i don't post pics of me online for obvious reasons but. i did a halloween costume based on mag165 and it went HARD. like, makeup as if my face is sewed on and ripped off in parts (like one eye with a white contact lense) and a skeleton arm/hand thing i made for funsies on one side and two cardboard face masks with bloody edges i just kept carrying around. then keep trying to steal people's faces bc your own is peeling and in shreds and MAN it was sooo fun

thinking about tma s5 now that its been a while.. i havent relistened to it but lookingback at it. it was a mixed bag for me. disclaimer that i am very easily entertained. i liked the statements much more than the plot. the statements really dug in with that sort of.. like sick fascination element, scratching that sort of itch, at a much higher average than the other seasons.

the plot was the weakest out of all the seasons though. s1-4 were structured around the whole.. chekov's gun + putting all the little pieces together. s5 largely just.. dropped that. and that element was honestly the best part of the show's plot (for me). the feeling of "wait- i recognize that name!" and such was great!

the red herring of the extinction was a huge let down for me personally bc i love the extinction statements

idk. overall mixed opinions. i liked the statements iliked the creativity of the different fearscapes. was meh on the plot - it was entertaining but not.. memorable.

Tropes I like even though no one asked

So you know, this is my little corner if the Internet and nobody really sees what I post so sometimes I just tend to ramble on here.

Ambiguous/complex relationships

I love when two or more characters are in a relationship but no one really knows the nature of the relationship for example Jude Perry and Agnes Montague from TMA. It's never actually straight up told to us how Agnes and Perry relate. Nobody knows if there's anything romantic involved, not even Perry, herself. There's just love and yearning and just layers of doomed yuri but also doomed platonic relationship and doomed worshipper and God relationships. It's just so aitgoyri9y5ighjt. Also the fact that Jude is confirmed to be a lesbian, probably a butch lesbian, makes this so much more better.

2. Gay flamboyant egotistical bitches

This. This is why I live Elias as a villain. I love the flamboyant egotistical gays, and the way their heels clack to announce they've entered a room and yes, I know the trope is somewhat problematic but let me live damn it. It also weirdly refreshing like here is a guy a lot of ppl hate just because of their sexual/gender preferences and mannerisms but they don't let get them down. Instead they love themselves tp the point it's annoying. Like they're just spitting in the face of queerphobia in a way(even though some of them are the product of queer phobia). Also they just are fun to write and to watch. Like to the point all my villains are some flavour of this trope. Also, when I say gays, I mean gay coded too like Scar from Lion King.

Not me daydreaming at work about an Archivist!Martin AU where the timeline is mostly the same but in season 4 when Martin wakes up from his coma he discovers that instead of Peter Lukas taking over the institute it's Simon Fairchild and that Jon has joined him on very long and far away travels (including space???) to research the Extinction, eventually becoming an Eye-Vast avatar

Sooo Team 'Jon and Martin are stuck in an alternate universe where they lose all memory and the whole cycle starts again in that new universe, back to season 1, meaning they're stuck in an endless loop of living the same tragedy over and over (so the fears get to keep escaping into new realities, and jmart have to keep following this same ending over and over)' :) and yes this includes the chance that this is not the first time they're doing this :)))

ok so i feel like im the only tma guy EVER who is always likening jon to laura palmer right. this is my one unique experience

but i NEED to make a web weaving post about it at some point and im gonna start by talking about the first thing that comes to mind:

the choice laura imposes on herself to either live on while "possessed" by BOB (possessed in brackets bc while this happens in the text of the show its like. its Such a metaphor its not even funny anymore) or let him kill her about it so she wont have to hurt more people the way BOB hurt her.

VS.

jon, after basically dying in the unknowing, being given the choice (by oliver from the end) to come back after his coma or not. but while jon Does make the decision to wake up (because its not the end of the podcast and because he hasnt lost Everything yet so hes gotta have hope, which is nice at least) i feel like his struggles with the decision are similar to laura's.

by virtue of being made an eye avatar in the way that he became, hes constantly hurting people by feeding off of their traumas right. its similar to how, less metaphorically paranormal, laura is a girl with issues (understatement🙄) who cant seem to live in a way that Doesnt project these struggles on others. i keep calling the two metaphors for the cycle of abuse but like, gonna be real, i think the cycle of abuse is an existing psychological term that doesnt mean what i thought it means. im talking about a metaphor for how being brought up in a shit situation will have u subconsciously act the same towards your own environment. shown in jon being manipulated into being an eye avatar etc and now making people re-experience their traumas. or laura suffering her fathers abuse and taking her pain out on others to feel a sense of control. it JUST makes sense!!!!!
