Hi Naneth! Do you know and/or play D&D? So...I've recently started playing it and got addicted to the game (surprisingly for someone who's always been a bookworm than a gamer hehe), and now I can't help but be curious what would the Thranduillions (maybe bonus Thranduil and his wife?) be like as D&D characters (or what kind of characters would they create and play as during D&D sessions)? Ooooh, now I wonder what a Thranduillion D&D session would look like XD!

Omg it's amazing that you asked me this question, because literally just this morning I was chatting with my sister about her starting to play tabletop D&D with her old college buddies! I said to her, "Man I'm jealous and I wish I could join in, but I would just be so lost and confused and annoying because I'll need everything explained to me multiple times." XD My sister is also trying to get me to play BG3, and although it's really, really tempting, I'm afraid even venturing into that would take up what little free time I have left!

Anyway, going into your question that I LOVE so much, about what the Thranduilions would be like if they had a D&D session. Using my limited knowledge of the actual gameplay, it would go something like this:

The Royal House of Greenwood Plays Dungeons & Dragons

Characters Chosen

Everyone in the family prefers to play Elves but sometimes may choose a Half-Elf, Human, Dwarf, or Halfling. Legolas may dare to try controversial classes (i.e. dragonborn, half-orc), but only when their parents aren't playing.

Mirion: Barbarian. Values Strength.

Turhir: Paladin. Values Constitution.

Arvellas: Wizard. Values Wisdom.

Gelir: Ranger. Values Dexterity.

Legolas: Druid. Values Wisdom.

Thranduil: Rogue. Values Dexterity.

Maereth: Bard. Values Charisma.

How They Would Play

The family likes to run the campaign as a group that quests together, rather than individuals, so they work together as a team.

Arvellas is the Dungeon Master mostly because he wrote the guide books and has by far the most organized brain among the brothers. He's also the calmest, most patient, and can keep his brothers in line in case things descend into chaos.

Legolas was the ringleader who initiated the idea to start/play this game in the first place. He begged and helped Arvellas to create the game books, with Arvellas wrangling Legolas's wild enthusiasm and all-over-the-place ideas into brilliant manuals. Legolas also crafted the dice, miniatures, and game boards himself, and he always has the most elaborately detailed character sheets.

Mirion is not much for this sort of game but is absolutely happy to humor Legolas and spend time with his family. Barely knows what is going on and essentially just follows what Legolas tells him he "has" to do. His character is often first to get injured or in trouble, but he laughs it off. Is eating an unholy amount of snacks the entire time.

Turhir is the tactical genius who thinks of creative ways to solve problems and defeat opponents. Mostly does his thing to keep the quest going and everyone alive, but also gives advice regarding combat tactics when asked. Is quietly the MVP of the campaign.

Gelir is just really annoyed by the concept of dice controlling his fate and blames lousy dice rolls a lot. Protests and argues against the "logic" of difficulty checks. Heckles any of his brothers who "mess up" (in his opinion). Chooses courses of action based on what's flashiest instead of what's wise. (He's much more strategic in real life, but this is a GAME. Plus he likes to mess with Legolas.)

Thranduil picks up on the game super quickly despite having the least experience. Frequently leaves the table to attend to crown business (or grab more wine). Assigns Turhir to play for him in his absence because they have the same mindset. Drinks a crazy amount of wine during the course of the game (it helps him relax) but still does not appear drunk, nor is his gameplay affected.

Maereth never gets into trouble (in the game) because literally everyone is half-focused on protecting her. Eventually she gently removes herself from the game so they can play for real without having to consider her. Helped Legolas make the dice, miniatures, and game boards.

Chapter I: Prince of Mirkwood (Pt. I)

The waters were peaceful just as the lore of ages say they were. I could see we were still days from the everlasting twilight of Aman, but I knew in my heart that once we made it there, I would see my family once more. I watched as the four elves on board spoke with quietly amongst themselves. We were the last of our kin to sail to Eldamar. The presence of a Prince from the House of Durin did not seem unusual to them after all that had happened.

As Gimli slept by the bow, I could not help to find myself thinking about the past. I would miss my home and all that I had left behind in Arda. The world I had once called home had changed. The moment I saw Aragorn crowned king of Arnor and Gondor, I could feel a change in the air. After everything the Fellowship had accomplished, I knew that I would become little more than myth; legend at best. With the sealing of Aglarond, the Dwarves joined the Elves’ fate in a world we helped to create.

As the waves of the sea carried us toward the Undying Lands, I watched the final vestiges of Arda fade into mists of time. The land where I was born would become a memory I would remember forever in quiet disbelief with a curious longing. My adventure was coming to an end, even as my life would go on forever. In that world, I began life as the son of Thranduil, the Elvenking of the Woodland Realm known for most of my childhood as Mirkwood. I was on my last journey from which I would never return. Who would I become beyond the shores of Arda?

I came into this world in Eryn Galen as Legolas Lasgalen Thranduillion in the month of Lótessë in the forty-first year of the Third Age. My mother was Queen Êlúriel Nenluin, a Nandorin from the lost land of Ossiriand. She died when I was still a elfling, but I remember that she was beautiful and kind. Before I was conceived, my parents took in Târthon, the son of my father’s best friend Melros. After he perished at Dagorlad during the War of the Last Alliance, his wife Árendil could not bear her grief and sailed to the Undying Lands leaving her son in their care. When I was old enough to understand, I was sad for Târthon but glad to have a brother.

My grandfather Oropher had died in the same battle that took Târthon’s father, but my grandmother Nimeithel was there to see me come into the world before she left for Aman with my mother’s father Nendúril. It would be the beginning of darkness for the Elves of Eryn Galen.--J.M.M ❁

Last minute desicions will be the death of me. But here, have a crappy fic I wrote really quickly.

No really, First off, I apologize for the quality, I just decided to do this challenge earlier today 😅 second, it's not a major plot point or anything but Legolas is transmasc in this so.

Safety Net | Swooning | “How many fingers am I holding up?”

In. Out. In. Out. Out.Out. You shake as you try to draw another breath, lungs empty you wrench your mouth open and force a gasp of air. Half regestering the knock at the door, you lift your head from your knees, resting it agaist the wall, if indeed you could be so generous as to call the movement resulting in an obvious thump 'resting'.

The knock sounds again, this time more urgent. Rubbing at your eyes and gathering the discarded shoes, you call out, "One moment please!" The chipper tone giving naught away, or so you hope.

All hope of this is thrown aside when a familiar voice calls back. "It's me, Legolas, open the door. Please."

Not half a minute passes, though it still feels far to long, yet not long enough, before your knees pop as you scoot yourself up the wall, and slide the lock away.

When Legolas' face comes into view, it already wears the expression of worry. Grief imeadiatly joins when he sees you propped heavily against the wall, chest visibly shaking, and struggling to control yourself. You make an attempt to walk toward him, to reasure that you're ok amd he need mot worry, but you've hardly pushed away from the wall when. Your vision begins to swim and strange dots seem to begin floating around you. You knock back against the wall and slump again to the floor.

He whispers your name, dropping to his knees beside you. "May I touch you?" At your jerking nod he places his hands over yours, stilling the scratching movement from causing more harm to your arms.

He draws you to your feet, and into an embrace. Taking his cloak away from his shoulders and warping it around you, Legolas leads you through the doorway and down the hall.

A soldier -not one of the Rohiram, more of a gatekeeper really- stops your progress by moving in front of the door. "Dreadfully sorry Lady," He says to Legolas. "You two need to move along. These chambers are for the visitors of the King only."

"It is entirely regrettable for you then," Legolas voice as cold as you've heard it, and that coupled with the obviously unfeminenity of it, has the guard's eyes going wide. "That we are both visitors of King Theoden."

"Well- I cant really just take your word-"

"Legolas Thranduillion, of Greenwood. I should like to pass by you peacefully, but you are testing my patience."

Whatever may have been the man's response, you would not know. As Aragorn opens the door, quickly glances at each person, doubling back to you at your pale expression. "Y/n?" He turns to the guard. "Can I ask what's wrong, sir?"

Suddenly respectful he shifts on his feet nervously. "I was just explaining that only the King's guests are allowed past."

"And you have other elves stashed away? I should certainly like to meet them, however if you would kindly let the prince past I would much appreciate it." Aragorn is altogether to amused, and the Guard has gone bright red.

Apparently deciding not to further embarrass himself, the man waves you and Legolas past, looking not a little afraid of the threatening glance your elf spares him.

By the time the darkness of the inner room swallows you, your breathing has steadied slightly, and you are content to ball up in Legolas embrace.

"Is there more that I can do, Meleth?"

You shale your head quickly, and ball fists into his tunic. "No there's just... So much. Everywhere. Nothing seems to stop and breath a moment. It all so fast, and I cannot breath. It seems that we are surrounded by death, and yet here there is feasting, children, children have died, yet we are still so loud. Would it be so awful if we just had but a moment of silence?"

His arms tighten around you and he begins softly singing in his mother tongue, you stay this way until again the horns are rung, ams again you must go to battle.

I am soooo sorry this got buried in my Asks, but excuses aside, this is inexcusably late! I want to say thank you so much for your kind compliments and I am so happy the Thranduilions have found a place in your head! <3

As for your question re: the BIG ONE--The Fates of the Thranduilions!

We know what happens to Legolas. The SotWK AU does not deviate from his War of the Ring participation and Fourth Age ending at all.

Mirion and Arvellas (sadly, tragically, but heroically) are killed in separate battles centuries before the events of The Hobbit.

Turhir leaves Mirkwood in TA 2601, soon after the death of Arvellas. His whereabouts and status (alive or dead??) become unknown to the rest of his family for centuries. Can't give more detail than that for the moment.

Queen Maereth is killed in Gundabad in TA 2793 during the War of the Dwarves and Orcs. 

Gelir is banished and leaves Mirkwood in TA 2800. But unlike Turhir, Thranduil and Legolas know he is alive because they occasionally receive news of sightings of him throughout Middle-earth. Gelir travels widely fighting Sauron's evils, trying to avenge his family, very similar to the way Elladan and Elrohir crusade against orcs with the Rangers. In fact, Gelir joins up with the Dunedain several times and even meets young Estel in Rivendell!

Now for the bigger spoiler!

By the time the War of the Ring ends, Gelir AND Turhir DO reappear and return to Mirkwood to reunite with Thranduil and Legolas! They become a happy (although still incomplete) family once more by the dawn of the Fourth Age and the renewed kingdom of Eryn Lasgalen.

Again, I'm going to avoid going into more detail than that for now, because I have to save some stuff for the actual fics I'm writing. XD

But this is such a lovely Ask, and again, thank you for the interest you give to my beloved OC Princes! <3
