i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women

with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox

here she is, fading out.
p.s.: thesis statement on moffatgirls from the tags i left on somebody else’s post about charley pollard.. well it belongs here since it’s basically the semiotic hurricane swirling around ruby at the moment :)

#on a personal level what interests me about these characters is precisely what gets them labeled as being subject to#misogynistic writing by pop-feminist video-essayists. as an autistic girl* (*ish) however; i find female characters that#aren’t quite ‘normal people’; women who represent an idea or concept or are a puzzle to be solved or a manic pixie dream girl to be#more and in a way far more interesting than a girl-next-door-type universally relatable protagonist#they make for more nuanced stories with more symbolism and more layers of interpretation usually. why should there be realism in a#fantastical narrative? similarly i like characters that are haunting the narrative or dead before it began (big locked tomb fan if you#didn’t know) and like. not to be tvtropes but the lost lenore archetype. dead woman who spurs the hero on to recklessness or revenge.#i identify with that dead girl. the laura palmers of the world. set the story in motion without#necessarily having agency. maybe it’s something to do with my#constant background radiation of passive suicidality. in a fun whimsical way :) i would never kill myself but i don’t want to be a real#person. i want to be objectified but not necessarily in a k*nky s*xual way (that too) in a princess in a tower way#the ultimate femme fantasy innit? there’s something about it. hashtag problematic hashtag conforming to gender roles#10000 tags be upon ye#ruby sunday#millie gibson#doctor who#dw#steven moffat#clara oswald#fifteen#fifteenth doctor#twelveclara#amy pond#charley pollard#river song#donna noble#ncuti gatwa#doctor who meta#jamie.txt#haunting

If only the original Saint Seiya anime was a 2014-2018 anime series instead of being aired in the 80s-90s, I can only imagine the sheer amount of animation memes that could have been done. Some of the characters are just so perfect for those, like, if this was a more animation-oriented fandom this would totally be a thing.

I feel like I should be original but my friend sent me more things she found funny for me to Journey to the westify
Here they are
Tumblr media
I'm thinking Sun Wukong vs the bureaucracy of heaven
Tumblr media
No idea but I love this image
And finally
Tumblr media
Sun Wukong bullying Zhu Bajie (affectionately..maybe)
Also before I forget my friend made me and my friend vote on what we would rather eat and to begin it was meat or spaghetti but after further prompting she said 'congealed meat slop or dry raw pasta' there's a right answer and that is not the one she chose.

Hoping against hope that DD reads "The House of My Mother: A Daughter's Quest for Freedom" and brings Shari Franke on his podcast to discuss the dangers and horrendous, soulless incentive of family vlogging.
#life#DD#podcast#hopes and dreams#a mission close to my heart#I was there watching people pick apart Ruby Franke (the mother)'s content before her arrest#as in two years before at least#and have been there every step of the way#from her little son escaping from his bonds to run to the neighbors for help#because he was afraid his siblings would die#and Ruby Franke's husband effectively abandoning his kids because Ruby moved in with a “marriage counselor”#(who liked to split up couples and move in with the wives-- wink wink “this isn't what it looks like 'cuz we're holy Mormons”)#((note: it was exactly what it looked like))#then had his daughter Shari arrested after she tried to retrieve her laptop from his property#but now claims he suPoRts HeR wHolehEaRtedLY (to escape the hot seat)#Child Protective Services failing that family even though Shari kept calling for help after she was forced to move out as an adult#Shari's brother right under her (Chad) was so abused that he still hasn't accepted the full truth#(at least he can make a living playing games on Twitch-- good for him)#all of the kids' hormones and body changes and fears and struggles and diaries were put on YouTube#Ruby punished and terrorized her children in her videos (and off-camera) years before the abuse escalated#the kids-- and all family vlogger kids-- were incentivized to let their parents use their lives as content#because A. they don't understand the ramificiations#B. they are told it's good for them-- and they can go on vacation to Disney with the money!! (which is a business write-off anyway)#C. they might be deathly afraid of their parents anyway#and D. if they're even given a choice to decide regardless#none of these kids were (or are) usually paid#if they are their privacy is still exploited for profit#it used to be an innocent pastime... but now it's mostly haunted by predators making playlists on YouTube (yes-- a real problem)#or more and more family vloggers sell privacy in exchange for advertisers or thumbnail clicks#it's. appalling.

Last night I had this dream that was essentially a mash-up of Fallout 4 and the Fallout tv show, where I was essentially a Sole Survivor/Lucy fusion: After several years as a thawed-out Sole Survivor, I discovered that my father and brother, who I’d assumed were long dead given that I last saw them like 200 years ago, had actually also been frozen in a different vault.
They, unlike me, had been found and unfrozen a while ago by vault dwellers and had spent the past decade living in a perky, Stepford-style folksy Vault like the one from the Amazon Prime show, complete with mysterious people who get transferred in from “another vault” and never discuss their past. They’ve been there for a decade, so my younger brother that I last saw as a teen is now a few years older than I am (cause I’m like mid-twenties in the dream since I was a young 50s/60s-era newlywed with a newborn when I got frozen).
I’m thrilled they’re still alive and also awkward about the fact that they’ve been living in this safe, still-like-the-before-times Vault while I’ve spent the past several years killing my way through dozens of raiders gangs in the Wasteland and fucking Hancock, because they’re going to be so startled and have their innocent image of me shattered when they learn about it. But they want to see my new life, so I take my brother the vault librarian and my dad, who tells dad jokes and wears a cowboy hat and is apparently the Vault co-op board’s secretary (the Vault homeowners board are mostly mutated experiment survivors like the show’s Vault 4 and are very obviously up to something conspiracy-esque), up to the surface to visit my home in Goodneighbor.
This involves a massive shoot-out with a huge gang of raiders who were camped out outside the vault, where I yell at little/older brother for sucking at using a machine gun (Dad said you practiced! Dad said the vault had marksmanship training! Why are you so bad at providing covering fire!) and our dad is like, “Sole, stop being mean to your brother” *shoots raider in the chest* “You’ve clearly had more practice at this, nobody likes a braggart.” (Meanwhile I’m internally stressing about how to explain ghouls to them, and keep saying things like “Some people at our destination are going to look weird but don’t freak out, it’s just like Fred from the Vaultowner’s association board, okay? It’s because of the radiation, like Fred’s tentacle-arm.”)
We walk into Goodneighbor via an elaborate underground tunnel that leads into the bar, where Hancock is serving as the bartender and immediately grabs me for a kiss. Then there’s the world’s most awkward introduction ever as I’m like, “Uh, dad, this is my new husband who I remarried after husband no. 1’s tragic death. He’s the gunslinging anarchist mayor of disaster-town who does every drug.”
… only to discover that my Dad knows him, because the secret Vault conspiracy is actually that all the secretive and suspicious “vault transfers” are synths being given new lives, and Hancock has been his Railroad contact on the surface for years now. The ghoulification drug Hancock took was actually created by Fred-from-the-Vaultowners’-association-board’s grandfather. They’ve all been corresponding since before I was even thawed out. Dad is like, “When were you going to tell me your new wife was my daughter?! Also do fewer drugs and get a warmer, more practical coat. And a bigger gun, the Institute is dangerous.”
Also step-mom who stayed behind in the vault is actually a synth and therefore technically my great-granddaughter and my Dad and brother don’t know this they don’t know about Shaun/“Father” oh god explaining Hancock was supposed to be the worst problem.

youtube
So a while back, Electric Callboy announced they were looking for suggestions for possible acoustic covers for them to perform on YouTube, and this is their announcement of what those songs could be and how they are going to do them.
A couple thoughts:
Not surprised mine didn't make it, but kind of bummed (look, Nico would've sounded fantastic doing "Science Fiction Double Feature).
Really hoping they do "Maniac," though. There's a lot of songs they'd sound good on, but "Maniac" is the most up my street, if that makes sense.
I have up until now been unfamiliar with Modern Talking's "Cheri Cheri Lady." I gotta say -- That's mean, Christian. That's mean.
(why is that video so unsettling at the end)
Mostly I just hope they do "Maniac." I mean, and "Holding Out For a Hero." And I do kind of want to see how they arrange that Lorna Shore song for acoustic.
"Maniac," though.

one time i watched a very short video essay that basically boiled down to "there are no auteurs in anime and part of the proof is the fact that you can't name the director of your favorite episode" and that line makes me want to continually scream into a void bc like
one, you probably would know if you could read kanji/japanese bc it's listed in the credits. so you could 100% remember and go "oh, this person animated this episode that's awesome!"
two, you can always google it. it's free. if you watch an episode of anime and go "wow, this is amazing, i wonder who directed it?" you can always look it up. it'll take you less than 5 minutes in most cases it's so easy.
and i honestly think thats my biggest gripe w/ modern anime fans. there's no effort anymore. people don't want to do the research. they consume and consume and consume, but can't take five minutes to do a quick google search despite so many answers to their questions being at the tip of their fingers. it's lazy.
it reminds me of when vegapunk's message was cut off and the last character was "mo" and someone in a discord im in used fucking chatgpt to figure out what the "mo" could have been, instead of looking it up himself. it's so lazy. you want to be able to guess the right answer and look cool but can't take the time to google it yourself.
i also don't think this is necessarily an anime fandom only issue too, i'm sure plenty of other fandoms have the problem of people refusing to do more research and using short cuts or just assuming that if they can't find the answer it doesn't exist. it's not even a generational problem bc i follow so many people younger than me who are willing to put in the time and effort, i think it's just people who are new to fandom post-pandemic and don't understand that the research is part of being in a fandom. or maybe i'm just old and grumbly. who knows? i gotta open tomorrow i need to stop ranting about this shit.
