I really love how in Dan Da Dan, Okarun is sooooooooooo insecure that basically every single thing that happens makes him believe that Momo will stop being his friend.

(And isn’t that relatable af my dear socially awkward, low self-esteem friends?)

But Momo… Momo is always seeking out Okarun, always trying to include him, always wanting to talk to him and be with him.

And it’s so obvious to us, the viewers, that Momo loves Okarun soooo much, that she loves talking about aliens and ghosts with him! But it’s not to him! At all!!!

And not in a "oh it’s anime, of course the main guy won’t notice how the girl loves him" way, but in a "this guy really thinks that he’s unlikable and he’s wired to believe that everyone will leave him eventually" way.

Like… when Jiji shows up and Okarun sees how cool he looks and Grandma tells him that he’s Momo’s first love… he immediately thinks "That’s it. We’re done. She’ll never want to stay with me now that HE is here…". He’s jealous and he’s so scared that they’re "still in love". He thinks she’ll go out with Jiji, that she’ll stop liking the supernatural and only do things Jiji likes…

Meanwhile Momo is all like "why the FUCK is Jiji here? Okarun, help me get rid of him." And while they do bond over Jiji’s story, she very clearly doesn’t like him like that. She’s STILL seeking out Okarun, and she obviously won’t stop liking the supernatural because, yes, it’s something she likes to share with Okarun, but it’s also something that, by now, she likes period. It’s something they have in common and no pretty boy is gonna change that!

And it’s not just Jiji that’s threatening Okarun and Momo’s friendship in his mind, it’s everything. Everything he does, everything he says, every moment where he thinks he failed at something… because he’s just got no self-esteem at all.

Thankfully, Momo’s very vocal and straightforward about how he needs to stop pushing people away all the time, and even though sometimes she teases him a little too much, she’s got good intentions. She keeps doing and saying little things to reassure him. Like the whole "see you tomorrow" thing or how she goes out of her way to eat with him, how she always asks for his opinion or his help (like every time Aira says something batshit crazy, she always asks him "she’s still on with this shit?" It’s a detail, but I just love it so much). And Okarun didn’t change his whole mindset just because his new friend told him that he should "stop with the self-loathing already" two or three times. Something like that is obviously buried deep and it takes time and work to change and I love that they didn’t just make him suddenly all confident and shit.

Gosh I love this batshit insane anime and these crazy characters and their wonderful relationships!!!!

SO many feelings about him omgg rant under cut please forgive me

okay so i don't really talk or draw him much cause honestly,,,most of the times i just think he's a bit....boring? or more accurately plain? not in a mean way either but just in a 'fades into the background' type of way like don't get me wrong!! he's a really nice friend to his peers, his feelings about his powers and aura making his relationships harder to navigate and trust along with his whole conflict with nightmare and morality about what's good and bad IS very cool!! and i love it whenever they write him to be complex and not on this black and white mentality or when he's just straight up following along his friends with no free will or with a dubious purpose without ever addressing his issues or feelings! it's just unsatisfying to me :')

or when they're making him the 'naive' and oblivious, (sometimes childish?) character being marked as the obstacle and villain along with the other star sanses from the fic's pov, always talking about doing good things while fighting his brother and not hearing him out about the balance, (and for weak reasons most of the time. like it's been so long and you STILL haven't sat down with him when he's, generally, basically begged you to just have a talk? guys please :'( ) or when they go for the victim sad dream always missing the old nightmare, where corrupted nightmare is the incarnation of evil, with no sympathy or emotion except anger and sadistic glee, killing and hurting everyone and dream's just trying to protect the multiverse and dream's always been in the right. such extremes!!!

LIKE!! i hope i'm not the only one that thinks a 500+ year old should have had enough time to idk. learn things? about people and manipulation and deceit? after knowing what the villagers did to night? about the bad things in the world and how there's a lot of grey areas in life and that he maybe reflected on his past enough to process and ask himself if there should to be a convo to settle his differences with nightmare (and you can make nightmare the stubborn one too! or have them BOTH be petty and imperfect and have some things wrong and some right at the same time like why do i always see the good guy vs bad guy cliché with these two when they're the perfect example of why positivity doesn't have meaning without the negativity!! as long as there's a satisfying evolution or growth that doesn't leave me empty i'm good yknow?)

plus i believe dream really isn't as dumb as people view him. i do get some of you saying he probably can't read or write since that's actually a pretty interesting idea to explore! but in general please let him have emotions other than pure sunshiny happiness or endless sadness like he's gotta have more depth than that! let him make mistakes, have flaws that don't just make him the bad guy that's always in the wrong by default, and be angry or suspicious or jealous or bitter or battling his mental health problems/depression or malicious or smart or witty or mischievous and silly or sarcastic or ANYTHING dude i just want him to be put into different scenarios where he can be serious or lighthearted like it doesn't even have to be long or perfect but make him feel real.

it could definitely be that i don't read or see much art about dream or really look for it hard enough but also i just. i feel bad for even saying this fr and i wanna be honest about why i don't enjoy most stories about him cause he always gets the worst treatment along with ink!!! especially ink omg the poor guy has it the worst i think like wow do they mess him up :'(

always one dimensional in non shippy fics, or too plain or easily replaceable by other, more entertaining people in the significant other's life in most of his ships like man. i have read fics out there that made me genuinely FEEL and root for him and love his character so much it restored all hope for me!!! but i can only name one on top of my head and the others? it's been so long i don't even remember their names i just legit feel terrible cause i love him still and i can't find many headcanons that fit my interpretation of him yknow?

not to say people who write him very happy, mislead or sad are ruining him like that's silly- if i see something i don't like i just. move on bro i wouldn't force people to feel or think the same way i do about him cause anyone can have whatever headcanons they want!!! just talking about what i personally look for in him and why i can't exactly find it since most of the stuff out there just isn't my cup of tea :')

i'm 50 years old, i'm doing my research at the mups, technically at least.

in reality, i'm very rarely there. i run a small sanctuary for eevee on a tiny island next to motu mana and that's where i'm most of the time. i'm researching eevee by the way.

the only real connection i have to the uni is that i teach a small seminar on eevee each semester and they thankfully give me money for the sanctuary.

It is a simple fact of life to anyone who knows her that Abby is a Menace. Not in the way that Cole or Lena or Genji are… but a Menace all the same. [ Usually to herself, how-ever unwittingly or not. ]

She had been told, of course, in the vaguest terms that the one [ temporarily ] being held in confinement ��– [ it was at least more like a room than a cell with plenty of things to entertain but still so solitary when not being visited by the various doctors and other related professionals as they passed through ] –– had a high potential to be dangerous, and yet… She knows what it’s like to be trapped in a room with only strangers passing through to pry into your condition, to pester you with every question under the sun, to poke and to prod and to test. She had hated it then, and she can’t imagine that anyone would feel any differently about it.

So, she approaches the [ containment ] room that had been constructed specifically for him during this period of time––to be certain his transition to be out with the others could be peacefully done––and walks right up to the not-glass and stops.

“Hello,” she greets with a smile and then hesitates, perhaps the slightest bit fidgety––fingers tapping out a repetitive pattern on the strap of the bag slung over her shoulder––though it isn’t to do with him. At least, not really. It has quite a bit to do with the concept of such a cold introduction to an unknown with not the slightest idea what to say. 

She quickly settles on the truth.

“My name is Abigail––though, Abby is what I prefer, actually––and I was wondering if you might like some company for a little while?” she questions, then suddenly, as though remembering, she brings her bag around in front of her and flips it open, fishing out a device and holding it up for him to see.

“I brought an old holopad of mine that I factory reset and then loaded different books and other media onto it? I didn’t know exactly the kind of things you might like, and I know you won’t be able to access the ‘net with it––” Considering the safety measures they have in place, “––but, I downloaded a fairly broad range so maybe something might appeal to you… ?”
