Long rainy days of the typhoon season means it’s also time for our local SOUPer heroes. Here are 6 soup suggestions to help fight colds, wet commutes, or to help melt the clouds away in our own minds.
Bisaya halang-halang brings spice, lemongrass, and coconut milk to our lives. Batsoy from Iloilo and Kinalas from Bicol brings us rich, meaty, noodle soups. Tiyula itum from Tausug and Muslim cooks brings us unique flavors from Southern Mindanao, while Luzon’s Tinola and Sinigang make a vegetable-rich soup duo, full of varying shades of green and spice. The names of these soups are illustrated with their names either in Badlit from the Visayas, Basahan from Bicol, or Tagalog Baybayin.
Wherever you are never forget: rain or shine, its sabaw time.

Tinola For Lunch (Filipino Chicken Ginger Soup/stew)

Today I cooked one of my brother’s most favorite dishes. I can basically cook this without a recipe now since I cook it quite a lot in my household. This time however, my mama asked if I could add some pechay (kinda like bokchoy? Or is that different?) to the dish. Tinola doesn’t normally have pechay in it, usually just chicken, zayote, and malunggay leaves(moringa) with a ginger based broth but since my mom wanted some, I added it in.
Cooking Tinola becomes a family activity in, I think, most filipino households since picking off every piece of malunggay leaf is a bit tedious so everybody helps out. While picking out malunggay leaves me, my siblings, and my mother all sat together on the table and it turns into a family bonding moment, chatting about our day, my mom reprimanding my brother for doing a sloppy job, and my little sister yapping about.
I also made homemade calamansi iced tea to drink with it for everyone. Just made a 1 liter pitcher’s worth of regular tea and added a generous amount of sugar then I added the juice of more than a doezen calamansi. Then you drink it with ice or leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours. It’s so refreshing and delicious. I get a great sense of satisfaction whenever my family constantly asks me to make something I’ve made since it meant they liked it so much and my homemade Iced tea is one of them. As well as my brother who lights up when he knows I am cooking Tinola, adobo, or soy garlic chicken. Though he always say “okay lang. (It tastes alright)” with an expressionless face, the way he eats more servings than usual and the way his face lights up when I tell him what I’m cooking is a clear indication that deep down he really liked it, he just can’t praise me directly since that won’t be in accordance to the sibling etiquette code 😂
I’m not a good cook by any means but seeing my family enjoy what I cook makes my heart warm and fuzzy inside.

Tinola - it’s a Filipino soup with chicken, onions, garlic, ginger, chayote, and chilli leaves (traditional) but those are difficult to get, so I use spinach. It’s salted with fish sauce, and it it’s delicious.

@bones-boneyard We’re certainly in for a crazy time now.
Around the same time that Sargas is about to face down Regulus, Albaz and Ecclesia are invited into the Cenote Enion Cradle. It is here where the Icejade live, ruled over by their Empress Kosmochlor.
Other Icejades include Acti, Tinola, and Tremora.

(As an aside why does it look like this whole place tastes like mint?)
Finally, there’s Aegirine, the youngest Icejade, and the one who was chosen by Kosmochlor to succeed her as their ruler, though it’s mentioned that she cries a lot for an Icejade, unlike Kosmochlor, who laughs a lot for an Icejade.
The Icejades prepare to seal Ecclesia’s Stigmata and maybe get Albaz back to normal, as the Swordsoul’s training has basically meant that if all goes to plan, Ecclesia’s Stigmata shouldn’t be able to activate unless she falls into despair. Unfortunately Longyuan shows up wielding both his and Mo Ye’s swords.
Turns out Longyuan is hella fucking evil, as he’s always wanted to be the Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign instead of Chengying, however, he knew Chunjun would detect his ill intent, so he split his original sword in two, and gave the one that had his darkness inside it to Mo Ye, so Chunjun wouldn’t sense his intentions. So after Ad Libitum showed up and talked with him, he decided it was just about the perfect time to try and take over. So he killed Mo Ye offscreen and took her half of his sword back. With both halves now back in his possession, his true power is released, and he becomes the Swordsoul Sinister Sovereign Qixing Longyuan.

(That weird sword thing is his tail according to his concept art.)

Longyuan goes after Kosmochlor to try and kill her, but she creates a massive construct called Kingfisher.
Soon after that, Chengying shows up as well, and battles Longyuan alongside Kingfisher.
So where are Albaz and Ecclesia during all of this? Well, they’ve got some of their own problems to contend with.

Aluber appears from a Hole, complete with the wings from his Masquerade dragon form.
Aluber then uses his control over the Holes to restrain Albaz and drain him of his power, and uses it to transform into Lubellion the Searing Dragon. Ecclesia gets the hell out of dodge by now, as chaos is also beginning to erupt outside.
Lubellion could be seen as Aluber’s true form, much like how Albion could be seen as Albaz’s, but since Aluber absorbed Albaz’s power, Lubellion is considerably more powerful, and has control over ancient, divine flames. Aluber puts this ability to good use, burning Chengying and Kosmochlor to ashes while they were busy with Longyuan. Aegirine, who was nearby at the time, watches as her mother figure dulls and begins to crumble.

While Albaz can’t turn into dragons anymore, he still felt the last bits of power released by Kosmochlor and Chengying, who did so for Albaz to stand a fighting chance against Longyuan and Aluber.
With the power of the Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign and the Empress of the Icejade combined, Albaz becomes Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon, combining the strength of all of his previous dragon forms (whose silhouettes also appear in his blades).
With his newfound power, Albaz absolutely demolishes Longyuan, and puts the usurping wyrm on the verge of death, but there’s still Aluber to deal with…

(Concept art of Lubellion and Mirrorjade, for your viewing pleasure)

—- 🌼 NOLI FANART POST ☀️ —-
BRO CAN’T MAKE DIGITAL ART WITHOUT GETTING SORE EYES 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway the two-month long awaited fanart of like. one segment of characters from the Noli fic I wrote last year
(( for context it has like. 93 pages and I used the draft to win Nanowrimo last year so there’s that ))
ANYWAY MOVING ON— from left to right we have
🕊️ Juan Carlos “Clarito” Ibarra y de Los Santos
Is the most like his mother
Trying his best, loves ballet and embroidery but doesn’t dare tell anyone that isn’t his sister ( or mother, who urged him to dance )
Is often mistaken for a young maiden, or a “deity amongst mortals” ( almost to a point where it is a misfortune )
Pointe shoes, marks on the wall for fouettés and lots and lots of (invisible) string
The sweetest :(((
🪞 Victoria Ibarra y Magsalin de Los Santos
Does not starkly resemble Crisostomo Ibarra ( nor her mother at first glance )
Absolutely despises mirrors and can’t bear to look in them, loves books and philosophy though
Favorite genres are mystery and anything featuring a criminal case
Tell me who she resembles from Noli me Tangere. I’ll wait ( hint : she’s illegitimate )
Has a pretty depressing background + loves her family to the ends of the earth
If Clarito were a dove, she would be a black cat
🌞 Christina Ibarra de Los Santos y Isabela
Golden retriever hours + tells people the wrong name when introducing herself
MUST RUN ( it’s fun ) + random onomatopoeia
Once played with fireworks up close on New Year’s Eve ( much to the discontent of her three grandfathers )
Most resembles her peepaw :,,]]
Chaotic good probably
The boatman’s son is her best friend ( HE’S ALIVE ??? )
Might provide more story ideas // headcanons soon ?? Which I should have done long ago but oh well
More fanart next week ‼️ ( And maybe comics ??? Hmmmm )
#noli me tangere#thank you to those who waited#noli fanart#might draw all the kids in this story before moving on to their parents oh wow#anyway yes they’re Ibarras#Christina’s favorite food is tinola and keso icecream#Clarito is most like his mother in a very unfortunate way#Victoria deserves comfort :((#el noli#noli

i feel like the idea of seasoning food is doing some weird backwards thing because I've seen a couple times people coming for dishes like hainanese chicken rice because it looks bland and soggy w ppl not understanding like the way its made....
like the point of this was to decolonize the way you view food but now it's circling to ethnic food is only acceptable if it fits the palatable way its supposed to look
#ohhh when they discover tinola.....#i get it....boiled chicken skin is probably an acquired taste#and i know a lot of textures in asian and sea cuisine is unfamiliar to many ppl#and thats fine if it doesnt agree w u texture-ally....#but the absolute disrespect ...i#i love hainanese chicken rice btw#a lot of filipino food is not aesthetically pleasing...so like

Telesforo NO-
It drives me mad why they keep the locket so much ;-; that they made Juli a dang servant (that the family/Tatang Selo does not want to do)
This is also the chapter of: Juliana Slander and well... Why are they arresting Tatang Selo?
Since i cannot understand much.... Simoun selling at Tales' den is well... just why?
This is just... foolish. Unless he is framed.
MY FRIEND I AM SO SORRY FOR ANSWERING SO LATE OMG ;-; just went through a busy month as i am about to graduate in my current year and had no time to pop back in here huhu but i've gathered my 2 brain cells now except whatever i wrote here isn't coherent at all
also first off the fact that this chapter is called merry christmas...u wanna beat up rizal w/me
aaaaaa i was screaming at simoun the entire damn chapter!! injustice really drives people to achieve justice and/or retribution in ways they see fit, and to achieve it with fury and vengeance is what simoun wanted to happen for all filipinos which is so fookin dumb like !! YOU BETTER STOP. and to think i had classmates before who cheered him on for exploiting the unprivileged and the oppressed like this bc "haha the indios' rebellion go brrr" but shits on activists and people who hold leftist political ideologies now by red-tagging them,,,, wild. like look around!! see what state we are in right now for people to be desparate enough to rebel and oppose the clowns, murderers, and the thieves in power. WILD.
juli's servitude still makes my heart hurt even now too :( it's just all so fucking cruel for all of them involved. selo just loves her granddaughter so much it breaks his heart enough to want death over seeing juli suffer being a servant instead of being the rich maiden, comfortable and well, that he had envisioned and wanted her to be…juli just loves her father so much that she tried all the plans and ideas she was offered just to earn money…juli just also loves basilio so much that she thinks she wouldn't be good enough for him but is at least comforted by the thought that she didn't sell the locket that he gave her as a sign of her loyalty….crying in the club rn. i understand why it's so frustrating at a logical standpoint tho because selling the locket would really really help them & basilio would give 0 fucks about the locket as long as juli and her family would be safe and well arrghhh I FEEL SO FRUSTRATED OVER IT AS WELL
juli slander INDEED literally she deserves so much better!! I WILL FIGHT ALL THE FUCKING FRIARS FOR HER
(another thing: do you think rizal forgot about sinang being really close friends with maria in the noli LMAOO bc the way he wrote sinang in this chapter has me raising eyebrows like sir. she was mc's cousin & bestie. we know it's been 13 years but come on…)
and they were supposed to arrest tales, as tales did commit murder but since he wasn't to be found they arrested tatang selo. (also Tales wasn't framed :( he intentionally left a trace behind because, well, vengeance. it's a sign and a threat to the authorities. :') )
i literally do not think there was any law out there at that time that states that they'd arrest another family member if the one who committed a crime wasn't present?? i mean i know like it was a colonization thing and the filipinos were heavily, heavily oppressed but i was thinking about if there were still any laws involved in this that i don't know about. does this make sense.
though granted the only thing we learned at school about laws in the spanish colonization era was the polo y servicio & nothing else, and to dive into the criminal laws in the Philippines in the 1800s at 12 AM is very tempting but i can't because i don't have the brain cells for it. i'm so sorry 😭 but even if that was validated by the law - which grants executions anyway?? actually??? and the system was GREATLY unjust and unfair towards Filipinos??? why is this mind-boggling sorry i'm very stupid HGSHGSHGAH - that was still unjust, tyrannic bullshit. and i wanna fucking fight simoun for being delighted at all literally fuck him
ANYWAY 😭 Simoun sold jewels there because that was the disguise he took on when he arrived in the country - he's a rich jeweler dude who tagged along to the Philippines because he's the Captain-General's closest friend (and the one who influences him to do bad shit, like what he details in ch7), now he's just. frolicking around. selling his stupid jewels when he knows most filipinos literally cannot afford his trinkets. a taunting figure of wealth and power just fucking shit up in the background
#DE DIOS FAMILY + BASILIO MY ABSOLUTE BELOVEDS !!! they deserved so much better :((#sorry for the little rants my brain is scattered this is what research does to me /j#but i miss screaming in here sm!! also gonna try to reread the books again this school break hsghgdjgdgaj i'm a lil rough in the fili now..#and omg it was peepaw rizal's birthday a day ago now too ^^ this bitch's soul really dragged me back in here#but now i'm having an existential crisis over criminal laws back then in the philippines...i wanna study it now#but it's also a headscratcher because do laws even apply for the filipinos. actually. especially to the poor??#i think they weren't granted easy access to the courts?? but to what extent??#how do courts work back then again actually. literally what. how.#was there even a system at work legally or are the filipinos just getting fucked over casually by the friars and authorities.#hashtag grabbing lands typical villar monday#hashtag murdering kids at tinola thursday#sorry this is so dumb of me HGGSHSGJAHGS#i need the DEETS though#why did the education system fail me like this i'm literally about to cry i want to know more about this#asks

Ooh can I ask Q4, Favourite dish specific for your country?
Hmm this is pretty hard, I like a lot of our food! I guess I'll pick Kaldereta, because I love potatoes! :3 (Here's a pic!)

It's one of my comfort foods! It's soooo good, I could eat it every day tbh. My second favourite is Sinigang, it's like a sour soup! And I ofc love adobo and pancit!! Oooh and Champorado (chocolate + rice)!!!
Not a dish but I like taho!!

It's sweet and yummy and cheap! :3 Mannn I miss taho, no one sells it in our place. There used to be a guy who'd carry the taho things and shout taho, but for some reason he's no longer here :( I also like sikwate(chocolate drink)!!! Lmao at this point I'll just be naming every Filipino food I know 😭
Uhh a Filipino food I HATE is kinilaw(raw fish dish) and paksiw(fish again). It tastes disgusting!!! And here's an unpopular food opinion that my siblings hate me for: I dislike fried rice. I think plain rice is more delicious.
Filipino street food I like is isaw (chicken intestines)!! I used to avoid it because it's intestines, but when I tried it it actually tasted good lol.
#Asks#Ask game#Food#I also love ube!!#Omg and durian#Durian probably exists in multiple countries tho#Omg and pandesal!! (bread)#And maja blanca!!!!#OMG I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT TINOLA!!!!#Tinola is one of my comfort foods too!!!#Tinola and Sinigang and Caldereta!!! They never fail to cheer me up#Tysm for the ask!!
