Beyond the Surface of Suo and Sakuraâs relationship
**MANGA SPOILER WARNING**
This is my first post on this website, apologies if theres anything incoherent here. This post is also very simplified and lacks some information as I wanted to keep it as concise as possible. If you would like a full-blown analysis about their relationship, do let me know. I may consider making a complete writeup.
Contrary to popular belief about their âlack of interactionsâ, Suo and Sakura share many important and pivotal moments together scattered across the story. They may not have that big impactful moment compared to other dynamics in WBK (examples being Chika calling Endo by his full name, or Nirei yelling at Sakura in Noroshi, but weâll get to that later), however they are important to their relationship and for their individual characters. Thereâs too many to list here, so I will keep it short.
From the start of Wind Breaker, Suo has always teased Sakura; even lying to him when they first meet:
We all know that Suo is a very unserious guy, and this aspect of his character is highlighted the most when it comes to his interactions with Sakura. He constantly pokes fun at him; blatantly lying to him with the sole purpose to mess with him and just being a general tease.
These arenât even all the instances when Suo does this! I got lazy while compiling images (yes, theres *that* many moments where Suo teases Sakura), but I hope this paints a good perspective.
This makes Sakura thinks of him as âuntrustworthyâ, in a more lighthearted sense.
Infact, out of anyone else in the cast, Sakura is the only person who actively questions Suoâs character. (Iâm not counting Tsugeura because their confrontation was a one time thing)
But hereâs the thing: Even if Suo takes advantage of the fact that Sakura is gullible enough to believe anything just so he can mess with him, Sakura still relies on Suo.
He relies on him to come up with a strategic plan for their war, partners with Sugishita despite his initial reluctance, and even follows his advice on how to fight with others people (which works in his favor immensely during the beginning of Noroshi and while he works with Sugishita)
Theres also another moment Iâd like to showcase (which is very underrated imo):
Here, we see Sakura taking the support of Suoâs shoulder in order to kick Endo in the face. We also see Suo defending Sakura a few moments ago as well.
Heresâs the thing: Sakura is an arial fighter. He can easily jump to certain heights by himself, much less be able to kick his opponents mid-air. He doesnât require any support to lift his body upwards.
So why would Sakura do this?
Itâs simple: Sakura trusts Suo, whether it be direct or subconsciously. And as his vice captain, Suo also trusts Sakura. Why would he appoint him as class captain if otherwise?
Their mutual trust plays a massive part in their relationship. There are many instances showing this aspect, but for now I will just analyze this iconic scene:
Both Sakura and Suo immediately jump into action in order to protect their friend, Nirei, from any immediate threat (Endo). They exchange no words, only a knowing glance to each other.
I believe that this page shows the essence of their relationship: Despite their petty banter and occasional disagreements, despite how less âopenâ their relationship is, they are more often on the same wavelength than not.
They care for and trust each other immensely. However, many of their nuances are in hidden between the lines of their relationship due to the guarded nature of characters.
And it is with all these aspects combined that makes the Suo and Sakura duo appealing to many people.
TLDR: Suo and Sakura trust and care for each other a lot, despite their personal shortcomings and Suo incessantly messing with Sakura.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. There was so much more I wanted to write about here (such as their flawed perspectives on each other, suoâs perspective on sakura, and how they uplift each other), but unfortunately Tumblr literally refused to upload most of my images and nuked half of this post bc it decided not to save the draft; hence the short analysis. If you have any additional thoughts, feel free to let me know :)

Yes! All of this! It makes me pretty emotional as an American. There are so many parallels. Swap out Magister class for the owner class in the US and a lot of it lines up.
The US sucks but the people? Well some of them suck too, lol
but also! pretty much everyone I've ever loved and cared about was born and raised here. Kind, caring, compassionate, community-minded, forward-thinking people grow from here. There's a revolutionary spirit that flows through so many of us. There's so much to love and so much to hate all at once. It's painful and beautiful and awful and lovely.
Neve Gallus and Shadow Dragon Rook sharing Tevene culture and all of the things they LOVE about Tevinter and it's people will never not make me emotional.
As an empire and a power, Tevinter has a blood-soaked legacy of harming bith the world and its own people. But the people themselves? Your average Soporati? The communities they belong too?
Vibrant, lively, loving. Traditions and stories and songs going back generations, growing and changing over the years.
I really feel like dance and communal meals are BIG there. Festivals during the Annums bringing whole neighbourhoods together in Minrathous.
Neve and Rook teaching Bellara a Tevene circle dance in the dining hall, singing a somg as best they can between laughter. Rook sharing foods recipes they love with notes from Neve and just... Letting everyone see the joy in their world.
#Playing a SD Nevemancer Rook has been v emotional#It's tough to be an American rn#Not nearly as tough as it is to be anyone from any of the many countries America is currently sucking the lifeblood out of. Or murdering...#But still tough#As individual Americans#we are simultaneously so powerful and so powerless#It's hard to know what the right thing to do is#When there are so many Out There who need support#But because of the lack of support from our govt there are many In Here who need support as well#My dad has alzheimers and is fully dependent. He needs round the clock support#That shit is expensive. If he and my step ma hadn't been so frugal for so long and lucky enough to have the ability to save idk what we'd d#My grandmother is nearing her end of life and there's just so many hoops to jump through to get even the most basic support from the county#And it doesn't even come close to covering what we will need#There may come a time where I need to just not have a job because it'll make more economic sense for me to be her full time caretaker#But the US doesn't value that labor#So the wife and I will just be SoL I guess#Sorry for the long tag rant#I'm just mad at my government#And feel simultaneously helpless and disgustingly horrifically privileged#Gotta channel that hurt like Rook and Neve and the rest of the Shadows do

I've read a few of Damon's dialogues and I actually think he hates his talent a bit.
It's hinted at that the only reason he continues with it is because it got his parents' money as he talked about it in Eloises FTE if I remember correctly. He won money via debate competition, and so because his talent was helping his parents, he continued doing it. It's also probably why he's so harsh with other people's talents. If it doesn't help people, it's not important, or if it doesn't improve something, it's not important.
At the end of the prologue, when asked what makes his talent so important, he stutters and hesitates about it. If he can argue any angle, why hesitate against something that he would know so much about. In trials, he's not really arguing and more just bringing stuff to light and explaining things. He isn't really debating.
His talent made him isolated from everyone, and if all you do is argue and you're relied on because of it, you're going to be more blunt and rude. He's definitely not used to doing things in a sweeter way.
So maybe his arc would be more learning to enjoy debating and realizing that talent isn't everything. (He'll stay an asshole throughout the series. It's what makes me love him so much.) He isn't self-conscious about it more that he grew to dislike his talent like Eva.
I actually really like Damon as a protagonist even though he's mean and rude about basically everything, I think that's what's charming about him to begin with! I didn't pick up on his slight insecurity about his talent, but I did notice he's constantly comparing talents with other Ultimates, and trying to weigh their utility for society, so maybe he does have something against being a "debater".
it almost makes me think that his personality and ego are just a facade he puts on to feel more confident about his talent being something kind of ordinary. When you really think about it, his talent is kind of on par with Eva's in that it's something just about anyone can do and "get good" at if they just practiced more, and there's some usefulness for it in society but most people don't ever really think about Debate or Math unless they're shafted with jobs that directly call for that kind of stuff.
While Damon may be kind of a mean guy, he's actually a pretty empathetic person, which makes sense because in order to be good at Debating you also have to understand the point your opposition is making. And even when Damon has never had experience with the issues his classmates has, he still recognizes that it must have been hard for specifically that person (I noticed he did this exact thing in Kai's FTE's too lol)
On the flip side, I find that Damon is also really honest about how he feels and what he thinks, where as most of the cast prefer to keep things like that about themselves hidden. Damon has secrets and even lies, sure, but when it comes time to voice his general opinion about the Killing Game he's always honest and doesn't sugar coat it. He's a jerk about what he says, but he doesn't care because he will only ever be honest if he believes he's right about it.
Damon has a sense of confidence that's not often found in Dangan protags, but he's also a bit insecure which reminds me of ALL the dangan protags lol.
#project eden's garden#p:eg#p:eg spoilers#damon maitsu#i think this also feeds into why he disliked Wolfgang so much#someone who's just a few years older than you achieving a successful career#meanwhile you JUST graduated from highschool and haven't proven yourself as the real âUltimateâ Debater

Octavia is a seventeen year old girl who has little to no connection to the outside world that we know of. Stolas is the one positive relationship she has and that has become more and more strained over the years and especially since he slept with Blitzø that first time. And so she's been caught in the middle of her parents' drama, her mother's abuse hitting a new peak, her father finally standing up for himself which changes the dynamic as well, her mother moving out and also trying to pursue a relationship with Blitzø, which definately is a lot to deal with for anyone, especially a kid.
But, let's face it, Octavia does come across as pretty self-absorbed in a lot of ways. Which I do not blame her for at all, btw, we are all self-absorbed when we're young and especially in this awkward teen years. And dealing with a divorce is going to be rough on the kids, it's common for kids to feel like their parents not loving each other and staying together is somehow their fault.
But with that said, that immediate jump from "my dad's taking anti-depressants" to "is it MY fault that he needed these? Was he only staying with us and keeping himself miserable because of me?" Which, while mostly true, is a bit of a oversimplification of the situation. Yes, Stolas stayed with Stella and put up with her abuse so Octavia could have a normal, happy life, but if he had not met up with Blitzø again, him wanting a divorce and finally standing up for himself probably wouldn't have happened. Blitzø made him realize that he could choose for himself and find happiness, but if he hadn't, he'd probably would have just stayed in that relationship until he died if it meant keeping Octavia happy. And Stolas is a big People Pleaser so he probably wouldn't have rocked the boat too much if he hadn't found that strength in Blitzø.
People in bad, unhappy or abusive relationships have often been convinced that things can't get better, that this is all you're gonna get so it's better than nothing, and part of escaping is learning that things can indeed get better. And once you realize that, it's very hard being okay in those bad relationships or situations, which is shown as Stolas stands up to Stella, goes through with the divorce and tries to pursue his own happiness.
But back to Octavia, this of course is hard for her as her whole life and world is crumbling around her and as Stolas is her only positive relationship, she's terrified of losing him. As well as, while her life may not have been 100% happy or good, it was one she was used to and grew to either love or tolerate. And since Stolas is the one who pulled the plug on it, it is easy to point the finger at him saying he ruined everything. Kind of like how it's easy to blame anyone who blows the whistle for disrupting the status quo that everyone has grown used to because now they have to settle to something new, rather than happy someone finally did something to try and fix a problem and in the long run could make things better.
And since teenagers are a bit self-absorbed and dramatic, it makes sense for her to feel like Stolas has ruined her life and that he chose Blitzø over her, and not as Stolas trying to find a healthy relationship with someone else that can make him happy in ways she can't. That it isn't as black-and-white as she makes it out to be, that loving Blitzø doesn't make him love her any less or him being miserable and needing anti-depressants is because of her and him taking the first out of their family that he could find because he was just that unhappy. That in her mind it makes sense that Stolas just stayed with her because of obligation and the second he could leave her and Stella behind for Blitzø and can't see the whole picture yet.
That Stolas isn't choosing Blitzø over her, but rather choosing Blitzø over Stella and her abuse. That Blitzø isn't trying to steal her dad from her but maybe give her a happier, healthier family dynamic than the one she has. Right now she can't see thatm she only sees her father choosing to die for his affair partner and was willing to leave her alone with her mother. And more or less saying he should have let Blitzø die so Stolas wouldnt' have left her behind. Which is unfair and cruel to say, especially to someone who's already depressed and broken, but I'm willing to bet you money that if someone sat her down and had a calm, gentle conversation with her about it, asking if she really thinks her father should have let Blitzø die, she'd probably say no, if a bit reluctantly. But these are the kind of emotions you go through during tough times and we all say things we don't mean when we're upset, hurt and angry but once we start unpacking them we're able to deal with them better and see them in black and white.
After all, hurt people hurt people
And the sad thing is, all it would take is one long, probably painful but long overdue conversation between Stolas and Octavia for her to understand, or at least understand his perspective better. Maybe not the whole thing, as she's right in the middle of abuse and growing up around it has made her grow used to it. It would probably help to talk to an outsider who's able to see the abuse for what it is. But once Octavia realizes this, sees how truly terrible and evil her mother is and how she tried to have him killed, she will turn on her, no doubt about that. And once she's also given some love and compassion from others, the way Stolas has started to, she will go through the same kind of journey her father is currently going through.
Both Stolas and Octavia have hurt each other and both have good reasons for why they did what they did or feel what they feel, but I 1000% believe they'll find their way back to each other.
As much as i can understand where Via is coming from, and her feelings are valid, she doesnât see her dad as a living person outside of just being her father. And that isnât right. Itâs especially not right seeing just how many people feel absolutely no empathy for him.
âShe was just a child having to endure all that!!â Okay, and how old was Stolas when he had to marry an abusive girl and have a kid of his own, exactly? At least he gave Via a chance to have a good childhood, he didnât have one. He didnât have anything except for his duties to carry out.
And while itâs heartbreaking that Via sees herself as an obligation, thatâs literally what she was supposed to be. Though that doesnât mean that was how he saw her. She was what saved him, what made him endure all the abuse, what kept him going.
But sometimes thatâs not enough, he had NO ONE to confide in and couldnât put his frustrations on his own kid (because heâs a good father, despite what some of you would like to believe, clearly you didnât grow up with a parent trying to guilt you by traumadumping when you can barely understand it), so he also NEEDED the pills.
The thing is, i also had that mentality towards my mom for dealing with depression UNTIL i started experiencing it myself. Because itâs so hard to realize that your parents are also human beings, since theyâre supposed to protect you, theyâre supposed to have everything figured out, to be the shoulder you cry on.
But if i see another dumbass claim that he CHOSE to leave and made the wrong decision in Mastermind, i need you out of this fandom. The whole point of that was that he had no choice, was he supposed to throw away the man he fell in love with, his first friend, his first time that wasnât for procreation, and the one who liberated him? Stolas is allowed to care for more than one person, and he deserves to be loved romantically by someone.
Youâre being too harsh on Stolas because for whatever reason you hate an abuse victim finally having a say in how to live for once in their lives, adding on top of that the weird, underlying homophobia in some of your criticisms for him.
Also i have a bad taste in my mouth from Via only seemingly hating Stolas, despite having SEEN how shitty Stella is. Sure, she doesnât know the full extent of the abuse, but sheâs heard the yelling, sheâs seen the throwing, the ridiculing, the insensitivity. And most likely that woman neglected Via as much as possible, because she also didnât choose to have her, but unlike Stolas she didnât give a fuck to take responsibility regardless. (Reminding you of the âYou get upâ comment from Loo Loo Land). This was all happening before the cheating, so thatâs not an excuse for her behavior (not that the cheating was, but at least Via would have been able to reason with her reaction to it).
Itâs a complicated situation and itâs so shitty to put all the blame on Stolas, he tried so much for his family, but it was never going to be enough, because heâs gay. Iâm glad he got out of that marriage.
Honestly, had i been given all those responsibilities at his age in a loveless marriage, i wouldâve gone insane. I wouldnât have been kind to my child, the cause of my shit life. But he never saw her as a weight on his shoulders, he has so much love for Via.

I think itâs so ironic that the Pony Express escapes a lot if not all blame in discussion. I canât even say I am excused from it but itâs just how hard people circle back to the characters alone without considering the environment they were made to be in.
Why would they design a ship where only two of the rooms lock? Not the bathroom? Not the sleeping quarters? We assume that all the companies in the universe are this shallow and careless to their workers but we explicitly know the Pony Express in extra vile. They are fed processed slop pack they canât even really cook and the ration of those pack is meager at best. They hired and made people with a plethora of conflicting demeanors and beliefs work together on a mission where cohesion is important if not an outright necessity and punish them for not being happy about it. Thereâs no social protocols, not chain of command other than Captainâs word/choice and the only way to enforce that is with a literal firearm. They donât allow them to celebrate freely and even took away leisure activities that would make them less stir crazy. They are only allowed a few hours of sleep despite their being no other real responsibilities or work on the ship, no matter the position or its importance. With any crew, with any level of synergy, this was a powder keg waiting for a spark.
Iâm not saying characters that made mistakes didnât make huge ones, but I think part of the horror is that at least for some (this is targeting Jimathan) those mistakes are partly made by a force of the hand. Thereâs a running theme of lack of choice and being forced into something and the very nature of how The Pony Express expected them to function plays a big part.
#like even I forget that all actions taken in the game were people trying to remain in protocol outside of Jimmy#Anya couldnât have jus stolen the scanner and got the gun cause sheâs a sensible person and knows sheâd be in legal trouble#or get everyoneâs credits docked or just hoping that thereâs some chain of command for this sort of thing#Daisuke only really acted in accordance to his direct superiors because heâs an intern he wouldnât know the first thing about protocol or#what to do in any situation. like this is essentially implied to be his first real job#Curly may be the captain but he still has to follow rules and procedures and we see with the letter the Pony Express likely has very shady#and shitty ones. he gives the best not depressing or totalitarian options he can otherwise everything is just his word which arenât even his#or like him just asserting his position with the gun which he wouldnât do#Swansea follows the book begrudgingly because heâs trying to stay right and not fall back into who he once was#I feel like itâs not incorporated nearly enough that the environment they were dropped into heavily affected their actions#say there was a single person higher than Curly or a plan of action when a crew member is considered a danger to himself or others#I think itâs fascinating how people will stick to protocol and break when they get scared or to their limit#cause the game shows how normalcy deteriorates and I think discounting what the characters where put through by the company takes a way a#real and scary aspect of what happened to Anya because as a friend Curly didnât do enough for her at all his comfort was there and he#appreciated but it was a distracted sort of care but as a Captain he didnât protect her but heâs was a Captain of the Pony Express like what#if they told him to wait to? he still shouldâve done something because Anya was actively suffering and Jimmy shouldâve been reprimanded but#heâs a captain with orders like the Tulpar isnât his ship in the same way like#god I wanna explain this in a way that makes sense but the Tulpar is like designed to breed animosity and work on the bare requirements one#needs to get things done thatâs not how people work and if anyone deviates or interrupts that it literally has nothing to handle it#it becomes clear that if any social unrest happens why they just say fuck it and give the Captain the gun because if something happens the#blame can easily be placed on the person they put in charge despite what they put them#in charge of like this is just like work place harassment irl because often the perpetrators are not punished but the supervisors for not#stopping them with meetings or cuts or whatever but the environment the company fostered is rarely fixed or blamed#like why was this allowed to occur? and honestly that is because Jimmy did what he did#ask me about this if this is confusing cause I worded it crazy#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#the pony express

I'm new to Sade so sorry if this is a stupid question, but was Sade gay? I'm currently reading Justine and noticed the passionate, semi-romantic descriptions of m/m sex, which contrast with the crude descriptions of f/m sex. I've not read all of Sade's books, but the ones I have read also feature characters who're mostly disinterested in women, who give off self-insert vibes (e.g. DolmancĂŠ). Am I reading too much into it? IDK but I was wondering if you could shed some light.
Happy deathday to Sade!! lol
Really all that can be said with certainty is that he definitely wasn't straight lol. Like anyone who died before modern queer theory, Sade's sexuality can be difficult to label with today's terminology. He was certainly attracted to both men and women, so for simplicity's sake I just say he was bisexual. But really, who knows...
Characters that he uses as self-inserts like DolmancĂŠ in PitB or Bressac in Justine are pretty exclusively attracted to men. Like you said, there's multiple times in his writing where characters will praise m/m sex and show blatant disgust towards sex with women. But if you look at Sade's life, there's only one known* male sex partner and many women. There's also several women Sade was in love with throughout his life, but there exists no letters of him professing love to any man. Could this be because male victims were less likely to go to the police, therefore less known to us? because women were easier to pursue in public? because even he felt the pressure of societal norms? because he kept relations with men better hidden? because any such letters or records were selectively destroyed by a relative? Who knows! It could be some, all, or none of these things. It's really up to the interpretation of the reader. The misogyny, philosophical extremism, and very culturally different ideas about sex add so many different variables to Sade's sexuality.
To add further confusion: gender and sexuality were much more correlated in Sade's writing (and seemingly in the time period in general, I mean look at the bisexual Lord Hervey being referred to as "the third sex"), male characters who get sodimized call it them "becoming women", women who put on strap-ons "become men", even women who get sodimized are masculinized: Saint-Ange says she wants to be a "Ganymede" to DolmancĂŠ. So sodomy seemed inherently gay to Sade, regardless of the sexes involved or what roles they played. Whereas today, that's definitely not the case. Beauvoir follows along with the sexuality-gender correlation and suggests that Sade felt more feminine than masculine and his written contempt for female genitalia was a product of his own gender frustrations. From what I've read, most modern historians tend to avoid labeling Sade with anything other than "sodomite" and "libertine" only using "bisexual" and "homosexual" to label certain actions he performed like "homosexual sex" "bisexual orgy" etc. This is when the word queer is godsent.
Tldr; He's too 18th century libertine for modern labels. Colloquially, I default to calling him bi, but we'll never really know. Maybe he would have preferred gay due to his preferences/philosophies. Who knows. Safest bet is to just call him queer.
*Should go without saying but, there were obviously more. Latour is just the only named one with recorded proof.
#sade not really having any close male friends throughout his life is so crazy to me#like its the 1700s and you DONT have a homosocial-homoerotic Friend you profess eternal devotion and love to???#get with the fucking program man#but it does make sense for Sade tho; he was so antisocial and insecure I can't be too shocked he didn't have male friends#Ive always seen his prefernce for female friendships as an extension of his control freakness and misogyny#I don't think hed be able to maintain a genuine friendship with anyone he considered a societal threat; which eliminates any other noblemen#he liked to be the most powerful person in the room; so he only befriended those he saw as ''beneath'' him#We have that very telling letter he wrote as a teen to his father where he became close to another boy in his regiment#he says smth like ''I am his friend; I have reason to believe he may be mine but what can we believe anyway? Friends often prove defective''#he just did not befriend many men in his life#I think it's an ego thing but who knows#maybe he genuinely did enjoy the company of women more; or like how Beauvoir suggests; he identified more with women than men#or both idk; those aren't mutually exclusive#maybe sade would have liked the split attraction model lol#prefers sex with men but relationships with women?#or maybe he would have hated labeling everything#but he did love his numbers and data and theorizing so maybe he would have liked it#the machinations of his mind are an enigma#Fritz is so obvious. Like that man way gay; no doubt#Sade??? uh.. queer#but thats just my opinion on it all. there's no right answer and I'm not a historian/anthropologist/psychologist#ask#anon ask

The gamut of emotions she is experiencing are similar to when she first set out on her field assignment with Roberto. It feels like ages since that day, running into Vash when heâd been hanging upside down, courtesy of bandits, but memorable enough that she can clearly picture every moment from that day with the utmost clarity.
There areâŚothers, as well, that come to mind, but Meryl does her best to focus on the positives.
She barely registers Knivesâs warning about bringing a flashlight and with as many spare batteries as she can carryâand the very obvious threat of not wandering off where humans have seldom gone; if theyâve even gone there before.
Her experience being underground, even inside a giant worm, still counts and is not something she wants to repeat. Under any circumstance.
The reality of what theyâre about to do makes her halt in her tracks as she composes herself, nearly forgetting the company she is with, and those memories make her snap to when she remembers that long tendril whip made of sharp blades that could have easily turned her into ribbons.Â
âO-of course! Iâll keep it to myself!â
Not that she has anyone to talk to. The Bernardelli news agency has been feeling a little hostile towards her lately and Meryl is being careful where she treads. Thereâs been things going on that donât quite add upânot like they are supposed to, and sheâs being careful where she digs.
At the mention of Nicholasâs moniker, Meryl stops in her tracks like sheâs been hit with a compulsion to remain frozen in place.Â
They had said their goodbyes when it was decided that Home would be where they would part ways.Â
âIâŚI donât know where he is, actually. So, thereâs really no point.â
Meryl grits her teeth at the slight tremble in her voiceânot because she misses the UndertakerâwellâŚthatâs not entirely true but she refuses to admit itâbut it is more so of the fact that she doesnât have anyone she can really talk to. Vash canât be found; Roberto is dead; Nicholas isâŚwell, she doesnât know where he is and sheâs not about to start looking.
However, that doesnât mean sheâs about to let go of him entirely.
âIâll need about a day to figure out how Iâm gonna pack what I need,â she says, relieved that heâs not demanding they depart right away. It would make sense for him to find someone to look after the farm while heâs gone. âWell, I better get startedâŚâ
She gives one last look towards Knives, like sheâs waiting for him to change his mind; when itâs clear he is not going to, Meryl books it and the first place she goes to is the nearest saloon. Out of breath, she reaches the counter, she procures a piece of paper from her notebook and a pen that can barely write but this may be its last note it will ever write before the ink completely dries out.
Despite the urgency, Meryl is careful to write clearly, and to not give too much information away. If there is one person who should know about her whereabouts, it has to be Nicholas.
To Nicholas,
Travelling far on the other side, with sharp company. Safe and doing okay. Canât call you, no signal down here. Havenât stopped looking. Hope you havenât, either.
-Meryl Stryfe
She signals for the barkeep and hands him the note and gives a description of what Nicholas looks like. If heâs not changed since, sheâll expect heâs still carrying around that giant cross and looking as disheveled as ever.
Before she knows it, sheâs meeting Knives back at the designated spot, a pack ready of what she considers essential to bring, and feels more nervous than excited at this point.Â
âJust promise me there wonât be any need to get swallowed up by a giant worm. Iâve already done that and am not a fan. Not a fan at all.â
"Home won't be much use. I said no one's seen them in a century, didn't I?" And the fleet had, of course, been rather busy trying to save themselves. None of the surviving ships would have had anywhere near the time to grab coordinates for the other falling ships when they barely managed to save themselves. And then they'd had to rebuild and survival was more important than looking for lost ships where none had survived.
"If you want coordinates you're gonna need a bug." That is how Knives knew where they were, after all. He considers, contemplates who would care for the farm if he left it behind. Someone in town, if given instructions... Another moment of thought, before Knives sighs. "We'll leave after I arrange someone to care for the farm." He's put a lot of work into this place, he isn't going to leave it to die without some sort of supervision. "I suggest getting yourself a working flashlight and as many batteries as you can shove into your pack." A mental apology to Zazie, who was definitely going to complain at him, later.
"You will not discuss our travel methods with anyone else." It's not a request, an edge of danger curling around the words in a way that's been absent in their conversations so far. "I won't have your kind invading down there."
If he's honest she's probably going to want to pack for a fairly long trip. The lack of a road beneath the sands means no truck, and Knives is already making a mental map of the tunnels he knows and where each of them may pass towns they can resupply at. The trouble, he figures, is going to be once they pass the invisible boundary of human settlement into the true wilds where no humans have set up camp. There won't be any towns to resupply out there, and they can only carry so much at once...
He glances down at his hands, frowning. How much can he create, if he regulates properly? Would it be worth it when they could find a way to carry more supplies? Perhaps Zazieâbut no, he doesn't want to make Zazie play pack bug either. Knives drags a dirty hand through his hair, scowling as he watches the reporter stumble around like a newborn tomas just finding its legs. She looks ridiculousâmaybe that's what Vash sees.
"This isn't going to be a short trip so you better say your farewells to Punisher before you go."

magic in asoiaf is genetic. and that is intresting. and the fact that grrm doesnât shy away from the implications of this makes me love asoiaf even more.
because itâs very understandable that these people who could ride dragons would see themselves as more gods than men. itâs understandable that the practice of sibling-sibling incest would become common in order to keep this ability in the family/to not lose said ability. itâs also understandable that these people would see their race as superior because they are able to do these things that others could not.
it also makes complete sense that this human civilization collapsed in a horrific magical event due to their own hubris because they saw themselves as gods when they were always only men.
and that is peak world building.
some more peak world building is that the noble houses of westeros also clearly gained power and held onto their power through the use of their magical abilities inherited from their ancestors.
a godlike existence like Garth the Green being the ancestor of all the oldest and most noble of the reach houses makes perfect sense for this world!and it also makes sense that the lords without this ancestry are discriminated against in this region that still holds onto the values their society cultivated in the past in order to maintain their magical superiority, even though most of these noble and old houses no longer exhibit these abilities.
and it also makes sense that these people no longer have access to these abilities as they no longer practice the religion that was centered around these powers; plus their blood is simply diluted at this point as these houses have married into a different ethnic group so often that the magical gene just doesnât surface anymore.
but the fact that it still matters if you can trace your ancestry back to Garth the Green? peak! peak! peak!
george does such an excellent job showcasing the stagnation of westerosi society here because why should it matter if youâre connected to this magic guy if magic is no longer commonplace? however, it also makes total sense that the ruling class of the reach still harps on and on about this as itâs how they maintain the status quo and differentiate themselves from those they consider lesser now that they no longer have access to magic themselves.
and this is also why itâs very important that the Starks still retain the blood of the first men. because the first men interbred with the children of the forest and other elder races, which is what gave these humans these powers. itâs also worth noting that before the direwolves connected with the Stark children, none of our current Starks were able to awaken their abilities by themselves, which shows that even now they are very far removed from their ancestor whoâs genetic makeup gave this bloodline these abilities. and it makes sense that the Starks experienced this slow magical decline because magic itself was declining in the world after the doom of valyria.
another reason for this decline is because Andal culture started heavily influencing the North and slowly changed the way magic was perceived. so now in the present, a warg/skinchanger/greenseer has become something to fear being because thatâd make you different and therefore puts your life at risk, which means that thereâs now practically no safe environment to cultivate these abilities and no secure way to pass down any knowledge you do have about said abilities.
i canât help but be reminded about how Jon Snow has rejected his nature and how that has led to the stagnation of his abilities, and then i think about Arya and Bran and how their new environments have led to an astonishing growth in their abilities, which shows that itâs not just genetics that matter, environment is also just as, if not more, important.
i bring all of this up because magic being genetic in asoiaf is not as problematic as people try to make it out as. in real life, sometimes people just have genetic gifts. some people can become olympians, and some people are disabled. some people are born 10 times smarter than the average human, and some people believe that covering their faces in lemon juice would turn them invisible. that is reality. and in this universe, some people have access to magic and some donât, and itâs all based on genetics. itâs unfair! and that makes it realistic.
not everyone gets to ride dragons and not everyone gets to travel back in time, and that grounds asoiaf, which is what grrm was going for.
and how these societies have organized themselves in response to these genetic abilities and the dangers they pose makes absolute sense. on one hand we have the valyrian freehold, which was a magic hotspot and the people who lived there used magic to propel their society to new heights, and on the other hand we have the seven kingdoms that demonize anyone too different, and all magic practitioners are different from normal humans.
and the fact that george decided to go this route with asoiaf is so juicy to me cause:
we have characters like Varamyr and Euron who use their abilities to commit great evils and we know that their powers have influenced the way they see and interact with others. on the other hand we have characters like Dany who use their abilities to fight against evil violent institutions. and through characters like her we learn how vulnerable fledgling magic practitioners/characters with these abilities are to these older and more dangerous institutions and individuals who are perfectly aware about the knowledge gap between them and these younger characters and know exactly how to exploit them.
so, while itâs understandable that the fandom is uncomfy with the practices and values that grrm has written about, this isnât bad world building by any means. itâs logical and well thought out. and i truly enjoy that grrm doesnât shy away from writing about the more worrying aspects and implications of magic being a matter of genetics. i also like how the seven kingdoms and the valyrian freehold are kinda extremes on the matter of magic and how this is/was detrimental to both of these societies and at the individual level. a horrific magical firey doom is not any better nor any worse than a slow drawn out icey decline.
imo, what is important to remember is that in the world of asoiaf, people with magic are the ones who are discriminated against (bc most POV characters are in Westeros and magic is a no no there). so they are the ones who are in danger if they out themselves as magic users. now, it is true that some societies are more tolerant (Qarth is a great example of this and Valyria before the doom was likely the most tolerant to have ever existed in this world), but as of now most societies simply arenât. remember jojens warning? he didnât pull that out of his ass. bran wouldâve been in a lot of danger if he came out and told the wrong people about his dreams/abilities. also, jonâs assassination may have been partly motivated by the mutineers fear of wargs. this is the life-threatening danger magic practitioners are in for simply existing in an intolerant society.
tbh the reason i typed all this up is because itâs very annoying when people try to ignore the reality, which is that the dragonbond depends on genetics. now, iâm sure there are other ways to ride a dragon, as dragons are magical animals so of course there may be a one in a million chance of a dragon allowing some rando to ride it, but this doesnât change the fact that there is such a thing as a genetic ability that gives these certain humans the ability to form a connection with a dragon.
(another example that i canât help but remember is that melisandre was able to get ghosts approval by using some of her tricks. of course there could be other reasons for ghost to have done this, but the most likely reason is that ghost simply fell for melisandreâs trick and this influenced how jon saw mel. but this doesnât change the fact that melisandre will never have the kind of bond jon and ghost have because melisandre is not a warg. this is also another example of how vulnerable fledgling magic practitioners are to older ones.)
so, sorry not sorry that george decided to create a realistic representation of what a society would look like if only certain bloodlines were able to ride dragons <\3.
#this is interesting! itâs juicy! because these are humans with the power of gods!#of course there was a civilization where the elites saw themselves as gods!#of course their powers impacted the way they structured their society!#of course the stagnant westerosi society still holds onto values and practices from hundreds of years ago#âŚbecause they once had magical abilities that set them apart. and bc their society is so stagnant they still have these values and practices#âŚafter they lost their magical abilities. and it makes complete sense that these magical abilities were lost!#magic is feared in westeros! anyone with these abilities is othered/an outcast. these inherent powers arenât cultivated bc this is a society#âŚthat fears and persecutes people with magic! and it makes total sense that this likely began with the arrival of the andals!#anyways magic is genetic âď¸#and itâs so cool that so many people in this universe may not know that they have these powers bc they live in a society that doesnât care/#doesnât cultivate said powers. jon snow is literally called a beast by other characters bc they think heâs a warg#westeros is not a safe space for my magical son#iâm ready to fight anyone who disagrees#itâs literally so fucking intresting and iâm glad that george doesnât shy away from any of it#asoiaf#pro targaryen#asoiaf meta#also letâs not pretend that warging/greenseeing hasnât been used for horrible things as well#hodor is right there. legends of the nights king show exactly what can happen when a very powerful greenseer is a horrific human#yeah anyways#maybe he wasnât a greenseer but u get my point (i hope)#asoiaf fandom critical#ppl having issues w/ the dragonbond being genetic has always struck me as odd#but iâd lie if i said i didnât know where this attitude came from#this whole post is a mess lmao#hopefully i got my point across but i dont rly care to edit đ¤ˇââď¸#this is def a word vomit

sorry my post is just to complain but guys i literally hate adobe after effects. i can not explain to you the mental torture and how LOW it has brought my mental health because I *need* to use it for my post production class because it's "industry standard". ADOBE After Effects has made me write off the entire film and video production industry as a turn off and I never want to do it ever again.
The amount of times this has crashed on me where I lost everything? 5+ hours of work? 8+ hours of work? It's my fault for not saving sometimes but I also have auto-save on. it didn't save anything so im just left with nothing.
You want a trip to burn out town really quick? Use adobe after effects in an academic setting where you have no choice but to use this program.
I have never in my life TOUCHED a program SO TERRIBLE that it made me never want to do anything about that form of art/media EVER AGAIN
#I'm ALSO going in and out of the hospital these past few weeks so im just bawling and crying and crying over losing this project just now#because it was due 3 days ago#and i cant finish it becvause i loste verything#im sorry to everyone reading this i just feel like an insane person#like if i tried to explain this to someone theyd just tell me to stop crying and to get over it#anyway cannot recommend adobe after effects any fucking less#never join advertising/film industry i guess?#im so miserable right now. AE is a constant crasher#i also got a new computer with 18RAM instead of 8RAM and it still did this#does anyone understand why i cant stop talking about this#it makes no logical sense that our industry relies on adobe THIS fucking much that a program that is KNOWN to crash often#is an industry standard i hate it here#its been 3 months of this#im in so much fucking physical pain thats why im going to the hospital and then i come home to this constantly#guys im so tired i hate Adobe with a passion i hate it so much#mod stuff#from kris p#may delete later but i have bad memory so ill forget and just never do that#when i say its fun im lying to you for masking/show. im lying

Something i really like about yohaji is its distinction between relationships with peers amd relationships with superiors.
One thing i thought was kinda silly at the begining was that haruaki was always hanging out with his students lile during breaks and shit (felt most strongly when they get scolded for breaking a window while playimg baseball) and i reason well hes the main character of course hes hanging out with the principal cast and i would have been fine with that.
But no not only does tanaka-sensei provide a in character reason (haru had a terrible school life) they come at me with 'haruaki is jealous of people friends' and what i think is really interesting about that initial chapter is that typically it would end with an 'oohhh but they ARE you're friends' but no it ends with 'even if you didn't make friends as a child you can still make adult friends' with miki and izuna becoming his friends.
This is echoed in the arc where haruaki is a student WITH sano and with his students and he has so much fun but finally he says 'im not your friend im your teacher' the relationships you have with your teachers and adults and vice versa in your life arent without value but theyre not the same as ones you make with your peers and should not be treated as such
#I do like that mai tanaka just wrote the same harukai arc twice and i ate it up both times#Theres more of this in the spin off too with mame and tama being friends with hatanaka but not enough to add on here#If u cant tell this is the most interesting thing i got out of this manga#I didnt add any pictures cuz i am lazy#Tell me if any of this makes sense or if u competely missinterpreted this manga#Also this is why i kinda find it disrespectful when ppl ship haru and sano#Cuz theres such a big distinction made that they arent on the same level sano is a child and haru is an adult#I dont care than sano is a god and might not be 17 this is what the manga tells us that they are teacher and student#Ofc ur allowed to do whatever u want shipping them is not gonna hurt anyone but still#Uhhhh watch yohaji when the animw comes out#Whatever whatever#Yohaji#Yokai gakkou no sensei hajimemashita!#haruaki abe

.............oh arc are you telling me that you. that you had to drag. the iron golurk (or... golem?? I guess???) back up the cliff. every time someone fought it. that is actually the worst I'm honestly kind of impressed you were able to get it back up there at all.
YEAH it's a case of "not" most of the time. there's a big meme (do you... know what a meme is?) that just. every time you die in the game you see big red text across the screen going YOU DIED before you wake up again at the nearest bonfire. and the average player sees it so, so much. I'm pretty good at the game and I still see it a dozen times at minimum in any given playthrough.
will do! it may take me a bit (he is not easy to fight no matter how many jokes I make about it) but will do o7
.......oh. oh yeah I can picture pretty easily how things could have gone very, very, very wrong with oolacile. that is. also technically part of the game in the sense that there was something released later that let you go back in time through a really convoluted process that I'm not sure how anyone found on their own and help out there.
anyway, glad to hear neither of you died to get here because that feels like it would be pretty traumatic, that's definitely better than the alternative I think because I may have. well.
oh arc this is awful to admit. okay so I've played through the game multiple times, yeah? I had no idea what I was doing my first time around, so I joined the blades of the darkmoon and then promptly stepped through the fog wall that. I was told by the game version of you not to step through. with consequences that were totally predictable in retrospect once I was done panicking.
I am so sorry and for the record I've never done that again. does not mean I regret it any less and I'm really glad you didn't have to deal with a similar situation
aaaanyway moving on! sorry that you're stuck in kalos, I wouldn't be surprised if there was something that could help but I wouldn't know what it is. main legends we've got over here are the sword and shield dogs and the fucked up wormhand thing from the sky. latter one was used for energy apparently but uh. that backfired. I'm gonna be honest with you, I think that would probably work out worse than the current system.
on that note I'm gonna go beat the shit out of your dad. might take longer but I wonder if I can get away with parrying all of his attacks.....
I think. I am going to do today's gogoat update early. and then go log off and play dark souls for the rest of the day. and try not to think about how much of a moron I look like right now.
I'm pretty close to hitting ng+ on my current save, at least! got all the lord souls, chucked them in the lordvessel, then I've just gotta go beat up a sad old man to really good piano music and then link the Fire. and then I get to do it all over again :)
I. probably will not do it all over again today though. I don't want to be in the undead asylum and I do not have it in me to speedrun the undead asylum. waugh

i wanna know how you learned how to render, it's so yum đđ
thank you!!! I'm glad u like it. I can try my best to explain my process but its very much a 'feel it with my heart' experience. This is gonna be long and incomprehensible but I'm gonna try:
If we're talking about the (above) garth & baby arthur jr pic or the bloody pete pic, I'd say i started to actually render like that in maybe high school art class (they were much worse then ofc because i have years more practice now)? Obviously my process now is different than it was back then, but before I actually started physically painting canvases with acrylics I usually just did line art and color without the blending-painting pizzazz.
Thats actually where I get my weird random interspersed colors in my coloring as well. Acrylics dry super fast and a high school art class is like 45 minutes so I'd have to totally mix a new pallet the next day. Not that I couldn't color match, but its annoying and having variations with colors or just mixing something up to fill in gaps looks neat if you get it right. If it looks bad just paint over it, but its worth it to try.
My process with these is almost exactly like my non painterly rendered ones, just with steps after. Also, you can get away with a lot when not fully rendering, but when i do render PHOTO REFERENCE is to die for. Specifically for the lighting. I can't emphasize this enough. By the time i'm done with a drawing my search history should be like "knees. Knees sitting. Knee anatomy. Harsh light photography. Curly hair. baby. J. C. Leyendecker new year baby" + 8 pictures of u doing whatever pose you're trying to do.
Anyway, the process for me is usually: vague sketch > carve out the lines/neater sketch > flat colors > basic shading/rendering > color adjusting sketch lines (usually from black to dark red) > collapse everything into one layer & get to WORK
I know the 1 layer thing is scary, but thats life. Its easiest to adjust things that way (for me). No need to worry about layers and blending modes cause its all right there. I usually duplicate the layer the drawing is in before I start on something crazy just to reassure myself that if I fuck it up I can go back. So a lot of the time my layers in procreate are progressively more rendered stages of the piece lol.
Now that Im here trying to explain this im blanking on how to actually express it. Lets see. I can run through some general stuff:
For both of those artworks (baby & pete) they're 100% made with HB pencil on procreate (a default brush! I've never downloaded any new brushes cause im lazy). I actually made a brush explanation for someone a few months ago I can put that right here:
hopefully those are readable. sometimes tumblr flops lmk if my writing is illegible
the eraser tool is your BEST FRIEND!!!! The way I get my lines and shapes and whatnot is by making big ass strokes and then erasing until whatever I'm looking for reveals itself. Here's a video of that process from the aquababy pic. Ignore the jerky pauses lol. also there's the reference photo!:
rendering itself is really hard to describe. Basically just throw color at it until it works out. (just tried to add a video but tumblr says only 1 video allowed
I hope this is helpful somehow! Just threw a ton of stuff at you. If you want anything more or the actual video or smth just let me know!
#this is A LOOOT#but there's gotta be something here thats maybe helpful#hope it makes any semblance of sense#asks#chooeychoco#feel free to dm me too for anything else lol#that goes for chooey and anyone reading this. id like to say im chill riiight đ#and if dming isnt ur thing the ask box is right there#this post my self destruct w that video. hopefully tumblr powers through and can post it#sorry if this is crazy im crazy#*MAY self destruct. Lordy

so iâm getting top surgery some time between the months of february and august of this year (would rather february obv but seems like summer might make more sense logistically). the thing is my extended family does not necessarily know that i have any kind of gender thing going on, not because they donât have access to this information, but simply bc they donât care enough about me to think about any aspect of my identity (because the world revolves around my cousin and i have always been peripheral). which means there is a very real possible future this year when i roll up to a week long extended family beach vacation likeâŚ.. sans tits and with two new massive scarsâŚâŚâŚ i donât plan on explaining anything in advance bc iâm sure my cousin will be emailing everyone her own personal accommodations beforehand and i wouldnât want to get in the way, but likeâŚ. surely at least one of them will notice? even if i donât go shirtless and i wear a bikini despite not needing one, they will notice, surely? and from there, what happens? itâs a mystery, but also has the potential to be very fucking funny in my opinion
#my grandma and one of my uncles would normally ask my dad about it nervously except idk if theyâll know how to phrase it this time?#it wonât stop them from asking but it will throw a wrench in the works for a little bit as they figure out how#then that uncle will ask ME a bunch of questions and that will be the most awkward and unpleasant part for me#(i do not want to share my gender journey with these people)#my other uncle and his ?wifepartnerpereon? may not notice and will not ask anyone about it#and my two cousins + their parents clan? honestly no idea how theyâll react#the cousins will notice obviously. they might ask me about it#the older one will tell her parents#her dad will probably mention it to my dad but be super weird about it. not in a transphobic way but in a condescending misogynist way#(bc he still sees me as a little girl with no autonomy or common sense)#and then me might make weird comments at me which is whatever#and my cousins mom will probably be sacharinely excited for me and give me a hug and say thatâs great!#which does not make her any less of an insane liberal rich white woman or any more of a good mother but iâll appreciate the sentiment#and my younger cousin will be cool but surprised#except less surprised bc iâve always done weird shit to my body as far as they were concerned when we were growing up#so i think theyâll see this as just an extension of all the hair dye and piercings and tattoos#my cousins shouldnât be surprised at ALL bc they and their goddamn parents all follow me on instagram and my pronouns on that app have been#they/them for like 5 years at this point theyâve just never bothered to notice#such is life#i wonât even pretend to know how my one uncleâs girlfriend and her shit daughter will react#they are both as unpleasant as they are utterly fucking baffling#so god only knows.#anyways it wonât change much in the long run bc family vacation will still end up being all abt my cousin anyways <3 god bless

I've been staring at ink's FĂQ for a bit. it got me wondering. I've got so many questions about this guy (from serious to silly)
how "fake" are his emotions? Are emotions really "fake" if they're things he really feels. Sure it's temporary, but if he feels it in that moment is it fake? seems to impact his ability to care for others somewhat so it must not be completely"real" . Are his emotions just permanently slightly duller than someone with a soul? Can he even CARE about not caring? How long does it take to wear off? Hours? Days? Weeks? Months?
(more yapping under the cut)
Do his emotions dull as they wear off? or does he just know when he'll "run out" of emotion intuitively? Does he get a like initial emotion high when he first drinks one? How does he try to balance them? Does he measure it??? like he takes out a scale and does it by ounces or something? Does he drink all of his belt all at once at the same time?? Like he puts all his vials in one hand and just chugs them? Does he drink the entire thing all at once? Or just a bit of a vial?? Leaving a bit of it left for later?
What do they taste like to him? Are they yummy? Do they smell like anything? Just paint probably but what type? Like does it smell more like oil paint, acrylic or watercolor (they all smell different i swear)? Could he theoretically use it like normal paint? Like if someone was feeling silly could they paint with his vials?
#im i making any sense#i just find ink very interesting#ink sans#inktale#toffeesbabbles#this is just a yap session#im not sure if these are valid questions#but also the visual of ink chugging all his vials at one squeezing them all in one hand is a silly visual#i need to study him under a microscope#like a little experiment#i need to analyze every bit of him#ut au#if anyone has answers#give them to me#ink brainrot#i checked the asks#and didn't find any answers to these questions#but i may not have looked hard enough#lol#all i know is vials make him function sorta normally#but ig im wondering how close to real do they get?
