•in numerology, 9 energy is about the end of a cycle. you can expect leaving a lot behind in a 9 personal year, intentionally or not. however, 8 is often overlooked as encompassing completion as well. think of the infinity symbol on the world card in tarot. you will wrap up loose ends and karmic cycles in an 8 personal year. 9 is utilizing the lessons learned and reflecting on the past 9 years, non-judgementally and honestly. your spirit guides will be close by.

•speaking of tarot - a life path 16/7 is associated with the tower card. 7 is very spiritual, and 16 challenges you to take on many soul lessons. this is actually a beautiful opportunity to transform over and over and recognizing your power to shed skin.

•a soul urge 7 will forever be students of spirit itself. they long for solitude because, whether they realize it or not, they are receptive to a lot of energy and need the space to listen, process, and analyze. they see synchrinocities as well as chase the unknown, because they are connected to the other side. they also have the willpower to challenge themselves and grow.

•if you're into angel numbers, always pay attention to what's happening when you see one. where are you? are you listening to music, does the song possibly have meaning? do you see this number consistently, or sporadically? this can help you receive more guidance from spirit.

•if i bought a custom license plate, angel number 444 would be on it. it would protect you from road rage or accidents. a black car increases that protection as it's associated with it as well. (edit: idk anything about cars and someone corrected me, this isn’t true. black symbolizes protection in general but black cars are actually more likely to get in accidents.)

•get in the habit of reducing numbers. example, 19 reduces to 10 which reduces to 1. recognizing the core numbers in your daily life or the collective can help you understand energies around you better.

•lastly, be careful to not get analysis paralysis. as someone with anxiety and some ocd behaviors, it can be easy to go past our intuition and acknowledgement of different energies to overload ourselves with it. it's exhausting to interpret messages, we're not meant to crack the code of the universe - we're spiritual beings having a human experience, and being in the present moment is what's most important.

hi angel!! @mythicalmarion tysm for asking about study techniques 🤍 i'm so excited to share my secret methods that helped me maintain perfect grades while still having a dreamy lifestyle + time for self-care!! and thank you for being a fan of my blog, it means everything to me. <3

~ ♡ my non-basic study secrets that actually work ♡ ~

(don't mind the number formatting)

the neural bridging technique this is literally my favorite discovery!! instead of traditional note-taking, i create what i call "neural bridges" between different subjects. for example, when studying both literature + history, i connect historical events with the literature written during that time. i use a special notebook divided into sections where each page has two columns - one for each subject. the connections help you understand both subjects deeper + create stronger memory patterns!!

here's how i do it:

example:

left column: historical event

right column: literary connection

middle: draw connecting lines + add small insights

bottom: write how they influenced each other

the shadow expert method this changed everything for me!! i pretend i'm going to be interviewed as an expert on the topic i'm studying. i create potential interview questions + prepare detailed answers. but here's the twist - i record myself answering these questions in three different ways:

basic explanation (like i'm talking to a friend)

detailed analysis (like i'm teaching a class)

complex discussion (like i'm at a conference)

this forces you to understand the topic from multiple angles + helps you explain concepts in different ways!!

the reverse engineering study system instead of starting with the basics, i begin with the most complex example i can find and work backwards to understand the fundamentals. for example, in calculus, i start with a complicated equation + break it down into smaller parts until i reach the basic concepts.

my process looks like:

find the hardest example in the textbook

list every concept needed to understand it

create a concept map working backwards

study each component separately

rebuild the complex example step by step

the sensory anchoring technique this is seriously game-changing!! i associate different types of information with specific sensory experiences:

theoretical concepts - study while standing

factual information - sitting at my desk

problem-solving - walking slowly

memorization - gentle swaying

review - lying down

your body literally creates muscle memory associated with different types of learning!!

the metacognition mapping strategy i created this method where i track my understanding using what i call "clarity scores":

level 1: can recognize it

level 2: can explain it simply

level 3: can teach it

level 4: can apply it to new situations

level 5: can connect it to other topics

i keep a spreadsheet tracking my clarity levels for each topic + focus my study time on moving everything to level 5!!

the information architecture method instead of linear notes, i create what i call "knowledge buildings":

foundation: basic principles

first floor: key concepts

second floor: applications

top floor: advanced ideas

roof: real-world connections

each "floor" must be solid before moving up + i review from top to bottom weekly!!

the cognitive stamina training this is my absolute secret weapon!! i use a special interval system based on brain wave patterns:

32 minutes of focused study

8 minutes of active recall

16 minutes of teaching the material to my plushies

4 minutes of complete rest

the specific timing helps maintain peak mental performance + prevents study fatigue!!

the synthesis spiral evolution this method literally transformed how i retain information:

create main concept spirals

add branch spirals for subtopics

connect related concepts with colored lines

review by tracing the spiral paths

add new connections each study session

your notes evolve into a beautiful web of knowledge that grows with your understanding!!

these methods might seem different from typical study advice, but they're based on how our brains actually process + store information!! i developed these through lots of research + personal experimentation, and they've helped me maintain perfect grades while still having time for self-care, hobbies + fun!!

hello hi! here are some of my favs! it got long so putting some under the cut

💄 Lipstick on the glass by @cairoscene read for timkon being soft and goofy and disgustingly in love, set in vague future college-y years with amazing core four dynamics too. cair is one of the funniest people to ever exist and we are so blessed that they decided to write some timkon. (also read for my own greatest contribution to literature, the fictional “jerry the void nexus” meme)

🎢 been a number and a name by @wynterstars i had SO MUCH FUN reading this one, a 90s comics-divergent AU where robin and superboy become friends—and crushes—when superboy is pretty new on the scene. feat. lex luthor being terrible, tim staging a rescue operation that at one point involves platform shoes and a blonde wig, spice girls references, and fantastic action sequences. it’s also a series, with an installment focusing on kon & clark, and a currently updating longfic sequel with SO MANY timkon identity shenanigans (my beloved) and kon feelings (also my beloved).

📸 the surveillance series by @smilebackwards i feel like i rec this all the time but it’s because it’s THAT GOOD. a tim-centric AU where tim joins the family late, but is still involved in bat business without the bats realizing. there’s some fun timkon identity shenanigans at the top, and some of my all-time favorite tim characterization (ruthless! lonely! brilliant!) plus a great tim & bruce arc, too.

🦉 Detours by miyaji_08 this is part 2 of a series and i def recommend reading the whole thing! a reverse robins + joker jr au that has lots of trauma and lots of healing, and in part 2 there’s timkon identity shenanigans that’s simultaneously enemies to lovers + And They Were Roommates. tim sure does run a gauntlet of horrors in this series, but it has so much healing and also one of my fav reverse robins concepts i’ve read so far.

📱 unfurl by @burins tim and kon might be dating, and there’s no kryptonian sex ed handy. bruce, being bruce, makes it his business, which means talking to clark and Realizing some things about his own feelings. superbat are billed first here, but i think timkon steal the show—i laughed out loud like five different times reading this. hilarious and sweet on all sides. (and if you like this, check out their timkon road trip fic!)

🌾 A Saturday Evening by malcyon in which tim visits the kent farm for family dinner with kon, feat. very sweet established relationship timkon and fun superfamily dynamics, and it touches on tim’s past grief over kon’s death (and complicated feelings post-undeath).

🤼‍♂️ Sore Loser by @hearteyeshayley kon learns that tim always let him win while sparring, and has to process that. this was such a fun exploration of tim’s prowess as a fighter—one who regularly has to go up against superpowered friends and foes alike—and also tim as a person who is always doing mental calculations about the people around him (in an endearing way). kon, too, got his time to shine and grow, and the ending was so smart and sweet.

🔮 Ascension by Violet_Witch an AU longfic where tim is a witchling and kon is a fallen angel who has (oops) just lost his wings. tim sets out to help get kon’s wings back, and there’s a ticking clock because angel wings are dangerous in the wrong hands—and tim has a big, horrible secret that’s about to come due. the plot/worldbuilding of this was WILDLY cool, and there was a big ol misunderstanding in the middle that had me clawing my face off (in a good way).

🌌 straight on ’til morning by merils kon vs. the terrifying ordeal of growing up, feat. sweet friends-to-lovers timkon and really thoughtful exploration of some of kon’s canon past relationships and their abusive dynamics. i haven’t finished this one yet but it’s been rec’d multiple times and i’m excited to dive back in (and it's recently complete!)—and what i have read so far gave me an amazing sequence of kon and dick interacting and dick’s big brother mode activating in an instant, which is something i now desperately need more of.

📧 aaaand would it even be a reclist by me if i didn’t include send to all by @cairoscene the absolute moment i find myself feeling down i go reread this and boom. i am instantly laughing again. timkon are just one part of a bat grab-bag here but they are so so funny and cute and in-character. maybe one day i’ll compile the timkon-centric sequel that exists in my head but for now i’ll just go reread this for the zillionth time.

Nemuri Kayama was a well-known Pro Hero, also known as the R-Rated Hero, Midnight. With her dark purple hair and striking blue eyes, she would often catch the attention of those around her. She was taller than most of the female Pro-heroes at 6 feet tall. She exuded confidence and strength, making her a fan favorite among the citizens of Japan. She was the number 5 hero but worked as a teacher at U.A. high. Despite her fame and success, there was one thing that Nemuri longed for, love.... She had been in several relationships before, but none of them seemed to work out. She was starting to lose hope of ever finding true love.

Y/N, a 20 year old girl, who has been blind since birth. She lived in a world where quirks were the norm. But for her it was all just darkness. She was able to control the element Earth and it's sub elements like metal, lava and seismic sense as her quirk. Seismic sense was the ability to detect vibrations from the ground. She had learned to deal with her disability even if some people thought it was weird. She had also learned how to use her quirk to help her. Due to her blindness when she was in her hero outfit she would always wear a blindfold.

Y/N was a huge fan of Nemuri even if she couldn't see her. Y/N always listened to Midnight's interviews on the TV. Every time she heard the woman's voice on the TV she'd smile. She knew just by her voice that she was a beautiful soul. So when she got the opportunity to join a tour at U.A. High she immediately took that offer. Although she wasn't able to see with her eyes she could feel with her hands and feet. That's why Y/N never wears shoes because it keeps her from using her Seismic sense.

She was standing in front of U.A. High the next day waiting for the other people who were joining the tour when she heard a loud voice. "You're Y/N correct" a man said and Y/N nodded before holding her hand out. She felt the man's hand grab her's before shaking it. "Pleasure to meet the Blind Bandit I'm All Might by the way" the man said and Y/N's eyes widened in shock.

"REALLY" Y/N shouted and All Might nodded before laughing. "Yes that's me" he said and Y/N smiled before letting go of his hand. "You're an amazing hero especially with a disability like yours" All Might said and Y/N giggles softly. "I mean my quirk helps me get around and thank you. It's nice to hear it coming from a hero who I look up to" Y/N said before she heard footsteps coming up behind her meaning the rest of the tour group is here. "Keep working hard Y/N" All Might whispered out before greeting the others.

Y/N followed the others but stayed behind a bit running her hands along the walls of the high school. All Might stops in front of a shut door. "This is the teachers lounge" he says before the door to the teacher's lounge opens. "Oh All might who are these people" a female voice said and Y/N stopped walking immediately as she recognized the voice from all the interviews she has listened to. "Oh Kayama these few are taking a tour of the school. Did you forget that was today?" All Might asked and Nemuri let out an angelic laugh. "Guess I did.... You don't mind if I tag along do you. There's nothing to do" Nemuri sighed out and Y/N heard All laugh. "Of course not Kayama" All Might said before walking again and the others followed except for Y/N who was just standing there causing Nemuri to look over at her.

"Oh who might you be" Nemuri asked as she walked up to Y/N. "Oh um it's uh Y/N" she said and Nemuri smiled before holding her hand out. "It's a pleasure to meet a cute girl like you the names Nemuri Kayama or better known as Midnight the R- Rated Hero." She said realizing that Y/N isn't shaking her hand before tilting her head to the side. She just smiles before putting her hand down. "So Y/N tell me are you a Hero" Nemuri asked as she began walking beside Y/N. "Yeah I just became one. I'm the hero Blind Bandit" Y/N said and Nemuri's eyes widened in shock before she looked over to see Y/N's eyes were white. "Oh!! You're her" Nemuri shouted out and Y/N nodded. "Well damn for a new Hero you've made a good impression so far. You're gonna be an amazing hero that kids look up to if they haven't already" Nemuri said causing Y/N to blush slightly. "Oh thanks, you're not too bad yourself. I mean you're one of the top heroes after all" Y/N says rambling on and Nemuri laughs at Y/N's rambling and blushing face.

"Come on I'll give you a better tour. You don't want to hear Toshinori keep talking about the history of how this building was built do you" Nemuri whispered out and Y/N giggled. "How will you make the tour better" Y/N said and Nemuri let out a chuckle before smirking. Well I can show you all the secret rooms this school has and even the best spots to look at the scenery" Nemuri said and Y/N thought of you. "Secret Rooms" Y/N asks and Nemuri stopped. "Yes I mean I need to get away from the students and teachers sometimes plus they're amazing" Nemuri said and Y/M hummed. "Okay count me in" Y/N said and Nemuri grinned in excitement. "Perfect come along" Nemuri said before taking Y/N's hand causing Y/N to blush.

Y/N followed Nemuri through the halls of the school as Nemuri showed her all of the secret places that she has found over the past years. "I hope you don't mind me asking but um if you're the number 5 hero why are you teaching at a school instead of going out in the field and fighting villains" Y/N asked as the two sat down in the cafeteria to grab a quick snack from lunch rush. "Well my quirk doesn't really give me much to fight with it only makes people fall asleep" Nemuri said as she took a bite of her food. "That would actually be a total advantage. If there's like a whole group of villains you could easily take them all out by making them pass out" Y/N said and Nemuri let out a hum. "I guess you're right never really thought of that" Nemuri sighed out before she looked at Y/N.

Nemuri was admiring Y/N's features especially her white eyes, freckles and her piercings. "You know you're really beautiful Y/N" Nemuri said and Y/N gulped down her food before choking as she blushed. "T-thanks.... So are you" Y/N muttered out after taking a sip of water. "How do you know, you can't see me" Nemuri says as she continues to watch Y/N. Y/N turned her head to look at Nemuri before smiling. "I don't have to see you to know that you have a beautiful and kind soul" Y/N says and Nemuri blushes slightly at that. "Well aren't you a charmer" Nemuri muttered out as she looked away and Y/N smiled. "I'm just stating the truth" Y/N said and Nemuri looked back at her and smiled softly.

As the two sat there Nemuri got a great idea. "So you know how Valentine's Day is coming up right" Nemuri asked and Y/N nodded her head. "Would you like to be my date for the Valentine's U.A. high party" Nemuri Kayama asked and Y/N's eyes widened in shock before she felt her face heat up. "Oh um w-why me" Y/N questioned and Nemuri giggled before smiling as she placed her hand on top of Y/N's. "Because I think you're absolutely adorable and I also want to get to know you more and like you said to me it's not about how beautiful someone is it's about their kind soul and personality, and I want to know more about your kind soul and personality along with what your favorite things are" Nemuri said and saw Y/N's face turn even more red causing her to smirk. "So what do you say Y/N" Nemuri said as she continued to look at Y/N. "Um sure I guess I'll go with you" Y/N muttered out and Nemuri smirked before squeezing Y/N's hand. "Perfect you won't regret it" Nemuri said before bringing Y/N's hand up to her lips and kissing it causing Y/N to blush even more.

"Should we go finish the tour" Nemuri said before standing up before Y/N nodded and stood up as well. As she turned around she almost tripped over the chair next to her and Nemuri caught her before giggling m "Careful darling, you okay" Nemuri said and Y/N nodded. "Y-yeah sometimes I forget to turn my quirk back on after sitting down and I sometimes run into things or almost trip over things when I stand back up" Y/N said as she smiled in embarrassment. "No need to be embarrassed sweetheart" Nemuri said while touching Y/N's shoulder while smiling.

Y/N was standing in front of U.A. High waiting nervously as she tugged on her tie while waiting for Nemuri to show up when someone stopped beside her. “You look amazing Y/N” Hizashi said before continuing. “Trying to impress a certain dark purple haired woman,” Hizashi teased,causing Y/N’s face to flush. “Oh Hizashi stop teasing her” Y/N heard Nemuri say before she smiled. “Well don't you look gorgeous darling but your tie is a little messed up” Nemuri said before stepping forward and grabbing Y/N’s tie before fixing it. Nemuri was wearing a dark long red dress that had a slit up to her thigh. After Nemuri fixed the tie she tugged on it a little causing a squeak to come out of Y/N’s lips before she saw Y/N’s face heat up. Nemuri chuckled before pulling away. “Shall we go in Darling” Nemuri said and Y/N nodded. Nemuri interlocked her arm with Y/N’s before heading to the school as Hizashi followed behind them.

Nemuri and Y/N entered the school and the students greeted them. Some stared at the two with widened eyes and opened mouths as the two walked by. Although Nemuri was enjoying the attention she only liked one person's attention and that's Y/N even though they just met a month ago. “I can feel their stares” Y/N muttered out and Nemuri giggled softly. “Well of course you can, they're staring at you because you look absolutely stunning in that suit, plus you wear it better than them” Nemuri said, causing Y/N’s face to flush. Nemuri let out a low chuckle before wrapping her arm around Y/N’s waist and pulling her closer.

The two walked into the huge gym and Nemuri greeted some of the other teachers while introducing Y/N to them. “It's a pleasure to finally meet you Y/N, Kayama would not stop talking about you for the past month” Higari said, teasing Nemuri causing both her's and Y/N’s face to flush. “Oh Y/N dear it's nice to see you again” Chiyo said and Y/N smiled. “I would say it's nice to see you again as well Recovery girl but you know I can't see” Y/N said causing Chiyo to laugh before smiling. “Oh dear you always know how to make me laugh let's catch up shall we, you need to tell me all about your little adventure around the world” Chiyo said before grabbing River's hand and dragging her away from Nemuri who just stared dumbfounded. “Looks like the old lady took your date” Hizashi said and Shota slapped him while Nemuri glared at him.

Nemuri watched Y/N and Recovery Girl from across the gym as she sipped on her glass of wine. Nemuri couldn't keep her eyes off of Y/N. Her laugh, her smile, her eyes and her overall beauty. Nemuri was captivated by all of it. Nemuri was still a bit hesitant because this was the first time she actually felt this type of way about someone and she didn't want to ruin it by going too fast. “Kayama, what are you thinking about” someone asked, causing Nemuri to snap out of it before looking over to her two best friends Hizashi and Shouta. “Oh nothing really, don't worry about it” Nemuri said and the two looked at each other before looking back at Nemuri. Hizashi wrapped his arm around Nemuri's shoulder and leaned in. “We know you're lying, come on, is it about Y/N” Hizashi said and Nemuri frowned. Shota titled his head before looking over towards Recovery girl and Y/N. “You're in love with her aren't you” Shota asked and Nemuri's eyes widened in shock as her face flushes. Hizashi smirked at that before squeezing Nemuri's shoulder. “You are” Hizashi shouted and Nemuri glared at him. “Shut up damn it” Nemuri scolded him and he rolled his eyes before letting go of her.

“Seriously though Kayama tell us the truth” Shota said as he leaned against the table. Nemuri sighed before she looked back over to where Y/N was smiling softly at whatever Recovery girl was saying. “Yeah I do, but it's only been a month since we've known each other” Nemuri said before drinking the rest of her wine. “So what it's love at first sight then, there's nothing wrong about that” Hizashi said and Shota rolled his eyes. “I don't think she's worried about that Hizashi” Shota said and Hizashi looked at him. “She's clearly nervous” Shota said and Nemuri gave him a death glare. “I am not” Nemuri growled out causing Shota to smirk. “Then go ask her to dance with you” Shota challenged and Nemuri huffed.

Nemuri made her way across the gym and over to Recovery Girl and Y/N. She stopped and smiled at Recovery Girl. “Sorry to interrupt you two but I'm stealing my date back* Nemuri said before grabbing Y/N’s hand and dragging her to the middle of the gym where others were dancing. “Nemuri what's going on” Y/N said and Nemuri stopped before turning around and looking down at Y/N. “Would you dance with me” Nemuri asked and Y/N frowned. “Nemmie I'm blind remember” Y/N said and Nemuri rolled her eyes before yanking Y/N forward and wrapping one of her arms around her waist. “Oh I remember” Nemuri said before grabbing Y/N’s hand with her free hand. “So what if you're blind, just let me guide you through the dance, I promise to go slow and not let you trip” Nemuri said and Y/N sighed before nodding her head. “Alright I trust you” Y/N said, causing Nemuri to smile widely. “Thank you darling” Nemuri said.

Nemuri had guided Y/N through the dance and the music. Y/N followed every dance step Nemuri was doing with her quirk. “See you're doing an amazing job, you don't need to see to dance sweetheart” Nemuri said as she spun Y/N around before pulling her back against her. “And you're also a really good dancer better than everyone else here” Nemuri continued as she whispered into Y/N’s ear causing Y/N to blush.

“Come on let's get some fresh air” Nemuri whispered to Y/N before grabbing her hand and leading Y/N out of the packed gym and through the halls of the school before outside. After the two stepped out the spring air hit them and Y/N shivered slightly. Nemuri sat down on the steps and helped Y/N sit down as well. “I wish you could see the sky, it's really beautiful tonight” Nemuri said and Y/N smiled as she tilted her head back slightly. “I bet it is but I know for a fact it's not as beautiful as you are” Y/N muttered out before her face flushed slightly. Nemuri blushed slightly as she looked away from Y/N. The two stayed silent for a couple minutes until Y/N spoke up. “Why did you choose me as your date to the Valentine's Party” Y/N asked and Nemuri looked over at her.

Nemuri sighed before stroking her hair through her long dark purple hair. “I guess I should just tell you now” Nemuri said and Y/N tilted her head. “Tell me what” Y/N asked and she heard Nemuri sigh, causing her to reach out to grab Nemuri's hand. “I like you Y/N….. wait no no I don't like you I love you” Nemuri blurted out and Y/N’s eyes widened in shock as her face flushed again but more this time. “W-what “ Y/N stuttered out and Nemuri leaned in closer and cupped Y/N’s face. “I love you Y/N, I've loved you since we first met. I've never felt this way about anyone but you're different in a good way of course. Just something about you had drawn me towards you and I can't seem to get you out of my head” Nemuri admitted and Y/N was shocked causing her to stay quiet. “You don't have to say anything back I just wanted to get it out” Nemuri said before Y/N snapped out of her shock before smiling softly. “I love you too Nemmie” Y/N said and Nemuri let out a sigh of relief. “C-can I kiss you” Nemuri asked and Y/N nodded her head. “Yes” Y/N said and Nemuri leaned in and closed the gap between them and kissing her.

they watch a lot of wonder woman speeches and things. the existence of the amazons and their culture utterly fascinates jack. time capsule culture is an archaeologists wet dream.

through their studies and travels and learning about the world together, jack and janet fall deeply, deeply in love. they move to gotham because jack doesnt technically exist as a person and they can get away with it there. they get married. they have a baby boy. they name him tim

time passes. they all get older, jack and janet go on an expedition, their plane goes down, there's a villain who isn't a racist caricature and janet dies and batman is too late to save her, and jack is grievously injured

without janet, this new world of superheroes loses its luster. Jack wants no part of it anymore, he remembers the good old days where people died normally, in accidents and regular murders and to illness

so when he finds out his son is one of the heroes in the world, he almost kills batman

time passes. jack gets to know his son without this secret in the way, through tim's eyes he is once again reopened to the world of heroes, in a different way than janet did it, but his eyes are opened again regardless.

he understands now, that this world of heroes means that regular, ordinary people like his son can save untold numbers of lives in a way they couldn't in his old world.

and then he dies. rip.

Back with the milk (kinda), time to talk about how Niffty fails at being comedic relief.

Niffty is most certainly a character in Hazbin Hotel. She's the main character who has the least amount of screentime in the show. Unsurprising considering the number of characters that were introduced in this mess of a season alone, which is another topic I'll get into on a different day, but today I'll be talking about a possibly non-canon aspect of Niffty. That being she's the comedic relief character.

I'm not entirely sure where this even came from because I haven't seen any statements of Niffty being the comedic relief character from the writers themselves. I've mostly seen people in the fanbase claim she is, but since I'm talking about how she fails in that aspect, I wouldn't mind seeing the proof of the writers themselves saying it.

Comedic relief characters are usually characters who are comedic to relieve the tension of an earlier scene.

This is a pretty great example of a comedic relief character in action.

After a tense moment of Star Lord promising to kill Gamora if she ever gets captured by Thanos and a possible final kiss between the two, Drax chews loudly on Zarg Nuts in a pretty unexpected way. While delivering some pretty hilarious lines and movements afterwards. This is what a comedic relief character is. They relieve the tension of a previous scene, giving the audience something to laugh at.

And this is where Niffty fails for the most part because of two reasons. The first one is that she doesn't have much screentime. As I said before, she's likely the main character in Hazbin Hotel with the least amount of screentime, and because of that, she doesn't get any prevalent moments where she relieves tension. Is she comedic in some scenes she's featured in? Sure, but just being comedic doesn't always mean a character lightens the mood.

The second reason is that I'm not entirely sure if the writers know how to use comedic relief characters or if they know what comedic relief is. Whenever Niffty does something funny, it's usually in a part of the episode where there's no tension, or she, in fact, makes things worse. Which is the opposite of relief.

For instance, when Niffty stabs through Adam. It was a pretty prevalent moment for Niffty, but it wasn't a tense moment in the slightest because Adam had already been defeated but wasn't killed because Charlie stopped Lucifer from continuing to beat him to a bloody pulp. The situation was already solved by then.

An example of my second reasoning is when she unintentionally causes problems for Angel Dust in Episode 6. Being under the influence, she runs toward Valentino, letting Angel Dust and Valentino confront each other. Though this did show that Angel Dust has gotten stronger mentally against Valentino, it still caused tension, which is something a comedic relief character isn't supposed to do.

So to pretty much make Niffty more of a comedic relief character, they just need to give her some more damn screentime and actually learn how to place her in a scene where she can ease the tension. In short, they should make her a comedic relief character. Again, I'm not entirely sure if the "comedic relief" thing was just something the fandom came up with or something that the writers actually said. Regardless, her actions just aren't consistent with what she's intended to be, but that could be fixed in the future.

As for..me, uh, I'm back, but not really. This blog was something of a reminder that I'm alive because I've been radio silent for a couple of weeks. Still in college doing college work, but I do have some blogs in drafting. I have seen the latest Helluva Boss teaser, but I don't care about that right now. Is Victor British? Australian? He used luv so I'm trying to formulate a voice for him in my head

Good question; I have no idea. I flipflop a lot with how I hear him, so I don't wanna set anything too firmly in stone. Something vaguely boston-accented could fit, given his inspiration, but eh. Aussie fits just as well. He's been to different places around the world while on the run from angels (you can't get too picky about where you mail yourself if it means not being turned inanimate) so there's any number of explanations about where he picked up lingo. He may have learned how to play from mimics who are rockers from Britain, so that could be something he picked up over there. For all I know though, he could even be hispanic. Beyond his fictional backstory and memories, he keeps details about his actual physical origin to himself.

For context, mimics can come into being in different parts of the world, absorb media from another culture elsewhere, and kinda wind up as weird mashups of those cultures. So actually explaining this stuff is weird and tricky. It's why Hex speaks fluent japanese in her normal voice but has a dub voice that sounds like a funimation voice actor when speaking english.

No conversing as we seen previously. Junho is like square is greater than me.

No leaving the room. And, they are under surveillance. The circle workers are above the players but beneath everyone else in the pecking order.

Minyeo is being a dramatic diva. She is flatout screaming. She and Gihun should have a screaming/annoying the workers contest.

Who gets a square manager to appear the fastest wins.

The most dramatic 🤣 girlfailure queen ever.

Saebyoek coming along with Minyeo.

They are watched by other workers yet who watches the watchers.

Now the triangle guard is now regretting his life choices. It would be fun they say. Get to a wear a costume and cosplay they say. I gave up the job in retail for this....?

Like Saebyoek being the straight man to Minyeo's....Minyeoness is what makes the bathroom scene works.

The abrupt turn around of the guard drives me to laughter 😃.

The 2-AziraCrow Theory

Maybe I should be calling this my head canon, and not even give it theory status.

But I’ll press on nevertheless. This theory had a seed planted when I saw this quote mentioned at the end of one of Sendarya’s videos in which she mentioned the Theologica Germanica concept of the soul having two halves.

The soul has two eyes When one makes an effort Without the other It shan't get very far, When they help each other They accomplish much. [William of St-Thierry]

Some time later, I began to see the pattern, a theme, that seemed to emphasize the concept of twos.

After noticing these, I started looking for other repeating, seemingly frequent ideas.

These ideas just keep crashing and bouncing and ricocheting around in my head. They just won’t coalesce into anything coherent. My apologies for the chaos and disorganization.

Theme – Two, Half, Split There are references everywhere, in dialog and visually, to “2”s, “halves”, and “splits”. Far too many to list, but examples include putting the lesser demons on half rations; being shown a demon’s split-tongue three different times, Azi & Crowley performing half a miracle each; Shax asking Crowley about the two yellow(!) lights on the boiler; the twin passions of Bildad; Crowley leads the humans out of the bookshop 2x2; even Uriel makes two complete revolutions pacing around Michael in the scene before Sq and Muriel arrive in E1. Honestly, the list is extensive. I suppose, however, that it could be referring to two of any number of things.

Theme – Inside/Outside Again, we have dialog and visuals that emphasize the idea of things being inside or outside, but especially inside. Azi to Crowley in the smitten scene “Why don’t you wait inside? You like to wait inside?” Nina’s “A lot of people in this head…”; And we have so many scenes of someone looking inside or out a window. I have quite a list in another document on my computer.

Theme – Spies This one starts right off with the spy sitting down at the wrong bench, next to Crowley. Shax recruits Crowley to try and find out what’s going on in the Up. Beez recruits Crowley to help find Gabriel, etc. Then there’s Jane Austen, master spy. The three zombies spying on them to get Furfur’s proof and we could even say that those go back to S1E3, 1941, “…half-witted Nazi spies running about London…” And, I also really, really don’t trust Michael. Could they be a spy for hell in heaven? But I don’t have any real evidence for that. Just a distrust of Michael.

Theme – “Bit”s Another word used throughout the season, and maybe even in S1. Well, we definitely have the final S1 scene with Azi saying to Crowley “…if you weren’t, at heart, just a little bit, a good person.” Searching the S2 transcript comes up with ~25-ish uses of the word. Is that a lot? Or normal? I have nothing to compare to it, nor base it on. So although Azi is not Crowley’s “bit on the side”, I thought, maybe Crowley is sometimes Azi’s “bit on the inside”.

Theme – Point Another well-used word throughout the script, appearing ~24 times. This is trickier, though, because “point” can have a number of reasons – the reason or conclusion, indicating direction, or the sharp point, of, say, a pin? I suspect that all are somehow applicable in this season.

But just looking at the last one, it could be a call-back to S1 and how many angels, or demons, can dance on the head of a pin. Where we learn that Crowley can make himself small enough to speed through a telephone wire.

I always vaguely thought Crowley’s line to Mrs Sandwich about whether or not she had her hatpin was a bit of an odd, maybe throw-away line and Mrs Sandwich responds so quickly and charmingly that the line gets passed over. But again, is it a reminder of what angels and demons are capable of? Or does this line mean something else I’m just not aware of?

Theme – Small Crowley Not as fully developed, and maybe not as obvious, but in E1 on the bench, for example, after the spy leaves, we see “normal-sized” Crowley immediately followed by seeing a “small” Crowley in Shax’s compact mirror (and he’s looking out of the mirror, see above) when she arrives. In the resurrection minisode, we see another “small” Crowley, when he’s off his head on laudanum.

Theme – “Invisible” Crowley As far as I’ve gotten to date, there are two definite scenes where I think Crowley is actually inside Azi’s head (or whatever) and not physically there.

First, when they leave GMCoGMD with the Eccles cakes in E1. As soon as they are outside the shop, Azi barely looks at Crowley, and Maggie doesn’t seem to see him, that brief conversation is only between Azi and Maggie. Crowley only “talks” to Azi once they’ve started walking again.

Second, and the bigger one, is in E5 when Azi heads out to solicit the shopkeepers to go to the meeting. Crowley asks “Can I watch?” and just follows Azi around and again, Azi barely looks at him; the shopkeepers appear to act as if they are only talking to one person, and Crowley is completely quiet around them, just hanging around in the background.

I also noticed that in these cases Crowley is on Azi’s right, the opposite of where we usually see him. (Oh, an exception is Mrs Cheng, where he’s on Azi’s left again, and he acknowledges Mrs Cheng when they leave, implying to me that Mrs Cheng can see him.) There could be more instances where we see this behavior, but I haven’t studied every episode yet to look for it.

Theme – S2 posters Just looking at these two for now. Azi and Crowley with one pair of wings, one white one black, behind them. I’ve seen the line “…and they aren’t talking…” I’m not quite convinced yet that they aren't talking. I think it could mean they aren’t talking face-to-face, physically. And I optimistically see their positioning as that they’ve still got each other’s back. Maybe I’m in denial, but I just don’t see the “break-up” as extensive as many seem to.

The other poster is this one of Azi and Crowley, each with the other in their heads/thoughts. Crowley is “seeing” Azi from a memory, from 1941. But Azi is seeing a current Crowley, draped across the bookshop chair. Also, I noted that the [double!] rings that surround them are linked.

My way-out-there idea, then, is that Azi and Crowley have “carved out” space for a duplicate but also somehow real, bookshop (a high-fidelity copy?) within Azi, within his mind, his brain, his soul, I don’t know. And he can enter and leave it as needed. It could also be a copy of Azi’s memories or something.

But it’s also someplace Crowley can visit, a place he can go in and out of (like the telephone lines in S1) as needed. I wonder, then, does Crowley in the end “split” himself, so that a “bit” of himself can go up to heaven with Azi? Referring back to Jane Austen, brandy smuggler – is Azi smuggling Crowley into heaven? All season, Azi usually has his hands closed, perhaps to imply he’s carrying and/or hiding something.

With this theory, it gets complicated, though, figuring out which “reality” we’re looking at. The external original(?) world? Azi’s copy in his head? Or a memory? Or none of the above and this is all nonsense.

Multiple sets of memories, possibly getting mixed together, could help account for the inconsistencies in flashbacks, the apparent “continuity errors” in various scenes, the changing POV.

We’ve seen the physical appearance swap. We’ve seen Azi’s physical possession of Madame Tracy in which they could both control the body. What I am considering is neither of those.

This is just a start. I’ll keep working on it unless someone already has some convincing evidence that clearly refutes the idea.

Roses for You (14)

This had all started when you noticed a link between a book on the language of flowers you had borrowed from Satan’s room and the current lessons from your Seductive Speechcraft and Magical Potions classes.

In Seductive Speechcraft, you had just reached a section on the effectiveness of spells using non-verbal communication: enchanting glances, dance, and offerings. Meanwhile, in Magical Potions, the professor had been discussing the significance of using specific quantities when concocting potions; they had spent fifteen minutes just providing examples – including adding petals from two different flowers when using them for a love spell.

You couldn’t resist discussing the use of flower language – utilizing the type, color, and quantity of the flowers – to specify the magical intent of an offering as a form of seductive speechcraft. Asmo and Solomon listened intently. The same idea popped into both of their minds, and before you knew it, everyone was looking into color and number meanings, searching for the perfect combination to convey their feelings for you and try to put you under their spell. The only rule for their little competition to charm you? Only roses are allowed.

When Raphael asked you to run an errand with him after school, you couldn’t turn him down. It wasn’t often that he asked you to accompany him. You didn’t think to ask where you were going – as long as you were with him, it didn’t matter. When you arrived at a local florist and plant nursery, you turned to Raphael curiously.

“Oh, no. Please tell me you didn’t kill Luke’s houseplant. He just got that last week.” Your shoulders slumped imagining Luke’s disappointed face.

Raphael scoffed, “Now, what makes you think I would have killed it?”

“When’s the last time you got in trouble for making spears rain down?”

“Fffvvrr days ago,” he mumbled.

“What was that, angel?”

“Five days ago.” Raphael rolled his eyes.

“Oh! I thought you were going to say four. Good boy.” You grinned at him.

Raphael felt his face burn and decided to get back on topic. “Anyway, no, I didn’t kill his plant. I’m just here to pick up an order.”

You both carefully maneuvered through the shop, avoiding the more nefarious plants. Your eyes wandered around while Raphael got his order from the pick-up counter. That mindlessness and awe was fortunate, too. It meant that you hadn’t heard the demon at the counter’s comment: “Huh. So, some angels have a human kink, too. Interesting. Angels like sharin’, right?”

Raphael sighed and aggressively shoved the signed pick-up form back towards the demon. He wasn’t going to be shopping there again. Or, at least, he wasn’t going to take you with him if he did. Not with how that guy was looking at you. Raphael had learned how to pick up on what people meant – even if he didn’t react or look like he understood them.

“Time to go, MC.” Raphael took your arm suddenly as you were inspecting the shop. He pulled you out of your trance and outside before you could register what he had come to pick up.

Safely away from the gaze of that demon, Raphael stopped dragging you along and turned to face you. He pushed a bouquet of green roses into the thin space between your bodies, holding it in both of his hands. “These are for you.”

“You got me flowers?”

“I figured if everyone else was going to give you roses, it would be mean if I didn’t get some for you. You don’t have to keep them if you don’t want to, but I put some thought into it. Although, I’m sure the others did, too.”

“What?! Of course I’m going to keep them! Thank you, Raphael. Really. I’ll put them in my room when I get home.”

Raphael smiled and let out a laugh as he started walking in the direction of your place. “Your room must look like a mini flower shop by now.”

You rushed to catch up with him, almost bumping into his shoulder in the process. “Yeah, it kind of does, but I like it. It’s hard remembering to tend to them, but I’m managing. I’ll probably dry the roses as they start to wilt – unless Solomon wants to use them in a spell or something. But maybe it’s rude to let Solomon use a gift from someone else?”

“Maybe.” Raphael shrugged slightly.

In the quiet moments between chatting with Raphael about whatever popped into your minds, you studied the bouquet he had given you. Counting fourteen roses, a smile snuck its way onto your face. Fourteen was a less common choice used to tell someone that you’re proud of them and that they should be proud of themselves. Green roses had a variety of meanings ranging from life, growth, peace, stability, or even jealousy – although the latter seemed unlikely to you. Typically, green was used to encourage and congratulate a person. You weren’t sure why he was proud of you but knowing that he was made you happy. Before you knew it, Raphael had walked you up to your front steps. You felt disappointed to be leaving him.

“You know, other than Luke, you’re the only one who didn’t give me a romantic bouquet.” You smiled. It was so sweet of Raphael. He didn’t always show you kindness so clearly – although, he did once gift you a rather intricate paper crow that he learned how to make with Luke.

“Why should I? This was my chance to tell you something special. It’s important that you know how proud I am of your growth. You’ve accomplished so much, and you deserve to take pride in that. If I wanted to tell you how much I desire you, I could just say it or show you.”

“Do you . . .want me?”

Raphael inched closer until you could feel his breath on your face. His deep blue eyes, usually cold and blank, were so pretty. There was a hint of emotion in them now. “May I?”

He scanned your face for a sign of consent, but you gave him one better and brought your lips to his. Raphael pulled your body flush against his as if he needed the pressure of your embrace to survive. His lips parted, and he wasted no time teasing you with his tongue. The sudden intensity he brought almost made you drop the roses in your hand, but you tightened your grip and kissed him back until all you could hear was a blend of wet mouth noises, panting, and Raphael’s gentle, needy whining. When he finally pulled back and let you catch your breath, his pink-tinted cheeks enamored you.

“See?” Raphael exhaled, his breath grazing your lips. “What did that tell you?”

“That you’re pent up?” you teased with a grin, although you weren’t lying, either.

Raphael smiled briefly before he frowned again. His eyes took on a dark, seductive glaze. “Take care of it, then.”

S1E3 – Hard Times Write Up P5 - Friday (One day to the end of the World) up to "the break up"

So, here we are, more than halfway through the episode yet only just getting to the credits. That really threw me the first time I watched this episode! I do think it’s a very clever way to handle the format of this episode though – you couldn’t exactly break the flow of the historical scenes to make way for the credits, and those scenes definitely don’t belong nestled in amongst the main storyline, particularly as all of those scenes were additional material written specifically for the show (as described by Neil in the introduction to the Script Book – this was do with ensuring consistency for seeing Crowley and Aziraphale in every episode of the season). Despite the fact that the storyline covered in these scenes is newly created, the information we learn from them is crucial to understanding the motives, emotions, and thought processes that the angel and demon show throughout the show, and I genuinely don’t think the rest of the episodes, or our relationship with the two main characters, would have been the same without them.

I also think the crazy-fast montage of scenes that we see immediately following the credits is a great way of bringing us back to the main storyline of the show, picking up right where we left off at the end of episode 2, which in fairness does seem like an awfully long time ago – after all, we’ve just been through a whistle-stop tour of 6000 years of history.

The entire sequence takes 5 seconds and appears to use a different image for every frame of film, which means it consists of approximately 130 different tableaus, in chronological order of their appearance in the season. Some editor had fun doing that I’m sure.

Knowing that I should be looking at any instances of writing whenever it’s used, I paused my rewatch of this episode at the point where we’re shown Aziraphale’s little planning board. Whilst most of it makes perfect sense (a map, notes about Adam’s name, relevant prophecy numbers), there is also a sheet of paper covered in writing that, to me at least is completely ineligible:

If anybody knows what this writing is, or even if it’s just made-up scribblings to look cool, I’d love to know the answer.

The conversation between Adam and Anathema has always struck me as slightly odd. I mean, it’s nice that Adam stops to ask if she’s OK (when she clearly is not), but there doesn’t appear to be any recognition from either party that they actually met just the day before. And forgive me for imposing modern-day suppositions on to work that was written a few decades previously, but a fully grown adult inviting a kid into their house for something to drink just feels creepy to me. We know she’s perfectly fine to be around though so we’ll let it go. What I do like about the conversation is that there’s an echoing of the exchange that Crowley and Aziraphale shared as they were leaving Tadfield Manor (about angels not being occult but ethereal) but this time the labels in contention are “witch” and “occultist”.

ADAM: Are you a witch? ANATHEMA: No, I’m an occultist.

It’s a nice nod to the notion that words have power. Both parties are describing the same idea but choosing what connotations they want to associate with it. And what’s really important to note on that matter is that changing Anathema’s label completely changes Adam’s opinion of her immediately.

Side note: anybody else find the juxtaposition of some manky old thumbscrews right next to a colourful birthday candle to be a beautifully accurate summation for what an oblivious shitshow the Witchfinder’s Army really is?

I find the choice of location for Crowley’s meeting with Shadwell to be an interesting one. The café they meet in proudly declares itself to be the “Best Café in Wandsworth”. Wandsworth is a long way from Crouch End, where we know Shadwell lives, and Mayfair, which is where the book states Crowley’s flat is located. And just so we’re covering some of the other possibilities, it’s nowhere near Soho and Aziraphale hasn’t set up the meeting at the 3rd rendezvous point yet for it to be a precursor location for the meeting on the bandstand. Why Wandsworth?

There are a couple of Easter Eggs in Crowley’s newspaper here, and perhaps one on the TV playing in the background. Let’s start with the newspaper. It’s no surprise that Crowley would be reading the Infernal Times, but who knew that demons would consider a bit of hiking for their holidays:

It’s a bit hard to make out, but I’m pretty sure that the headline reads something about walking trails. And it’s a pretty pathetic sounding front page headline:

In case you can’t read it (again, it difficult to make out), it says “SOUL MUSIC: Catalogue your collection of Souls?”. As a headline it doesn’t make a great deal of sense, but I think this is probably a reference to Crowley’s soul music collection mentioned in the book.

He was very proud of his collection. It had taken him ages to put together. This was real Soul Music. James Brown wasn’t in it.

The last of the headlines I can actually make out is the following:

Again, if you can’t quite make it out, this one describes some latest research that suggests exorcisms are on the rise in Wales. Just who has done the research, and why specifically concentrating on Wales, remains a mystery. Now let’s have a look at that TV in the corner of the room:

This was really tricky to get a clipping of something that made sense but the footage on the screen looks like it’s set in Puritan times. The guy on the right in this image is even wearing a costume reminiscent of Adultery Pulsifer’s clothes in the previous episode, so perhaps this a witchfinder? I couldn’t get anything concrete, but I think it’s probably a little Easter Egg nonetheless.

It’s nice that we have an acknowledgement of Shadwell’s involvement with Crowley going back decades during the conversation where we discover the demon is sponsoring the Witchfinder’s Army. We know, from the 1967 historical scene, that Crowley has been dealing with this dense oaf for 50 years by this point. I suppose in a show where character recognition, or rather the lack of it (see previous scene with Adam and Anathema, or even the use of the same actors to play different characters as we see in season 2) happens regularly, it was probably necessary to script something that explicitly states that these two characters are aware of the “resemblance” that Crowley bears to someone Shadwell knew many years previously.

Moving back to Anathema and Adam now (this episode does fair rattle through the sub-plot development doesn’t it?!). What’s with the whale obsession please? This isn’t the first time we hear about how whales have big brains (Crowley already raised this point when he was very drunk in episode 1), and it won’t be the last. I mean, I’m not denying that they do have huge brains, I just didn’t realise it was a thing that so many people thought about. I wonder if it’s one of those questions you supposedly can ask men about to get an unexpected response, like how often they think about ancient Rome? Regardless, the whale comment is just one of a bunch of foreshadowing Clues in this scene for later on.

They’ve got it all covered – ley lines, nuclear power stations, the Kraken, Atlantis, and Tibet, all mentioned or seen in a very short space of time. There’s even mention of the destruction of the Brazilian rainforests, something Adam tries to resolve in the book.

Up in Heaven, which looks like an incredibly boring place in my opinion, Aziraphale is busy telling his superiors things they’re either not interested in or already know. I don’t know whether Uriel’s line “what’s happening” is a little reference to Jesus Christ Superstar (the song “What’s the Buzz” uses this phrase repeatedly throughout), but if it is it would effectively put Aziraphale in the role of Jesus, with the archangels being disciples. Not exactly fitting with canon, so maybe this is a little Easter Egg. Or maybe it’s nothing at all.

Whilst I was doing this write up, I noticed that Aziraphale is the only one of the angels to be wearing a patterned garment – his trademark tartan. It’s a nice way to subtly distinguish him, or more precisely his relationship with the concept of free will, from the other angels, and whilst we know he has been exercising his own free will for centuries, his addition of a non-standard item of clothing to angelic attire would suggest he is becoming more comfortable with his stance. Looking back through the historical scenes (including the ones from season 2 we are yet to see), I think the tartan first makes it appearance in 1862, but I’m happy to be corrected on that.

It's a good job that the archangels are a somewhat dense bunch because Aziraphale does not do a good job of hiding when he’s hiding something here. He has a tendency to overact when it comes to the discussion around Crowley, and the pause he puts in before his non-committal answer to Gabriel’s questioning is almost painful.

It should be obvious to them that he’s covering something up but luckily they’re totally oblivious and Aziraphale actually manages to buy himself some time. Credit to him here – he went to Heaven with preconceived ideas of how this conversation was going and he not only manages to adapt to the deviation from his expectations, he also considers what this means, how it changes his plans, comes up with a plan for how to achieve his new objective, and executes that plan very convincingly. There’s a lot of talk about how Aziraphale can often be pretty dense at times, but this little scene should tell you that that’s only really true when it comes to Crowley – outside of the blinkers of friendship and love, this is one quick-thinking and intelligent angel.

We’ve had a couple of mentions of Crowley being “fallen” before now in the show, but I think this is the first time we get any clues as to why that might have been. And surprisingly for such an important piece of information, it’s delivered in an almost nonchalant way.

There was war in Heaven, long before the Earth was created. Crowley and the rest were cast out. Not nothing was ever really settled.

We already knew that Crowley wasn’t the only fallen angel (see Hastur’s comments in episode 2) but this is the first mention of him being involved in all-out war against Heaven. Hastur talks about rebelling in the previous episode, so we can only assume that these are two puzzle pieces that fit together. I don’t know whether season 3 will bring us a fuller answer for Crowley’s fall, but I hope so. I feel like it’s a huge part of his history and who he is; as a fan it would be nice to be able to put it all together for an even better understanding of his character.

Gabriel’s comments about the war and Armageddon make for some interesting discussion points. He says that even though the fallen angels were cast out of Heaven, nothing was settled. What exactly were they hoping would be the outcome of that war? If it was the destruction of those who rebelled, why only cast them out? Why not destroy them at that point? And why exactly does Earth have to get tied up in all of this? His parting line about Earth’s destruction offers little to the debate about what Earth’s role is in the whole Heaven/Hell war, only that Heaven is determined to destroy it, regardless.

The Earth isn’t going to just end itself, you know.

Charming. And unfortunately for Aziraphale, his lack of enthusiasm for another war has triggered the suspicion of the archangels – it’s interesting that he was able to cover his intentions through his talk of Crowley and poorly disguised buying for time but what really makes them think he can’t be trusted is that he clearly isn’t fully on their side when it comes to war.

There is a line in the book about anybody who meets Aziraphale believing him to be “gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide”. I can see how this might have been a little difficult to get into a TV show, but I think the double entendre delivered by the following exchange probably serves as a suitable alternative:

And if it wasn’t clear what Shadwell’s thoughts on Aziraphale were, calling him a “great southern pansy can probably fill in the blanks for you.

Remember what I was saying about Aziraphale not being dense earlier? Well this is one of those moments when he proves the exact opposite. He genuinely appears to believe all the stories Shadwell has fed him about the soldiers of the Witchfinder’s Army. I suspect he simply can’t bear to think that somebody would lie to him for financial gain, something which Crowley appeared to be fully conscious of when he dismissed Shadwell’s presentation of the ledger in the café earlier on. Whatever the angel’s reasons for this gullibility, we as the audience can now see that both of our hero pair are not only funding the Witchfinder Army (for the paltry combined sum of £500 per year according to the Script Book) but making use of their services, and hiding the organisation from the other for fear of reprimand. How very Shakespearian.

There are a few little things I’d like to show appreciation for in the Famine scene. First off, and I did have to look this up, but the word “sable” can be defined as “black”. So Famine’s chosen name consists of 2 words that describe black. Given that one of War’s alternative names is Red (or Carmine, which means crimson, as well as her chosen surname of Zingiber, which is another name for ginger – a word you might use to describe a red-headed person), this is hardly surprising. Next up. I love how beautiful the plate of non-existent food in the fine dining restaurant is. I have eaten at a Michelin starred restaurant and I can assure you, that isn’t far off the mark at all.

Next little Easter Egg – there’s a picture of the Bentley, albeit in red, on the wall of the burger joint that Famine and his assistant go to:

And how many times have we heard/read terms and conditions that sound very similar (scratch that, there are some phrases that are word-for-word perfect) to the ones for Chow for any/all new health product that comes to market with the sole purpose of making money out of gullible/vulnerable people. Neil really nailed the wording and delivery in the script there. Elvis’s presence in the restaurant is a cute bit of humour too, and halfway makes up for one of the lines in the script that didn’t make it to the final cut but made me guffaw like a loon – it’s Death’s response to a question about the year of Elvis’s death from the quiz machine:

I DON’T CARE WHAT IT SAYS. I NEVER LAID A FINGER ON HIM.

Lastly, I’d like to think there’s another instance of script mirroring in the use of the word Chow here. Cast your mind back, all the way to episode 1…

LIGUR: Wassat mean, “Ciao”? HASTUR: It’s Italian. It means “food”.

Except to anyone actually eating Sable’s prized invention Chow isn’t food at all, but eating it might result in you having to say “goodbye” to a lot of things like “hair. And skin tone. And, if you ate enough of it long enough, vital signs.” Beautiful word play.

Side note for the next scene: the Witchfinder Manual actually has a price on the cover (I can’t quite make out what it is, but it’s “old” money), which means at some point that sack of crap was actually sold to people.

One last tiny note: Crowley tells Aziraphale to meet him at the 3rd alternative rendezvous. Not the 3rd rendezvous or the alternative rendezvous. And Aziraphale can’t remember which location it maps to, though he can list off three possibilities, much to Crowley’s annoyance. I’d quite like to know how many formally named rendezvous locations they have, and why they think that referring to them in “code” prevents their respective superiors from knowing they’re meeting in the first place.

I am going to call it on this part of the write up at this point. I had intended for this part to be the last one for this episode, but I’m already at nearly 3000 words and I haven’t covered the “break-up” scene yet. I think I’m partly just putting off the inevitable by not including it here because I find the last scene of this episode very difficult to watch. Nevertheless, I hope you’ll forgive me. I’d hope I can give that scene the attention it deserves if I split it out into its own write up. So for now… comments, questions, discussion, all welcome, as always.

How does aging work in Obey Me?

This is my personal headcanon for how aging works in the Devildom and Celestial Realm.

When an angel or demon is "born" they don't have an initial humanoid form. They start as an amorphous ball of light or darkness (I SWEAR I read this in a Devilgram but I also could have totally made that up). As these spirits gain a sense of self and identity, they eventually take a shape that pleases them, most often humanoid. This shift from light or darkness into a solid figure is considered their 'birth'. This is why Beel and Belphie being considered twins is unusual. It's not rare for spirits to exist at the same time but it is rare to transition into physical form together at the same moment.

Age from that point on is not based on the passage of time but rather how developed their power is. More powerful demons often gain control over their power more quickly, and so spend very little time appearing as children. The growth from child to adolescent may take decades of Earth time or centuries depending on a number of factors. This is also why the brothers refer to themselves as older or younger, despite the fact that their ranking is primarily power based.

When Angels or Demons reach a certain outward age, they usually choose to linger where they feel most physically comfortable, whether that means the vibe they give off, physical characteristics and abilities, or the age at which they feel the most attractive or imposing.

For example, Lucifer chooses an older visage than his brothers for several reasons. One, he is older than them in the sense his spirit has existed longer. Two, it makes him feel more refined and at the right moments, imposing. Three, he likes to make sure his brothers note how many grey hairs they've given him.

This also explains how Satan's birth worked. When he split from Lucifer and fell with him, he went through several changes very quickly. Even though he was a new spirit, he carried with him an echo of Lucifer's power and experience which enabled him to gain control very quickly and take on his chosen form. If you want for fun HC moments however, you can believe like I do that his first couple months in the castle with the brothers were spent shifting from different ages without much control as he struggled to get a handle on existing. They would be reading a pouty baby Satan stories one night then dealing with a full grown tantrum the next.

I like this theory because it solves several narrative problems for me:

1.The issue of how time passes. I already believe that time passes differently in the spiritual realms than on Earth, but this method of 'aging' allows for some leeway in how we interpret ages and times in the story. Us going back in time in Nightbringing and finding brothers who take the same form makes sense if their physical form isn't entirely based on the passage of time.

2. It makes their birth order relevant in both terms of power and how they as spiritual beings interpret their ages.

3. It gives you an excuse to write all sorts of fics where the boys are kiddos and Lucifer or Mammon (or any bigger bro) is taking care of them. Or excuse to write Satan as a kiddo even if he was considered 'full grown' at birth. That's just plain fun.

4. It explains Luke. He's still learning how to develop his powers, which is why his been trusted to Simeon. As he continues to expand his capabilities, he'll eventually be able to age out of his current childlike form, but it's a passage that may take a long time.

5. It gives you freedom to interpret timeline without getting lost in details.

ANYWAY these are just my thoughts based on hints in the narrative and my own personal theories.
