the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

something that drives me insane on a relatively regular basis as a body jewelry understander is talking to people who have sensitive skin who are like "oh well I just can't wear any earrings without my ears getting inflamed" and I say "well what have you tried" and they say "well I've tried sterling silver and I've tried gold..." and it's like. ok. I don't know how gold and sterling somehow got spun by the jewelry industry as being especially good for sensitive skin but whenever I'm like "well have you tried implant grade titanium" they're always like "no....... but I've tried sterling silver... and it didn't work ..." like. I don't know how this narrative about sterling silver somehow got so strong but when they put pins in your fucking legs when you snap your leg in half are those pins made of sterling silver or are they made of implant grade titanium or surgical steel????????? HELLO. HI. YOU MIGHT BENEFIT FROM TRYING IMPLANT GRADE TITANIUM I AM JUST SAYING

I'm mad at whoever lied to you about various metals.#look I completely understand if your body happens to think that your piercing is an open wound for two decades #I have been there.#and I promise you the answer. is implant grade titanium.#there are many solutions to this problem one of them is implant grade titanium the other is surgical steel sometimes.#the other is sometimes if you can stretch the piercing to like... 10g #you can put a surgical grade silicone sleeve in there and then you can use cheaper metals for earrings #because they will not be touching your flesh they will be touching the silicone sleeve.#anyway the point is #someone should pay me to be some sort of piercing advisor.#there has been a lot of progress made in the area of body safe metals in the last 50 years is the thing #and we are fortunate enough to live now and not 50 years ago.#the mainstream jewelry industry has not exactly caught up with this.

Dentist today. Crying screaming and throwing up

#this should not be happening to me!!!!!!#he only has a short appointment available so i think they’re just going to slap some composite on it and send me on my way #which…�� fine. i don’t care anymore #i just don’t want to be in pain #in a way i’m kind of relieved because it means my friend can’t come over #i’m trying to help her with something but all of the dates she has for when stuff happened are pretty wrong according to my records #(which i trust because they come from stuff like timestamped images and phone call logs)#(whereas hers come from her going ‘well i think THIS happened after THAT but i’m not sure so i’ll just ascribe a random date to it’)#and also i feel like she’s trying to twist some of her recollections so that they back up HER recollections #but sometimes it’s totally unrelated but she Wants it to be related so she’s trying to claim i heard something i couldn’t have heard #i had to tell her like 3 times that i wasn’t in the country on this date i was supposed to be at her house #so it’s all just really frustrating #so yeah she wanted to come over here and complain and i was like no this is the last thing i need #i’m trying to redo my nails for god’s sake #oh my nail polish came off in the bath lol 🥲#like fully peeled. never had that happen before #i do think it was a combination of things. 1) used a dodgy old sally hansen strengthener on my bare nails #2) next layer was a holo taco base coat which always seem to be a Bit peely #even if not actually a peely base #3) i only had a thin layer of mooncat polish on. just 2 coats #4) top coat was glossy taco. my polish had been on maybe an hour and i proceeded to get in the bath and submerge myself #it was a ridiculously hot bath too so i’m not surprised my polish lifted #but now i need to paint my nails again and i need to get to the dentist and then i need to get some work done this afternoon #i don’t have time to explain that i was not here in february 2021 #personal

One of my favorite choices the Apothecary Diaries made was making the Emperor a “normal guy” (as far as I know as an anime-only). He’s not evil. He’s not hindering Mao Mao’s journey. He respects the concubines.

If anything his lack of autonomy and presence as the most powerful person in the country further enhances the show’s themes of working within the confines of class and gender inequality.

The previous emperor was a horrible, horrible pervert. Okay, then this emperor only weds women of age… Until he’s forced to take his father’s precious wife due to politics. The current emperor reasonably avoids her.

Eunuchs exist? Bam! now the surgery is outlawed, but this will create a reduction in male labor around the palace.

The emperor clearly favors few women. Well, now he must recognize a concubine with a powerful politician father playing the system.

He supports Mao Mao toeing the line of social expectations for women, but hasn’t removed the law against women preparing medicine. It makes one think, if he wanted to, could he make the change at all? For every two steps forward, he’s forced to take one step back.

In this universe even the Emperor is limited by social pressure and the expectations of his station. His life and that of his children is out of his control, and if that isn’t such a compelling piece of world building I don’t know what is.

If that’s how the author twists the narrative of the Emperor you better believe her female characters dealing with women’s issues in this society are even better written.

I think people sometimes misunderstand why we come up with such elaborate justifications for shipping two characters together. I don't justify my ships because I feel that I need to; I justify my ships because squinting at the published canon with furrowed brow and asking myself "okay, how exactly would this work?" is my idea of a good time.

okay so like, when you lose a lot of weight, the world and everyone in it becomes suddenly way way nicer to you. people treat you better across the board, from strangers to family to friends; you get opportunities you wouldn’t have otherwise gotten; doctors take you seriously; etc etc etc. anyone who has gone through any form of major weight loss can tell you this.

& it is absolutely fucking insane how many people who have gone through this weight loss respond to this fact of the world not with horror and disgust at how bad society hates fat people, but rather with a sort of missionary-style evangelizing to everyone around them that they need to lose weight, too, because life just gets so much better!!!

i don’t even know what to say about it. just like, jesus fucking christ.
