Columbo and the Knight (1984)
put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

what's fun about shipping Tim with Dick, Jason, or Damian is he has, at some point, hallucinated all of them to comfort himself. even when he doesn't like them or particularly get along with them, he has to imagine/hallucinate them just so he has the power to go on. Tim's concepts of the Robin mantle and what it should be is so fun, because he respects the others through the Robin mantle. Tim worships Dick because he was the first Robin. he wouldn't be Robin if Jason hadn't died in the mantle. and a lot of his frustration with Damian is he feels Damian isn't honoring the mantle correctly. when you ship Tim with the other Robins you can't divorce their identities as Robin from it because Tim will always see them as a Robin first and that's so fun and fucked up. like.

Tim perceiving Dick as *Robin* cheering him on, not Nightwing, which is the version of Dick that Tim actually knows? that's just. wild of him. he will always view Dick as Robin first, his personal hero but also the original of the legacy. his love for Dick is shaped by that.
and then of course, even when he's hallucinating/imagining Jason cheering him on, it's *still* through the lense of being reminded how Jason failed? subconsciously believing that Jason got himself killed because of his actions, and that being a lesson for Tim to learn from? Jason isn't a person to Tim, he's a moral lesson about how to be Robin. any potential idolization he could have of Jason isn't because he loves Jason, it's because of the lessons Jason's death taught him.
and then, even though him hallucinating TIm is from the New-52, which makes characterization all kinds of questionable, i do think it makes sense for TIm to hallucinate/imagine Damian after Damian's death in an attempt to cope with it.

to an extend, he sees Damian's death as in part his own fault. and even hating Damian, Tim needs the comfort from this to cope with Damian being gone. he's angry that Damian even was Robin, and has to learn something from Damian's death and how it impacts the Robin mantle, and teenage heroes as a whole. like, Tim can pretend he hates Damian all he wants, even getting taunted by the image of Damian, but there's still an underlying love to their relationship.
i think that's just the fun of shipping Tim with any of them. you will never divorce Tim's views of them from the Robin mantle and how fucking Unwell he is about anyone else who's been Robin before or after him, to the point he has to hallucinate them comforting him when he's at his lowest. it's always going to be a little unhealthy, a little toxic, and driven by Tim's relationship with being Robin as well. i need more Tim being weird about Robin in these ships.

if i had a nickel for each otp i have that's destined not to be together because ultimately their stories are not about a happy romance but rather of coming-of-age/maturity and deep mutual affection that can't be destroyed even by the bittersweetness of the narrative and the recognition of the barriers that stop them from being together, then i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

I don’t ship R*nance, but, man, it’s wild seeing people go “um, why would you ship that, Nancy is so mean to Robin” when they ship H@rringrove. Shouldn’t they be bored because Nancy’s not mean enough? She doesn’t even pop up when Robin’s gazing longingly at Vickie to go “huh, guess your crush is getting porked by Mr. Mullet tonight,” let alone break crockery over her head.
#tbh my real hot take is that Steve’s stank attitude towards Eddie#(while not actually a big deal)#is less sympathetic than nancy being short with Robin right after seeing a dead body#st*ddie is fine to me#it’s a McDonald’s happy meal#unremarkable but good at the right moment#but I’ll be real with you all I don’t see what’s in it for Eddie based on the show dynamics#some people write it good though#I will be additionally real with y’all#the real reason I lost interest in r*nance#is that I read one too many fics where Nancy is disappointed in jonathan#for smoking weed when she taught him that poetry is just another way to rap#not literally but close to that#like. ugh. why make her so uncool and condescending#also—and I don’t think this applies to most people who ship it#just a subset of Steve stans#sometimes it feels like a way for Steve to win their breakup#it’s a bummer#okay. ship diss track over.

idk if anyone else has this problem, but i love multishipping/normalized polyamory in fic so much, it's gotten to the point where if i read a fic that defaults to monogamy, it catches me off-guard. i genuinely manage to forget that exclusivity is the expected norm.
obviously many writers/artists are going to rely heavily on monogamous relationship dynamics, and that's fine. but for me, it's far more interesting to leave a character's options open. whether that's a setting where open relationships are the presumed default, or a narrative that focuses on interpersonal drama and tension, multishipping provides lots of ways to explore character dynamics that would otherwise be closed off. most of my published writing isn't overly focused on shipping, but i try to avoid any expectations of monogamy regardless.
i think the reason i don't care for default monogamy also stems from my personal distaste for clearing up whether a relationship is romantic or platonic. i'm far more compelled by ambiguity/secret third things than either of these two options, and i generally avoid ruling either of them out in my own writing.
obviously this is all my opinion and personal preference. if anyone else has thoughts on the topic, i'd love to hear them!

Yeah, but JUST Lancer shipping in specific, Idc if it's a selfship or not, I outright despise it. I feel as if any ship involving Lancer is immoral as I & definitely others view him as an age too young for romantic relationships of ANY sort. Part of this is due to personal interpretation, but I also feel as if Lancer being relatively young is HEAVILY implied in the Deltarune game. He just acts like a younger kid to me, therefore I see ships involving him as pretty disgusting.
However, every other selfship or general ship is fine, so long as it's not involving 1) a character that's canonically a YOUNG child, or 2) a character that's heavily IMPLIED to be a young child. I try to be very open about shipping as a whole even if I personally don't understand it. But ships of ANY kind involving the criteria previously mentioned is outright scummy to me & always will be.
#maybe i need to make this more clear in my introductory post to minimize confusion#rly i'm fine with or at least tolerate all ships even if i personally don't agree with them#but again ships involving the criteria mentioned are absolutely not tolerated imo#i mostly just stick with Lancer in specific since he's the character most important to me#but this applies to every other character under the same criteria as well NOT just Lancer#though regarding Lancer ik some people hc him as aroace so that's another reason to not like ships regarding him#for me it's mostly about implied age tho#ask#mutualio#random nonsense
