I love how Penelope IS that girl like,
She’s the girl who has this mess of a man at her feet begging her to give him a chance after everything he’s done, and the thing is, this man is always the villian - on booktok he’s usually “misunderstood and morally grey” which makes him even less interesting than the fanfic girlies in the trenches shipping real villains and not sanitizing them at all which gives them even more opps because you have puritan antis telling them to kts and they have fake villain lovers insisting their UwU baby boy would never murder people even tho he does in canon ANYWAY
Odysseus himself considers his actions abhorrent no matter what led him to make those actions, he genuinely sees himself as the villain of his own odyssey (peep him referring his home being desecrated in the way he helped desecrate Troy!!!) so he can ONLY ask Pen is she MIGHT considering falling in love with the man he thinks he’s become, because he doesn’t feel like the man he was when he was with her
To which Pen replies I KNEW this is who you were when I fell in love with you. I KNEW what you were capable of. I TRUSTED that you would literally do anything and everything for me and our son because you told me once you would and I CHOOSE to love that about you instead of being scared of that. I’m not afraid of the things you’ve done, I’m sorry you HAD to do them, but I’m GRATEFUL you did because you’re here again, like you promised you would be, the same promise and the same man you were when you went to war.
She’s honestly the woman mainstream self-insert Mary Sue’s will NEVER be. A woman who looked into the eyes of a boyish man who said he loved her and realized oh this guy is SERIOUS to the point a weaker woman would cry and buckle about all the awful things that have happened, but no, not her, her husband said he was coming home no matter what and so he did.
You can walk away calling Odysseus an irredeemable monster but you will do so with his wife and son standing next to him because neither of them give a shit, the hands who committed those atrocities have also held them gently, and they will face this scrutiny together after two decades of being torn apart.

it's so wild that the ithaca saga is just one song, bold artistic choice to just have the challenge five times for your final album.

I had understood that it was Odysseus's plan to ambush the suitors in the armory: their first instinct would be to go there to arm themselves, so leaving it open is bait, but Telemachus got there first.
However, I've seen some people speculate that Odysseus had closed up the armory and Telemachus opened it to arm himself, forgetting to close it behind him.
I don’t know which interpretation is correct but this one doesn't make as much sense to me simply because of Athena. We know that Athena is helping Telemachus fight, so I think she would tell him "hey, lock the door" if he did forget to do so in his hurry. I also don't think he would need to go to the armory to arm himself. Once again, he is Athena's Warrior of the Mind. "Always be ready for battle so you're never caught off guard" must be like, Warrior 101. I don't think he would walk into a palace full of known hostile entities unarmed. Because that would be stupid. Why was he going to the armory then? Well, "check which weapons are missing to get an idea of what you will be fighting against" seems like an obvious thing to do

Okay so I’ve seen a lot of people being like “oh Eurylochus is not a hypocrite bc he didn’t intentionally sacrifice the crew with Circe like Odysseus did with Scylla”
And while yes it is not the same, uh…….. here’s the problem from my perspective and why I still totally think he’s a hypocrite.
He was the one who had those men under his command. Odysseus gave him a mission and for that mission, Eurylochus was in charge of those guys. Then he LOSES (yes it is his fault, he was responsible for those men) the men to Circe and then runs back to Odysseus and immediately is trying to leave. He in a way is actively choosing to ABANDON those men without even TRYING to attempt a plan to save them. Like he doesn’t even think about it.
Yes Odysseus and the Scylla situation are messed up and it is not the same as Eurylochus and the Circe situation, but sorry guys this man is absolutely still a hypocrite. For his own self preservation he was about to abandon a bunch of men HE LOST to a supposed evil. The only difference is that Ody did it deliberately while Eurylochus’ incompetence caused it.
And here’s the thing, we can argue that Odysseus bc of the Scylla situation is more of a monster than Eury. I’m not even saying the mutiny is not justified. IT ABSOLUTELY WAS. The crew absolutely should have mutinied and Eury was right to challenge Ody.
However, these characters are complex and like yeah, Ody is a monster and a conniving schemer, but he is ultimately just a man trying to get home. And Eury is a fool and a hypocrite that would abandon his men for his mistakes but he is also just a tired man who is starving and suffering.

“you’re quiet today”
it’s because Ody already decided what to do

Whenever I think back on Odysseus Doxxing himself to Polyphemus in Remember Them, I can’t help but feel pity for the man.
Now from an outsiders POV it just seems like Arrogance and pride which isn’t entirely wrong.
But when you look at it from Odysseus POV it’s more than that.
Polites, One of Ody Best (Childhood) Friend who was practically his light just died in an instant. He couldn’t save him, couldn’t warn him. He.just.died.
He couldn’t even process or mourn because his Second in command- his Brother is looking at him in a terrified manner because, oh yeah! He and his men (43?) are in the cave that has a Cyclops that’ll kill them off one by one who is also blocking the exit!
They can’t kill him bc he’s blocking the exit but the Lotus Fruit that Ody snuck in the wine will eventually wear off. So they have to blind him if they’re gonna escape.
But! They realize that there’s more! So now, without alerting any of the cyclops, Odysseus has to get Himself, his men, and the sheep outside the cave as quickly and quietly as possible.
Without any sort of warning however he’s thrusted into Quick Thought by his mentor, Athena, who -with no explanation- tells him that he has to kill the blinded cyclops who would most likely get more men, if not all, killed while also alerting the other Cyclops and most likely Gods and Godesses.
Now to point out. Odysseus is not keen with murder or death and chooses to avoid the most safest options available if it means the safety for his crew.
But at this point. He’s stressed, Terrifired, Tired, Sad-
And most importantly
Angry.
So him basically doxxing himself was literally just Ody saying to Athena “Look! Look! He’s not killing us! Is he? No! He’s not! Murder isn’t the solution to every little thing! Ok! Ok!” Why? Because he’s so tired and just wants to get home.

A trade, you see
Take from you like you took from me.
I cannot begin to explain the absolute CHOKEHOLD Epic: the Musical has on me. Had it on repeat for weeks. Know all the lyrics by heart. Obsessing over songs that aren't even released yet. Save me.
The urge to draw fanart has become impossible to suppress, so here we go. And be warned: there will be more.

avengers spoilers for any lateies like me🧍‍♀️
just finished watching the inifity saga like 5 years too late, and oh my GOD it BROKE ME.
tony was legit my fav, even above ROCKET. even above peter and cap and nebula and strange.
i mean im usually a movie crier, these waterworks be bustin their backs, slaving away 24/7 cause honestly 🧍‍♀️ (im an angry crier too, shocking but unrelated)
anyways UGH. legit sobbing because the way peter and tony both died together, but pepper shoved peter aside to let herself have a moment, like i get it, and i ♥️ u for being so iconic, but you could both hold tony for that last moment, and peter was like a son to him😭😭 (i get ur his wife n all but CMON pepperbabes, lowkey ruined an iconic moment, and the irony of it all. its acc giving the rose jack door triangle)
anyways rant over because they’re all still alive in a happy little stark tower in my delusion!!😇

hey yeah sure come in to my room just step over the strange came-from-completely nowhere au (bruce is taken in by carmine falcone following his parents death) and ignore this new, distressingly similar yet also random au (jason is taken in by two-face following willis' murder). we are very normal here
