𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 - 𝑷𝑨𝑵𝑫𝑶𝑹𝑨'𝑺 𝑭𝑰𝑹𝑺𝑻 𝑨𝑷𝑷𝑬𝑨𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑵𝑪𝑬
She kneeled, panting amidst blood and guts, plenty of it splattered on her face and clothes. When their cart had separated, coming to a halt and the soldiers stood—blades ready—she’d done what she needed to do. It wasn’t like they could manage such a feat anyway. Bronze wasn’t enough. Neither was the black quartz-steel they’d strapped to her face.
Speaking of…
She yanked it off, the metal pins that kept it locked to her jaw ripping skin. It’d heal soon enough.
Pandora tossed the muzzle to the ground, sniffing as she did so. It clattered and slid into a body. Her actions weren’t short of slaughter. That, however, wasn’t a feat on her part. Humans went down easily enough. Especially when they were at such a disadvantage. It would require someone special to take down the universe’s first god.
The creator stood to her full height, glancing over her shoulder.
“I’m afraid you’re late to the party,” she said numbly. A goddess stood in the doorway, her grey eyes wide, her black hair tied in a ponytail. Another stood at her side, a god with gleaming, hard-as-iron orange eyes. She cocked a brow at the pair. Moons and planets.
Her eyes shifted to the goddess. “Why are you here?” Rather than wait to hear the answer, Pandora went to work wiping the blood off her face. The soldiers hadn’t made her bleed. Had they, black would’ve spilled with their red.
“You’re the first god,” she answered. Pandora couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “You were Queen of Kaleis.”
She damned the rest of the blood covering her and made for the doorway. The Moon Goddess didn’t bother barring her from leaving, didn’t even move, but the Planet God—with a frame near six and a half feet no doubt—blocked her from the exit.
Her weapon was summoned to her hand, no more than a whisper of air in her grasp before she was raising it, the blade erupting from the smoky stone hilt. The tip rested below his chin.
His eyes went wide. “That’s a stardust weapon.”
“So it really is you,” the goddess exclaimed.
Rather than answer, Pandora narrowed her eyes and pressed forward, the tall god moving without question. At last, she hopped from the train. Rubbing the engraving on the hilt, the blade collapsed into itself and she retreated, saying, “Leave me alone, and should you ever be unlucky enough to meet another god with one of these weapons, run.”
She was only a few steps away when the goddess was at her side. “But we need your help.”
“You’re better off without it.”
“Only you can stop the war.”
She spun on her heels to face her, her features contorted into something ferocious. It was enough to have the Moon Goddess reeling back, her hooded eyes cinched in confusion.
“There’s no stopping the war,” she hissed, shaking her head. “It’s inevitable. Whether we like it or not, QueenOmne and every one of the idiot gods who believes she’s the real monarch will follow her to war—and the Revolutionists…” Pandora took a step forward, a threat woven into the action. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the Planet God set his eyes upon her, his own promise of violence floating in the air between them. “The Revolutionists want us dead.”
Huffing, she turned back to the night. Death made the air heavy. One of her own gods was gone. It was as tangible as the touch of the breeze on her fingers as it brushed past. If only she’d known a day earlier—then war could’ve been prevented. A day earlier, and she could’ve kept her own creation from being slaughter; but the day was done, the night covering the world, and the war was well on its way to beginning.

Light STATUS: Seeking Publication
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒:
In the wake of a god being mysteriously killed, the Nameless War has waged between the gods and humanity for fifty-eight years, killing that which is mortal and immortal, and creating constant battles for territory between the divine Creator military and the human Revolutionists. As hope for future peace between the species wanes, the fate of the war lands in unlikely hands. Pandora, a goddess, the lost creator, nameless and chained to the Earth because of duty, yet still running from her true power. Quinn, a god, the skijic and Creator High General, desperate for the memories of a life lost and the familiarity of a purple-eyed goddess. Natia, a girl, heiress to one of the Republic of Valentulus’s most powerful cities, and slave to the Revolutionist Snake General. Loyalties whither, fear awakens, and stories collide as the Nameless War reaches its tipping point. It is up to Pandora, Quinn, and Natia, each of them sworn against one another, to challenge the boundaries of their duties—and their pasts. The only thing that might change their opposing fates is the truth, but letting the past fly free could very well set the darkness loose. The fight between deities and humanity is made equal, and the fate of the universe unsure.
𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 - 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐬
PANDORA: Goddess of Nothing, Governor of Domum Deorum, Creator of the Universe. Extremely skilled in both alchemic and physical combat; well versed in a number of chordophone instruments (piano, kaleiscian zarisk, violin); selfless and self sacrificing; compassionate, analytical, cultured, stubborn, witty. QUINN: God of Stars, High General of the Creator Military. Omne’s personal “lap dog” before his capture; good with any blade, has "shit aim"; short with those he doesn’t know/care about; protective, sarcastic, composed, knowledgeable, caring, prideful. NATIA GENESIS: Heiress of Genesis Point. Little Sparrow. Remarkably intelligent in regards to literature, strategy, and divine biology due to intense schooling; the Republic of Valentulus' most renowned deitologist; near non-existent family ties outside of the media; intelligent, kind, self-destructive, abrasive.
𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 - 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐬
OPHELIA SERPENTINE – General of the Revolutionist Military Government. Although not a master of strategy like Natia, she is manipulative; willing to do any and everything to maintain her power; manipulative, emotionally intelligent, controlling, dedicated, knowledgeable, passionate. OMNE - Goddess of the Universe (Mind), Queen of the Gods. Like Ophelia, she is extremely manipulative in order to achieve her means, though she keeps them hard to distinguish; analytical, facetious, secretive, manipulative, humorous, rude.
𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆
REPUBLIC OF VALENTULUS – Otherwise known as the R.O.V.; had once been the newly created nation in place of the United States in order to maintain control over the worsening relations between gods and humans. Unfortunately, much of it was destroyed after the beginning of the war, spare for the wealthiest districts and cities. DOMUM DEORUM - Heather’s city she built through the means of alchemy. Gods and humans live in unity here, under the leadership of Heather’s councils: Low Council (general citizens), High Council (divine and human district leaders), Master Alchemists (gods who have mastered the alchemic arts). For fifty-eight years Domum Deorum has existed in secret, though their efforts in the war remain influential.  GENESIS POINT - A city with close ties to the Revolutionist military government. Mainly profits from scientific innovations, particularly thanks to Natia's efforts as a deitologist, and diplomatic advisors. As such, they are a major producer of both technology and weaponry. The city has been led by the Genesis family since its creation, Lukyn Genesis the most recent, with Natia Genesis as the next in line to inherit one of the R.O.V.'s most powerful governments.
(order of protags in the images above: Natia Genesis, Quinn, Pandora.)
Note: this is definitely one of several times i've introduced this particular book, but i'm so, so, so happy to do so. infinite tangents is the first book of many in the natural orders series, and i'm so excited to share with you all how far this story has come since i came up with it in 2014 (which is insane to me). hopefully, this story will be published soon... if i can work up the courage to email literary agents.

𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 : 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐍
Strange in a world of gods and humans, it had been the gods who learned to keep their heads down.
He dared not stare at anyone as he walked down the street, hands tucked in his pockets, shoes hardly making a sound with each step he took toward the hospital. Things had become worse than ever in a matter of weeks. The Revolutionists, humanity’s righteous brigade of scientists, soldiers, and supremacists, was gaining traction in multiple countries now. Should Quinn, God of Stars, behave as if he were divine, as if his blood ran any color but red, he’d risk the same fate as the dozens of gods who’d disappeared. Dozens just gone—and they were the fools.
Fools to go on pretending, to register themselves on the humans’ whims, to stifle their powers and refuse to use them because it was asked of them. After all, they were the aliens here, the foreigners. Immortal, godly, and yet they were hated by the very creatures that had once devoutly praised them.
As if he could judge his fellow deities. He’d stayed, and he was still staying. From the moment he arrived thousands of years ago, the first empires of Earth falling, he’d stayed.
But Quinn had been wise not to register himself. To pretend as if, when Omne signed the Heavens Act, he’d never existed. Only a decade ago had he resurfaced to continue his work. Even despite all their technological advancements, many of which being thanks to his kind, humans were still fragile things. He still had use, even if he couldn’t use his title. He could still save people.
Ignoring the latest propaganda being spat out by the Revolutionists, the maroon and scarlet poster glaring up at him, he raced up the steps to the hospital entrance.Things were quiet this late at night. It left him to his own thoughts as he finally reached the top-most level of the hospital. He slipped out of his jacket and into his lab coat, catching the faintest glimpse of his scar as he did so. Quinn never did know where it’d come from. When he awoke from his creation, guarded by a ring of stars—the greatest wonder of the now dead Phantom Empire—he had it. Not for millions of years did he bother questioning it.

find the word game
thank you at @writingbyjillian for tagging me :)
my words are spin, game, beating and cage!
i’ll be pulling them from draft 2 of Infinite Tangents
SPIN
She tossed all her reluctance out of her mind and threw herself forward. There was nothing but air for a long time. Air and darkness and the faintest snap of twigs. Then she met the ground again. Rocks mauled her skin as she rolled down. Natia hit hard spots on the hill, making her head spin. It made no difference with all the adrenaline hammering through her veins.
GAME
Now it was a waiting game. A game that Pandora despised with every ounce of her being. If she could, she’d wake up Quinn now and asked what he’d been doing. Instead, she settled for whatever information Silvestre and Psi could scrounge up on him.
Meanwhile, Pandora did what she did best: fight.
BEATING
With that indifference still anchoring her, she made to leave the way they came.
But for his own reason, perhaps unknown, perhaps feared, perhaps similar to hers, Quinn grabbed her wrist and spun her back to him.
Her hand planted itself against his chest as she stared up at him. The softness was still in his gaze as he held her steady against him, her own heart beating in tandem with the one she could feel through his shirt. His eyes flickered lower, a question on his lips that he drank back down like ambrosia.
Ambrosia--which made his eyes go hazy and his face come close enough that she could feel his exhale ghost her cheeks, her body immediately relishing the warmth it provided.
CAGE
“Little sparrow,” the disembodied voice began again. It surrounded her. “You are so beautiful. So lovely. If I could, I would keep you in a cage of glass to admire you forever. What enchanting, mortal beauty.”
Every single breath Natia took quivered. In fact, her whole body was shaking.
Maybe she could back away slowly enough that whatever it was wouldn’t notice. That mass was bubbling up though. If she tried to escape again it might cut her deeper. She was already bleeding so much.
“But I’m afraid I can’t.”
i loved these words! thanks again :) my words will be: pile, mark, leap, and tearing.
i’ll tag @svpphicwrites @akindofmagictoo @solipsism-lemonade @sleepyowlwrites and whoever else would like to do it :) of course, no pressure for those i did tag!!!

WIP INTRODUCTION
THE NATURAL ORDERS: INFINITE TANGENTS
(by |k.b.h.| @rhyaxxyn )
But even as she uttered those words--damnation for them both it seemed--Quinn thought and he wished that maybe, this time, their lives might just overlap for the rest of eternity. From the look in her eyes, purple as a field of lavender during a low lit sunrise, he knew Pandora wished for that as well.
AGE: 16+
GENRE: DARK/CONTEMPORARY FANTASY, SCIFI
MAJOR THEMES: Political intrigue, religion, conspiracy, forgotten pasts, enemies to lovers, war, grief, revenge, freedom, secrets.
SETTING: The R.O.V., or the Republic of Valetinus, during the Nameless War which has been waged between humanity and the alien species known as gods, or deities for the past 56 years. This area, although technically independent, is mainly controlled by General Ophelia Serpentine of the Human Revolutionists. Right under her nose is Domum Deorum though, a secret city with both gods and humans living in harmony. This city is led by Pandora, the true first god, creator of existence, and the supposed Goddess of Nothing.
STATUS: 2nd round of edits
CURRENT WC: 110,786
SYNOPSIS:
Pandora and Quinn wanted nothing to do with the Nameless War between gods and humans from the beginning, but due to their remarkable abilities and the Natural Orders they represent in the universe they are seen as perfect fits for the fight. Decades later they are still working for opposite causes, each of them leading their people through the ongoing war. Quinn and Pandora find their lives suddenly colliding together after a rescue mission though, and Pandora has no choice but to keep the God of Stars around. She would usually be thrilled to have someone join her in the fight to unite gods and humans, but Pandora has a closet full of skeletons from her past. A past Quinn is unknowingly apart of. Now she must juggle her responsibilities as a leader and mentor while finding a way to keep the awakening demons in her head at bay. Loyalties whither and fear awakens in both Pandora and Quinn's life as the Nameless War approaches its tipping point. The only thing that might change it all is the truth, but Pandora can't decide what would be worse: to let the past fly free or watch the world burn.

“That”s golden,” she spat. Natia couldn’t believe she was even humoring this conversation with Lucifer, let alone allowing him to be in her room. He was the enemy. Even when she didn’t know his true name he was the threat. She should’ve already warned Quinn and Heather of his presence in the palace, but...
“I could kill you.” Her stardust weapon--and his too--was conjured in her right hand, blade already out. Right here and now, Natia could end the war. Maybe then, all those traitorous thoughts would leave her alone.
But he took a step toward her. “I know.” Lucifer smiled gently as he approached. She eyed his throat. One move--one swift swing, and the God of Darkness would be dead. He reached Natia, and when his hand came around the weapon, it recoiled back into her holster. It clattered to the ground, the obsidian rod ringing.
“You look strong,” he offered, a little awkwardly, she might add. Natia averted her eyes. He couldn’t be here. Why her rooms? If he could steal away into the palace, why not go straight to Heather, or Quinn? She wasn’t what he wanted. The war didn’t depend on her as much as it did them. “I didn’t think it was you I was fighting at first. You’re so different.” His fingers ran through her hair.
“It has been a year since you dropped me off at the Covens,” she said, keeping her voice quiet for fear it might betray her.
“In the hopes they would treat you well.”
“They did. After all, I’m engaged to one of them.”
“So I’ve heard.”
Her heart was racing. Why did Cordrus have to be right? I can feel it in your heart. You’re waiting for someone to come back to you. She hated that. Hated that it was Lucifer. Hated that even after a year and her transition into a goddess, she was still some fragile-hearted human.
“I need to kill you,” she whispered numbly. “I want to kill you.”
“Then do it.” His fingers traced the line of her jaw, bringing her eyes back to his golden ones. The stardust blade was in his hands now. It was all he needed to kill her, but he slid it back into her grasp. “Do it.”
She exhaled roughly. Lucifer knew exactly what he was doing. He was making a point, and she was only proving it.
“Why do I let you do this to me?” Nata asked. The back of her throat stung. Her eyebrows tented as she continued, asking, “Why do I let you ruin me?”
When both of his hands grabbed her face it was desperate, his way of holding her gaze even as she wanted to disappear. “Stop letting me then.”
Natia realized then that he was begging her. Were they this destructive to each other? This ruinous? When the war ended would it be through a treaty, or because whatever was between them finally shattered, ending the Nameless War with only their blood?
“I can’t,” she confessed, shutting her eyes. Natia couldn’t look at him anymore. Kill him. Kill him. Kill him. She clenched her jaw. When his forehead fell against hers, she made no move to get away from him. He was so warm. It was strange, that when he was the God of Darkness, the God Killer, his presence froze Natia to her core, but when it was him--what he must’ve been when he was only an angel--her body filled with warmth.
Natia grabbed onto her collar. “I’m supposed to hate you,” she ground out. Her throat closed up.
“I am too.” His breath fanned across her face. It was so unfair that angels smelt of honey and sugar, even if they bathed in blood. “But for tonight, let me pretend we’re unfortunate strangers.” Lucifer’s fingernails scraped her scalp as he dragged them up to the crown of her head. “Let me pretend you’re the girl I was never supposed to meet, but was allowed to anyway.”
Opening her eyes again, she knew what the end of the world must feel like. It was a sense of standing at the edge of a bottomless cliff, the only end a million universes away. If she allowed it--a moment of forgetting all their history and becoming strangers--she’d be betraying Heather, and Quinn. Cordrus--her fiance--and both of their covens.
“You’re working with Ophelia,” she said. Ophelia, the woman who killed her entire family, who ripped apart her world. The scar across her lips was because of Ophelia, and Lucifer was working with her. Natia clenched her hands into his shirt. “I need to want to kill you.”
His face came close enough that his lips feathered against hers. A test, a prayer, a question.
“Then kill me,” he whispered. “Kill me, Natia.”
And so she did him one better. Natia, the youngest goddess and guardian of the King and Queen of Gods, crashed her lips against her sworn enemy’s, allowing herself to fade away entirely, letting her mind rage against her even as her heart rang out. She kissed him, letting the God of Darkness, the Devil become the air in her swelling lungs. By the way he clung to her, she had become his air too.
Unfortunate strangers for a night, but come tomorrow, she’d do everything in her power to destroy him. One night, and then the war forevermore.

INFINITE TANGENTS Character Intro
Part One: Protagonists
Tumblr media
A Goddess Wishing to Run...
A God With a Lost Past...
A Girl Broken By War...
Their Stories Collide at the Beginning of the End.
Tumblr media
Pandora always had a faint feeling she shouldn’t have stayed on Earth; not when humanity didn’t believe in the gods, nor when they finally did. But she stayed through it all, hiding amidst their masses, getting in trouble even when it was the last thing she meant to do. So when the Nameless War started, it only made sense that she was there for that too.
Leading a colony of humans and gods at least keeps her distracted by a past that is a void to everyone who knows her in Domum Deorum, the city she created to harbor those who wanted to remain neutral to the war. That is until she meets Quinn, Omne’s infamous and dangerous skijic who also happens to be a friend from her shadowy past which he might reveal to the entire world, Might, if only he remembered it.
Tumblr media
Quinn didn’t mean to become Omne’s General. He never wanted the position, but two years into his hesitant servitude to her she posed the question, and he, ready as always, saw a way to go behind her back. Now, decades into pretending to be her loyal general, sneaking innocent humans into safe havens, doing whatever he could to maintain the name skijic without being one.
Fifty-six years into the Nameless War he gets involved with Domum Deorum, a secret colony of humans and gods led by Pandora, the supposed Goddess of Nothing. Thrown into a side of the war he never knew existed, Quinn begins uncovering things about his past. A past he didn’t know he had. A past with Pandora.
Tumblr media
Natia Genesis is the heiress to Genesis Point, but she is more of a slave to the whims of General Ophelia Serpentine who uses her for her skills in deitology. Perhaps she’d be happier to serve humanity if it weren’t for the fiery past Natia has with the Revolutionists.
Getting a very sudden and confusing commission, Natia begins working on a whole other level of mystery regarding the gods. Not to mention what she and her friends are doing is nothing but conspiring against the Revolutionist military and humanity. Natia just wants to finish her commission and run away forever, but when truth after truth is revealed, she is faced with the truest form of darkness she’s ever seen. The only question is, will she survive it?

A pair of arms caught her, yanking her back. She roared so ferally, so wildly, that Natia thought she had become a wild animal set loose from a cage for the first time in her entire life. All that anger and distrust had been in the cage with her. And it was time to let it out.

She rolled her wrists, magic flowing into her fingertips. Lightning struck the ground around her, and the rain, once powerful and unyielding, halted mid-air, suspended by some invisible force. Her fingers strummed at every molecule around her. A tingle ran over her cheeks and nose and up across her skull. Wind burst around her, her hair lifting into a halo around her head as it did so.
Time to wake up, she told her soul.
It hummed in response.
I never slept.
