggy coaxed, pulling Steve gently by the arm.
Bucky smiles down at you. “He’s right. I had a million chances to do this, and I never did. I’m sorry for that. And I’m sorry that when life gave me another chance I didn’t grab it with both hands. I just couldn’t get my hopes up and lose you all over again. Can you ever forgive me, Bluebird?”
You smile at Bucky, your Bucky. “I will,” his smile grows, “but for a price.”
Bucky’s eyebrows raise. “And what’s that?” he asks.
“A kiss?”

Soldier On
Steve Rogers/Captain America x OC (Ava) (Masterlist)
Ava sets out on her classified mission. The idea that she couldn’t trust SHIELD never crossed her mind. (During Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Warnings: Being held captive and experimented on. Nothing too graphic.

I boarded the quinjet with time to spare. I had kissed Steve goodbye and promised to contact him as soon as I could. I settled into my seat and picked up the intel folder left for me as we ascended.
My mind was still with Steve. It was stupid how much I missed him already. But all the other missions were quick work. Pierce had warned me I could be gone for up to a month. They had discovered a HYDRA facility in Siberia. I was needed to sift through the records and document everything. I tried to focus on my information.
“The Winter Soldier Program...oh my God.” I muttered to myself. This was huge, no wonder Pierce insisted on absolute confidentiality.
I felt something bite the back of my neck and my vision started to darken. I opened my mouth to say something, but fainted before I could.
“Agent Erskine?” A voice was sliding through the fog. There was a light behind my eyelids that made me turn my head to the side.
“Agent, I’m afraid you’ve had an accident. But don’t worry. You’re fine.” The faceless voice seemed to be slower than normal.
“Where-” I tried to open my eyes. But they were so tired, everything was so heavy.
“We can talk later. Rest now. Increase the sedative.”
A warmth spread over my body. I felt very content. I also realized I didn’t feel anything else. I couldn’t feel the doctors emotions. How nice.
“We need to start the treatments.” A new voice joined the other. I knew this voice. But it wasn’t important. I was going to a USO dance with Steve. I wish they’d stop talking so I could hear the music better.
“It took us years to break the asset. How do you expect results within a month?” Professor Voice said.
“Because Zola already laid the groundwork for her. The sedative is obviously working, so the serum he designed should do the same.” Familiar Voice was getting frustrated.
“The serum won’t be enough. Wiping and programming takes time. She needs a trigger, training-” Professor Voice was getting frustrated too. I heard him sigh heavily.
“Do you realize the immensity of this project? HYDRA has gained enough of a foothold, finally. We can smoothly take over SHIELD and eliminate the threats.” Familiar Voice mentioned HYDRA...and earlier Zola. Was I back in Germany?
“I don’t understand why we had to do this now. There would be time to get her after-”
“After what? Do you think that there won’t be resistance? She and Rogers would be gone, we wouldn’t get another chance at her. We need her for the next step. She needs to be working for us.” Familiar Voice knows Steve. So, not Germany.
“We’ll do what we can. Zola was never able to wipe her, we’ll have to focus on programming.” Duh, Professor Voice, Zola knew he would never be able to wipe my mind. He had other plans. Do you not have his original treatment?
“Then do it. The asset is inbound. Get his team ready.” I heard Familiar Voice stalk off. Professor Voice was muttering to himself.
At least it was quiet now. I could hear the music and Steve twirled me in my red dress. His eyes shined as he smiled at me.
-
Time had no real significance here. I only knew if someone mentioned it. Week one they kept me sedated. Week two they added something to my drip and everything started to change.
“No!” I screamed as my team of doctors or whatever surrounded me. My head was clear of the fog but now it was going to explode. The pressure was building in the center of my brain. I shrieked, unable to form words. I think that went on for three days. They left me in a cold empty room to suffer.
The fourth day the IV burst. I wanted it to stop. I had focused on it so hard something in my mind snapped. But after that the pressure in my brain went away.
“Hook her up again, level three of the serum and sedative. We start phase two tomorrow.” Professor Voice was back. I was happy the pain stopped. I could finally fall into the warm, dark again.
The next time I woke, they were sitting me up. I finally got a good look at where we were. I had been strapped to a gurney. We were surrounded by steel, like in a bank vault. People were milling around.
“We need to get her in the chair. Soldier will be back soon, he may need a touch up.” Professor Voice looked in my eyes with a light and took my pulse.
“No.” My voice was monotone. My hair hung around my face in greasy strands. I could see the chair they were talking about. I didn’t like it. They ignored me of course. Not like I could fight them. My mind was still struggling to figure out how I ended up here. What I was doing here. Sometimes I would start to figure it out. Then I slept again. They buckled me into the chair and shoved a rubber bite into my mouth.
“Increase the drip. Have there been anymore incidences?” Professor Voice asked.
“No.” The tech who was securing me made eye contact with me. I glared at him.
There was some noise and the chair reclined, something moved over the sides of my head and one cheek.
“Go.”
This was worse than the IV. Not just my brain but my body was on fire. I cried out, tears streamed down my face. Something burst behind my eyes and my memories exploded.
“Oh my God.” Professor voice muttered.
I heard things breaking, shattering, snapping all around the room.
I was meeting Steve. I was watching my father shot. I was with Bucky, sifting through his emotions. I was kissing Steve the first time. I was with both of them, laughing. Bucky was gone. Steve was gone.
“Sir, should we shut it down?”
“Not yet. I want to document this.”
I was on missions. I met baby Tony. I was partying. I was using sex as a distraction. I met Fury, Clint, Nat, Maria, Pepper, Coulson, Bruce. Everyone’s faces swirled. I was on the helicarrier with the Avengers. Birthdays and dates with Steve. Steve’s eyes. Steve’s loving me. I left Steve to board the quinjet. I was never going to see him again.
My cry evolved into a primal rumble in my chest. I jerked my body and actually wrenched one of my wrist confines loose. The machine made a noise. I jack knifed my body, trying to writhe out of the machine. I was lucid for the first time in God knows how long. The realization that HYDRA had survived and were using me as a lab rat crystallized. I spit out the rubber mouth guard.
“What the fuck did you do to me?” I growled.
Something popped and the lights went out. Emergency lights went on as people scrambled. The chair was shaking. I was doing it. What did they do?!
“Turn up the sedative, turn down the serum!” Professor Voice looked terrified.
“Monsters!” I screeched and a wave flowed through the room. It was like a small seismic shock. Some people stumbled in their scramble and a couple of monitors fell with a shower of sparks.
“Mission Fury complete.” I voice came from the entry, a team of men in black gear behind him.
My head fell back as I felt something new, but familiar.
“Get her onto the gurney. Move her into another chamber.” Professor Voice directed.
I jerked my head to where a man with long hair was standing in a dark uniform.
“B-” Simultaneously I was stuck with a needle and struck with a fist. I went back into the dark.
-
I surfaced faster this time. I didn’t think I had been out for long.
“We’ve apprehended Rogers and Romanoff.” I turned my head and saw Rumlow talking to Pierce. For a split second I thought I was back at SHIELD.
“Very good.” Pierce was Familiar Voice. Wonderful. And he was watching something. The man with long dark hair was in the chair.
“Soldier just needs some maintenance. According to Erskine’s bloodwork, the serum enhanced her rouge gene even more. She’s almost as enhanced as Rogers and the Soldier. Not physically, but mentally...she’s off the charts.” Professor Voice was with the man in the chair.
He was tinkering with the man’s metal arm. Metal Man looked familiar, but it was harder to think with the warm waves. It had been so clear before. Like Steve, Steve was fuzzy around the edges. So was everyone else. The metal arm tossed Professor Voice and I laughed. Pierce noticed I was awake. The Metal Man looked over at me. His eyes were so broken. I felt a flare of agony from him.
“Put her out.” Pierce gestured and a tech injected me.
-
I woke up and something was wrong. I was alone and my IV was dry. I heard screams and struggling. I tried to sit up and saw Metal Man coming towards me. I flinched away as he reached me. He raised his hands in a reassuring gesture.
“That doesn’t work when one arm is bionic.” My voice was raspy.
One side of his mouth quirked in an almost-smile. I removed my IV and tried to stand. He caught me as I fell. With his metal arm around my back he used the other to pick me up under the knees. I went to put an arm around his neck and he went rigid. I felt a flood of emotions and forgot how to breathe for a moment. I tried to soothe him. For some reason I saw him in my mind, younger, with a small blonde boy. He felt calm and loved.
“Bucky…” I breathed and moved a lock of hair away from one eye. How did I see that? His past.
“No.” He moved away from my hand and started to walk. “Don’t touch me.”
I tried to push our past into his mind. My head got fuzzier and I laid my head on his chest. The next thing I knew, I was jostled and realized I had fallen asleep as Bucky carried me. I gripped his neck tighter on instinct. He tensed.
“I’m sorry.” I said softly. He didn’t acknowledge me. I pushed as much calm as I could into him as I could manage. Pulling up the memory of him and Steve.
“I would knock that off. It takes it out of you.” He slipped through the door to what looked like a basement, gripping me tighter.
“You know me.” I found the emotions I connected to him and the memory of the picture in my locket surfaced. I pushed that out to him. All I got back was confusion, odd flickers of labs and a cold feeling.
“Stop it!” He said and dropped me to my feet. I stumbled but got my balance enough to lean against a wall.
“What happened to you?” He approached me cautiously and pushed a grimey lock of hair off my cheek.
“You and him…”
“Huh?” I reached out to him and he stepped away, vaulting across the room and up the stairs. Layers of gauze were falling over my eyes. I was so tired and everything hurt.
I made my way to an elevator and hit the button marked L. My head rested on the wall as I moved upward. The bell dinged and I saw Maria as the doors opened into a bustling hospital lobby.
“Ava? What...where have you been?!” Her eyes widened as she took in my appearance. “We need a wheelchair over here!”
-
“Ava, whatever they did... it’s not going away.” Bruce swiveled in his chair, Tony was looking out the window high in Avenger’s Tower.
It had been weeks since SHIELD was torn apart, Fury turned out to be alive but went underground. Nat had done the same, she would check in occasionally but her first home had fallen.
Steve and I had moved into the tower. Staying in DC was not an option. My distrust for authority was now pathological. I didn’t trust anyone who had been involved with SHIELD unless they were close friends.
I was happy to be with Bruce and Tony. Steve had left on a personal mission with the jogger he had befriended, Sam. The mission was Bucky. He had ghosted and no one had a clue where he was. I liked Sam, he was sharp and funny.
I did miss Steve. Bucky had beat the hell out of him and we both took some recovery. Almost as soon as we were better I was placed at the Tower and Steve left. It was better that way. The shit they gave me when I was held in the vault and the attempt to erase my memory had unlocked something. Bruce and Tony had been running tests to assess the damage.
“I figured that. Look what they managed to do to Bucky. They reprogrammed him. With me they just managed to defy evolution and turn me into a danger to mankind.” I scratched my head and gritted my teeth.
“Oh stop feeling sorry for yourself. Green rage monster, there. Arc reactor in chest, here.” Tony rolled his eyes.
“Banner, you wanna read that diagnoses to him? Or should I just demonstrate?”
“No, we need him conscious...and there is a lot of expensive equipment here.” Bruce pulled up my file. “Empathic Power Randomization; strength increases when angry, can heal self and others when feeling pain. Also manifesting as: Emotional Energy Manipulation (shocking others when startled), Empathic Inundation (trapping others in memories related to emotions).”
“Okay, so you’re a little more fucked up than us. Stop bragging.” Tony shrugged.
“A little?!”
