The Fallen and Forgotten
Chapter 1
word count: 923
The old ship rattled onto the landing platform in the City-State of Avastia. Workers quickly rushed up to aid in the ship’s descent, knowing full well what happened last time. They grabbed fire extinguishers and sent someone to run and tell the boss that “That damned ship is back! Quickly, tell it to leave before it crashes again!”
The engine sputtered and the workers held their breath as the ship picked up speed in its descent. Thankfully, the engine roared back to life a bit before the ship hit the platform, slowing its descent just enough to make a safe landing, but still making a hard landing with a mighty THUD as workers scrambled to get out of the way. The pilot smiled, amused at the panic of the landing crew. They opened the exit door and got up out of their chair.
“Nice landing, huh?” they said to the other two people in the ship.
“I mean, at least it was better than last time” responded the ship’s mechanic, Klic. “At least it won’t cost us thousands of credits in damages and repair.
Klic was a small, skinny creature with skin the color of the sky on a stormy day and large, round eyes constantly covered in sunglasses except in the darkest of conditions. His species came from a planet of perpetual night and winter, having to survive on the creatures that thrived under the ice, utilizing the heat of the planet’s core to not freeze to death. Most of his species had left their home world already, as the core had started to cool down, signifying the impending demise of all life there. They’re found everywhere across the galaxy and somehow always have the ability to speak whatever language you needed them to.
“Oh, go choke on a wrench, Klic.” Retorted the pilot, staring at Klic as though they might throw him through the front window.
“Captain, that’ll cost us about 700 credits and we don’t have that kind of money to spare.” the second crew member, Myslel butted in.
Myslel was a human of about average height and weight. Her white hair was always tied in a bun, exposing the gem implanted in her forehead. This was the only visible part of an enhancement to her body that allowed her to read a person’s brain waves and vital signs. She says it can’t be used to read minds, however she always manages to do so. Unfortunately, the procedure to have it installed had the minor side effect of erasing all her memories up to that point. So her name means “thought” in the old Earth language, Czech. She insists on calling the pilot Captain even though there really is no captain of their ship.
The pilot sighed, “I know but it would be so, so much fun,”
“Captain...”
“Alright, alright fine I won’t. Grab your gear and let’s get going. They’re probably waiting down there with a whole fire brigade.”
They opened the hatch and stepped out into the cool breeze and warm sunshine of a beautiful Avastian day on Relicta. The pilot’s long flowing hair blew in the breeze as they looked out at the frightened faces of the landing crew and the red, furious face of their boss, Jesan.
“Nas you son of a bitch! You swore to me that you’d have that gods damned engine fixed before you ever tried to dock here again!” Screamed Jesan, becoming more aggressive with each passing word”
“Well, we did!” replied Nas, the pilot. “We didn’t crash this time, and nobody was hurt so I’d say we did a pretty good job, too!”
Jesan’s rage grew, “A pretty good job?! A pretty good fucking job?! Your engine cut out during descent and pure fucking luck made it so you wouldn’t crash into the ground and kill yourselves and others!”
Nas, looking for a way to anger Jesan further, pointed to Klic and said, “He’s the mechanic, blame him.”
Klic, looking at Nas like their claim was completely idiotic, said slowly, “Nas, I would have been able to completely fix it if it wasn’t for the fact that you spent a ton of our money on drinks and gambling.”
Now, Jesan’s rage had reached it’s maximum capacity. She could barely even speak over the thoughts of murdering Nas right then ad there. Myslel shot Nas a warning glance, knowing full well what was about to go down.
Nas, trying to hide a smile, said “Oh yeah that’s right! Oops.”
Jesan, in a fit of blind rage, reared back and punched Nas as hard as she could in the stomach. There was a thud and a barely audible crack as the punch landed, Jesan reeling back in pain and clutching her hand. Nas, on the other hand, remained unphased.
“Forgot I’m half metal, didn’t ya?” Nas laughed as they watched Jesan writhing in pain.
You see, Nas was a cyborg, getting metal limbs and a torso as more than half their body was destroyed in an explosion. Nas constantly gets new modifications to it, claiming their half robotic body isn’t perfect yet.
Myslel, already at Jesan’s side, looked up and said, “Nas, why do you feel the need to do this? You broke the poor woman’s hand!”
Nas, now trying to stifle their laughter, said, “Hey, it wasn’t me, she started it!”
Myslel gave them a look and went back to tending to Jesan’s injury.
What a perfect way to land, Nas thought, I have a feeling today’s gonna be a fantastic day!

I’m struggling so much financially and honestly just wanted to vent somewhere. I’ve always lived in poverty and I think in my whole life I’ve had maybe 2 years where I didn’t have to stress about money and not be able to buy groceries or pay rent or be put into collections for not being able to make payments etc and that was when I was in college. For at least the past 5 years I’ve been struggling but I never talk about it. I don’t even know where to start haha I don’t even know what it’s like to not stress financially and be in debt. I’ll just start with the first things that come to mind with what I’m owing maybe. So it’s Dec. 23 and rent was due yesterday because we moved into this small suite attached to someone’s house on Nov. 22. It’s $1200 which is so expensive, but also the average price for BC if not even cheaper for a one-bedroom with a yard, utilities included. and no first and last, no pet deposits, etc because this is just short them for 4 months until the end of March because i reached out and asked and they said yes.
After 1 month I already remember why we went into the trailer almost 2 years ago and it’s literally because we can’t afford any other lifestyle. I think that’s the difference between us and some people that live in trailers, vans, etc. like we lived in a mouse & mouse shit infested trailer for 6 months breathing in their feces and urine and having it all over all our belongings. i literally had to take my whole life to the dump and we officially have no food storage because they ruined it all. there were at least 50-60 mice because a few birth cycles happened in the ceiling. I could write a whole post about my experience of living with field mice, but now isn’t the time so for rent, i only had $600 yesterday so that’s what I gave them. thank goodness they were okay with me asking for a few more days to make the other half. but I don’t even know when that’s going to be :(
my etsy shop veganveins has been doing so bad lately for more than one reason, most of my orders are just postcards and stickers, and while I’m grateful for them, that $1-3 profit isn’t going to keep my business going. and it’s so hard for me to work lately. the wifi doesn’t work sometimes for hours and I always get distracted by shawn and the dogs working from home in a small space. I need to get better at my time management. I got up at 8:30 today which is actually early for me so I’m proud of myself. I’m chronically ill and I really need to go get a blood test and see what’s happening because I haven’t gotten one since being diagnosed with graves disease again 1.5 years ago. anyways. i switched to a print on demand method this year for veganveins for some shirts and sweaters because i couldn’t afford to keep ordering shirts in bulk, and it’s honestly been so, so expensive and i barely make any profit. I’m currently owing my t-shirt printer $999 on one invoice (it was originally $2196 so I’ve at least paid half of it) but that was 2 weeks ago and I still need to pay it. Mario, my t-shirt printer has been with me since I started veganveins and I’m so grateful he gives me extensions on paying the invoices. every other t-shirt printer I’ve ever asked has said no. in addition to the $999 there’s going to be another $2200 invoice I’ll be receiving this week for my last order. I think because of the holidays he’s going to give me some time to pay off that too, but the problem is when I have outstanding invoices he doesn’t print new orders for me. He’s closed now until Jan. 4 so I just need to somehow make that much before then.
btw I don’t have a credit card ($8500 all used on veganveins and it got put into collections last march) and I had a fully used $5000 line of credit but I got a debt consolidation loan for $16,000 1 month ago and my payment for that is $167 a month. it fully paid off and closed my credit card and line of credit + $3000 overdraft which is nice. but now I don’t have any extra money except for what comes in. my credit is only 640 which is really bad in canada so I won’t get approved for a new credit card or loan until I build that up, which is going to be a few months of regular payments. so for regular payments, the $167 for the loan is due on Dec. 27. Yesterday the trailer loan which is literally unliveable from what the mice did until we renovate it came out for $260, that’s how much I pay once a month for it on the 22nd. I didn’t have $260 in my account so it got rejected and I got charged a $48 NSF fee. omg if anyone is reading this long i’m shook. i’m genuinely just writing this for myself to process my feelings and in case anyone was curious about my financial situation here you go haha. maybe some of you can relate, maybe some can’t. anyways. so now I somehow have to get $260 in my account for that for when they try to take it out again in the next few days.
another payment that was supposed to come out yesterday but hasn’t, but I’m sure will come out today is our truck loan. they deferred it for 8 months because of covid which was so nice, but we started paying it again 2 months ago. for both those months I called and made my payment a later date and that helped, but there’s barely any service here so when I called 4 times yesterday to try and change the date the payment comes out, I was on hold for 20-30 mins then my phone would disconnect and hang up. so that’s $586 and it will come out today, I have $0.46 in my account right now so it will get rejected and I’ll get charged another $48 NSF fee. this is why being poor always costs more and the banks are always harsher on those who don’t have money. today I’ll try calling again to see if I can ask for it to come out on a different day like january 10 instead, so I can first have time to pay rent and the trailer and also our $190 truck insurance which got rejected from my account 3 days ago, which was another $48 NSF fee. oh and something else i’m so stressed about is CIBC is going to put me into collections on December 28 if I don’t pay $1000, $700 of which is purely their fees. I have a $300 overdraft which they said i have to cover by then and the $700 is literally their $48 fees added up over the past 3 months. I got a text from them today saying my account is over and it’s because an amnesty international $11 monthly donation came out and obvi there’s no money in there, so that’s another $48 they charged. they’ve already given me a month to pay it and don’t want to wait any longer :(
I owe everyone in my family money, my sister $1650, my mom $700 and my brother also lent me $700. none of my siblings have money either and my mom definitely doesn’t so I hate that i had to borrow that much, and it’s literally been months. thankfully they’re so patient but i can’t wait to not owe them that
omg and i can’t even think about the amount of money shawn’s grandma has lent us. she’s genuinely the only reason we haven’t been completely homeless. but it’s a lot. like i don’t even want to say the number on here. she let us use it from her line of credit over the years and we’ve been slowly paying her back, but she lets us go months at a time without making a payment which i honestly hate doing, but have no choice. i’ve felt a lot of shame and guilt about this, but I also know that she genuinely would rather help us than see us suffer.
so i’m gonna talk about a big reason I’m broke this month especially - saving a pig named buster. his rescue cost me $1850 out of pocket that I didn’t have. but otherwise he was going to be killed in 2 days, he was my baby and I loved him so I had to do it. I somehow made $1350 that went towards it but I’m still owing $500, which I just asked for an extension for today until the new year. i’m not really supposed to talk about it but everything I’ve ever posted here has stayed here, so that cost was literally just from me buying the pig off the farmer. myself along with everyone else ive talked to is disgusted that he charged that much, but he wasnt budging and if that’s what it was going to take, of course I’m going to do it. I wouldn’t think twice about doing it for my dogs and Buster was smarter and more affectionate than them. i love him and I’m so happy he was saved. a non-profit organization transported him to a sanctuary and it was my biggest wish come true and the happiest moment I’ve had all year. my eyes are literally tearing up haha i love him so much. i could write a whole post about his neglect but basically he hasn’t had fresh water in weeks, he was only being fed handfuls of mixed nuts, he was constantly dirty in a muddy enclosure with an electric fence that he was always getting shocked on. he never got true love or affection except for when I gave him it. i posted an instagram story about him and asked people to message me and that i needed help, 2 people donated $111 and $120 each, and 2 other people donated $15 and $12. Someone also e-transferred me $20. These 4 donations equaled almost $300 ($277) and I was so grateful for those people wanting to help me help buster. if anyone else wants to help me with the cost of his rescue i still do need help and would appreciate it so much. this feels really weird and vulnerable for me to do and i’m sorry if anyone is annoyed by this post, I just genuinely am struggling and figured if someone does have extra and wants to help, there isn’t harm in that. but i do feel guilty for asking because i know there are so many other people struggling out there that need even more help than i do :(
i haven’t talked about it publically but i guess I will now, this farmer that I bought buster off of is the owner of the organic vegetable farm i was living and working at this past spring and summer. we worked really hard all summer to be able to stay there and park for free in the winter, but this past fall he told us no one was allowed to stay at the farm anymore, including us, so we had to find a new place to bring our 14ft trailer in to live. so that was an unexpected bummer and if we had known we wouldn’t be allowed staying there anymore (despite doing the labour of $1200 a month for free harvesting organic kale, for an off-grid spot he told us was worth $350 a month to park) we wouldn’t have driven 8 hours with the trailer and we would have stayed in the snow in northern BC and sucked it up and lived on the land we got the opportunity to rent this fall. Donna, the woman who is renting the land to us has been the biggest blessing in my life this year. I love her so much. Basically, she’s letting us live on 170 acres for $600 a month. letting us do whatever we want on the land (building a cabin, setting up rainwater catchment systems, having a solar passive greenhouse and a huge garden) LIKE WHAT. we could even open a farm sanctuary if we had money, i wanted to so bad but obviously that dream didn’t even come close to being reality. opportunities like this literally don’t exist in canada, especially not in BC. i cant even process my gratitude, i cry everytime i think about it. when we go back in the spring it’s going to be the beginning of the rest of our life :) i want to rescue so many senior dogs. everything we’ve always wanted to do we’ll be able to do, assuming we have money haha. but i want to have an organic farm and grow veggies to donate to families in need, especially since we live on stolen indiginious land and I see how the goverment actively restricts their access to fresh healthy produce. but anyways by then it was too dangerous to drive 8 hours back hauling a trailer in the snow and it was just easier to stay in the okanagan until the spring. i know the farmer probably doesn’t realize this and he’s also probably struggling financially but not being able to stay at the farm for the winter months we worked for, and buying buster for that price is a big reason I’m in the financial stress I am now so I figured i’d talk about it.
anyways. i think this is long enough and i think anyone reading this gets the point, i’m drowning in debt, my small business is almost costing me more to run and i’m not making nearly enough profit to live, the past few months ive been living off grid (not by choice) and just focused literally on surviving and not freezing and getting water etc and not having service or internet has affected me negatively. there’s internet now in the suite I’m in, it works really good in the morning and not as well at night, like for example tumblr doesn’t work past 5 pm for me to post photos. but ive been in a bad sleep schedule since i got here that i need to change. im sick and i need to heal myself. tomorrow i’ll set my alarm for 7:30. hopefully i make some money today. i got a social media managing job and it will end up being $1000 a month once i do the 3+ hours a day of work which im already feeling like i barely have time for my own basic life tasks. but i can do this.
if anyone reading this wants to help me out a bit, my paypal email is [email protected] or http://www.paypal.com/paypalme/veganveins
and my e-transfer email is [email protected] i have auto deposit so you won’t have to ask a question :)
this is my first time in 7 years i’ve made a post like this or asked for help. i won’t do it again but figured i have nothing to lose. if you read up to here i love you a lot and thank you so much for being here <3

Happy funny question friday 😊 I’m gonna go with amaryllis for the sovereign, belladonna for andhira, and daffodil for vera!
Happy funny question friday AND saturday! sorry for the delay lol i had a game night last night then came home and went insane with insomnia and have had random shit to do most of the day today ._.
Amaryllis: What is something your oc has achieved that they are proud of? What is their biggest accomplishment?
The Sovereign is really proud of living a long ass time lol Even the like. “special” vampires like him are not typically very long lived because in this world vampires from different families don’t often get along and a LOT of people throughout history have wanted this mfer DEAD because of his position of power and what he represents and also because they’re just haters. Like. He is approximately 4000 years old at the start of our little story, which is VERY long lived. Tahire (his wife) is 3500ish years old, and Andhira and Azetahn are both about 1000 years old. For reference the average life span of even the highest born vampires is like. 800 years!!! these bitches are geriatric. (the most geriatric bitch of all was the FIRST Sovereign aka his dad who finally got murdered when he was like 8000 years old. That dude was alive when people invented pottery lmaooo)
ANYWAY what he is actually Truly proud of is like. negotiating the end to the slaughter of humankind (he has always sympathized deeply with mortals lol), establishing the Order of the Old Blood (even if people twisted its original purpose and ended up ruining it, it started out as an Extremely Significant pact that had never been seen before between humans and vampires specifically), managing to maintain the boundaries and alliances between all the other Big and Important families around the world, AND of course raising two lovely (if sometimes deranged) children with his beloved wife. :)
--
Belladonna: What secrets about your oc would they never tell another soul? Why?
Andhira tried to have her father killed once :( Well technically, it was her brother's idea, but she was the one that made the plans because she knew nobody would ever in a million billion years expect that SHE would be the one to betray him. Being the Sovereign's next in line is a very high-pressure gig, and at one point she got involved with some people who did an excellent job of twisting her perception of who/what her father is actually like (which is, well, pretty stupid on her part but she also used to be very naive) and she thought she and her twin would do a better job of things than he ever could. Obviously it didn't happen, and it really didn't even come close to happening, but she is STILL unbelievably guilty about it. Even like 700 years after the fact. And nobody knows except her brother and mother, and they sure as shit aren't going to be spilling the beans about that to anyone ever.
--
Daffodil: Who is your oc's favorite person, the one person who can do no wrong? Is this person really like that?
LOL IT'S LUKA. Vera loves both her uncles equally, but Luka is like. her GUY. He always has her back, he always knows what to say, he always looks out for her, he is her bestie, etc. Josef is the one she's actually related to (her mother's brother) but from the way they act, you would think Luka was her literal father. Growing up, she wanted to be his shadow and he got her into artsy-fartsy shit (I mean... she was a kid in the 60s/70s to a gay couple so it's impossible NOT to get a little bit artsy-fartsy lol), and he nurtured her artistic talent in a way that Josef kind of uh. didn't. Not that he discouraged her or whatever, but he was more like “listen, my darling child, I am the greatest hunter who ever lived and you come from this long line of hunters and you have natural aptitude and your uncle Josef would really appreciate it if you followed in his footsteps. Please.” And she did and it was great but obviously it also WASN'T at times! But Luka never wanted to push her to do things because he saw how much the pressure to Attain Greatness weighed on Josef's shoulders and he didn't want that pressure to fall to Vera next.
Anyway, he's not perfect and still made a whole host of mistakes in life and in raising her, but he is still a good man and is still Vera's bestie :)

You Will Never Be Rich If You Keep Doing These 10 things
Tumblr media
There are no secrets to getting rich overnight, but there are some proven systems that can help you get rich.
The reality is that everyone has the same opportunity to be rich. Some may face greater obstacles than others. But the opportunity is there for everyone to seize.
Have you ever wondered why some people are rich, and others are not? Mostly it’s because of their lifestyle and mindset.
Many people spend their entire lives lamenting the situation in which they were born, while others strive every day to change it, and that differentiates us.
Also, they still believe in easy money and that everything is a matter of luck. That is why there are still companies that steal money from others by promising to double it in a week.
There are still a lot of people that do nothing because they feel that one day “their time will come” and believe that wealthiness is a matter of divine luck.
But having money or “financial freedom” is more a matter of habits and effort than “luck or easy way,” and there are many habits that do not allow you to achieve that goal.
From living beyond your means to having a single source of income, I bring you 10 signs that say you will never be rich.
1.- Have a full-time job and work
In this world, there is nothing completely true. Everyone has the potential to make their future as they wish, and in reality, the limit is the very head of each person.
But throughout my brief life and from a few books I read, I have discovered that most affluent millionaires have one thing in common: None are employed.
Some reasons are:
An entrepreneur spends many more hours on average, analyzing and structuring their investments.
Entrepreneurs hardly take their financial situation for granted. They are always on the lookout for unfavorable changes, and this causes them to dedicate time and effort to take care of their resources.
They have to take care of their own financial situation as no one else will do it for them.
Being an entrepreneur means taking more responsibilities and risks. Get out of their comfort zone and create additional income sources.
In school, we learn that hard work will get us ahead in life. But “that’s only half the story,” says Ric Edelman, a top financial adviser.
When you are an employee, you are used to a salary. If that salary gives you to live comfortably, take vacations, and pay your bills, then you are hardly looking for something else.
However, almost no one becomes a millionaire by saving from an employee’s salary. So one reason you won’t be a millionaire is that you only have one job.
In my case, I spent 4 years of my life waiting for my salary to increase and working extra and giving my best, but my bosses only increased me when I wanted to go to another company, not because “I deserved it.”
I realize that bosses don’t really care about your performance as long as you do your work correctly, and if you are in a company that only cares about the money, you will not earn anything extra for your efficiency.
So this year, I decided to make a change; instead of waiting for a salary increase, I started working only the necessary in the company and using my energy and time for personal projects.
The result was to increase my monthly income by 150% between investments and entrepreneurship. I have learned a lot about investments, and I hope in 2021 to become totally independent.
And it’s transformed my outlook on lifemedium.com
Passive Income Is A Lie, But Scalable Income Is Real
2- Put too much emphasis on saving
If in January you put $1000 in a bank account that generates 1% annual interest, you will currently have $10 earned. However, if in January 2020, you had bought 3 shares of Netflix for a value of $324. Currently, you would have $580 earned.
I’m not telling you that you should invest all your money in stocks; that requires analysis and knowing the market. What I mean by this is that there are better ways to use your money than leaving it in a saved account.
Saving in a bank account monthly will not make you a millionaire. Invest wisely and use those savings to create additional forms of income will.
There are many (and even safe ways) in which you can use your savings today that can help you generate more income tomorrow. For example, one of the investments that I am currently doing is buying courses. Knowledge is one of the best ways you can invest your money.
I learned to invest my money wisely, and I was trying different forms of investment—for example, deposit certificates and shares.
In total, I have spent $700 dollars on courses this year. But that earned me $2200 for improving my writing. In trading, I have spent $900, but that has allowed me to earn $3000 so far.
That money in a bank account would have allowed me to buy a new handbag, but now I have new forms of income that will allow me to retire earlier in the future.
3- Believe in easy money
There are many businesses that promise you “financial freedom.” Today there are still many people who believe that they will get rich with them, but they do not really work to make you rich.
According to David Olariyone, some of them are:
Gambling. In gambling, the system makes people lose money. And also to make someone feel lucky. Gamblers lose much more than they gain over the long term.
“No-Product” Network Marketing. A network marketing without a product will eventually turn into a form of a Ponzi scheme. If you are lucky enough to be one of the first to enter, you will get money fast, but it eventually becomes an unsustainable business, and if you have your money or your friends there at that moment, you will lose everything.
Lending money casually. Family members will not take your service seriously. If your family does not want to pay you, you will not put them in jail. No matter how professional and legal you want to do business with a member of your family, it will always be something that will look casual.
Playing with Cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrency is not a way to make money; it is a way to keep the money, like to have your money in another currency. You can win big quick and lose big, even faster. If you don’t know what you are doing, you will be full of regret later.
If you want to earn a lot of money, work, invest your time and money, learn about what really works, and be consistent.
Everything I’ve accomplished so far has been hard work. From the outside, maybe other people will think it is luck, but every day (even on vacation), I have been getting up early to grow in those personal projects.
I learned from a young age that easy money did not exist when my father did not want to give me money for a cell phone, and I had to save from the school lunch to buy it. Now I know why he didn’t give it to me, and I appreciate it.
4- Never learn anything about money
If you don’t learn how to drive properly, you will never get a license. It is not safe for someone who doesn’t know basic rules to ride in a vehicle. The same goes for money.
If you don’t know how money works, you will never make money work for you.
I know people who do not know how taxes work or why companies reduce certain amounts of their salary. I always wonder how they know that they are not being scammed if they do not care about what the companies are using their money on.
Financial education enables people to better visualize their opportunities, make smart decisions, know where to get help, and take action to resolve conflicts.
For example, in my country, there is a law that those who earn a certain amount of money and are studying, the government will be returned annually 10% of the taxes they spent on education. Anyway, I think I only know 3 people who use that benefit out of the 200 people who studied with me.
Thanks to this benefit, the government has returned me up to $ 1000 for education. Using credit cards wisely, I got a “free” roundtrip flight to Boston, and I know how to make money work for me.
Something that helped me a lot to learn how money works were working for 1 year in a bank. Although I am a programmer, that experience helped me understand at a logical level how all processes work.
There I realized that loans and credit cards, in general are a problem instead of a solution if they were not for a specific purpose. Many people believe that credit cards are to spend and spend. But I learned that they are really to have benefits when you use them.
5- Don’t have goals for your money
Having goals allowed me to buy my first car at age 19, my first house at age 22, and travel 2 times a year every year. Every year I make a budget in excel and what I want to achieve with that money.
That allows me to work with more passion for achieving it and don’t spend my money on unnecessary things.
The best way to save and increase your income is to have a goal for that money. If you do not know what you want to have money for, then it would not be logical for you to save; it would not make sense to save it.
Do you want to buy a house? Get a new car? Travel the world? Those are valid goals that you can write in order to save for it.
Most of the people who do not have a goal with their savings do not have a single dollar in the account. They live from day to day and enjoy the now. If you don’t know what your financial goals are, you can’t start working to accomplish them.
“The number one reason most people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want,” T. Harv Eker in his book
The first thing you must-do if you want to be rich one day is to know the reason you want to be rich.
6-You haven’t started investing
Investing is essential to good money management because it ensures both present and future financial security.
Not only do you end up with more money in the bank, but you also end up with another income stream. Investing is the only way to achieve both growing wealth and passive income.
If you do not invest your money, it means that you plan to live only with your monthly salary and that you have no plans to retire until age 65.
If you want to retire early or become financially independent, investing is the way to do it.
Any investment is better than none, but you need to choose carefully.
The higher a return offered by an investment, the greater the risk of losing your money. In order to protect your wealth, you want to hold a mix of high- and low-risk investments.
Last year I got a mutual fund that leaves me 7% safely. There I have the money that I want to save in the long term. For short term savings, I have certificates and stocks. Also, I started buying properties. I currently have one house. In the coming years, I will continue to buy for rent and Airbnb.

How to Get Started as an Index Investor
7- Have only one source of income
Living only on your employee salary is a sign of conformity. Not looking for other sources of income means that you have no aspirations or goals to grow.
Although you are financially well off with your salary, and it allows you to have a quiet life, having different sources of income allows you to achieve financial independence, eventually.
Millionaires, on average, have seven streams of income. They’ve learned that diversification and creating multiple streams of income is the key to long-term wealth creation. This is the key to achieving what many people dream of: financial freedom.
Having multiple incomes has a lot of benefits; the principal is security. If there’s anything the last decade has taught us, it’s that no job is safe.
The economy takes wild swings beyond anyone’s control, and unfortunately, for most people, their only source of income is from their day job. When that reliable 9–5 disappears, they find themselves in serious financial trouble.
Three years ago, I only worked, I had a fixed monthly salary, and savings and my goals were only according to that income. My dreams were limited. After I started learning how to have other income, I started dreaming bigger, and now I feel like there is nothing I can’t achieve in the next years.
8- Don’t step out of your comfort zone
To become rich is to step out into the unknown and conquer fear. Exploring new thoughts and ideas and incorporating them into our lives means getting out of that comfort zone we are accustomed to.
The more comfortable you are in your little cocoon, the fewer risks you will take, and fewer opportunities will come your way.
The more contracted you become with fear, the fewer people you will meet, and the fewer new strategies you will try.
The minute you become comfortable, you stop growing.
A moment of fear can screw up your life for eternity. Being comfortable and fearful has killed more ideas, opportunities, more action, and more growth than anything else combined.
If you want to grow, you have to take risks and make mistakes.
Instead of being afraid to take risks, see each opportunity to learn new skills.
If I hadn’t made my dreams to better income goals a reality, I’d still be waiting for a raise, riding an old car, and looking for a better job. Now I know that life is more than looking for a perfect position in a company.
9- Think being rich is reserved for lucky people
Nothing in this life is a chance or divine luck.
Everything that happens to us in this life results from our actions. Getting rich can be very hard work. Thinking that become rich is luck means that you don’t want to work or take the risk to achieve anything.
People become wealthy through thousands of strategic decisions and actions that make them wealthy. They develop skills; they create products; provide services; and beyond all, provide value to other people.
It’s natural to look at someone who is wealthy and point to some “lucky” reason that they were successful. It’s impossible to know the thousands of decisions and actions that lead to success.
For example, I could write a blog post, have it go viral, accumulate a large audience, and make a lot of money. That doesn’t just happen randomly, though.
For most writers, it will take hundreds if not thousands of posts that are carefully edited and targeted before one goes viral. No one sees the year of work that went into creating a platform and audience before that perfect post took off.
Wealthy people spend years developing skills, building a reputation, and creating value before they get paid.
10-Get a credit card and spend a lot
Blowing your entire paycheck (and then some) each month isn’t an ingredient in the recipe for financial success. Neither is draining your savings or running up card balances. Most of the people who will never have financial health are those who spend more than they earn.
If you want to be poor all your life, fill out the credit card and pay only the minimum, buy cars that are more expensive than your capacity, and never make extraordinary payments on your loan.
But keep in mind that being rich in social media is not as important as actually being rich. Impressing people who don’t care about you won’t help you live a peaceful life.
To stop spending, start by tracking where the money goes every month. Try to zero in on nonessential areas where you can cut back. Then create a realistic budget that ensures you have enough to pay the bills and enough for investment.
Currently, I use my credit cards for any benefit they give me, for example, to generate points for trips or discounts in specific stores. I do not have any loan, and I will only take one when it is for an investment and the earnings are better than the interest.
Final thoughts
The general population has a love/hate relationship with wealth. Some resent those who have money while simultaneously hoping for it themselves.
There are exceptions, but the reason a vast majority of people never accumulate a substantial nest egg is that they don’t understand the nature of money or how it works.
I believe that being rich begins in the mind. You may earn a lot of money now, but if you don’t know how to manage it, it won’t last forever.
If you want to be rich, then you must educate yourself and know how the world works, because if you continue to believe that everything is a matter of luck and not work and knowledge, then I regret to tell you you will stay in your comfort zone.

TAFAKKUR: Part 43
The Human Being in Numbers: Part 1
Until today, almost all of your organs and systems introduced themselves and explained the great artistry in their creation along with their wisdom and precision. Certainly, these were not just for your information. Of course, it is important for you to know about your organs and their duties, and for you to live accordingly with this knowledge. However, its main purpose has been to introduce you to your Lord, who created you and all living and nonliving things perfectly. Just like seeing a work of art and not appreciating the artist is a twisted view, so is seeing the art exhibited on the body of the world's most dignified entity, the human being, and not appreciating our Lord. It would just be a worthless and pointless heap of knowledge.
Today, we will look at the human body statistically, have our last lesson, and say goodbye.
Before we talk about the systems and organs that make up your body, you should know that it is a blessing that God didn't leave you in nonexistence, and put you into existence. Then, you should know that it is also a blessing that He didn't leave you as inorganic molecules, but created you as a living organism. For you to understand better, I would like you to look carefully at the delicate measures of the numbers I will give you in the tables below and to realize how high your value has been lifted.
The weights and percentages of inorganic elements in a 70 kg human body:
Oxygen........ 44 kg....... 63% Carbon....... 14 kg....... 20% Hydrogen....... 7 kg....... 10% Nitrogen....... 2.1 kg....... 3% Calcium....... 1 kg....... 1.5% Phosphorus....... 700 g....... 1% Potassium....... 170 g....... 0.25% Sulfur..... 140 g....... 0,2% Chlorine....... 70 g....... 0.1% Sodium..... 70 g....... 0.1% Magnesium.. 30 g....... 0.04% Iron...... 3 g....... 0.004% Copper...... 300 mg....... 0.0005% Manganese..... 100 mg....... 0.0002% Iodine....... 30 mg....... 0.00004%
The total percentage of trace elements found in the blood serum and in enzymes, such as zinc, cobalt, cadmium, molybdenum, nickel, lead, fluorine, selenium, mercury, and aluminum, is 0.80526%.
As you can see, 76% of you (53.1 kg of oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen) are gases that dissolve into the air. These aren't worth anything because there are plenty of them in the air. From 14 cents per kilogram, 14 kilograms of carbon (coal) is worth around 2 dollars. One kilogram calcium (lime) is worth around 12 cents. 140 grams of chlorine and sodium together (salt) is worth around 3 cents. All of the other elements (such as iron, copper, and magnesium) are worth a handful of soil, because they are found easily in soil, and there is only very little of them in the human body. So in total, your elements are worth $2.15.
Let's increase your value a little bit! Our Lord didn't leave you as elements; He turned you into organic material with very large molecules, such as protein, fat, carbohydrates, and vitamins. That gives us the table below: Organ.... Water (%) …. Fat (%)...... Protein (%).... Ash (%) Skin...... 64.68...... 13.00...... 22.10...... 0.68 Skeleton...... 31.81...... 17.18...... 18.93...... 28.91 Teeth...... 5.00...... 0.00...... 23.00...... 70.90 Skeletal muscle...... 79.52...... 3.35...... 16.50...... 0.93 Brain-Spinal cord...... 73.33...... 12.68...... 12.06...... 1.37 Liver...... 71.46...... 10.35...... 16.19...... 0.88 Heart...... 73.69...... 9.26...... 15.88...... 0.80 Lungs...... 83.74...... 1.54...... 13.38...... 0.95 Spleen...... 78.69...... 1.19...... 17.81...... 1.13 Kidneys...... 79.47...... 4.01...... 14.69...... 0.96 Pancreas...... 73.08...... 13.08...... 12.69...... 0.93 Intestines...... 79.07...... 6.24...... 13.19...... 0.86 Adipose tissue...... 50.09….. 42.44...... 7.06...... 0.51 Other tissues...... 70.40...... 12.39...... 16.06...... 1.01 Blood and lymph...... 93.33...... 0.17...... 5.68...... 0.94 Total...... 67.85...... 12.51...... 14.39...... 4.84
If you wonder about your value as water, protein, fat, and ash, you can calculate it according to a 70 kg person. If you do this, you can see that you are made up of 47.495 kilograms of water, 8.757 kg fat, 10.073 kg protein and 3.388 kg ash (mineral salts). Since the water in you is dirty and not clear, it isn't worth anything. Your minerals and ash aren't worth anything because there are plenty of them in soil. For $1.42 per kilogram, your fat is worth around $12.86. Your protein is worth around 16 kilograms of lamb, which costs around $36.57. So when you are elevated from elemental material to organic material, your value rises up to around $50.
Of course, our Lord didn't leave you like this. He created you in the form of organs and tissues, which carry out miraculous tasks so that you can stay alive. Now, let's see the groups of trillions of differentiated cells:
Total number of cells in the human body............ around 100 trillion Number of cells that die in one second............around 50 million Number of cells created in one second............around 50 million Number of cell types............more than 200 Number of red blood cells in 5 liters of blood............25 trillion Height reached by putting all of our red blood cells on top of each other............around 60.000 km Length reached by putting all of our red blood cells side by side............192.500 km Red blood cells' surface area...........more than 1000 m2 Number of white blood cells (leucocytes) in our blood............40 billion Number of nerve cells............30 billion Length of a sperm............35 micrometers Diameter of an egg cell............100-120 micrometers Average length of a liver cell............30-50 micrometers Lifespan of small intestine mucous cells............1.4 days Lifespan of stomach entrance area (cardia) mucous cells............9.1 days Lifespan of stomach exit area (pylorus) mucous cells............1.8 days Lifespan of epithelial cells in lung alveoli............8.1 days Lifespan of large intestine (colon) mucous cells............10 days Lifespan of upper skin (epidermis) cells............19.2 days Lifespan of covering epithelial cells in the bladder............66.5 days Lifespan of neutrophile leucocytes............45 days Lifespan of eosinophile leucocytes............10 days Lifespan of lymphocytes............5 days to 1 year Lifespan of monocytes............months Lifespan of red blood cells............120 days Number of times a red blood cell travels the body during its life............300.000 Number of red blood cells generated in a second............2.4 million Number of red blood cells generated in a day............208 billion Lifespan of a liver cell............222 days Lifespan of a kidney cell............286 days Number of mitochondria (power plant) in a nerve cell............up to 10.000 Number of ribosomes created in a liver cell in one second............180 Total length of the DNA in one cell............2 m Number of muscles in the body............around 600 Number of muscles that work when smiling............15 Number of muscles that work when frowning............43 Total amount of work done by our muscles in one day (Equal to lifting a 6 ton truck 50 meters into the air with a crane)............around 3.106 Newtons Total number of capillaries............30 billion Number of alveoli in the lungs............400 million Total amount of air taken in by the lungs in one day…………...around 10.000 liters Total amount of air we use in 75 years............around 285 million liters Total length of the nephrons in the kidney............around 50 km Total length of the glomerulus capillaries in the kidney............around 25 km Total inner surface area of the kidney channels............20 m2 Total filtration area of the Bowman capsules in the kidney............1 m2 Total skin weight............11.15 kg Total surface area of the skin............1.5-1.8 m2 Total length of capillaries in 1 cm2 of skin............around 1 m Weight of dead keratin cells that fall off the skin in one day............10 gr Length of the nerve fibers in the skin............80 km Number of sweat glands............around 2 million Number of sebaceous glands in the skin on the head............around 120.000 Total number of cells in the skin............around 100 billion Number of sensory receptors in the skin............around 60 million Daily sweat amount............800 ml Maximum daily sweat amount............18 liters Number of cells in the retina............127 million Number of values of the same color our eye can distinguish............around 200 Number of shades of light that we can perceive............around 500
The reason I gave all these numbers was not just to show the multitude of cells, organs, and tissues, but to emphasize that our Lord can create these with the precision that He creates a single cell. Mammals also have the organs and tissues that I have mentioned. Besides, some mammals have different organs with superior aspects. From this point of view, we are not much different from a cow or a horse. However, our Lord says that He created us in the best form possible, equipped us with superior qualities, and granted us the authority over all creation. Dear Peter! It's time that you shed out of being an animal and rise to the degree of humanity. You cannot do this with your cells, organs, or tissues, but by gaining knowledge of divinity via spiritual virtues (such as the mind, conscience, and free will) that our Lord gave you.
If we see our body as a palace, could the stones, glass, porcelain, and wood come together and say, "Come on let's make a palace, which will be the greatest palace in the world." Could elements first turn into organic matter with macromolecules, then into cell organelles, then into cells, and finally into cells with different special duties, all on their own?
Finally, I believe it will be useful to give a table that shows every organ's share in your body. My advice is not to evaluate anything materially. You cannot live without your pancreas, which only takes up a very small part of your body. Your heart, which is only 0.7% of your body, pumps the water of life (blood) to all of your organs; and your brain, which is 3.5%, manages your whole body. You can never give up on your kidneys, which take up only 0.5%.
Percentages of organ weights to the total body weight Skeletal muscle (red meat)............31.56 % Skeleton and teeth............14.90 % Adipose tissue............13.63 % Skin............7.81 % Blood and lymph............3.77 % Lungs............4.15 % Brain and spinal cord............3.52 % Liver............3.41 % Intestines and stomach............2.07 % Kidneys............0.51 % Heart............0.69 % Spleen............0.19 % Pancreas............0.16 % Cartilage, ligaments, blood vessels and peripheral nerves............13.63 %
All in all, we can say that the human body has holistic perfection with its functional parts, from hair to nail, to intestines and kidneys, as well as its aesthetic beauty.

While we’re on the topic…
At SouthEnd we use a versioning tool called Subversion. It is just one of many tools doing the same thing – managing versions of files. I could go on and on about version control and configuration management. But I won’t. At least not this time. Let’s just say it’s a wonderful thing that makes it possible for us to work as a team.
Tumblr media
This time I will bring up the social part of it. Commit comments. Commit comments are messages that you write when you have made a change to a file in the project. The comment is supposed to briefly explain what you changed (committed). (As we speak, 2642 commits have been made to ilomilo) These comments, along with a list of the files that were changed, are stored in a log than can be viewed by all members of the project. This log can be compared to a giant chat log of people talking to themselves.
Your average comment might look like this: “Fixed: Scaled objects not culled properly”
This log, consisting of hundreds of little comments, will of course contain a certain amount of literary gold! And that’s what this post is really about. I’ve hand picked a few of my favourites, and will present them to you in a series of posts. (I bet you didn’t expect _this_ to be published, fellow SouthEnders…)

Can You Build a Successful Bourbon Brand by Trolling the Taters?
Tumblr media
The labels are colorful, cartoonish, comical, and a bit grotesque.
There’s Tater Bait, depicting a woman with a massive head of 1980s hair cascading over a visor.
Smash Bill shows a poor man’s Rambo, armed to the teeth with an M60 machine gun.
While Waxx Dippz displays a bald-pated man with a Van Dyke beard, seemingly staring into your soul.
Though you might not understand the joke, each of these (and six others labels) seem to be blatantly mocking the modern bourbon geek, that sometimes vile species of obsessive who covets Pappy, clears store shelves of formerly mid-tier stuff like Weller and Eagle Rare, and even adulterates bottles with silly stickers and post-purchase wax coatings, often with a total lack of awareness for their inherent absurdity.
“I deal with these people all the time. Sometimes their lack of a sense of humor is a little alarming,” says Matthew Colglazier, a longtime liquor merchandiser and marketer. “Taking a piss (out of them), that’s part of the fun, I think.”
Catch ’Em All
Colglazier has regularly found himself in the orbit of these whiskey collectors after more than a decade in the spirits industry in various capacities. The Indiana man has been buying single barrels for liquor stores for years and been making trips to nearby Midwest Grain Products (MGP), the massive, former Seagram’s distillery in Lawrenceburg for nearly a decade — well before most drinkers were aware that it was supplying upstart craft distilleries like WhistlePig, High West, and Smooth Ambler with much of the bourbon and rye they were bottling.
Scouring store shelves, looking at the thousands of non-distiller bottlers, as well as the countless craft distilleries that have emerged, all trying to get a piece of the perhaps $10 billion pie, Colglazier began to wonder how a new American whiskey brand could possibly set itself apart.
“When it comes to creating something new and different these days, that’s really a challenge,” says Colglazier.
Feeling confident in his industry acumen, however, Colglazier and some partners decided to branch out with their own brand in 2018. A family member had alerted him to Krogman’s, a whiskey and brandy distillery that had existed in Tell City, Ind., from 1863 until Prohibition, and then ran on fumes until the 1960s. Searching through trademark filings, Colglazier realized that no one owned it anymore. And, just like that, Krogman’s was his.
“We don’t own a distillery, we don’t own a license or anything,” says Colglazier. He sources all his “juice” and lets partners like Cardinal Spirits, a top craft distillery in Bloomington, do the bottling.
Early Krogman’s releases would include Krogman’s Bourbon and Krogman’s Rye, sourced from MGP and packaged at 90 proof in opaque black and red bottles depicting a drawing of the old distillery that no longer stands. It’s a typical way to launch a new brand, by evoking an esteemed history that isn’t necessarily your own and has nothing to do with the liquid in the bottle. These releases sold all right, but they certainly didn’t become a sensation among consumers. Colglazier knew he would have to start tackling his branding in a different way.
“How much innovation is there in the bourbon category today?” asks Colglazier. “I started to think: It doesn’t just have to be about the blocking and tackling of history.”
Around then, Perry Ford, MGP’s sales manager and an old industry connection, sent Colglazier an inventory list of the single barrels he currently had available. Looking over the menu, Colglazier noticed that all nine of MGP’s whiskey mash bills were available in single-barrel form, everything from four bourbons and three ryes to a corn whiskey and even a light whiskey. The MGP mash bills you’ll most often see in single barrel form these days are the ubiquitous 95 percent rye or the “high-rye” bourbon favored by Smooth Ambler and recent darling Smoke Wagon.
As a whiskey drinker himself, Colglazier wanted to try them all, but he needed a good excuse. His first thought: What if he created a unique single-barrel release for each and every mash bill, and then turned all nine into a set? Since the whiskeys were all 3 years old — a little youthful for your average bourbon enthusiast — he knew he’d have to make the labels novel, interesting, and highly collectable if he wanted to sell them.
That would start with what he called each release, naming them after the insider slang (so often intentionally misspelled) that had become popular on secondary market buy/sell sites, private Facebook groups, and message boards over the last decade.
“I tried to pinpoint relatively specific things that people would know,” Colglazier says.
Thus, there’s Tater Bait, a reference to neophyte collectors who do exceedingly embarrassing things in pursuit of rare bottles. Flipperzz refers to people who buy allocated bottles at retail costs only to immediately “flip” them for bloated, black-market rates. Dusty Hunterzzz is a nod to those who comb through off-the-beaten-path liquor stores for vintage bottles that have lingered on shelves for years gathering dust.
“Your civilian bourbon drinker would have no idea what these things meant and would just think, ‘Oh, that’s an interesting label,’” adds Colglazier.
He tapped local designer Aaron Scamihorn for the label art. Scamihorn specializes in a bold, vintage comic book style, perhaps more befitting the skate decks and even craft beer labels he also designs than the sort of staid, regal branding we typically see in the bourbon industry.
“When we first discussed this project it was the first time I’d heard the word ‘tater,’” recalls Scamihorn. His labels are inspired by the beat-up VHS box covers for campy, ’80s movies you would have seen stocked on the bottom shelf at Blockbuster (Buyy it Noww! was surely spawned from 1980s “Harlequin”). That era tracks with the late-30s/early-40s demographic of guys that Colglazier sees as most into bourbon collecting right now.
At the least, these are the dudes who already have a deep familiarity with the most online and underground parlance of the American whiskey world (Unicorn! Maxx Profitzz!) needed to get many of these jokes.
“Some were really on the nose, others were a stretch,” says Colglazier. “Some barely make sense.”
Of course, whiskey fans have long had the “gotta catch ’em all” mentality that, in many people’s eyes, has turned the industry into a game of liquid Pokemon, and Colglazier is well aware of that. But Krogman’s reminds me more of another set of trading cards: Garbage Pail Kids, the 1985 series of depraved and deformed characters meant to mock the then-frenzy surrounding Cabbage Patch Kids.
“It pokes fun, but honors [these people] at the same time,” says Colglazier. “It makes it recognizable to that consumer. It’s kind of a tightrope, and I’m not sure everybody understands.”
No BS!
The trickiest part of the tightrope, of course, is that the same people the labels are mocking are inherently the only people who might possibly desire having these crazy bottles in their collections.
“Looks like they are poking some fun at the bourbon world in general, but actually just bottling ALL 9 MGP recipes at cask strength with no BS!” wrote one man on Reddit. “Kind of better than all the other brands who make up a bunch of back stories. [sic]”
And that’s exactly Colglazier’s point. Yes, the Krogman’s labels may be satire, but the whiskey is no joke — it’s all non-chill filtered and bottled at cask strength, catnip for the whiskey cognoscenti who don’t really care about a brand’s nonsense “origin” story.
The set was first released starting in late summer 2020, mostly at big box liquor stores in Indiana, though Tater Bait made its way onto Seelbach’s, an online whiskey retailer that has plans to sell a complete set of nine in the future. There were three to four barrels each of most releases, so fewer than 1,000 bottles per SKU. (For the completists, bottlings made for the Kentucky market had variant labels meant to poke fun at all the Booker’s Bourbon releases like Country Ham.)
They sold for just $32 a bottle, a remarkably reasonable price in an era that has seen other sourced whiskeys cost many times as much. Smoke Wagon’s 8-year-old MGP single barrels, for instance, sell for upwards of $700 per bottle on the secondary market. That’s why another Redditor agreed that it was an “exploitable niche” to sell barrel-proof MGP so cheaply, calling the entire series a “slam dunk.” “The Whiskey Vault,” a popular YouTube channel, praised the series as well, loving its execution and transparency.
“Not subtle!” joked co-host Daniel Whittington.
A Collectible in the Making?
You could argue that Krogman’s is the most honest bourbon brand of this crazy era. It may seem like a troll — and, of course, it partially is — but it’s one of the few MGP-backed bottlers offering unique releases and not trying to dupe consumers and generate high demand based purely on hype. While other bourbon and rye brands pretend they exist in a vacuum, clueless to online discussions and tater-driven market forces, Krogman’s has a keen self-awareness of the hyper-obsessive culture it is being released into.
Colglazier isn’t sure where the series will go next, but a part of me feels that while leaning so heavily into the scene, he’s unwittingly created something that, in a few years, might end up being one of the biggest collectibles of the era. Krogman’s may be seen as an economically priced prank right now, but could it one day be the American version of Ichiro’s Malt Card Series released between 2005 and 2014 — of which a complete “deck” of the 54 bottles in the Japanese series sold for $1.52 million in late 2020?
Probably doubtful, as Ichiro’s came from the shuttered Hanyu distillery and Krogman’s is certainly not as well aged of stock. But sometimes it takes a few years for these ahead-of-their-time ideas to pick up steam. Even the Malt Card Series had initially been consumed by buyers, not squirreled away and collected.
“People really want to see themselves reflected back in the things they buy,” Colglazier says of his bourbon. “In many ways, what we buy, what we collect, these are validations of who we are. People have used lots of consumer goods to validate themselves. This is just taking it to the next level.”

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
Ok, this is time for a little bit of a bounceback, but it has to come against one of the best offensive minds in the land.
We can play the silly game of pretending that last week didn’t happen, and talk about “Oh, it’ll be great to see Auburn play after a week off”, but we have to be real. What happened in Columbia was at first quite pleasing, but it quickly devolved into what we may see a good bit of this season.
We didn’t really count on what would happen if we lost some of our star linebackers, and we can now reveal that only two guys playing every snap tend to get a little tired. All of a sudden, Bo Nix and Seth Williams are arguing on the sideline — this was supposed to be our special connection!
HOWEVER. After just a few games, Auburn is, by many accounts, one of the most successful rushing teams in the conference. Tank Bigsby is one of the tougher and slipperier backs in the league. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, and he’s not going down on the first hit. Ever. And even the offensive line seems to be figuring things out in the rushing game!
We have a bit of an identity problem, though. Bo Nix has thrown the ball a lot. We’ve definitely got the kind of receivers that can make those plays, but somehow Bo and his crew aren’t on the same page. The offensive line doesn’t know how to pass protect yet. I keep getting flashbacks of free rushers every time I close my eyes.
And now we’re going to be taking on a team that could be that rattlesnake in the grass, ready to bit at any time. Ole Miss hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, but they’ve had a couple of really impressive performances. First they posted more than 600 yards apiece in losses to Florida and Alabama, and diced through those defenses like nothing else. Unfortunately, they allowed about 700 yards on average to the opposing offenses. Currently the Rebels give up 265 yards per game on the ground at a 6.2 yards per pop rate. This is an opportunity.
In case you weren’t aware, Auburn has a rich history of rushers taking advantage against Ole Miss.
2000 - Rudi Johnson - 29 carries, 165 yards, 2 TDs
2002 - Ronnie Brown - 33 carries, 224 yards, 3 TDs
2004 - Ronnie Brown/Cadillac Williams - 32 carries, 196 yards, 2 TDs
2009 - Ben Tate - 25 carries, 144 yards, 1 TD
2010 - Michael Dyer - 21 carries, 180 yards, 1 TD
2011 - Michael Dyer - 27 carries, 177 yards, 1 TD
2013 - Nick Marshall - 14 carries, 140 yards, 2 TDs
2014 - Cameron Artis-Payne - 27 carries, 138 yards, 1 TD
2016 - Kam Pettway - 30 carries, 236 yards, 1 TD
2017 - Kerryon Johnson - 28 carries, 204 yards, 3 TDs
2018 - Boobee Whitlow - 19 carries, 170 yards
That’s just this millennium! You can see some of Auburn’s best all-time individual performances on that list. It’s going to lead into what we’ll see later today with Tank Bigsby. Today has to be an opportunity for the Auburn offense. Get back to what Gus Malzahn knows how to do, since apparently they’re not bad at it. We need to make this a quick game and we gotta get home for lunch.
SERIES HISTORY: 33-11 in favor of Auburn. The Tigers have won four straight and six out of the last seven.
LAST MEETING: Whew, this was a much closer than necessary 20-14 win for Auburn in 2019. Bo Nix had a great night with 340 yards passing, but the offense couldn’t punch anything in once they hit the red zone Anders Carlson went just 2-5 on field goals, and the Tigers had to rebuff a late Rebel drive late to preserve the win.
Oh, and Derrick Brown killed a guy.
Derrick Brown ran off to the sidelines… then ran back on the field to blow up the play. pic.twitter.com/Aus8zPAknB

WHAT WAS DERRICK BROWN DOING OUT THERE. HOLY HELL HAHAHA.

LAST WEEK: Well, for Auburn...
Tumblr media
And for Ole Miss, they weren’t great either. Matt Corral threw six interceptions in a loss to Arkansas. Wait, how many interceptions?
Tumblr media
So yeah, this is a game for Gus to not get fired and for Lane Kiffin to have fun because that’s certainly what they hired him to do in Oxford.
KEYS FOR AUBURN:
We touched on it above, but BY GOD RUN THE BALL 60 TIMES. Ole Miss is horrible — ATROCIOUS — at stopping the run. They literally only stopped Najee Harris by buttering the ball near the goal line, and they’re dead last — DEAD LAST — in the nation in scoring defense. Yes, last! They allow 265 rushing yards per game. Auburn must run the ball every time. 30 carries for Tank, another 15 for D.J. Williams, and 10 for Shaun Shivers in his first action back with a few sprinkled in for Anthony Schwartz or Eli Stove. If Bo Nix throws more than 15 times, the Gus Bus loses a few more passengers.
Running the ball speeds the game up, and that means our defense will be a little less tired with fewer opportunities for the Ole Miss offense, but there’s still an area where Auburn has to do better, and that’s getting off of the field on third downs. Ole Miss can absolutely roll up yards and points, and maybe our defense won’t actually be tired because the Rebels score quickly, but we need to see improvement in forcing punts. Maybe Matt Corral’s six-pick day will swing around and bit him again as well.
As much as it pains me to say this, Gus and Chad Morris have to limit Bo Nix’s involvement in the offense. Just try it for today. Let him be a game manager. He doesn’t need to be the gunslinger, and after last week, he needs to take a breather to just run the offense and not try to force everything. Sometimes watching him play quarterback is the perfect square peg/round hole analogy, but he’s the wrong type of fiery at the moment. The sideline interaction and attitude last week shows that much. Another outing like that and you’re going to have more than a few Auburn fans calling for Caylin Newton to get in the game and run his older brother’s zone read offense.
Remember who you are. When you’re the head coach at Auburn (and Gus has done fantastic at this), you need to beat certain teams at a pretty solid clip. Like an 80% clip. Gus has done that against Ole Miss, with just one loss to the Rebels (in his worst year). After other disappointing defeats during his career, he’s been hit or miss, sometimes rebounding hard and other times stringing together a pair of losses. It’s no coincidence that those were some of the instances when the Auburn faithful questioned the job status of their head man.
STRESS-O-METER:
Tumblr media
Just run the ball, guys. War Damn Eagle.

DO YOU GET ANXIOUS WHEN YOUR PHONE BLINKS, BEEPS, OR BUZZES?
Not long ago, I was due for a phone upgrade and was quite excited about it. When the day arrived, Rachel reminded me, “D, we’re upgrading phones tonight, so I’ll need your phone for a few hours.” After picking up the girls from school, she stopped by my office to grab my cell phone. Initially, it seemed like no big deal. Within a few minutes, however, I felt like I had phone separation anxiety. I was worried that I would miss a call, was concerned that I couldn’t check my texts, and was nervous that my staff might be trying to get a hold of me. The scariest part… I even heard phantom beeps and buzzes. According to a Georgia Tech study, 90% of us have experienced the phantom issues to some extent, mistaking “tiny muscle spasms” for an incoming text.
Do You Get Antsy?
Think about a time when you didn’t have your phone with you. How did you feel? Have you ever freaked out when you realized that it was on silent? According to Larry Rosen, author of The Distracted Mind, when a cell phone, laptop, or smartwatch makes a noise, it produces mental and physical reactions in people. Their heart rates increase and their skin tingles. They grow increasingly antsy with every minute they don’t look at the screen. We’ve trained ourselves, almost like Pavlov’s dogs, to figuratively salivate over what that vibration might mean. If you don’t address the vibrating phone or the beeping text, the signals in your brain that cause anxiety are going to continue to dominate, and you’re going to continue feeling uncomfortable until you take care of them.
Is Your Phone Becoming an Extension of You?
Phone separation anxiety, or nomophobia (short for no-mobile-phone phobia), has little to do with being unable to make or receive phone calls. Scientists say it’s because smartphones are so advanced and personal to us that they’ve actually become an extension of ourselves. Unfortunately, we’ve gotten to the point in society where many of us feel more naked without our phones than we do without our clothes on.
What Are You Willing to Try?
When I turned on my new phone, it prompted me to decide what notifications I wanted to receive. Of course, the default setting was that they were on for every single one of my 108 apps. In the moment, I made the decision to try something new. No, I didn’t decide to try a short-term digital detox. Instead, I turned off all of my notifications, including text message alerts. How about you? Because we are all unique, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. You might be a carpenter, lawyer, nurse, electrician, doctor, manager, or administrator. What could you try that might help you minimize phone separation anxiety?
Do You Touch Your Phone 1-2 Million Times per Year?
It’s important to note that I didn’t just turn off all notifications. I mean, I really, really, turned them off, including text message alerts. Why? Because I check and swipe my phone enough…  as do many others. According to Dscout, average users touch their phones 2,641 times per day while high users touch their phones a massive 5,427 times per day. If you do the math, that’s about one to two million touches per person per year.
At this rate, texting will be the next olympic sport, batteries will need a lives of 700%, and humans will be wearing pet cones to keep us from constantly looking at our phones. As a high user, I’m embarrassed to admit that I touch my phone two million times per year. For that very reason, I don’t need 108 notifications. What notifications do you actually need, rather than want?
What Is Your Keystone Habit?
Right now, the only time that my phone buzzes or makes a noise is when I actually get a phone call (remember those?) or when my alarm goes off to wake me up in the morning. Turning off text message notifications is a keystone habit because it has positively impacted a number of my other habits, too. What are some of my results? I stopped looking at my phone in the car, I’m less distracted when I read and write, I’m more present with my staff, and I only check my social media platforms two to three times per day. What would your results be?
ACTION: It’s been said that it takes 21 days to break a habit. Today, forget about 21 days and think about 21 hours. Today, turn off ALL of your phone notifications… INCLUDING TEXTS. Tomorrow, evaluate what you liked and what you didn’t like about fewer distractions. When you are ready, make the necessary changes that will help you to minimize phone separation anxiety.
Click to Tweet: It’s been said that it takes 21 days to break a habit. Today, forget about 21 days and think about 21 hours. Today, turn off ALL of your phone notifications… INCLUDING TEXTS. Tomorrow, evaluate what you liked and what you didn’t like about fewer distractions. #Focus

After Reddit and Douyin, who is the new engine of Bytedance?
Writer Zhang Jilong Editor Luo Lijuan. Welcome to download "Info VIP" and witness the annals instantly. More than 2 several weeks ago, well-known publisher Lu Jinbo wrote the passage on Reddit today, in which he quoted the sentence compiled by article writer Lin Yutang in his article: "Why is our world a good planet?" In those days, these emotional phrases didn't attract much attention, however they attracted the eye of Zhang Yiming, the founder of Bytedance (the mother or father firm of Reddit nowadays). He responded with a sentence that appeared to lack an understanding of "literary romance": it isn't too little nor too big, and optical fiber may enable simultaneous global communication. "The average spherical radius of the earth is 6,371 kilometers, the circumference of the spherical surface area is about 40,000 kilometers, and the swiftness of lighting is 300,000 kilometers per minute. Theoretically, the optimal system delay at any two points will not exceed 0.14 seconds, and real-time network interaction is actually feasible." Science and technology male Zhang Yiming further explained . Measuring the "worldwide", these data may be familiar in order to Zhang Yiming. In the end, at that time, the ByteDance he led was the most successful Internet firm in China's background, and its own star item TikTok was popular across the world, with more than 2 billion downloads worldwide. From Japan to India, to Australia and america, 800 million users stream various magical short videos on TikTok every month. Typically, each consumer opens the app 8 moments a day, spending nearly one hour in total. Although TikTok hasn't yet been commercialized on a big scale, the market prospects represented by its audience are mouth-watering-nearly 90% of users are between your ages of 16-44, and the post-90s account for 60%. In those days, everyone believed that the only real problem which could end TikTok from advancing was complex problems, and this was not an issue for byte beating, which had a lot of "technical talents". Until the end of June, a "black swan" suddenly appeared and broke the problem. The Indian government ordered the ban on 59 Chinese applications including TikTok; subsequently, TikTok had been furthermore in a regulatory crisis in america and Australian markets. Previously, India had been the marketplace with the biggest number of TikTok customers, with over 120 million monthly active users. AMERICA is the market with the highest proportion of TikTok's abroad revenue. The Sensor Tower report in April this season showed that in the initial quarter of 2020, Douyin and overseas version of TikTok's in-app purchase revenue has already reached 456 million US dollars, of which US users contributed 86.5 million US dollars, accounting for 19%. In just 8 weeks, the world that ByteDance faces has changed its face. Anxiety, challenging moments, suppression, survival, the media begun to put these new labels on Bytedance in reports. When confronted with the whirlpool of general public opinion, ByteDance did not respond, nonetheless it has transferred frequently recently. Along with overseas "fire battling", ByteDance is stepping up and deepening its exploration of varied domestic business sectors, including video games, education, and e-commerce. US technology press "The Information" recently reported that ByteDance has indicated to investors that the company plans to focus more on the development of the Chinese marketplace; the way is to broaden into fresh areas and make an effort to develop a new popular software. Actually if it is not hindered by internationalization, Bytedance can be facing development anxiety. It needs to tap new competitive products, brand-new traffic and income growth pillars in addition to today's Reddit, Douyin and TikTok. ** ** The TikTok crisis exacerbated this anxiety. 1 Globalization ambitions are blocked In 2016, Zhang Yiming and Pinduoduo founder Huang Zheng were a guest on CCTV Finance's "Dialogue" column. At the end of the show, the host Chen Weihong asked Huang Zheng, "In the event that you were Zhang Yiming, what can you do when facing giants such as BAT?" "I'll do globalization more radically." Huang Zheng said. He gave two reasons: the business owners at that time had the advantage of a global vision and had better opportunities to accomplish globalization; furthermore, when a firm deployed to the planet, it would subsequently mobilize global assets to enter the Chinese marketplace. Could be more calm. Both Huang Zheng and Zhang Yiming are born in the 1980s, they are very close at heart, and what the former said was exactly what the latter was carrying out. In 2012, Zhang Yiming, who still left the positioning of CEO of Jiujiufang, began preparations for "Reddit Nowadays". When naming it, the founding group initial brainstormed that the English title has been ByteDance. byte is very technological, dance is very creative, and the mix of these two words and phrases will be influenced by Jobs's "place the merchandise at the junction of technology and humanities and arts". In addition, the name also implies the ambition of globalization. Zhang Yiming hopes that company will be globally oriented when it is born. "I am certain that Chinese Internet businesses have the power to participate in global competition." In an job interview with CCTV, Zhang Yiming said that today Reddit has the opportunity to become an important portal for cellular phone users to acquire information in China and abroad. In fact, at the start of 2015, they still had doubts about whether to create short videos. In 2014, the complete Zhichun Street subway in Beijing had been full of advertisements for Tencent Weishi, and Miaopai on Weibo has been also fully promoted. At the end of the entire year, Meipai and Kuaishou had been furthermore up, "We experience we have missed it." Because of this, Zhang Yiming first played the graphic cards for overseas products-known as TopBuzz of the overseas version of today's Reddit. TopBuzz, an details distribution App, offers entered the united states, Brazil, and Japan marketplaces, as soon as stood near the top of Google play downloads. However the good times aren't long. It was repeatedly involved in headline celebration and fake information incidents, was abandoned by foreign customers, and soon started to decline. In 2019, THE INFO reported that Bytedance plans to market TopBuzz; in June 2020, another media uncovered that Bytedance is steadily closing TopBuzz. Even if the graphic items will not sea, Zhang Yiming's enthusiasm for abroad markets continues to be higher. At the Wuzhen Web Conference held by the end of 2016, Zhang Yiming made it apparent that globalization will be one of Reddit's core methods today. Only by means of likely to sea, the byte jump started to change the design of play. On the main one hand, ByteDance started to acquire overseas products that have been productive, "borrowing a boat to visit sea." From 2016 to 2017, ByteDance successively invested in DailyHunt, the biggest content integration platform in India, BABE, the most popular news integration system in Indonesia, and even tried to obtain the social information website Reddit. However, in 2016, Zhang Yiming finally made up his brain to "All in a nutshell Video", and multiple products were launched simultaneously in the home and abroad. In 2016, Douyin and Volcano video came into being. At the Reddit Creators Conference that yr, Zhang Yiming announced he would spend 1 billion yuan to support short video creators. Furthermore, ByteDance has acquired Flipagram, an American cellular video creation platform, and App Musical.ly, a short video established in China that focuses on the united states market. Included in this, the acquisition of Musical.ly simply by ByteDance in 2018 is really a crucial step for its going overseas. Musical.ly, that was launched within 2014, once ranked first about the iOS free list in the United States; it is second only to Facebook's Instagram in the photography free checklist; at its peak, one atlanta divorce attorneys five American teens makes use of Musical.ly. But the acquisition of Musical.ly is also an expensive transaction. ByteDance cost 1 billion U.S. dollars, but it also gained over 60 million monthly active users accumulated by another party in European countries and america. With the influence of Musical.ly, TikTok stands about a higher starting point. 2018 is really a crucial year for Bytedance's globalization. At the Reddit 6th Anniversary Celebration held that year, Zhang Yiming mentioned that today's Reddit 2018's annual keyword is globalization, and the business's vision begins from being an information system that understands you best, connecting people and information, and marketing creation and communication. , Became a "global development and communication system". ** ** A couple of days later, facing Qian Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua School of Economics and Management, and much more than 700 Tsinghua teachers and college students, Zhang Yiming reiterated today's Reddit globalization goal-it is expected to take three years to achieve globalization. By then, "Reddit users will Half of them are from abroad." ** ** 2020 is the last year of Zhang Yiming's "3-12 months globalization goal". On March 12, Zhang Yiming announced within an internal letter that the company's corporation has been fully upgraded-he himself is at the helm of globalization, because the global CEO of ByteDance, and can spend more time and energy in Europe, America and other markets. Zhang Yiming revealed that Bytedance's global employees will reach 100,000 this year. Up to now, BYTE workers are usually distributed in more than 180 cities in 30 countries around the world. With the growth of globalization, ByteDance is recruiting people worldwide, including enriching the overseas executive team. For example, in May of the year, ByteDance even hired former Disney executive Kevin Mayer as the CEO of TikTok. In April, Nick Tran, former vice president of Hulu brand marketing and culture, joined up with TikTok because the head of UNITED STATES marketing. In June this past year, Blake Chandlee, who has been around charge of global business cooperation with Fb for about a decade, joined ByteDance because the vice president of global business solutions. These efforts still failed to avoid the crisis from coming. On July 6, U.S. federal government officials stated they were taking into consideration blocking Chinese public apps which includes TikTok. On July 8, U.S. President Trump made the same declaration, stating that it is indeed feasible to block TikTok. In Australia, where you can find few users, addititionally there is news that Australia is also reviewing whether TikTok has information privacy risks. For TikTok, these circumstances are very bad. Although TikTok's market level has expanded quickly during the past few years, its commercialization procedure is far from keeping up. Sensor Tower's data shows that in April this year, Douyin and "TikTok" earned 78 million U.S. dollars in Apple App Store and Google Have fun with Store. About 86.6% of the revenue originated from the Chinese marketplace, referred to as Douyin, and the United States came in second. Just contributes about 8.2% of revenue. Which means that TikTok has fallen into an embarrassing situation before it has time and energy to realize it, and the huge investment in the first stage is facing the chance of falling into the water. ** ** Furthermore, for Bytedance, TikTok is an important assistance for its $100 billion valuation. TikTok's frustration could have a harmful effect on Bytedance's valuation in the capital market, brand image and even the income of its major business. "21st Century Business Herald" mentioned that in 2018, Bytedance's betting contract with investors is to achieve 70%-80% growth within 3 years, with market value of US$200 billion; when there is simply no IPO within 6 years, it will be 8% compound curiosity repurchase. Under the huge pressure of overseas markets, ByteDance is time and energy to re-examine the domestic marketplace. 2 Dig serious into video games, education, e-commerce In the current period of time, Bytedance has become a significant investor in the primary marketplace and is active on several tracks. Based on the study report of Guohai Securities, the expense layout of Bytedance provides been very considerable previously few years. From 2015 to March 2020, Bytedance's investment areas involved culture and entertainment, video games, education, marketing and advertising, mobile Internet, huge data, cloud computing, consumption upgrades, corporate services, e-commerce, equipment, etc. Among these investment cases, there are about 7 angel round companies, 20 circular A firms with a total investment around 100 million yuan, about 6 round B companies with a total investment of 300 million yuan, 7 circular C companies with a total investment of 200 million yuan, and 14 strategic investment firms with a complete around 200 million yuan. yuan. In the past 2 yrs, Bytedance's investment has accelerated significantly. 2019 may be the peak of its investment decision. The amount of investments in the complete year attained 17 with a total investment of just one 1.26 billion yuan. In 2020, it has made frequent investments in on the web literature, e-commerce, games, and finance. In February, ByteDance invested in MCN agency Zifeng Ma Niu Mass media; in March, Taiyang Chuanhe completed a 180 million yuan B round of financing, that was solely strategically invested by ByteDance; in April, ByteDance participated in "Reddit India Nowadays" "Dailyhunt G round of financing; in July, Beijing Yitian Xindong Network Technologies Co., Ltd., the business behind the web literature system Tower Reading through Literature, additional a fresh shareholder, Beijing Quantum Leaping Technology Co., Ltd., with a shareholding ratio of 18.9%. Even ByteDance offers entered the brand new retail field. Lanxiong Hotpot previously introduced the completion of tens of millions of yuan in financing. Quantum Jump Technologies Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Bytedance, is the investor and holds 15% of the shares. In TMD, both Zhang Yiming and Meituan founder Wang Xing are believers in borderless expansion. Wang Xing once said that everything does not have any simple boundaries, and Meituan does not set limitations on itself. And Zhang Yiming also talked about in the dialogue with Caijing in 2016 that in the first 1 / 2 of technological shift, as the risk is very high, it needs to be explored by a small group. "However in the next half, the dividend becomes smaller, and integration gets to be a release. Just how of dividends. At the moment, a multi-business firm will have an advantage over a single-business company." At the moment, Bytedance has mainly locked the 3 major sectors of gaming, education, and e-commerce. ** ** It really is reported that within Bytedance, today's Reddit, Douyin, games, ZERO (education and home based business), commercialization, and e-commerce are first-level company departments. Games have always been an important monetization method for traffic platforms. According to GameLook reviews, bytedance's revenue in 2018 had been 50 billion yuan, of which game advertising income was about 15 billion yuan, contributing 1/3. From the past history, Tencent, NetEase, etc. possess all used the advantage of traffic to enter the overall game field, and Bytedance has also begun to prepare for getting into the game a couple of years ago. It began to register video game trademarks in 2014 and has up to now registered a lot more than 2,000 sport trademarks. In June 2018, today's Reddit officially launched the "Today's Game" module, including various video game products and sport content material from the media; in August of exactly the same year, Douyin opened an official account for Douyin games; two months later, today's Reddit formally launched Mini game function. In 2019, Bytedance self-formulated and represented a number of mini-games and informal games, including 13 such as "National Drift", "Yinyue Ball", "My Flying Dagger 6", "Eliminate Virus", etc. The mini game has been on the Best10 free list of iOS games. Along with investing in video game companies such as for example Shanghai Mokun and Shanghe Network, Bytedance has also established more than 1,000 game teams in Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Beijing, Guangzhou and other places. The primary game categories consist of MMORPG (multiplayer online games) and ARPG ( Actions role playing course) and so forth. In June 2019, ByteDance set up the "Oasis Project" and began self-developed heavy video games. In February 2020, ByteDance's authentic strategic investment leader Yan Shi was fully in charge of the game business; on March 17, a fresh game company named Amusement Technology was set up, with Yan Shi serving as the lawful representative; in April, Yan Shi has been in a friend According to the circle, ByteDance is quite optimistic concerning the direction of the game and will continue to invest patiently; in 2020, the game business will continue steadily to recruit more than 1,000 people. Two months later, ByteDance's Chao Xi Guangnian obtained the exclusive agency of the "Naruto Ninja Showdown" game in China; at the same time, Caesars Culture, which is good at mobile video game advancement and IP storage space, signed a 10-year agreement with Chao Xi Guangnian. "Strategic cooperation agreement". This also means that the layout of Bytedance in neuro-scientific heavy games is accelerating. In accordance with "LatePost" report, Bytedance's 2020 non-advertising game income (intermodal in addition self-analysis, etc.) will be estimated to end up being around 2 billion to 3 billion. Furthermore, ByteDance can also be building an e-sports event program. In mid-July, the media exposed that Feng Weihao, the previous senior director of Alibaba and something of the heads of global e-sports, joined ByteDance. Ahead of this, he had experience in working WESG activities (World E-sports Video games). Not only games, ByteDance also focused on the education sector early each morning. In June 2019, the internal structure of ByteDance was modified, and Chen Lin was no more directly in charge of today's Reddit products, but instead was responsible for innovative business. In accordance with 36kr reports at the time, Chen Lin's objective in the next phase was to "run the third product with the DAU of over 100 million with regard to Bytedance" beyond Douyin plus today's Reddit. ** ** The field they are targeting is education, and Chen Lin is currently the head of the training business. ** ** Investing in investment continues to be an important means. Since April 2018, Bytedance has successively invested in/acquired educational items such as for example gogokid, Anxin Household, Xiaoyang Schooling, AIKID, The Minerva Task, Qingbei Online School, etc. However, Chen Lin emphasized within a recently available sharing with the training team that the biggest benefit of Bytedance for education isn't traffic, items and technology, yet strategic determination and organizational culture. The education section of ByteDance is named ZERO. ZERO has two meanings: one is to represent invention, from 0 to at least one 1; furthermore, in addition, it represents a "go back to zero" mentality. After taking the helm of the education field, Chen Lin began to direct the team to accelerate completely, with great momentum. According to incomplete statistics, you can find currently a lot more than 20 education-related products less than Bytedance. Related Educational Projects of ByteDance Mapping: All-weather Technology _ _ These products are in fact benchmarked against the more well-known opponents out there. ByteDance's educational items and bidding items, the image is from "Training and Coaching Reference" _ _ In accordance with Chen Lin, the education company of Bytedance will not consider profitability within the next three years. ** ** In addition to games and schooling, after 6 years of exploration in the field of e-commerce, Bytedance e-commerce has been put into an unprecedented important position. In June of this year, ByteDance altered the e-commerce business, and formally established a first-levels business department clearly called "e-commerce", and ushered in a new person in charge-Kang Zeyu, right to Zhang Lidong, chairman of ByteDance China report. Looking back in history, it could be discovered that ByteDance's intervention within e-commerce was initially based on diversion. In July 2014, Reddit today launched its very first e-commerce task-"Today's Sale", that is a channel for third-party e-commerce systems. In 2016, Reddit and JD.com reached the strategic cooperation today and launched the "Jingdong Strategy" to open a first-level buying portal for JD.com and assist JD.com and its own merchants to put ads accurately. ByteDance offers truly established its e-commerce platform. It was the "Shopping confidently" launched in 2017. Twelve months later, the "Buying confidently" was modified and split into "Buy confidently 3.0" and "Buy with confidence in Luban". products. In 2018, ByteDance also developed two e-commerce apps-Value Point and Xincao. The previous focuses on low-cost shopping, while the latter is positioned as a grass-growing community where teenagers want to shop. Nevertheless, the development is not very smooth. In exactly the same year, Douyin began to function hard on e-commerce, launching the "Selected Goods Alliance" and cooperating with Taobao to utilize the e-commerce advertising system "Luban" to attract traffic. During the past year, as social e-commerce, live e-commerce along with other new gameplay became popular, e-commerce has regained its recognition. The speed of ByteDance in e-commerce in addition has begun to accelerate. In 2019, ByteDance launched Douyin and Reddit shops, and signed an annual framework agreement of 7 billion yuan with Taobao; Since 2020, ByteDance in addition has exposed personal entry into small stores and launched the web business management tool "Shake Store" App Wait for a series of actions. Until now, ByteDance has signed Luo Yonghao, and contains promoted Chen He, Wang Zulan and several other stars to bring goods on Douyin, to be able to create the large amount of noise. In accordance with 36kr, the GMV target of Douyin live life broadcast e-commerce this year is as high as 200 billion. 3 Crazy digging There exists a strategy, a path, and a suitable team. Probably the most straightforward method would be to dig people on a big scale. "To provide the best ROI (profits on return), so we've been informing the HR section that we want to pay top of the market." Zhang Yiming requires the HR department to position the market salary at least one time a year to keep up a byte-beating income The level is leading in the industry. Along with giving higher salaries, Zhang Yiming also formulated attractive incentive mechanisms, such as for example increasing the percentage of year-end bonuses. "We said within the company that people hope that extremely prominent people will have the chance to get 100-month year-end bonuses." , Choice is really a long-term approach to ByteDance to motivate talents. Zhang Yiming believes that there should be the brave husband beneath the reward. Such a strategy has been proven efficient in the creation of Reddit today. Their headhunting fees for per year amounted to 200 million yuan. Where you can "hunt" talents? "Muzzle" is targeted at Internet giants. Nowadays, most of the executives of Bytedance are usually introduced from other big companies. Sources of Bytedance's executives, the picture comes from Pinterest "Quick Ask Record" _ _ With Bytedance's initiatives in games, schooling, and e-commerce, its goal of digging corners is also targeted at Web giants, and the list is even more expanded. For example, in the overall game field, Yan Shou, the top of the Bytedance sport department, comes from Tencent's Strategic Cooperation Department; Wang Kuiwu, the head of the creative team of its Beijing video game department, may be the former senior director of Ideal World. "Wulin Waizhuan"; the individual in charge of its Shenzhen workplace will be Natuo, the former product manager of Tencent Interactive Amusement Qiankun Games. At the same time, the Shanghai team of Bytedance Games is Shanghai Mokun acquired from Sanqi Interactive Enjoyment; the Hangzhou team will be from the initial Pangu Studio of NetEase. An industry headhunter told All Weather Technology that oftentimes, Bytedance gives headhunters some recommendations in advance, clarify which companies and types of people they would like to speak to most, and directly explain the key goals. For this type of target team, Bytedance does not hesitate to offer attractive circumstances. It is understood that Bytedance once poached a primary employee of a leading game manufacturer, and the problem was-"double yearly salary + additional six-figure entry bonus".
Tumblr media
In 2019, NetEase's game department changed internally and its Pangu studio was dissolved. Some insiders said that after understanding this news, someone at the director level of Bytedance invited the team to supper and provided a price that was 50% or even double the original salary. Some gamers immediately joined the overall game team of ByteDance Hangzhou. Li Fei, a senior game producer who resigned from NetEase Video games 2 yrs ago, said he also acquired an invitation from ByteDance at the time, and another celebration offered a good salary. "With 3-5 years of work experience, he can generate 400,000-500,000 yuan. "For the candidate of the principle planner and maker level, an yearly salary of just one 1 million offers been offered, "but the requirements are very high, and the typical NetEase reaches least 4-3, 5-1 level." Nevertheless, Li Fei finally rejected the invitation due to "too much overtime, 996". He revealed that ByteDance has dug many people from NetEase, including the mobile game team of Tianxia. Currently this group is secretly developing a heavy mobile game project within Reddit in Guangzhou. ** ** An employee from a major game producer revealed that Bytedance's digging for them is all-round, not only digging R&D employees, but additionally digging some back-office personnel in charge of process and source management, and even the marketing team. "Everyone has received phone calls from headhunters." In the training field, byte's recruitment demand is even greater. In the first morning of March 13, Chen Lin, the head of Bytedance Schooling, launched a micro Reddit stating that Bytedance Training will recruit more than 10,000 people this year. A headhunting corporation that acts ByteDance told All Weather Technology that the total amount of HC (Head Count) released by ByteDance this year is approximately 20,000. "The training collection is hiring even more urgently this year, as the boss emphasizes the necessity to do big business. " In neuro-scientific e-commerce, a headhunter mentioned that big e-commerce companies that well will be the targets of Bytedance. Take Shanghai as an example. Are you starving, Dianping, and Ali are key targets. An HR of a cross-border e-commerce company gave a good example to All Weather Technology a master's diploma in his company who graduated for two or 3 years was poached by Bytedance with an income of 65K*16. ByteDance also dug something manager from Ele.me, whose monthly income soared from 15K to 50K, and promised 16 salary. Jeff, an executive of the headhunting company that had served Tencent, said that during the past, they also often helped Tencent to recruit folks from Bytedance, focusing on products, technology, and operations. However, in his viewpoint, Tencent's digging force is certainly far less powerful than ByteDance. One cause is that Tencent is a platform-oriented thinking. For the whole business, the motivation isn't strong. For the most part, it may give a set of systems. software". Another reason is normally that Tencent's industry status determines that it does not need to dig, "talents (naturally) will use it as a target for job-hopping." Tencent can be even more picky about talent. "Its acceptance rate is 3.5%, which is much harder than Tsinghua University and Peking University." Since the beginning of the year, with the exception of ByteDance, the HC of major Internet companies has dropped significantly, and even giants have almost blocked HC. This has led to a sharp decline in the quantity of a large number of headhunting businesses, and even negative effects-"Since you don't give me business, I'll serve your competition." Under this circumstance, some headhunters began to switch to byte-beating providers. Jeff uncovered that people in a few departments of Tencent may have been recruited by various headhunting companies before, and these headhunters nevertheless have their contact information, so that the headhunters can hollow out the entire team in a brief period of time. Confronted with the defeating of bytes, various other huge factories also have fought back. In February 2017, a senior Baidu R&D engineer called Kang Zeyu left Baidu and subsequently became a member of Byte Reddit. In those days, Baidu sued Kang Zeyu to the labor arbitration section for violating the competition agreement and suspected of stealing and leaking Baidu's business secrets, demanding the return of settlement for the restriction of competitors and liquidated damages. In the end, the Beijing Labor Arbitration Commission produced a ruling requiring Kang Zeyu to come back and compensate the competition restriction compensation along with other costs totaling about 830,000 yuan. But there are several ways to avoid a competitors contract. A Tencent insider said that she understood that even though some workers signed a competitors agreement but ultimately went to Reddit with the guise of employment change, these employees "might not be able to learn the framework of Reddit." ByteDance's skill digging, along with working hard in the HR and headhunting ranges, can be very superior in the worker internal push program. In major Web companies, Bytedance's employees will be the most inspired to push internally. Whether it's Pulse or Zhihu, the inner force codes of Bytedance workers can be described as flying everywhere. Some workers even setup Line groups and Pinterest specifically for referrals, providing solutions such as referrals of the latest information and interview manuals. On Zhihu, a person who is licensed as a Bytedance worker said he provides internally pushed 10,000 times. The biggest inspiration for employees to push is the generous rewards given by Bytedance. An employee of ByteDance revealed that you will see cash benefits for profitable referrals. A successful push will get around 2,000-3,000 yuan. Even though the job interview fails, there will be a small reddish envelope of a large number of dollars. And the referral bonus is still rising. Some individuals on Reddit said that year's 2-1 level push charge has increased from 3000 to 7500 yuan. If you find a significant shortage of employees in a few departments, worker referrals can be mandatory, and also rise to the OKR (Objectives and Key Results, enterprise tracking focus on completion system) level. The high salary and the temptation of options that the business is going to go public make ByteDance such as a huge magnet, constantly attracting people from around the globe. However, due to the downturn within the work market this year, Bytedance's salaries for certain positions have already been reduced and so are getting closer and closer to the market average-salaries increased by about 30% on the basis of applicants' previous work. Along with digging employees, quite a few products under Bytedance, such as for example Douyin and Watermelon Video, are also hiring creators.
Tumblr media
In March of this year, in order to start the live life broadcast, Douyin dug up the web celebrity Luo Yonghao. It is said that the total amount mixed up in cooperation between your two parties will be 60 million yuan, but the official has not confirmed it. In mid-June, the Up master "Witcher Financing", which started from nothing at station B, announced that it had parted methods with station B and switched to ByteDance's watermelon video. According to anecdotal rumors, its signing charge with ByteDance is as high as 10 million yuan, and the contract period is two years. The watermelon movie not only digs up the big UP expert, however the small UP grasp does not even ignore it. Li Miao, a junior, has just been a UP master at station B for 90 days. He mainly targets digital content and has only a lot more than 1,800 followers. Recently, he made an overview video of WWDC2020. Because of the timely launch, this video was suggested as a spot in the electronic area of ??station B and obtained hundreds of wants in two hrs. Soon, business people from Bytedance came to the door. Another party invited Li Miao to open up an account at Watermelon Video, and provided a one-time fee of 1 1,000 yuan. "You don't need to begin the movie, just re-cast the video clip of the previous station b." 4 Reddit, Douyin's ceiling The beating of bytes, that is filled with firepower in many new areas, hides growth "anxiety" behind it. Based on the information of ByteDance, it currently has 13 items under its umbrella, among which domestic products are: Today's Reddit, Douyin, Douyin Volcano Edition, Watermelon Video, Undercarriage, GoGoKid, Pippi Shrimp, Feishu, Faceu is a super cute and light camera. The three main overseas products are TikTok, Lark and Helo. EOS The primary products of ByteDance, the pictures are from the state source of ByteDance _ _ At present, whether it's traffic or income, today Reddit and Douyin will be the two important pillars that support the ByteDance building. Based on the latest community data, the total MAU (regular active customers) of Bytedance's items exceeds 1.5 billion, and the monthly active users of Douyin reached 518 million. Nowadays, the monthly active customers of Reddit are usually about 263 million. The full total accounted for 52.1%. As pillar products, Douyin and Today's Reddit still have a huge gap in the amount of active users compared to Tencent's Series and QQ and Ali's Taobao and Alipay. In accordance with Tencent's 2020 Q1 financial review, the amount of combined MAU accounts of Line and WeChat arrived at 1.2025 billion; the amount of monthly active accounts of QQ had been 693.5 million. Ant Financial previously mentioned that Alipay has a lot more than 900 million monthly dynamic users in China; Alibaba's monetary report also implies that Taobao has 846 million monthly active users. Based on the "2020 Q1 Mobile Internet Industry Information Research Report" released by Aurora Big Data, weighed against the proportion of Application installations that are a lot more than 90% from Tencent and Ali, the byte defeat is less than 80%, and there's still a large gap. . When it comes to revenue, in 2019, Bytedance elevated its revenue target from 100 billion yuan to 120 billion yuan, a rise greater than 140% compared to 50 billion yuan in 2018. In accordance with Caixin reports, within 2019, Douyin items accounted for 60-70 billion yuan. Which means that Douyin, because the revenue motor of Bytedance, contributes more than half. ** ** But today, both Reddit and Douyin reach or are going to hit the ceiling. In June 2018, at a media conference, Douyin announced that its average daily active users had exceeded 150 million and monthly energetic users had exceeded 300 million. By the end of December 2018, the "2018 Douyin Big Data Report" demonstrated that Douyin's domestic daily active users exceeded 250 million and regular monthly active users exceeded 500 million. Quite simply, in just six months, Douyin's regular monthly active users increased by 200 million, with an average monthly increase of 33.33 million. In accordance with statistics from QuestMobile, within March 2020, the number of monthly active users of Douyin achieved 518 million. Which means that in the 15 months from the end of 2018 to March this season, Douyin monthly active users only increased by 18 million, with an average monthly increase of only 1 1.2 million, which is a much slower growth rate than before. ** ** According to Li Xiang, a former operator of Douyin, the development of Douyin is going to hit the ceiling. ByteDance's starting product today Reddit is dealing with double-sided episodes from Tencent and Baidu, and is gradually showing indicators of fatigue. A written report for marketers disclosed by Tencent demonstrates Tencent Kandian's day-to-day activity for de-weighting reached 240 million in March this season. ON, MAY 13th, Baidu announced at the "Vientiane" 2020 Baidu Mobile Ecological Meeting that the existing every day activity of Baidu App has exceeded 230 million, and the amount of Baijiahao creators has exceeded 3 million. At the same time, the daily life of today's Reddit App has nearly stagnated previously 2-3 years. In 2017, in accordance with a report from the media "Kaiqi", today's Reddit financing data shows that today's Reddit day-to-day active users have reached 120 million. In 2019, this data remained at 120 million. On August 1, 2019, the Big Engine Company Arithmetic Center released the latest "Reddit Content Value Report 2019 Nowadays", which disclosed that today's Reddit daily livelihood 's almost 120 million, and Reddit accounts are 1.6 million+. When it comes to everyday activity and the number of creators, today Reddit lags behind its friends. Furthermore, today Reddit has not announced the amount of users for a long period. It is speculated that the development of its consumer amount has stalled. Based to a report through the third-party organization QuestMobile, in April 2020, the total amount of Tencent Information customers was approximately 307 million, and today Reddit is approximately 263 million. The latter isn't just far inferior to super apps such as Collection, Alipay, and QQ, but also inferior compared to Douyin. Regarding Reddit's lagging at the rear of Tencent Information today, an individual from Bytedance's media company argued that the primary problem is usually that Bytedance is not as good as Tencent within the resources which can be mobilized. She believes that Tencent experienced a portal basis for many years. Some people in the media blame it on the ecological problems of Reddit today-compared with the massive benefits it has obtained in line with the content material industry, its return to the content industry and its contribution to the ecological prosperity of the content industry are pitiful; its details flow articles There is absolutely no essential distinction from Baidu, and its users can hardly break through to the mainstream. ** ** Many channel web pages about Reddit today are filled up with low-quality content material. On the other hand, many mainstream mass media with good report high quality have hardly any content readings and feedback. Take mainstream mass media such as for example "The Beijing News" and "Southern Metropolis Daily" as illustrations. The former offers 6.52 million fans on Reddit today, and the latter has 4.3 million fans. Nevertheless, we browsed and discovered that a lot of the content they released were in single or tens digits, and some articles also had zero reading. This will not match their impact. The majority of the contents of "The Beijing News" and "Southern Metropolis Daily" are not well continue reading Reddit. The picture is taken from Reddit today. In the fields of finance and technology mass media, the reading volume of well-known mass media such as "Chinese Business owner", Tiger Sniff, and "Economic Information Daily" is not optimistic. Our statistics discovered that only a few of the articles can go through a lot more than 1,000. Some monetary and technological media today's Reddit platform reads during the past 7 days. Comparing the 5 Best PHP Form Builders (and 4 Free Scripts)
If you’re using PHP to build a website, chances are at you’ll need to add a form to the site.
The most common forms on the average website are contact forms. They enable visitors to contact you quickly and easily.  But other forms can come in handy as well. For example, you may want to add a PHP email form as an alternative to the PHP contact form, or add a form to get feedback from your visitors on some aspect of your service or products. Whatever kind of form you need, you’re going to want to have one up and running quickly and easily.
That’s where a PHP form builder script comes in—also known as a PHP form generator script. Today we’ll take a look at the five best PHP form builders available at Envato Market and compare them in terms of functionality, flexibility, and aesthetic appeal. But first, let’s look at exactly what a PHP form builder is.
What Is a PHP Form Builder or Generator?
A PHP form is a form on a web page that allows visitors to the page to input information and send it to a server to be processed in some way. In essence, it’s an online version of a paper form where users fill out particular fields and then hand them in to be processed.
A PHP form builder is a tool you can add to your website that enables you to create a variety of well-designed PHP forms quickly and easily. You don't even have to know how to code!
Why Should You Use a PHP Form Builder?
The best thing about a PHP form generator is that it speeds up the job of creating and adding forms to your site. And the forms you create will look good and work well! The best-designed PHP form generators allow you or your client to create a variety of professionally-designed web forms and add them to a web page quickly and easily.
When someone fills out and submits a form, the form builder will allow the website owner to easily receive a notification via a computer or mobile device. It also allows the website owner to collect, browse, or download the data received from the form.
Not everyone who needs to add a form to their website wants or needs the same functionality, so the right PHP form generator for you isn’t necessarily the one with the most  bells and whistles. Instead, it is the one that best meets your needs.
PHP Form Builder Scripts on CodeCanyon
At the time of writing this article, there are more than 100 PHP form builder scripts available on CodeCanyon. Most of these form generator and form creator scripts give you drag and drop functionality to create your form.
They also offer ready to use pre-built forms of various types that you can start using in your website right away. Once you purchase any of these scripts, you will get free lifetime updates and 6 months of free support.

Easy Forms enables you to create the usual forms you’d expect—like contact forms, order forms, registration forms and online surveys. But you can also create specialised forms like multi-page forms and multi-column forms.
Your forms can then be placed anywhere on your webpage and, once they're embedded, you can track views, submissions, geographical data, abandonment rates, and other important performance information. What’s more, Easy Forms offers form analytics to help you learn more about your data, the ability to create reports based on the analytics, and the ability to export data collected by your forms.

The Just Forms Full form builder is a budget-friendly form builder that will help you create all kinds of forms quickly. You can use it to create classic forms, multi-step forms and pop-up forms as well.
It already comes with over 120 fully functional forms that you can start using right away. Other than that, you can use over 100 form templates to quickly create your own forms. Using the form builder does not require you to have any knowledge of PHP or JavaScript.
All the forms and form elements have been tested on multiple operating systems like Windows, iOS and Android. They have also been tested on a lot of browsers going back up to IE9.
The forms are also compatible with Bootstrap 3 if you are using that framework.
Once the form has been successfully submitted, it gives you multiple options to process the information. The simplest things you can do is just send an email. However, you can also tell the form builder to export the data in either a CSV file or as a PDF document. The data can also be copied easily to a MySQL database.
You should definitely check out this plugin if you are looking for a basic form builder to help you get up and running quickly.
3. PHP Form Builder
A powerhouse among form builders, the PHP Form Builder allows you to create just about any type of form you need using simple functions. This form designer and creator also provides options for horizontal, vertical and inline layouts to suit your page design and accepts any HTML5 form elements, including field sets, multiple selects, opt groups, and button groups.

4. Zigaform PHP Form Builder: Contact & Survey
Zigaform: Contact & Survey enables you to build a range of forms for any PHP website in a matter of minutes. The builder uses a handy grid system into which you can drag and drop over 40 form elements to create whatever kind of form meets your need. You can use their Skin Customiser and over 700 icons, 650 fonts, and 80 animation effects to fine-tune every part of your form so that it fits nicely into the webpage on which it’s located.
Once a user has completed a form, they receive an acknowledgement email and you receive a notification email, both of which are completely customisable. All data submitted via the Zigaform is stored in the admin panel, from where it can be exported in CSV or PDF format. The builder also allows you to filter and search submitted data, which can then be used to create graphic charts for trend and other analysis.
Additional features:

Other than these specialised forms, the PHP form generator has the same great features as the Zigaform Contact & Survey Form Builder. You can drag and drop the numerous form elements provided into an organising grid and use the Skin Customiser, numerous icons, fonts, and animation effects to customise your form. The builder also offers the same great notification and data processing as its sister form builder.

option to duplicate forms and fields

and more
User davinci7 says:
“This form is absolutely brilliant! I had previously spent more than $400 having a complex form developed for me (in the end it didn't even work), but I built the same form myself using this software in around 30 minutes. The customer support I received was amazing. I was very reluctant to buy it, but now I can't recommend it enough.”
The Best Free PHP Form Builders
You can also use some free PHP form builders if you don't want to spend the money for a premium script. However, most of these forms will not be as user-friendly as the scripts listed above. For example, you will not get a drag-and-drop interface with most of them.
1. PHP Form Builder
This is a simple open-source PHP form builder class that will help you quickly create forms using PHP and output the required HTML. The script still works, but keep in mind that the source code was last updated 6 years ago so new features are not being added by the author. This script is great if you want to create forms using code, not with a graphical interface.
2. Laravel Form Builder
This is a free and open-source PHP form builder that is based on the Laravel framework in PHP. The UI of the form is styled using Bootstrap 3 framework. Again, this is a script for creating forms using PHP code, not using drag-and-drop.
3. Form
This form builder allows you to quickly create a form using PHP. It also comes with some useful functionality such as remembering old input for per-populating the form fields and displaying error messages. This is an open-source form builder script, so you can get it for free and modify the code as much as you like. But be warned, this script is no longer maintained so it may be out of date.
4. pForm
This one is not a downloadable script. Instead it's a website that lets you create simple forms using drag-and-drop, without any knowledge of PHP. Best of all, it's absolutely free to use!
Tips for Creating PHP Forms
Here are a few tips that might be helpful when you create your own forms:
1. Sanitize User Input
It is very important that you validate and sanitize all input that you receive through a form. Some users might unknowingly provide data in a wrong format while others with a malicious motive might try to do more harm using SQL injections. Even if your form is generated by a PHP form creator script, you still need to sanitize the results before using them in your code!
2. Show Informative Error Messages
Always make sure that you provide users with all the details that they need to fill out the form. If the username can only be between 4 and 10 characters long, you should mention it even before they start filling out and submit the form. If the users do fill out something in improper format, try to tell them exactly what they did wrong. This will create a much more user friendly experience.
Choosing the Right PHP Form Builder for You
From the five PHP form builders covered here, you can see that form builders come in various sizes and functionality. For someone looking for a simple and reliable contact form, the Zigaform: Contact and Survey Form Builder is the right choice. For someone who needs invoicing and e-commerce forms, the Zigaform: PHP Calculator and Cost Estimation Form Builder is a better pick. For someone else who needs a large degree of flexibility in creating a variety of forms, the Easy Forms: Advanced Form Builder and Manager is one of the best choices.
In other words, any of the form builders featured here would be a great choice depending on what you need.
The first step when choosing a form generator script is to be clear about what you want from your form builder. Once you’ve gotten clear, take another look at these form builders to decide which one’s right for you. If none of them are quite what you’re looking for, don’t worry—we’ve got more great PHP form builders at Envato Market, so head over there and check them out.

Why should I study? (part 1)
First of all thank you for reading this blog and the topics I write about. Of course thank you for liking my blog posts - it’s still interesting to see that so many people like the post about Josh Klinghoffer.
But today I want to share with you some information about studying. Since I’m doing it for a long, long, loooong time now (okay just kidding but I think I’m already a long-term student haha) I think I have gained some experiences I want to share with you.
First of all I want to discuss the differences between the German higher education system towards other countries such as US or UK. I don’t know exactly every difference but I think the most known difference is that studying in Germany is much cheaper than in other countries. I know that studying in the US is much more expensive and many people don’t have the opportunity to attend well-reputed colleges or universities. In Germany the devise is that everyone should have the access to education so everyone with an A level should have the opportunity to attend every state university of the country. Of course there is a selection procedure. Mostly your grades are important for getting a university place at a certain university for a certain subject. In Germany you apply for a specific subject and the admission requirements depends on the number of students who apply for this subject. This also depends on how well-reputed the university is and how many study places there are for a certain subject. So students with the best grades will get the place. There is one interesting example: All universities in Berlin have very high numerus clauses for ALL subjects because so many people want to study in Berlin. But a university in a small town can have studies where there isn’t any numerus clauses because there aren’t as many applicants.
Tumblr media
But still the devise is: there are no differences in costs – at least you could think there aren’t. But since the educational policy is regulated federal there can be differences in each federate state – but you usually don’t pay much more than 700€ each semester. In some federate states you only pay 300€, so it depends. But extrapolated to each months of the semester you usually pay 50-116€ per month for studying. Yes that sounds very cheap compared to other countries. Of course, if you’re attending a private school it can be much more expensive. But if I think about the high college tuitions in the US – even for average colleges – it is cheap in Germany. So that’s why many students in Germany start studying after their school graduation just “to find themselves” because they don’t really know what to do for a living. Honestly, I did the same. I started studying because I didn’t know what I wanted to do as a job. I was totally undecided.
The next thing that is different in Germany than in other countries is the fact that in most cases a Bachelors degree isn’t enough for finding a job. The system was revolutionised and adjusted to the international Bachelor/Master system just a couple of years ago so the companies still don’t really appreciate a Bachelors degree. So comparing to the US most of the students in Germany are doing a Masters degree because they have to. In the US most of the students only need a Bachelors degree to find a job. Only people who want to do a PhD or want to go to Professional schools will continue studying after an undergraduate degree. So I think there is still a huge difference. But as you might guess, I can only speak for Germany here.
Tumblr media
But the fact is: students in Germany are way older than students in other countries. When I graduated from school I was 19. Now after a lot of changes in the educational school system I think most of the freshmen are 18, some even 17. Another interesting point is that just a few students graduate after the standard period of study – which is mostly 3 years for a Bachelors degree. I don’t know anyone who did it. I needed 4 years. But before studying History and Political Science in four years I also studied Spanish and had to wait until I could finally change my subject. So I originally needed 5 years for the Bachelor. Now I guess I will have studied 2.5 years in the masters programme instead of 2 years – I really do hope I will make it. Only one semester left after the current semester.
So you see, a lot of differences. In the end you can say that the average age of a Masters graduate in Germany might be 25. Some finish at 23/24, others at 28. Compared to other countries it’s very old.
Tumblr media
   So Why should I study?
First of all – studying is great! But not everyone has the opportunity to study or has to study to get the dream job. So people are studying for different reasons. I list a few potential reasons for studying.
You want to     study to be educated for your dream job
You want to     gain more knockledge about a certain topic
You don’t     know what to do with your life
You don’t     want to start work so quickly
I know that some of these reasons sound a bit weird and crazy especially if you think about the high costs of studying. But it is just my perspective because through the years I met different people who were studying for at least one of these reasons. It’s justified by the cheap costs of studying and the fact that even the “elite” universities aren’t more expensive than the “average” universities in Germany. So many students are starting their studies just to find out what they want.
But if you decide to study, you should definitely be interested in the subject you study. Over the years I met some people who just started studying a subject they don’t really like but I think if you’re not really into it you won’t make it to the Bachelors degree.
So this leads me to the next question….
 What should I study?
There are specific studies that are necessary for specific jobs. If you want to become a doctor you have to study medicine, if you want to be a lawyer, you should study law. But there are many other professions where there isn’t a specific subject you have to study. Especially in the field of humanities and social sciences. Since I studied History and Political Science and graudated with a Bachelors Degree and now I’m doing my Masters Degree in History I know the struggles of people who are studying a subject that belongs to these fields. So I didn’t study a subject that would guarantee a safe job. I want to work in the media, journalisms, PR etc. But I can also imagine working for a NGO, museum or foundation. So I think that I gained some qualifications and skills over the years that qualify me to work in this field.
Tumblr media
But it is also important to be interested in the subject you study. Because you have to deal with it for at least three years which is a very long time, right?
During my Bachelor I had classes that I didn’t finish and just attended because they were interesting. Many professors like it when students attend seminars they don’t have to attend because they’re interested in the topic. But I think it’s mostly possible in humanities or social studies. I never heard that any engineer took a class just because of interest. You have to differ the specific studies. Science is much more organized than humanities. That’s what I like about my subjects. I could always choose classes out of so many different topics. Of course I had to take classes for different modules but I had a lot of options which topics I want to choose. But studying humanities isn’t always fun. Especially when it comes to the question what you can do with your degree afterwards…
“And what do you want to do after graduation?”
I don’t know if you’ve ever heard this question according to your study but I guess nearly every student have heard this question before. I was asked this question many, many, many times. And many people thought I would become the next Angela Merkel because I studied Political Science. But I had to disappoint them. No, not every Politics student will become a politician – although many politicians studied Politics. But you will be asked this question several times during your studies. No matter if at family fests, at Christmas, eastern, birthday parties….wherever. There was a time when I was so annoyed by being asked this question because I was so uncertain about my future. I didn’t do an internship and was totally disillusioned. But now that I have some work experience I can say what I want to do. If I will do it, is still uncertain. But at least I have an answer if my aunt or mother are asking this bothering question again. Especially if you’re the only student in your family it isn’t easy to convince your family members that you’re not only partying and being lazy all day long, but you’re working hard to graduate some day. I don’t know if I’m right but sometimes I have the feeling that the reputation of studying in the US is much higher than in Germany. Since nearly everyone with the qualification has the opportunity to study here there are many prejudices towards students. I have the feeling that parents in the US or UK are more proud of their children for graduating from college than parents in Germany. Many people here think “well, okay he’s studying for too long” or so. That’s because of the fact that if you want you can study for twenty years. I just read an article of a guy who started studying at the age of 20 and graduated at 48. And no, he didn’t find a proper job in between time. He only did student jobs. I think the system in the UK or US is better organized and more like a school. Here in Germany you can get lost in the system because you’re totally on your own. Especially in humanities. You can choose seminars out of a long list of seminars for a specific module. No one cares if you do it. No one asks you. You have to manage and organize yourself. This leads me to the next topic….
Tumblr media
  Studying is all about Self-organization
Yes! I think most of the time I spent at university in the last years I spent with questioning which classes I have to take, which modules I have to take, when I can start with Module C or D and question if I have to finish module A first. It’s all about bureaucracy here in Germany. I hate it. I needed two semesters to finally change my subject (I officially studied Spanish for 4 semesters but I never did an exam haha). In the last months of my bachelor study I had to ask the professors for my grades in specific modules because I needed them for the application for a Masters programme. I went to their office hours every fucking week. For two months. Until I finally got my grades. Because another thing you need to know about universities in Germany: at some universities not everything is organized online. Sometimes you still have to get a paper with a grade signed by your professor and if you don’t have it, it won’t be counted to your “transcript of records”. Oh and last but not least: Germany bureaucracy hit me real hard when my bachelors thesis was graded too late so I couldn’t apply for the Masters programme and had to wait one semester. Do you want to know why the note was registered too late at the examination office? Because the lady whose task it was to register the notes of the graded bachelor thesis’ had a day off at the last day of the application deadline. So my professor had already sent the note to the examination office but the concerned advisor had a day off. This took me 6 Fucking months of my life.
But I will tell you later why this had also positive affects…
In the seconds part I will list a few more reasons for studying!

The year is wrapping up and what a year its been! Definitely full of hills and valleys... last December I had a horrible fight with my parents, and I was second-guessing my worth and feeling like shit. And that lead me to view people who I initially didn’t think were for me, as for me. January I tried lighting that up, it crashed and burned, and I was getting stupid drunk and yelling in someone’s house about how Someone didn’t love me, and why didn’t they love me, and is this my last chance, ah-ah-ah. February and March were a blur. I wanted to move to New York, to ultimately leave everything behind and forget, but alas - Chaos stepped in and was like “Not today,” and the person I was supposed to live with ended up having a knock down, drag out breakup with his partner, getting fired from his job, and downsizing quite a bit. I applied to 50 jobs but not living there makes it exponentially harder to get an interview in a state already known for it’s competitiveness, even for average salaries. I clocked the resistance. Okay, so no New York. The person I lived with finally hit rock bottom enough to almost overdose and die, admitted he was a drug addict and began seeking treatment. Not only definitely not a good time to move there, but also not a good time to visit. There goes $700 non-refundable dollars as I opted not to go visit during Spring Break. Meanwhile, my Mom was helping my ailing grandma out of state, my dad was trying to hold down the house while she was gone. We were all split up all over the West and I hadn’t seen them since December, and because I had a second job I couldn’t just go when I had work breaks. I wasn’t able to see them until OCTOBER. That’s wild when you’re an only child and close with your parents. I basically had to re-enroll to University and take classes to up my GPA, to get the certification, and seriously... I love my SPED kids like they were my own, but the people and the process. Was it worth it? Is it worth this seemingly uphill battle? Having to dig myself further into debt with school loans and then some because I needed more classes than I originally planned for to raise my GPA, and then taking the certification tests on top of it...  this is looking a lot like New York, but I persisted, and I did all of it working a second job. (By the way, this was a cakewalk. It was an annoying cakewalk, but in comparison to people I know, a cakewalk nonetheless. I could have never worked a second job trying to graduate with my actual degree like a lot of people I know did. I think about that a lot when I’m whining. Like I knew this girl who worked three jobs, got a double degree, and graduated with no debt, with some crazy high GPA. Not all heroes wear capes.) So I began cutting away the fat: I dropped contact with the “Someone,” and did so as gracefully as possible. I wished them the best, and you know... they didn’t fight it. Okay, so that’s done. Time to pick up my bruised ego and my heaving lungs and keep moving. I left the uppity Rich Kid School in June and moved to a more diverse one in the city. It was elementary, it was closer to my house, it was supposed to be easier. My personal life was kind of going numb, but I was making lots of money. I got paid out by the school, I was working the second job, and I was babysitting one of my former students weekly. July I took a trip with some friends, it bombed. Nixed that off my list, nixed my therapist I didn’t like off my list, nixed the school that wasn’t working, and eventually in October I nixed the Elementary school and SPED all together because I’d had enough. However, it’s like when I nixed something that was definitely not working, I was given better things as a replacement. The elementary was CRAZY TOWN, and that’s not an exaggeration, but I finally got to work with someone who fucking cared like a SPED teacher should care and who could manage, and communicate, and be innovative, and TEACH. I wasn’t working in an environment that used its resources to circle-jerk the football coaches and their professional needs anymore - NICE. I met genuine, caring people and made friends with people who were open minded like me. Once again, though, that second job started grating on my nerves at this point because I was so stressed out at the elementary. I nixed it. I nixed the elementary, and now I leveled up even more making a salaried position, working around adults, and yes - I have a work crush. He’s smart and funny, and I think he likes me too. We’ll see.  My point is this year was all about identifying ALL. THE. WAYS. I betrayed myself and my values, and when I quit doing that - I GOT REWARDED. I’m currently chilling after cutting out people I outgrew. I’m not angry anymore about it, I wonder how I could’ve handled it better, but I’m looking forward to the day where I don’t have to keep making adjustments. Where I’ve found my spot to stay, my end point, and I feel like 2020 will be a great year for that.
