#keyleth is everything to me

So I just started watching The Legend of Vox Machina and finished season 1 in 3 days and my current thoughts.

Keyleth is my baby, I want only good things to happen to her she is the nature-loving, anxiety ridden, full of endless potential and only needing to believe in herself personification of me that I didn’t know I needed. Also she has the exact same colour scheme (Red hair and green clothing) as Sam from Totally Spies so my childhood crush is awakening and I see Sam in her too often.

Her and Vax are also cute with their will they, won’t they. Moving to Vax he is a charismatic and sneaky half elf who I also love (was not expecting him to drop the in love line so soon but OKAY here for it). Adore his dynamic with Vex and the obvious we could always leave this team but nooo they are family too.

Speaking of Mommy- I mean Wife- I mean Vex. Nothing better than a gorgeous half elf archer who takes care of everyone and toes that hilarious line of I hate you all AND I love you all.

The other side of the parental dynamic is Percy who having a demon attached was very cool and evil and of course ‘murder of all family’ closure is important so glad he got that and hey now that the gun is gone I guess every team does need the guy who just shoots and leads and its him.

Onto the gnomes we have Pike who is awesome a literal ray of burping sunshine who I would ask to bless me if she was real.

Also Scanlan who is hilarious, needs to use his power more and is about 10% of the way on his mission to fuck every being in the realm.

Plus we have Grog and who doesn’t adore a lovable oaf whose only goal in life is to murder everything.

lastly but not least is the bear Trinket who clearly we do not get enough of.

Hartman Thoughts 💭

I just think about how even though Vax has left the mortal plane, he’s definitely still looking after his team.

He’s a self sacrificing hunk, and after his long days of helping out the Raven Queen, his side gig is taking time to make sure his friends are all happy and healthy.

Besides, he’s in love with one of them (looking at yOU KIKI), so I definitely think he takes any opportunity he can to stare at her lovingly (from a distance…or is it from another dimension?)

veth talking to vilya as a mother to mother — both separated from their families by cruel magic, — really fucking got me. this deep understanding they both had for each other, the encouragement veth gave to vilya to go for it, to come back.

vilya promising that soon enough veth will get to kiss her little one. veth promising that when she does she will think of vilya.

vilya finally going home, where her daughter that saved the world and pushed through all the obstacles is leading their people, meets her. and i am just so fucking sure it wasn't the leader of the ashari but a little girl that once watched her mother leave and never come back run into vilya's arms.

maybe this is just because it feels like a metaphor for how tlovm uses vex in general (and i could write an essay about it and have and will again) but something that i both understand tlovm choosing to do and deeply hate as a choice they made is vex no longer being the one to break thordak’s crystal even though vax was still the one to kill him. especially since the show was very explicit about thordak being responsible for killing the twins’ mother and also set it up as a sort of avenging of percy, it felt tonally weird to literally just have vex hanging out in the background for both the crystal breaking and him being killed. it’s fine (deeply upset voice) i understand that adjustments to pike’s vestige made this make sense for the plot but. glad to have vex continue to be a witness in tlovm moments that in the campaign her agency in were delicious character moments. it’s fine.

On today's menu of the rotisserie in my mind, I bring you:

Keyleth is care-starved. What is care-starved? She misses being taken care of. Simple things like someone making dinner for her, doing the dishes after a long day of work so she can sit on the couch and read a book, and giving her a massage. Extra points if they brush her hair for her.

Vax loves taking care of people. I would go as far as saying that's his love language. He's been taking care of Vex all his life, and he loves it. It brings him immeasurable joy.

The first time Vax meets Keyleth he immediately knows she isn't someone who is used to get taken care of. Either from the fact that she's eating a poorly-made sandwich for lunch, or because her hair looks dull and broken. It takes Keyleth a long time to notice the small things Vax does for her, simply because she's not used to it, so she doesn't expect it.

It's after a particularly hard day at work that it clicks for her. Keyleth is drenched because she forgot her umbrella, she is starving because she didn't have time to eat lunch, her hair is a mess from humidity, and her feet hurt from having to walk on heels all day. One look at Keyleth's miserable face and mood is all it takes for Vax to get to his feet and start working.

He draws a warm bath first, with lavender and chamomile salts. While Keyleth is soaking, Vax fluffs and warms up towels and a flannel pajama, he starts on dinner and opens a bottle of wine. Once Keyleth is out, he combs and braids her hair while she sips on the wine, and after dinner, they enjoy a warm cup of tea and cookies by the fire as Vax rubs Keyleth's feet while she reads her book. The night isn't complete without cuddles in bed and Keyleth falling asleep to the soft, lulling touch of Vax's hand scratching her scalp.

'bard's lament' this 'bard's lament' that'.. it was a pretty solid episode like pls.. all the pieces are on the board. things are lined up. things can and probably will still Happen. like rip to season 3 finale haters but im different lol. it seems SO hilariously dumb to even say anything about characters being ooc, things not happening as they 'should' or whatever tf like..... this very much unlike other IPs. some complaints simply can't apply. the people who play these characters actually personally OWN and wrote them in the first go around. and not only do they understand their characters intimately, they are doing what makes the story flow better in a new medium. which is not to say they are chopping down what's really important, they are actually condensing 4 hours of dice rolling and dick jokes into something coherent and less than half an hour long. they are making it work. and it is working. it's not perfect and i actually really do get some people's disappointment in some choices, but lbr some of them are 1) completely understandable when you take everything Critical Role is into account (kash, for one. i mean i wasn't too happy about it too but i do get it) and 2) things that are not resolved or can be further developed in the future (bard's lament can still happen, in some way; i can already come up with like, three ways -hehe nice-- it could happen in s4). i mean this is fucking season 3, hasn't all of this been said a thousand times over by now? seems pretty weird people are still doubting and not trusting these storytellers know what they're doing. like not only does the og campaign still exist as its own thing but also enjoying an adaptation for what it is is entirely possible. also? having fun is allowed and recommended, i mean, jesus christ
