AITA- Miya Atsumu x Reader

Summary: Am I the asshole for falling in love with my volleyball team manager? They’re also my childhood friend and I accidentally ran away from them after kissing them after we won the finals…

Atsumu kisses his team manager on accident (he’s in love with them) and turns to reddit for help.

Rating: Teen (For language!)

Notes: Mainly from Atsumu POV, lmk if we ever want the reader’s POV, no pronouns or gender identifying characters used in regards to the reader! The ending is rushed idk where I was going with this.

A/n: Hi it’s been a while i’m in college now and recently rewatched haikyuu so expect things (possibly) from me this summer

Atsumu’s fingers hover above his phone keypad, glaring down at the blinking text cursor staring back up at him. He gnaws on his lip slightly, feeling the salty sweat from the days activities on his tongue.

He hadn’t meant for this to happen. He got caught up in the moment! It could happen to anyone, really!

One thing you know, you’re watching the ball hit the floor on the other side of the net. Heart pumping and ears ringing from the adrenaline and excitement of the successful setter dump. The poor, distraught faces staring up at him from across the net.

Atsumu promises he’s not a psychopath.

If anything, it was the cheers that erupted from the crowd, boosting his confidence and grinding his decision making skills lower than they already are (according to ‘Samu).

Heart pumping, his head whipped to the side, tunnel visioning on your bright smile from the sidelines. In fact, his feet moved without his consent, pulled by some invisible force dragging him to you.

Next thing he knows, he’s gathering your face in his hands, gently, a complete contradiction to the wild, vibrant, exhilarating emotions working their way through his body.

Atsumu’s eyes met yours, his tongue flicking out to wet his lips, then he was leaning in, then his eyes fluttered shut as he pressed his lips to yours.

He doesn’t even know if you closed your eyes.

And the kiss was… not like what he wanted his first kiss with you to be.

Sure, there were fireworks, and he’s been dreaming of this moment for years and years. And Atsumu thinks he could die in the next five minutes and die without any regrets. Then his eyes snap open, as realization pours over him like a bucket of ice water. Thinking about it now, Atsumu thinks the realization is more abrupt. Like a slap to the face, or like the time Osamu ripped his bandaid off his leg.

Within the mere seconds of eye contact and lip contact, Atsumu has four different realizations:

1. His mother was in the stands, watching her son kiss the kid she remembers from her sons’ childhood, always knocking on their door asking if “‘Tsumu and ‘Samu wanted to pass the volleyball around with them.

2. His team was probably watching him kiss their team manager. He would get an earful from Kita no matter what, and he would probably disappear in mysterious and ominous ways if they quit the manager position because of this.

3. He was sweaty. Almost obnoxiously so. The hands cupping your face? Disgusting. They were on the floor, touching the volleyball, slick with sweat, and somehow dry all at once. His face? Sweaty. His hair? Probably all messed up from sweat.

The fourth and final realization is arguably the most important:

4. The two of you were not dating. In fact, you had no idea of these feelings he had been harboring for you. And by kissing you, not only had he revealed these feelings, but possibly, completely ruined the almost 10 year friendship between the two of you.

All of these realizations poured over Atsumu like a bucket of ice water.

He pulls away from you, like he had been burned by the slight pressure on his lips. He stares at you for a moment, barely registering the commotion around the two of you.

And he bolts.

Atsumu realizes that he doesn’t care about going to nationals anymore, and instead only cares about getting to the furthest location from Gymnasium 1. His legs, of course, also do not care that he played five sets, and carry him all the way to his backpack, tucked in some stairway with everyone else’s gear, and into the bathroom. Slamming the door behind him.

He mutters a few curse words as he locks the door, staring at the empty row of stalls in front of him.

“I’m going to live out my life and die in this bathroom.” He groans out, burying his face in his (disgusting) hands.

He fishes his phone out of his backpack. He goes through a mental checklist of the people he knows and is willing to ask for advice about.

Atsumu draws a blank.

‘The internet will know.’ Atsumu thinks. It would be better for random strangers to counsel him.

He starts typing.

“Am I the asshole for running away from someone after kissing them?”

Atsumu thinks he’s an asshole, but maybe the internet sees the situation differently.

“I (17M) am in love with my high school volleyball team manager. We‘re childhood friends, and I remember loving them as love as I remember how the sun feels on my skin. This year we won all of our matches and quality to advance to spring nationals.

The last match we won had everyone really hyped. In the midst of the excitement, I kissed my manager. In front of everyone. And then I ran. Because I’m scared.

I’m currently hiding in the bathroom, because I don’t know what else to do, and I suppose my excitement got the best of me, but i’m not sure I can continue daily life knowing what the pressure of their lips against mine was. I want to confess but If it goes wrong, everything in my life gets impacted.

Did I ruin any chance at anything by running? It was kind of a dick move.

Thoughts?”

He posts it.

A minute later his phone lights up with a notification informing him of a response. Several responses.

“Yes, you’re an asshole. People need to use this bathroom.”

“It was mad funny”

“Please come out so we can talk.”

A cold sweat forms on his neck when he realizes it was his personal account he posted from. Rookie mistake.

If he does die, Atsumu would rather be in the doorway of the bathroom, rather than surrounded but the smells of different bodily…things.

He opens the door, smiling at you sheepishly.

“Hey, what brings you here?”

Your smile doesn’t reach your lips, and Atsumu sweats.

“Have something to say?” Your voice only serves to speed up the heart palpitations in his chest. Atsumu is even sure that if you were looking at his eyes, you would see them dilate in affection.

He’s making a noise, he realizes. Staring dumbly at your lips, an “um” sound occupying the space as he tries to gather his words and not think about how soft your lips were, or how he could basically taste the smile on your lips.

“I like you… and not in the way I should. I’ve been in love with you forever, and ‘Samu’s always on my case about it and I really don’t know what to do about it and you looked so pretty smiling there after we won and I dunno I just-“

Your lips are on his again, interrupting the word vomit spilling from his lips.

He melts, and his hands come up to grip your waist as his eyes flutter closed and he leans into the kiss.

And suddenly the pressure is gone, your eyes sparkling with mischief as you mumble against his lips, before dashing down the hall.

“I like you too.”

Atsumu’s quick to follow, feeling the burn of overworked muscle in his thighs, and listening to the sound of your laugh echo down the hall.

He guesses he’s not as big of an asshole as he thought.

9 Favorite TV Shows (that I don’t always talk about)

I got tagged by @blairwaldcrf​ - and am gonna take a page from their book, because this list is just always the same. So. Cutting out all the shows I always talk about anyway.

(The 9 that are on the obvious main list: Buffy, Relic Hunter, Leverage, Once Upon a Time, Shadowhunters, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Teen Wolf, Charmed)

These are in no particular order because it’d break my brain to actually rank them!

1. Community

One of my favorite comedies! It is so silly, but it is also very consistent - it does drop a little in the later seasons, but I love the originality of the show in the overall.

2. The Nanny

My all-time favorite comedy show. I used to rewatch all the re-runs. One of the down-sides of streaming is that you no longer just... end up watching reruns (also so much content, no real time for casual rewatches, I should make the time for another rewatch). Will they/won’t they rom-coms all around the world want what Max and Fran had. Jealous bitches want to be CC but never will be. No butler has ever sassed like Niles.

3. Hustle

I love this show a lot! It is severely underrated! It’s if Leverage was a band of British bastards who steal for themselves and break the fourth wall. I love them a lot. I think everyone who loves Leverage should go and watch Hustle too, honestly. It’s about the found family and the con.

4. Grey’s Anatomy

Listen, this show isn’t perfect, it has flaws, but anything that has run for 19 years has to have flaws. But I love it so much - and the friendship between Cristina and Meredith is quite frankly absolutely amazing. The way they prioritize each other, and the way their partners accept that? And so many more things I love about this show.

5. Stargate SG-1

Genuinely my favorite scifi show. It is so well-written with such compelling characters and arcs and just genuinely so funny, it has no right to still hold up so well and be that funny - and I’m saying that as someone who didn’t grow up on it and only discovered it a couple years ago.

6. Recess

My comfort cartoon from my childhood. I loved this as a kid so very, very much and it still brings me a lot of joy and warm childhood memories to rewatch.

7. Kekkai Sensen

I can’t explain this one. I hate blood/violence in anime, I usually skip these parts. I don’t know. But I have so much love for this anime. I regularly find myself rewatching it because I love it so much (though also, admittedly, due to its short length. Can’t casually pop in a full rewatch of One Piece).

8. Kuroko no Basuke

Favorite of the sports anime! An absolute classic. The color-coded basketball monster boys! It also masters length quite well, to be honest? Many either stretch out the length of games far too long (side-eyeing later seasons of Haikyuu), or more recent anime that just... cut everything so very short and speedrun through it all a little too much? I think KnB has the right balance to stretch it out but keep you in suspense.

9. Shadow & Bone

And you know what! Another ongoing show, beside Grey’s. I really do love SaB a lot, what can I say. I’m weak for flawed fantasy shows with great characters.

my roman empire is the change in the animation style between the first three seasons and the fourth one. they, against popular belief, did not need noses thank you. everything used to be so soft and lovely and i'm not saying it isn't now but i'm kinda saying it

now the shiratorizawa match it's so so so so so amazing i love it one of my favourites for sure, although i say that about lowkey every official match, but it's a share sentiment i'm sure. also very nerve wracking regardless of the many times i've seen it. season three you will be missed

LAST SONG 🔹 I was gonna say Lonely by R.M. but I forgot I watched a bit of the Legally Blonde musical after that so I think it's actually Whipped Into Shape from Legally Blonde the musical. Those two are wildly different songs but Callahan's verse in whipped into shape is so damn good, i listen to just that section all the time. Lonely on the other hand, I don't listen to all that often because I generally prefer Change prt 2 but it's a really great song on and if I hear it once, it ends up being on repeat for the rest of the day.

LAST MOVIE 🔹 Like telomeke, the last movie that I watched (or atleast remember watching) is a tamil film. It's Mersal. Though I could be getting the order of events wrong and it's actually KGF prt 2 which is a Kannada film. I've lately been in a show vibe so I haven't been watching film unless it's with other people so either way the last one was either Mersal or KGF 2. I lowkey forgot Vijay had a triple role in Mersal, I thought it was only a double role. Plot's watchable enough but the songs are where it's at. This movie's soundtrack was a hit when it came out and I still have the entire soundtrack on my spotify. KGF 2 is only good if you turn your brain off and don't take it too seriously. The background music is spectacular though. And the outfits. I spend the entire almost 3 hour runtime rating Rocky's looks. (man's not afraid to wear a full pink suit ok, definition of nontoxic masculinity /jk)

CURRENTLY READING 🔹 Well, I just finished Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies by Seth Holmes and ofc y'all know i'm on my Haikyuu!! re-read of which I am on volume 8 if notes are to be believed. However, I am miserably failing because the original idea was to read it in chronological order and NOT skip ahead but I have no self-control and keep re-reading bits. Like just the other day, I read the ball-boy arc which led to me reading the Spring Tournament arc and now we're on the last bit of the Kamomedai match and- It's fine though. It's going.

like i wanna get through this shit before my hyperfixation dies, but also this anime still makes me Feel Things that make me need to take breaks and let it sink in (as if this isn't my fourth rewatch)

2022 & i rewatched the haikyuu anime and as much as i enjoy it like.. can i be real. Why the fuck did shimizu marry tanaka at the end of this series.. she has the narrative power of a chandelier, brother..

we were with her for 3 whole seasons and then in the middle of the fourth one the author decided to like give her a backstory… her character really doesnt have a strong presence at all and she feels more like an ‘image’ of the virgin mary for adoration/inspiration or a trophy or whatever.. wtf. Like even the third years treat her with a weird sense of distance. Like okay girl you washed a banner once and went to get a guy his sneakers.. and used to do sports but now shes in the sidelines… and i guess has scratches on her legs from falling during hurdling.

Hachi has bizarre anxiety and panic, she got into the scene as a first-year, got over her issues with her mum, helped hinata and kageyama study, talks to them and to yamaguchi as friends, and as soon as she became a manager she helped the team earn money thru donations thanks 2 a poster SHE MADE.. why is shimizu so weak as a character by comparison? All we know abt this girl is that shes Beautiful and Shy. Yamato Nadeshiko type shit fr ughhhh

like i thought adding Hachi to the team would make shimizu into a more proactive character, but she just kind of stays the same and talks to hachi because shes a younger girl. Like what. if she was your age you wouldnt talk to her? Ok pussy bitch? Wtf man why not use this chance to develop this character we’ve been stuck with as an audience for such a long time…??

I really liked kanoka in general and we were with her for a grand total of 4 episodes… plus her backstory with tanaka makes a lot of sense, and he even admires her as a player. Kanoka managed to grow as a person thanks to tanaka, and also got into volleyball because of him! Its a very sweet story. Because of this, I get even more reasons to not understand tanaka’s and shimizu’s relationship as endgame. it feels so shallow and stupid.. ok tanaka pursued this beautiful upperclassman of his, but she had ZERO interest in him, and his crush felt like comic relief… nishinoya was there too lol. Bro SUGAWARA had more meaningful interactions with shimizu wtf.. 

Like tanaka did say like "oh should i just pursue this girl because i have a chance?!" as in "shimizu is a challenge and i set my eyes on her" like okay but AS AN AUTHOR WHY WOULD U MAKE THEIR RELATIONSHIP SO SHIT.... BRO!

Hi! Follow along as I rewatch Haikyuu!

Hi! I recently finished my fourth (yes, fourth) rewatch of Haikyuu and I realized that each time I've watched it I have learned and understood more about each of the characters and themes that are important to the show. As I begin my fifth rewatch (yes, fifth) I thought it would be fun to write my thoughts and analysis after each episode!

Haiykuu was the first anime that I watch and the first manga that I completed. I am never NOT watching haikyuu lol. It's my comfort show. As I watched and rewatched the show I have changed as a person and my understanding of the characters and the show as a whole has changed and gotten deeper. It is hard for me to casually consume a piece of media, esp one as good as haikyuu. So if I'm going to watch it again, I think it would be interesting to keep a record of it this time.

I think I will mostly focus on the characters and their relationships with each other and with themselves and, of course, with volleyball along with the different teams and their dynamics. Not sure how deep or how profound this will actually be, maybe it will end up being more of a brain dump. Either way it will be fun to read back!

Honestly though, I'm just rewatching Haikyuu!!🏐 as one does (but this is only the third or fourth time I've rewatched the first few episodes; usually I start later at the end of the training arc in season 2: Gears) and I'm just living in the little moments. They make me so happy. I love everything about this show. Every smile and side glance, every funny comment. The way the characters interact so naturally. Just their absolute love for the game. I love everything about this show, it makes me so happy. It's truly serotonin for the soul💞💞💞.

I feel like people being unapologetically themselves makes it easier for other people to be themselves, but also, just seeing the happiness that all these characters get from the sport, how much they love it, and how open they are about loving it makes it easier for me to express my happiness about things I love 🥰

Everything thing Tanaka says is gold, pure gold💛. Everything.

And Suga, I just love him so much and Daichi ❤️❤️❤️, and... I've seen the way too many third-year videos on tiktok, because I love them & I miss them and they're not even gone yet 😭❤️❤️❤️

This rewatch is 5 episodes in and I'm getting hit really hard with feelings about the upperclassmen. The first couple times I was really into the plot, the second time was totally the first years and other teams (especially during the training camp) and now, at this point I just miss and appreciate the second and third-years all the time. I can't get enough of the upperclassmen.

I am not guaranteeing daily posts I just wanna get some thoughts out so I can actually cement my experiences in time. so:

went to a warehouse to fill out an application and got suddenly interviewed by 4 people at once which wasn't nerve wracking at all hahahaha ha

may or may not have botched the only interview I have gotten in the past 9 months when they asked "what kind of jobs have you been looking for until now" and I said "teaching." teaching. Why did I say that to people who want to know if I can move boxes from one location to another

haha h a please gibe me this job I can't be a cashier again... I'm not... strong enough

I have been rewatching Haikyuu (again...this is my third go-around. fourth? who even knows at this point) while on voice call with @senseless-dinosaur-violence, who is watching it for the first time, and her reactions have been bringing me a great deal of joy

we just wrapped up season 2 and in the second-to-last episode I literally heard her jump out of her seat screaming. so like. I'd say it's going well

except for the technical difficulties we have experienced literally every day for the past week

first her headphones wouldn't work. then Hulu Party wouldn't work so we switched to crunchyroll. then discord screenshare wouldn't work. then her headphones wouldn't even connect. THEN crunchyroll started lagging, causing us to fall out of sync every 3 minutes. then my browser crashed and my computer forced an update.

ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED SEPARATELY, ON SEPARATE DAYS

we are literally hanging on by a prayer and the "3, 2, 1, go" method. please send thoughts and prayers our way as we attempt to navigate season 3 in this difficult time

oh and

"Stone Cold Coup d'Etat" by They Might Be Giants has been periodically stuck in my head ever since the. well yknow. please listen to it and laugh with me at the absurdity of the world

It cooled down even more😌 but it still hasn't started storming🥺. I lost count of my books. It's nothing close to my best friends, the each have like between 150-200😂 but still a few. You can never have enough books😌 wait oml how did you hurt your knee?? Is it okay again?? 🥺. And I get that yeah😂 did you watch Atypical?? Because I love that show. Oh and do you watch anime? Because I've been rewatching Haikyuu for the fourth time now😂 also I need peoples opinions on Tower of God and Black Cover definitely not because I stan skz and love txt who did the openings for those, no.

I love skating with friends. I have a skateboard but I prefer my longboard ngl. Or just going on walks and talk for hours🥰. Just laying in the sun and reading is also a big one💀. I love going swimming but I don't really do that often enough. We also have a pingpong table in our backyard so we play a lot of pingpong😂. I can't really think of anything else rn but there's probably more lmaooo. How about you? :)
