okay lots of negativity recently so let's lighten the mood by thinking about what each season of The Legend of Vox Machina offers.

if you want a concise, quick and clean fantasy story where every character gets their moment to shine and most characters end it differently to where they started? you have Season 1!

you want a sporadic and land-crossing adventure that has high stakes but captures the fun and whimsy of an adventuring party? you have season 2!

you want gut-wrenching, emotional character beats that acts as a sort of climax to several things that have been hinted at and built towards over the course of the first 2 seasons? you have season 3!

So I just started watching The Legend of Vox Machina and finished season 1 in 3 days and my current thoughts.

Keyleth is my baby, I want only good things to happen to her she is the nature-loving, anxiety ridden, full of endless potential and only needing to believe in herself personification of me that I didn’t know I needed. Also she has the exact same colour scheme (Red hair and green clothing) as Sam from Totally Spies so my childhood crush is awakening and I see Sam in her too often.

Her and Vax are also cute with their will they, won’t they. Moving to Vax he is a charismatic and sneaky half elf who I also love (was not expecting him to drop the in love line so soon but OKAY here for it). Adore his dynamic with Vex and the obvious we could always leave this team but nooo they are family too.

Speaking of Mommy- I mean Wife- I mean Vex. Nothing better than a gorgeous half elf archer who takes care of everyone and toes that hilarious line of I hate you all AND I love you all.

The other side of the parental dynamic is Percy who having a demon attached was very cool and evil and of course ‘murder of all family’ closure is important so glad he got that and hey now that the gun is gone I guess every team does need the guy who just shoots and leads and its him.

Onto the gnomes we have Pike who is awesome a literal ray of burping sunshine who I would ask to bless me if she was real.

Also Scanlan who is hilarious, needs to use his power more and is about 10% of the way on his mission to fuck every being in the realm.

Plus we have Grog and who doesn’t adore a lovable oaf whose only goal in life is to murder everything.

lastly but not least is the bear Trinket who clearly we do not get enough of.

Idk how it is in Critical Role, but she's doing almost the exact Tulip/Lake voice for Legend of Vox Machina. With her, Liam O'brien, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel in there for the 4kids-voice-from-my-childhood rep, and even David Tenant, all this show is missing is Ian Sinclair and it would have literally all of my favorite voice actors from both anime and western animation.

Percy has the courage to put his heart on the line and start a relationship (knowing this could be trouble and taking the chance anyways) and Vex doesn't (throwing the bottle of Courage which, per sound effects, shatters)

And Vex's response to that statement from her brother...

And yet Percival is the cleverest man you know? hm?

not what I expected to get out of my s1 rewatch but I'll take it!

Seeing Pike in TLOVM has me thinking about how they'll depict Yasha, because Yasha was developed by Ashley knowing she'd wouldn't be there all the time and so the fact that she often went off on her own (even before Obann overtakes her mid-campaign) was an important part of her character. Several of her absences were much more gracefully woven in, and I think it's incredibly important that after she and the Mighty Nein break her free, she stays with them consistently from then on. I think she still should sometimes be absent! We should see her perspective, perhaps, instead of only showing her via Scry, but I think she still should leave sometimes for no reason!

Twice-over, Laudna stands in the face of power and watches small, scarred hands reach for it before she can. Twice-over, she looks at Orym and, with poison in her throat, thinks “it should have been me.” Twice-over, Delilah looks through Laudna with bared teeth and clawed hands, grasping at nothing yet again. Twice-over, Delilah looks at a stubborn halfling squaring his shoulders and thinks “this little one is entirely too much trouble.” Over and over, Laudna thinks of Orym in the chasm of truth, voice breaking with both his faith and the fact that he has spent too much time thinking about how to neutralize them all. Over and over, Laudna thinks of oblivion, of rope around her neck, of being cut free; over and over, she hopes it’s Orym.

i love so much about how ripley and orthax's partnership is portrayed here, especially in contrast with percy's former relationship with orthax and the parallels between him and ripley

ripley and orthax are partners. percy never really understood what orthax was, or what his role was in the demon's plan. ripley has virtually no one to act as her moral compass. percy has a lot of people in his life to check his worst impulses (i.e., vox machina, cassandra). ripley can live with committing numerous atrocities in the name of science and vengeance, and is an active participant. orthax had to up the ante when the original plan was thwarted and resorted to manipulating percy through hallucinations to try and kill his friends in an attempt to isolate him
