OKAY this might be a really stupid question, but I adore magical girl anime, and I’ve really been in the mood for like… a darker/more adult (?) magical girl show… But sooo many of those are like, really bad. Do you have any recommendations for ones that are good? 😭
On the lighter end, maybe ArtisWitch? It's short & episodic but some of the later episodes explore some more complex themes.
Somewhere in the back streets of Ura-Harajuku, a witch and her mysterious shop serve those whose wishes have gone unheard, giving them an opportunity to unlock their hearts' greatest desires.
Believing this to be an ideal arrangement, the proud apprentice witch Nina strives to fulfill her customers' wishes while her power and influence grow accordingly. However, not all wishes are meant to come true—and not all of them lead to a happy ending. As Nina is compelled to peer deeper into the human psyche, she soon discovers the dark side of a witch's obligations, and her ambitions begin to clash with her wish to comfort the entire world.
Another short one is the movie "Glass no Hana to Kowasu Sekai" (shortened to "Garakowa") it barely counts as magical girl but the leads outfits are so reminiscent of magical girl outfits I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for
Dual and Dorothy are two programs. Their job is to enter the various worlds containing the memories of people across many timelines, deleting worlds that become infected with viruses. They come across Remo, a girl who has lost memory of who she is, who is searching for "the flower garden." However, they soon begin to learn not only about Remo's true purpose but also about the state of the world outside.
Last one is sort of a half-recommendation, because while I think it's a compelling story with good visuals, I think a lot of it's messages are complete baloney. It's Earth Girl Arjuna! It's pretty environmental heavy, which is fine but the solutions it proposes are uh, not good. If you wanna really dissect something that's good weird at best and "what the hell no??" at worst, give it a shot (also warning for the pro-life messages in episode 9)
The series follows Juna Ariyoshi, a high school girl chosen to be the "Avatar of Time" and entrusted with saving the dying Earth.

Here's a big post of some of my doodles of [Cap'n and crew] that I haven't posted yet! Couple are comics, couple are shitposts, you know how it goes.
(Also have some extra character tidbits beneath the cut!)
Cap'n (she/they) has become a Spongebob-adjacent "married to the job" type with sprinklings of "they are not immune to rose-tinted Company propaganda". Cartoonishly loyal to work, she's more upset about lying to the boss about her condition over actually becoming a monster on work time (though she isn't particularly a fan of being a monster, either).
Skeets (she/her) was already implied to be pretty optimistic and curious, but I've doubled down on this. She's constantly curious about entities and the state of her co-workers, asking questions and absorbing new information. She's also extremely lucky when it comes to encountering entities.
Mav (she/him), as implied by her nearly leaving Cap'n behind in the first comic, has become a "I won't hesitate, bitch" bitch. Split second decisions aren't an issue for her, she WILL shoot first and ask questions later. (She also now has a gambling addiction, haha. LOVES betting credits on things)
Kid (he/him) is now Irish. I will not elaborate. He's kind of literally the same otherwise. He's also in major inherited debt because of a Company-caused clerical error, but don't worry about it.
Uh. That's about it, I suppose!

broadly speaking I agree with the idea that the flaws of the USSR have been exaggerated by capitalist critics, but I gotta say, I'm not especially sympathetic to the argument "unlike Actual Imperialist nations, the USSR nobly sacrificed its resources to help its backward satellite states Rise Up"
like damn that sure is an argument that "actual" imperialist nations have famously never used lol

ACTUALLY...
Or "When you are an ace Af artist that's too blind with aesthetic attraction to notice that your art model is flirting with you", happens to me all times BAHAHA COFF.
ANYWAYS! Improvised comic sequence based on an old prompt conversation of these two from a draft of months ago. I never touched it because it was for my Merfolk!AU but after chitchats about this pairing in a discord server I said WHY NOT just do it, Windy LOL.
And here we are. I hope I made someone laugh because I finished this at 4 am but it was worth it X'D. YOU ALL ARE WELCOME!
EDIT: It has a continuation [NOW] ! It's more emotional than comical.
BONUS under the cut! Solo Prowl because HE IS CRIMINALLY HANDSOME FOR A ROBOT WHAT THE HELL. I can't blame Bulkhead for losing a pencil in this way.

i feel like posting a short blurb from my wip bc i wrote it when i was just putting words to paper - not even writing, just getting ideas down - and i still find it hilarious
“Your impertinence is amusing when it’s aimed at my brother, but you will not prevail against me, Emrys,” Morgana hissed, her wild and unkempt hair sticking out around her head like a bed of snakes.
Merlin’s eyes narrowed further as he pulled himself higher in his seat to properly look down at her, “Destiny has decided I will always be stronger than you, better than you. I will always be your doom. Just give in, witch.”
Morgana stood, her chair scraping loudly as it sailed from behind her. She slammed her hands down on the Round Table, sending Lord Nimrod to the floor with the force of his flinch, “I deserve to be Court Sorceress.”
Merlin stood much slower with an air of quiet power and grace. He crossed his arms and continued to stare down at her, “That’s nepotism.”
“Bullshit!” Morgana turned her mad stare over to Arthur who was staring up at the ceiling, his eyes drooping with exhaustion.
