I think depictions of Anya being cruel to Curly or drawing out his suffering are artful and chilling but completely miss the point of the story and her character.

I'm not saying she doesn't deserve to have that "I told you so" moment with him but not in something callous or cold. Even if that is how it happened, she'd immediately feel guilty cause at that point she's not tormenting her tormenter or even the person truly at fault. She's doing something cathartic, similar to how Jimmy likely hits Curly to release rage he can't against the rest of the crew. She'd see herself as no different when she'd come back from the moment and see Curly cowering at her. She wants someone to take responsibility but how does being cruel to the defenseless help? Why would she want the power Jimmy has over her over Curly?

The idea of her extending someone else's pain is just so against the struggles she already faces and how she can't even bring herself to cause someone pain even to help them. Her very desire is to release herself from her own suffering and I doubt she'd even fine some sort of guilty release in being cruel to another.

you know im unable to shut up when i have any opinion on zelda (though i try and have thus far succeeded at not commenting on any other concept from the darn book)- i find most totk ganondorf concept art worse than what we got to insulting even (of those i have seen) ..... this one though

much more the one in the background than the one up front, still at least he has the collar and the weapon we saw in the first trailer of things that never happen in the end (like so much else)

when people talk about educating yourself on the origins of ideologies like zionism, it isn’t to ask for sympathy but to show that fascism always hinges on the same rules - dehumanisation and other-ing of scapegoat populations in the pursuit of power.

Yes, obviously, he was a conservative Catholic and this was really important to his understanding of the world and pervades his work and so on and so forth.

But I'm a bit "..." about reducing everything he thought and felt about the world to that. Like, yeah, there's a tradition of conservative pastoralism that meant the context of his environmental opinions was not inherently progressive in the way it can mistakenly seem in 2024. Do I think he was Like That about trees because of conservative pastoralism, or his Catholicism, or that the particular form taken by his TREES TREES TREES #OLDMANWILLOWDIDNOTHINGWRONG TREEEEEEEEES ethos much resembles most of his contemporaries' feelings?

Not really.

I mean, he would never have said it, but I kind of doubt whether his very sincere and deeply felt veneration of the actual figures of his religion was truly comparable to how he felt about things like That One Oak on the Corner That I Liked Got Chopped Down by Evildoers. I've read other conservative British writers of this era who have their own forms of pastoralism and most of them are way less intense about it. I truly don't think Tolkien loved trees the way he did Because Catholicism or whatnot. I genuinely think he just really loved trees.

Basically, I can imagine some alternate universe in which alternate Tolkien ends up with really different beliefs about religion, about politics, about all sorts of things. But I can absolutely not imagine a universe in which any version of Tolkien did not take the part of trees against all their enemies.

I cannot get over this house. You can't say that it has curb appeal- the 2011 build in Brethren, MI is built of blocks with a tin roof and is meant for "aging in place," meaning that you would stay here your whole life, no need to go to a senior facility, eventually. I find that an odd selling point, b/c that isn't always possible. Anyway, the house is big, 4,644 sq ft, but has only 1bd, 3ba. $850k.

The front door opens to this large anteroom. Notice the step-like shelving on the left.

Double glass doors to the main open concept living space.

So, this is the one bedroom, and it's huge.

It has a fireplace and they have a chair w/an ottoman in front of it, but you can actually fit a whole living room here.

Not sure if this unit is a built-in.

There's a large closet.

And thru the closet, there's a gigantic bath.

This enormous room is an open concept living room/kitchen combination.

Behind the kitchen there's a pantry.

Off to the side of the kitchen there's this tropical 1/2 bath.

Oooh, I wonder if that's a Dale Chihuly chandelier.

Downstairs there's a kitchenette.

And, a very big rec room.

The 3rd bath is down here.

It has an elevator to traverse the 3 levels.

There's a safe in this hall.

The hall leads to this big room with a hot tub.

The art on the lawn will probably convey.

In addition to the house, there're several barns on the property.

The property is 40 acres.
