Hi, I played the entirety of Viatica a few hours ago, I enjoyed it, but I have one small gripe with the ending. It feels like it wasn't really earned, like no matter which choices I could've picked, I didn't work for it. It's entirely linear, like no one could've died during the rebellion ending.
Hello, thanks for giving my story a try. šŸ˜Š
Thatā€™s completely valid and I hear you. Thereā€™s 2 big reasons for that. One, I donā€™t like reading bad endings, and I REALLY donā€™t like writing them. šŸ˜… I donā€™t like major character death (as in MCs and ROs). I understand many people want that in their stories, and while I can appreciate a well-written tragic scene, I donā€™t enjoy writing one myself. Chapter 10 nearly wrecked me, lol. So that choice was self indulgent on my part.
And two, and this is a big one and kind of plays into my first reason, Viatica was a labor of love. Iā€™ve mentioned before but itā€™s adapted from a novella I wrote 25 years ago. Yes, it was linear because of this. The original was never published, but not for lack of trying. And itā€™s always been a bit of disappoint in the back of my mind. So this was me finally publishing the story I always wanted to write. The fact that I get to share it with you all, and have the response that it has had, has been the cherry on top. Believe me, I appreciate it soo much! ā¤ļø But ultimately, I had a desperate need to see this story published this way.
I do plan to explore more drama and (shudder) angst in the new IF. Not all the ROs will get along, there may even be some betrayals, and MC doesnā€™t have to always be the good guy. Iā€™m not sure if Iā€™ll go full on bad ending, but weā€™ll see!

so what's your overall thoughts on the movie??
General: sa2 still clears and specifically I think the sa2 lore for the ARK trio (Shadow Maria and Gerald) is a lot better, but this was pretty good (sometimes even great) for a movieverse (loose) adaptation of sa2. I did not like Gerald though, I think his crusty ass should have been left in the 70s
Specific thoughts under the cut (spoilers obviously)
My main criticisms rn is that it basically just feels like a watered down version of sa2, from most of the main story beats to the lore to the characters etc. Obviously I was not expecting them to have the same amount of depth that the games managed to give to Shadow's story from both the extra content that comes along with the games (like the manual that confirmed Maria's illness) but I feel like cutting out stuff like Maria's illness and her wish just left the story feeling neutered in some very important ways. The other big thing I didn't like was Gerald in general. Like yeah he was kinda funny the first two acts, but then he keeps the goofy schtick up while Sonic and Shadow are trauma bonding and kicking ass in space and idk. If they wanted to show him as a more evil version of Eggman maybe have him just actually be more evil for the final act. Ideally he should have behaved more menacing after dropping the "You're no Maria" line. Also the pacing was fast as hell, and apparently the film cut relatively important stuff like explanations for how Gerald was alive at 110 years old (he was licking that Shadow quill apparently) and also led to stuff like Shadow's entire arc being kinda rushed.
Aside from those though... I kind of loved it???? Big surprise coming from me I know, and I do wonder if it's just recency bias, but I think this is easily and by far the best project the films have put out. If you've seen both trailers for this film you can predict how 95% of the plot is going to go along with the character arcs, but they're still decently effective (for everyone except Gerald). The goofiness does get to be a bit much sometimes and my god I wish they would just let movie Sonic be quiet for once in a while, but towards the later half it starts getting really good. The parallels between Sonic and Shadow are well-made and impactful. Super Sonic and Super Shadow are hype. The action is fucking fantastic (if you go to these films just for spectacle you ABSOLUTELY want to see this one). And the found family stuff is the best it's ever been. If you like Wachowski sibling content, and specifically Wachowski sibling angst, you will be feasting. Tails and Knuckles fans, GO TO THIS MOVIE. I won't say why but you'll fucking love it
Depending on my mood, it's a 6/10-8/10 from me
Random thoughts
The non-game human characters are the best balanced that they've ever been
The game human characters are not well balanced at all lmao
Even if movie 4 will inevitably be less hype than movie 3, I can honestly see it maybe being the best so far which is 100% my own bias
Amy's design is cute as hell and Metal's design is awesome as hell
I'm kinda glad Jim Carrey is (presumably) gone ngl
I hope they keep the energy Sonic had in the third act and mid-credits for the rest of the franchise, even if it will obviously be less intense than when he was literally trying to kill someone
I am going to make so many fanfics where movie Sonic suffers bc I adore him so much (/negative) (/positive)
I think it would be best if the next movie was just Sonic, Amy, and Metal. I love the sibs but this being in live action, if the cast keeps getting inflated every individual member is just going to have so much less time. Maybe Sonic and Amy get kidnapped to Little Planet or something
I want them to keep her crush on Sonic but also her spunky and somewhat violent and irrational attitude. If they kept Knuckles gullibility they should also keep her flaws
Shadow and Maria's story may be infinitely more compelling in the games but them in the movies is just more entertaining idk what to tell you
They gotta give Maddie something to do. She is literally just Tom's +1 at the moment please god give her something to do
I do not feel bad about the GUN commander guy at ALLLLLLLL lmao i think he shoulda died choking on his own blood. bitchass
you still don't need to watch the knuckles show

I saw Sonic movie 3.
And it was a really solid movie, in fact, surprisingly strong in terms of theme and character writing in particular even if I already expected an improvement.
But I think the blunt nature of the movie was my favourite aspect of it.
It had the brisk pacing and concise writing of the best Dragon Ball movies.
I saw some reviews say the second act was slower than they would've liked, but I never felt any kind of slowdown myself.
There was some stilted exposition here and there, but because the movie was so propulsive, none of it ever overtook the story to the point where it started affecting its overall quality, same for the pop culture references or human characters (helps that the roles the humans got were relevant to the story at hand).
Some of the references were actually funny because of the more snappy execution ā€“ among other elements the comedic timing for jokes improved considerably here (though I personally still could do without most of the referencing).
They did exactly what I think they needed to do, which is to tighten the pacing and focus on the strongest aspect of their writing: the forementioned themes and characterisation.
Team Sonic was great, the Robotniks were great and Shadow was great.
Though by the end, there was a mild nagging wish for just a little bit more of everything on my part.
All of the above elements were great, but because there were so many characters to focus on in a relatively short span of time, the exact opposite issue for pacing in comparison to the previous movies popped up in that I think the movie needed just a little bit more runtime to let some scenes sit a little more.
Because it was so larger-than-life, I also had no issues with the back and forth between comedic and serious scenes like I saw some reviewers say they had, as well, not just because it is a movie about an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog, but also because the movie did a great job of setting the tone to make the more ridiculous elements work.
The best I had to say about Sonic 2 is that it was a live action cartoon and Sonic 3 fully embraces this element of itself.
So, the movie is as fantastic of a Sonic Adventure 2 adaption you could get given the time limitation of a movie, but just short of truly amazing because of it, as well.
What truly surprises me is that I think I can recommend this as a generally good movie, not just a good movie for Sonic fans.
I brought this up with the other two, but these movies feel like classic 90s kids' movies and this movie is that ten fold.
Definitely, absolutely go see it if you're a Sonic fan, though.
SPOILERS FROM HERE.
They totally killed both of the Robotniks because they don't know if they can get Jim Carrey back, and if they are able to get him back, they'll absolutely bring him back.
He was at his peak performance here in my eyes, but more than that I love how he ended up also having a character arc that tied to the themes of the story along with Sonic and Shadow.
Putting everything else aside, I think the part of the movie which earned that 88% Rotten Tomatoes rating with the critics is the strong thematic throughline augmented by the extremely economically told character stories.
Gerald Robotnik's existence allowed to explore Ivo Robotnik and his lack of any familial connection similarly to Shadow's and Sonic's familial losses.
Robotnik's farewell and acknowledgement of Stone at the end of movie not only paid off his arc in the movie (the realisation that he did not share his grandfather's hatred for humanity), but also all of the screentime Stone and Eggman had in the other two movies.
While Sonic's similarity to Shadow was highlighted when Shadow attacked and seriously injured Tom (even without willingly wanting to do so) and Sonic temporarily went down a similarly vengeful, solitary path.
Unlike Shadow, however, he ultimately chose the different, better path, by sparing him.
And both of them understood each other by the end because of their shared experience of loss.
I think how Shadow and Knuckles were handled actually was the best example of this movie's extremely tight script.
Shadow actually didn't talk that much, with a very large chunk of his story actually being "shown" via flashbacks characterising Maria, but when he did, it always felt like it had gravitas.
And to me the absolute best of this was the scene at the tail end of the movie where you actually see Maria die; the cinematography transitioning to present Shadow powering the Eclipse Cannon said everything it needed to say just via the visuals and nothing else. It was a fantastic example of "show, don't tell".
Because it is all so firmly consistent, when it all comes together in the final 20 to 30 minutes, everything feels natural and earned.
Everything connects and makes sense on a character level, even if the plot itself uses a bunch of coincidence/contrivance to streamline the order of events and, in turn, all of the side characters tie into this three-way web.
I mentioned Stone, Tom (earlier in the movie, Tom also has a thematically good, if more stilted heart to heart with Sonic) and Maria (who I also like because she's just a fairly normal kid in this interpretation of the story), but I actually really want to highlight Tails and Knuckles, as well.
Moreso Knuckles because I like how the argument throughout the movie about the team name evolves from Team Sonic or Team Knuckles to just "team" by the end and I really like how Knuckles responds to (and opposes) Sonic recklessly asking to use the Master Emerald, which ties into the themes of the second movie. It's a surprising bit of refreshing nuance.
I think Tails is the most standard out of all three, serving as a mediator and the brains of the operation, mostly staying the same from the previous movie, with perhaps simply less prominent admiration for Sonic.
Everything, from sometimes to the smallest of lines or visuals to the most impactful ones is tied to the theme of family and familial loss.
Eventhough they have such comparatively small roles in the movie, even Tom and Maddie wanting to join the insanity is a great payoff when thinking about where their characters started.
This story has a theme that is extremely old, but you can't argue with rock solid thematic/character substance (and so can't the critics it seems).
Do I myself think as highly of the movie as the current Rotten Tomatoes score?
Not really, I think I see it more in the ballpark of a firm 7-8/10, but it certainly is fantastic for what it is trying to be.
Thinking a little bit about the future, though, I'm really curious about what they'll do with Metal Sonic and Amy because I think CD and Heroes are to this day my personal "flawed favourites" of the series.
CD was my favourite Sonic game when I was younger because I loved the aesthetics of it, from the intro to the zones to music and Metal Sonic might be my favourite rival character for Sonic because of how the game presents its set pieces.
Unfortunately, I think it just doesn't hold up in terms of level design, in the same way how I think Heroes has awesome level design, but does not hold up because of the control issues and glitches.
So if there's one Sonic movie made "for me", it'll be this 4th one.
I certainly have much higher expectations for it with the context of this one, at least.

Hello! I am a film major currently and working on a couple screenplays, I was wondering if you would be okay with me writing a screenplay for Sweater Weather I would change the obvious names such as James, Remus and Sirius and I would credit your fan fiction! I also would have to change a couple things so itā€™s fit for screen but if itā€™s okay with you I would love to write a couple screenplays for tv. Not promising it will go anywhere but I feel weird writing it all without your permission! I would send you the scripts and if you had any issues with it at all I could fix it! I also wonā€™t write it if you arenā€™t okay with it! I just fell in love with your story and would love to adapt it for television!
I can also send you screenplays I have previously written so you can judge my skill level. Again feel free to reject me at all! I would obviously change anything copyright as well to avoid any legal issues but if not for screen I would at least love to use it for school!
Thank you dearly,
Nora
Hi there! This is a really flattering question to receive wow!! I do have my own plans for my work, though, so please donā€™t use my words, plot or characters. Of course, I really love it when people write fan fiction using my characters in the Tumblr/Ao3 world, but what youā€™re saying is using it as a commercial ideaā€”which I am already working on myself :)
Thank you so much for asking me! Good luck with all of your work! <3 <3

First of all, I just wanted to say how much I love your Arcane fics. Iā€™ve been following FnF since I stumbled across it at 10 chapters long, and itā€™s been a wild ride since! Like a lot of people Iā€™ve been all over the place with my feelings regarding season 2, but as far as Iā€™m concerned FnF is my season 2 (and 3, 4, etc.) lol. Youā€™re a gift to this fandom. Thank you for sharing your brilliant mind and imagination with us readers ā¤ļø
Youā€™ve answered some what-if asks and shared other Arcane thoughts on this blog before, so I have two questions for your consideration, but no pressure to answer either of them!
1. As a fellow writer, Iā€™m in awe of the scale of FnF and the amount of planning/outlining that must be involvedā€”HOLY SHIT! Are there any elements of s2 that have inspired you as you continue to write FnF? Have you considered adapting any s2 elements into later chapters (beyond what youā€™ve already predicted), or have you held fast to a specific Vision throughout the duration of this writing project?
2. Not sure if youā€™ve been asked this in the past, but what the hell would a living Silcoā€™s reaction be to Vanderā€™s hellish resuscitation as Warwick, assuming he isnā€™t immediately mauled in a confrontation?? Is Singed (assuming heā€™s the culprit) definitely fired??? This feels like such a MESSY terrible horrible no-good very bad situation for everyone involved lmao, and I would love to know your thoughts.
Aaaaah thank you so much! I'm super happy you're enjoying the story! I've been having a lot of fun with it, and I'm glad so many other folks are having fun with it as well <333
Also deeply honored you'd consider FnF in any way adjacent to canon material; that means so much T_T Especially since my own feelings on s2 are pretty mixed, and I'm not really sure what I would even do with those ideas, except maybe throw them out as a one-shot sometime down the road.
1. In terms of the s2 inspiration, I will say I was not the biggest fan of the plot's coherence/cohesion as a whole (too much stuff going on in too little time, too many threads left dangling etc). However, I was very gratified by the thematic journeys of the characters in S2, as in FnF they're actually following a similar trajectory (except for Silco who is, well, dead), and a lot of the same conflicts and themes are coming up. There was a happy sense of vindication that came from that, like, "Oh, so this was actually important, and not just me making a fanficcy mountain out of a molehill."
I will say though, that FnF has its own pretty airtight-ish plot, with many aspects already sketched out in advance, so I'm not going to go re-plotting things to match s2's direction unless and until it becomes necessary. In some ways, tbh, there's a sense of gleeful overlap, as a lot of the plot beats do mirror one another. (The Black Rose make an appearance by Act VII, there's a greater emphasis on magic and high fantasy going forward, Jinx is in the grip of an identity/existential crisis and Vi is stuck at a crossroads, Jayce has become disillusioned and split with Mel, Viktor has retreated underground and will be withdrawing deeper into his work, Ekko will be the one to snap Jinx out of a critical juncture and save Zaun in the long term, Sevika will take a greater leadership role etc...) All of the parallels if not the outright similarities were pretty satisfying.
As for how that's manifesting, a lot of the major developments and character arcs going forward are largely set in stone, but I do have a few key S2 events/details I've been mulling over in the background that I can see myself weaving into the plot at some point. But the rest is probably best kept as a surprise :>
2. As for the hellish resuscitation, well, I'd be lying if I said I haven't been thinking about that one a lot hehehe...
But long story short:
Singed is 100% fired because there is NO WAY Silco would sanction such a thing - and if it occured in the FnF universe, then Singed was absolutely doing it behind Silco's back and will now face the full consequences.
Ā As for Warwick himself - he'd 100% retreat to Silco and Vander's little Brokeback bunk in the mines. And Silco would 100% don his old mining duds and dustry greatcoat and go looking for him, because he needs to be SURE it's not just a rumor, and also because he does, subconsciously, desperately want it to be his Vander. And Vander, who has a good measure of the old Vander's memories, and is 100% aware it's not a rumor, because hello: deranged wolfman, will 100% run towards Silco with every intention of tearing him to pieces.
And that is where the similarities end.
Because Vander is too deeply trapped within Warwick's killer shell, and is therefore incapable of having an emotional reunion with anyone, and because Silco is not an idiot and would never go into a skirmish without a loaded gun and an escape route, the end result would be bloody, messy and tragic.
Worst case scenario: both men would kill each other, and in their final death throes, find boyhood memories resurfacing. They'd die in tears, messily and bloodily entwined, but finally at peace with their own demons - which is how Jinx and Vi, teaming up similar to S2, would find them.
Best case scenario: Silco would find Warwick and be forced to try and capture and contain him. He'd enlist Sevika's help and succeed, but when Jinx finds out, she'd be appalled and retraumatized, and convinced Silco is trying to erase her dead dad and supplant him in every sense. She'd go off the rails and have a complete breakdown, and Vi would be the one she'd run to, because Vi is the only person who understands and cares. The sisters would end up teaming against Silco to try and bust WarVander out, and this would cause an irreparable rift between Silco and Jinx.
Cue mass destruction and an epic family feud.
Sevika, who'd be the only person left in Silco's circle of trust, would have to make the call to have Warwick quietly killed in order to save the city from a war, and then lie to Silco, telling him Vander succumbed to his own madness and perished. This would cause Silco's mental state to completely disintegrate. He'd lose what little sanity he had left, and would descend into a pit of guilt and grief.
Ā Either way, it's a pretty awful tragedy on both sides, and it would take the entire remaining plot of FnF to resolve the fallout, and for Jinx and Vi to find any kind of peace.
So you can see why I've been mulling a lot, but also left it alone haha.
But who knows?
Maybe the story will change my mind, or I'll be struck by some miraculous idea and figure a way out, though I'm doubtful.
Thanks again for the lovely words and thoughtful questions! They really mean a lot <3

hiii if you can, could you expand on your hate for Greta Gerwig's work? I've only seen a few of her movies, so I don't have much of an opinion haha
it is occurring to me now I think Iā€™ve only seen one film of hers haha but I felt VERY strongly about that one, and I feel like Iā€™ve read enough about her Little Women that I can justly hate it, too
I talked at length about my issues with Barbie here with some addendums here and also here
and Little Women I have a few beefs with!
first of all, why get so many English actors to play Americans when their American accents, by and large, suck
I find Gerwigā€™s choice to import biographical information about Alcottā€™s writing of the book into the story itself obnoxious. if youā€™re gonna adapt a BELOVED CLASSIC, I think you have to accept that people love the book, even if the author played around with the book being something else! if you found letters saying Austen had thought about marrying Lizzie off to Col. Fitzwilliam would you make a film that leaves it ambiguous which man she gets together with? of course not! because it would be a terrible adaptation and a terrible film since the book is obviously a finished whole the themes of which were tending in a specific direction. I think Gerwig does Alcott a serious disservice in thinking that she didnā€™t do her absolute darndest to give her book a satisfying ending. and I think she insults a lot of Little Women fans, as well! the only reason she lets Alcottā€™s personal life color the plot of the film is because it happens to align with Gerwigā€™s own values. so if you didnā€™t like the values that are actually in the book, donā€™t adapt the book!!!!
I think she plays with gender in her film in a way thatā€™s anachronistic. Jo is a tomboy in the book, but in a way I just canā€™t easily explain, the flavor of an 1800s tomboy not fitting into the mould of a typical lady is very different from a 2010s feminist rebelling against the expectations of society for women.
the book states very clearly that Meg and Amy have a closer relationship, and Jo and Beth have a closer relationship. so Gerwig deciding she wanted to put the primary focus on Jo and Amyā€™s relationship is very annoying to me, and feels like disrespect to Beth. Amy outshining Beth feels like it sums up a lot about Gerwig and where she sees value

We talk about portrayals of Sisi, but I think that Franz Joseph was, if anything, even more misrepresented by the recent period dramas. How would you rank the portrayals of him you have seen/read (in historical novels)? Is there any piece of historical fiction that actually captures his character accurately?
Hello! YES I always focus on Elisabeth but he is also completely butchered in all these new series. I think I've said it before, but basically it's very hard to reconcile who FJ actually was (both as an emperor and as a person) with him being a love interest we as an audience can root for. Specially in these new adaptations in which Elisabeth is outspoken, mature and actively politically involved in the events of the empire (and not just the Compromise). Why would our Girl Boss protagonist want to be with a man who was bureaucracy made flesh, very conservative, and just kinda boring in general? It doesn't work. Thus, his personality also gets rewritten.
I don't really have a decided ranking, but off the top of my head I'd say these are my least to most favorite portrayals:
Sisi & Ich (2023): Do you hate Sisi adaptations that turn FJ into a horrible, abusive husband in order to make his wife look good? Well, this portrayal does just that. He is only very briefly in the movie but I hated every minute of it, personally I was mostly fine with the movie despite all its inaccuracies but there was one scene from this part that was a deal breaker for me. This movie should've been just two hours of Irma and Elisabeth traveling and nothing else.
Die Kaiserin (2022-): The solution of the screenwriters to the problem of "how do we make FJ likeable?" Basically turning him into his brother Maximilian lol. You see, he has liberal ideas but his evil mother doesn't let him pursue them! Oh, and he had nothing to do with those executions, that was also his mother! In fact everything bad he ever did was all his mother's fault, because he is not even governing, his mother is. By season 2 it almost seems that FJ has absolutely no idea what's going on in his own empire and needs to be explained basic thing like Italian nationalism. This series sanitizes FJ in levels that just aren't seen in any other adaptation, not even the Sissi Trilogy. You are watching the show and can't help but think "who is this guy???". The only thing he has in common with the real FJ is that he loves his wife, but the way their relationship is portrayed is so unlike the real couple that not even that makes him similar to his historical counterpart.
Sisi (2021-2024). This FJ is in the opposite end of the same spectrum as Die Kaiserin's FJ. Season 1 had the original take of not making FJ likeable, but instead they turned him in a borderline cartoonishly evil, violent and smug man. He smiles as he orders executions, he beats his aids for not reason, he openly cheats on his wife and publicly insults her in a fit of jealousy. Honestly I was baffled by this take, because even after all these bizarre changes they still went for a "Sisi and Franz's great love story!" approach for the series. Which was. A choice. They obviously wanted to make him like that so that he could go through a redemption arc thanks to his relationship with Sisi, but it was just not a well written arc, and when his personality does change in later seasons it doesn't feel like earned character grow but simply that the writers decided to tone down their original approach.
Yet I will admit I'm lowkey fond of this portrayal, I liked most of his storyline in season 2 (he spends most of the season bonding with a feral child and also definitely has a thing going on with AndrƔssy you can't convince me otherwise), and in season 3 I found myself agreeing with him. So yeah, utterly butchered FJ but in an entertaining way at least.
Sissi Trilogy: I'm honestly overall indifferent to this FJ; he is basically the blueprint for every posterior depiction that portrays him as a Prince Charming love interest. Yet, for all the overomantization of Elisabeth's early life, the movies don't shy away from telling us how FJ was directly responsible of the counter revolution executions. We even see how he is still hated in Hungary and Italy (at least until Sissi comes into the scene). A certain show from a certain straming service could learn that it's not necessary to completely sanitize his image and pin all his faults onto his mother to make Franz Josef into a palatable love interest.
Sisi (2009). I feel about this FJ almost the same as I feel about the Sissi Trilogy's FJ, but in this portrayal we do see more of him than just "Sisi's love interest". Also it's not always all the color of roses, he and Elisabeth disagree and fight more than once. His relationship with his brother Max is also really interesting, pity they only interact in like three scenes. Overall a solid take, if a bit romanticized and not particularly remarkable.
Kronprinz Rudolf (2006). Not a bad take but for what I remember they portrayed Taaffe as having this great influence over FJ and putting him against Rudolf. And like no the evil minister was not responsible for FJ distrusting his son He Was Like That.
Elisabeth das Musical: the only depiction on this list that I truly like, and it really proves that the only way to have a good FJ is to not make him into a love interest. He is only a supporting character and yet the musical nails the most important bits of his personality and his relationship with Elisabeth outstandingly well (loved his wife but never understood her, cheated yet still longed for her, let her go but always hoped she would comeback next to him). There's even room to also show his relationship with Rudolfl! The only thing that I don't really like is that they do portray his mother as having a lot of influence over him, but that's mostly because the musical has an outdated take on Sophie (which works pretty well in a storytelling level nonetheless!). Boote in der Nacht is the saddest song in the entire musical, and the musical is not even about FJ and Elisabeth as a couple. Just a great, nuanced and engaging take!
I know I'm missing a lot FJs but these are the ones that came to my mind right now; I don't think I've ever seen Franz Josef in a piece of media that isn't about Elisabeth or Rudolf. Thank you for your question!

Absolutely the funniest thing about my current corner of tumblr is that pretty much everyone I've recently followed for Apollo-Appreciating Purposes are either genuinely Hellenist or just rather very into Rick Riordan's Trials of Apollo series which is wild because I know a net zero about both of those things.
#I've never been interested in Riordan's work and the Percy Jackson books I did read as a young lad didn't change my mind on that topic#Growing up I preferred a very one or the other method for my greek adaptational content#which essentially means either you're a play or an adaptation of a legit story or myth with recogniseable figures and plotpoints#or you're an original story with mythical elements but the myths and the adaptations and interpretations of those myths is secondary#Percy Jackson did both and it was very disorienting for me because the books were well grounded enough that when I came into contact#with some element I didn't recognise or couldn't remember I myself would get confused and go ā€œIs that true? like really?? :0cā€#Then I ran a library book club and Percy Jackson books were p much all the kids wanted to read#but they rejected all of my supplementary greek myth exercises and got a lot of stuff mixed around#because percy jackson does a rather good job of making a convincing argument that it knows its stuff and people will quicker cite that#than do readings of the much more difficult older texts and translations of text#It's not Percy Jackson's fault it's just a bad experience that stuck with me and by extension leaked over into Trials of Apollo when that#was released#Trials of Apollo was crazy because I generally make it my business to consume any and all greek myth interpretational media that bothers#to include Apollo (there is a shockingly low amount of things that do that)#however a LOT of novels especially never let Apollo retain the dignity of a god in their portrayals of him#and have him resemble a teenager more than anything even remotely close to an adult#I had just gotten finished reading a novel adaptation of the story of Coronis and Apollo with this same issue#so when I opened the first volume of ToA and saw that Apollo simply genuinely WAS a teenager#Frankly I just closed the book and put it back on the bookstore shelf and very calmly walked away LMFAO#I have nothing to say about Hellenists and neo hellenists y'all seem like wonderful people and I hope#you have a lovely time with your e-offerings and worship#unless you are my single personal friend with Apollo as your patron#then I wish you 1000 woes and 10000 divine brain blasts#toa#pjo#ginger rambles

hii, i am so curious about what you thought of tdp s7
Hi! I haven't engaged with tdp material since S4 on purpose, since I've learned I don't do well being a creator in fandoms whose canon is so actively updating. I'll binge all of tdp and catch up on everything eventually, but it might be a while, and I'd like to ask for strictly no spoilers for anything since S4 until then! I'm great at avoiding spoilers on my own but if people send them to me I can't really avoid that :P
(thank you for being so spoiler free in your ask btw, appreciate it!)

Whatā€™s wrong babe? Youā€™re thinking about Glindaā€™s face before she is handed the torch to light the funeral effigy of her friend? Her best friend who was fundamental to the woman she has become? The woman that she abandoned at the most pivotal moment of their lives in an act of cowardice that she has spent the rest of her life running from? Her best friend that, through her own lack of action when it counted most, is widely believed to have deserved her murder?

Hghrhrhh i love you stories that prioritize the mundane over the supernatural, I love you stories that explore how hard it can be to do relatively 'simple' things, I love you stories that focus on the small steps and celebrates each one taken, I love you stories that emphasize the worth in the little things, i love you stories that treat its characters kindly, i love you stories that tell you how each of us are different and weird and good in our own little ways, yet the same in others so we don't have to feel alone, i love you stories that don't take themselves too seriously and instead fill themselves with silliness and fun and creativity, i love you stories that make you fall in love with humanity, I LOVE YOU MOB PSYCHO ..!!! 100.

So, @silv-paru sent Sherlock Holmes for the character opinion bingo. thanks a bunch for this (and for your patience. my god, iā€™m answering this a week late. typical me behaviour). youā€™re a darling :D
Tumblr media
Did you know, i used to tell these stories to my friends? they delighted in them AND i got a chance to sort of ramble on and on abt him and watson. it was a win-win, really. ah, those were the days! now i havenā€™t reblogged much of him this month at all. i miss him. I MISS HIM.
Onto the bingo: well. heā€™s The quintessence of genderā„¢ to me. and i relate to him so so much. fav character of all time fr. i want to carry him in my pocket at all times & study him. like. do i want to BE him OR am i IN LOVE with him, ykwim? pssh who knows? certainly not me. uh-huh ā€˜a beast unleashedā€™ -does this refer to me or him? you choose. oh re: canon, iā€™m ignoring the part where holmes dies (or yā€™know, is dead for 3 years). thatā€™s too angsty.
#sherlock holmes#my dearest blorbo#heā€™s my belovedest chewtoy basically#if i think abt how modern adaptations *looking at you bbc sherlock* have ruined his character i get so angry i have to take deep breaths#*mutters darkly* he is NOT an arrogant cold-hearted bitch like heā€™s portrayed; well he IS a bitch but not a cold-hearted one!!#see. the thing abt holmes is that heā€™s SUCH a sweet boy okay. and heā€™s compassionate#he cares sooo much. thatā€™s the reason people come to him when theyā€™re distressed. they trust him#he hates the police. he is a jester at heart. loves his watson#heā€™s here to help the truly desparate helpless people even if they have no money to pay him for the case. no questions asked. But-#he fucking despises obnoxious rich men. the first time he meets watson a total stranger he *very excitedly* tells him abt his experiment#itā€™s very adorable. he never stops trying to impress ever. infact blushes furiously when complimented by him#my guy has 0 knowledge of our solar system but heā€™s written several monographs abt different types of ASHES. go figure!#OH i almost forgot the most important fact heā€™s special to me bc holmes is an audhd gay disaster bastard. sometimes heā€™s even bisexual#but mostly heā€™s acespec and in a qpr w watson. heā€™s VERY adhd. behaves like an excited cat and oh so cute when he stims. everytime he does#i go SQUEEE. when heā€™s depressed itā€™s a goddamn hashtag big mood. as in many other ways he is me i am him#heā€™s PASSIONATE and KIND thatā€™s all you need to know#acd stories are about just some guy who loves his job (which he invented himself btw after quitting college) thatā€™s it#i am overcome with an almighty need to squeeze his cheeks#heā€™s everything to me <3#alright if i donā€™t stop now i doubt i ever will LMAO bye#acd holmes#if u read till the end u get a cookie and a kiss on the nose i love u#silv tag šŸ’ž

This has been on my draft since September, wayback when I did not know how Oshi no Ko's story will progress. So the setting of this story is after chapter 159.
While other OnK readers absolutely believe that Aqua likes Kana or that them ending up together is endgame, I am one who won't believe anything unless the character says it himself or until the story is concluded. It's just that, I've seen this built-up chemistry for so many times, a short-haired-not-main-character girl falling for the main character, but never ending up together. I don't write stories, but if my favourite OnK character will end up in an "unrequited" love, here's my prompt. It's somehow inspired by them.
ā˜† ā˜† ā˜† ā˜† ā˜† ā˜†
Scenario: Ruby successfully had a solo tour concluded at Tokyo Dome. A congratulatory party is being held and former members of B-Komachi were invited, Kana included. Amidst the busy party, Kana finds herself at the balcony, Aqua approaches.
Kana: Isn't this familiar?
Aqua: What is?
Kana: When we were preparing for JIF, we were also at the balcony. Only difference is you're here as you are and not disguising as Pieyon.
Aqua: You're right.
Kana: I briefly remember you telling me all sort of things I haven't said to anyone about and that you were my fan. Were you, Aqua?
Aqua: I am still a fan.
Kana: That feels nice, finally hearing it without a mask.
Aqua: ...
*Kana drops her keys*
*Aqua kneels down and picks it up*
Kana: Haha! This also looks familiar! Remember how you knelt down at the playground and persuaded me to become an idol?
*Aqua stands up, keys still in his hand*
Aqua: That sure feels like ages ago.
Kana: My logic was telling me back then that "no" was the only possible answer to that offer but I saw potential on Ruby right there and then. Come to think of it, I even thought of her having similarities with Ai-san, even without knowing yet that she's your mother.
*Kana gazes at Ruby as she is being surrounded by influential people from the industry congratulating her on the success of her solo tour*
Kana: Ruby is really meant to be an idol.
Aqua: It was her dream, and Ai's dream for her.
Kana: What about your dream? How is medical school going?
Aqua: I'm now a resident in the nearby hospital.
Kana: Really?! Good for you, Aqua! Never once doubted you! I was sure you'll be able to fulfill your dream of being a doctor.
Aqua: ... By the way, I saw your latest movie.
Kana: You did? I was good right?
Aqua: You've always been good at acting.
*Kana laughs proudly*
Aqua: ... In the end, I was not able to watch your graduation concert last time. I'm sorry.
Kana: I noticed. But don't worry about it. There were so many things that happened that time. It can't be helped. I'm just glad we were able to conclude that tour without trouble.
Aqua: But if I did, I would have...
*Aqua gets cut by a guy who approached Kana*
Kana: Is it time already?
*the guy nods*
Kana: I'm sorry, Aqua. We have to go.
*Aqua lost in his own thoughts*
Kana: Hey, would you mind handing me my keys?
*Aqua forgot that he's still holding the keys. When he opened his hand, he noticed the keychains were a glove catching a ball, and the word "dream"*
And in a split second, everything flashed in his mind. That first catch ball with Kana. The second time where they talked about their future plans and dreams.
Kana: Aqua?
Aqua: I'm sorry. Here you go.
Kana: Thank you. It was nice catching up with you.
*Kana walks a way, her hand being held by the guy*
Memcho passed by as Kana was leaving. Kana said her goodbye as they had other commitment to attend to. Memcho approached Aqua at the balcony.
Memcho: Kana left already.
Aqua: "Ah-kun". It's funny. I never cared for it too much, but it's a bittersweet feeling to hear Arima call me as Aqua. Just Aqua.
Memcho remembered how happy Kana was when she started calling Aqua "Ah-kun". It was something that belonged to Kana and Aqua, and now it's gone.
Memcho places her arm in Aqua's shoulder, leaning her head towards Aqua and silently comforting him. Kana and Aqua are two dear friends she watched closely. Memcho knows that Kana likes Aqua from the time they went home after JIF. And she knows that Aqua cares a lot for Kana which is why he distanced himself from Kana in order to protect her. So many things could have been said but it's too late.
The party ended and they went home. Aqua headed to his room. He sat on his bed, sitting idly, staring at the corner of his room. He then noticed the luggage that he and Kana bought. He pulled out the luggage, opened it, and brought out what's inside, one by one.
The script to "I'll Go With Sweet Today" where in he got to act with Kana again. A stack of books with trivial contents, the same books Kana likes to read. The umbrella that Kana placed over him when he was drenched in the rain, after accidentally hurting Kana. The hat that Kana left on the street as she was running away from the reporter. Kana's white glowstick. He picks up the glowstick and thought of that concert that he missed. He would have waved this glowstick for Kana. Her dream was for him to look at her not knowing that her dream already came true. But it's too late now. That time is gone and he already lost the opportunity to say anything. He returns everything inside the luggage, slowly closing it down and kept it again in the corner of his room, just as how he kept his feelings in the corner of his heart.
***
Kana: That was nostalgic.
The guy: Are you still...towards Aqua...
Kana: Oh no, not anymore! Though I won't deny the fact that a huge part of my youth was seriously in love with him.
Kana picks up her keys from her purse, and caught a glimpse of her keychains- a glove catching a ball, and the word "dream".
Kana: Ah-kun was my dream. But some dreams were just not meant to be realized.
