i don't think that as social beings we were suppose to be organized in a way where the romantic relationship is the source of all your emotional and intellectual needs. But the way we are organized today, the romantic relationship is forced to be the main source of intellectual and emotional fulfillment. Other social relations seem to weaken with time and life, when they should not. And would not if our society was organized with human beings, not capital, in mind.

the steven universe hate is insane bc people are (or at least were) more upset that fictional war criminals got fictional hugs than they recognize that it singlehandedly advanced queer rep in children's media by lightyears and then straight up ate heavy retaliation for the nerve.

It does have real flaws that are worth discussing, but it also put their male protagonist in dresses and skirts and played it straight and even empowering, they aired a lesbian wedding on television, it was a genuinely queer, genuinely diverse piece of media through and through. It did a lot of real good for the real world.

But also the fictional characters caused fictional harm to other fictional characters, and didn't get an onscreen firing squad sentence. So, you know, it's basically ontologically evil in real life.

The thing that's slightly frustrating is that my blog over the years has attracted the strong independent you don't need nobody types, especially not a romantic partner, and especially not a romantic partner who is a man. Because that's who I was, and still am to a degree, and was writing about this for the better part of a decade.

And so now when I talk about being feeling more isolated in life, without significant romantic relationships, I got few comments about how it's just all perspective and all you need is yourself.

And I just have to laugh, like do you guys know who you're talking to LOL. You're preaching to the choir. But trust me when I say this, cuz I certainly ignored it when people said this to me. You need community. You need people to share your days with. New experiences with. It gets hella old to do things solo. I would know because I did it for a whole decade. To the point that it was a point of pride for me that I didn't need anyone to do anything with 💁🏾‍♀️

And I think it's important to try to consider where you might be in life 10 years from now. It's possible that emotionally you feel fine to take on certain challenges now. But not in 10 years.
