Hi! You mentioned we could ask any questions so I was wondering who is on the bridge? Who are the highest ranking officers on board?

Did the protagonists get on the ship all at the same time? And, if not whose the newest on the ship?

Also, what in which year/time frame are you setting the story? (Mostly asking because Cleo’s poll clothes were from Strange New Worlds set in like early 2300, whilst Bajorans really enter into the Federation’s notice a hundred odd years later)

Okay! bridge first. Captain is Xisuma, I don't know who his first officer is. Chief Engineer Doc, of course. Other bridge crew are Martyn (pilot, im thinking), and tactical at the start is Grian, but after Evo... probably someone else... and then later Pearl.

So interestingly- yes! The ship is brand new, this is it's first voyage, I suppose. So the ENTIRE crew is new to the ship. That being said, a lot of them have served in Starfleet for longer, except some of the cadets. Their mission starts off kind of oddly so a LOT of people get promoted unexpectedly. For example, X wasn't even captain initially- an unnamed character was (he didn't seem like the command type to me lmao), but days before their maiden voyage she got too drunk celebrating, stole a shuttle and crashed it, killing herself and some of her buddies along with it.

before that tho, she wasn't the best captain ANYWAY, she mostly ignored the crew, but she was tactically intelligent and knew what to say to superiors, so she got captaincy. Xisuma was originally her first officer and did most of the crew interaction, so after she died, they speed promoted him and he very naturally became the captain. He leads a very collaborative ship.

Another person who's served for a while in starfleet is Etho- despite being quite young for a commander. He's kind of a prodigy, flew through the academy and got promoted very quickly. He's definitely a legendary figure among most officers. still unsure of what species to make him. Trill would be cool but I dont think so.

All that being said, Oli is the newest to Starfleet of all the characters. He's an ensign who spends most of his freetime at the bar, either serving drinks or playing various alien instruments. At this point, the bartender considers him an apprentice.

As for timeframe, the best answer I can give is I dont know. I spent probably WEEKS trying to figure it out... and I ended up hopelessly confused. If you have any suggestions that would be AMAZING

Sure thing! In fact, writing this post dragged me into a little research whirlpool, so it ended up a lot longer than intended too! Whoopsie. Oh, and there's also a wonderful little secret about them under the cover of this Read More ;)

So then: to talk about the R33, one must talk about the R32 it was an evolution of.

Nissan hadn't had a Skyline GT-R in a while, so when, with the R32 generation, they revamped a name born from one of the hardest homologation specials of the time, it needed to be something special. And as we established, it was. But how so? Well, they gave it not just All Wheel Drive, but an intelligent AWD system called ATTESA E-TS. ATTESA stands for Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All-terrain (which really sounds like a bacronym, but while attesa is an Italian noun, since it means "wait" I must imagine this just another Pajero situation) and E-TS stands for Electronic Torque Split (not to be confused with E-ST which stands for E STands for), as this was a computerized system that checked in on how them tires were doing 10 times a second. And you thought your mom was bad.

And the source of that torque was quite special too: the renowned RB26DETT, one of the most legendary and desirable Japanese engines ever made. Now, you know how in the other Nissan engine we went over, the SR20DET, the T stood for Turbo? Yeah. I think you can piece things together here. But why two turbos? Well, it was still the 80s (the 80s!) and turbos still very much suffered from turbo lag, so to get the performance of a large turbo but with better response and more linear power delivery they used two smaller turbos instead, which worked wonders. Now, of course, did this keep a bunch of people from chucking them away in favor of a single turbo large enough to house a family just to set off from the tuning shop with a power chart where the point of a hockey puck silhouette edges part the thousand mark and try to survive all four wheels losing traction at every gas stomp so as to make it to their friends' house to go brag and boast? I don't know, I can't remember how this question started. Oh, did this stop them from doing it. No.

So the thing is, after the revolution that the R32 GT-R was, the R33 was kind of an evolution. It used the same engine (and due to the gentlemen's agreement it even had to be rated at the same power), it still used the ATTESA system, it did the same thing around the Nürburgring as the GT-R before and every GT-R since (i.e. break the production car record, lol)... basically, there was no real headline feature relative to the R32, which is why the R33 doesn't really get as much attention as the generations beside it.

But after all, that just means it's an R32 but even better (looks some could argue to be a bit fresher, a couple strengthened bits all around, a revised AWD system, airbags -which took me ages to remember because my classic car ownership leads me to forget that's a thing that matters- and hell, a newer car all around!). So really, who gives a crap about attention?

And while I would normally end here, I made the grave mistake of deciding to go over the ton of special versions, so *sigh* here goes nothing:

The GT-R V-Spec, which had larger wheels standard, Brembo brakes, an intelligent limited slip differential and a positively Bonnie-and-Clyde'd front bumper. According to the Nissan website, the engine "is same as that of standard GT-R, but the car’s performances are more splendid". Verbatim quote, that.

The Autech 40th Anniversary, with which Nissan tuning division Autech celebrated guess what it celebrated no really guess by essentially making a GT-R sedan, which is cool but where's mah wing tho? >:C

The LM, which was a special car they built as a homologation special for their Le Mans racecars. Note I said "special car", not "special model", because since the rules didn't say how much that road car had to sell, Nissan only made one. And kept it. Fuckers.

Do note how the wider fenders with no hole for the corner of the headlights meant they had to put parking lights next to the indicators, but since the headlights are a single piece the corner of the headlights is still there, it's just covered by the fenders. I would be SO curious to find out if there's a bulb in it. Because, like, presumably they just took headlights from the production line where they presumably have all the bulbs installed before putting them on the cars, right? Did they bother taking them out? I'm alone in caring about this, aren't I.

The LM Limited, a little special spec of GT-R and V-Spec R33s with a very cool blue they made 188 of to celebrate the R33's 0 Le Mans wins.

The NISMO 400R (why are we yelling?), where 400 stood for the horsepower from the bonafide racing engine (oh that's why). Yep, this was such a brazen car that it openly said "fuck your gentlemen's agreement, do I look like a gentleman". And indeed it doesn't. It used a sleuth of carbon fiber and titanium bits back in the 90s when that just wasn't a thing in the automotive space - bits that weren't used nor sold anywhere else and thus cost absolutely unfathomable cheddar. Like, the strut bar? The little bit of metal between the two sides of the engine bay? One sold for NINE GRAND, because the only way to get one is to rip one from a 400R, of which, faithful to its name, they only made 400 tenths of them. Ah, right, we're on the gay site - that equates to forty. The cars themselves are so desired that two of them are responsible for an auction site crash - one for excessive site traffic and the other because the price reached a higher number than the site could cope with.

And sadly, more ordinary Skylines got a lot more expensive too, their prices having climbed miles clear of four-digit territory and well into the 20s even for more sedate GTS-Ts or plain ol' normal Skylines (we tend to forget the Skyline is just An Car™) - even in their homeland. It appears cheap Skylines no longer really exist.

Except, as it turns out, in Mother Russia. You can find Skylines treated and priced like the three decade-old mid-range sedan/coupes they are for days.

And as I was discussing the situation with a dear mutual, I found out something truly spectacular that doesn't really have much to do with the R33 but I am going to share with you anyway because it is just too crazy not to.

Jezebel: Well… at least now they all have each other!   Which gives me Port vibes from that movie clip where Ports like d’Art!  We also protect each other! 💕🥺  Oh, speaking of… Are all their backstories the same in the other adaptations?? Or are they unique to this one?

Wench: In my experience… Athos is almost always the same; he was married, she was a criminal to some degree, he had her executed and has felt guilty ever since, and she’s not only not dead, but she’s working for the Cardinal.  Aramis is always devout while simultaneously romantic and having a tendency towards womanizing (or not just womanizing, depending on your interpretation).  As I mentioned, d’Art usually is different; most stories use the initial idea of d’Art going expressly to get a commission, not from some revenge story.  And Porthos… I’m less sure.  If I recall correctly, he doesn’t usually have much time spent on backstory.  He usually came from something notorious though; he’s “Porthos the Pirate” (an exceedingly infamous pirate, apparently) in the Disney film and, as you know, a member of the Court of Miracles here.  So, I guess I’d say… they all have basic similarities, and their personalities are usually the same, but specifics alter.

Times when Xiao Zhan was “... understand everything, but I am always pretending to be stupid” 😏

I can’t get this out of my head and it really made me look at things in a different way. So here are some examples of this sly little fox. Xiao laoshi please teach us your ways. lol. 🙏🏼 this is all cpn and interpretation only.

1. In the recent OOL tidbits, it was shown that GG uses a Macbook easily. with just one hand, he can navigate it and do all kinds of things. However, if you recall that interview with Yibo, it was also Mac. Look at him acting like he needs Bobo to do things for him. He’s just sooooo 🙃 Did he want him to come closer and help him? but in the last GIF he knows what to do! 😂😂😂

2. I always wondered why he stuttered and was so flustered in this interview. People were saying that it was because of the topic and cause Yibo was there. Imagine the always eloquent master of interviews GG stuttering. I think it’s one of those times. He’s so cute tho and it’s clear Yibo got the message.

3. THIS SMIRK. The legendary smirk. Web couldn’t see his face so he wouldn’t know and Web was full-on LWJ mode. In the meantime here is is GG who “knows everything” and that’s why he had that smirk.

4. I’ve always loved this interaction, when they talk and whisper so close to each other. When Bobo tells GG what’s going on since it’s too loud and he tells him which way to go in a chaotic stage. It’s not that GG pretends to not know, It’s that he allows Bobo to take care of him and trust that he will be there to supply the things he can’t understand at the moment. I can only imagine how chaotic it can be for them when onstage and everyone screaming and cheering.

5. GG is not really the best dancer but with a good teacher, it’s gonna be so much easier. I can see GG loving how Web is so good at memorizing the steps and taught it to him. He doesn’t need to “pretend”, Web is willing to teach his Gege. 🥺

6. Their conversation during that white windmill moment which I posted here. GG was asking “who won’t cry?” and like he was denying what Web was saying that he ( LWJ ) won’t make him ( WWX ) cry. He knows what’s going and what they are talking about but I think he is challenging Yibo to say more. He wants to hear more.

Now let me venture into some unofficial BTS videos/audios that went around at some point. Some are still available and some have been deleted. This doesn’t mean that I’m trying to “frame” GG in a certain way, it’s just interesting to see a different interpretation of his actions to Web. the “acting stupid/ignorant” is also a way of allowing Web to take care of him which is not GG’s style. If you observe him with other people, he has that “leader” quality going on. He does not rely on other people or tell them that he’s having a hard time. But with Web, he can tell him what’s really going on. 🤍 I just love THEM. I love what they have and I hope they continue to be together. 🙏🏼

The Eclipse Ep 6 Live Blogging

I have class from 10:10-11 while this show goes on from 9:40-10:40 so... is it better to just watch it all at 11 or start at 9:40, watch part 1 and maybe 2, then watch other parts at 11? Agh, why couldn’t this show be at 9 or my class at 11 T.T I need this show in my brain as soon as it releases

I do love it when they show the fact that Akk’s doing what he’s doing not just because he loves the school but because of self-serving reasons as well, whether it be that he wants the college scholarship like he admitted in ep 5 or that he doesn’t want Suppalo’s reputation to be ruined while he’s the head of the prefects.  + the “You maintain peace and goodness by doing all those shitty things, Akk?”  

He says he doesn’t wanna hurt anybody, that’s why I was so hoping that he didn’t do the flower pot + car stints because those can certainly hurt someone

the direction of the conversation is slightly confusing to me like it’s adjacent to what needs to be said but now exactly? or maybe it is... the way to get through to Akk doing bad things selfishly is to reassure him that he doesn’t need to do all that instead of just saying why the fuck are you doing all that dumbass? Also, I guess Ayan already knew Akk was doing bad shit and liked him still, so he cares more about Akk than his deeds and wants to show that.

I’m fine with teacher/student romances when I’m watching a show with like no damn morality but this one where we’re very concerned with people in power and how they use it, I hope they don’t go there and if they do, I wonder how they’d handle it. Although... I wonder if she isn’t just using Wat at this point to just more info on his group/Akk and perhaps Chadok in a roundabout way.

I’m so confused by this stepdad “if he’s your faen, admit it. we’re in a new age now. how’s school?” seems like something caring people would say but I guess it’s a way to make Thua lower his guards OR that he’s an alright dude most of the time but gets really angry really quickly and that’s when he’s abusive

Ayan’s so funny, just getting into bed with Akk with a smile. this whole bed sharing scene is sooo bl, so cute.

Aw, Ayan’s nightmare again :( Also the first time we saw it, we didn’t know much about the necklace but now we know for sure that it’s like current day Ayan with his necklace have a nightmare that he was there with Dika but couldn’t stop him

I heard a kiss sound but also could see Ayan’s uncovered lips, so cheek kiss?

okayy several kisses and cuddling afterwards. I liked the silence no bg-music kiss (tho ngl the heavy breathing after the kiss threw me off cuz I was like um??? but it was just Ayan getting a hold of himself I think). I also like that it’s a soft, comforting kiss; their chemistry and dynamic means that you kind of expect like an explosive kiss and I really hope we do get one later but their first ones being kinda unsure before going in again and being comforting is so good

I guess I won’t watch the preview but I suspect I’ll be spoiled about it anyway. 

Overall Episode Thoughts:

short episodes but we get to see everything: curse stuff, akk and ayan romantic and platonic progressions, akk character development, wat and teacher sani, kan and thua. even got glimpses of The World Remembers kids (and glad to know they’re liked and having fun outside of school), no prefect trio scenes but got Wat talking about them + kan and wat convo, got a glimpse of Chadok, no progress on the uncle but we saw him in the nightmare again, also spent time searching for the notebook even if we didn’t find it. 

Really enjoyed it, the show keeps getting better and better. I love how much things have started making sense retroactively now that we know that Akk is the curse and Ayan knew it too. This makes me hopeful that they’ll continue have a comprehensible and fun plot and reveals, as well as land the ending hopefully

Fave Scene:

The first and last scenes I think. I thought the production of the show thus far has been alright but not impressive but I loved how the first scene and the last scene were shot and edited a lot. 

The way the present and past scenes were weaved together was so good, connected by the fire but Akk’s expression as he’s initiated surrounded by people, including ones he adores vs his expression as he is about to set fire to the effigy really impacted me right at the start of the episode. 

For the last scene, I was surprised by this show which is obsessed with dramatic background music chose for it be silent. I think it was a very good choice, made me anticipate the characters’ reactions more and also portrayed the “they’re the only ones here” vibe well.

 + Khao’s laughter in that beachside food scene when the servers asked if they’re a ship or real 

Curse Culprit Suspects (Or the Notebook Thief): 

Well, seems like Akk is the only Curse Culprit. 

I actually don’t know how the Notebook Thief is other than people saying they didn’t see Kan or Thua in the scene. 

Also, I wonder when Namo’s gonna make an impact. Is he scheming something or is he just a red herring and he’s gonna be helpful in the end somehow? Or maybe turn against the students in the end but isn’t against them right now.

here's my Gamer Review (no story spoilers)

the combat sucks and is sometimes unbalanced even in the beginners difficulty. FUCK mirror image all my homies hate mirror image. and the way some bosses have ridiculously high AC just to make it difficult when really all it does is make the fight tedious

another thing: the spell book system is so unintuitive, it took me until act 5 to finally look up how to prepare nenio's spells and understand how spell slots work 😭 (or i may just be stupid)

i love the camping mechanic and evening banter

i love that you can take 5 companions with you <3 they're varied in such a way that i can rotate the companions in the party with one or two mainstays. and it's not a total headache to swap companions in the party *cough* bg3 *cough*

SHARED INVENTORY MY BELOVED

there aren't any good legendary bow weapons if im gonna be honest. not much good legendary rapier weapons too. you get so much loot but most of them aren't even really good

the level/dungeon design teeters between fun and confusing

the puzzles require you to use your brain which is great, but i fear I've been spoiled by bg3 with how it gives you different ways to solve a puzzle. so i may or may not have been playing with a walkthrough

i love that some companion quest endings hinge on many actions the player says or does throughout the game and not just the One Decision you make in their final quest. this way it feels more like your actions have consequences. the downside of this is that if you don't get the ending you want for a character it can be frustrating since the decision that affected it is way back in act 2 or 3 lol

speaking of decisions, there were many points in the game where i really had trouble deciding what to do or say. that's a good thing for me (even tho id just open a walkthrough and see if the choice i want to make doesn't have dire consequences LMFAO)

act 4 is actually pretty good. im glad it's a short one and while it's super jarring to transition to this location with the slightly weird game mechanics, i got used to it pretty fast and finished the act in like. 10 hours lol. there's so many good companion quest in this act too, which counteracts the awful location. at the same time the amount of quests doesn't feel overwhelming at all?

crusade management is fun but some aspects of it is unintuitive, like the whole outpost->bastion->fortress upgrade thing. also if your general has scorching ray and fireball and firestorm it makes the crusade fights really easy which is kinda funny

the final battle is... okay. i had it on a custom very easy difficulty so the fights were VERY quick. but i like that all the people you helped in the game showed up instead of you having to call them one by one each turn lmfao

AND i like that the companions you left outside the threshold also gets to join the battle by defending the entrance. something like this happens in dao where the party has to split and it's nice bc all the companions get to be a part of the final battle yayyy

there are certain things you could miss out if you don't do That One Errand Quest, but doing it is so cool. you get to find out about the real motivation of the antagonist

why does nocticula look like that when all the other demon lords have really cool and huge model designs (i get that noct is a succubus demon lord but c'mon man)

also im sad I have to choose between lann and wenduag :( i was happy to know i could also recruit wendu but she bugged out for me and her bloody corpse was right next to lann in drezen. rip

i also love how much the companions/NPC just straight up lie to the player character 😭 i got fooled so many times bc there's no wayyy im gonna get betrayed and lied to again right? right?

the player character becoming the appointed commander doesn't at all feel... railroaded? like yes you're pretty much forced into the role but it didn't make me feel the same way as inquisition did (might be because there's an actual prologue in wotr)

part of that ^ might also be because of the mythic paths which really help you carve out the character you want

all in all, it was fun, i enjoyed it very much!

would you be willing to rate cdramas on: your recommendations for someone who hasn't seen many cdramas yet?

I can try. But also the first cdrama I ever completed was Nirvana in Fire, which I've heard a lot of ppl specifically say is not a good first cdrama. So this is all with a grain of salt.

Also, to be noted: I assume that a drama delving into Chinese culture is not a minus in this case, as long as it's still comprehensible or would be with a little research. (E.g. when I watch a historical drama set in an era I have no experience with, I usually do a little googling at the confusing bits and come out fine.)

Also to be noted: Since I usually just rate every cdrama I've ever watched (...it's only eleven. I'm also a person who hasn't seen THAT many cdramas, tho there are more I've DNFed) I'm just going to do that even if I don't actually rec the drama at all. You get a range!

So with no further ado, here are the dramas:

Ancient Detective--8/10 as an introductory drama, actually I think this is a good choice in a lot of ways. There are a lot of wuxia aspects to the show, from wanderers in the jianghu to martial sects to bands of bandits to legendary doctors to improbably perfect disguises to weak heroes who faint because they have a curse of coldness on them. So it's kind of cool as an introduction to that genre. However, it's also just a case procedural show, and the plot's easily understandable. Also, it's only 24 episodes, making it the second shortest drama on this list. I feel I must mention that the next shortest dramas here (Granting You a Dreamlike Life, Handsome Siblings, and Weaving a Tale of Love, tied) are 40 episodes long. Love Is More Than a Word is shorter. But Love Is More Than a Word is not very good (I love it but its quality is not high).

The Disguiser--7/10. What's not to love about a spy drama? Gave me a crash course on China's politics in WWII. Has a lot of intrigue and great characters. There is a small fandom. It is in love with a pair of adoptive brothers who are also employer and employee (and kind of ships the two) and it is not wrong about this but what I want is for ppl to care more about is the youngest brother of the Ming family and his awful relationship with his ruthless and manipulative spymaster mentor. which broke me into small pieces. Not rated higher bc 1) I think most ppl who watch this first watched Nirvana in Fire and became obsessed with one or more of the actors in it so I'm sure that influences our perception of it and 2) it has some episodes that are just kind of boring and a couple things about it really annoy me. (Like, why can't ppl show Ah Cheng some more respect, damn it?!)

The Flame's Daughter--God, I don't know. On the one hand, inter-sect intrigue, martial arts, vengeance, incredible whump, beautiful and color coded costuming, all things I love. I am constantly trying to get more ppl to watch this show. On the other hand I want to punch the male lead in the face, the main romance sucks, and the main plot only really kickstarts at about, hm, episode 6 or 7. And it only gets REALLY good (just imo) around episode 20-ish. But also, Dilraba Dilmurat! Even if her character develops slowly, I just love her! Idk, pick between a 8 (for "please watch this I am begging you") and a 4 (for "you might just quit around episode 4 and I wouldn't really blame you").

Granting You a Dreamlike Life--Again, can I rec this show? I'm really not sure I can rec this show. The love triangle, depending on how you feel about the characters and about love triangles in general, could easily be a huge drag. Also it's non-stop melodrama and tropiness. But it has nice whump and also has Zhu Yilong (most ppl know him from Guardian, which is not on this list bc I never finished it. He's a good actor). I guess I'll give it a 5/10. If you try it, try not to get bogged down in the first half (more like 3/4) of the first episode, which is all framing device.

Handsome Siblings--There are a few adaptations of the novel Handsome Siblings is based off of out there. I'm talking about the 2020 version. And honestly? 8/10. For me this show is the best wuxia I've seen, and probably the most classically wuxia at that. It is very over the top. A lot of Villains and Heroes who are self aware enough to call themselves literally villains and heroes. But it's also doing a little commentary on this--Jiang Xiaoyu, the real MC, calls himself both a hero and a villain depending on the day, and the real villains who drive most of the overarching conflict of the show are believed to be heroes by the general public. Anyway it's just a lot of fun. I only take the last two points off bc 1) the deuteragonist, Hua Wuque, is a drag, and his romantic arc is even more of a drag, and 2) there's definitely some sexism going around--sexual harassment jokes, for example, and Jiang Xiaoyu being generally sleazy. So those are serious downsides but I think the pure fun of the show makes up for it. Idk I think it's worth at least trying out. (...just make it past the first episode and a half of backstory before you judge.) ALSO THE FOOD LOOKS REALLY GOOD.

Joy of Life--4/10. I'm biased; I don't like Joy of Life very much even though a lot of people like it a lot. But apart from that assessment. Imo Joy of Life is a parody and a genre mash-up and better watched after you've already watched one or two more serious (or at least earnest, if humorous) wuxia or palace intrigue dramas. Like, it's more fun to see the Crown Prince and Second Prince awkwardly feuding if you've already seen Nirvana in Fire princes doing the same with a way higher sense of gravity. Watching Joy of Life before watching a sincere wuxia or palace intrigue drama would be like getting into Watchmen as someone who doesn't know superhero comics--it's not like you can't do it, but it kind of feels like you're skipping a step. That said, you said recs for someone who hasn't watched "many" cdramas, so, depending, it might be fine. But I also just don't like it that much. I think the characterization and tone are kind of weak. (...in general, ppl disagree with me on this.)

Love Is More Than a Word--5/10. On the one hand, very slashy and very SHORT, which is not something I can say about many cdramas. On the other hand, disappointing ending. I'm trying to rec cdramas that make you want to watch more cdramas, not ones that make you say "huh, well, that sure was a show" or tear your hair out. But again, it's short, so if time commitment's an issue, you could do worse. And it has fun historical vibes and a litttttle political intrigue.

Nirvana in Fire--Subjectively 10/10. The first cdrama I ever watched to completion, the drama that hooked me on cdramas in general. And imo easier to follow than many political dramas, bc Mei Changsu (or Prince Yu or Jingyan, depending on the episode) always takes a moment to monologue to the audience surrogate (usually Meng) and say "if you can't tell what I'm trying to do here. This is what I'm trying to do." So it's not too overwhelming. Also it's just. really good. And a lot of ppl view it as one of the best cdramas ever. And there's an actual fandom with a lot of good fic. However, objectively, the first couple episodes can be confusing, and the show in general is kind of dry. so if I was being objective I might rate it lower but I'm not going to bc this is my list.

Sword Dynasty--2/10 the real question is why would you watch this at all. But if you're a beginner with cdramas maybe you wanna watch a drama with a lot of swordsfighting and that's valid. But maybe you should watch Handsome Siblings or The Flame's Daughter or literally any other drama instead bc Sword Dynasty honestly is just not good. And it's very confusing! So confusing! I honestly thought I'd missed an episode when I started the first episode and never quite got over the sense of holes in the narrative and characterization; stuff I felt like I was supposed to already know, characters I felt like I was supposed to already be invested in. There are some good actresses here and some nice fighting scenes but I do not recommend the show.

Weaving a Tale of Love--5/10 in that I wouldn't discourage watching it but I don't think it would be very rewarding as one of your first cdramas. It's got some lovely episodes--fun political intrigues, cute flirtations, angst, all the good stuff. The aesthetics are good and the main actress is really cheerful and just fun to watch. But it really takes its time getting started. The first couple episodes are backstory, and then you have to see Liuli as an adult, and then Liuli has to sort of meet some people and her love interest and do some shenanigans, and THEN you finally get to the main political intrigue and revenge subplot. I didn't get bored by any of these arcs but I think for a beginner it might get frustrating. It's also not good enough that I'd put it in a category of "something you simply MUST watch". It's popcorn.

Winter Begonia--7/10, but with emphatic pros and cons both. This show has a lot going for it: It's slashy. It's a historical, and not in a vague wuxia sense; it's set solidly in the 1930s and deals with culture and events of the time. Watching Chinese opera in this show is a great look at a traditional Chinese art. It also has a lot of adventure, intrigue, shenanigans... However, the tone might be off-putting to some watchers, because the tone is a bit hard to place. Sometimes it's very melancholy, talks about changing times and living in a country at war. Other times it's slapstick comedy, and characters are yelling at each other or chasing each other around tables. Or petty intrigue, opera-circle melodrama and sabotage. Often it's more than one of these things in the same episode, or even in the same scene. For me it took a couple episodes to really get a sense of what Winter Begonia was going for in terms of tone, so I don't know if it would be a bit difficult for a beginner in cdrama-land to get a handle on it. However, I've shown this show to my mother, who had previously only watched two other cdramas, and she enjoyed it a lot. So honestly I feel I can rec it with a clean conscience.

before i get to giffing this week’s episodes..

i normally don’t do write-ups for baht oyunu or ada masalı but i just had some thoughts that i really wanted out of my head. this got a bit out of hand and became longer than i intended oops 😅 and ofc, beware of spoilers!

so this week’s episodes of both baht oyunu and ada masalı dealt with quite a lot of pain and heartbreak, which really put my shipper heart thru the wringer. but that’s what we get for clowning and investing as much as we do, right? 🤡

i really wanted to give a special shoutout to AM for finally having all the cards on the table. a lot of the times with dizis they tend to drag out the miscommunication and lies to no end, but seeing them confront all the lies and deception in one go was so flippin’ refreshing. not to mention, that scene where haziran and poyraz were locked up in that hotel room and just hashing everything out.. that deserves all 👏 the 👏 awards👏 their acting was so well done, i had tears in my eyes by the end. 

and you know what? i also really appreciate that the writing gives haziran a lot of credit for trying to fix her mistakes and still wanting to stick around as opposed to her moping around and leaving the island out of self-pity, which is what we normally see. even just her locking both of them up in the hotel room just so she could have a chance to present her side of the situation was legendary behaviour, but for her to step out afterwards and claim her mark on this island, knowing she would be ostracized and heckled was the cherry on top. im HERE for this queen shit 👑 they really don’t write female characters like this so i'm just so excited that we’re going somewhere new that i personally haven’t experienced before in diziland.

also, thank god that 🐍 hakan got exposed for the lying cheat that he is as well. i was so worried that he would still get away with all his crimes and just blame it all on haziran, but he also got what was coming for him and i’m just so pumped about that. sure he got away by the end of the episode, but that ass-whooping was SO satisfying.

of course, the next couple episodes are gonna be pretty intense and filled with a lot of pain, but they’ve ripped off the bandaid at this point and now everything just has to settle down and heal. which means they can get back to falling in love without any more hurdles and lies!! what a win, right??? like honestly, as a viewer & fan, i feel respected in a sense bc they’re not wasting our time with any more intricate lies and we’re finally getting down to the bottom of things, we’re not beating around the bush anymore.

which leads me to baht oyunu..

trust me when i say i actually enjoyed this latest episode a lot, purely for the angst. but at some point, the can of worms has to come out, right? and the lies just keep piling up, there’s no end to it. the worst is that SO many ppl are becoming involved, right down to ada’s prof - who’s a real one btw - for not clarifying with bora that ada never graduated.

i hate to compare, but after seeing this week’s ep of AM, it’s hard not to wish for something similar to happen in BO bc as a viewer i’m starting to get confused about who’s in on all the lies and who’s not. as far as i can tell, the major lies seem to be that a) ada’s married - happily and b) ada graduated, but because of these lies, a lot of smaller lies have stemmed like selin being married. 

i know with a show like BO where everything is more light-hearted, we can’t expect the same sort of fallout like poyhaz had in AM but man it would be really cathartic. i just want all cards on the table, i want everything cleared up so that adbor can also move on and fall in love without anything burdening them. with the way the show has been going so far, i really thought they would be switching things up and having a confession earlier on, but i’m starting to think we’re gonna have to wait for it just like every other dizi. i hope to god i’m wrong tho. 

also, if we really think about it, why would bora even be personally affected by these lies? like she basically just lied on her resume and got the job, and is amazing at her job. if bora wasn’t already falling for her, would this really be that big of an issue to him? it shouldn’t matter, right? the most this would be is a breach of contract, a breach of trust, but the longer they drag it out, the more involved he becomes (unnecessarily). she didn’t exactly do him dirty by lying and getting the job, she got the job for her own means, not as a favour to him or anything.

the fragman for next week’s ep doesn’t really make me feel any better, but obviously i’ll still be around, esp to see jealous bora lol. idk, i just feel like it’s really unfair to both ada and bora’s characters to have all this be so dragged out, esp considering how much all this is weighing on ada's conscience and how supportive bora has been this whole time. 

bora continues to surprise me with how he's ALWAYS there for ada and notices the tiniest things about her. he's becoming one of my fav characters in any turkish dizi. which is why im equally as jumpy to see how exactly he would react when all the truths are exposed. i highly doubt he'll be as erratic as poyraz, he'll more likely be very emotional and disappointed. and he's been trying to connect the dots since the beginning instead of being totally blissful so when exactly do we get to see the outcome of that? atp im more impatient than he is for everything to be laid out 😅

all in all, these episodes were still fantastic and we better gear up for more pain coming our way before our mains get the peace and love they deserve 🥲 im gonna get to giffing tonight so if you have any requests pls hit me up (that is if any of you are still reading). also if you like these write-ups, i might do more in the future 😊

final thoughts:

first of all, as i've been saying, it's aesthetically really beautiful. the filmography is great. framing, colors, the placement of shots, all amazing. the really long shots did drag after a while - i've been calling them "pans" but not all of them were, either way they're very long and felt a bit unnecessary. not too bad tho. builds up a sense of desolation for sure, which is great.

performances were great all around!! dev patel is sososososo good, his emotionality came across in a very raw and human way. in the backdrop of a fantasy, a tale told thousands of times, he isn't legendary or even really heroic. he's simply a man who isn't always good or strong or brave or principled, who at the end of the day decides to do what he knows he must. and that's oughhh. you know?

i thought the plot was pretty solid. this story is a classic to begin with and i really like the direction in which it was taken, very personal and artistic and real. human. i keep saying it but it's true. a bit strange when it got to the "journey home" thing into the future and then came back to the present. i've seen it done well and poorly, and mostly i was just confused. to be fair, i had just spent an hour looking for a song on youtube at the very very beginning of the scene so i probably wouldn't have thought it was as long or confusing if i had, you know, been paying attention the whole time. and hadn't paused it for an hour. next time perhaps.

a couple things i thought were a bit tricky - the role of his mother (morgause) throughout was kind of vague. like we see her do some enchanting sort of stuff, and it's implied that maybe she sends the green knight?? but then gives gawain the belt. but then he loses the belt. and then gets a new one (the same one, but from an obstensibly different person). also the blindfolding thing?? not sure what that was supposed to represent????? maybe just recognition but there were other easier ways to do it so i honestly can't tell you what's up with morgause in this film.

there was a bit where the camera pans around in a circle to see him a skeleton on the ground, then pans back around to see him alive in the same spot again and i'm??? not sure what's up with that. i mean, as far as we can tell he definitely did not die tied up in the forest. sooo i honestly have no idea what they were trying to say with that shot. extremely confusing. bamboozling, even. especially considering the huge amounts of foreshadowing the does get resolved in the whole rest of the movie.

essel, his love interest, is only that. she doesn't have any interest beyond him. and like, i get it, that's her folklorically-assigned role, but idk. seeing her in a couple more scenes might have made me like her more but as it was she wasn't presented particularly sympathetically. i mean gawain was kind of an asshole to her so i was sympathetic but that's not how it was presented. especially since it's from gawain's perspective or a third party (think athena in the odyssey - outside observer with a vested interest in the main character. but like, if she was the cameraman) the whole time. anyways, this film doesn't pass the bechdel test. it's not really supposed to so i'm not mad. this is a highly singular, highly personal story about a man. okay.

THE CGI FOX SUCKS SO MUCH!!! i have already said a lot it so i will not say more. i hate it passionately. i will not be acknowledging the fox.

the sound design and music is really good. the soundtrack utilizes a ton of folk sounds and instruments along with a synth that mixes in really cool ways. the sync of the music to especially lighting cues and some movements is super satisfying and done in a really obvious way i don't often see. would like to see more honestly. games do it. i can see the horror influence, that's really where i can think of music doing a similar thing. sound design is peak as well, very subtle, well mixed, the dialogue is adequately audible (i would recommend subtitles tho bc they're speaking in a fictionalized """"old english"""" the whole time), i liked the atmospheric noise and especially the different sounds of silence throughout the movie. there were a lot of moments where the music would cut out for a long period and you just get a shot with really nice atmospheric silence and whatever little sounds gawain is making. you don't notice how loud movies are until you watch quiet ones and it's been a while since ive seen one that does it as well as this.

so yeah! there are other things i could say, im sure, but idk. i could definitely stand to do some more analysis of the symbolism and artistry later on! there's a lot of it!

summary:

"the green knight" (2021) is a compelling, moving, and very rewatchable fantasy film. it combines elements of modern fictionalized biopics (you know where they take a musician or whoever and make them really legendary but also show them crying or having sex or whatever), art film, and classic fantasy, in a way that is really satisfying and feels unique. watching it is an enjoyable and actively fun experience! the central character feels very real and patel's performance is spectacular. i would absolutely rewatch this film, and recommend it with a rating of 15 shots of dev patel's soulful eyes out of 19 talking cgi foxes. watch it if you'd like!

I just saw word bunny and thought it was about bunny outfit, but dresses are also fine, but... Bunny outfit. Or bunny maid outfit. Or neko maid outfit. That's two for maid and i mean that more sexy maid outfit.

So... Someone horny (like me) throws challenge at Lucilius and Beelzebub that they would never wear maid outfit. Arrogant as they are, they accept and change it into rivalry who would wear it better. Belial almost comes at spot and immediately goes to search for outfits and because he's horny (as me) he chooses these sexy ones with short shirts and maybe some animals ears and to makes things "fair" he also gets outfit for himself. On stream/video Lucilius and Bubs are clearly red, but they try to fake confidence as hard as you can when you're one step from showing your underwear for the world and you hate showing your skin. Belial has time of his life and ends getting kicked, camera falls and Belial definitely ends showing too much ass than he should on video. All theirs simps almost gone extinct from thirst.

Daddy Lucifer and Lucio see this, look into each others eyes and its decided they are going to beat this. Lucifer is too sweet and naive for his own good so he also ends with maid outfit. Sandalphon is keep in darkness but Daddy Lucifer makes sure that he and Azazel are there when needed to see double Lucifers in their scandalous outfits. Lucio and Shalem also mades their double video, but they add cat ears and behaves cat-like (Lucio can purrs and his meows and nyas are very sweet). Lucio and Shalem video is surprisingly sweet and there's not so much sexual subtext. It still makes fans gone feral.

Lucifer doesn't have this luck as Daddy Lucifer sees two simps who absolutely needs to be destroyed and their blood taken as sacrifice. They go for cafe roleplay with some risque shots in camera and mostly for Azazel and Sandalphon, who are on edge of dying from thirst and losing blood, but are unsure if they are in heaven or hell. Probably both, if it's somehow possible. Daddy Lucifer definitely thought and learned Lucifer some... Phrases with double meaning, which Lucifer deliver with sweet smile, without realizing second meaning. Sandalphon knows and his brain stopped working. Azazel unfortunately stuck with a demon, who knows what he's doing if he desires to completely destroy and remove any hint of consciousness from Azazel, in which he is diabolically (hehe) good. Azazel, Sandalphon and simps never stood chance against him and every form of resist is meaningless.

Bahamut sees it and decides to unseen these things and go back to work.

In summary

Lucilis and Bubs are embarrassed, but try to hide it and regret their pride

Belial has time of his life

Lucio and Shalem have a good time

Daddy Lucifer kills everyone and asserts his dominance

Okay I tried really hard to pay attention to all the Typhon logs in-game, but I may have missed a few so: is it ever really explained how/why Typhon was so good at finding Vaults beyond luck

Like he says on Promethea that when he was on Pandora as a kid he used to go searching for Eridian ruins and that's why he's so good at finding them (??) but in some situations, like the Vault on Eden-6, he just gets up, knows where it is, and walks over to it with practically 0 warning and extremely casually. I know we need to have understanding for the writers that not everything can be explained, and I get that there sometimes needs to be stuff that just happens for the plot to exist, but given there are people that spend literal years looking for a Vault and how concealed the Vault on Eden-6 actually was (given he was called in to find it) I'm just curious HOW he just knew it was there. It is borderline supernatural to me with just that log in the manor. Did I miss one?? Can someone please help me 😭

Like, I was kinda okay with the whole 'he found the first Vault' thing, I was sorta alright with the whole 'he somehow managed to get to Nekrotefeyo with Leda's help' premise. But this? This just confuses me, like how did one dude find so many Vaults on his own when they're of legendary status *because* they're so hard to find. I can't imagine Typhon is the only kid on Pandora who looked for Eridian ruins in his spare time so what the heck. He makes it seem like he just wanders around accidentally finding Vaults while other people dedicate their lives to finding these things and the people who look generally only find 1 if they're really lucky (aka the protagonists). And even then this usually isn't on their own... We get help with the location from major villains who usually had help from either a corporation or eridian-related thing and just try to get the key to open it. Which leads me back to the whole 'Typhon finding all these Vaults in rapid succession is borderline supernatural and I'm confused' thing.

rating ninjago seasons with explanations because i was bored (spoilers obvs)

way of the ninja: 6/10 - i remember watching this ages and ages ago, to me they were just filler episodes to me as i’d watched all the way to rebooted at that point, not super interesting but it started everything so extra points for that

rise of the snakes: 5/10 - YES its old i know but the… the GD attack should have caused more chaos… destroyed more stuff… it only moved a couple cars in this season (which entirely changes in SoG with harumi’s flashbacks) which i thought was … weird, even when i was younger lol… but theres development of characters n all i think a lot of it is rad !

legacy of the green ninja: 6/10 - pretty good, i haven’t watched this in a while so i dont remember much but the end battle is Legendary so there’s extra points for that and also extra points for dareth being introduced hee hee

rebooted: 6/10 - the whole overlord and nindroids thing is … pretty cool ?? pixal and cyrus exist now so !!!! that adds points !!! when i was younger i remember watching zanes sacrifice a lot cuz i couldnt get over it, and now i can recite all the words off by heart … lol anyway i think this seasons ok 👍

tournament of elements: 8/10 - very good, i loved seeing the other elemental masters !!!! and chen is actually a very cool villain, especially when i was younger, i loved him then lol … the ending is kinda 😟 bc garmy technically dies but yea its a gud season C:

possession: 10/10 - this season is EVERYTHING???? the intro SLAPS, the whole aesthetic is incredible and not to mention theres a whole bunch of favourite characters content in this season so that adds extra points !!!! the story all flows smoothly and its just Mmmm so gud. i love it dearly, defo a comfort season i’ve watched it so many times

skybound: 7/10 - i can see why some people hate this season as the whole nadakhan marrying nya thing is VERY weird (even my cousin who was 6 at the time when we first watched it could tell that) … but theres extra points for 1. the whole misfortunes keep crew, i love them, and 2. the ninja replacements team, i also care them all so dearly … the lighting in this season is super good, and also the storyline threads together well, i just find it very Appealing how it goes back to how it started

hands of time: 4/10 - idk man its just … boring, i can’t really be interested enough to watch to the end of the season? extra points for acronix being pretty and the scruff moments tho lol…. also whats with more snake people …. cant be ninjago without snakes ig LMAO

day of the departed: 5/10 - i also just see this as a filler… i mean yes it tells how cole turned back from a ghost but otherwise it’s just kinda random but i still liked it

sons of garmadon: 7/10 - pretty good ! harumi is a very cool character tho i do think shes kinda selfish … like a lot of others probably lost family in the GD attack??? kind of confused … but the SoG group as a whole is VERY epic i love the designs for UV and mr E (killows design just throws me off tho… why Real Hands..)

hunted: 10/10 - SO damn good the storyline is EVERYTHING and i love how it switches POVs every so often to keep things on edge. its also pretty dark for a kids show and that makes it better, and the cinematics for this are all just AMAZING…. i care the dragon designs so much, mmmmmmmmmm beloveds :^)

march of the oni: 6/10 - wasted!!!!! potential!!!!! the oni were such a good show of fantastic character design and they were just….. taken out in like 5 seconds despite them literally being the embodiment of destruction? there was literally two seasons before this of the ninja dealing with one (1) embodiment of destruction and then when theres LOADS that make tentacle death clouds and are super OP they just … are defeated????? ok…… also what was the point in coles fall fr it just made me sad for no reason🙁

secrets of forbidden spinjitzu: 6/10 - the fire chapter was … cool ? i guess, wasn’t the most interesting, aspheera is hot tho lol😝(LITERALLY !!!!! Funny joke pls laugh.)also clutch being introduced adds points, love the stupid explorer man. the ice chapter is super dark, i loved seeing the never-realm and how everything worked there, and ?? evil zane ?!??!? sheeeeeesh that was a bold move that was super epic … i liked this part of the season :^0

prime empire: 10/10 - another comfort season YEAHHHHH !!!! the aesthetic !! so good !!! the characters r RAD like scott and okino and seven I LOVE THEM SO DEARLY ….. the soundtrack is RAD as well i listen to it plentifully …… the ending is happysad and i always go a bit cry when unagami and milton walk away together :’^)

master of the mountain: 8/10 - the whole slavery thing is … questionable but the skull sorcerer’s design is super awesome ! and the upply … i care them … :^)))) AND A COLE SEASON !!!! i loved the development for him !!! and the way that vania and cole stayed a friendship the whole time cuz it never implied they were gonna date or whatever which made me happy honestly … i rated it 8/10 as the extra points are from the upply

the island: shit/10 - what the fuck was that. the islanders were cool i liked their designs but seriously i hated the ending so bad like there was no reason for ronin to be the antagonist again … just let clutch steal the amulet and there you have it all set up for the next season whoooo

seabound: 9/10 - again i love the aesthetic, the glowy-ness of everything is so pretty in this, and the design for wojira is amazing … tho this season is super sad, im sure theres reasoning for the ending of it :)))))) the storyline is also very good in this ! it does actually make sense which sometimes doesnt happen ……...

It remains rare and it’s usually a gift from Legendaries Pokémons. It’s something I imagined when I saw the second movie in theaters, and it always stuck with me, because it’s fun?
