A US plan to deliver aid to Gaza from a floating pier at sea will be fraught with potential logistical and security challenges. More than 1,000 US troops are expected to participate in the operation although the Pentagon says there will be no "boots on the ground". With a title like Countdown, Jensen Ackles' incredibly welcome return to series TV had better be packing the explosive twists. "You will get them," promises showrunner Derek Haas. "And by the time we get to the climax, it gets even more literal."

That's saying a lot given that Prime Video's new thriller-a pulse- pounding, guns-blazing homage to '80s hit films such as Lethal Weapon, Die Hard and Tango & Cash about a covert task force racing to save L.A. from catastrophe is surprising from the get-go. Within the first 10 minutes we get a big-name cameo, an OMG! ground-chase sequence that ends tragically for a Homeland Security officer and a wisecracking Ackles in prison garb. It's clear this show is here for a good time, not a grim time.

"The last 20 years of television- not in a bad way-[has embraced] the sort of dark sensibility where if you have a detective, it's like they're so haunted by the job, they drink and all of these things," assesses Haas, who, among other credits, cocreated Chicago Fire and codeveloped Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. This new series, he says, is the opposite: a classic popcorn entertainment with cheeky heroes, smart dialogue and practical stunts galore. "I just like the fun vibe of those old movies."

Luckily, he had a kindred spirit in Ackles. The actor was quick to sign on as nonchalant LAPD homicide officer Mark Meachum after hearing how Countdown's adrenalized action and smart-ass heroics were embedded in his own DNA by 15 seasons as Supernatural's demon hunting Dean Winchester.

Haas' charter was to "create this character around Ackles, who'd have fit perfectly in the world of Die Hard. He's such a great actor; you can't match his energy, and he's genuinely hilarious." "I certainly knew Derek's pedigree," admits Ackles, adding that the two "hit it off right away" after realizing they'd both grown up in north Texas. "Then I got a clear sense of what he wanted to do. I was like, 'Oh, this is not only in my old wheelhouse, it's the stuff I grew up being attracted to."

"And it's not just Ackles' Meachum saving the day. In the series opener, he's teamed with a colorful cadre handpicked by an old pal, Special Agent Nathan Blythe (Euphoria's Eric Dane). Among them: FBI-ers Evan Shepherd (Violett Beane) and Keyonte Bell (Elliot Knight), DEA pro Amber Oliveras (Jessica Camacho) and narcotics transfer Lucas Finau (Uli Latukefu). The idea for this off-the-books Avengers-like team capable of witty banter and badassery, Haas confesses, was inspired by a technical adviser on Chicago P.D. who had told him that the government often recruits experts from various branches for task forces.

"I thought this whole world was really interesting, the idea that they're all-stars, that you could have these rebel personalities in each department put into a squad led by somebody who is very good at his job," Haas says. So while the team mission is life-or-death, their methods are lightened by gallows humor. And, this being TV, plenty of character development.

"You really get a sense of who these people are," agrees Ackles. "Not just together as the team, but individually. That lets the audience invest in the characters and not just the story."

There was a similar investment off camera. Haas brought in two consultants and the cast went through gun training. Camacho spoke to "many different law-enforcement agents and officers," went on a ride-along and sat in with a task force. "Every day they're facing high stakes and have to be on high alert," she marvels. "It creates this deep embedded sense of camaraderie between them and their partners." Much like the ties that formed during Countdown's long days and many night shoots in L.A., apparently. "There was a disgusting amount of chemistry that was formed very quickly off set that lends itself to on-set chemistry," says Ackles.

"The cast members and Derek watched the first three episodes," recalls Camacho of a key bonding moment. "We were screaming with joy. It was so exciting. We're like, 'Oh my God, Derek, this is a ride!'  Will viewers be just as clocked in to Countdown? "I think they're going to be shocked a few times through the course of 13 episodes," teases Haas. "They're not going to be happy with me several times." But mostly, they'll be getting hours of pleasure.

Countdown premieres Wednesday June 25 on Prime Video.

I wanted to make a last-minute prediction post based on what I’ve seen so far. I haven’t looked at new Dragon Age news for the past couple (3? 4?) weeks, and I know I’m (on purpose to avoid spoilers) missing some (probably a lot of) details that other people already know. I DON’T WANT TO KNOW. So if I’m already right or wrong about something,

PLEASE please DON’T TELL ME.

You can come back in a month and tell me THEN. It’s just one more month to wait.

Also, this is just for fun, and it’s not serious. It’s based on vibes and also based on what I would write myself. I have developed a surprisingly specific image of what might happen to Solas and I’m just want to write it down.

I’m thinking “there is no possible way this is right………” but then I’m like “unless…..?” so a vague chance of potential spoilers

First, I’ve been suspicious about the elven gods getting free and Solas being trapped. If you think about what Solas says in Trespasser, it’s very

Part of Solas’ aim that has so far been revealed to us is he likely wants the Veil torn down, and one of the only things that is keeping him from that is the reality of the elven gods trapped in there, who would be released.

Inquisitor: “If you destroyed the Veil, wouldn’t the false gods be freed?”

Solas: “I had plans.”

But that is no longer a concern from that moment in the gameplay trailer where they are released. 

“I intend to restore them. Doing so will most likely destroy your world.”

Two elven gods rampaging across Thedas sounds like the kind of “the world is being destroyed” situation Solas was talking about. It is his incision that breached their prison, and it isn’t impossible that Rook may have been almost manipulated into completing it. I wonder if Solas is playing his two sets of enemies against each other yet again?

In the old tales, Solas uses his enemies to fight each other while he is tied to a tree, trapped. He gives both sides equal advice until they are both defeated, at which point he frees himself and finishes what he set out to do. 

Honestly, even though he’s “trapped,” it sounds exactly like the sort of thing that needs to happen for his work to continue.

(All of this is speculation that I think I’ll have a better idea about once I hear the full first conversation with him, and exactly how he words his point of view of what happened. If he’s very squirrelly in his wording, I’ll know he may have caused it on purpose.)

“I seek regeneration,” he said in Vows & Vengeance. The devs had said that Solas has been bringing back magic for centuries before the series even started. Perhaps it explains why the dragons have returned. It seems that his reshaping the world, regenerating it, will be successful because it seems to be moving steadily without him. So maybe this is a last and, once in motion, inevitable step in “healing” the injured world.

I think that the elven gods are very scary and world-ending, but Solas is the only one of them that reshaped the world successfully. He will be the one to do it again, not Ghilan’nain or Elgar’nan or any other god. He is a trickster his, and Tricksters are the Gods of Inevitable (otherwise catastrophic) Change.

One of the greatest criticisms of Inquisition was the lack of screen time Corypheus had. And how the climax fell flat at the end because he didn’t have enough screen time. This leads me to believe that Solas may be the “Last Boss” of DA4. Because we definitely HAVE a complicated satisfying personal relationship with him that has been set up for two whole games.

So the ending for Solas needs to do a lot of things:

“These are the times in which legends are born or slain” Solas as the Dread Wolf will die

It needs to work for both people who love and hate Solas

In order to defeat the Elven Gods, Rook has to find their weakness, which is Solas’ weakness too (maybe a fatal flaw, or how they can be truly killed) so it can be used on Solas too. Perhaps this will involve Solas trying to obscure this from Rook as best as he can

Solas fully is on Rook’s side against the evanuris, but when they’re taken care of, he doesn’t need to team up anymore

I don’t believe that you will be able to stop Solas’ plans, and I hope that they will change Thgedas’ world no matter what. I hope it’s just a fact of life that the Veil comes down

The story basically needs to involve Solas betraying Rook again, because new players need to experience that feeling in order to be in the same place with him as they were in DA3

It needs to give players a torn situation about him, one that makes you feel he’s reasonable but at the same time make it satisfying to fight him. So I believe this is why he will betray the player again, even if he is getting along with them.

I believe there needs to be a boss fight against Solas because he does have a cool big monster form and people have been promised to be able to kill him

It needs to be satisfying for those who romanced him too, but it also needs to be beautifully sad because part of the draw of the romance compared to all the others in the series is that it’s beautifully sad

For that reason, I suspect (not because I particularly want this to happen, I’m just saying what I see most likely) is that fighting and killing Solas may not actually be optional, and he is killed in every worldstate. This way, everyone gets a last boss fight and everyone experiences pretty much the same story without much branching 

I think the difference between friendly and unfriendly version may be whether he is brought back to life by the efforts of those who care about him after he is killed

So basically:

Veil comes down/magic comes back

Solas helps Rook take down evanuris

Solas betrays Rook when it seems the story should be over

Boss fight with Solas as the Dread Wolf (see: my Tulpa Theory)

Solas is defeated and killed

Story ends there if Solas is hated, (story about Rook getting revenge)

If Solas is loved, Solas is brought back and rebirthed in another freer form through a spirit ritual, perhaps as Wisdom, but some part of it is bittersweet like Rose and Doctor 10 (story about regret).

But basically, no matter how Solas and Lavellan’s story ends, their love enduring will be the path to joy, or them being together. Rook can kill Solas and Lavellan can bring him back. Even if it has to just happen off-screen or in fanfic.

I think it is very likely that Solas kills Varric or another character as a way to transition from passive threat to active threat. Or maybe Rook is responsible because of the theme of regret, idk. But I think we’ll get a great cathartic end for Varric probably.

I think we may have to choose between Varric and the Inquisitor, because it’s similar to the Hawke-Alistair choice

I would be very surprised if the story ended with Solas and Lavellan went off into the sunset together in a perfectly happy ending with nothing bittersweet. But sadly, I don’t really see this happening and I think bittersweet may be the name of the game.

Other things I predict:

We can assume that the Inquisitor will have an optional death scenario when they reappear, where we choose either to let them sacrifice themselves in some way, or save them. So perhaps there is an ending where Solas and Lavellan die together and can be free as spirits, which would also be bittersweet.

I don’t really have predictions for anything but Solas, so the big lore reveals might change the situation so much that none of this applies or makes sense anymore. In which case I will probably be HAVING FUN.

I am not EXPECTING any of this to happen, I am just writing it down and posting it in case I’m right. Anyway please wait until I’m done playing to tell me if I’m right or wrong, and this is just for fun, I wouldn’t mind if the whole game was completely different.

# Invincible - Platonic Yandere Mark Grayson (PROFILE)

Type of Yandere: Mark as a platonic yandere would be clingy and overprotective over his sibling. You wanted to go hang out with some friends? Fine, but only if he could tag along. You insist he doesn't come? Then expect a pair of eyes watching you at all times. He'll need to know where you're at, what you're doing, and who you're with. If he doesn't approve of your friend(s) then he'll insist you cut them off. And if you don't? Then your friends will be forced to distance themselves from you after a “talk” with your brother.

Love Language: As a brother, Mark's love language would consist of hugs, ruffling of your hair, and quality time spent with each other. Your his favorite person in the whole world, so he'll want to spend as much time with you as possible!

Their Biggest Fear: Much like the other yandere profile I did for Mark his biggest fear when it came to you would be losing you completely. But the difference here would be losing you because of something he did or failed to prevent. He wouldn't go out of his way to harm you but he may set something up (like a traumatic catastrophic event) to prove to you why you need to keep him close by at all times.

Kidnapping: He wouldn't need to. If you were born into the family then there'd be no point in kidnapping. But if this was a found family situation then he would with some help from the other Grayson's no doubt since they’re also obsessed with you. But again much like the other yandere profile I did for Mark, he wouldn't see it as kidnapping. Just something he had to do out of necessity.

How Easy is it to Escape?: Impossible. Platonic yandere Mark would know your whereabouts at all times which means he's keeping tabs on everything. Who you're talking to, your favorite places to go to, and even information on your friends.

Punishment(s): Mark wouldn't be against locking you in your room no matter how old you were. If you were simply misbehaving and speaking out then he'd be the one to take your phone away, and if things continued to escalate then he'd ban you from seeing your friends and basically keep you isolated until you've apologized and learned what you did wrong.

Difference to Other Yanderes: Mark not only has his overpowered abilities but an even stronger father to help keep you in line if his tactics somehow didn't work. Mark is just a piece of the puzzle with the other Grayson's making the entire picture.

Additional Notes: As an older brother, Mark would take on that paternal vibe with how overprotective he'd get. As a younger brother he'd be overbearing (not to say he isn't if he were older just more so). Platonic Yandere Mark wouldn't want to hurt his younger sibling and if he ever did then he'd do everything he can to make up for it.

Hello! I have a question, so I have an OC that has ASPD and I feel like I'm struggling to show the symptoms of it in my writings for them, I don't want to make their whole personality their discord but I also kinda want to show that something isn't completely alright with them, is there any subtle ways of writing/showing ASPD? I'm really sorry if this question is confusing!

Hi ^^ That'll highly depend on your individual character and the type of ASPD symptom combination you're trying to portray, as well as the individuals personal stance towards their symptoms, their therapy progress and what type of society you're writing the character into! So these suggestions might not fit/you may need to adjust them regarding those points:

• having unconventional ways of showing love/appreciation/affection => imagine character A. struggling with something and character B. comes along, plops a cat in their lap, says "found that around the corner, now smile", cus B. knows that A. likes cats and that that may comfort them, so they grab a random cat to cheer them up, or yk stuff like that? just something that would make other characters around them go "wtf?" but that is at its core still motivated by wanting the other person to feel better and just not knowing how to do it in conventional ways

• a sort of possessive aggressive attitude that may have to be reigned in by the partner/friends/parents/etc. at times => imagine character A. talks about having been accidentally pushed by another shopper and character B. just aggressively mumbles threats immediately, or character A. wants to go out with friends and character B. asks if they need a bodyguard to bash the touchy douchebags into the wall. and character A. going "hey reign in the violence please, this situation doesn't require that" or sum? if you get the vibe? sort of in the way that shows that character B's first instinct is to react aggressively and that they don't know in which situation its appropiate, but A. casually reminds them of it

• casually throwing in an absence of prosocial reactions => mentioning them not seeming very moved by a catastrophe, remarking how their emotions dont seem to go very deep, touching on a lack of social skills, showing that their relationships dont seem to be too emotionally involved, etc. but just...casually? like "...everyone was crying, lying in each others arms, as the TV showed the bomb detonate and the rubble crumble down, burying bodies beneath it. it took a while for everyone to calm down, A. was wiping the tears of their cheeks, C. had their head buried in B's arms, who had been as unbothered as usual trough the whole thing and soon went to make tea for everyone, as D. declared they needed some distraction" => including B. in the group dynamic but still making sure to hint that they don't care about the event itself. you can alter how obvious you wanna make it and whether you'd like to leave room for doubt...like as to whether they just seem unbothered or actually are, whether they make insensitive comments or not, etc.

• showing impulsivity/irresponsibility as a sort of playful/funny thing to the group => "A. asked: 'where the fuck is this duck coming from', as they watched C. sitting on a blanket under a tree, with a duck nibbling away on some crumbs next to them. 'I dont know, I think B. stole it from the pond or something? He keeps dragging in new animals, can't keep himself from picking them up', C. answered, grinning at their friend. 'well at least hes no longer going after peoples pets...', D giggled as they plopped down next to C. 'remember how furious old Mrs. Maddison was when B. knicked her cat for a few hours to see how many mice it would chase before it got tired? that cat refused to move a single inch afterwards', the three broke out in laughter at the memory" => bit less subtle, but you know just casually remarking on how the ASPD character stole something, or is gonna be like "chill I'll give it back in a bit...probably", or is absolutely oblivious that they did something mean/against the law, because their friends think its funny? casually remarking on them not going to work, not turning in assignments a la " 'are they coming into work today?' 'its B. so of course not' " etc.

• showing the lack of remorse as an accepted not uncommon response while highlighting the way they go around it => " C. smiled at the roses in the glass vase on the table, carefully touching them with their fingers. 'Did B. apologize for what they did', A. asked, sitting down opposite of their friend. 'B. doesn't do apologies, but I woke up to these roses, so we're good', C. smiled, 'Its not like they'd feel sorry anyway, as long as they try to make me feel better I don't have a reason to complain', they added with a shrug" => depends on the dynamic and what type of apologies parties require ofc, but showing the alternative way of cheering the other up and showing that B. recognized its needed? casually throwing in that they wouldnt feel sorry anyway, but C. is satisfied with it and thats all that matters? that sorta stuff

• hinting at a bad family history that explains a behavior they show => " A. put an arm around C. and shook her head: 'I cant believe B. would just leave you here after a literal argument, what an ass, did not one teach him how to treat a partner?' C. put her arm around A.'s waist and laughed bitterly: 'Who should have? That absent father of his or his mother who'd just slap him for every mistake. No, its no wonder B. ran at the first opportunity. He'll be back, he always is' " => not too on the nose in regards to ASPD specifically, but giving background info that hints at trauma and having problems because of it.

And yeah...you basically do that with every symptom you wanna show. Making a condition less obvious and less central is usually done by giving the character people that are used to it and make it seem normal, by putting them in a society where those behaviors are less judged, or by showing some progress of working around it while still highlighting that it causes issues! The phone rings the speaker picks it up and in the space of not even 30 seconds I managed to knock over my drink throw my phone and kick the cat in an effort to turn off the speaker Bluetooth and answer the call. So as perfectly reasonable response I yelled shit fuck. Which is the first thing my dad heard me say.

So he's like "bad time?🤨" in the kind of deadpan tone that can only be earned through being on the receiving end of this conversation on a regular basis where your allegedly independent adult child answers the phone in the midst of casual catastrophe(s). And while I personally could easily take all the credit for this as my life does bear a startling resemblance to a three stooges slapstick routine at times, it really makes me wonder about my siblings because it is a known fact that my brother will regularly have meandering nonchalant phone conversations while simultaneously tits deep in disaster and while my sister holds the vaunted position of least calamity prone sibling that's a low bar. How often does this happen to that Dad has simply resigned to his position as spectator to his loony-toones-esque progeny that he can answer the phone to a mel blanc scream and be entirely unphased?

I guess I've been loitering about this for too long

I've always thought of Nevy as of one of the smartest and cuning demons in the cast. Instead of terrorising her vessel or beign their doormat, she formed a strong bond with Gil. And I was thinking it is genuine somewhat mother (or like older sister) love from Nevy to our lil salty blue boy.

But... from this panel, I've started to doubt her.

Most of the fandom at that time was worring that the pink lady is becoming weaker and/or growing sick. But even then I was thinking that being the ghost of one of the strongest creatures in the universe, how is it possible for her to be that weak for such a short period of time as like ~13ish years?

Gil is the only person she has met who can interact with her. I can't really blame her for beign pushy: he and his promise to help are the only thing she's got, and she as practically immortal being has seen how weak he is, and his life is short. Nevy really is on a timer with him.

But what seemed to me as her caring about Gil, now feels like Nevy thinking only about herself.

Gil, as a victim of terrible catastrophe decided to become a doctor to help others like him. It was natural for him to go and help those who were in need.

Now this moment doesn't feel like her genuine sadness and guilt. I think, she just needed a reassurrence, that she is still the most important thing for him in the whole universe.

Still, I've thought that Nevy has developed a new more honest and loving personality while being amnisiac. And she changed that much because she remembered a lot of her past.

But did she?

I think Gil will never get out of toxic cult. Yes, he does have someone who is more important than TITAN as Michelle said.

And I think she's forcing Gil to fall in love with Odin just to make him even more despirate and lonely, to save her status as the only reliable thing for him in the whole Universe.

At that point Gil was trying to become the best follower, just to have a chance to learn somethig about Nevy's past. Maggie was the first person in 8 years to remind him, that he might have his own questions.

kai would be very likely to hold grudges (as a front) and is petty 24/7. passive aggressive. but when alone he’s just. sad. a lot of self blaming. wondering when or how did it go wrong, or did he do something that pissed jay off

as for jay, i think he didn’t really feel anything at first and is trying to laugh it off all the time. but as time passes he just sorta . forgots. accidentally bought two lunches. unconsciously bought kai’s favorite snacks. almost got two movie tickets thinking “ooh kai would love this movie” and almost texted kai to rant about his whole day

also I feel like the team involvement could go one of two ways — either neither of them says a WORD to anyone and the rest of them are just left in the dark thinking wtf happened u guys . everyone’s deeply uncomfortable but they’re too scared to ask . OR they both tell their side of the story to everyone separately, in graphic detail, and now the team has to live with two conflicting narratives and no desire to be involved

and kai’s brand of post-breakup coping is absolutely “i am fine actually :)” . And once he finally hauls himself out of his 3 month long heartbreak spiral it’s followed by a catastrophic rebound relationship that not a single person buys as legit . except jay who kills himself instantly

Someone (@ang3l0fde4th4ndd0gs, thank you soooo much for letting me write this, I had so much fun with it) mentioned the marauders as Minecraft YouTubers, and… why does it work so well??? Also, Peter doesn’t exist in this one (at least he’s not in their Minecraft world) because I said so, sorry to the Peter apologists out there.

Like Remus 100% is a redstone guy, he loves learning how to make the game more efficient. I also think he found the game by accident. He was doom-scrolling YouTube one night, and he saw this video of a guy explaining the basics of the game. Intrigued, he downloaded it to see what was up, and oh, he found out. His gamertag is definitely “moony” like be so fr, he didn’t have the energy to be clever, and it’s not like he made his account expecting to become some famous YouTuber or anything. Very quickly, Remus found ways to improve the game, and he felt the need to show people his discoveries. So, he started his career by posting these short videos on how to automate a chicken farm or something, and it just spiraled from there. People start watching his videos about his new ideas, like mob farms or like elevators (before bubble elevators were a thing), and they just fall in love. Oh! He definitely has a feral fan base (all the boys do), there’s just something about his nerdy vibe that gets the girlies going crazy even though they don’t know what he looks like. Because Remus would not have a face cam, he’s really big on his privacy, obviously (he knows about the dangers of the internet), but it’s also his insecurities getting to him. He’s scared that he’ll spook his fans away if they saw his scars, so he actively avoids any comments about how he looks irl. we also know how fans react to a faceless youtuber, they loveee to fantasize about what he looks like, amd like his voicve doesnt help at all (I mean it's so dreamy). every ine is still really supportive of his choice t be faceless, there have been a few who tried to find his identity but the overprotective og fans shut that down pretty quickly. Also also, speaking of looks, his skin is definitely a werewolf head wearing a jumper and jeans, Sirius and James spent a whole day at the computer designing the skin for him (this is before they joined the game, they’re were just so proud of their moony for doing this and wanted to support him the best they could) and Remus didn’t have it in him to change it (especially when they were practically buzzing with excitement to show him). 

Now, as for Sirius, I feel like he would be the builder of the group. I imagine him walking by Remus on the computer one day and seeing the catastrophe that was his world, and like having to fix it. That’s actually how he was introduced to YouTube. Remus was filming a video at the time, and his mic caught Sirius’s rant about color schemes and attention to detail, so when the video came out, Remus's fans begged to get more content with this new personality. It took some time for Sirius to actually start making videos; he wanted to learn how the game worked first (I mean, he wouldn’t want to embarrass himself in front of thousands of people). But once Sirius figured out the controls and the majority of the basics, he made his first real appearance on Remus’s channel. The video was a normal Moony video, just somewhere in the middle of explaining how he got the idea for a piston door and him explaining how he built it, in came this emo character (I’m thinking 2012 emo hair, band tee with a paw print, and ripped black jeans) named “padfoot” (Remus was already moony so he might as well have stuck with the theme). He wasn’t really in the video. Remus only made a passing comment on how “pads did promise to make the world pretty for you guys, you should check it out,” and everyone was hooked. It didn’t take that long for people to find his channel, starting with Remus’s fans who were happy for more content, but he did start gaining his own audience, too. People were definitely attracted to Sirius’s attitude (especially when he would grumble about his neighbor's advice experiments ruining his aesthetic) and his building style. I think Sirius tried to stay faceless as long as possible, but at some point, Sirius couldn't take it anymore, so he made a public insta (making sure to keep Remus out of it, he respects his friends' privacy) for his fans. Everyone went CRAZY when they saw how hot he was, like the fanfics came at an ungodly speed.

James really only joined the game due to his crazy case of fomo. Multiple days would he be looking for his roommates (because they are definitely roommates in this au) for someone to hang out with, only to walk by Remus’s room to see him on the computer talking to his fans, then to go the Sirius’s room to see the same thing. He spent a week pouting before Sirius and Remus invited him to join their fun. You should have seen the speed James had when he ran to the closest computer and set up an account. And that’s how “Prongs,” the character wearing a red and gold jersey, joined the world, completing the Marauders, which the fans loved to refer to the group as (they heard James refer to them as it in a video, and they were ecstatic to have a name for their favorite group of YouTubers). James, unlike Sirius, started his YouTube journey by learning the game. His first video, titled “You Can’t Hide Minecraft From Me, What is Minecraft?”, involved James running around the world, confused as ever. He cried when he saw a creeper for the first time. Fans loved watching James learn this game with them, it was a great change in pace from his two friends, who (they love and would never complain about) were goated at the game and instead see this himbo sob in a dirt hut. James’s fan base very quickly realized that he was not going to be this evolutionary Minecrafter who would change the game for the better, more than he was the personality hire (their words, not mine) that Remus and Sirius would spend way too much energy keeping alive. James didn't necessarily want to be a faceless YouTuber or show his face, but a few weeks after making his own Insta, Sirius posted a picture with James, and he went with it. After some begging from Sirius and his fans (people went crazy knowing the himbo in Minecraft was also a himbo irl), James went and made a profile for Prongs. He doesn't post much, but he is constantly tagged in posts by Sirius.

Everyone loved the dynamic between the Marauders: they had the brains, the beauty, and James. They tried to stay in Remus's og world as long as possible, but at some point, it couldn't keep up with all the updates, so they had to say goodbye to that one and make a new one. Fans were very upset about the end to this era until they realized they were going to be able to watch the Marauders build a new place from the ground up with all their knowledge. Watching Remus and Sirius combine their collective strengths to make all of James's wacky ideas into the coolest base known to the Minecraft world was so cool. I also feel like the boys avoid creativity like the plague. Remus feels like it's cheating, and the other two listen to him. Sirius will only use it when absolutely necessary, when a build is giving him a hard time and he like has to map it out.

I have no idea how legible my handwriting is + to elaborate more, heres further deets-

Sulu and Alpha: Both super close best friends but have a whole herd of elephants in the room they wont talk about from their past. Outside of not talking about certain things, they enjoy each other's company and get along naturally. They went to college together and are currently coworkers.

Sulu and Function: Start off with a comical hero/nemesis thing that is largely perpetuated by Function. Function causes a lot of chaos that Sulu has to fix in his job, but Sulu understands that Function doesnt realize what hes doing + thinks hes pretty funny which helps him rekindle positive emotions in the throes of apathetic depression. Eventually they have a puppydog romantic relationship and are very happy together. However Function never had to wrestle with the concept of "depression" which causes a lot of complications between the two.

Alpha and Function: Alpha was waaaaay more suspicious of Function at first but eventually as time went on she realized hes not a threat and the two become good friends. Theyre both rowdy and extroverted and go on crazy adventures together. Alpha loves Function as a friend and thinks hes a riot, but shes very cautious about him being in a relationship with Sulu because shes seen Sulu bungle relationship after relationship and doesnt want that to happen to Function, whos still learning about how to be a person. Function thinks Alpha is the smartest person in the world.

Function and Cassiopeia: It takes Function awhile to socialize with people other than Sulu but when he does, anyone who knows more about the universe than him (which is basically anyone) he idolizes. He thinks both Cassiopeia and Alpha are like divine pillars of knowledge. Cassiopeia thinks hes funny as hell and likes going out drinking with him.

Cassiopeia and Alpha: Alpha, Cassiopeia and Sulu all knew each other in their early 20's and had a classic catastrophic ""love triangle"" that dissolved their friend group. Alpha liked Cassiopeia, Cassiopeia had no idea and liked Sulu, and Sulu thought Cassiopeia didnt actually care about a relationship/him and placed little value on it. Things blew up, they went their separate ways for years, Alpha and Cassiopeia only reconnected later in their 30s when it finally worked out. They have a nice, stable, happy romantic relationship.

Cassiopeia and Sulu: Cassiopeia and Sulu were in a vague relationship in their 20s. Sulu assumed Cassiopeia was just there for the vibes and didnt realize she actually liked him for real, as such he tactlessly dropped the relationship casually. This was very hurtful to her and his carelessness made her think very low of him. Sulu feels an insane amount of guilt about the whole thing and is constantly trying to make up for it (albeit in still sort of a yellow bellied way of using material items as opposed to actually taking about it), Cassiopeia kind of takes advantage of this (ie. sulu paying for her spaceflix account). They sort of have to reconcile things because Shes dating Alpha whos best friends with Sulu, and they all like hanging out with Function, but there were some rocky moments and theyre still on iffy grounds.

Akizet - The Hunt like. look at her. but no genuinely if anyone in corru would be a willing avatar it would be akizet. in life, she was a surface-runner. now, in her death, she turns those skills she learned on supposed 'monsters'. she enjoys the chase and that enjoyment in turn disgusts her. in combat, she is capable. either as a cornered prey animal or starving predator.

Idril - The Spiral not victim, not avatar, but a secret third thing. she has a weird mutualistic relationship with the spiral. she willingly subjects herself to it, unafraid, and since it cannot sow fear in her, it moves around her. untouched by it, idril can then work on it, an unfocused gaze comprehending madness. symbiosis.

Tozik - The Eye listen. he literally says 'it knows me'. he is afflicted with terrible knowledge and it is actively killing him. he is often burdened by knowledge. unwilling to speak unless he knows how to utilize it properly. where he would have previously been aligned with the eye, the contact affliction dooms him to it.

Bozko - The Slaughter gestures vaguely. equal parts victim and unwilling participant. he doesnt find any joy in the slaughter but he engages regardless. even if that is not a real choice, it is an active one. and that is all it takes. no amount of trying to throw his life away after erases the fact that when it mattered, he persisted.

Gakvu - The Extinction assigning any character extinction is hard but gakvu hits the mark for me. deeply horrified at the concept of catastrophe, masked with sarcasm and nonchalance. an acceptance that feels at odds with her refusal to go down easy. she understands the gravity of things more than maybe anyone.

Telyu - The Lonely isolated, even in close proximity to others. her cloaking skin gives her a tangible disconnect from the rest of the world. hiding her away. keeping her safe. and that is without even mentioning the loss of her team. the sharp way she speaks about it, pained but never too vulnerable. never too attached.

Cavik - The Web this one is very vibes-based, i will admit. unwavering faith in a plan that is not his despite the distress it causes, starting combat afraid. it all feels like it could be subtle manipulation by the web. like he is being strung along. and while he does not actively realize it, the subconscious knows. it is hard to recognize manipulation when its someone you care about, after all.

Kazki - The Web putting the web assignments together. but kazki has the whole spider thing going on. and the implications that she knows more than shes letting on. really i could also see vast for her, though. but not being in control of where her friends are seems to really distress her. which works for web!

Karik - The Buried karik is not so much scared of the collapse as they are aware of it. working to avoid it, moving around it. they are vulnerable. it would take very little to crush them. yet they are active in the face of it. really it would be more correct to say that theyre at odds with the buried.

Miltza - The Stranger the stranger has always been tied to art and miltza is, among other things, a sculptor. but otherwise the concept of a grand ascension, a joining with a thing beyond 'humanity' is a very stranger concept. theres also a sense of belonging in being part of the collective unknown of the stranger. it is what she pleads for.

Itzil - The Stranger another set of assignments. but for itzil, they are distinctly the victim. convinced everyone is fake, everyone is against them. a mate whos face splits in two, a parasite wearing the groundsmind. revenge and desperation spell disaster when you think anyone could be a liar.

c!Dream: listen, I know what you might be thinking this one so obvious is The Web. Well I would typically agree, but I feel like there’s just something more to this one, you know. Like The Web is very fitting, depending on which version of c!Dream you like to look at. Idk if that’s true but that’s just what I’ve noticed based off seeing c!Tommy fans talking about c!Dream and c!Dream fans but I digress, not the time for that huge can of worms. I could also vaguely see The Hunt but all and all, he’s both The Web and The Hunt, just The Hunt isn’t as strong.

c!Tommy: The Lonely is what I think fits best for him. He spends all of his time just trying to get someone to stay or stick with him, while simultaneously pushing people away. He’s trying with everyone he can but he ends up alone, either by his own doing or because of the actions of the people around him. Even for the people who tried to stick by his side aka Tubbo, he still manages to push him away/have Tubbo push Tommy away.

c!Tubbo: The Extinction fits Tubbo’s vibes in my humble opinion. Obviously the nukes are a big contributor to this thought but the Extinction has a lot to do with humanity destroying itself or catastrophic change which I also think does fit c!Tubbo. The absolute change of personality he’s gone through just overtime and the way he watches the server destroy itself/how he destroys himself really seems to me that the Extinction fits the vibes.

c!Wilbur: The Desolation/Spiral are the contenders here. I think both for pretty clear reasons so I don’t have to go too in depth here. Wilbur loses his mind throughout Pogtopia before having a quite explosive end. The Desolation’s whole thing is the fear of destruction and burning etc but especially for a senseless cause, now sure, you could say that Wilbur blowing up Pogtopia wasn’t a senseless thing to do but in my mind it sure was. The Spiral is pretty obvious, the way Wilbur loses his mind but I think The Desolation is first because once he comes back, he doesn’t want to change, he doesn’t want to be anything less than destructive.

c!Ranboo: I think The Stranger fits pretty well for Ranboo. He always feels like something isn’t right and I’m sure the short term memory loss isn’t helpful. Idk the words to explain my thinking and reasoning which I guess does fit perfectly for this entity… If anyone gets what I’m trying to say, please. I will edit later when I remember what the fuck I was trying to say.

c!Techno: The Slaughter/The Hunt. I am a solid believer in both because I live in a world where things are easy lmao. Anyway, I think it is a mix of both simply because Techno isn’t fully just unmotivated violence, there is a reason for it. If anyone can link that speech that Techno gave Quackity over hunting, it kinda proves my hunt point. On the other side of the coin, he literally has blood thirsty voices in his head, is there anything more slaughter coded?

c!Philza: The End is what I think fits best, perhaps even The Vast. Obviously his ties to The Goddess Of Death really help my point for the End but idk why but Philza gives this vibe of the dsmp’s wars and skirmishes are really pointless in the grand scene of things which is very Vast coded. I think Phil would be more connected to The End after Wilbur died and became very connected after Doomsday. Idk just some thoughts.

c!Quackity: I’m stuck between the Hunt and The Flesh. I’m leaning more toward Flesh because of how he acts during his casino days. Paranoid but still cunning if that makes sense. A mix of Hunt and Flesh. It’s both mostly vibes, I’m getting so tired writing this that I will probably edit and add more tomorrow.

Last Thoughts: The Dream Smp in its entirety is a Fear Domain and nobody can tell me otherwise. Both Pandora’s Vault and Logstedshire are Lonely Coded. The Egg is obviously Corruption Coded. "Things have always been ****ed up." How death, cancer and a whole pandemic helped make Yesterwynde the most optimistic Nightwish album yet

Tuomas Holopainen was a teenage misanthrope. Growing up in the small Finnish town of Kitee, he had the regulation all-black wardrobe and the soundtrack to match. “I did not use to be an optimistic person when I was younger,” he says. “I loved black metal and all that. But I started to come to the realisation that things have always been fucked up, but we’re still going for the better despite the horrible things that are going on in the world.”

We’re sitting in a suite in an upscale Berlin hotel, as mid-morning traffic flows along Potsdamer Platz several storeys below us. Literally as we talk, unthinkable things are happening all around the world: war, abuse, torture, murder, wilful destruction of the climate. The grim realities of humanity in 2024, basically.

But right here, right now, all that seems a long way away. Not because Nightwish’s keyboard player and band leader is in epic denial mode, but because his band’s 10th album, Yesterwynde, is charged with emotion: hope, beauty, positivity and, yes, optimism.

It’s an unexpected choice on more than one level. Aside from the rolling catastrophe that is the 21st century, Nightwish themselves have been battered by turmoil over the past few years. Their last album, 2020’s Human. :II: Nature., was released during the first, intense throes of the pandemic, scuppering their plans to tour it. When they did return to the road in May 2021, it was without longtime bassist Marko Hietala, who cited a mixture of long-standing depression and disillusion with the music industry for his decision to leave the band.

On a personal level, things have been no less turbulent. In 2022, singer Floor Jansen revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer (she was given the all-clear following surgery). In June 2023, the singer – pregnant with her second child – collapsed with exhaustion following a Nightwish show in Finland, prompting the cancellation of two subsequent solo gigs. Amid all this, Tuomas’s father, Pentti Holopainen, passed away in 2021.

Other bands may have buckled under the battering of the last few years, but Nightwish – and specifically Tuomas as their chief songwriter – have taken a different path. Rather than wallowing in trauma, Yesterwynde pushes back against it. The 12-track album covers a lot of emotional ground across its 69 minutes, but the overwhelming sense is that, honestly, everything is going to be OK. “Yesterwynde has a very optimistic vibe to it,” says Tuomas. “It celebrates life and humanity and mortality. The important things.” 

Yesterwynde begins and ends with the sound of an old film projector starting up and winding down. It suggests a movie is playing out in between. What exactly that movie is, Tuomas Holopainen isn’t letting on. “It’s something different for everybody,” he says, smiling but evasive. Musically, Yesterwynde is everything we have come to expect from Nightwish, only more. One song, the hyper- dramatic An Ocean Of Strange Islands, features over 600 studio tracks and sounds like it. Another, The Children Of ’Ata, was inspired by the real-life story of a group of teens from Tonga stranded for 15 months on a remote island in the Pacific, and features five indigenous Tongan singers. Elsewhere, Yesterwynde features two separate choirs – one classical, one kids – and three different orchestras, all recorded in London’s prestigious Abbey Road Studios, naturally. There are no side-long epics – only two tracks, An Ocean Of Strange Islands and first single Perfume Of The Timeless, stretch beyond eight minutes – but it still feels bigger, bolder and more grandiose than anything else out there right now.

But amid the dramatic power and intricacy, there’s the emotional core that sets Nightwish apart from every corset-clad knock-off that has followed in their wake. That emotion is conveyed by both the music and Floor Jansen’s career-best vocal performance (as on the two other Nightwish albums she’s been involved in, the Dutch native is joined on singing duties by multi-instrumentalist/resident Brit Troy Donockley). Loss, grief, the existential fragility of humanity and the hope it inspires: it’s all there.

There’s one problem. Literally seconds before we step into the lift to go up to meet Tuomas, a rep for Nightwish’s label makes it clear that he will not talk about the death of his father. On the one hand, this is understandable, even admirable – privacy is a scarce commodity these days, and there’s something to be said for not laying everything out for public consumption. On the other, it’s frustrating – death and birth both play into the big, interlocking themes of Yesterwynde, namely the passage of time and the unfolding of history, and how both make us aware of our own mortality.

This is clearest of all on the album’s closing track, Lanternlight, a moving yet celebratory lament for those who are no longer with us. ‘Gone is the hurt, the wait / Gone is the warmth of day,’ Floor sings. And later: ‘To the meadows I go / I’ll be waiting for you.’ Tuomas won’t say whether it was inspired by the death of his father – “I lost something very dear to me a few years ago, and this song was born out of that emotion,” he offers opaquely – but it’s hard not to join the dots.

“The major theme of the album is time – going back in time, recognising your own mortality,” he says. “Connecting to the past.” The past seems appealing, given how shitty the world is at the moment. “Yeah, it is,” he concedes. “But it’s also incredibly good in many ways. And in many ways it’s better – the innovations of science and medicine, the child death rate... A small example: would you rather go to the dentist today or a hundred years ago? “I want to emphasise that I’m not immune to the bad stuff that’s going on in the world. I’m aware of it and I do everything I can to help. But I think it’s good for our mental state to recognise the good stuff. And I think that we have the chance as a species to survive and get together. That’s the core message, the essence, of Yesterwynde.”

Like so many things, Yesterwynde was born out of the pandemic. The seeds for the album were sown after the tour in support of Human. :II: Nature. was postponed due to Covid. “Suddenly I had nothing to do,” says Tuomas. “So I thought I’d better start writing songs for the next Nightwish album.”

For Floor, the experience of making her third Nightwish album was unlike that of making Human. :II: Nature. or its predecessor, 2015’s Endless Forms Most Beautiful. “It was different for me,” she says. “Not bad, not at all, but different.” It’s a few weeks after we met Tuomas in Berlin. We’re sitting backstage at Muziekgebouw, a concrete concert hall in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, where Floor is due to play a show in support of her 2023 solo album, Paragon, later this evening. She’s not alone: her eight-month-old baby daughter, Lucy, is here too, unknowingly sitting in on the interview and letting her mum know when she’s hungry.

Just like many things that emerged from the pandemic, Yesterwynde began in isolation. Tuomas began writing the songs at home in Finland while his bandmates were busy dealing with their own lives. The rest of Nightwish knew he was writing something, but they didn’t know what. “He didn’t email us saying, ‘This is what I’ve written today,’” says Floor. “He doesn’t like sharing snippets, he likes to share the whole thing. But we knew he was inspired.”

The first time Floor heard the new songs Tuomas had written was during Nightwish’s festival run in the summer of 2022, after touring had properly resumed. “Imagine us all gathered in a hotel room, everybody has brought a drink or two, or three, sometimes the minibar is emptied,” says Floor. “Tuomas would play us the music – we didn’t listen to all the songs at once, that would’ve been too much. He’d explain what the songs were about – he’d start off by telling us very little, letting the music speak for itself, but he’d start to go into the depths of what inspired him.”

At this stage, there were no vocals on the record, just piano melodies in their place. But Tuomas would sometimes sing along as the demo played. Floor made voice recordings on her phone to help her understand what the songs were about and ensure she could connect with the emotions in them. “I’m sure he hopes I never put them on the internet,” she says playfully.

Floor’s personal circumstances meant the recording process was different too. Her pregnancy meant she was unable to join the rest of the band at the campsite in Kitee they’ve used for several albums now to rehearse the songs for Yesterwynde. It also meant she recorded her vocals at home in Sweden, where she lives with her husband, Sabaton drummer Hannes Van Dahl (Tuomas was there for the sessions).

“I was pregnant, and before that there was the cancer, and then I had my baby and I was just really, really fucking tired, so I wasn’t there like I had been in the past,” she says. “The connection to the album is much less than it was before, because we haven’t been spending as much crazy time together as we usually would. That doesn’t mean I don’t give a shit – quite the opposite – but I’m still growing into what it means, and what it means to me.”

What song hit you the hardest the first time you heard it? “The last song on the album [Lanternlight] hit me the most,” she says. “When I heard that the first time – he explained what it was about, this song he wrote for his father – it went straight to my heart. It was so beautiful, even in demo form. I sat there crying.”

Even without the pandemic, the last few years have been a rollercoaster for Floor. There was her well-documented diagnosis with and subsequent recovery from breast cancer, followed by her pregnancy. It culminated in her collapse from exhaustion following a Nightwish show in June 2023, while pregnant (thankfully, both Floor and her unborn daughter were fine). Two solo shows were cancelled in the wake of the latter, though no one would have blamed her if she’d walked away from it all for good.

“No, no, I just had to quit for a couple of months,” she says, meaning the heavy workload. “Did I ever think of quitting for good? No, never.” Hearing her talk, it sounds like Floor is in a unique position: a key part of Yesterwynde, undoubtedly, but also someone with a little distance, who is still learning its deeper meanings. What does the album mean to her right now?

“To me, it’s a continuous awareness about the beauty of the planet we’re on and the positivity of us as a species. We get all this negative feedback about killing the planet and hurting each other, and all of that is unfortunately true. But there’s also a lot of beauty to it – humanity has achieved amazing things throughout history, and we should remind ourselves of that. That is sometimes forgotten in the speed of the life we live today.”

For all Yesterwynde’s against-the-grain optimism, Tuomas Holopainen is as aware as anyone of the grim realities of the world in 2024. That was brought home in the wake of Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when there were fears that Russia’s neighbour, Finland, could be next.

“Not fear, but an awareness,” he counters. “I haven’t felt afraid, not once, even though I live less than 10 kilometres from the Russian border. But we have such a good defence that he is not going to come after us.”

He seems equally unflappable when it comes to matters closer to his band. Earlier this year, original Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen – who was acrimoniously and very publicly fired from the band in 2005 – and former bassist Marko Hietala reunited to tour together and release a joint single, Left On Mars. If it feels like a slap in the face for Tuomas, he hides it well.

“Honestly, I don’t care at all,” he says. “It doesn’t move me in any direction that they have found each other. They can play and perform as many Nightwish songs as they want, it doesn’t bother me one bit.” Have you spoken to Marko since he left? ‘A couple of times.” Are you on good terms? "Yes. There’s no bad blood between us. His leaving was his decision. I was actually quite taken by the fact that in the first interview he gave after he left the band, he said, ‘Don’t anybody dare to put this on Tuomas. This was my decision.’”

You’ve talked about the passage of time. Do you miss the friendships you once had with Tarja and Marko? “I remember the best of times we had, with Tarja and Marko. I’m filled with nostalgia and warmth when I think about the latter half of 2004, for example, which was one of the best times Nightwish ever had, right after the release of the Once album and the European tour. It was just wonderful. But my life is in such a good place at the moment that it’s no more than a whiff of nostalgia.”

That sense of nostalgia is threaded through Yesterwynde, linking the past to the present. But what about the future? For Nightwish, that future seems to be tinged with a degree of uncertainty. In April 2023, they announced in a statement that the band would not be touring their next album – a huge deal for a band whose epic live shows match the grandeur of their music. That decision still stands today. Tuomas is insistent that there will be no live shows in support of Yesterwynde, though he politely but firmly refuses to reveal why.

“The reasons are personal, we’re not going to go into it, but it was something that had to be done for this band to continue,” he says, cryptically. “There’s no bad blood between the members, nothing like that. We just have to take a long breather.” Are there any plans to do anything around the album? A live stream? “We will have something planned, which is not playing music but something else.” Which is? “I can’t say, because we don’t know right now,” he says, unconvincingly. “But there are still things happening.”

Backstage in Eindhoven a few weeks later, Floor is equally unwilling to divulge the reasons behind the decision, though she seems to have a slightly different view of it. “The whole idea of not touring... it’s not mine,” she says. “I wish we could continue, but it’s a mutual decision. Everything with Nightwish, we’ve done with 120%, but if you don’t have the energy to do that, it’s better to take a break.”

Not having to tour for months on end does have its upsides. Tuomas says he’ll spend the time working on a new record from Auri, the side-project featuring his wife Johanna and Nightwish’s Troy Donockley. Floor will likewise use the opportunity to spend time with her family and work on her second solo album.

Both insist that the lack of a tour in support of Yesterwynde doesn’t mean that Nightwish are coming to the end of the road. Tuomas points to the fact that they’ve just signed a new deal with their label, Nuclear Blast, as “evidence there are going to be more albums in future”.

“I’ve seen a lot of reactions, people drawing conclusions,” says Floor. “Making an elephant out of a mosquito, as the Dutch say – making something much bigger than it actually is. It’s not the end of the band, I’m not going to leave, nobody’s angry at each other. There’s a lot of drama been added to this – it’s bad enough that we’re not playing, but there’s nothing more to it.”

In many ways, making such a monumental album as Yesterwynde, and then opting not to tour it, is a very Nightwish thing to do. This is a band who have always followed their own path, even – especially – when it’s flown in the face of popular trends. They’ve watched nu metal, the NWOAHM and the mid-00s emo scene rise, fall and rise again while their own career has followed an unbroken upwards trajectory.

But Nightwish exist entirely in a universe of Tuomas’s own creation. Ask him if he listens to Sleep Token or any of the crop of modern bands currently taking metal in interesting new directions, and he shakes his head.

“No. I don’t listen to music at all anymore, practically. I haven’t for 10 years. I enjoy silence much more these days. Maybe I had an overdose of it for the first 35 years of my life. I’ve heard of the bands you mentioned, but I don’t actively listen to music at all. Though I just heard that My Dying Bride are coming out with a new album. I’ll definitely check that out,” he adds wryly.

Earlier, he’d talked a little more about the imaginary movie that starts and finishes at either end of Yesterwynde. Or, more specifically, the one that runs in his head.

“It’s a very unique one,” he says after a moment’s pause. “I’ve come to realise how incredibly lucky we are to be alive. It’s ridiculous, the odds that we are all here. We should celebrate it.”
