analysis of oj's thought process in this scene for funsies (quick warning for suitcase being put down and seen as inferior by another but it's not character neg)
why is oj being a massive fucking bitch? đ€ Let's analyze.
so, obviously oj is living off a power trip in this episode. interesting implications about his actual power as a hotel owner. actually, at the beginning of the episode, we can see that he is NOT RESPECTED. salt lies about cleaning up, pepper demands him where the towels are (and he smugly lets her enter the DEATH TRAP DOOR? implying a familiar but negative relationship), and in general oj (and paper sort of but that's not relevant) seems to be the only caretaker while the rest of the residents are more like customers. though it seems they are *meant* to help out (such as salt being supposed to clean).
anyway. once oj gets the temporary host role for inanimate insanity, he immediately gets excited. we transition to the scene outside the hotel and he even does a little twirl! oj starts to read off the paper mephone uses (which oj has happily vandalized with drawings of himself and a snarky little message, this points to his general disdain towards mephone) and is trying to go Smoothly through with it. once the teams start fighting, he doesn't even try to figure out who's telling the truth, preferring instead to eliminate a random person. he REALLY likes to be efficient with his time, huh? that's talked about more in the next paragraph, but in this one i'll say a bit about his hatred for inanimate insanity. for the whole episode, he is uncaring of the show's rules, guidelines, structures, etc. he eliminates someone at random, he makes the contestants clean the hotel NOT as a challenge then flips a coin to determine the loser (only after they question him), he makes them sing for no reason other than to be entertained, he zips through every step as fast as possible. he does not care at all about ii, despite being so eager to host it. why? because hosting it means he gets to boss around a group of people (and he can make them clean his hotel! something he really needs help with!!), he gets to take mephone's place and mess with his stuff and disrespect his show, and generally he gets to sort of... take out some of his lasting frustrations surrounding ii. i don't think ANY of the season one cast is fond of inanimate insanity (and especially not of mephone), even if it brought them together (also not always a good thing). oj certainly isn't.
once he picks suitcase, he starts by calling her "whats-your-face" (thank you for noticing mari), then a few seconds later calls her by her actual name. thissss is so interesting to me. he KNOWS her name, apparently. but he called her a mean name first. this can either imply that he forgot, that he's just being a jerk for the hell of it, or both. i think it's both. a mix of his obsession with productivity and his need to be superior motivates this. he wants to get the elimination over with as quickly as possible, so quickly that he doesn't even bother to remember her name right away, because he's SO efficient that he just simply Doesn't have time for these things (in his mind). so it makes him feel both superior to her (disrespecting her), makes him feel good about himself (he feels like he's just being Productive and Time Efficient and part of that is that he has "no time" to do anything else but work). basically, he DID forget her name for like, a singular second, he just didn't bother to wait a moment or correct himself instead of calling her something else.
and for telling suitcase she's ruining the show? let's bring it back to ii1. oj insults people whenever he feels like it. he's pretty mean, and he's worse when he's stressed. he insults people particularly for being "useless" (such as to bomb), and is quick to fight back against anyone who challenges him. a pushover like suitcase is easy to demean. and it makes him respect her even less when she's being so meek! oj thinks his snappishness is justified by the fact he's, once more, simply being time efficient ("we've got a busy schedule!"), and that she is just wasting his time. i said earlier that oj doesnt respect inanimate insanity. so why does he accuse her of ruining the show if he doesn't care about it? well, because this is *his* episode. his time to be the host. even if he disregards the usual way things run, he's still going to get upset if something conflicts with *his* plans. he wants to get this over with and get them to clean his hotel, not much else (again, he's still enjoying being in a position of authority, he just likes to be nonchalant about how Superior and Powerful he is now). if someone's interrupting that, he's going to assert himself. oj always fights back against anyone who challenges him, and suitcase is too much of a doormat to stop him from shutting her down.
now for oj telling her to step back. this part is petty. he's irritated but also kind of. happy about being irritated. "what," you say? well, see, suitcase is genuinely trying to follow his directions. she just doesn't know how *much* to step back, obviously. so oj keeps shooing her a little bit at a time until she's finally offscreen, and you can tell he's a little bit annoyed by it. but this is part of the power & superiority once more! he gets to boss around someone "inferior to him" who is just soooo stupid that she doesn't even know where to go. and oj has to shoo her over and over because she's just not getting it (since he is sooo very much smarter than her and she is just completely incapable of following OBVIOUS directions.) but it's okay she is simply a Minor inconvenience (in his head) that he has dealt with now. also note that he could've just pointed to where she had to go. does this paragraph make sense? he likes being able to tell others what to do and have them do it, so even if she's kind of annoying him by not completely understanding the instructions, he still gets to assert his authority quite a bit.
this analysis is particularly focused on the scene in the video but i do bring up some other parts of the episode to support it.

it seems like a lot of people, when discussing avatars, fixate either solely on their villainy and how completely bereft of morality they are, or how they are just a poor manipulated pawn of their patron. thereâs a large focus on avatars either having malicious intent or a lack of control. and i feel like the thing a lot of fans are missing is that the fears donât work like that. avatars donât work like that. yes, a few of them are just shitty people, but the majority of them? what they do isnât out of malice or cruelty. they are a thing obeying its nature. they hunt and hurt and kill because it feeds them and feeds their power.
as to how much of their actions are taken of their own volition and how much are the influence of their fear, i donât think it matters that much. free will doesnât really exist. people make choices based upon their life, circumstances, emotions, situations, and a hundred other factors. itâs a complicated knot thatâs impossible to untangle.
but we know that the fears both
a. build off of and enhance whatâs already there, what people already desire and feel and do
b. ramp that up to insane levels and twist it around to fit their own agenda (food and rituals)
c. make their avatars unable to back out of servitude without death, and detach them from both their own humanity and the rest of humanity to the point where choosing between their own lives or the lives of their prey is a simple decision.
basically, itâs like a rabbit who becomes a fox that must eat rabbits or die. the fox may be haunted by guilt in the early days, for eating what used to be its kin. maybe the occasional fox is even grief stricken enough to starve itself. but in the long run, that fox is a fox. the rabbits are no longer a peer with the same thoughts and feelings as them, to be sympathized with and understood. they are simply a food source, and the fox is not one of them anymore.
if the fox spends years and decades and centuries killing and eating rabbits, it might feel the occasional twinge of pity or amusement at their antics, but ultimately, theyâre just food. feeling guilty about eating it gets them nowhere. after all, they had a choice in what they became, and they made it a long time ago.
itâs kind of like helen and jonâs conversation, where she explained that she felt the same guilt jon did at first, but it wasnât getting her anywhere and eventually, she had to let it go and choose to eat to survive. jon started this process, too. in season 4, mainly, and also in season 5, but in season 5 he has the constant buffer of martinâs presence as a safeguard so itâs a little more complicated. but within months of his transformation, he started willingly taking live statements, uncaring for the victimâs state, just wanting to eat. itâs either eat or die, and any living avatars chose to eat. there is a reason they all admit that they did what they did not because they were under someone elseâs control, but because they liked it and needed it and chose it.
so, trying to assign this narrative of avatars being either innocent pawns of their power with no choice in what theyâre doing, or an evil entity with malicious intent who wants to be cruel, just doesnât work. both could be viewed as part of the truth, but also, neither is really accurate, for the simple fact that anyone who serves the fears is operating off an entirely different mindset and lived experience that human morality just doesnât really translate well to.
ironically enough, i think michael phrased it best- âThere was a great evil, she said, and Michael was going to help her fight it. Am I evil, Archivist? Is a thing evil when it simply obeys its own nature? When it embodies its nature? When that nature is created by those which revile it?â
anyways, this is getting pretty long, sorry if it doesnât make much sense. iâm just irritated by fandom trying to find a Morally Correct way for avatars to exist, and ignoring the fact that being an avatar doesnât just give people a few spooky powers, it completely upends their entire existence and mindset and priorities and morality.
yeah exactly . morality and avatars is such an interesting concept that a lot of people simply handwave !! i . have thoughts but i can't word them right now but . i do agree with you anon - deceit
Im eating this anon - rosette

MORE MK AND HUAMIN RAAAAAAAAHHHHH
THIS IS AN OLD FIC I WROTE OVER A YEAR AGO BUT I DONâT CARE!!! I AM CHUCKING IT AT YALL ANYWAY
HURT/COMFORT AHEAD!! SPOILERS FOR S4!!
The beach was lovely at night. There were beautiful, twinkling stars in the night sky, accompanied by the shining moon, casting a pretty glare on the ocean. But, even this lovely place could not heal the aching heart sitting on the sand.
Sitting on the shore of the beach, Huamin sighed to himself. His heart still ached, but it wasnât for himself. It was for his beloved Xiaotian, and what he may face in the future. He knew MKâs mental state was still declining, he knew MK wouldnât be able to take all of the pressure and trauma anymore, and yet all he could do was hold him and comfort him. Huamin couldnât do anything to help MK but just be there for him, and it was killing him. He didnât want MK to kill himself in the process of saving the world. He wanted to steal MK away to somewhere unknown and keep him safe, but that would be selfish and cruel to MK. Huamin gripped his chest tightly, gripping where his heart was, and let out a sob. He didnât want MK to suffer.
Speaking of, MK went looking for Huamin as he had disappeared from the party. Growing worried, MK told Wukong and Pigsy that he was going to look for him. Pushing past some leaves and branches, MK reached the beach, spotting his lover. When he went to excitedly greet him, he stopped himself. Why was Huamin shaking? And⊠why was he crying? MK quickly but quietly sat next to him, his heart filled with worry.
âMin-Min?â Huamin jumped, snapping his head in the direction of his pet name. MK, the man he was crying over, the one he fell so hard for, was sitting next to him with a worried expression. Huamin looked at him with wide eyes, not expecting him to show up.
âWh-Why are you h-hereâŠ?â Huamin choked out finally, his tail wrapping around himself. MK looked at him, confusion mixing with worry.
âWhy are you crying?â MK countered, reaching out to him, taking Huaminâs cheek into his hand. He croaked out a soft purr, the frown still plastered on his face.
âItâs nothing,â He said, MK didnât seem pleased with that answer so he took Huamin into his arms, startling the toque macaque.
âItâs clearly something, babe,â MK stated, âYouâre all the way out here without anyone, crying and shaking like a leaf. Really, whatâs wrong?â
Huamin stuffed his face into the crook of MKâs neck, breathing shakily. âHeâs gonna think youâre stupidâ, he thought to himself, but he took a shaky breath⊠and let it out.
âI-Iâm so worried about you, MK. Iâm so scared that one day youâre gonna finally snap and break in two from all the stress and pain everything has brought you. Iâm scared that youâll come home in a bodybag one day, and I canât do anything about it. I canât help you other that hold you, and thatâs not enough. I-I know itâs dumb to be sad about this but-â
âItâs not dumb.â
Huaminâs ears twitched in response to MKâs lowered voice, his brow furrowing.
âHuh?â
âI said,â MK pulled him off and looked him in the eye, âitâs not dumb. You have every right to be worried. Your feelings are valid, Min.â
He took a deep breath, then continued, âI gotta be honest, Iâm worried about all that, too. I mean, I was never the strongest mentally to begin with, and Mei can vouch! I am scared of dying while fighting, too. Dying is a scary concept, and dying by celestial god doesnât seem too pleasant.
Either way, I want you to know your feelings are valid, but you canât worry about me all the time. Youâll drive yourself insane doing that. I canât allow you to do that to yourself. And about you not doing enough? Fuck that, you do plenty! You take care of me, you take care of my friends⊠I couldnât have asked for a better boyfriend.â
Huamin sat there, staring at him, his face blushing ever so slightly. He really meant all that? Given his face at that moment, smiling and totally calm, he definitely did. Huamin chuckled, wiping his tears away.
âYou really know how to make someone feel better, Xiaotian,â Huamin smiled back at him, âI love you so much.â
MKâs face erupted into a very deep red color, and he nervously chuckled. âI-I love you too!â
Under the brightly shining moon, the two lovers shared a tender kiss as the stars twinkled, a pleasant end to the night.

MCYT Nightmares AU (Little Nightmares AU)
Wilbur's Beautiful Burden:
Wilbur had only experienced seven years of life when he himself became responsible for another life. For the rest of eternity he would remember that day vividly, the naked and tiny little bundle of flesh in the gigantic trash pile. Face scrunched up red in frustration but quiet as any of the other kids Wilbur had ever stumbled upon, as if instinctively knowing that sound only brought everlooming death closer.
He remembers the uncertainty that filled him as he inched closer, knowing what he was seeing was a baby yet not believing that he of all the children had stumbled upon one still alive and well. Fearing that this fragile small thing's life now rested in his inexperienced hands. He knew they needed a lot of care, that it was difficult enough to keep yourself alive and five times as difficult to take care of such a useless creature as well. Yet regardless of his fears and uncertainties one thing was clear, if he left the baby here it would die.
So with careful steps he had scrambled through the trash pile, wincing whenever it noisely shifted. He approached the dramatically fitful baby which seemed more than happy to show it's disdain however silently for its current situation- his situation Wilbur noted upon being able to more clearly see the babe.
When he was finally over the baby he leaned down to pick him up only to freeze when the baby's attention snapped to him. Bright blue eyes locked onto his curious and naive of the horrors of reality, holding Wilbur in place with their intensity. Then after a few moments the baby's face suddenly split into a smile his arms once more energetically waving this time in Wilbur's directon. Dumbstruck Wilbur had the thought that the little smile seemed almost victorious as if the baby had known that he had just lured in his only chance at survival.
Well it had worked that was for sure because his heart had instantly melted, and resolution set into his soul. He would protect this joyful little being with everything he had. So with awkward movements he picked the weirdly soft mushy thing up, bundling him up in his sweater covered arms eyes still locked on those sparkling jewels. "Tommy" he whispered voice hoarse from disuse "I think I'll call you Tommy"
Now all these years later he recognised those bright blues once more. He was shocked by how much Tommy had changed. Even looking smaller than he had ever before to the now gigantic Wilbur it was clear he had grown. A part of him had still been seeing the little eight year old, now however he was all grown up and from the smell of it was beginning his own Corrupting process. Then again it's not like he could speak, he was the one that had changed the most out of the two. Going from a tiny boy to one of the monsters roaming their world, giant and twisted, possibly beyond recognition. Before all too long the same fate would befall Tommy, as he slowly but surely turned into a monster like Wilbur.
For now however he was unaware of his true nature, of the fact that he just like Wilbur was one of the very monsters they so feared. That he had survived a childhood most of their kind never did. A feeling of both pride and relief filled him at that thought.
All those years ago once his mind had cleared from his Corrupting and the realization that Tommy was nowhere to be found set in, he had panicked and searched desperately for him. He knew it was for the better that they were separated during that time that he would've likely torn Tommy limb from limb in his insanity, yet that did not stop the ache from forming in his heart whenever he thought about those last few moments together. Years may have passed in which time he had found a family in Phil and Techno, but never once had he stopped looking. Even knowing how unlikely Tommy's continued survival in this cruel dog eat dog world.
Now looking into those mischievous blues once more, frightened and confused as they may be he knew he'd never make the mistake of leaving his side again. Knew that he would shelter him from any dog bites and skin the perpetrators hide afterwards.
And he knew it wouldn't be all too long before Phil and Techno too felt that way, Tommy had always beeen good at twisting people around his little finger after all.

A MCYT Au based off Little Nightmares where the boss characters you face in Little Nightmares and the tiny Children are actually the same species. The children or blanklings as called in this AU are just their young and if they survive long enough will transform into their monsterous morally dubious boss forms or their Corruption forms as it's called in this AU.
Inspired by the realization that at the end of little Nightmares 2 (Little Nightmares Franchise Spoilers duh) Mono is confirmed to be The thin man, as well as how in little nightmares 1 it's heavily implied there is some relation between Six and the painted lady whether familial or future self related and finally six's own monsterous habits that slowly evolve through the game. This theory was born in my head to explain it and then I turned it into MCYT SBI AU cause of course I did.

I'M NOT CRYING AT WORK, YOU'RE CRYING AT WORK.
For real, though. Tears at work. The ending was great. It's what I expected, but so much more. What a book. It was difficult in a lot of ways. I'm interested to see what is the same and different in the movie. Is the ending the same? Will it have the same punch? How will they make it seem as big and scary and confusing?
Oof. As always, spoilery, rambling thoughts below the cut.
"She was the size of a loaf of bread."
What a wonderful, childlike description for a baby.
-
"None of what's going to happen is your fault."
No. Nope. I'm not ready.
-
"The four of us are here to prevent the apocalypse."
What a terrible thing to hear, especially as a gay couple who, I'm sure, are used to having weird religious shit thrown at them.
Jesus. Are they really trying to save the world? Are they crazy? Is it a cult? Is it actually the apocalypse? I can't decide what would be the best/worst option.
-
Fuck. It's not only "choose a sacrifice." It's "you choose a sacrifice and you kill them yourself."
Fuck. Or else everyone dies and you live (forever?) in an apocalypse hellscape?
If this is God or Gods, why give the message to someone who isn't one of the scarificees? It's just, "take our word for it," in a world that is already so broken to make anyone think that there is no God or Gods, or that they've abandoned us?
No. I wouldn't believe it either. You want a sacrifice, you do it yourself. It's bullshit.
-
"You have to believe us!"
Why? Why do we have to believe you? What, other than this insane, impossible choice, have you given us as proof? Coming here to say "hey, kill your family because we said so!" is shit proof.
-
So now it's "choose or we'll make you choose." That's not a choice.
-
I appreciate Sabrina trying to help Wen, even when Leonard doesn't want her to. This isn't Wen's decision. It shouldn't be. She's a child.
-
I can't believe in a God or Gods that would do this to a family. To any group of people. I just. It seems to go against what they'd actually want to happen. Is the whole point to turn non-believers into believers? What happens if/when they say no? The world ends, according to Leonard. The world dies and this particular family will suffer forever? That's cruel. Unfairly cruel. Unnecessarily cruel. We're just supposed to believe out of the fear of 'what if'? How is that any sort of food? reverence? whatever it is that They get out of it?
-
Hell yeah, Andrew! Pocket sand!
-
I know Andrew is reluctant to shoot any of them, and it's easy to say this from my positions. But I'd be shooting anyone and anything to keep my baby safe and get out of there. Especially now that Adrienne is running at him with a knife? Nah.
-
No, please tell me Wen didn't get shot.
-
At least it wasn't Andrew or Eric. I can't even imagine. They have to feel guilty, but at least neither of them pulled the trigger.
And, dammit, I bet they still have to choose someone to kill, don't they. What a cruel judgement. What a cruel deity.
-
"Leonard puts his faith in the soothing power of having no choice."
A coward's choice.
-
Another coward's choice, Leonard. This may not be your fault, the machinations of some higher power, or whatever. But Wen is dead at least partially because of you. Own it.
-
If they got promised something great after putting others through all this shit, I will be so pissed.
-
Are they supposed to be the Four Horseman?
-
"Trust the process."
The process of your daughter dying, GETTING SHOT, and still needing to sacrifice your husband? The process of being terrorized into killing family, for no tangible reason?
-
Whoa, when did we change from third person to first person? Has Sabrina's narration always been in first person? Or is she just babbling all this out?
-
"I don't believe in this kind of God. I tell you, Andrew, and Eric, and Leonard, I don't believe in this kind of Devil either. Or in this kind of Universe."
"I tell you, Andrew, and Eric, and Leonard. I don't believe any of this is right anymore."
This has to be hard, knowing that this is 'wrong.' That what you're being made to do, through fear and visions, is not what you think is right or fair, even if a 'higher power' says it's Right and True. But standing up and doing what you think is morally and ethically right to yourself. Even if 'the darkness' or God or the Devil makes your body do something outside of your control. You, Yourself, know what should be done.
I like this interlude with Sabrina, even if I'm worried about the outcome.
-
Wow. I thought Leonard would be the last one.
-
It hurts my heart that Eric and Andrew are so close and yet so far from each other. They're both so scared and hopeful and sad and tired, and there's so much between them.
It's so close to the end of the book and so close to the end of the world (maybe?) and I'm just so worried for everyone.
And that's the real horror of this story, I suppose. Besides being a parent and losing a child. Is it real? Is the world ending? Is it actually a bunch of coincidences?
And even if it doesn't end. It basically has, because how do you come back from this? How do you come back from losing your child in such a horrific manner? How do you branch the divide that's come between you and your husband?
Or if Eric does kill himself (will it stop the end of the world? Does he just believe it because of the brain damage?), you're now alone, mourning the two people you loved the most. If Eric does die, does sacrifice himself, was that what stopped the end of the world? or did he do it out of religious fear/obligation/brain damage, and it ultimately means nothing? Was he coerced into it because of some religious cult that got a few guesses right?
How do you know? How can you tell? If your world has ended and the rest of the world goes on, regardless of who was right and who was wrong. Does it matter?
-
"They expect us to believe that Wen's death isn't a good enough sacrifice for their God. So you know what? Fuck them, and their god. Fuck them all."
The world can burn.
-
"What if it's real?"
"Then it is. We're still not going to hurt each other."
-
That was the perfect ending. Even being open ended, even without that confirmation. The world is cruel, and it gets what it gets. They're together, and they'll continue to take everything on together.
It just hit me that I could have used this for last year's PopSugar, "a book with a quote from your favorite author on the cover or Amazon page." I do love Stephen King. As it is, I'm reading this for "A Book Becoming a TV Series or Movie in 2023." I'm also reading The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin for the same prompt, though that one might not actually be out this year. I haven't seen a date, yet.

Force's Disney Geek Master Theory: Why Twisted Wonderland Is Called Twisted Wonderland
We have all grown to know and love various Disney characters over the years, correct? Yet, I believe a lot of us can argue that not many characters have the same effect on us even as adults today as the Villains do within their respective movies. In the game Disney: Twisted Wonderland as we all know and love, the select boys to Overblot are supposed to have the "souls" of their Villain counterparts, right? But...why is it called "Twisted" Wonderland, then? The truth may lie within something that has been right in front of us all along, my friends: the meaning of a mirror. Ready to buckle in for this one? If so, then here we go!
We have seen all of these guys share character traits, looks, etc with their Disney counterparts, correct? Well, what if I were to tell you that things in terms of the "main" guys that we are supposed to pay attention to aren't exactly what they seem? This could be analyzed in a few different ways, honestly, yet the most prominent way is this: the differences in their personalities- they are reversed. Let us take this bit by bit, shall we?
Ah, yes. The Queen Of Hearts. The ranting, raging, bundle of red, black, and gold we all know and love. (or else heads would roll, I'm sure) One of the things that everybody knows about her is that she's extremely hellbent on the crazy rules that she makes up and is prone to anger honestly very easily. Yeah, you can connect that to Riddle- but think about it for a second. While that rage and the rule thing is still there, it isn't as prominent with him as it was with her, is it? With the Queen of Hearts, her whole "issue" was that she wished to make everybody listen to her and follow her every command- but Riddle was essentially always following the rules of another- not his own. This seemed to make Riddle a little more calm most of the time in terms of how he handled and oversaw things. It wasn't until he actually Overblotted that the "listen to me and only me" thing came out- buuuuuuttttttt I'll get to that part in a bit.
Next: Leona and Scar. While we honestly didn't get to see a lot of what went on behind the scenes in the Outlands in terms of how Scar even met the hyenas to begin with at all, one thing can honestly be said- Scar worked very hard to get where he was. I mean, it's not like you can get an entire pack of rabid, hungry hyenas onto your side in the course of a single day, or maybe even a week (especially as a lion, no less). No, something to that extreme takes careful planning, wording, and stringing along to ensure that nothing goes wrong along the way. The way Scar spoke to Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed made it seem as though he had known them for a looooonngggg time before this- that's where that behind the scenes planning comes in. And then...you have Leona. Leona, from what we can tell in Chapter 2, planned the idea for the "endgame" alright- but he didn't actually act upon any of the plan for himself. Ruggie did. Even in the Lion King, we see that Scar had no problems whatsoever getting his paws dirty a little within his own scheme to take his "rightful place" at the head of Pride Rock- but Leona quite honestly did not a thing once Ruggie was in motion. See where this is starting to head?
Azul and Ursula. Ursula, the Disney baddie queen of my heart Ursula, the Sea Witch. She was known all around the ocean floor for helping out poor little merfolk in secret, wasn't she? Yet, nobody ever really seemed to catch wind of the whole "her turning those who didn't quite fit the bill into polyps" thing, did they? That was one of the things that made her such a honest threat to Ariel herself- because Ursula was cunning. She did things behind the scenes, and sure- we could catch onto it out in the audience (annnddd maybe Sebastian and Flounder as well), but nobody else really seemed to, right? Azul is the complete opposite in this standpoint. He instills direct fear into his "workers" and those even beyond and within his dorm. Like- basically most knew that this dude was bad news to begin with. Azul, mostly, seemed to hide his cunning facade behind a fake yet still seemingly "soft and genuine" smile and act. But all in all, he didn't really attempt to "hide" anything- hell, he even proclaimed his entire plan of what everyone with those things on their heads were gonna do for him in the open! At least when Ursula sang as Vanessa, she was in an almost perfectly enclosed room with nobody else around.
Jamil and Jafar. This comparison here, given what occurs in the movie Aladdin, is honestly one of the biggest possible indicators of this reoccuring theme I shall clarify in a bit. Jafar, while being sneaky, was known for being a more "out there" Disney Villain in terms of his personality alongside that of his partner Iago in the film. He would smile in a sinister way, he would crack jokes out in the open, and let us not forget his crazed yet oddly interesting laughter. Jamil? He's the exact opposite. Given his past and what he has had to dealt with growing up with Kalim, he is much more reserved and barely releases a chuckle or cracks a smile at all. His personality is a lot more repressed than that of Jafar himself throughout the film. Jamil has been so used to having to hold himself back thanks to his parents in favor of Kalim's family, he doesn't seem to know how to "let go" whatsoever. Yet Jafar, while still maintaining that sneaky side of him as well, has no problems whatsoever letting a little hang loose whenever he so chooses to.
Vil and the Evil Queen. This one honestly may be a bit more self explanatory than the others- but the difference between these two is their expressions of themselves. The Evil Queen was the very first animated counted Disney Villain within Disney's history- yet, she barely had any lines throughout the film at all. Her ranges of expression were almost little to none thanks to the era in which the movie was released in- but she always looked like she was pissed, huh? Vil is the exact opposite of her in this sense. He is able to fully express himself through his various facial expressions, theatrical abilities, musical experiences, fashion style, and even how he behaves. Vil is able to do so much more than the Evil Queen did or could do within that time period, that it's almost a little staggering if you fully picture it.
Idia and Hades. Now, now. We haven't honestly seen too much of the flaming blue boy yet in TWST, but one thing is apparent here right off the bat- in terms of his personality? He is the exact opposite of Hades. Idia is much like Jamil but to a more "geek" degree- he's extremely introverted, shy, a bit snippy, yet mainly keeps to himself and his gaming tech. Hades is most often renowned as the Disney Villain with the most personality- and the best humor. Hades has no problem whatsoever being "out there" with his crazy puns, sassy remarks, anger, and even mocking behavior. I mean, please, guys- I haven't been this choked up since I got a hunk of moussaka caught in my throat!
Finally, Malleus and Maleficent. Ooooohoooooooo boy. We have to count out the live action movie Maleficent for this one (sorry horned queen fans). One thing that basically everybody even with their toe in the water in that of Disney movies kind of knows this fact- Maleficent is c r u el. She's got a bizarre set of dark powers and an even blacker heart than that. Hell, we basically had to "soften her up" a little bit in Maleficent thanks to just how seemingly irredeemable her character is in that of Sleeping Beauty. I mean, c'mon now- cursing an infant? And we get no explanation for that in the original? C'mon, now. Anyways, Malleus? As we all can tell by now, this dude is the compleeettteeeeeee opposite. Sure, he has those repressed bits here and there too, but it is evident that this dude has a heart crying out for the MC and it is big, bold, and golden to the core once you look past how he looks. He sent the MC a card for winter break, for crying out loud. Yeah, let me know the next time you see Maleficent do that smh.
Now, I have avoided using a certain word up until this point to see if anybody could catch on to what exactly is happening here. Did you figure it out? Reverse. The boys that either have Overblotted already or intend to Overblot soon stop holding out on us, Chapter 6 have had the exact opposite personalities compared to that of their Villain counterpart- until one prime point in their "character arcs". Their Overblot.
Riddle wished to have all bow before him and obey his rules.
Leona led his entire dorm into ruin and nearly sanded away the entire school in the process.
Azul let himself finally free of his personal shackles entirely and "took what was his".
Jamil finally let himself go and opened up more in his personality, almost seeming to be driven insane in the process.
Vil wanted to become the most beautiful one of all and would kill anyone within the way of that goal without any hesitation whatsoever.
The moment that the boys' Overblotted, that was the exact moment when the "soul" of their Disney Villain counterpart took control. Keeping that idea in mind, that should mean that this will happen in the upcoming chapters and their Overblots:
Idia will show off all of the personality, powers, and intelligence that he has been keeping down within this introverted self of his.
Malleus will become so broken by being left out and alone in the cold for the final time that he will turn into a completely cruel Fae and possibly nearly kill either the MC or the representation of Prince Philip within that Chapter in the process.
(Hello, my dear Readers! Guess who is trying to get back into her bigger pieces of writing? This gal right here~ feel free to drop a comment and tell me what you think of this theory- I'd love to hear your thoughts! đ)

Centaurworld Theory Post
hi so this post contains major spoilers for like. the entirety of centaurworld. i highly recommend anyone who hasnât watched it already takes some time to do so. itâs made me insane.
I donât make meta posts, generally, so bear with me as this may be unorganized.
so rider is the general and womanâs daughter. or, she was meant to be at some point in the writing process. This is me making a wild swing in the dark based on my thought process while watching--nothing is confirmed.
To begin with--I was stricken immediately upon seeing The General for the first time with the thought, âis that her dad?â And then she started talking to him as a stranger. She had no idea who he was. There are only so many ânamedâ humans in Centaurworld, and it feels...significant, that the two of them bear such a close resemblance.
Riderâs skin is darker than Generalâs or Womanâs, but her hair and eye color are very similar to her would-be fatherâs. Plus she has his eyebrow shape.
Rider is, as far as we know, an orphan. Her parents died in the war.
That would be a convenient cover-up for the fact that General discarded her when his wife disappeared, no longer interested in playing house without her present--instead he can play the role of a big, strong, serious man, a leader, without being bogged down by a fragile little thing like a child.
My boyfriend and I have considered that he may not have done this had she looked more like her mom--but as it happens, she looks much more like her father, and as the show establishes, deep down, he doesnât like himself very much at all.
The fact that Rider becomes a soldier, chasing Generalâs approval, her own fatherâs approval, is a cruel twist of fate. She wants to be taken seriously. Wants to be seen as someone serious and important.
The first thing General does when meeting her, of course, is undermine that. Itâs not personal, heâs just a dick. I donât think he immediately recognized her as his daughter. He probably doesnât think of her much at all--he seems very involved with himself and thoughts of Woman.
But...he seems to take a liking to her. Seems to warm up to her--not in the supportive, fatherly way he should, but he sees a malleable pawn who wants his approval, and he takes advantage of that. Rider would have died for General before even meeting him, and he knows he can make use of that loyalty.
Still--at some point he does recognize that. Before the final battle, I think the reveal would have come--that heâs figured it out, that heâs recognized her, and to seal that loyalty she has in him, heâs going to tell her. That he had a daughter once. That he had to give her up for adoption because of the war, because with the life he leads, it wouldnât have been safe. He probably would have fed her some line about how fitting it is that after all these years, she found her way to him. She followed in his footsteps and grew to be a soldier heâs proud to call his daughter.
Why the fuck else would Rider look at her best friend--for so long, her only friend--and tell her, âYouâre just a horse.â
Why else would she say that if not because she was blinded by a connection she was convinced was stronger, more meaningful, than that? Sure, General is condescending about centaurs and animals like horses from the get-go, and there could be some bleedover from that attitude, since Rider has been around him so much in season 2.
But it makes so much more sense to me that her faith in Horse would falter in the face of General, who she looks up to so much, who she now knows is her father.
Her father, who--when Rider is willing to risk everything to kill the Nowhere King--finally sacrifices that perfect pawn without a thought. Without hesitation.
She looks so much like him, after all--and heâs discarded parts of himself before. Itâs easy to do it again.
General stabs Rider without hesitation or remorse, and leaves her there.
And then Woman arrives.
Woman arrives, too late, and sees Rider on the ground. She recognizes her immediately. Knows General did this.
And thatâs what pushes her to finally, finally end him. She couldnât before. And she arrived now, resolved to fix that--but seeing their daughter on the ground, dead over a war that never should have happened, is the final straw.
I donât know why Woman doesnât try to establish any sort of relationship with Rider after this. Maybe she feels she doesnât have a right. Maybe she thinks sheâd be a poor mother, now. Maybe she thinks Rider doesnât need one.
But hereâs something my boyfriend (@chaosflightâ, by the way <3) pointed out:
Riderâs hair tints a dark pinkish purple when she gets comfortable in Centaurworld. Itâs not light, like her motherâs, but itâs still a fantastical hue.
And it does make her look just a bit less like her father. More like an individual. Her own person, finally.
#centaurworld#centaurworld spoilers#rider (centaurworld)#the general (centaurworld)#woman (centaurworld)#my meta#i guess that's a tag ill need now

five years too late letâs analyze this. the commentary has gotten me back into gravity falls reigniting thoughts and insights i came to years ago
i love everything about this commentary in general it hits the points of humor, genuine analysis of the characters, but most of all im so glad hirsch addressed that the droid not detecting any fear from dipper here doesnt make any scientific sense because that was a massive CinemaSins moment for me
IDK the fact that dipper can fucking stand after an airship crash because theres a bigger threat at hand is literally one of the defining capabilities owed to adrenaline lol...... IM SORRY im a biopsychology student if i dont point that out iwill seethe and die because that was just . its a grudge ive held for a long time about this episode but didnt rant about because it was something so minor and iâm sure nobody would care.
i was 13 when this episode came out and iâm almost 19 now, i had a special interest in biology and i still do but now iâm actually having college classes in biopsychology so i can give my arguments more oomph now. and i have to say, now that i know more about the brain and autonomic nervous system the more this scene bugs me, if that was even possible. and it says a lot of dipper and fordâs relationship.
if dipper clearly wasnt calm before, why would he be now just because heâs put up an outwardly confident facade? before he was in the flight but now hes in the fight. my boy just rode on top of a spaceship by nothing but a magnet gun that could detach at any time if it failed and then the ship crashed, he sustained injuries, is in emotional turmoil because he thinks his uncle is Fucking Dead and the threat of a security droid that detects adrenaline is on his tail and produces a Big Fucking Gun in response to dipper saying âi hAvE a MaGNeT gUnâ and hes screaming and has his teeth clenched but sure thereâs no adrenaline coursing through his body in that moment i can totally believe that
when dipper asks what happened, ford says âthe orb didnât detect any chemical signs of fear, it assumed the threat was neutralized and self-disassembledâ but i donât think measuring someoneâs heartbeat alone is particularly relevant in detecting ... chemical signs of fear?? they dont really tell you this shit but noradrenaline (and maybe adrenaline too if the acetylcholine from sympathetic outflow always activates the adrenal medulla??, theres two pathways) is always active in small quantities to make sure your parasympathetic nervous system doesnt slow your heart to dangerous levels on its own, regardless of your emotions. itâs just a homeostatic mechanism. your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are CONSTANTLY modulating control of your organs on a see-saw, literally with every breath you take. simply standing upright causes specialized mechanoreceptor neurons in blood vessels to signal your brain to project signals to release catecholamines via the sympathetic nervous system to constrict your blood vessels so that blood is able to reach your brain and not pool in your legs. i have a deficiency in my bodyâs ability to adapt to this which is why i know so much about it. if i stand up my heart races to compensate. iâm not feeling fear, my body is just adjustingâalbeit grossly and incompetently lol.
but what im saying here is that the security system is flawed. itâs a cool idea to have security droids detect fear, but in practice by detecting adrenaline, and not even directly by detecting the molecule itselfâitâs done in a roundabout way by reading the heartbeat, could be a recipe for false alarms. like what if someoneâs on beta-blockers. thatâs not really an adequate way to measure âfearâ; thereâs so many variables that could interfere with the measurement the farther you abstract from what youâre really trying to detect. and besides, adrenaline is NOT just a sign of fear, itâs just for preparing the body for action. i know the sympathetic nervous system and adrenaline is constantly linked with the âfight-or-flightâ reaponse to a stressor, but 99.9% of the time the sympathetic nervous system is used in your life is to balance out your parasympathetic nervous system to maintain homeostatic equilibrium for mundane things.
i think detecting amygdalar activation would be more efficient in detecting fear. the amygdala sends projections to the hypothalamus which then in turn modulates the autonomic nervous systems. but the amygdala is intensely activated specifically in response to a fear-inducing stimulus (it does activate in response to other emotions but theyâre mostly negative and is most activated by startle and fear), and wouldnt be highly activated by many other confounding variables like measurement of the heartbeat could be. the amygala is one of the first stops directly from external stimuli.
to show you how integrated the amygdala is as the first step in registering fear after receiving input from sensory stimuli letâs look at the auditory-amygdala connection for example
see how the auditory thalamus projects to the primary auditory cortex and auditory association cortex? the cortex is where conscious awareness of what the stimuli is comes from. this is the âhigh roadâ. it goes sensing -> perception -> emotional response. but sometimes you can be startled without even processing what it is youâre sensing, like the startle response of an alarm or a phone ringing in a quiet house before you even register what it is. this goes sensing -> emotional response, without perception happening until after youâve already felt the startle. thatâs when it takes the âlow roadâ. hereâs a simplified version:
even if that were the case with these droids though itâs obvious dipper is still fearful on some level here. his body language, voice, expressions all give it away. for the amygdala, aggression isnt too off from fear so it would be detected equally.
the reason this is so important is because ford uses this as evidence for why dipper is special, âi did it?â âyou did it. this is what i was talking about, how many 12 year olds do you think are capable of doing what youâve just done?â
but like....did he really? iâm not saying this to shoot dipper down or make him out to be more of a wuss, he was incredibly strong-willed here and i dont want to take that away from him because it WAS growth on his part. but the underlying psychophysiological reactions of aggression and fear shouldnât be that different and this was a total asspull. maybe the droid was so old that it fucked up. maybe dipper being covered in grime and dirt made it harder for the droid to measure the correct heart rate through photoplethysmography (im assuming since they use a camera and are non-contact).
and in all honesty everything i just said brings into question the interpersonal healthiness of fordâs judgements, what he thinks, his expectations, and how he communicates that. in this video alex already talks about how ford is projecting onto dipper. and i think ford may be projecting his expectations for himself onto people who are not him, and the fact that itâs on dipper here makes it far more unfortunate. you realize how much this boy idolizes ford, right? how much impressions matter? dipper even tells himself before he leaves in this same episode, âall right dipper, this is your first big mission with great uncle ford. donât mess this up.â
even though itâs unstated, the implicit message dipper is perceiving from ford based on their dynamic is: âdo you have what it takes for me to be proud of you?â and to accomplish this he must be like ford, even though heâs clearly not and he knows this. he says âi donât think have what it takes. i was tricked by bill, i was wrong about stanâs portal, heck, i canât even operate this magnet gun right.â then, by simple chance without even knowing what he did, he activates the magnet gun and pulls out the adhesive, which immediately takes the focus away from what dipper was telling ford about his feelings of inadequacy to ford saying, âyes! dipper, you found the adhesive!â
these thoughts of dipperâs hang in the air without resolve or comment from ford. we donât know what ford would have said. but it then becomes painfully self-evident in the scene immediately after when the droids emerge and ford tells dipper, âtheyâre security droids and they detect adrenaline. you simply have to not feel any fear and they wonât see youâ, to which dipper replies with an exasperated (and rightful) âWHAT?â
dipper goes in a panic trying to indirectly tell his uncle that this isnât something he can do. and he is completely right and valid to be freaked out by that full stop. that IS crazy. you canât control your fear. you can control how you interpret that fear in your higher brain regions but the physiological changes will stick around for longer than it takes to cognitively calm down. itâs easy for me to detach from my emotions to analyze them, but being able to do this does not come naturally for everyone. even i have an irrational fear of wasps and i canât control it by detaching myself, my body is just automatically primed to get the fuck out of there. i know itâs stupid and i know itâs irrational and isnât helpful to get myself worked up but i literally canât stop how my body reacts no matter how i cognitively think about it. expecting composure from dipper in a situation like this when heâs being made to consciously be aware of his anxiety is absolutely fucking insane. look what you did, placing these cruel expectations on him, now heâs afraid of being afraid! this isnât a case where two wrongs cancel out, they just stack on top of each other.
youtube
thereâs a good reason these scenes were put side by side but it seems up until now it had remained unanalyzed.
what dipper fears from ford is disappointment. not living up to his uncleâs (quite frankly badly placed) expectations for a twelve year old with anxiety. not once did ford say or subliminally communicate âi donât expect you to be able to do what i can since you are not as experienced as i am and thatâs perfectly okay, no judgementsâ. you donât put a child on bike before training wheels. you donât throw a kid into a swimming pool without giving them swimming lessons. the way ford is doing it, thereâs no room for trial and error or mistakes that are an opportunity to grow and learn; instead, itâs life or death. he only seems to pride dipper on what he can do while ignoring the underlying struggles that plague him and never making it known itâs okay for dipper to fail in front of his hero and that he wonât think anything less of him for it.
and thatâs why i found the ending scene for dipper and fordâs adventure in this episode to feel so.. wrong. on a scientific and social level. because by the sound of it ford focused more on what dipper had done to dismantle the droid (the droid not detecting any fear) instead of how dipper displayed love and protection for him even if he was truly afraid. what if the science was accurate and the droid detected adrenaline while dipper was confidently standing up for his uncle. would ford still be proud of him regardless?
#can you tell how iâm similar to ford but also so different like i said in that other post lol#gravity falls#analysis#dipper pines#stanford pines#long post#gf#gravity falls meta

Rewriting my Diluc housewife thoughts but I saved it in my notes this time, but I made it infinitely more sexist than it already was before bc 1) I was in the kink mood and 2) the spirits of writing gods possessed my body and told me that is the way all Diluc content should be, so, this is major 1950s-ish housewifey horrendously misogynistic shit, you've been warned. Like, even *I* looked back over this and was like "wow this is vile" which is kinda saying something for me so, putting the nastier parts under cut for the sake of my followers' eyes ----------- I was thinking about the post a while back about Diluc reforming a criminal darling - a thief around Mondstadt that's been on a crime spree and of course he catches wind of that and goes to defeat the perpetrator (surprisingly very easy? How is a thief this weak?) and haul the bastard off to jail except... What's this? Said criminal is actually just some girl and not a gross ugly bastard?? This changes things. Clearly, this was not an intentional act of malice or greed, but rather, he, master of criminal psychologyâą, rationalizes that the world is far too cruel for unwifed girls that have no one to depend on, a cold terrible place, so you must have been driven to these actions out of desperation. You had no provider, no caretaker, which are needs. How could you possibly be expected to provide a means of living for yourself?? This is just the consequences of the unfairness of the world. However, things all work out in the end. You need to be taken care of and restrained from these self-destructive choices by force (since you cannot recognize how bad it is, not that you're expected to, it's natural that you have poor perception, that's why you need a man to make choices for you), and he needs a wife. This solution benefits all parties.
He is, however, a rather dense man, and doesn't really think to like, tell you that. Or tell you anything. He's too lost in thought in his planning -- gonna get you new clothes to replace your ragged ones, gonna have to rearrange the guard schedule so they can watch the house better, all that -- and just kinda slings you up and over his shoulder without a word. Ignores you kicking and hitting because it doesn't really hurt or anything, you're too weak for that. Just says heâll explain in detail later, but donât worry, youâre not going to jail. Heâs just taking you home. This is better, he says. Stop struggling so much, what, you want to go to jail? No? Then be still. And you don't recognize that it's good for you yet, but again, that's expected. In a better time or society, you would have been married off sooner, and prevented from ever falling victim to your own decision making to begin with, but the world isn't perfect and you can be forgiven for it. You're not responsible for your own actions since you can't comprehend them. It's frustrating and he sighs a bit over it, but that's just the way things are. You'll be happy in the long run, even if it takes a while, you're naturally programmed for a better lifestyle he has in mind. And, really, he's glad you weren't married off, because if you were then he never would have had you, so even though it was technically unideal, the stars align and the universe works out things perfectly. It's all the more of a sign that this was fate and you were made for him. The issue is that a hardened criminal darling is... Not the ideal candidate for a housewife. To some extent, he's right that the criminal underworld hardens a person, you can't survive in that realm if you're submissive or weak willed. And criminal darling certainly is not. Loud mouthed, opinionated, argumentative, bad attitude, defiant and aggressive and very much unafraid. A complete loose cannon. All very unfavorable traits. Worst of all, very much unaccepting of and ungrateful for the privilege of a second chance and being graciously granted the opportunity for a better life. Lots of bad behaviors.
The cursing is a problem. It's not very... Wife-like. Gives off a bad image, you know. Especially since said cursing is usually directed at him at a very loud volume with a snarl and getting all up in his face to tell him he's fucking insane and a bastard. To be honest, the worst part isn't the words themselves, it's the fact that you are so unafraid to be defiant and so fiery that is the primary issue. You disobey very deliberately. Little acts of pettiness. Being mean to the maids who are so graciously trying to teach you how to cook (at his direction), since you had no idea how to (and nearly burned his house down as a result). The first time you were mean and bitter and that's how you learned they report back to him about how you behaved. It did not go over well. Â
Intentionally burning food. Once you somehow found a bottle in a cabinet somewhere in the mansion and put rat poison in his food, made him sick. Muttering a sarcastic whoops and shoving a vase off to crash and shatter on the floor. Early on you refused to wear all the nice dresses you were generously given and even tried to go through his clothes to find something to wear, which was kinda cute since it was way too big, but still. You mutter and grumble under your breath every time you're given a command. The most important thing is sex, though. You know, your job. One of your only real responsibilities. He has a very stressful job. It's only reasonable that he can expect to come home to his sweet, loving little wife with open arms and equally open legs. You've probably fucked around a bit right? For money, for favors, for intel, you get the idea, lots of ties to criminal gangs to earn their trust. So, if you do it for something so insignificant, how much more does he deserve it for taking care of you fully? You should -- and you will, with time -- drop to your knees the second he walks through the door. But instead, sigh, you fight and whimper and cover your face in shame after you spasm and cum, and worst of all, you actively try not to cum. You shouldn't feel ashamed of that, it's good, he says. Sure, you may not be officially married (since the laws of Mondstadt unfortunately require that whole "consent" thing for both parties, ugh), but, he's basically your husband right? So, it's perfectly normal, you're supposed to cum for him. Maybe once you're all knocked up you'll be even hornier, and less shameful. He actually wasn't expecting you to be this bad. Incredibly stubborn and prideful. Literally the exact opposite traits of a good wife, you know, submissive and humble and obedient. He kinda thought that it was like... automatic. That once he just kinda shoved you in the right environment, it would be like flipping a switch right? Apparently not. But no matter. It can be changed, with effort and time. You're worth it. See, you're not supposed to backtalk him, you're supposed to smile and do what you're told without question. You're supposed to submit and obey, and instead you seem hellbent on pissing him off out of spite - and frankly, you're doing a good job of achieving that. Every time you defy him it sparks an irritation he can't describe, worse than he'd normally get from just being snarled at by anyone - no, something about being disrespected by someone he feels is beneath him makes him much, much angrier than it would be if it were, say, one of the business partners who get snappy and argumentative very frequently. He could break you and it would be easy, don't you know that? You stomp and you hit him and you yell, but clearly you process that you have to look up to look him in the eye, you have to realize how much smaller you are. You hit him even though you have to know by now he'll just grab your wrists, and like always you'll be unable to even hope of pulling out of his grip, the strength difference between you two is so great. There's no way you don't realize all that, yet you continue to behave the way you do. The inferiority is so blatantly obvious, but you act as if it's not. He spends a lot of time contemplating the source of this, the cause of your behavior, it occupies his thoughts. It's like... You resent him for something. Could it possibly be kidnapping you and keeping you as a glorified sex slave? No, no, that's not it. It's something else, yes. Are you just bitter about being inferior in, you know, every conceivable way? Is that it? The criminality for you was compensation to make you feel powerful, perhaps. You have a complex. You resent him not for anything he's done, but because you know he's stronger and smarter and generally superior to you. You don't want to accept it. You're prideful when you shouldn't be. You're supposed to be humble and content with your inferiority. Yeah, that's it. You just have a negative perception of the lifestyle you're supposed to have. Maybe some event in your life or someone else warped your view of things. You don't realize how happy you'd be if you just accepted it. Yes, if you submitted to it, if you swallowed your pride and actually accepted your place, you'd find you would be very happy, you just don't know that. Or maybe, your brain can't grasp something like that. After all, that's the reason you're supposed to be the submissive party of the two of you, you're not as bright or perceptive (says the densest man alive). You have to be... Led. Guided. So he says it. He is, again, a dense man. He does not really think about the fact that perhaps blatantly confronting you with the epiphany he thinks he's had and specifically using the words inferior and weak and small is probably not going to make you very happy. You get bitchy and bratty and try to hit him and he sighs because, see, this is exactly what he's talking about. You reacting the way you did only confirms you do have a complex, he says. So, how could he go about... reconditioning? He is not the most creative man, but thankfully it's a rather easy problem to solve. If you're reminded of a reality often enough, you have to accept it. For starters, using physical strength against you. Maybe that will metaphorically open your eyes. Holds you down in place when you're hitting him like you do, firmly bending you over a counter or whatever and just holding you in place. Come on, try to get up, try to push him off. You snarl and claw at the marble and push will all your strength, but he doesn't budge, not until you politely apologize and ask him to let you up. If you're being difficult and not going where he tells you to, well, he can just sling you up over his shoulder and carry you. If you're fighting being fucked he can just flip you over and press your face into the mattress and hold you still, and you can't help but take the brutal reality that you're basically a ragdoll to him, that is, physically overpowering you doesn't even require trying. It helps to knock you down a peg, remind you of your place and maybe get you to swallow that pride a bit. The orgasms and fucking have a similar effect -- every time you can't help but feel like he has a power over you. And really, he kinda does. Every time you lay there still panting and shivering in aftershock, the shame comes swarming in, all the obscene noises you made and the way you came undone under the person that treats you like property. Even if the rational part of you knows better, you can't help but feel like in a way it's like you let him win, allowed yourself to more or less prove him right. Maybe you'll learn better if you're in more humiliating positions. Stuck getting rammed from behind, hand forcing your face down and ass up. Actually correcting bad behaviors requires more direct approaches, so he takes the... Old fashioned route. After all, it's pretty much guaranteed to work. You don't listen to words, you don't listen to reason, but you'll certainly listen to handprints and belt welts on your ass. It's the first time you really, truly break, and that brings him a lot of satisfaction. The first time you really cry and whimper and beg and apologize so profusely it feels like you mean it for once. Granted, for a while you just persist in your bad behaviors and even try to run when you see him sigh and take the belt off, but you never get far. And, most notably, you actually fix your behaviors, with enough reminders. At one point, the next time you start being bad and get to bitching and snarling and putting up a fight, you catch the look on his face and, for once, you shut your mouth and look down and mumble an apology by default. See, you're learning. Speaking of, you still have that major issue with backtalking him. You're supposed to submit to him and acknowledge his authority over you. So he gets firm. Grabs you by the jaw and forces you to look him in the eye and reminds you that you will *not* get an attitude with him. You *will* show some respect. You say yes sir and no sir and do what you're told. And if you forget, he can give you a reminder, if you want that. But you shake your head with fear in your eyes, say you don't want that. It makes you mad. You want to lash back, but you swallow your pride and mutter a fine - before realizing the mistake, violating the rule you were just reminded of. You stammer out a yes sir but it's already too late. He has to control himself too, not let his anger get the better of him. He speaks in a way that isn't snarling and mean, but rather firm, cold, a flat tone that asserts dominance and demands respect. But... still wants you to like him. So he has to be nice, too. After all, you'll learn better if you're rewarded for being good, right? So you can get little rewards. Words of affirmation. A pat to the head. He'll buy you something you want, let you drink a bit (since, as a thief, of course, you had a problem with that before you came home, but that had to be corrected too, since drunkenness isn't very befitting). And sooner or later he does have a really good little wife. He's proud of you. You smile and obey commands without complaining. He can come home every day, and rather than hearing a long report from the staff about how much trouble you caused that day, instead you have food and smiles and sweet affection waiting on him, you hug him when he walks through the door. You're polite and sweet to the various business partners and guests that come through -- you don't speak to them without permission though, of course, and you look down at the ground so you don't make eye contact with another man. People say he's lucky and how they wish they had a wife that was so outwardly affectionate to them as you are to him, always clinging to him physically. And you don't complain or every object to anything, you just smile and say yes and do it. It makes him happy in a weird way he can't quite articulate. A warm swell of pride, a feeling of success. You have vague memories of a time when you were breaking into houses just to scrape by, not knowing when you'd eat next, not knowing where you'd sleep. It's kind of a fuzzy memory now. You don't have to worry about those things anymore, and you're a lot happier this way.

Nothing Left (Ivar x reader)
A/N: This is my entry to @geekandbooknerd 2k Writing Challenge. Congratulations again, Hayley, you deserve each and every one of us đ»
The gif is a dead giveaway: this piece is an angsty one đŹ Sorry about that but I feel like I canât write fluff all the time đ
Prompt in bold
Thanks to @zuxiezendler for beta reading this for me (hope you don't mind Hayley, but since it was for your challenge... đ)
Let me know if you want to be tagged đ
Summary: Leaving Ivar is not an easy task.
Warnings: angst; Ivar's temper; physical assault (no harm done, though); Freydis is beautiful; no happy ending (you've been warned).
Words: 2089
Crutch â right foot â left foot â crutch â right foot â left foot
You can hear him coming. Of course, you can.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" He's not yet in your shared bedroom and he's already shouting. Instead of turning around, you grab the little carved wooden wolf he gifted you many years ago and put it in your pouch.
As he stabs the wooden floor with his crutch, you can physically feel his anger. "You thought you could sneak out? Uh?" You know his jaw is clenched, and he's probably shaking with rage.
"This is what you intended to do, admit it!"
You just scoff. No, you didn't intend to sneak out, not in your wildest dreams. Not with White Hair's men everywhere, night and day.
A thump â his fist hitting the table, you'd say â and then a roar.
"ANSWER YOUR KING!!!!!"
Glancing over your shoulder, you give him a tired, defeated smile. You don't want to fight. You never wanted to. "What does it look like to you, Ivar? Do you really think I'm trying to sneak out? Of course, I'm not."
"Rumors are false, that's what you're saying?" He snorts and, taking two more steps into the room, he joins you. "What's that, then?" He gestures angrily toward a wooden trunk, filled to the brim with your belongings, mostly dresses and a few jewels.
"I'm leaving, if that's what rumors say, Ivar, I'm just not sneaking out." You speak softly while closing the trunk.
A wide-eyed look on his face, he can't hide his surprise at your easy admission but he quickly pulls himself together, straightening up and towering over you.
"You can't. I forbid you." Giving you an intimidating look, he grits his teeth.
You barely shake your head. There's so much sadness in your heart. "Of course, I can. I'm not asking for permission, you know? I'm leaving, whether you like it or not."
That's when he explodes, his bottom lip quivering. "I SAID, I FORBID YOU! FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE, YOU WILL DO AS YOU'RE TOLD, Y/N! I. AM. YOUR. KING!"
His scream is so loud that you can't help but take a step back. But you don't lower your gaze. You won't. You can't. So, keeping your chin up, you inhale slowly. "And I'm still a free woman, Ivar. I'm leaving today."
You know the man you once loved is not going to make that so easy for you. So, you're not surprised when he grabs your wrist so firmly you can't shake him off. Tossing his crutch on the floor, he places his now free hand on your shoulder. Looking at him, you can tell you've rarely seen him this angry. Never releasing the pressure on your wrist, he throws you against the nearest wall so hard that the back of your skull makes a resounding "clunk".
He leans in close to you, his breath stinking faintly of honeyed mead, and presses the weight of his body against you. "You're not leaving, Y/N." He then moves his hand from your shoulder to your throat and the air is immediately stolen from you as you stare into his now darkened eyes. With your right hand still pinned to the wall, you only have your left to defend yourself. You're slapping him, clawing at him, but you may as well be tickling him with a feather â your scratches and punches have no effect on him whatsoever.
"I could kill you, Y/N. Maybe I should." The threat is clear, obvious, but Ivar loosens his grip just enough for you to breathe. He won't harm you. Not yet anyway.
Clearing your throat, you don't look away. "Maybe you should. It wouldn't be the worst thing for me, you know? One way or another, I wouldn't be here anymore."
Your words sting, you can see it on his face as he steps away, wobbling and dumbstruck.
Slowly leaning forward, you grab his discarded crutch before giving it back to him. "Here." You mutter before taking a seat on the bed. Ivar follows suit, flopping down next to you.
Blinking several times, Ivar is obviously trying to come to terms with what you just said. "So, you'd rather be dead than here? With me?" His voice is shaking and he fidgets with his fingers on his lap.
"Ivar, there's nothing left here for me⊠Nothing⊠We just don't understand each other anymore, you know that. I don't understand you anymore, Ivar. Since Wessex, you've changed so muchâŠ"
You've tried. You've tried very hard. But this man, this king, is no longer the man you fell in love with.
"It's about Sigurd, isn't it?" Ivar asks sadly, but you immediately shake your head.
"No Ivar, you know it's not. I told you, even though I wish you hadn't killed him, I understand why you did it. And I know you didn't want to."
"It's about my legs, then." His face suddenly hardens but you know him, he always hides his pain behind anger. "I knew it. I knew this day would come. You're tired of the cripple, admit it."
Without thinking, you grab his hand, entwining his fingers with yours. As much as you resent him for what he has become, you can't let him run himself down like this. " It has nothing to do with your legs. Your legs have never bothered me, and they never will. You're stronger than all other men, not in spite of your legs, but because of them. Actually, you're the strongest man I know, and I've always felt proud to walk beside you, or to be your woman. I forbid you to doubt it."
"Why, then?" Ivar is so soft now, seems to be so⊠broken, you have to remind yourself why you're leaving. You have to remind yourself of the horror.
Closing your eyes, you conjure up frightful images behind your eyelids.
"You killed Margrethe, Ivar. You didn't have to do that."
He tenses beside you, releasing his hand from your grip. "She was talking rubbish all the time, she was spreading rumors about me, you know that!!"
"She was insane, Ivar! She was no danger, neither to you nor to anyone. And as for the rumors, I'm loud enough for people to know that you can pleasure a woman. She was harmless, and you killed her, and that, Ivar, I can't understand. And then, you did worse. You killed Thora." You can't help but wince, the stench of burning flesh still so vivid in your mind, you'd swear it's real.
Fuming, Ivar points an accusing finger at you. "She defaced my image. She was plotting behind my back. She was conspiring, criticizing me. She saw me as a tyrant while I was just trying to rule well. She was a FUCKING DANGER!"
Startled by his shout, you stand up hastily. "You burned her alive, Ivar!! You burned her entire family. Asbjorn, her brother, had not yet seen his tenth spring. And you killed him!" You know he can see the disgust on your face, and the truth is, you don't care. He deserves your disgust. He deserves your contempt. He deserves you falling out of love with him. "Thora was your brother's lover and she was my friend and you burned her alive!!! How could you?" Your hands tangled in your hair, you shake your head, still barely able to process the horror of what he did.
"And what was I supposed to do, huh?" Ivar seems unshaken, and it strengthens your resolve. He doesn't know between good and evil, not anymore. You want to reply that he could have exiled her, or had her thrown in jail, but to what end? What's done is done, and your former lover is a monster now.
"It doesn't matter, Ivar⊠What matters is that you're like a stranger. I don't know who you are anymore. Since this girl, you've changed." You shrug, blinking back tears.
Ivar rolls his eyes. "So that's what it was all about? I can't believe you're jealous, Y/N. This girl⊠It's just a... thrall"
Oh gods! There's none so deaf as those that will not hear, right?
"I'm not jealous, Ivar. She was naked on your lap, but I'm not jealous. Or maybe I was, but it doesn't matter anymore. And I don't give a damn about what or who she is. But she was whispering nonsense in your ear, and since then you've changed. I don't recognize you anymore. You're no longer the man I loved, Ivar..." Your words are genuine, your heart full of sorrow.
Still sitting on the bed, Ivar tilts his head. "You... You can't leave me, Y/N. What... What will I do without you?" His quivering voice sends shivers down your spine. But you won't change your mind. This man in front of you, unsure and insecure, is nothing but a ghost of who he once was. The boy you loved is gone. Dead. Killed by his inner demons.
Swallowing, Ivar slowly stands up, and frowns when you step back. "Y/N," he speaks again, reaching out but to no avail as you stubbornly put your hands on your back, "you're the person I don't need to explain myself to â not when it matters. You see everything I am and you don't run away from it. I... I can't do without you."
Your eyes filling with tears, you shake your head. "I can't be this person anymore, Ivar. I've tried, but I can't. I don't know you at all anymore. You've become the monster that people thought you were. You're paranoid, and narcissistic, and self-centered. You're cruel, and mean, and fearsome. I won't lie, sometimes I still see a shadow of the man â the boy â you used to be. But most of the time, what I see in your eyes is something scary and unfamiliar. I have said it before and I will say it again. I don't recognize you anymore, Ivar. I don't know who you are. You've done terrible things, which I cannot and will not forget and forgive. That's why I'm leaving." Pointing to the trunk, you bite the inside of cheek until it bleeds. "I'll send someone to get it later."
Heading out, you don't wait for his answer. There's nothing he can say that is going to change your mind.
Yet, you stop in your tracks when he calls your name, "Y/N!" his voice sounding like a wounded animal. Slowly turning around, you can see a single tear running down his face. "Please..." He begs and it kills you, because Ivar the Boneless doesnât beg; never begs. For a fleeting moment, your resolve falters. Maybe you can still save your love. Maybe you can bring back the man he was. Maybe it's not too late. Maybe...
And then, a shadow slips between the heavy doors of the great hall and you recognize the thrall. She's undoubtedly beautiful. Stunning. Gorgeous. Flawless.
Without even according you a glance, she walks with a confident stride and as soon as Ivar sees her, you can tell you cease to exist for him. Enthralled, he watches her every step, a sparkle dancing in his eyes.
Tears flow on your cheeks, but it doesn't matter. You were right.
This is the end.
It's like torture but you can't bring yourself to walk away. So, you watch. You see Ivar closing the gap between them, inviting her to sit down, pouring mead into a cup and handing it to her. "How are you? I've been thinking about you." You feel like you're going to throw up as you see the smile on his lips; as you realize how easily he forgot about you.
His next question nearly kills you. "Are you married?"
You can't believe your ears. You can't stay here anymore. You can't breathe.
You don't want to hear her answer. You know what she will say. And at this moment, deep down inside, you know he will marry her. Of course, he will. He will marry her because she will always be willing to whisper in his ear what he wants to hear.
A blond woman, attractive and seemingly submissive â you know better, but Ivar doesn't âswaying her hips... That's all it takes for Ivar to forget you.
You. Can't. Breathe.
You won't die here from a shattered heart, though. Your pride won't allow it. So, stumbling, your head spinning, you walk away, your fist in your mouth to keep you from screaming.
You were right. There's nothing left.
Nothing.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 11 first part
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Goodness)
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Okay! This episode is a real slice of healthy family dynamics, not triggering in any way. [Uh if this is your first Restless Rewatch: that is sarcasm, dear readers]
Goodbye to You, Goodbye to Everything We Knew
Nie Huaisang asks why Meng Yao has to leave and Meng Yao says "I killed a guy without permission, so your brother fired me."Â
Ha ha ha ha no he doesn't. But he does give Nie Huaisang a sweet, sad smile; he seems touched by NHS's distress.Â
Meng Yao carefully removes Nie Huaisang's hands from his shoulders and bows to him, wordlessly signaling the change in their relationship from intimate friends to formal strangers, while Nie Huaisang looks crushed.Â
They will return to intimate friendship in the future, but falsely. Meng Yao believes that truly loving a person can include destroying their family and using them as an instrument in your murder plots as long as you don't directly harm them. Â Nie Huaisang eventually learns to use people just as brutally, but he doesn't lie to himself about what he's doing. This farewell may be the last harmless moment between these friends.Â
Jiang Cheng is distressed by what's going on, while Wei Wuxian crosses his arms and watches, fully in Sherlock Holmes mode, instead of his more usual concerned-for-my-friend mode. This may signal mistrust of Meng Yao, who refused his initial attempt at friendship, and not in a sexy, slice-your-face-off way. Â Or it may mean that he's reserving judgement on a complicated family situation. He maintains his uncharacteristic reserve through the entire encounter.Â
(more behind the cut!)
Nie Huaisang runs in and asks his brother WTF happened. Nie Mingjue says "he killed my subordinate without permission, when he knows perfectly well power must flow from the ruler; it's like he didn't even read that Foucault book I gave him."
Ha ha ha actually he just yells at his brother, as if NHS doesnât have his own relationship with Meng Yao after being wonder twink powers with him for probably a couple of years now. NHS has to sit and process his loss and confusion in silence.
As a younger sibling who would make friends with my older siblings' girlfriends and then lose those friends if they broke up, for reasons having nothing to do with why I liked their girlfriends, I super feel Nie Huaisang's pain here.
OTOH, older siblings are entitled to have break ups and not explain themselves to anyone besides their lover because that's the nature of intimacy. The moral is, uhh...don't have a family curse that makes you unreasonably angry.Â
Jiang Cheng steps up to advocate for Meng Yao, because Meng Yao is injured, and because Jiang Cheng is actually a born leader who knows better than to throw away a useful subordinate. For example, even when Wei Wuxian is at his drunkest and most defiant, Jiang Cheng tries to reform him, not kick him out, only drawing the line at having unpopular zombie friends.
Wei Wuxian continues to keep his mouth shut, waiting for Nie Mingjue to calm down, and speaking only about the tactical situation. He clearly knows there's more to this story but he's pretty good at keeping his head down in a family ruckus, and we're about to learn why.
Yunmeng Town
The Yunmeng bros go home to Lotus Pier, where they are greeted in town with bows, smiles, and free stuff.
We've mostly been seeing them in their roles within the cultivation community, where Jiang Cheng is grumpy and anxious, and Wei Wuxian is sassy and iconoclastic. Here among common people, they are both charming, friendly, and polite, like the imaginary good kind of gentry.
They hear the news from a local lotus seller that the small clans are coming to the Jiang Clan for shelter, but that otherwise everything's ok, which doesn't sound like everything is ok at all. He gives Wei Wuxian a giant bag of lotuses for his sister to make soup from.
Home to Lotus Pier
All the disciples practicing in the courtyard at Lotus Pier are excited to see them, and one girl goes running to tell Jiang Yanli. Thanks to the admittedly beautiful design of Lotus Pier, she is running for a long time.
A long, long time. Getting around on all these insane walkways must be a real drag if you're not the flying sort of cultivator.
Discipline and Punish
Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian immediately go and kneel while they wait for their official punishment. Jiang Cheng is kinda worried about the punishment and Wei Wuxian is like, I'm good at being punished, just let me do it.Â
Much later, and for a really long fucking time
He also tries to get Jiang Cheng to stop being mad, even giving him skritches while he says they should be brothers after they die.
Which they will, as it happens, although Jiang Cheng after the Wen torture is only mostly golden-core dead, while WWX dies for real.
When Jiang Fengmian shows up Jiang Cheng starts to explain that they were with Lan Wangji, but Wei Wuxian hushes him; he is still keeping the secret of the Yin Iron. Although he's keeping it in exactly the manner that a teenager keeps their weed stash secret: immediately tell literally every teen friend about it, but keep it extra secret from everybody's parents.Â
Happy Families Are All Alike
Now we get to meet Yu Ziyuan, who is generally styled Madame Yu but who I'm going to call by her name just as if she was a male character. More on that concept in a minute. She rolls up looking, smelling, feeling like a million yuan, with her two murder bitches in tow.
Her marriage is an unhappy one, and her husband does his best to avoid her and avoid conflict, lying to the kids that she's tired and then sending her away later with the same line about being tired, which is a particularly gendered kind of gaslighting. She is obviously not tired, other than being tired of Jiang Fengmian's shit.
I'm not going to say she's the worst mother ever, because parenthood in a feudal society entails a wide range of skills, many of which she has in abundance. She starts off with a relatively tender greeting to Jiang Cheng, tuning up his always-amazing sartorial style, which is exactly like her own. They are all ready for the mommy & me fashion show.
That said, she dishes out hellacious verbal abuse to everyone in her family. She targets each one in turn, making Wei Wuxian the focus of most of her ire, but without ever directly speaking to him. He is not, in her view, part of her family.Â
The Stages of Family Dinner
1. Try to fix it and defuse the situation
2. Yeah no
3. Just keep your head down and be glad itâs not your turn in the hot seat
This family meal hammers home how much Wei Wuxian is not, actually, part of the family. Jiang Fengmian adopted him into the clan, and told A-Cheng and A-Yi to treat him as a sibling, but he didn't give him the Jiang name, and he didn't get his wife's approval. He also doesnât expect him to dress like any other clan member, apparently.Â
Compare this to how Lan Wangji, actual good parent, fully integrates his own adopted son into his clan and family, starting with giving him the Lan surname. Â
The hits just keep coming as she goes after Jiang Cheng for being less gifted than Wei Wuxian, Yanli for performing labor for Wei Wuxian, and Jiang Fengmian for possibly begetting Wei Wuxian.
On first watching this scene I took her question "Is this how you raise someone else's son?" to mean that she thought Jiang Fengmian was being too nice to a kid who was actually an outsider, taking resources away from the real kids. But on rewatching, it's pretty clear that she's saying his favoring Wei Wuxian is evidence that Wei Wuxian is NOT someone else's son; that he's Jiang Fengmian's bastard.Â
Jiang Fengmian doesn't say a thing to this, or to her mentioning WWXâs mother. This shit is why WWX is running around in the world desperate for any crumb of info he can get about his Mom; he hears about her all the goddamn time at home, but only as insults to her character. Â
A Bitch is Not Wrong
Here's the thing, though; a lot of what Yu Ziyuan says is correct.Â
Jiang Fengmian should be a lot more concerned about the danger to the children, and should not leave it up to the kids to decide who's going to bear that danger.
Yanli does a lot of food=love, which is ok in the right doses, but causes her to pretty extremely lose face during the whole "soup for Jin Zixuan" debacle. And her doting on Wei Wuxian is...kinda excessive. I mean, yeah, sheâs more like a mom than a sister to him, but still. Running out onto an active battlefield to look for him, frex, will be a skosh too much.Â
I have a dictionary too, mom
Jiang Cheng, as the future clan leader, shouldn't let his attachments affect his decision making, and should let Wei Wuxian, who's the superior cultivator, fend for himself more often. We love Jiang Cheng for those moments where he puts himself in harm's way to protect his loved ones, but it's not a good strategy. He constantly yells at Wei Wuxian for the exact same thing he does all the time himself; he just limits who he does it for.
After she roasts the shit out of everyone for these failings, she leaves, and everyone sits around being miserable and not talking about what just happened.Â
Not to be gender studies-y on main but: the awful things she says to her children are really not very different from the things that Jiang Cheng says to Jin Ling, although her targeting is more adept. JC also says a lot of mean things to WWX when heâs angry. When a man says cruel or insulting things, it's often presented as real love hidden under a rough exterior. When a woman does it, she's a monster.
If you enjoy this sort of interaction you should definitely have a look at Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and the plays of Eugene O'Neill.
Road Runner
Oh thank god, moving on
Lan Wangji is headed back to Cloud Recesses, and gets ambushed by the roadside with the most ridiculous trap this side of Wile E. Coyote.
Wen Chao thinks the "rug over a hole" trap is a good idea for someone who can literally fly.
Lan Wangji doesn't faff about with sword riding, he just fucking goes up in the air and stays there until he is good goddamn ready to come down. A hole in the sidewalk is really not going to be a problem for him.Â
Wen Zhuliu does get in one kick before Lan Wanji yeets backwards away from him, in a moment that's scarier on rewatching, now that I know what Wen Zhuliu is capable of.
Wen Chao talks some smack to Lan Wangji, hilariously complaining about "your patronizing tone" to a man who has literally never spoken a word to him, IIRC, and certainly isn't speaking now. Maybe it's a mistranslation and should be "attitude," or maybe Wen Chao is just that dumb.
Apparently Wei Wuxian made a stack of talismans for Lan Wangji to take on the road with him. This talisman is a twin to the one Lan Wangji brings out way, way later in Yunping, when Wei Wuxian says "you even have kept it until now." Missing scene alert! What else did he make for him?
In Yunping this talisman is used to distract some random harmless street bullies. Here it is used against a seven-man murder squad.
This works.
Assault on Cloud Recesses
Forgettable disciple #1, Su She, comes rushing in to tell Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen that Cloud Recesses is under attack.
I'm pretty sure these dudes already know it, because they are meditating extra hard with a buttload of incense, and Lan Qiren is about to cough up some blood. So I think they're trying to hold the ward, rather than just, like, chilling while their disciples get stabbed.
Cloud Recesses is super on fire, you guys; it's going to totally burn to the ground; look at that conflagration, oh the humanity, etc.
Lan Qiren Rises to the Occasion
Ok, I like to rag on Failmaster Qiren and he is definitely an authoritarian dick a whole lot of the time, but in this scene he is fucking amazing.
He starts off worrying about Lan Wangji, not just out of affection but out of strategic planning, probably in equal parts. All three of these Lans take their clan responsibilities extremely seriously.
Then he calmly assesses the situation while imperturbable Lan Xichen freaks the fuck out.Â
Lan Xichen is right to be alarmed, because he knows his uncle, he knows one of them is likely to die, and he knows that Lan Qiren will choose to take the hit.
I love, love, love Lan Qiren's physicality here; how centered and assured he is, as he holds his nephew steady and explains what is required of both of them.
Lan Xichen knows Lan Qiren is right. He is utterly fucking devastated, and all he can do to show his love...
...is to obey.Â
This whole scene just. kills me.
Su She and forgettable disciple #2 are in the room for this whole conversation, and they join Lan Xichen in this deep bow. Note: I will be reminding everyone of this fact in Part 2.
Whew. This episode is a LOT. Part 2 Coming Soon!
Writing Prompt: What other goodies did Wei Wuxian put in Lan Wangji's care package before Lan Wangji hit the road without saying goodbye?
Soundtrack:Â 1. Michelle Branch, Goodbye to You 2. Ludacris, Stand Up

The greatest headache ever
Harry Styles x Meredith Cooper
(part of the hey doctor series)
When Harry starts getting headaches bad enough to where he has to go to the emergency room, Meredith is there to help. This is the story of how they met.
Warning: mentions of hospitals, slight mentions of needles, just medical things.
Word count: 2.1k
gif not mine.
Whenever Meredith worked overtime at the hospital, those always seemed to be the same days that Harry didnât have to go to the studio, or the days that Harry had something planned for the two of them.
Meredith was the definition of a workaholic, making it very difficult for her to often go home on time after her shift. Harry tried to get her to take more breaks as the years of dating her went on, but she never let up.
He would say, âbaby, Iâm only looking out for your health.â
To which she would respond with, âactually, Iâm looking out for my patients health.â
She was at the hospital doing rounds, or maybe at the office seeing patients. She was always working.
So, maybe it was unbearable for Harry to never get to see his girlfriend, but when he really thinks about it, her working overtime at the hospital was the reason he met her.
FLASHBACK:
Grueling headaches were an often occurrence for Harry, so it never really occurred that he would end up in the emergency room from utter exhaustion.
âGood evening, MrâŠâ She looks down to find out what Harryâs name is on his chart, âStyles, correct?â
He nods, furrowing his eyebrows and wincing as another sharp pain echoed through his head.
âOkay, well Iâm doctor Cooper. It says here that youâve been having ongoing headaches for a while, so what made you want to come in?â
âUmâŠâ He trailed off, scratching the back of his head, âI was at the studio, and I had been standing for a while and I sorta fainted.â
âHm,â Meredith looked down, expecting any other injuries, âso, Iâm guessing you cut your wrist on the way down?â There was a white bandage with blood showing through it wrapped tightly around his wrist.
âYup.â He laughed as she began to unwrap the bandage, âNot to sound rude or anything, but you look a little young to be a doctor.â
âUnless you are suggesting that I am incapable because of my age, which I donât think you are, then I take you saying I look young as a compliment.â
âOf course I meant it as a compliment.â Harry shakes his head with a small chuckle, making Meredith smile.
âOuch.â She winced along with Harry once the bandage was all the way off of his wrist before she set it on the medical tray next to her. âYeah, youâre definitely going to need stitches.â
Harryâs jaw dropped, âAre you being serious?â
âDo you really think I would joke about something like that? Câmon, Iâm not that cruel.â
She was being honest, and Harry liked that about her. She wasnât trying too hard to fit the entire doctor role that most of the arrogant doctors did.
She patted his shoulder as she stood up from the rolling stood she was sitting in, âIâm going to go grab a suture kit, Iâll be right back to fix you up.â
âI see youâre taking a liking to one of your patients over there.â Meredith jumped as she stood in the supply closet, turning to find Maggie, one of her friends (and colleagues) behind her.
âWhat?â She asked as she reached for the suture kit she had been looking for.
âYa know,â Maggie snatched the kit for Merâs grasp, ânurses are perfectly capable of a couple stitches, thatâs their job after all.â
She rolled her eyes, grabbing the plastic container with all the tools necessary inside of it back, âI had some free time, heâs a pretty interesting guy, actually.â
âGuy? Thatâs it?â Meredith sees her friend's jaw drop, âDo you not know who that man is?â
Her eyebrows furrowed in response, âWhat do you mean? Heâs a patient...â
âYouâre about to suture the wrist of like the most famous popstar ever, Meredith!â
She whipped her head back around, âWhat? Who? Wait, whatâs his name?â
Another one of the girls who works with the two of them walked up to where they were standing in the hall, appearing to have been eavesdropping. âDoes she seriously not know who Harry fucking Styles is?â
The name definitely rang a bell, and Meredith had definitely heard it before, but she just could remember exactly where.
âWhat is he? A singer?â She looked towards Maggie, making her groan.
âMer! You literally listen to his music!â Maggie smacked her friend in the back of the head, making her hiss from the sudden contact, âYou know that one song that you were obsessed with over the summer, golden?â
Meredith nodded before her jaw dropped, âOh my gosh! He wrote that song?â
Maggie copied her previous motion, nodding before turning her friend back towards where Harry sat, pushing her forwards. âGo get âem tiger!â
When Meredith walked back up to Harry, she stumbled a bit before setting all her supplies on the small, metal table that sat next to his bed. âSorry that took so long, you are apparently the talk of the town all over the hospital.â
âAh,â Harry only tucked his lips into his mouth, âreally thought I was off the hook when you pretended to not know who I was, ya really had me sold.â
âUmâŠâ the girl trailed off awkwardly, âI didnât know who you were.â
"Oh, Im sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you knew who I was.â He spoke, the shock in his voice was still quite apparent though. "I guess after a while of being recognized everywhere I go, I learned to act as if everyone knows who I am, and have the worst intentions. It's the best way for me to assure that my integrity is saved.â
Meredith nods, "I know I'm not famous or anything, but I somehow understand that.â
Harry's wrist was still obviously hurting, she could tell by the way he flinched every time she came close to touching.
"Okay, you may feel a small pinch when I insert the numbing agent, but after that, the stitches should be smooth sailing.â Meredith grabs his wrist, just above his injury, she had the syringe filled with lidocaine in her other hand, "ready?â
Harry nodded before she quickly inserted the syringe, beginning to numb the area. For a moment, it looked as if all of the color had completely drained from his face, his eyes falling closed.
"You doing alright?â Meredith light-heartedly asked, trying to ease the tension as she finished numbing Harry's wrist.
He looked quite dazed, as if he was in a trance, "I think I'm alright.â He sighed, leaning back in the chair, still having that void look in his eye.
Meredith stood up again, "Why don't I go get you a cool washcloth to put on your forehead while we wait for the numbing to fully kick in, you look a bit pale."
Harry smiled, "That would be great, thank you.â
When Meredith returned from the sink outside the procedure room, Harry was still slumped back in the large chair, his forehead glistening with sweat.
"Here ya go.â She smiled, placing the washcloth soaked with cold water on his forehead. He was surprised by the cool temperature at first, but he sighed in relief moments later.
"Okay, so I'm going to get started on the stitches now, if you're all settled.â
"Yeah, I'm okay, go ahead.â He held his injured wrist out to her.
It only took around thirty minutes for Meredith to finish the stitches, and once she was done she was already suggesting other treatments for Harry's headaches in question.
"I honestly think that you are getting these headaches from just pure exhaustion, the symptoms you are describing sound much like the type of migraines I had in med school, and with such a high stress level job, it would make sense why you wouldn't be getting enough sleep, correct?â
Harry bows his head, "It is true that I could probably use a little more sleep.â
Meredith begins to jot something down on the chart, "and some more water, since you also seem to be showing signs of moderate dehydration.â
"Whatever you say, doc.â
It was beginning to get harder and harder for Meredith to keep her level of professionalism, because all she could think to herself was is this super hot, famous, heartthrob flirting with me right now?
It was safe to say that she was beginning to understand why so many girls, including her own colleagues, found this man so enticing.
"Okay!" She quickly broke herself out of her daydream, "I think that's all I can really tell you, sleep more and drink some more water. But, if you start doing those things and you are still getting headaches, please don't hesitate to come back.â
"And as for the stitches?â He questioned, making her furrow her eyebrows.
šWhat do you mean?â She countered immediately feeling stupid when he responded.
"I mean, won't I have to come back to get them removed?"
"Oh! Yes, I would say fourteen days." Meredith was mentally face palming at this point as her embarrassment took over.
She wasnât even a huge fan of his, hell, she didnât even know who he was a hour ago, so the reason she was stuttering like a blubbering idiot was beyond her.
âCan I just come back here?â
âYup, Iâll be here.â She says with a bigger smile than she intended as she handed Harry the medical forms for him to fill out.
âThank you so much.â He said gratefully as she said her goodbyes before walking out of the room and into the hall, where Maggie, and many other nurses stood, seemingly waiting.
An array of questions began to be shouted from many different people, some including:
âHow was he?â
âDid you get his number?â
âIs he coming back?â
Meredith was appalled by the amount of shouting going on, when everyone was well aware that the man they were desperate to know about, was only behind the very thin, wooden door.
âAre you guys fucking insane? Patient confidentiality!â She defended, adjusting her white coat before beginning to make her way back towards the nurses station at the end of the hall.
******
Meredith wasnât expecting to ever see Harry again after he came in to get his stitches removed, which was a long, drawn out process because of Harryâs attempt to stall the doctor.
It wasnât that she didnât want to see him again either, she would have been perfectly happy to. He was charming, and didnât seem too arrogant, which was something she completely adored about him.
But it wasnât until about three weeks after he had gotten his stitches removed that she felt someone approaching her on the cereal island that she stood in Whole Foods.
âMeredith?â She turned around, being met with a surprised look at Harry. âSorry, can I call you that?â
She laughed at that, âI mean I wasnât expecting you to call me doctor when Iâm not even your doctor anymore. Can I call you Harry?â She countered his question.
He let out a sigh of relief, remembering how down to earth Meredith really was for being someone with such a high profession. âWell, Iâm not your patient anymore, now am I?â
She looked back at the shelves, picking up her choses box of cereal, throwing it into the basket that was hanging around her wrist.
âI guess you do know who I am, donât you?â
âI do now.â She responded, not really knowing what else to say.
Harry on the other hand, was debating whether or not it would be inappropriate to attempt to make a move on his doctor. Was she even technically his doctor anymore? He didnât know.
He was always very straight forwards through, which was something he prided himself in. âWould it be weird if I were to ask you out on a date?â
Meredith liked the game that they were continuing to play, the one where he would ask her a question, and she would counter back with almost the exact same one. âWould it be weird if I were to say yes?â
âI guess that answers both of our questions.â
It was safe to say both of them left the grocery store blushing and smiling like idiots.

Evil Unmasked Part 4 AU (aka Vader visits PadmĂ©âs tomb)
Darth Vader was, in a word, exhausted.
Truth be told, whatever slim patience he had had for the machinations of Palpatineâs propaganda machine and the role it had carved out for him was all but gone. He could no longer recall how many interviews he had been forced to play along with, how many holo captures he had had taken of his visage for Imperial distribution. He had figured Palpatine would use his compliance as a tool to promote the Empire as the righteous governmental installment, and himself as the rightful Emperor. Still, it was becoming both grating, and infuriating. Vader was relieved that the media circus had, for now, been foiled and was beginning to die down. He had lost count of how many times he had been pinned down to denounce the Jedi order and explain why he had turned against them, as well as why he had changed his name.
Eight months post the fall of the Republic, and the calamity of the aftermath had begun to settle into the new normalcy. Vader was no longer hounded by hoards of reporters, no longer approached solely to speak out for promotional purposes. This was his first break from the obligations of either hunting down and eliminating stray Jedi, or speaking out on Palpatineâs behalf to praise his leadership. As soon as the opportunity arose, he asked for (demanded) his first day off. Palpatine had given him a quizzical, mildly displeased look but allowed it with a disinterested hand wave. The location heâd chosen for his travel had been decided long in advance, constantly pushed to the back of his mind but never truly forgotten. Vader hadnât been anywhere near the sector for years; the planetâs sunny skies, vast green fields of grass and tranquil environment seemingly welcoming him with open arms. The nature and its beautiful trappings knew nothing of his past, nothing of the dark deeds he had committed - nor of the fact that he had stolen one of its most favourite daughters away.
Naboo was a beautiful place, with its lush scenery and its vast crystal clear lakes. Even with the sombre intentions behind Vaderâs visit in mind, he found it a refreshing and peaceful break from the insanity life had become. The serene, bedazzled home world of Emperor Palpatine was nothing short of a paradise. But it was also the home world of Vaderâs beloved, lost PadmĂ©.
That Palpatine could be the native son of such a stunning planet was irony in its highest form. PadmĂ© was much more suited for the inviting greenery, and the richly bedazzled background most citizens of Naboo had enjoyed. The gungans, shut out from society and equality before the Separatist attack, seemed so far removed from the background PadmĂ© and Palpatine were of. PadmĂ© had been born a Naberrie - that in itself a prestige; elected Queen at fourteen, and then continuing to become the senator and ambassador of her birth planet. The planetâs inhabitants had adored her. They adored her valor, her beauty, and her compassion. Her childhood made such a stark contrast to Vaderâs own. PadmĂ© had been raised in harmony; with her own autonomy, with responsibilities, yes - but with the power to make lasting changes. With her inherited money and her stunning appearance, her heritage and her wit - PadmĂ© had had all the trappings sufficient of making a just, good woman.
Vader had come from nothing, with no legacy, no father, and no autonomy. He had lived impoverished as a child slave barely scraping by, fearing either death by starvation or illness, or by extermination. Watto, as his master and owner, had threatened him into submission by reminding him of the chip in his neck; reminding him of that fact that would he revolt - both he and his mother were doomed. PadmĂ© never had to fear for her parentsâ, or her sisterâs lives. Not even when she was with child, was the terror of her dying in childbirth that occupied Vaderâs mind every hour of every day, of any concern to her. She did not fear death, but then she had never been faced death as Vader had. Perhaps, if she too had been raised on a desert planet, no more than an item to be exploited, with only her mother as a guide and confidant would she have understood his plight. Maybe if she, too, had lost her parents and failed in her valiant effort to save them, would she have understood his fear of watching her fade away. In the end, as yet another cruel twist of fate; Vader himself had brought about her demise. In the end, all he had was himself - and perhaps, that was for the better.
The tomb of senator PadmĂ© Amidala was a vast monument in and of itself, but at the same time surprisingly sparse on decor. PadmĂ© had never been a woman of simplicity when it came to appearance or presentation, but her final resting place was almost humble. Solid stone encased her now, protecting her withering bones from the harsh light of day. Now, as night reigned supreme and the stars peppering the skies provided the only light; Vader thought it a bleak and gloomy sight. He would have envisioned something more grandiose. The style was simple; cream coloured alabaster pillars supported a raised, arched roof. Vader traversed down a winding path or marble stairs, resolute in his resolve despite the unwanted guilt that was constantly nagging at the back of his mind and wearing him down. It made his skin crawl, and he stopped when he came face to face with the single ornament guarding his wifeâs grave. Beneath the arched ceiling, a monument had been erected in her honour. Large, lifelike and meticulously detailed; it too was cut from sandstone and alabaster. It was a magnificent statue, portraying PadmĂ© as she had appeared in life during her years as Queen and regent of Naboo. Its face seemed to peer down at Vader, as if to condemn him for trespassing. As if to demean him for daring to disturb her eternal peace.
Ignoring the judgmental stare he could not shake, Vader hurriedly brushed past the statue. With one wave of his hand, he let the Force gently guide the heavy stone door blocking the entrance to the mausoleum portion of the monument aside. Inky darkness pooled inside the small crypt, the starlight barely spilling past the threshold. A cold breeze seemed to emerge from within, both as a plea asking him to leave; and a lull, begging him to enter. Vader shut his eyes for a moment, allowing bith the crisp chill of the night and the stuffy air from within the tomb to wash over him. The breeze ran through his hair, and for a second, he recalled the gentle touch of his wifeâs slender fingers combing through the unruly curls. He remembered her soft skin, her plush lips. Opening his eyes, he knew what he must do. He held no fear of the dead, and he was convinced that PadmĂ©âs ghost would not be enraged by his visit.
But neither would she be pleased. Vader imagined she may weep if she could see him now.
Not surprisingly, Vader had found himself unable to attend PadmĂ©'s funeral wake. He had watched the holo screen broadcast of the procession in real time, as it was distributed to the public grieving an icon lost. The ceremony itself had been lavish; Queen Apailana dressed in the regal mourning attire. Emperor Palpatine had made it more than clear that there was no way for Vader to be present without drawing unwanted attention by his pre-Empire affiliation with PadmĂ© as - what the public thought to be - a very close friend. Indeed, his absence may have been even odder but in hindsight Vader couldnât have changed his lot had he tried to. And he had tried, to no avail. At the same time, it hadnât stung as much to give into his master's wishes - knowing it was his fault PadmĂ© would breathe no more. He had killed her. Part of him thought then, as did he now, that he hadnât deserved showing his face in such a sacred rite. She was so far above him, and he was so far beneath her.
She was an Angel, and he was her murderer.
Entering the crypt with trepidation and reverence, Vader paused in the doorway. He had to duck to fit through the narrow entrance; the additional height of his new cybernetic legs was still cumbersome, and he hadnât quite gotten used to the equally freshly fashioned prosthetic arms either with their larger hands and longer forearms. It was just a matter of time, really, but Vader felt it to be an unwelcome hindrance. He had been promised unlimited power by his master, instead he had been maimed and left for dead by Kenobi - and he alone bore the blame for PadmĂ©âs demise. PadmĂ©, whose remains were just within his reach. PadmĂ©, whose spirit must surely despise him now. As he traversed with a solemn unease farther into the cavern; Vader became aware of two things.
First was the stone coffin holding his belovedâs lifeless body. Its lid was adorned by yet another skilfully crafted sculpture; this time a likeness of PadmĂ©âs visage as she had been presented during her funeral wake. Her hair had been loose and wavy as she was paraded through the streets, decorated only with tiny, brittle flowers. Clad in a flowing blue gown, hands clasped over her swollen belly; face so lifelike she had seemed to be merely asleep. As Vader had made himself watch the painful holoscreening - witnessing his beloved one last time from afar - he had entertained the notion that if heâd only been present, he could have kissed her cold lips and she would have woken up. So many fairytales spoke of true loveâs kiss, and of it raising a seemingly dead lover from their eternal slumber. Vaderâs last kiss shared with his wife had proved to be the kiss of death. This blatant mimicry of PadmĂ©âs visage - a far cry of her beauty - had been expected.
What Vader had not expected was the glass showcase propped by the coffin's side. Upon an indigo satin pillow rested PadmĂ©âs japor snippet. Slightly faded with wear and tear, wooden and as intricately hand carved as the day he had given it to her. It had been granted its own separate display, and Vader scoffed at the notion that any of PadmĂ©âs many handmaidens or realtives would have understood but a sliver of its importance to her - and, subsequently, to him. Still, it had been singled out as a token, and it had been clear even to those not in the know that the simple jewelry had been cherished by its owner.
Swallowing hard, Vader slowly approached the small cased necklace. Even in the dull darkness, his iridescent golden eyes helped him focus on the tiny trinket. A mixture of shame and bitterness welled up inside as his gaze took in every painstakingly crafted detail, and for just a moment - his serious expression softened. Gone were the harsh lines, gone was the composed and well rehearsed authority he had adapted since his shift. For that brief moment, Vaderâs chest felt tight and a strangled, choked breath escaped his parted lips.
Anger was quick to overthrow the suffocating sadness. Pursing his lips, Vader forced himself to turn away. Instead, his eyes fell again upon PadmĂ©âs stone grave. He didnât deserve to be here, he didnât deserve this attempt at paying her respect with meaningless, silent apologies. He had put her in that coffin, he had snuffed out her light. As if moving of their own volition, he found his legs were carrying him closer to the cold marble against his will. One gloved hand reached out to hesitantly touch the surface, but all Vader's cybernetic fingertips could detect was hard edges. Nothing concrete, no nuance. Vader was bereft of something as simple as the smooth, cool kiss of masterly crafted sandstone. The soft curves and gentle lines came off as no more intricate than the billions of grains that made up the sands of Tatooine.
Clenching his jaw shut, Vader's hand curled into a tight fist. It shook as he squeezed it shut; PadmĂ©âs desperate, pleading hazel eyes flashing before his inner vision. Sheâd been so frail, so distraught, so horrified. She had never betrayed him, he had betrayed her. This was all his fault.
Padmé was dead because of him. Only him.
Squeezing his eyes shut, Vader wished for nothing but to be offered the chance to retrace his step and right his wrongs. He wished to relive the moment in which he had lashed out, if only to forgive her and believe her words. If only to take her in his arms, to heed her warnings and run far away. Just him, her, and their child. Together. The child that had perished alongside his mother, never allowed to get to know her tender soul.
An unyielding, intense burn spread like a wildfire up the bridge of Vader's nose, and bled into his cheeks. A stinging prickle settled behind his eyes, and despite his stubborn attempt at remaining calm and detached, dismissing his pain - scalding tears welled up to pool at the corners of his eyes. In one fell swoop, they disregarded his wishes and rolled in heavy globs down his pale cheeks. Vader allowed his anger and his despair to mingle with his guilt. In an act of rare surrender, he let his walls crumble to dust and acknowledged that he had made a terrible mistake. He had allowed Palpatine to twist his mind, to entice him with empty promises. But it was he who had believed those lies; he had been the one to choke his own wife in blind rage.
Covering his face with his free hand, Vader did his best to restrain his grief in a feeble attempt at maintaining dignity. Biting back sobs, he wept silently - shedding the final pieces of his past with each tear. A burden that was his alone to carry, but its weight slightly lighter to bear despite the dull ache it left behind.
When he eventually vacated the tomb; daylight had begun to spill over the fields and hills, its orange glow warming the dew lining every straw of grass and creating a thin veil of mist. The air was sweet, its scent a jumble of flowers. No trace of his secret visit did Vader leave behind, but something inside of him had changed irreparably. Something had been left behind, laid to rest alongside the lost Queen.
If he could destroy the one thing he had loved more than life itself, what mattered any other life on his conscience. If his Angel was dead, Vader was already cursed. Whoever stood in his way was but a stepping stone on his way towarda greatness.
Every citizen in the Galaxy was but an animal - and he would slaughter them as animals, if need be.
*****
I wanted to write something sad, and I figured since this iteration of Vader is quite different to the canon one - this would be yet another way for him to shed his past, and to become even more of a propaganda and political tool. Also, I felt like writing something sad and angsty and I seldom write about Padmé, so consider this a little treat for those of you who - much like I - enjoy sadness and pain.

57. Brown iodine stains on skin
Heâd stopped counting. Heâd stopped counting the days and the months and the years it had been since he was forced under Imperial rule. After so long, so many people lost; others who still had the will to escape, to run, begging him to go with them? How could he keep track anymore? He didnât belong out in the world. He didnât belong anywhere. This was all he knew, now. So this was all he would be. A dog of the Empire and nothing more, losing all sense of self. A husk of the man he could claim to be. Empty.
Silent.
He stopped talking. Once Kodran was gone. Or the Miqoâte whose favour he would slip in and out of on a weekly basis, she left. Or died. He couldnât remember anymore. He moved from one Squad to another when they finally ran out of people, he remained just another soldier who could never die. Never did he think he would lose this sense of self. The man who used to prowl the mountains and strike fear deep into the hearts of anyone who dared to tread near. The man who had purpose and duty, and he lived by the Word. He lived by his fathers word. He lived. He may have been alone, but he lived.
Now he was surrounded, on all accounts. There were always people, always soldiers, always plots for the next plan. But all he could do was sink into himself, sink into the silence, and try to forget. Which was easier said than done, given the plague of the Empire he was faced with on a daily basis. The constant and cruel reminders of this life he would now live.
The moon had fallen; a failure. The dragon within rendered into the earth and only the decimation of the blood red Dalamud remained etched upon the land. So many soldiers lost that day. And still - still they tried to sweep Eorzea off the map and make it into their own. Still they tried to belittle and destroy their proclaimed enemies with every command of the Emperor which just seemed to get more mindless, petty and insane as the years went by. Still they tried the most outlandish and bizarre methods in order to win. To win over a world that would come to loathe them, no matter what âsecurityâ they may offer in turn.
Weapons research. Thatâs what they always called it. Weapons research. Behind closed doors, whispers and rumours. The truth was hidden and veiled; but it was never just about weapons, was it? Or it was. They just loosely overhead weapons meaning both magitek and people. They took soldiers who were hurt or who were so desperate to do more, and tried to make them into more. A process called Hypertuning that they were still trying to perfect, along with a handful of other projects that would provide further insight into why Eorzeans could manipulate aether, and why pure blooded Garleans could not.
He could hear their screams. Even though they were buried so far beneath the earth in rooms not even many of the higher-ups knew about; strapped to tables and altered. Of course he never thought something like this would happen to him; he had been here for so long now, so long and so⊠compliant⊠that he got overlooked most days. Ignored. Pretended he didnât exist, perhaps.
Until they had to drag his body from a battlefield. Because each fight he grew more reckless, he would take on too many, barrel into the front lines with the desperate hope that maybe one day someone could just kill him, and he would be done with it. He thought on that day, as he hit the ground with a stray arrow a little too close to his heart. That would be it. He would finally die, and be done with this aching misery.
How foolish he had been in such hopes. As he woke, a blurred gaze in an unfamiliar room, different to the medical wards. Cold and bright white lights. Eyes strained against them, trying to push himself up, body weak and searing with pain. But he couldnât get up, no. A low feral snarl rumbled through his chest that caused him to stutter and growl from the pain the vibrations caused in his chest. Panic started to seep in. His heartbeat was erratic, loud in his ears, blood pumping through his body but it all felt different, like it wasnât his. Or like something was *missing* and he couldnât put his finger on why.
Heâd always had that voice in the back of his mind, the slither of darkness that allowed him to simply let himself lose. To go wild, to go feral, and to give his all when it came to it. This voice was both a comfort and a menace, most days. A shadow in the corner of his eye, a vision of himself, sometimes his father. Lately it had been Kodran, but he tried not to question the guilt that pressed with it. But that voice now was different, it hissed. It was loud in his head as it demanded food. It was hungry, so very very hungry. It wanted him to break out of these binds around his arms and legs and consume.
He was still too tired, however. Too weak. His ears shifted around and found⊠silence. True silence. Only the noises of his body could be heard - the rest of the world blocked out. No one could hear him, either. Ears moved, eyes opened in full. The blur ceased as he managed to assess where he was, what he was strapped into, and why his chest hurt so much.
His chest was wound in bandages, thick and dotted with blood and black ooze. It smelled foul. His legs and arms no better, bandaged and tied up. His chest would rise and fall in heavy breathes, that panic not ceasing, never leaving. Brown stains upon his skin seeped out from beneath the bandages and his mind raced with a deep and twisting anxiety over what had been done. What had they done to him?
Heâd find out, eventually.
Thank you for this prompt @rokachan! <3 I had this idea ever since you sent it but I only just managed to get it out into words. It was a good one, thank you!!

Bring Him Light - xiv (King!Steve Rogers x Reader)
Chapter Summary: When one threat is resolved, another makes presents itself.Â
Warnings: character deaths, reference to sexual assault, ptsd, implied smut, shitty writing but weâre not gonna mention it ok, time jump!
Word Count: 2.7k
<- Last Part -=+=- Next Part ->
Confused, angry, annoyed murmurs filled the courtyard as people were ushered outside by the kingsguard. The summer sun had already risen and beat down unforgivingly on the crowd that began to form. An eerie feeling clung to the air â similar to the early morning sunrise when Sister Mary was beheaded. The people had not forgotten about the large army that gathered outside their castle gates this morning. They wondered in fear â had their king been overthrown? Or perhaps⊠the king was prepared to be a widow once more?
To their relief, King Steven stood at the platform. He was rather calm with his brows furrowed, lost in his thoughts. To their surprise, you werenât dressed in the traditional execution black, nor were you cowering in the crowd in fear of your husband. Instead, their queen stood tall with her husbandâs hand clasped in hers and a crown on her head, reminding them of who you were â reminding you of who you were: an angry queen seeking revenge.
The stoic expression on your face unsettled them. The last time you made a public appearance as queen was when you were struck by your husband. After then, the only time you had been relevant was when guards were storming the castle early in the morning in search of their runaway queen. Though they knew you were back and rested, they had expected your duties to be minimal â that you were to be hidden away, locked in the castle as a crowned prisoner.
They were wrong.
Behind you, stood your father, the invader from this morning. Though he did not seem to pose a threat to you or the king, his army was still sprawled out around the courtyard. Any attempt would be thwarted with ease with both Brooken and York standing together like this.
âBring them forth,â Steven called out. The crescendo of the peopleâs chatter became louder and louder as the two criminals were finally revealed.
Brock Rumlow and Alexander Pierce trudged through the crowd, being led by guards. Shock was expressed on many nobleâs faces. Confused muttering shook the crowd as they stared on at the two men who wore black.
âWhat is he doing?â âHas he finally lost his mind?â âThatâs his cousin!â âThatâs his fatherâs sisterâs boy!â âPierce has been an ally to the crown for decades!â âItâs the queenâs doing!â âSheâs manipulating him.â âSheâs made him a monster.â âNo⊠Heâs already been one for years.â âThatâs his cousin, his fatherâs sisterâs son!â âHe wouldnât dare.â âHeâs a monster.â
The whispers didnât stop. It felt as if the people were turning their back on Steven, losing hope, respect, and trust. He had yet to say a word that was heard by the crowd. Their mutterings became louder and louder, drowning him out, calling him a monster, saying he shouldnât wear the crown. They called him mad and cruel, saying he lashed out â disguising his insanity and using treason as an excuse to blindly kill.
It wouldnât stop. The vile accusations against him were deafening. You stared at the crowd, listening to every word spat out. It sounded like a long continuous scream.
The wails bringing you back to the violent sways of the boat. The nausea induced by the mercenaryâs poor command of the boat. Seeing the man on top of Wanda. Hearing her screams of pain and pleads for help. The sticky blood on your hands as you stabbed him. You remembered the sharp shove he gave to your stomach â to your child. The ripping of your dress as he spat, âI shouldâve raped you firstâ with his hands wrapped around your throat. The metallic taste of blood after Wanda slit the manâs throat open. You remembered her falling to the ground and the haunting lifeless look on her face. The terrible cramping pain in your stomach and the discomfort in your back. You remember the blood pooling underneath you as you lost your child.
Everything hitting you all at once. The anger. The hurt. The betrayal. The loss. It all spiraled together, morphing into one hideous feeling that you couldnât describe. It bubbled in your throat, demanding to be let out.
âSILENCE!â You didnât even recognize your own voice that bounced throughout the kingdom. It was so loud that you were sure your mother couldâve heard it in York. Maybe the true Mad King heard it from wherever he was.
The entire crowd fell into silence, surprised at your outburst. Steven looked over to you. His own frustration and anger melted into pure concern as he watched your shoulders rise and fall with every breath you took. He called your name but you didnât hear it, basking in the silence as you wordlessly commanded the respect and attention of everyone in attendance.
Steven couldnât help but smirk proudly at his queen as you stepped forward from your position, glaring at the crowd.
âYou want to call your king a monster?â You asked them. âYou have no idea what he has done to protect this kingdom⊠He has done nothing but protect each and every one of you. Whether the threat be my own father or foreign invaders,â you glared at the two bound men in black, âor lords who plot and conspire for his demise. Heâs on the frontline of every battle when he could simply cower in the castle along with the rest of you. And you want to call him the monster?â
You gestured to the chained men. âBrock Rumlow and Alexander Pierce are the true monsters. Theyâre the shadows that lurk in the dark. Their the ghosts that haunt the castle. They prey on your fears, they isolate you, they manipulate you.â
You walked to the de-tongued Pierce, a shell of the noble he once was â thanks to your father. âAlexander Pierce brought King Steven two wives. Both from the same house. Both who have died. Everyoneâs quick to tell the story that the king murdered his wives. They refused to give him an heir, so he ridded himself of their incompetency, right? I believed that story, too. But no one tells the truth of how Pierce deliberately chose wives of a house who swore allegiance to King Thanos.
âBrock Rumlow manipulated his way into my circle. He fed me lies of how Steven murdered his wives, confirmed untrue rumors â all to turn me against my own husband.â You looked over to Steven, who had a proud look on his face as he watched his wife take control of the situation. âI shouldâve believed you, my love. For that, I am truly sorry.â
âThese two men orchestrated to have me and my ladies murdered. They posted as people I could trust, promised me protection from a man they said was a threat. They arranged for my friends and I to be murdered on a boat. They hired a mercenary who rap â âyou stopped yourself. The word had a foul taste that you could not stomach. âThey hired a mercenary who murdered Lady Wanda Maximoff before my eyes. Theyâre responsible for the death of my child, the heir to Brooken.â
That fact alone stunned many. They were all quick to resent their queen because you had spent months childless⊠Little did they know they lost their heir they were so desperate to have.
âTheyâre monsters and if you cannot see that for yourselves, then you, too, will be on this platform next. Call me a killer. Call me ruthless. Call me the monster. Iâll accept it all. Iâve lost a friend and Iâve lost a child. And if their executions and your spiteful rumors are what I must pay for a moment of vengeance, then so be it.â
The crowd remained silent as they took in every word. They may never know what fact is and what is fiction, but everyone can agree that the hurt and the pain in your voice was completely genuine. No one could feign that type of grief.
Steven took a step forward, grabbing your hand and rubbing soothing circles onto the back of it. He brought it to his lips and pressed a kiss to your knuckles before turning towards the two men.
âWe neednât relive the torment youâve brought upon my wife. You both are guilty of treason, and everyone knows it,â Steven told them, directly. âI, King Steven Rogers of Brooken, with the witnesses of my wife, Queen (Y/N) Rogers and King Anthony Stark of York, sentence you to death for your treason.â
Brock had called your name. He begged for his life. He begged for mercy. He stared into your eyes, pleading for a shred of empathy or compassion. He knew you had it in you â he saw it when you defended your friends fiercely, when you tried to stop your husband from executing the old crone. But he was met with angry, cold eyes as he heard his cousin call for his sword.
Pierce was the first to go. He was brought to the executionerâs block with no hassle â he did not fight. He knew when he had lost and he would lose with any dignity he had left. Stevenâs blow was quick and neat. The head fell into the basket with a soft thud as the body was removed from the block.
Rumlow thrashed in the guardsâ arms. He begged and he called for your name. He sputtered out apologizes for his crimes in hopes for any ounce of mercy that could be thrown his way.
âStop.â You said before your husband could lift his sword. âGet him on his feet.â
â(Y/N).â Steven warned, but you repeated your order. The king sent you a weary look before gesturing for the guards to lift his cousin.
Steven watched as you marched over and gave Brock a kind smile. Relief flooded through Rumlow as you fixed the black collar of his shirt.
âYou donât deserve a fast death.â You told him. Though your voice was soft, it was heard throughout the eerily silent courtyard.
Before he could process your words, you gave a swift, deep cut to his throat with a dagger no one knew you were hiding. After the attempt on your life, you always ensured that you had some form of a weapon on your person.
He choked on his own blood as the crimson spurted out from the deep gash. You watched with little remorse as he fell to the ground, clawing at his neck. You didnât shift your eyes away as you did when Sister Mary was beheaded. No. You wanted to see your enemies fall.
Once he laid lifeless on the platform, you turned and made your way off the platform and back into the castle.
»»ââââ-ăâăââââ-««
Your farewells with your father were bittersweet and fast. You wished him safe travels as you gave him a sword â specially made for your little brotherâs name day. You noticed the saddened look on your fatherâs face upon hearing Harveyâs name, but you decided not to press him about it.
You watched from the balcony as he and his army disappeared into the horizon. Your hands were still shaking â something you hadnât thought would happen once you took Brockâs life. Though you have bathed â and re-bathed â immediately after the executions, your hands still felt sticky even if you only had a few splatters of blood on them.
You were too lost in your thoughts that you didnât hear Steven slowly walk over to your position. You jumped when his arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you into him as he pressed a kiss onto the crown of your head. âAre you alright?â He asked you. He noticed how you were still trembling.
âI killed him.â You said. âI looked him in his eyes and took his life.â
âIf you werenât shaking, I would ask myself if I had married a coldblooded killer.â He joked lightly, but you scoffed at him. He kissed your temple. âBut I know you are not a murderer.â
âAs I know you are not a monster.â You whispered. âI couldnât stand there and listen to them whispering anymore,â you shook your head. âI do apologize for thinking such things.â
âYou had reason to believe it. I do not blame you.â
âYou should be angry.â
âI am not.â Steven assured. âI love you.â
âAs I love you.â You responded, leaning into him. âIs it over? Is this unrest finally over?â
âIt never is.â Steven sighed. âBut now, everyone knows⊠They canât turn us against each other. We stand together. King and Queen. We are a force to be reckoned with. We are taking strides to a brighter Brooken. Together.â
You smiled at the thought. You basked in Stevenâs arms. The security the bring. The feeling of home.
You turned to face him and pulled him down for a kiss. Sweet and passionate. Lips melting together as if they had always belonged there. You pushed Steven backwards towards the room. He broke the kiss as he watched you close the balcony doors. You smiled at him before you cupped his jaw with your hands to reconnect the kiss.
You kept pushing and pushing until the back of Stevenâs knees hit the back of the bed. He pulled away from you, combing the loose strands away from your face before placing a chaste kiss to your lips. âWe neednât do this if you arenât ready.â He told you. He was afraid that his desire for you would overwhelm you. Though some time had passed since the incident, he did not want to make you feel pressured in any way.
You shook your head. You tried to bring his lips back to yours, but he thwarted your attempt. âStevenâŠâ You whined.
He chuckled, cupping your face with his large hands. âYou neednât give me an heir⊠Not yet. Not if youâre not ready.â
âStevenâŠâ you frowned. âI want this. I want you.â
He shook his head. âWe donât need an heir⊠Not yet. I am happy with just you.â
You groaned at him. âIf we have a child this night or the next, it makes little difference to me. Iâm not trying to have an heir. I want to make love to you because I love you.â
He smiled. That warm smile that sent butterflies to your stomach. He kissed your lips once. Twice. And a third kiss one from an eager husband ready to make love to his wife.Â
»»ââââ-ăâăââââ-««
Six Months LaterâŠ
You let out an erotic moan, one that quite possibly awoke the entire castle. Not that you nor your husband minded as your hips rutted against his as you both came down from your highs. Exhausted, you slumped down to his chest and allowed his arms to wrap around you. He pressed a kiss to your glistening forehead as you both tried to catch your breaths.
âI love you.â You whispered.
âI love you, too.â
Three sharp knocks were stamped into the wood of your bedchamberâs doors. You and Steven frowned at one another. It was late at night, who could it be?
You quickly got off your husband and wrapped yourself in a robe as he did the same. He walked over to the door to find Lord Barnes, who was supposed to be vacationing in his chateau with his new wife, Lady Natasha. âWhatâs wrong, James?â Steven asked the obviously exhausted lord.
âYour majestiesâŠâ He said, winded. âThereâs an emergency. Please. Come to the throne room now.â Steven asked for privacy so that you both may properly dress.
Your bare feet padded against the tiles as you hurried walked hand in hand with Steven. âWhatâs happened?â You asked Lord Barnes as he rounded the corner towards the throne room. When he didnât answer, you asked again. He pushed the doors open and you gasped. âMother?â
âOh, my sweet child,â your mother sighed out in relief. She held baby Morgan in her hands, the infant had grown in your time away. You rushed to her side and gave her a hug, cooing at your baby sister who babbled happily as she recognized your voice.
âWhatâs the meaning of this?â Your husband asked.
âAlways great to see you, Steve.â Your mother smiled.
âPepper,â he greeted, giving her a kiss on the cheek. âAs much as I find your company a delight, itâs in the middle of the night⊠Itâs winter. Travel is rather troublesome in the north, even for a three-day journey.â
âWhereâs father?â You asked. âAnd Harvey?â
Your mother sighed sadly. Your face dropping. You looked to Natasha who stood with her husband and the guards you recognized belonged to your fatherâs kingsguard. âWhatâs happened?â You asked.
âYorkâs been invaded by Thanos.â

Hey! I always loved your writing and you actually inspired me to write some myself so I want to request if itâs alrightâŠ
Can I have Hanako x f!reader who doesnât believe in love (this having to due with her parents never getting along). She says that itâs just a little word people say to make them feel better about themselves and itâs a waste of time.
But she canât help but fall in love with Hanako and gets on flustered when heâs around but tries to tell herself itâs not love. Oneshot please!
Thank you and feel free to ignore if you want!

Love was ridiculous. It was a stupid idea. An overused word, thrown onto any situation in which you felt something other than anger, fear, sadness, or disgust. If something made you even a little happy, youâd claim to love it. If someone showed you basic human decency, youâd claim to love them.
You hated it. It made you feel sick.
Itâs not like you could control what everyone else did, you supposed. So, youâd continue on normally. If you didnât fall in love, then there was no worry about falling out of it- thatâs what you figured. Thatâs what you told yourself. Love wasnât real in the first place- how could such an overused word hold any true meaning? It was like a 1st grade pinky promise. It was easily broken, as if it held any truth to it when the kids exchanged a deal. No matter how much either part of it trusted the promise, it made it no more real or true.
Yep⊠love was best put as a 1st grade pinky promise.
Maybe not-
Still, such a strong opinion on love, an unmoving opinion, with your own âproofâ to back it up⊠made it hard when you thought that it may be put to question. You walked near the bathroom, the girlsâ bathroom, and heard a girl from your class shout something. You couldnât tell what, but you did notice her slightly annoyed expression as she left the bathroom.
Ah, the girl who seemed to be constantly head-over-heels for boys- particularly Minamoto-senpai, you had noted. It wasnât like heâd return the feelings, you figured. Itâs not like her âloveâ was anything more than an obsession.
Still, you figured there must have been some other girl in the bathroom. Yashiro probably had friends- she talked to Aoi a lot. Maybe the schoolâs princess was teasing her friend. You pushed open the door, noticing that all the stalls were empty. The only other entity in the bathroom was⊠a floating, slightly-transparent boy. He was laughing, and you went ahead and assumed it was at Yashiroâs annoyance.
You sighed, running a hand through your hair. Honestly, you just needed to pee, but it shouldnât have surprised you. Little mokke running around the school constantly, weird things happening, a boy in the girlsâ bathroom wasnât life-changing. Or so you figured.
You grumbled, making some comment you werenât even sure you got, as you stepped into a stall. Not acknowledging him would surely be best. You were fairly new to the school, and it wasnât like you were insanely fond of public restrooms anyway. Youâd never have to see him again. Plus, if he was anything like the other supernaturals, you were sure heâd be a handful. That was your thought process, as you washed your hands, glimpsing up at the mirror hung above the sink- you caught another glimpse at him.
An old uniform. Brown, almost shaggy, hair. His eyes were amber, and rather large- the way he held his hands, you silently compared him to a puppy. Innocent face, playful eyes- almost too alive for a ghost. He turned his head, nearly making eye contact, but you continued to study his appearance. A white⊠bandage? Sticker? Something- stuck to his face, the kanji for âsealâ written in red.
Weird.
âMy, you look as if youâve seen a ghost,â He spoke, bringing a hand to his mouth, as a mischievous smirk came to his face.
A pain in the neck.
Your eyebrows furrowed, as you looked back down, turning off the sink and drying your hands.
âOh? Gonna pretend you didnât see me? How cruel,â
Still, you ignored him. He couldnât be serious. How was he so sure you didnât simply think you caught something out of the corner of your eye? Was he messing with you, or trying to lighten the mood?
âI donât think I want to associate with a pervy ghost,â You said, shutting the door behind you. As if right on time, the bell rang, signaling that lunch was over. With that, you made your way to class, hoping to not have to deal with any more paranormal things.
âŠ
Unfortunately, things donât always go as planned. As the rest of the day took itâs sweet time to pass, you sat, spacing out as you thought about that boy. He was one of the first humanoid supernaturals you had seen at the school- honestly, you half-hoped that all of them were cute little bunnies. Not⊠strangely eye-catching boys⊠how weird.
You sighed, clicking your pen, letting the quiet sound drown the teacherâs ramblings out a bit. Ca-click, click-click, ca-click, click-click.
âYâknow, people find that little sound annoying sometimes. It never bothered me, but teachers seem to be so sensitive about it.â
Jumping, you turned your head a bit, only to be practically nose-to-nose with the boy from the bathroom. Your heartbeat increased from the surprise, but you placed your hand on your chin, pretending to not have seen anything. Not only did you not want to give him much of your time or energy, but you definitely didnât want to attract negative attention from the normal kids around you. Your eyes scanned the room, and you noticed Yashiro looking in your direction, most likely at the boy. Yes, she definitely saw him too.
âWaaah, Yashirooooo, the new girlâs totally ignoring me!â He sighed, floating over to her. She looked away as well, focusing intensely on whatever the teacher had to say. You werenât even sure by this point, watching the two out of the corner of your eye. You stopped clicking your pen, watching as he stood behind Yashiro, leaning against her as he peered at her notes.
He glanced at you again, and you looked away. The boy, who you were now curious as to what his name could be, floated back over to your desk, glancing at your notes.
âYou really arenât paying attention, huh! Yashiroâs not much better- her page is mainly doodles. How on earth do you plan to pass like this, haha?â
You glared at him slightly, before lifting your pen, and clicking it open. Annoyed, you flipped to another page, and scribbled something down. He leaned forward a bit, looking at whatever it is you wrote.
âLeave me alone, toilet boy.â
He laughed, patting your back. âToilet boy? Whatâs with all the insults, I barely know youuuuuu- plus, I have a name. Iâm Hanako. School Mystery Number 7, Hanako-san of the toilet! Not âtoilet boyâ, nor a pervy ghost.â
You raised your eyebrows, writing once more.
âWonderful. Now leave me alone, âHanako-san of the toiletâ.â
Days passed, and he certainly didnât leave you alone. In fact, you grew to find yourself spending more time than you expected to with him. You assisted with supernaturals from time to time, even meeting his two other friends properly- Kou Minamoto and Yashiro Nene. You all slowly, but surely, became friends.
âIâm done wiping the mirrors,â You said, tossing the dirty rag into the bucket.
âIâm done mopping!â Yashiro exclaimed, sighing as she leaned against the mop.
âIâve finished dusting too,â Kou added.
Hanako nodded, clapping cheerfully. âGreat job, everyone! Canât wait to see the same enthusiasm tomorrow!!â
The three of you collectively groaned, rolling your eyes. âYes, yes, just like that,â Hanako laughed, moving his legs to sit in the air in a criss-cross fashion. Light conversation picked up, Kou talking to Yashiro, and Hanako throwing in a comment every so often. You stood, leaning against the sink, watching your friends look so happy. Hanako glanced at you, closing his eyes as he grinned.
Your heart rate picked up, and you felt your face grow warm. Your eyebrows furrowed just slightly, as you glanced away. It wasnât the first time a little action like that made your heart go haywire. Not just your heart- your stomach, your legs, your arms. The moment Hanako grinned at you, hugged you, or emptily flirted, you felt as though you lost the ability to function. It couldnât be love⊠no, you didnât want to fall in love.
âRight, but it's getting late, guys. I should really head home,â Yashiro spoke, putting the mop up as she did so. Kou nodded, glancing over at the clock. âIâve got to get home and work on dinner,â He said, putting the duster away, and grabbing his things.
Hanako glanced at you.
âI donât really have any plans. I finished homework in class, so I think Iâll linger around for a bit more.â
âAlright! Be safe when you head home, (Y/N)! Iâll see you guys tomorrow,â Yashiro spoke, waving as she left the room. âBye guys! Be safe!â Kou added, leaving not long after she did. Silence filled the room for a moment, the only thing breaking it being the sound of your shoes as you made your way to the window seal. Taking a seat, you looked at Hanako expectantly.
âWell? Any more stories of the things I missed out on?â
...
âThe Confession Tree?â You questioned, the other two humans long gone by now, leaving Hanako to recount to you previous adventures they had gone on.
âYep! Yashiro and I took care of that one- it was honestly easier than most of them were. Heâs still around, just nothing bigger than one of those pre-cut broccolis. The rumor was, youâd confess under him, and heâd make the feelings mutual~, buuut, it obviously got way out of control.â
âThatâs so stupid.â
Hanako raised his eyebrows, not expecting such a distasteful tone of voice. âWhat is?â
âA supernatural forcing some kids to âfall in loveâ,â You made air quotes, before continuing, âitâs pretty gross. Loveâs nothing more than some overused word. Itâs tagged onto everything, and itâs basically used to make you feel better. Itâs all a waste.â
For once, he was silent. Several questions began to circulate in his mind, but a part of him was⊠somewhat hurt.
âBut what if I love you?â He questioned, tilting his head. His face felt warm, but he tried to steady his heartbeat. It wasnât a direct confession. No, just a question. A âwhat if.â
You blinked, your face feeling warm. You understood- of course, it was nothing more than a âwhat if.â âIt wouldnât be love. Youâd be interested in me, only for the interest to go away eventually- even if it took a week. Even if it took years. Just⊠trust me, Hanako. Iâm not the smartest person in the world, but- once you see it happen to the two people who are supposed to be there for you forever, you get the memo. It isnât love. Never was, never will be.â
Those words you spoke⊠you didnât like the fact that you questioned their sincerity. Especially when you were blushing, the boy who made you question those words looking at you with his big, rather beautiful eyes. âOr⊠thatâs⊠what I think,â You added, the heat rising to your face only making you feel worse, as he blinked. His undivided attention on you- on what you said- made your heart beat much faster than you wished it would.
And suddenly, he was closer. Too close. Way too close. His eyes began to shut, as his face drew closer to yours. Your heart began to beat quicker than it had before- your face grew hotter than it already was- your eyes widened, as you silently questioned what on earth he was going.
One of his hands grabbed your wrist, and you looked over at your arm he was holding, then back up at him. His face was still close, so close you were sure youâd smell him if he still had a scent. So close he could probably feel the heat radiating off of your face, if he could still distinguish hot from cold.
âThen why is your heart beating so fast?â He finally questioned, thumb pressed against your radial artery, as if the warmth of your face wasnât enough of a sign.
âBecause- youâre⊠way too close.â
âBut you arenât pushing me away? Iâll scoot back if you want. Iâm not a mind reader though, so just use your words.â
Your mouth felt dry. Why werenât you saying anything? You could speak. Open your mouth and tell him to move. Take your free hand and shove him.
But⊠a part of you didnât want him to move.
Hanako smiled once more, his eyebrows drawn together slightly, as if he were saddened by something. âIâm sorry that you were dealt a hand like that in life. Itâs easy to look around and find all the negatives in life. But,â He leaned forward a bit more, nose nearly touching yours, âyou arenât your parents. You donât need to follow in their footsteps. Donât let their problems influence you so heavily to where you miss out on potentially great things. Itâs okay to be sad about it. Itâs okay to be scared. But itâs still your life, not theirs. If everyoneâs overuse of it bothers you, then only say it when you mean it. Still, if you feel love, embrace it.â
Your eyes felt slightly prickly, as they watered up a bit. His sincerity⊠your racing heart. Maybe, just maybe⊠you were in love.
âI⊠think I love you, Hanako,â You muttered. You were scared. You were scared that heâd tell you he was joking- or that maybe this wasnât love. Scared of so many things, stemming from one little word. Yet, you tried to embrace it.
âI love you, (Y/N). And nothing will change that,â He said, his smile widening. Quickly, he closed his eyes, closing the distance between the two of you. His lips were⊠cold. His touch was the only thing that reminded you that he wasnât alive. Still, the warmth of his words made up for it, as you closed your eyes into the kiss.
His encouragement wouldnât drown out the fear completely. He couldnât take the memories away. But he tried⊠he told you that he loved you, so⊠youâd believe him. After all, you hadnât heard him overusing the word. It only made that moment feel that much more genuine.
