So some back story!

I saw this "theory" that the reason why Rhys was "different" in Silver Flames is because he was actually Tamlin in disguise. That got my brain and @luciensdefenseattorney (Ce's) brains turning.

IF this was even a possibility... how?

Story Tamlin pretending to be Feyre lures Rhysand in with promises of electrical lint rollers and when Rhysand drops his guard BAM turned into little Baby Bat.

This little scene popped into my head just as I was about to head to bed, so obviously I had to write it down. Sleep can wait. rhysand x fae!reader

Maybe it was the way your heart pounded wildly in your chest, or how the cool wind whipped past your ears, tugging strands of hair free, or just maybe—it was the way your arms tightened around Rhysand’s shoulders as laughter spilled from your lips. Giggling, loud and unapologetic, you clung to him as he shot through the skies above Velaris, wings soaring through the starlit night like a predator of the heavens.

This mate of yours really did spoil you. All it had taken was a single, wistful mention of wanting to “taste the sky.” You hadn’t even meant it as a request—more of a fleeting thought spoken aloud. But Rhys, ever the devoted, attentive male that he was, had heard those words and immediately dropped the report he’d been reading.

Before you could protest or even process, he’d crossed the room in a flash, pressing a cascade of kisses to your face. Quick, warm, reverent—one on your forehead, another on the tip of your nose, then your cheeks, your jaw, and finally, a lingering one on your lips.

“Let’s make a memory,” he’d purred, the promise glinting in those violet eyes.

A moment later, he’d scooped you into his arms like you weighed nothing at all, his wings unfurling in a powerful snap. There had been barely enough time for you to gasp—half in surprise, half in exhilaration—before he’d leapt into the air, carrying you both into the star-freckled skies.

Now, the world stretched out endlessly below and above, Velaris glowing like a jewel beneath the dark blanket of night. Your laughter softened into wonder, your gaze sweeping over the twinkling streets and rivers of light.

Rhysand’s arms tightened around you, in a quiet reminder that you were safe, cherished, adored. He tilted his head to press another kiss to your temple, murmuring against your skin, “You’re far more breathtaking than the view.”

His voice was honeyed silk, teasing and sincere all at once, and the warmth of it settled in your chest, spreading to every corner of your soul. You couldn’t help but grin, your fingers tangling in the inky strands of his hair. “Flatterer,” you teased back, though your voice trembled with affection.

He laughed, the sound vibrating against you as his wings shifted to slow their flight. “Only when it’s deserved.”

Another kiss—a sweet, fleeting brush against your lips this time—before Rhys dipped into a gentle spiral, your laughter ringing out into the night like a melody only the two of you could hear.

If this was what it meant to fly with your mate, you never wanted to touch the ground again.

Lucien wasn’t looking at you with disgust because you’re mated and he’s seeing it for the first time believing you loved Tamlin, he’s disgusted because he just had to hike through mountains, fight his brothers, and fly in another males arms uncomfortably, is in filthy clothes and just betrayed his best friend for a mate he doesn’t even know, and now you guys just ignored him in favor of fucking. Give the male a break. Any reasonable person would be equally as disgusted, the only reason your inner circle isn’t is because they’re used to it.

Rhysand's hatred for Nesta comes from a developed attraction towards her that he cannot handle. He hates himself for having these thoughts, about Nesta Archeron no less. It's why he loses his composure so easily when she's involved, why he's so adamant on controlling her and keeping her near his grasp even when he claims to want her dead. Whenever he faces Nesta, he acts irrational and weirdly emotional, like her mere presence drives him mad.

And it's so funny to think about it.

thinking of cassian this morning unfortunately and it’s something I’ve mentioned in tags on other people post but I just gotta yap about it again real quick.

I’ve never understood how or why cassian is so insistent is the best word I can think of rn on his ‘bastardy’ and how hard his life is cause iirc wasn’t he practically adopted into the high lords family at like, 10??? when he and rhys were in the windhaven training pits practically torturing azriel??? cassian almost definitely doesn’t know any other life aside from one of privilege just by virtue of calling rhys ‘brother’ and later being Illyria’s General which leads me into my next point:

yeah no shit the illyrians don’t respect you cassian you’re a race traitor stupid. all he ever does is complain about how backwards and savage illyrian’s are all while lamenting how he can’t do anything to change them but he ‘still has hope for his people’. cassian is just as trapped in the cycle of abuse as any other male illyrian he just can’t see it cause he’s sulking about his own personal trauma 500+ years later and hung up on all of rhysand’s platitudes and conformist rhetoric. and even if he did see it he wouldn’t do anything about it imo cause that would mean having to confront the fact he’s been complicit in the very cultural things he’s always been so derisive of. which leads into my next, and hopefully last, point:

ik a lot of people were/are of the opinion that acosf should have been about cassian and nesta and reforming illyria over….whatever that was….and while I don’t disagree with the sentiment (sf is my mortal enemy) I personally feel that illyria is so deeply tied to azriel and his specific internalized racism that inserting cassian into that ticking time-bomb would be detrimental to all of illyria in the end (not that I expect sjm to even touch on such a nuanced and heavy topic unless she gets to play white savior). I simply refuse to believe that illyrian culture is war and abuse and misogyny, there has to be more to it than that and I don’t think cassian is the one that could explore the true underlying culture of illyria because he doesn’t care- he doesn’t want illyria to change for the better, he just wants it to not be so embarrassing imo. cassian to me reads as a character incredibly ashamed of where he came from and found validation in people telling him he’s ‘not like the other illyrians, you’re special, you’re better than them’ because, referencing my first point, cassian was raised in the household of the high lord, he’s been both purposefully and unintentionally othered from his own people and so can’t see how and why they’re truly suffering and how to best help them
