I have So Many thoughts about Scum Villain I have so many feelings I am overflowing with Them I am drowning in it I am dying
Shen Qingqiu telling everyone (including himself!) that he didn’t mourn for Binghe, okay? He did not mourn for him! He just repaired his first sword and buried it in his back garden so he could sit by it for hours at a time! He just felt so guilty that he concocted an entire elaborate ploy to off himself but still live so that Luo Binghe could get revenge on him! He just stopped eating because he didn’t have to eat in the first place and food tastes bland when it’s not made by Binghe! He called out Binghe’s name and compared Gongyi Xiao to Binghe and thought about Binghe at least once every three sentences, but he was Not mourning! He was just vibing, okay, you don’t get it-
The extra where Shen Qingqiu sees Luo Binghe during the five years he was dead. And Luo Binghe is working diligently and always busy and makes food everyday like he’s waiting for Shen Qingqiu to wake up. And he says he doesn’t know how much longer he can take it, but he takes it for years and would’ve taken it for even longer if he had to. And he holds Shen Qingqiu’s body to feed him qi and Shen Qingqiu recognizes it as the way he held Luo Binghe when he got hurt. And even though loterally everyone thought Luo Binghe was doing awful things to Shen Qingqiu’s body, all evidence points to him just holding it. Luo Binghe never touched Shen Qingqiu inappropriately and he was so sad and he was so broken.
The part where Luo Binghe says “Theoretically, how would someone go about showing another person that they have strong feelings for them?”
Mobei-jun: “Have you tried beating him up three times a day?”
Luo Binghe: “Mobei-jun, you are uninvited from answering.”
Shang Qinghua thinking about Peerless Cucumber everytime he gets insulted and getting nostalgic about it, but then pretending he only “just remembered” the username when he actually meets Shen Qingqiu and finds out he’s the one Shang Qinghua has been fondly remembering for literal years. You only remembered just barely, huh, Shang Qinghua? Yeah, okay, sure…
Shen Qingqiu was purposefully pretending to be stupid so that Liu Qingge would beat up his own Bai Zhan Peak disciples. Shen Qingqiu finds out they were bullying Luo Binghe and vows to get revenge, he was purposefully playing dumb so that Liu Qingge would volunteer someone to come up and then he’d go, “whoop, haha, silly me, you were right, Shidi :)”
Shang Qinghua comes back from a trip and everyone is talking about how weird Shen Qingqiu is acting and he’s like “What? What happened? How is he acting strange?” and Yue Qingyuan replies “He had a peaceful conversation with me for two hours” and Shang Qinghua immediately goes “He’s cursed, he’s definitely cursed, is he dying??”
Everyone else: “Shen-shixiong is being nice to us…”
Yue Qingyuan: “Is there any way to get Shen-shidi back to normal?”
Everyone else, internally: “Maybe, but I’m not looking for it.”
The entire Holy Mausoleum section. It’s stuck with me for two years. I love all of it. From beginning to end. The entire section, the moment Shen Qingqiu wakes up in a coffin to the moment Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe get out. All of it. Every single thing that happens is comedy gold and I will never get over it.
But of course there are highlights.
Shen Qingqiu, knocking on a coffin he can’t open, trying to hide from the things wandering around trying to kill him: “Excuse me, may I come in?”
Tianlang-jun, inside that coffin: “Sure.”
Shen Qingqiu just casually carting his boy Binghe around. Hanging out. Trying not to die. Getting stabbed multiple times and having plants grow out of his legs. The usual.
The Old Huan Hua Palace Master being a human stick. At first, Shen Qingqiu is like “omg Binghe is insane.” Then, after the Old Palace Master acts creepy towards Binghe and kind of implies creepiness about Binghe’s mom, Shen Qingqiu goes: “No, wait, yeah, this guy deserves this and worse.”
Shen Qingqiu: sits up in his coffin
Meng Mo: “I can’t help you wake up Luo Binghe.”
Shen Qingqiu: lays back down in his coffin
Meng Mo: “What are you- Are you going back to sleep?!”
Shen Qingqiu calling Zhuzhi-lang “Xizhi-lang” and Zhuzhi-lang tripping over his own feet then just sighing and letting him do whatever
Tianlang-jun: “Why do you know so much about the Holy Mausoleum?”
Shen Qingqiu:
Shen Qingqiu: “LOOK a DISTRACTION!”
Luo Binghe: “Why do you know so much about the Holy Mausoleum?”
Shen Qingqiu: “I read about it in one of Qing Jing Peak’s books.”
Luo Binghe, previous head disciple who has all of the books that have ever been on Qing Jing Peak memorised: “I see. I don’t recall that one.”
Shen Qingqiu:
Shen Qingqiu: “Oh hey look, a distraction-“
Tianlang-jun asking Shen Qingqiu to help him up and then his arm popping off.
Tianlang-jun just generally being the weirdest fucking guy. Tries to be a wingman for his nephew. Helped conspire with his nephew to bring a dead guy back to life. Has been stuck under a mountain and says it was for ten years, despite the fact that it was almost certainly longer than that. Sings the song about Shen Qingqiu fucking his son and then bluntly asks “Did you fuck my son?” Says “I was looking forward to meeting you” specifically because of the song about Shen Qingqiu fucking his son.
Tianlang-jun, just in general, is one of my favourite parts of Scum Villain. Like, he’s so… he’s my poor little meow meow. He is my scrungly. He literally falls apart and is just kind of like “Again? Dang.” A bunch of cultivators show up to thwart him and he’s like “I expected more of you.” He realizes that Shen Qingqiu, Zhuzhi-lang, and Luo Binghe were all in the same bed together and is like “Does Shen Qingqiu always need two others?” He walks in on that scene, only seeing Zhuzhi-lang and Shen Qingqiu, and says “Continue, please, don’t let me interrupt.” Finds out his wifey wasn’t apart of the plot to trap him under the mountain and even tried to save him and immediately melts like the marshmallow-hearted maiden he is.
Pre-trapped-under-a-mountain Tianlang-jun is a treat too. Finds his nephew and immediately says “You’re so ugly. Have a bunch of soldiers and land. Bye.” Meets Su Xiyan and becomes insufferable. “Zhuzhi-lang, am I ugly? Zhuzhi-lang, don’t you think my face is worth more than two silver pieces? Zhuzhi-lang, human women are so different than what I’ve read. Zhuzhi-lang, be honest, am I obnoxious?” He literally tries to barter over how attractive his face is and is legitimately pleased when Su Xiyan says it’s worth a gold coin. Zhuzhi-lang describes him as being the sugar baby and Su Xiyan being his sugar daddy, but Tianlang-jun not only doesn’t mind, he even seems to enjoy it. Zhuzhi-lang describes him as a pure-hearted maiden falling for a roguish cultivator. Zhuzhi-lang has the terrible realization that, in his own metaphor, he’s the handmaiden who follows her innocent lady around trying to keep her out of trouble.
My favourite part will always be the reveal though. The reveal that, after a whole novel dreading it, Luo Binghe is the antagonist. Luo Binghe purposefully led these cultivators and monks and priests to Tianlang-jun and let them all think Tianlang-jun was the one fuelling Xin Mo. Tianlang-jun says “I can’t even fuel Zhuzhi-lang’s human form, how could I fuel Xin Mo?” and everyone feels like they were thrust under cold water. Luo Binghe stands there and smiles and adjusts his sleeves and doesn’t care because none of these cultivators can touch him, most of them were taken out during the fight with Tianlang-jun, and Luo Binghe has basically already won.
He says that he hates Shen Qingqiu choosing others over him. Shen Qingqiu always chooses someone or something else. Shen Qingqiu always leaves when he asks him to stay. Luo Binnghe says that he’s going to make sure Shen Qingqiu has no other choice. If Luo Binghe isn’t his first choice, then Binghe will become his only choice. He’s willing to destroy the human realm and the demon realm both so that Shen Qingqiu will only be able to choose him.
One of the monks is like “That’s kind of fucked up. You’re just going to make him hate you.”
Luo Binghe: “Shizun can hate me all he wants, as long as he never leaves. And he won’t be able to leave.”
Luo Binghe is the ultimate villain. He is literally unstoppable. He is almost totally unkillable. He’s the final boss, but he’s a boss who’s always scripted to win. He’s more powerful than all of them combined and he’s gone actually insane because he can’t control Xin Mo. Xin Mo is feeding all his insecurities and Luo Binhe decided that the cure was to tie Shen Qingqiu to him with a leash too tight to escape.
He is absolutely terrifying, in this moment. He’s insane. He’s outright telling everyone that he’s destroying everything they love because if he doesn’t, Shen Qingqiu might choose one of them over him.
He’s - so - cool!
Luo Binghe is always cool, he’s so badass, but this moment just cements how absolutely unhinged he is!! He is insane!! He is manipulative and silver-tongued and adaptable!! He is grabbing the narrative with both hands and forcing it to be the way he wants it to be! He’s so cool, he’s so very cool, and I get chills when I read this part, he’s too cool!!
And I’ve already made a long post about how meaningful it is that Shen Qingqiu ultimately does choose Luo Binghe. Even out of a world-ending event, he still chooses Luo Binghe. Shen Qingqiu only didn’t choose him before because he didn’t know that was an option. For the rest of the novel and all the extras that take place post-canon, he seeks out Binghe. He’s the sticky one.
He says he hurt Luo Binghe’s feelings by saying he didn’t want to sleep in his bed and he’s upset because he was going to give in if Binghe just pushed a bit further! He thinks Binghe is in danger and takes him to Qing Jing Peak and tells everyone not to bully him and tells Luo Binghe that he can beat up the Bai Zhan Peak disciples as much as he wants, as long as they don’t die. He patches him up and just generally sticks to him. In the extra where Binghe shrinks, he takes baby Binghe everywhere. He holds his hand and he’s obsessed with how cute he is and he can’t get over how cute he is and he wants to show off to everyone else how cute he is. He’s having the time of his life, and only gets upset when everyone thinks baby Binghe is his child because Luo Binghe is at least eight, when would he have had him? And he’s a man, that too.
(Ming Fan: “I just assumed Luo Binghe was a demon and demons could do what they wanted.”)
Shen Qingqiu travels everywhere with Binghe and teases Binghe and likes admiring Binghe because Binghe is so handsome and charming and wonderful and-
The succubus extra where he goes to a succubus’ cave with Liu Qingge and is too flustered to look at the naked women everywhere and is very impressed by Liu Qingge’s disinterest in all of them. Gets his fortune read because he thought it might be fun and is like “…yeah, okay, sure, like this is true” and it turns out to be completely true. Thinks Madam Meiyin is weird because she never even officially joined Binghe’s harem, what a weirdo, who wouldn’t want to join Binghe’s harem? Pushes Liu Qingge into a pond to help him get over sex pollen.
Shen Qingqiu is such a madlad. He transmigrates and is like “I’m not going to be stupid and panic and make everyone suspicious of me 🙄” then becomes the most suspicious man on the planet by treating his martial siblings and disciples slightly better than dirt. He’s as obsessed with Luo Binghe as Binghe is with him, but pretends (poorly) that he isn’t. Agrees to do what Binghe wants to do while admitting that Binghe is definitely manipulating him, but Binghe is so cute, how can he say no? Thinks his little white lotus disciple is as pure as a maiden while Luo Binghe is over there desperately trying not to get a boner.
Shen Qingqiu never figures out that Luo Binghe messed up excersizes on purpose as an excuse to cling to him. It doesn’t even cross his mind. He thinks Luo Binghe was just clumsy. He thinks it’s a bit weird, since Luo Binghe is so good as everything else, but figures it’s just something Binghe was going through. Literally never crosses his mind that it was purposeful. Doesn’t even pop up as an option. He remains completely oblivious to that, even after Luo Binghe literally tells him he’s been horny for him since he was a disciple. Shen Qingqiu just does not realize.
I also really like MoShang, I promise, I find their dynamic to be honestly quite sweet, especially since Mobei-jun is just a spoiled princess who isn’t used to having to ask for what he wants. Luo Binghe and Mobei-jun respect each other and might even be a bit fond of each other, but good God, Mobei-jun, do not give me romantic advice, I swear. Shang Qinghua is constantly like “Cucumber-bro is so stupid, how can he not notice Binghe’s feelings?” and Mobei-jun is behind him slowly counting to five thousand in an attempt not to punch anymore holes through the walls. Great dynamic, 10/10, at least Shen Qingqiu eventually realizes that Binghe’s into him, Shang Qinghua doesn’t get the hint.
I like Yue Qingyuan being like “My sword is my life. Quite literally, it is my life. Accidentally combined my life force in my sword, whoops, now I lose a few years everytime I pull my sword out ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯”
Qi Qingqi is constantly like “Shen Qingqiu, the most annoying man I know. I would sell him for a half-eaten, unsalted tortilla chip. I hate this man’s guts. He is staring at my darling prized disciple but not even in a horny way. He is obsessed with Luo Binghe and never stops bragging about him. He acts like he’s delicate just to get out of having to ride a horse. He’s so lame, so cringe, a loser, the worst.” And near the end she’s like “I guess Shen-shixiong isn’t actually the absolute worst man ever- What do you mean he chose to date the heavenly demon disciple who not only caused him to die, but also threatened to destroy the entire world and everyone on it?! Shen Qingqiu is the stupidest piece of shit man I swear I’m going to murder him with my bare hands and no body will blame me, they’ll probably thank me-“
Mu Qingfang: “Shen-shixiong is being… kind to me? Shen-shixiong… smiled? Shen-shixiong is… being the most reckless man alive, oh no, Shen-shixiong, no!”
Liu Qingge, hanging up pictures of Shen Qingqiu: “I hate Shen Qingqiu.”
All of Luo Binghe’s wives are in sorry states. Well, all of them aside from Ning Yingying, who is living her best life as number two Shizun supporter (number one is Luo Binghe), and Liu Mingyan, who is also living her best life, but by writing porn about her brother’s closest (read: only) friend and a demon. Sha Hualing is in constant suffering because Luo Binghe is a tyrant and also had the gall to ask her for advice on getting into another man’s pants. The Little Palace Mistress was certainly very rude, but Luo Binghe threw her emotional support whip into acid. That’s a bit rude. The others are either dead or Luo Binghe just never notices him because he’s too distracted trying to woo Shen Qingqiu.
Ning Yingying and Liu Mingyan got off lucky. Ning Yingying, especially, really drew the luckiest lot. She went from an airhead who accidentally said things that got her buddy in trouble to a talented cultivator who purposefully says things that get her into fights. Love her picking fights with anyone who badmouths her Shizun. She tried so hard to share the number 1 Shizun fan spot with Luo Binghe, but probably decided that she didn’t want to die and backed off. She apologizes to Luo Binghe because she knows he likes to be the only one to clean Shen Qingqiu’s house. The bestest girl.
Speaking of Bing-ge, I love him. That should be obvious (I wrote a whole fic just to let him be happy) but I really like him. I like when he says “Is this about last time we met? It was on me, Shizun, I swear…” like he didn’t rip Shen Qingqiu’s arm off. I like when he’s fucking pissed that he’s losing and furious that it’s to this weaker, insignificant version of himself who is happy and in love and Shen Qingqiu cares about him and he got to taste that, just briefly, just barely he got to taste how it felt to be loved by Shen Qingqiu, only for a day, he got to feel an ounce of the easy affection and love that didn’t have to lead to sex and that was protective of him instead of expecting him to be protective of them. Shen Qingqiu didn’t expect him to be the strong one, didn’t expect him to be the powerful demon lord, had no expectations at all aside from expecting affection.
And he says “Come with me” like he’s begging for it. He doesn’t understand. He feels like it’s unfair that he didn’t get a loving Shizun. He wants that love. He wants to be chosen. And, ultimately, he leaves, but it just left an impact on me. The way he expected to find a catch but only found that Shen Qingqiu was willing to die for him.
Anyway, all that said, Scum Villain’s pretty okay. I only lie awake thinking about it occasionally. It’s alright.

I can’t stop thinking about my Fragmented SQH AU so here I go:
—
Obviously Shang Qinghua is not fine. He tries to be, really. The story is over, his son is finally happy with the love of his life and the world didn’t end. Even his ex-husband (they never got a divorce, Qinghua technically died, does it count as one?) is now free! And his cute and socially awkward King is trying his best to treat him like a friend instead of a servant.
Still, Qinghua yearns.
Sometimes, when no one is looking, he touches his flat stomach and remembers his pregnancy when he lived as Su Xiyan. A strange, lovely feeling to carry someone inside you. Unforgettable. He misses those days, but not so much. Too stressful, always running and hiding in order to protect her little one.
Other days he gets lost in the memories of his life as a washerwoman. Sad, grey days were those. Binghe was her little sunshine, the only reason she kept waking up everyday until her frail body could no more.
He remembers Binghe’s first words, his first steps. He even remembers the things he used to whisper to calm him down after a bad nightmare, kissing his tears away. Back then she used to dream for a better live, hoping to live long enough to see her baby boy grow up and marry someone kind.
He got to see Binghe grow up, yes, but only from afar. Qinghua had to restrain himself many times from killing Shen Qingqiu pre transmigration. Seeing his son cry with no way to comfort him was torture. Or so he thought. Because living right now so close to him and only being victim of his hatred is way worse.
“The traitor.”
“That rat.”
“Pathetic—“
It was too much.
He did deserve it. Qinghua did nothing to stop the stop fate (why was Shen Yuan allowed to change the rules when he was forced to hurt his son?) but it still hurt so much.
So it was no surprise when a few tears rolled down his face after a specially mean comment. A few demons from the court snickered, but Binghe just looks at him with a mixed of confusion and surprise, recognizing the tears as real and not the fake kind Qinghua usually shed around Mobei. He doesn’t feel guilt, because if it isn’t Shizun he does not care, but is still odd to witness.
Shang Qinghua just bows and leaves. He cries the whole way to his rooms. It’s depressing, he knows, but he must endure this. This is his penance, right? Now he must face it.
He tries not to stare at Binghe too much after that or even speak in his presence, but it only draws his attention. Binghe seems to attack him more often as if trying to test something, curious to see his reaction. Why? Qinghua doesn’t know, but it can’t be good. His love for his son does not blind him of his cruelty.
‘Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry—‘
Why did his little sunshine had to become such a fearful and cruel emperor? Why couldn’t he remain small, and cute and kind? Why in the world did he write that cursed story?
He sighs giving Binghe a quick glance. The young demon looks tense. Qinghua is sure his bad mood is mostly for Shen Qingqiu’s absence, who left a few days ago for serious sect business (yeah, right— you just wanted a break from your clingy husband bro) and hasn’t returned yet. On top of that the last few meetings at court has been terribly stressful. So many demons playing mind games can be exhausting.
Qinghua even after feeling hurt by Binghe feels the need to comfort him. To tell him his doing great and will find a solution. What can he say? The love of a mother (should he say father? He is currently in man’s body, but he took care of Binghe as a woman—) never fades.
It’s a silly idea, but Qinghua sneaks into the kitchen to prepare a little snack. Steamed millet buns. Very cheap and easy to make. He only needed millet flour (which was even cheaper than rice and widely cultivated in poor areas) and water. If they happen to be lucky enough to have more ingredients available then Qinghua added salt or a bit of onions. It used to be Binghe’s favorite— well, he said “everything mama makes is Bing-Bing favorite!”
Ah, he used to be so cute.
He finishes making the buns and brings him back to the court room. The other demon lords are gone and Binghe looks like he has a migraine. Qinghua approaches carefully trying to be brave.
“Junshang…” he calls softly. Before he can say something more Binghe opens his like he’s searching for something and sniffs the air. Then he finally looks at him, well, the tray in his hands.
“What is that?”
“Ah… steamed millet buns, my lord. I— I made them… for you?” Binghe just keeps staring at him as if he had grown another head. Qinghua clears his throat. “This servant thought Junshang should eat something after a long day.”
Binghe looks at the tray, then at him, then the tray again and he seems like his about to reject the offer. Qinghua holds his breath, already preparing for the burning sensation of rejection. Instead Binghe surprises him by saying:
“Bring it here.”
The peak lord nods and feels so excited he almost trips in his way to the throne. He offers the buns and Binghe stares at them with mild disgust (maybe because his treacherous shishu made them) and after long consideration he finally takes one.
He gives it a sniff before taking a big bite.
Binghe’s eyes open wide and for a brief moment they seem to shine. He keeps eating one after the other and Qinghua feels his heart fill with warmth at the sight remembering when Binghe was 3 years old and tried the buns for the first time.
“I’m glad Junshang enjoyed the buns.” Said the cultivator with a small but honest smile.
Binghe seems to finally realize what he had done and cleans the crumbs with his sleeve.
“Shang… shishu,” Wow, really having a hard time respecting your elders, huh, mister? “… made this on his own?”
“This one did!” He says proudly. “If Junshang desires this servant can always prepare more“ Qinghua offers because he knows his son enough to know he won’t ask for them again even if he loved them.
“… Do as you wish.” Oh, someone has been spending some time with his King. Doesn’t matter.
This is a good sign, right? First positive interaction with his son since forever— oh! Maybe he can prepare him some congee and mantuo next time? Yes! He can’t wait!
…
// Binghe’s angrily eating buns the next day in his room, crying: I miss my mom (˃̣̣̥ヘ˂̣̣̥) stupid rat—

Royal blue - Shang Qinghua (moshang?)
Shang Qinghua was a mere child when he met his king.
Let's just rephrase that
Shang Qinghua was stuck on his own world, on a mere child's body that was destined to be killed before he hit 30 because he was just traitor scum and his king just got bored of him.
He was now seeing the man that will once kill him, and he was very amazed by the natural beauty that Shang Qinghua just stayed there, very in awe because of what he later explained as "seeing his OC for the first time"
He was so in awe that he didn't realize when all of his mates were finally dead and he had to pledge for his own life.
-------------
Even after more than 7 years working as a spy for his king, Shang Qinghua never stopped realizing that his king was dazzling, amazingly beautiful like those amazing royal blue flowers that bloomed in the "summer" in the eastern garden that Shang Qinghua secretly tended to everyday, from the moment he realizes that the lilac leafs could, once again, be seen from his office window until the stunning royal blue flowers were finally ready to be buried by their caregiver while he said the last goodbye.
Qinghua was surrounded by people but still very alone, the flowers reminded him so much of his king that he befriended the plant. He talked to it everyday, sometimes he started singing to it, because when he was little, his older sister told him that singing to plants helped them grow. That did not work with the succulent plant that lived around two weeks with this pair of siblings, but it looked like that did work with this rare plant friend.

Hello! My first short fic :D
It's actually not moshang but Shang Qinghua does say that Mobei-jun is very beautiful

[Kinktober 2021: Deepthroating (18+)]
BingQiu + MoShang | Scum Villain Self-Saving System 28-10-2021
Day 28: H̷u̷m̷a̷n̷ ̷F̷o̷u̷r̷n̷i̷t̷u̷r̷e̷ / S̷c̷a̷t̷ / [Deepthroating & Facesitting]
Mobei-jun and Luo Binghe always want to prove how good they are to their respective husband. This time is all about making them feel good.
====
Neither Shang Qinghua nor Shen Yuan would be able to tell how exactly they ended up in this situation. It was all supposed to be a nice dinner at Luo Binghe place. Something rather ordinary really.
So how did they both end up naked on the large couch, both their husbands kneeling on the ground between their spread legs.
It probably had all started when they had both started to argue about who could please the other better with food, then went on like this with other banal everyday things.
Sy was rather amused as this was pretty normal with lbh, while sqh was happy to see mbj getting this heated up over such little things.
Then came the idea of not pleasing their husband well in bed and neither could accept being worse than the other, they needed to show it.
And now they were naked on the couch, embarrassingly moaning under the attention. Sy did try to hold in his voice, feeling a bit self-conscious about his own moan while sqh didn't want to be the only one feeling the silence with moan.
But this was apparently no good as both men went harder, taking moans as wins.
Sy had fingers tangled up in lbh dark locks, watching as the man was taking him all the way into his throat. He couldn't help a moan when he felt him contract it, humming and sending vibrations into his dick. Truly lbh had learned a lot from the first time they ever did anything together, at least he had a husband who was keen on making him feel good too.
Sqh was in no better state, gripping for dear life on the back cushion of the couch as he was kneeling with his ass out, mbj eating him out while stroking and teasing his cock just the way he knew would make him feel good.
It was all about pleasuring their husbands, even if they were painfully hard from hearing them moan like this for them, they wouldn’t stop until one of them came first.
Sqh ended up taking a look towards sy as the man was trying to quiet his moan with his hand again, slipping a bit towards him as he lost his balance a bit.
He would have never thought he’d find his friend this sexy and cute did he always look like this when he was getting pleasured? It sure was a nice sight.
Before he could really register what he was doing, sqh was kissing sy, pulling him even more towards him to the point where he was now laying more on the couch. It was pretty nice, once the surprise had left sy, he realised his friend was not a bad kisser, on the contrary. They really enjoyed kissing each other like this when their husband seemed to focus only on one thing.
“a-yuan” lbh whined when he realised that his husband was now kissing with his best friend and pretty eagerly at that. It still didn’t stop them, sqh seemingly going even more at it.
Mbj wanted to be displeased too, but he knew sy was not out there to get his husband. Plus, sqh was clearly enjoying it and something in mbj also wanted to make sure his husband would always get what he needed.
So, instead, lbh went back to deepthroating sy, enjoying the feeling of his tight contracting under his hands, the way his body was starting to tremble in the way he knew meant sy was getting closer to the edge.
And so he decided to continue, taking him effortlessly deep into his throat.
Sy louder moan when he finally came was eaten by sqh who never left his mouth, only stopping his make-out session when it was all getting too much and he needed air too.
hey were laying on the couch, nearly atop each other, panting and slowly catching their breath.
This sure had been rather new to them, but they wouldn’t be against trying again in the future. Sometimes it was fun having the support and comfort of someone going through the same thing as you do.
“We are not done,” lbh said as he pulled sy a bit closer to his, cheek laying on his still a bit shaky tight, “We have to see who can make his husband cum the most” he smirks. To this mbj nodded, smiling a bit too.
Maybe they could be a bit jealous of them kissing so freely like this, maybe they could continue to show they were better and not the ones kissing their husband.
====
(I feel like I put the trope a bit more on the side, I got carried away by my sudden interest in cumplane. Still was fun to write, it would look good in a fanart tho, wish I could draw right now)

This is probably the best thing I’ve seen in a while omg
(Im imagining this is modern au fyi)
yue Qingyuan is the type of kid to unironically have a shrine dedicated to the “evil head master” (as the other students have nicknamed sj), he's constantly making flower bouquets and trying to give them to sj but sj just does not care unless its from sy so yqy is heartbroken almost everyday but has hope! (He really shouldn't), he likes to do any work given by sj and likes to do calligraphy, he's the first one with a pen license, he also has type 1 diabetes (the genetical kind) so has to take insulin at set times, he finds this sorta embarrassing though so only teachers know about it, not like the others kids would u derstand nor care outside of maybe the nicer ones being more aware (my take on how to implement something that effects his life long term, appears in children and although greatly effects ones life, isn't something that gets you hospitalised (usually), can occasionally be overlooked or if well managed not noticed unless you know of it and not always properly understood in how it can affect someone, as reference to xuan su's (his swords) influence on his life)
Liu qingge is randomly attacking strangers via biting and baby punches and tried to attack a bird once and failed miserably, despite his immediate response to attack first think later, the think later seems present in his usual day to day as he spends anytime not attacking (which is as time goes on seemingly less, a sign he's getting along with his classmates, well done lqg!) just staring off into nothing whilst his 18 month old baby sister is kept on one of those baby leashes as she keeps making googly eyes at the two teachers whenever they're together (she knows), also lqg's favorite hobby is fighting Luo binghe and stealing insects from mu qingfan to give to shen yuan
Shang qinghua is playing with a Rubik’s cube as this random private school rich kid keeps breaking into the school to seemingly mess with him?? Sy isnt all that worried about sqh as it’s clearly a crush this rich kid has though he does wish this kid could express it better but sy is in fact very concerned on how this 6-7 year old kid keeps on breaking into an elementary school (this is mbj if you couldn’t tell lmao)
Mu qingfan is collecting insects, bugs, fish, frogs, birds?, a snake?! "MQF PUT THAT SNAKE DOWN"- shen yuan on a Monday at 8 am, mqf also likes to read and seems to keep feeding random plants to the small animals to see what happens (these aren't so random he's reading about different medical drugs and testing out different concoctions on unassuming critters, many have suffered when will this child let them free) and he's secretly plotting to end lqg for stealing his victi- COUGH COUGH- Friends
Qi qingqi is running a girls club and has attempted to break into headmaster shen jiu’s office many, many, many times - sj will never admit to being almost impressed by her dedication, she also keeps selling girls magazines for £5 to the other kids, sy is slowly losing it, sj, again, will never admit that its kinda hot seeing the usually unbothered sy so confused and so disheveled
Wei qingwei is playing with anything he can play pretend or create things with; action figures, doll houses, construction toys and his favorite legos, and his other favorite the all mighty plastic sword given to him by his never seen by any one but wqw, wqw's father, he also keeps using it to aggravate Liu qingge and then runs crying to mu qingfan who gives him a blank stare and a very good for a child but he's still a child so quite obviously a fake smile at which wqw cries for real
Luo binghe is playing with the fake kitchens and brings in food he and his mum made at home to which is a literal luxery for anyone but him or shen yuan to eat, the only ones lucky enough to have tried it so far have been Wei qingwei as a means to get Liu qingge to leave him alone while sy plays with him and Sqh to get his weird boyfriend to stop breaking in as its stressing sy out, this fails and Luo binghe swore to never feed Sqh his and his mother's food ever again
Shen yuan is slowly losing his mind as how adorable they are and sweethearts they are to him, they are also so very much children who are very much as strange as children are in a way sy continuously seems to spontaneously forget (compartmentalizing) only to be shocked when he sees the chaos, he reads shitty novels on his phone during any break he can get
Shen jiu finds all the children to be annoying little nightmares who steal his husbands time (even though that's literally their job to care for the kids) he tends to spend his time on random puzzle games on his phone such as candy crush, Sudoku etc, his favorite time though is when he and sy can go walking home together and watch more of sy's shitty tv shows whilst snuggled on the couch when they get home that his sister got home into years ago, yet another thing sj will never admit out loud, for sj actions shout so much louder then words
What if i am thinking about modern kindergarten or like elementary school AU
Shen Yuan is just a very nice teacher there and all the kids adore him. LBH will try making him little snacks to try, LQG picks flowers or finds insects to show off, basically all the kids are sweethearts to him!
They hate principal Shen Jiu though! He’s mean and glares at Shen Yuan! He’s always ordering the man around! Stealing his lunch!
It’s one awful day when LBH sees them at the store together, realizing they are married.
YQY is a kid too but he’s like the one guy obsessed with that mean teacher, fights for Shen Jiu’s public opinion like it’s his job.
Shen Jiu’s office is covered with things from him, and Shen Yuan is like ‘ah he never gets me things!’ And Shen Jiu is just like ‘everyone else does? Back off.’
YQY takes the marriage the hardest, gone for a week sick and cries when he sees Shen Yuan

Snow on the beach is MOSHANG
"And it's like snow at the beach
Weird but fucking beautiful”
Shang qinghua being so upbeat and lively in the northern dessert where its freezing and cool that it just doesn’t make sense but its beautifu-
I will now explain how snow on the beach was made for moshang-
This doesn’t make sense and was concocted by my lightheaded brain.
------------ O ------------ O ------------ O ------------
“One night a few moons ago I
Saw flecks of what could've been lights
But it might just have been you
Passing by unbeknownst to me”
Is about how SQH sees MBJ, like how when you look at somebody you love, adore etc. OR JUST SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL THAT FLOWER ARE EVERYWHERE OR LIKE EVERYTHING IS FILTERED OUT OF YOUR BRAIN EXCEPT THEIR FACE. In this case, the snowflakes in the bg while sqh was looking at mbj turned into lights o reflected it to like light in his vision which made mbj stand out more in sqh eyes.
“Life is emotionally abusive
And time can't stop me quite like you did
And my flight was awful, thanks for asking
I'm unglued - thanks to you”
“Life is emotionally abusive
The line about life being abusive reflects his 1st and 2nd life like how life didn’t treat him that well in the 1st and now in the 2nd he’s stuck in his own novel as a cannon fodder and on top of that as the traitor that would betray his ideal lover.
And time can't stop me quite like you did
The line about how time can’t stop me quite like you did is how even though I his 2nd life the system was making all kinds of demands and in my opinion, I think sqh just didn’t hesitate to do it cause his life was on the line or do/find a way that can help him skip a mission or future hurdles or something.
This line resonates with the scene where all sqh needed to do is bash this rock and kill mbj to avoid his future death and betrayals etc. But unlike the past things or missions where he didn’t even hesitate to do it, he stopped. He stopped because this was the sole character he created that was for him. That was not influenced by his fans or the urge to please the audience. This was the only character he didn’t change from beginning to end. The character he made as his ideal lover.
And my flight was awful, thanks for asking
It can refer to how his life as an author was awful like deadlines and writing stuff, he didn’t want to please the readers. It can also refer to his flight from his 1st life to the 2nd like how he was just a broke tired author trying to make a living to a canon fodder in his sect where he has to follow the system or die. And the word flight is used because Airplane shooting towards the sky-
I'm unglued - thanks to you
Is how mbj’s influence on sqh which led to him not being glued 100% to the system anymore. Like how he learned to defy the system or don’t follow its orders entirely because of mbj. He has someone he can depend on now and he isn’t alone anymore.
Stars by the pocketful
You wanting me
Tonight
Feels impossible
But it's comin' down, no sound, it's all around
How sqh feel about mbj and him thinking mbj will never reciprocate his feelings.
This scene feels like what I once saw on a screen
I searched 'aurora borealis green'
I've never seen
Someone lit from within
Blurring out my periphery
When sqh was researching about how the northern dessert will turn out like he saw a pic of the aurora borealis green and just unconsciously wrote about how mbj is just as beautiful or a figure that you just can’t take your eyes off due to being mesmerized or amazement- headcanons are accidentally slipping in-
Sqh being with mbj for most of his life, he can detect or at least know when mbj’s happy or really really happy and it’s not because of his look cause in other people’s eyes mbj wears the same face everyday with a frown. So like sqh can feel it when mbj’s happy. Like a gut feeling, a feeling that mbj is happy within that icy façade of his, like someone lit from within.
My smile is like I won a contest
And to hide that would be so dishonest
Sqh’s genuine smile. A smile he often wears when he sees mbj in settings where no work was needed, nothing to be afraid of, just him and mbj having a conversation or anything that mbj does that make sqh smile. For example, mbj giving him a coat or an accessory. Mbj asking him about his day or smt.
And it's fine to fake it 'til you make it
Til you do
Til it's true
How sqh often acts out in a way to please everyone of make it easily to excuse his behavior. Like how sqh might deny him caring about mbj then by the time he realizes he does care about him he has already grabbed a sword and jumped to save his king.
I can't speak, afraid to jinx it
I don't even dare to wish it
Mbj treating sqh very well and a time where it seems it’s the right time to tell mbj his feelings, but he doesn’t because he’s afraid he’s going to jinx it. And how he dares not to even wish for a thing cause just being beside his king is already a blessing.
But your eyes are flying saucers
From another planet
Now I'm all for you like Janet
Can this be a real thing, can it?
How mbj looks at sqh and it just radiates so much love for him and he feels like they’re both so in love with each other that sqh starts to question whether this love of their can be real. Him and mbj being together can be a real thing.
Are we falling like
Snow at the beach
How they’re falling for each other and how’s its weird cause of their power dynamics and statuses but its beautiful at the same time.

“This king barely knows, Qinghua,” Mobei Jun says apropos of nothing. He says it like it’s a revelation only in muted tones.
“My King?” Shang Qinghua asks. “What do you mean? Of course, you know me.”
Mobei Jun shakes his head.
“This king only ever sees Qinghua in An Ding’s or the North’s colors, but he does not know if those are Qinghua’s favorites. Qinghua likes floral teas but this king does not know which he prefers to drink and when.”
Shang Qinghua wears a variety of blues and muted greens but Mobei Jun doesn’t know if he truly likes them or because it is the colors that are expected of him to don. Mobei Jun knows Qinghua prefers jasmine, chrysanthemum, and osmanthus teas best but he doesn’t know when he likes to drink which at what time and occasion.
“What keeps Qinghua up at night? What lullabies used to sing him to sleep?”
Shang Qinghua has a habit of staying up late well until the early hours of the morning. He says it’s because he has a lot of work but sometimes, when he’s managed to coax him to turn in early, Mobei Jun would catch him awake even as he lay comfortably tucked in his arms.
“This king—” he hesitates. “This king does not know about the first person Qinghua has ever loved, why he stopped loving them, or if and why he still does.”
Shang Qinghua stays silent throughout his questions and when he looks up, Mobei Jun seems that he is smiling and his eyes are fond.
“Let’s see,” Shang Qinghua says putting down his brush pouting in thought.
Mobei Jun wants to kiss him.
“My favorite color is blue so it’s really lucky that An Ding’s and my King’s colors are pretty shades of blues. I like to drink jasmine as an everyday tea, osmanthus for special occasions, chrysanthemum in the summer, and chamomile for when I have trouble sleeping.” He reaches out for Mobei Jun’s hands, taking them in his and rubbing circles over his knuckles. “This one has a hard time shutting down his brain so that’s what keeps me up most nights, but it’s nothing bad! As for lullabies...hmm. I’ll sing you some of them one day.”
“That will be nice.”
Shang Qinghua smiles and nods. Mobei Jun holds his breath for the next set of answers.
“This one...this one has only ever loved his King. And he doesn’t...plan on stopping. Ever. As for why—what a ridiculous question, my King. After all,” he lifts Mobei Jun’s hands to his lips, “what is not to love?”
“Qinghua, I—” Mobei Jun swallows. The weight of affection he feels for this man is overwhelming. “This king would like to know Qinghua more. I should have—”
“It’s alright, my King, it’s alright,” Shang Qinghua says patting his hand. “We have a whole lifetime to get to know each other.”
Mobei Jun looks forward to it. He may not know the minute details that makeup Shang Qinghua yet, but this—Shang Qinghua pulls him in for a kiss, placing Mobei Jun’s hand on his chest over his heart—this Mobei Jun knows.

In general there don't tend to be a lot of casual friendships in MXTX's works, especially for the love interest. Developed female characters and friendships showed up more as in future works, particularly HOB, but SVSSS especially could have gone way harder on that.
This is such a backhanded statement, but sometimes I’m like, “Well, at least the empty spaces leave it open for fanfiction fun instead of being handed something that kind of makes a person go, ‘Hmmmmmm.’”
Which is more about authors in general than MXTX in particular. With SVSSS, I’m often genuinely uncertain what MXTX was trying to achieve overall and with specific characters, and I know that language barrier and cultural differences will prevent me from ever fully understanding many aspects/nuances. So it’s difficult for me to comment in-depth on things structurally.
That said, I’m of the opinion that a great many stories would be improved by developed female characters who survive the plot and meaningful non-romantic relationships to deepen characters’ losses, gains, and everyday life.
With PINTWILF, I hope it’s clear that this is not what I believe SVSSS should have been. Not at all. PINTWILF is more me going, “I want to see more Shang Qinghua. I want him to suffer feelings and attachments. Squirm, you little rat bastard of a man.”
I actually like the fact that SVSSS contains so many broken, strained, and difficult relationships. I think they’re interesting. That said, SVSSS didn’t stick the landing for me. Like, “Let’s see... after all these misunderstandings and all this misery, the characters have... no close friends, no real open communication, no hobbies or personal goals, and instead they have... really bad sex. Okay.”

Bamf SQH going on strike and showing the sect exactly how vital his peak is for everyday living and providing vital services for night hunts. For the prompts
Hey! First Prompt! Hope you like the drabble~
~
A few Peak Lords, despite Yue Qingyuan’s frozen smile and Mu Qingfang’s stiffening, laughed at the An Ding’s Peak Lord’s Announcements of Protest, a ceasing of all work their Peak will do, until their demand that had been written down were met.
Announcements of Protest weren’t a strange thing, rare to happen now, but they happened. A Sect Leader had made them into being decades ago, something about paperwork nightmares, and some Former Peaks have indeed made use of them in the past. Bai Zhan was in fact one of the last to use it, protesting how they had merely been regulated as meat shields instead of warriors, refusing to send out not even fully trained children onto battlefields.
No one thought much of Shang Qinghua announcing the protest, though Liu Qingge frowned instead of chuckled as he read some of the demands, his instincts warning him greatly, making him feel like he needs to stay at the Sect for now.
(Guards for Caravan Supplies whenever needed, Peak Lords handling their own affairs and not sending for An Ding every little problem, better Food, ectara...
Why, why was some of these demands, some things that should be a given? Why did they have to be demanded?)
No one, not one single Peak, was left laughing after a week.
Even with the allowances for Qian Cao, they too struggled with limited supplies they had, as nothing was being delivered. No one could organize anything, and even Shen Qingqiu, the one who trusted Shang Qinghua the least, even found his paperwork in disarray and out of order anytime he tried to find anything.
And this was only a week; Announcements of Protest can last Months, even Years what with them being Cultivators.
With fear in their hearts and terror of the paperwork built up, it was only after the second week did everyone fold, surprising Shang Qinghua greatly.
He had only wanted to find a way that him disappearing for a week wouldn’t be remarked on! His King needed him in the Demon Realm for a series of Meetings, and he couldn’t miss one, so finding out about the Announcement of Protest had been Heaven Sent. Sure, if they could meet some of his demands it would be nice and a real load off his own work. (And maybe their was a spiteful side that wanted to see the Impeccable Peaks Lords flounder at least a little before they told him to knock it off and get back to work.)
Thing was, Shang Qinghua had used the Announcements of Protest; these were fully binding Vows, made by a Pissed off and Overworked Sect Leader, Refined by many a angered and overwrough Peak Lord, and touched upon by a Heartbroken and Mourning Bai Zhan Peak Lord.
They could not be broken and any attempts of Force on the Vowed would turn the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect’s own wards of protection and attack against them...
As long as the vowed was rightful in their demands...
(And oh, what did it say that the Vows considered the traitorous Peak Lord Rightful in their Demands?)
As it was, when all of An Ding heard they were going to have their Demands met, after the stunned silence, Celebrations started in earnest, lasting for yet another week.
(And the backlog wasn’t even that bad! It was almost like a normal day really.)
Looking out at the much better food on his plate, Shang Qinghua, once Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky, closed in eyes in bliss at his first bite, a happy smile for once on his face.
He could get used to this.

hi! i've noticed that recently you have been posting a lot about several (i think it's more than one) pairings of very pretty men with long black hair (one goth/one angelic) and i was wondering what that was? when i try to google the things in your tags on these posts, the results are mostly in chinese and what's in english i don't really get (what is cultivation?) i'm sorry to be treating you like like a search engine, i'm just curious about the pretty boys and i don't know who else to ask
Hello!
I have indeed been posting about several very pretty pairings. Because I have no self control! *finger guns* But! because I have no self control and I don’t mind being a search engine, I can definitely give you a hand.
The pairings should primarily be from mo doa zu shi and tian guan ci fu; scum villain probably only started showing up a day or two ago. These links are to my tags; the later links will be to good sites for the novels. I don’t have good sites for anything else because I’m a very low-profile p*rate
Before I get too far into anything, the quick and dirty of cultivation is: martial arts + meditation/daoism? = magic powers. These magic powers are then typically put to use fighting evil supernatural powers. As a character’s cultivation improves, their power level increases and they can become immortal or even gods. All of this in the general but vague context of ancient china.
This summary is brought to you after flailing about in an entirely new-to-me cultural backdrop for the past 2ish months. Now, back to the pretty boys.
mo doa zu shi, or The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation or The Founder of Diabolism, follows Wei WuXian (goth) who has been brought back to life and Lan WangJi (angelic) who has no intention of losing his high school crush a second time as they solve mysteries. More of a low to mid fantasy, there is a large focus on the various sects or factions and the diplomatics between them. Originally a chinese web novel, it also has a manhua/manga adaptation, a donghua/anime adaptation and a drama adaptation. The novel, manhua and donghua all go by the above names but the drama goes by The Untamed. It’s on netflix. Very good. Everyone loves the bunnies. Be prepared for feels. Including feels for a corpse.
tian guan ci fu, or Heaven Official’s Blessing, follows Xie Lian (angelic), a disgraced heavenly official who has been wandering the world for 800 years, who ascends to heaven (for the 3rd time) and Hua Cheng (goth), a great ghost king and scourge of the heavens, as they fall in love and tear down the government. Definitely would be high fantasy, the characters are primarily gods or ghosts. As soon as you get over the fact that the becoming a god/ascending to heaven that everyone aspires to essentially means they become a bureaucrat for all of eternity, it makes perfect sense. Actually, it really is more accessible than mdzs in terms of needed background knowledge; it explains itself quite well. Glancing through my tag, there’s a bit more variety to it. Many characters are very fun. The other pairing that shows up rather often is colloquially known as beefleaf; Shi QuanXuan (angelic), a super peppy cinnamon roll, and Ming Yi (goth) who reluctantly cross-dresses* with them. (*does it still count as cross-dressing if no one has a corporeal body anymore and occasionally decide I’m going to be x gender today?) Anyway, this is also originally a chinese web novel. Both are by the same author. There is a recently started manhua adaptation that is very lovely and a donghua adaptation should be starting later this year. SUPER soft. Intense but doesn’t take itself too seriously. Great cast of characters.
Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System is the third, or rather the first, novel by this same author. This one requires a little bit more trope/genre awareness but it’s well done and has good translations so that makes it a nice place to get into the trope if you’re looking for one. This is a transmigration story. The premise of transmigration is (or at least seems to be) that a person dies but, instead of dying, they wake up somewhere else as someone else. The particular brand of transmigration found in scum villain is the waking up as a character of a book that is destined to die. Then the story becomes how the transmigrated person changes the character’s relationships and interactions and what the repercussions of those changes are. Here, Shen QingQiu (angelic) transmigrates to become the teacher of Luo BingHe (goth), the protagonist who just wants to love his teacher but all of his advances end up interpreted as death threats. The other angelic/goth pairing you’re most likely to see here is Shang QingHua/Mo BeiJun but I have not yet gotten far enough to give them a proper comment. From what I understand, there were once plans for all sorts of adaptations but they are all cancelled or on indefinited hiatus. Very campy. Very trope-y. Has never heard of the 4th wall. Very funny.
And should you want to continue down this sort of rabbit hole, some nice places to start are:
Psychic Princess - manhua/donghua; m/f; girl gets married in place of her sister thanks to a loop hole, proceeds to make friends with all the spirits in her new home; historical supernatural
The King’s Avatar - novel/manhua/donghua/drama; I believe there is some endgame m/f in the novel, none as of yet in the donghua, can’t speak to the rest; who doesn’t want to watch the world get beat up by some guy with an umbrella; modern day + online games
The Emperor’s Strategy - novel/donghua; m/m; emperor asks a lord what he wants as a reward for a service rendered, lord replies “you”; half historical half mid fantasy
Everyday the Protagonist Wants to Catch Me - novel; m/m; very similar to scum villain
Let Me Tease You - novel; m/m; not quite as similar to scum villain
Imperial Doctor Belongs to the Princess - novel; f/f; most promising looking f/f I’ve come across but it’s not very translated T^T
Mistress, I was Wrong - novel; f/f; could be interesting but also not very translated
Lone Swan - manhua; m/m; kinda like mdzs except with puppets instead of corpses; very pretty like the tgcf manhua
Thank you for the amusing reminder that virtually every couple here can be asked “so who’s the angel and who’s the goth?” I apologise for getting carried away... hopefully this was still good and you don’t regret coming to me to be a search engine!

Finished Main Story of SVSSS....
So yeah, I did that. I still really liked the story overall. Some parts are a bit problematic in a way, but also in a satisfying way that is complex and I think can refer to some real life relationships and complexities of that because not all relationships fit nicely into the little boxes and labels that we make and that’s my take away from the ending.
-Don’t like the in-story “original author” still, but also don’t dislike him as much as I did when I started the story now that I got more of his perspective. MXTX posted all of this for free not thinking it would go anywhere really, but it’s true that some people do have careers where they make a living off of their webnovels and fans buying chapters, so that pressure is there. I’m sure that because MXTX is also a fan of D. Gray-man, she’s aware of the similar pressures that even mangaka at JUMP face. Like BLEACH basically ended early because it fell out of popularity with the fans just as Airplane mentions happens to some novel works. To be fair, BLEACH also lifted an entire plotline from another popular supernatural manga including carbon copies of the lackeys of the villain for that arc, so some shade was also deserved. Like Yukio is just Amanuma Tsukihito with a PSP instead of an arcade system or Super Famicom. D. Gray-man itself has also been on hiaitus several times due to health concerns and such. Same as Hunter x Hunter and other prolific manga. The pressure is real and some ways the original author is kind of a mood. He’s also still a huge coward and that’s annoying.
-I feel worse for Shen Jiu than when I did when I was just reading his backstory off of the wikis and stuff from just wanting to see Shen Qingqiu’s beautiful face. Like I felt bad before, but after knowing more and witnessing some sentiments that would have been gut punches if Shen Jiu had heard them, I feel so bad for him. I don’t condone what he did, but I also get it and wish I could hug him. Basically about the same level of thought as I put into how much I like Emet-Selch, but I think overall in the end I love Emet-Selch more because the 5.3 patch update for FFXIV broke me. Man, that MSQ. Like I’ve never been opposed to liking villains and always thought some villains were cool. Like my sister worships Sephiroth from FFVII for instance, but like I was never really into Sephiroth’s motivations in that he’s cool, but his identity crisis didn’t quite strike me as like actually 100% believable that torching Nibelheim and trying to rescue Jenova was justified or a natural reaction someone in his position would have. I like him more than Cloud cuz Cloud is a hot fucking mess of a person and he’s overall just cool, but as a villain his motivations didn’t resonate with me. A lot of people also really liked Kefka because he’s just straight up insane and like chaotic evil, but that kind of evil just isn’t compelling to me. Emet-Selch though straight up broke me and I thought about him for like months after the initial end of Shadowbringers when you do the fight with Hades. His story is ripe with meaning and nuance and the Tales from the Shadows stories adding more nuance and color to his eternal living torture of seeing remnants of people he cared about constantly without a break or a way to really “forget” and heal. That just stuck with me because I’ve lost people in my life too, and I remember what that was like and how hard it was to even live the day after let alone the following few years. I remember it well even today because it fundamentally changed me as a person, but I was able to find some relief and escape from music and entertainment and going out to have new experiences and travel. Emet-Selch could not, so his story really broke me internally. I bring this up just to make a comparison because I love Shen Jiu as well, but for nowhere near as dramatic a reason as I love Emet-Selch.
Spoilers under the cut
Okay, so since I was just talking about Shen Jiu, and maybe it’s partly because I actually find him to be gorgeous as well, but just reading his story did genuinely make me sad. I found his child form to be a little bit jaded already only because he was an older child already by the time he was bought by the Qius. When Yue Qingyuan was parting with him through the door he was being kind of manipulative there for extra sympathy initially, which isn’t really great. How severely the brother beat him though was hard to take. It was so extreme, like wtf? And perhaps the part where Qiu Haitang said that he’d been “freed” and the part where he was engaged seems to be true-ish, but yeah her brother is kind of really fucked up in how he still talks to him even though he is supposed to be his brother-in-law soon? Like what the hell. But like, the summaries of what he did online and even what Haitang had said also made it sound even more cold than it was. Like once he got going yeah, the onslaught was kind of cold. But he still had a moment of shock where like he didn’t really realize what he’d done right away and needed a moment to process. But after that it was like, well, it’s already done and people came to try to help the young master and he had to get out too. So the other people on the way out after that don’t sound nearly as consequential and it was really striking that not only did he not attack Haitang, but he spared all the other women in the house. Like Jesus Christ, were *ALL* the men in the house including the male servants and other slaves they had assholes to him too? Just, wow. But we don’t get a lot into what else happened there, but if the head of the household is bad and hurts him, it’s believable that other people join in just as Ming Fan joined in because Shen Jiu was complicit in allowing Binghe’s suffering. Really key though is the commentary of both the young master and his first evil master about his age.
That is such a huge chip on his shoulder because everyone keeps bringing it the fuck up. Including Qingge in another memory later on when he’s already Peak Lord. I know they don’t like each other, but that was really mean. I realize Qingge probably doesn’t care and that was the point to throw salt in his wounds because they don’t like each other, but seeing how much it affected him by him breaking his fan with his hands after hearing that. I’ve had people do similar to me where they make an insensitive comment to try to hurt you without understanding the actual circumstances. My sister did that to me once and I reconciled with her for a bit, but decided not to talk to her anymore again because of some other bullshit with her friends being childish. But when she did similar to me, I never really forgave her for it either. My story is not nearly as dramatic, but basically I had quit a job where I was being bullied by coworkers at the start of the recession and I was looking for jobs, but no luck with anything I was qualified for even though I went on a few interviews. There actually weren’t many listings posted around that time, so I would only be able to find a couple to apply to and by the time my sister came home I’d be playing games to pass the time cuz I was bored out of my mind waiting for something to happen. So then we got in an argument for I forget the initial reason anymore, but she brought up how I “wasn’t looking” for a job and just seemed to be “being lazy” and I just got so pissed and yelled at her that she had no fucking idea what I was doing everyday and that I am looking and there isn’t anything fucking there. I also lost it and threw a stool at her. I’m not proud of it, but I totally get the mood of what it feels like for someone to use something that you are struggling with as a negative to throw in your face even though you are trying *SO* hard to do your best. I especially don’t want to hear that from someone who gave up on their desired career that they were actually good at and making a decent living at for money and also can’t tell when their friends are kissing up to them and crossing a line and won’t stand up to them for being shitty people. Teapot meet kettle, and don’t throw stones if you live in a glass fucking house. I don’t like low blows like that.
My personal family issue aside though, I felt a lot of empathy for Shen Jiu in that moment. Seeing how he interacted with Binghe on their first meeting after that though, like I was sad for Binghe too, but I can also see where his misunderstanding happened on top of his insecurity. I also kind of wonder if Qingge’s comment also kind of encouraged this situation to happen. I still like Qingge because he makes up for it a lot later, but yeah that was fucked up.
The gut punch later was when Qingyuan was seemingly dying and tried to apologize to Qingqiu, but all the words and the things Shen Jiu needed to hear. His years of misunderstanding and not knowing and being in pain and thinking he was abandoned. That was painful. Shen Jiu is gone. We don’t know where he is. Maybe he’s dead. No idea, but those are things he can never know. It’s already too late, and that’s crushing.
I still just really want to know more about Shen Jiu and I feel really sad that there wasn’t some kind of redemption for him or anything. Even if it’s like Shen Yuan going into the recesses of his own mind and finds Shen Jiu locked in a box somewhere so actually the both of them share the same body and he’s just watching in a tiny TV what Shen Yuan does with his body. He’d be really frustrated and would probably scream at him a lot with his screams completely unheard, but at least he’d get to see people liking him more and would be able to hear the words that Qingyuan spoke. I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw a theory about OG Qingqiu transmigrating into Shen Yuan when Shen Yuan takes over his body, and I think that’s possible because Shang Qinghua says that when he transmigrated he was born there and was since a baby? I was thinking maybe it’d be more like OG dies when OG Binghe kills him and then becomes Shen Yuan, but who knows.
I mean, also I just crave more information about him. He’s so unfortunate, and I like wish more went right for him so that he wouldn’t be so miserable. Like when you see a character where their life is just shit on, you just wish that you could do something to take away their pain.
And with that sentiment, that’s also why I found the ending to be satisfying but probably a little problematic. Like Shen Yuan is just a good guy and he has that same sentiment for Binghe just because he’s a poor kid with a shitty hand in life, but he’s also like really clearly not gay himself and not actually attracted to Binghe in that way. To be clear, the book does seem to discourage this kind of relationship in that it works in the way the narrative unfolded, but it isn’t one that would work in real life really. That’s part of the depth of it though. Like SY emotionally cares for him and he even remarks that he feels kind of more like his Dad, but the physical side of their relationship is more on Binghe’s side than his, and he acquiesces to it because he feels bad for him because this poor child has no one. And yeah, fine this works in an actual book that we’re all reading and this works within the system within the book where the MC is in a book himself with really screwed up logic rules, but I don’t recommend this method of getting with someone you like in real life. It will not end well. If someone you like is not into you, emotionally manipulating them and crying and also stalking them until they give their body to you out of desperation to console you is not the road to happiness. You also won’t have a pressure timer of life on earth ending by combining with actual hell to push them into bed with you. The fact that SY resorts to this in desperation in order to try to help Binghe to get control of the demon sword is admirable in the narrative of the story in that he’s doing it because he cares so much about this person and that’s fine, but it’s a red flag if anyone did this IRL and put their wishes aside to appease someone else. There will be a breakdown in the future as one person puts aside their needs for the other one completely. Partnerships that work are healthy and equal. That’s not what this is. In the story, the two characters have an understanding though that makes it fine, but I have second-hand anxiety for the idea that anyone would try to replicate this. This is not normally healthy.
But at the same time, the fact that the characters have an understanding to that is unique to their personal choice is also realistic in a sense that life is sometimes complicated and a similar situation could come about, but it is the choice of the people involved. With constant communication there’s a slim chance that maybe it could work out, but it’s hard. The main level of complexity I’m thinking of is that there’s different ways to care about other people or rather to just feel about other people. Like you can have like an intellectual attraction to other people in that you just like talking with them and you’re good friends with them because of that. You can be romantically attracted to someone, but also not feel sexual attraction too. Of course you can also feel physical attraction to someone, but not really care at all about them emotionally or even intellectually. SY has emotional feelings for Binghe, but it’s more on the parental side or even just human in not wanting him to suffer. If this were a points meter, his values for his emotions and just caring about him would be at max, while physical attraction and even romantic attraction are basically zero. Like he also just like cares about him in principle? Like as an all seeing reader you look at everything and are just like, wtf with this shit? How can one person suffer so much? As empthy or even sympathy you feel for them so then if the other person is more not asexual or aromantic that can trigger some feelings which is what happened between these two characters. The reason I say it isn’t necessarily bad, but some shakiness on execution too. But like say like an asexual person is romantically attracted to someone who isn’t asexual, but they still want to be with them. Like the non-ace person has some needs sometimes and even if the ace doesn’t feel it, because they care about their partner they acquiesce to their partner’s requests because they just want them to be happy. This kind of very personal choice situation I think is really similar to basically what ends up happening between SY Qingqiu and Binghe where SY isn’t really interested, but at the same time cares about Binghe’s well-being so much that he actually just wants him to be happy and reluctantly is okay with the situation. IRL though Binghe would be REALLY FRUSTRATING to be so unreasonably needy and like narcissistically abusive in wanting him all to himself an isolating him from his friends and being jealous of them. In comparison, Wangji and Wuxian are a great deal more balanced in comparison, but I also really like this book for the original idea and the complexity of SY’s ultimate choice because I feel like it’s also a bit more real that some people do make that kind of choice. It’s not healthy or guaranteed to be a success or happy experience, but it’s in the realm of possibilities for the kinds of personal choices people can make because the other person’s happiness is worth the minor discomfort.
Ah, I just have a lot of thoughts about this. Part of it stems from myself being ace also and what that means for me. But also getting to the end, I think Qingge is a fellow ace and also similar to me, just serious about his job and loyal to his crew.
I’ve read some of the extras obviously, but I haven’t delved that deeply into the extra materials.
Oh also, I laughed so hard when Mobei-jun just tossed Shang Qinghua over like a chicken. It said like a chicken and it was hilarious. XD Like imagining that panicked sound of hucking chickens in Ocarina of Time.
Oh and ho-shit the alt punishment system came up for SY Qingqiu for screwing up his points. Got to live through half the process of becoming a human stick very painfully.
I guess part of me is still kind of just wondering how Binghe grew to be SO needy. It’s to an unnecessary degree, but I guess without any real emotional or social guidance in the Endless Abyss that could happen?
Zhuzhi-Lang though is a really frustratingly annoying character, but I also like him at the same time. I’m confused by him.
The only other thing I’m like confused a bit about is like, so the 4 sects that are depicted with Cang Qiong Mountain being the top one are like the great four sects, but like...where are they? I’m just asking because of the kind of meta general landscape of what cultivation and Taoism is like some of the events that happen I would think actually would call down some interference from actual Heaven. Like in the classic lit, whenever there’s huge disturbances down in the Human World, like the Heavenly Palace and like the Jade Emperor are like, “WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?” and go send people. I find it really hard to believe that such a disaster as the combining of two realms would be ignored by the armies of Heaven and like Nezha, Erlang Shen, and other notable actual deities up there would come down and be like, “The fuck you guys doing down here with these shenanigans?” Also, Journey to the West is like one of the most like influential books in the canon of Chinese lit and is regarded as literally one of the Four Great Classics. But none of these fools in these “great four sects” know how to stamp a floor and call up the local deity to tell you what the hell is happening in Jinlan City instead of sending your disciples to die? Sun Wukung did that at like every damn city and then also threatened to beat them if they like weren’t doing their job properly. Those minor deities are on the payroll for Heaven, so like...use them? Like I feel like they would know this too because like the ultimate goal for cultivation is to be able to become an immortal and end up on the payroll? I know Qingqiu is supposedly like mid-level or something, but like I think they should like know-ish where they’re going? Like in the future they would become one of those minor gods making records? Are they like not high enough to even talk to them? Maybe not, but I do think like Nezha, Pagoda Bearer Li, or Erlang Shen would definitely come down and be like, “Hey, what’s going on?”
Also like, Shen Jiu isn’t a great character and how he treats his disciples is bad and what he did was bad. But like, also, what is the standard to judge him really? Like Nezha was a dick when he was a child too. When he was 3 he went to a river and was swimming and liked killed all the fish and then a dragon prince came out and was like, “WTF? Why are all the fish dead?” and then Nezha instead of answering him kills him and guts him and then takes his tendon home to turn into a belt. Then like his Dad gets a complaint from the Dragon King like, “Hey, my son is dead! Your son did it. Hand him over so I can kill him or I destroy your town.” So then Nezha’s Dad goes to talk to him and is like, “What’re you doing?” And then Nezha answers him and tells him exactly what he did like it was no big fucking deal that he killed the local Dragon Prince and made him into a belt. Obviously there’s an argument and like Nezha basically rage quits his life and is like, if you’re so concerned about this bullshit I return this body to you and kills himself to cut off his ties to his parents. He was a rude little shit. Then he went into his Mom’s dream and threatened her until she built him a temple so he could get prayer requests until he could be reborn again. His Dad found out and wrecked the temple, so then he went up to go find his master who had him be reborn using lotus flowers. After that after being reborn, Nezha’s first order of business was to go back to his family and try to kill his own father for fucking up his temple and chased him down EVERYWHERE until other powers in Heaven, decided to send down Nezha’s older brothers with a pagoda to give to their Dad that would trap and burn Nezha everytime he tried to murder him. Is this better or worse than what Shen Jiu did? This is an actual god that people worship. A quite prominent and very famous one. Nezha is also one of my favorite deities and I had a huge crush on the Nataku from Fujisaki Ryu’s Houshin Engi manga who has mostly the same backstory as deity Nezha, and I just loved him in high school. He was a good guy. What are the standards here people? I don’t think anyone in any story in China can really judge someone like Shen Jiu doing an understandable level of murder as a response to trauma and severe abuse when they worship a deity that suffered nothing and tried to commit patricide and had a severe disregard for other life. In the cultivation world, potentially, this could be their future boss. I think arguably, he could be worse than Shen Jiu, but he’s a canonical real deity.
The above tirade for me is like a thing I feel like I would have said if I was in the position to be alive in Jinlan City and wanted to defend Shen Qingqiu cuz WTF.
Further, I’m a huge fan of Jigoku Shoujo and Enma Ai did much the same after her cousin saved her from being sacrificed, the villagers found out, buried her a live, made her cousin help bury her alive, and then she came back as a vengeful spirit and set the whole village on fire and killed everyone except maybe her parents who had their souls as prisoners by Enma himself? Can’t 100% remember. But like, on the scale of characters I like that have done terrible things, Shen Jiu is actually relatively low and under some people that are good guys.

Cindrella Masquerade AU! Shen Yuan is Shen Jiu's sickly twin. Luo Binghe is a prince. Shen Jiu is LBH's tutor. Everyday SJ complains to SY about his "horrible student" though SY isn't convinced. There's a ball to find LBH a partner and SJ forbids SY from going because he could get sick. But SJ didn't count of Shang Qinghua helping SY get out and get to the ball. So LBH falls in love with this mysterious new guy and wants to find out who he is. SJ is trying to keep him from finding out it's SY
“though SY isn't convinced” >> “he’s horrible!” “ge, you think everyone is horrible” “i don’t think you’re horrible” “besides me”
OKAY WHAT OF LBH’S REACTION WHEN HE FIRST SEES SY’S FACE HAHAHAHA

Wow, if Airplane existed in our world, I surely would be part of his audience. Palace intrigue + the fact that he wrote 10k everyday? What a treat !
He would have tried to give more depth to at least some more characters than the protagonist, notably the principal wives, right? I do believe that could have helped increase his income.
I think the audience would love to see Ning Yingying transition from the bubbly and naive Shijie to a mature, kind but hardened Empress/First Wife through her surviving schemes and having to plot herself. They would want to see the ever sexy savage demoness Sha Hualing soften for the half-human, going from disrespecting him to finding him interesting to fighting for him. They would gleefully watch the goddess Liu Mingyan, the peerless beauty ever uninterested in men, fall for Luo Binghe and adorably try to gain his attention with whatever experience she gathered from her own suitors. It would also be interesting to see these women join forces to tame some vicious rival or enemy, to have some pwp, to see them be sometimes charmingly firm and gracious, sometimes a little bit more selfish, to see them have some special adventures with Luo Binghe, and struggle with some political-personal decisions like someone having a baby with Junshang. And then there would be interesting, refreshing secondary characters, new sets of wives with different personalities and abilities, and some of them would have their time to shine, and become a reader's little favourite.
Anyway, in my opinion Shang Qinghua wasn't simply a shitty author-
I’ve been doing more research into stallion novels, and have come to certain conclusions about how PIDW is actually rather different from your standard stallion fare:
In most stallion novels, there’s little to no conflict between the members of the protagonist’s harem. They’re just totally cool with the protagonist having as many other women as he likes, and are just happy to have any of his attention at all. This is likely where Shen Yuan’s frustration over PIDW’s harem drama stems from: it’s from an entirely different genre that focuses on palace intrigue (I’m sure it must have a name, but I haven’t been able to find it) and typically appeals to a female audience. Some dramas in this genre are Empress in the Palace and The Story of Yanxi Palace. So not only does this make PIDW more accurate in terms of the realities of large IRL harems, but it also gives us some insight into the sort of fiction that Airplane-bro actually likes to consume.
Many stallion novels occur over timescales that are truly absurd, spanning thousands or even millions of years (the former is more typical of xianxia, while the latter is more typical of xuanhuan). PIDW, by contrast, had a timeline spanning only 200 years. This makes it somewhat more grounded than many of its peers.
Children are actually rare in stallion novels, and typically not numerous if they do appear. This is likely to avoid the sense that the protagonist is getting “tied down”, since the male power fantasy lies in boinking lots of “jade-skinned beauties”, not having lots of children that are now the protagonist’s problem. (And potentially making the protagonist less likable by making him a deadbeat dad, since we can presume a lot of stallion authors/readers have daddy issues.) So Bingge actually having quite a few children, and them factoring into the harem drama (as props, if nothing else, as evidenced by Qin Wanyue’s miscarriage), is really very unique, and once again more reflective of actual IRL royal harem dynamics than you would expect from a stallion novel.
In other words, while I do think we as a fandom tend to give Airplane-bro too much credit in terms of his papapa writing skills, I think we are probably underestimating just how much his more ‘sophisticated’ tastes influenced the final product of PIDW. While still very much a typical stallion novel in many ways, it definitely stands apart from the crowd.
