Lloyd’s the kind of person to be completely silent while everyone is horribly singing Bohemian Rhapsody only to belt out the line “I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all” in perfect pitch and then fall dead silent again as he went back to like, reading a book or something. send post

really weird trend of popular bloggers suddenly weighing in on something while being weirdly transmisogynistic. like i have specific people in mind here re. tma and egg discourse but like you can probably think of like 5 off the top of your head for completely unrelated stuff.

well well well if it isn’t the fankid that started it all
clearly going through lots of style changes (the last two were me trying to stay as close to the actual show’s artstyle) but anywayyy, I first designed Milan as a joke! fankids for crack ships are funny, but then they somehow spawned my TPT universe and now HP/Cupid is something I actually ship now 😔 they’ve only interacted in the Fairy Oddlympics but shhhh let me be silly

I wish it were more common for people to accept that trans people are often going to have very complex relationships with a lot of things - sexuality, gender, presentation, even growing up.
I'm just really disheartened when I see people expecting trans people to neatly fit into boxes that ridgedly force us to conform. I'm really disheartened with the idea that in order to "really" be a true man, woman, or person, you have to have the right experiences rather than authentic ones. And oftentimes, the "right" experiences for us to have are whatever make cis people (or even other trans people) the most comfortable. It's never truly about the individual's experiences or comfort.

you guys know that you can share important political news without that supernatural meme right. not all information has to be sanitized and joked about in order to be spread

I feel like another disadvantage of Elle's new school is that it's one without school uniform for Sixth Formers (Y12-13, or 16-18 year olds). For anyone who wasn't sure, there are three varieties of Sixth Form dress codes in the UK:
Official school uniform (possibly different to younger year groups)
Smart/smart casual - one friend went to a school where the students had to wear blazers/suits but outfits could be personalised from there
Non-regulated - basically from a suit to T-shirt and jeans, it was free game (usual 'avoid showing skin' rules typically applied)
Elle clearly has type 3 in contrast to the other characters, who have type 1. And while Heartstopper is better when it comes to Dawson Casting than most other shows (Brown was the oldest of the squad at 22 when S1 filming wrapped up, and Walser was an exception at 26), Elle's fashion is usually more mature with her showing more skin than what is usually considered 'acceptable' for her age (Elle's mother even says so in S2E2) - in fact comparing Finney's Instagram page to comic!Elle, who often opts for looser clothing and rarely shows her shoulders let alone her midriff, it's hard to deny that Finney's image didn't influence tv!Elle, especially when you compare S1 vs S3 (consider her larger, less form-fitting coats in S1 to her crop tops and tighter dress in S3 - she dresses warmer for Charlie's indoor birthday in April than for some of her outings in December).

All this is not to shame teenagers who show skin or to claim it is unrealistic - I was a teenager who owned a crop top and so did many of my peers (though a smaller proportion actually wore them at school). It is complicated having a developing body and trying to reconfigure your relationship to clothing and self-perception, and this doubly applies for trans teenagers, nearly of whom have to deal with gender dysphoria.
However, it can be hard to remember that you are meant to be watching Elle and not Finney herself, and I think this slightly undercuts how insidious the radio interview actually is. Because it's not just 20 year old Finney who's skipping uni or clocking out of her job just to be subjected to transphobia (which would be horrible on its own), it's meant to be 16/17 year old Elle who's missed school for this. I think having her in school uniform would've helped emphasise that this is someone who isn't even an adult having to defend herself against transphobes with no warning.
#it mine#heartstopper#heartstopper critical#heartstopper criticism#rewatching some clips/compilations and with the exception of the beach and halloween scenes it tends to be tara and elle who end up showing#darcy wore some tight shirts/crop tops in s2 but the most revealing they get in s3 is a sleeveless shirt which is still fairly baggy#sahar is pretty conservative in her clothing#and imogen has some tight tops but no crop tops and mostly wears long sleeves or a jacket/cardigan#and the guys wear shorts sometimes but rarely if ever anything sleeveless (and no crop tops because those are for girls i guess)#and like. fair enough if that's their style. and their posts (especially finney's) often feature brands so might not reflect personal style#but having the two black girls (and only main trans girl) in tight/revealing clothing compared to everyone else is a bit... of a choice?#i did joke about elle in crop tops practically being a running gag before but it is a bit egregious#obviously the solution isn't 'make the other actresses wear more revealing stuff' because they might not be comfortable with that#but maybe 'stop giving elle strings + two pieces of fabric and calling it a shirt' isn't a bad idea#heartstopper analysis#elle argent#yasmin finney#also i'm ignoring s2 and parts of s3 because they take place during summer so i can understand wearing shorter clothing. like that's legit.#btw i'm not saying that s1 elle was the pinnacle of fashion because she wasn't (though she did pull off the blue jacket well)#and some of her s2/s3 outfits do slay#i just wish her fashion didn't have to be so different to everyone else's in this way

idk guys but i think "black lady making a parody campaign of an overrated kid's book written by a transmisogynist where they mock the original book and its writer at every given venue and it barely feels like the original" is not nearly equatable to "white guy making a joke about an asian trans woman having a dick in her intro, immediately calling attention to it by laughing at his own joke, and not developing that poor trans woman as anything more than a mildly antagonistic force/love interest for another trans person"

Trans boy Percy can be a lot of fun
just a lot of people have a tendency to make it something he comes out about Pre-canon and that it changes nothing
while I'm over here like I firmly believe that Molly would not have continued having kids if she thought she already had a daughter
and i think she would be annoying as hell about him figuring himself out I just think she would be so disrespectful about it
Molly would be a "but your ruining yourself! you are my baby girl!" while crying type of parent and I believe that in my heart
She would guilt trip Percy like crazy about it while feeling 100% like she's doing the right thing.
Do I think that maybe she would realize after a few years that she's being absolutely terrible? I mean like I would hope so
