Gotham Is Sentient my HC:

Bruce actually talks to her. Like out loud. It freaks people who cant see her tf out

She doesn't actually have a real form per se, its more like a vibe, but she has gentle, slender hands and a sharp nose and long dark black hair. Thats the most defining features. Also she doesn't like walking and kinda floats over his shoulder like a weird ass angel and devil type shit

She does call herself Bruce’s mother. Bruce doesn't not reciprocate the title and she is mad about it “stop denying me parental rights!!”

She also doesn't take so kindly to alfred for a plethora of reasons, but does not voice them because Bruce doesn't like it

Every single one of the batkids can see her (eventually) but they thought he was crazy and sometimes still pretend they cant just to fuck with him- especially if a new kid is around Dick: Bruce who are you talking to? Bruce: Gotham??? Dick what do you mean she’s right here? Dick: Bruce… what are you talking about? Bruce: I know you can see her Dick don’t fuck with me- Newly Robin Jason: *slowly backing away*

The kids do call her Grandma on occasion

Steph was the first to see her and chatted with her before she even met Bruce

All the other kids see her because they’re extensions of Bruce

When the Watchtower is at the just right angle she can appear there too, otherwise she’s confined to just Gotham

Bludhaven does not have a spirit because its a new city and doesn't have all the curse and shit gotham does- also its new and hasn't had enough time to build a spirit- but Gotham has already named her- “of course its going to be a woman Richard, no useless man city will ever claim you.” “... I am a man Gotham.” “hush child don't remind me” 

Anyway she holds that against Dick but he always “buys” his way back into her good graces when he visits with trinkets or a new flip or smth "you fold so quickly" "shut up Bruce don't talk to your mother like that- he brought me a bracelet!" "you dont have arms"

Bruce did the “I don't have a mom. Or a dad.” “im right here!” “Sometimes i can still hear her voice…” because Dick forced him to and its the only time he has ever even mildly consented to having her be called his mom

Bruce is mostly human because of her. Mostly. He discovers this fact once when talking to Clark and the hero goes like “i still can’t believe you do this and you’re human.” *said with horror disgust and awe* and Gotham laughed awkwardly and went “wellllll…”

Stephanie is her golden child and while she adores Bruce he is her gorgeous baby prince, she will take Steph’s side on almost every matter just to annoying

Dick first saw her when he put Zucco in prison and didn't kill him Bruce: *proud Dick made the right choice* Dick: *staring at him in horror* Bruce: *turns to look around* what? Dick: *horrified that Bruce isn't actually insane* theres a woman floating next to your head… Gotham: *delighted!* he can see me!

Once they see her they can never stop. Its lovely and also horrible. 

Jason first saw her when he was running away from Bruce after nailing him in the dick with a socket wrench when they first met Jason: Ya big boob! Bruce: *loosing it with laughter* Gotham: *wiping away tears* Jason: *what the fuuuuckkk* why is there a lady here? Gotham: *delighted!* already!!?!?!?! Ohhh Richard is not going to be happy about this

Tim first saw her about a month into Robin, for no special reason at all really, he and Bruce were just chilling on a roof and he leaned against Bruce’s side and pop a woman appeared next to him, watching the sunrise with him and he was like !!!!! and she was like !!!!!!!!!! and yeah

Cass met her a second before she met Bruce, hunched in an alleyway, and she cocked her head at her like a cat, Gotham mirrored it, and then Bruce dropped from the sky 

Gotham has been with Bruce since before his parents died but before Batman she appeared as different like…vibes and it takes Bruce like solid years into being Batman to realize this Bruce: *!!!!* Gotham: what.. Bruce: you! You were that random thing I saw floating around the house!! Gotham: *sliding away casually* whaaaaat? Bruce: Don't you fucking dare- I thought I was insane! My parents were a hair away from calling a doctor for me! Gotham: how do you claim not to be insane- Bruce: *!!!!* You!!!!!

Babs met her after she had already retired Batgirl, one slow day as Oracle Babs: alright Batman, that should be the last of them, the signal is off, head home Bruce: copy that, thank you O. Oh i forgot- when she appears in the Watchtower Bruce flinches every time because she just materializes and shes the only thing/person/whatever that can actually sneak up on him successfully. It always freaks every hero nearby the fuck out because whatjustscaredthebatomgwhat- and so she specifically does it when hes in the middle of meetings. The kids think its hilarious. Bruce is not amused

I LOVE MATCHMAKING AN ALREADY TOGETHER COUPLE it’s soooo cute, especially when it’s kids… they just want their silly oblivious adult to be happy (they don’t know he already is). Kon getting to see Tim mentoring a bunch of kids. Reminiscing about their yj days. Tim shocking them by just how many heroes he’s familiar with who respect him. CUTE!!!

YEAH!!! bc like, tim is just by nature an intensely private guy. he hasnt mentioned that hes happily married bc why would he. it isnt relevant hes just here to train these guys in nonpowered combat and gadgetry and such and to mentor them on missions at their skill level, etc. his personal life is on a need to know basis by default. (incidentally, he's also a great listener because he's such a steel trap. he's got like 5 different angles on whatever teenage drama is going on in their lives. he will not be intervening unless as a last resort. why would he.) he's very personable and good with them (yeah he's awkward yeah he puts his foot in his mouth now and then yeah he goes how do you do fellow kids. but like. hes a people person and they love him) but he just doesnt really talk about himself much.

and YEAH kon loves to see it <3 i also really love to think about kon mentoring a lil baby telekinetic in how to use and exercise their powers. hes teaching them to crochet and then knit and slowly expanding the number of moving pieces they can control at once. some of tim's kids are at least a little jealous because supernova is soooo cool but also like theyre Fiercely defensive of tim. thats THEIR scrungly but hypercompetent weird guy. HES REALLY COOL TOO OKAY. ignore that he just said "get pwned" after defeating 4 of them at once at a spar. he didnt say that. they dont know what you mean.

but YEAH overall its just cute :> good vibes. a romcom but like theyre already married. the comedy is the kids discovering that they are in fact already married. they confront tim one day like tim. we KNOW you have a crush on mr. kon-el!!! and tim's like. completely flabbergasted. you think i What??? and theyre like. WE CAN TELL, TIM. YOURE NOT SLICK. and tim just stares at them for a minute

Also as for music headcanons I haven't really thought about it very much, but I can tell you what I have thought about and honestly I have no explanations. I am going completely off of vibes.

Tim we know is into like new wave post-punk. Joy Division, Devo, ect. Idk I don't listen to him when he talks. Going more into head canon realm I would also include like new wave gothic. The cure, siouxsie and the banshees, like 70-90's type alt. Huge music snob.

I feel Masky would have a different taste, same kind of era but heavier and more industrial. Rammstein, Nine inch Nails, maybe even DC punk type shit, minor threat, black flag, dead Kennedys, decendents. Suicidal tendencies idk

Brian and hoodie honestly I don't see as big music people, brian I can see being very into like synth pop, or like... I don't know how to describe what I'm thinking. I think tiktok was calling it dream core or like goblin core or something. That's what I imagine brian listening to LMFAO. Like jack stauber, vundabar, I dont know how but the found me, maybe a sprinkle of mother mother. Tbh I literally can't imagine hoodie listening to music LOL. As for toby. Honestly. I feel like he just listens to the same exact things as me. It just feels RIGHT. But when hes not all up in his own head he'd be into the classics. My chem, peirce the veil, sleeping with sirens, you know what I mean by classics. i agree the vibes of that bts scene were off but becausese thats the scene they chose to release (literally who do i have to pay to get the fucking karaoke scene fuck you tim), we're probably getting more of their relationship in s8. like it was a weird scene dont get me wrong but i dont know that it was intended to make tommy look bad (even tho it absolutely did) i just think its a bad sign that they chose it above literally anything else.

ok first of all? no slenderman in this universe. its my au and i get to make my blorbos (somewhat) happy BUT the operator is still one of tims hallucinations that hes been having since he was a kid. tim writes songs to cope with his mental illness, he's done this his whole life but hes never shared any of them w anyone. skip to film school (maybe i should change their major to be music so it makes more sense that theyre all into it? unsure. anyways). alex has been looking to start a band but hasnt been putting a lot of effort into people searching cause hes focused on school. and one night — maybe on a dare, maybe because he's had a couple of drinks —  tim performs a song about the operator. everyones taken aback cause they didnt know the guy very well but they really like the song. alex goes woah ive been looking to start a band actually?? and kind of drags along everyone in the room to a first rehearsal it goes surprisingly well, everyone clicks and the music sounds great. since theyre all living in dorms and using the practice studio on campus theyre able to get together usually a few times a week, and they hang out outside of it too. they become really close friends. most of the songs are still tims old material but they write stuff together too. brian has some killer ideas and eventually they end up with enough material that matches in vibes to release their first album: "To The Ark". its a massive project, 38 songs.. YEAH THATS RIGHT each one is named after a totheark video. it also makes sense because tim 'wrote' a lot of them and brian the others. im a genius tell me im a genius. also maybe clips from it are the music videos for the songs? or clips from mh too i like the idea of that. idk its released in three parts (for the three seasons) and "Operator" (THE SONG TIM PLAYED FOR THEM FIRST BTW) becomes a radio hit out of nowhere. by this time theyre reaching graduation so its time to discuss the future of the band!! theres a big scene where theyre each thinking abt what they want for the future but they end up deciding they want to keep it together and see where it leads them :) so they go on tour together and are super successful and umm happily ever after. thats as far as ive thought LOL also theyre all gay and trans just like in canon <3/hj. so maybe theres love triangle stuff?? but i dont really have any fav pairing in this scenario since the dynamics are different.. idk give me ideas pleas. and if anyone drew them i would piss myself and cry OH ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION all the alter ego things are like stage personas in this. i think thats probably apparent in the first image but yeah. they go on stage and introduce themselves as that and wear the masks for performances. idk why alex and jessica go without one maybe ill design them masks too but that feels weird

Hello again! I've actually written the down some of my "Jason and the Spraypaint 'Thief'" idea tho its mostly scaffolding and i dont feel ready to share it just yet, but progress is being made!

If I may ask for your advice once more, the story has begun leaning towards Anger Management vibes (thanks for that brainrot too (affectionate)), but i dont feel great that the genesis of Jason and Jazz meeting is after Jason basically stalks Jazz in his hunt for whoever is buying his spraypaint before he can. Like, she is the one buying the paint, but the dynamic feels too onesided atm in terms of agency, but idk what Jazz would be doing that could parallel Jason.

The best Ive got is she tried to find out who bought out the yarn she was knitting with (it was Jason being petty), but I dont think she'd care as much as Jason does with the paint and it also feels too samey.

...Just had this thought while writing this, would it vibe with Jazz's character if she kept tabs on the Batfam for Danny? Like in terms of location. Ive got it that Danny dosnt want anything to do with the Batfam atm, Gothem is their turf fighting-wise and he dosnt want to encroach on that (tho he does help people in need when he comes across them), he just wants to make cool art in weird places (and maybe some ghost king stuff, not sure on that just yet) (maybe as a coping mechanism bc I do like the angst that comes from 'Danny leaves Amity bc the Fentons reactly badly to him being a halfa', tho still not sure how he gets into spraypaint yet, that feels like an important detail), so Jazz keeps tabs on their patrols for Danny so he can spraypaint without drawing their attention, and then Jazz notices Red Hood acting a bit odd and does her own investigating to make sure its not ghost business (she would know that RH has ghost vibes from Danny and his current spraypaint investigating behaviour maybe looks like a ghost obsession without context), and maybe she ends up pulling a Tim and figures out Red Hood is Jason, just due to ghost vibes instead of acrobatics.

I havent even gotten to them actually meeting in my planning yey, its just discovery eachother from afar and general thoughts of 'thats the person Im looking for, they're kinda cute' so far. Current vauge idea is they meet in a fight, tho i might be biased bc i did recently reread 'cant help falling (in love with you)' (i think i said this before, but amazing story btw, eagerly waiting for the next chapter!)

I see what you mean about there being a power imbalance in their meeting situation - but we have to be aware that the source material is like that. Jason is a crime fighter and a vigilante and also a very extra boy. He is petty and arrogant and sometimes he is not above using his skills for personal use.

You can make it so she knows what's going on and leads him in a wild goose chase just for funsies. Make Jazz petty as well. Make her highly competent. Make her win in his own game and boom, no more power imbalance. (Also that can be a cool "I need to know more of this woman" kind of situation.)

Another alternative, is making her think he is stalking her for unsavory purposes and beat the shit out of him.

I like what you said about Jazz being the one that keep tabs on all the vigilantes. She could have profiled them all, studied their patterns, and Tim Drake her way into memorizing their patrol routes so Danny can paint in peace.

So that's why when her new stalker starts bothering her, she is so Done(tm) that she is not afraid to gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss her way into making him stop.

How she does it? Dealer's choice.

(I'm weak to the fight approach, if it wasn't obvious (✿◡‿◡) )

(But outsmarting him could work as well.)

So in conclusion I think if you want to not fall into icky power imbalances and not fall into highly competent Mary Sues tropes, the sweet spot would be Jazz making the choice to take act or not, and base it on actual conflict: If she can't just beat the shit out of him, explain why. If she is not going to make a deal out of it, explain why. Make the character have agency and a choice in the matter, even if that choice is inaction.

he took a cowl laced with bad luck and made it his own, renewing it if you will

he was just a rendition of past robins and truly flourished as himself under Red Robin because robin never really belonged to him

2000-most of season 1 (jon-13, martin/sasha/tim-14, georgie/melanie-15, basira-17, daisy/gerry19)

2002-most of season 3 (jon-15, martin/sasha/tim-16, etc) --> jon hits his growth spurt over the summer because thats literally the funniest shit.

2003-most of season 4 (jon-16, martin/sasha/tim-17, etc)

gertrude and jons grandmother are both still alive, as well as gerry and maybe some other characters

in terms of vibe - jon definitely is becoming a monster, and theres still trauma and the fears and no love entities, but i think the stakes being as high as they are and them being kids means that. the punishments for fucking up (in order to maintain the pjo/artemis fowl vibe) are like. kind of lower? but not much? i just feel bad about being like. yeah tim fully explodes when he’s 17 lmfao but then i remember that ethan nakamura fully fell off the empire state building so! it be like that i guess for them

in terms of how everything happens. tl;dr - jon is five years out from mr spider, and in my mind he would be like absolutely fixated on it. 

some changes to canon, maybe elias figures gertrude out way earlier, actually looks into her head, and is like fuck me i gotta get a new archivist. and then he runs into jon somehow and is like Oh A Gift From The Web (like an idiot) and is like :) hey kid would you like to know more about mr spider and jon is like uh yeah of course?

and then he starts sending (feeding) jon statements that implicate gertrude as a compatriot of leitner’s. so jon believes gertrude to be like the bbg wrongly.

daisy is still a hunter but she and basira aren’t cops. daisy is the oldest at 19 (other than 30-40yo elias, 50ishyo gertrude, and jons teta), gerry a close second also at 19, and basira is 17. daisy maybe has some weird vigilante monster hunting thing kind of like canon, maybe she still tries to Get Jon, but after the buried (do i really wanna make 16yo jon go into the buried. Yeah) they have like a very sibling like relationship!!! ;;

also gerry!!! older brother vibe gerry!!! yeeeaaaahhhhh!!!!

georgie isnt jons ex but they ARE childhood friends maybe jon had little a crush on him :’0

martin and jon i think would have a better start, but jon would still be a really snarky kid and martin would have an even worse starting self esteem. i think he would just be really hard to get in touch with bc of his home life but he still does retcon and b&e for the squad dksjfhdskjh anyway same timeline as canon

obviously the adults have a more malicious presence when they interact with straight up kids. i dont know how i feel about that but i havent thought about it extensively

basically i love angst

best statememts: season 1

s1 has the scariest statements, especially since the first time u listen to it u dont have any info on wtf is going on yet. once the Lore comes in everything starts to make sense and i love that but it Does make it less scary for me

and i mean. the anatomy class?? jane prentiss' statememt?? lost johns' cave??? those are some A+ statements

could also be in part bc in later seasons i paid attention to the meta story wayyy more (since theres just more of it) and the statements just kind of became a background thing for me later on

some statements in s5 are also REALLY good though, especially the spiral doctor david, the plague village, the meat garden and the one with gertrude and gerry

best meta story: season 3

this is sooo hard

i love all of their meta stories too much to decide completely

but i had to choose 😔

i just love how in s3 you start to piece things together and jon is getting superpowers and hhhh its just so fucking good

theres just. some real connections between the statements and jon meets avatars and elias' bullshit gets a Little bit revealed and then u get gerry's info and you THINK you have it all together but you really DONT

best character interaction: season 3/5

this is a full tie i canNot choose that

both of them have rly nice interactions with The Team but ALSO v nice interactions with avatars, which the rest of the seasons dont have that much

for the Team, they never Really do full teamwork ever but i think in s3 they got the closest to it, especially after the elias confrontation with everyone. especially the parts with tim and jon but also everything about melanie's & daisy's interactions with jon is just. chefs kiss.

and in s5 obviously jon & martin interact with everyone on The Team thats still alive (which it Should since its the last season tbh) and its just so nice that after s4 they were all talking and being rational abt things. love that.

and with the avatars, s3 is i think the first to introduce them as more than Those Weird Evil/Monster people since jon is becoming literally one of them. and theres sooo many cool interactions, i mean jude, mike crew, nikola, michael, daisy again, etc etc its just so fucking cool

and again same goes for s5, they interact with avatars and talk to them like theyre extremely fucked up people but still people and its soo cool. in the earlier parts of the season its also cool to see jon literally distance himself from the avatars again by killing them (only to fail by becoming to pupil oof).

i think with that i might rank s3 a bit higher than s5 actually, just because i loooove the angst of jon talking to these people he thought were monsters before thinking hes becoming like them. im SO here for the angst lmao

yess s5 had the most Actual canon jonmartin and it has them working through problems together and being in love but like. im always a slut for mutual pining and angst

i knowwwww martin Literally kills jon in s5 and yes it did make me cry. BUT.

one of my ABSOLUTE favourite tropes in any media whatsoever is betrayal. any kind of it (except cheating that just sucks). i love it when characters go evil. i love it when they do sth fucked up they shouldnt have. and i ESPECIALLY love the way other characters react to it

i mean theres a reason why hannibal is one of my favourite shows (& why 6x20 is my favourite spn episode but shh)

and s4 has soooo much of that.

i dont rly get the story of s4 tbh its mostly just dealing w the end of s3 for me and thats not doing much for me tbh idk

and i feel so bad for jon because he was literally manipulated into everything but FUCK all those scenes where he has to confront What hes become, and especially the episode with the statement from the woman he met irl and took a statement from.

it hurts but its SO good

im very very glad all that was resolved and apologized for and everything, that actually kind of makes the actual season even better for me since i know its temporary but its still ANGST

best lore: season 3/5

another tie 😔 cant decide between worldbuilding lore and monster lore

s3 definitely has the most worldbuilding lore with all the avatars and rituals and all that. i mean gerry literally gives so much lore in his episode i cant ignore that

its just so nice after so many episodes to FINALLY get some actual information

but also s5 has lore on the actual fears behind the stuff that got explained in s3 so thats ALSO a thing.

season 3. best meta story, best lore & best character interaction. just. yea this one is my favourite

season 4. best angst & best jonmartin. i can barely remember the meta story for that season, i dont think there was rly one outside of dealing w the end of s3? but the angst & jonmartin easily make up for that

season 5. best lore & characters + one of best statement seasons. i didnt add that category but also immaculate vibes. its lowkey tied with s4 too but Monster!Jon is just too good not to rank it in 2nd place

season 1. best statements and also immaculate vibes. this is 100% the scariest season and i rly like that abt it. it doesnt have much of a story yet which makes sense (no lighter for automatic tapes yet 😔) and theres less characters which means i cant put it much higher but when it Does happen its Great

season 2. its definitely good and the supplementals are hilarious but its not on the same level for me as the other seasons. maybe thats just me but i also feel like s2 should have introed jon becoming an avatar more since i already got spoiled but jon asking leitner if hes "one of them" still lowkey came out of the blue for me. plus his character changed so much to the beginning of s3 i was legit shocked to find out in ep 81 that jon was younger than 50 lmao. it IS still a v good season though!!!

Pointing out everything wrong (and right) with the 2016 Rocky Horror Picture Show, both my own opinion and actually compared to the original

I typed these as it was happening so they are all my first thoughts

Wrong: They didn’t have the iconic lips singing at the beginning.

Right: Ryan McCartan is Brad.

Wrong: It’s more modern.

Wrong: It’s too clean.

Right: They seem to have kept the original songs, and they gave credit to my boi for the shit.

Wrong: Riff Raff and Magenta didn’t sing the “Janet” and “Oh Brad” parts in the first song.

Right: Tim Curry is in this.

Wrong: They try too hard to talk like the right time period. It sounds unrealistic.

They way Riff looks at him and acts, and he looks at Rocky with a burning hatred in his eyes when rocky is with Frank’n’Futer. It’s weird. I’ll provide evidence in another post, and when I do I’ll link it here]

[Riff seems more sensitive. He has more raw emotions. Like he gets really excited and overly excited and he gets scared. In the og if I remember correctly he didn’t have as much emotion as Reeve does.]

Wrong: In the og it was Riff, Magenta and Columbia singing the backup vocals, not the entire ensemble.

Wrong: Casting Adam Lambert as Eddie was not a great choice. I love Adam Lambert but Eddie doesn’t fit him at all.

Wrong: Eddie is stabbed and falls out the window instead of being chopped up in a freezer.

Wrong: They really oversexualized this movie. It was already sexual but they really bumped it up a lot.

[Okay here’s something. In the original movie I don’t think they ever say Riff’s name? And they never say he’s magenta’s brother in the actual movie. But in this one they do. To quote “Oh magenta I’m so great full for you and your brother Riff Raff”]

Wrong: Columbias singing voice is wrong.

Right: Ryan McCartan is really good as Brad. His voice is perfect.

Right: The girl that plays Janet isn’t bad

Wrong: there’s a band in the iconic radio thingy scene.

Wrong: Frank’n’Furter is a male or genderqueer presenting fem with male pronouns. The girl that played him is good and I think, again, as an adaptation it’s good. But not accurate to the original movie, that’s why I’m putting it as a wrong.

[Brad kissed Rocky...? Brad??? Brad?!]

Wrong: There’s too many people in the ending song. It should just be Columbia Rocky Brad Janet Frank’n’Furter and Dr Scott, then Riff and Magenta at the end, not the entire ensemble.

Wrong and right???: Riff is a lot more sensitive. He has more motivation to kill them because they always hurt him when he just wanted them to like him.

Right: Magenta and Riff do a little time warp reprise

Wrong: They should end the movie when Riff and Megenta leave, not with a final song from Brad and Janet
