I think Dandadan is a very good example of how having comedy helps enhance the drama and vice-versa. Too much comedy gets annoying, too much drama gets tiring. If you know how to balance both, however, you can get your audience to lower their guard towards each aspect enough to slip in and hit when it counts, without the comedy cheapening the drama or giving people whiplash with sudden heavy topics.

I cannot believe I have to say this, but also shoutout to Dan Da Dan for not sexualizing CPR...

It was really refreshing to see Okarun not argue or make any weird comments about it when Momo suggests it. Mouth-to-mouth respiration is an emergency procedure to save somebody's life, why does it only get equated to kissing in pop culture?

I actually find Silky's appearance change in the anime genius.

It starts with her being lost, unable to remember anything; her appearance being the same as when she died.

Then after Aira, she remembers that she had/has a child and a switch is flipped. We see her hair grow longer, her face change and her outfit become the same as the one she gifted her daughter.

In the manga, her outfit when she met Aira as a child was the same as it is as Acrobatic Silky. But showing her appearance change from a lost ghost to the evil spirit she'd become was more effective (at least to me). We see a literal change in her after meeting Aira; she was no longer lost, she set her sights on a single purpose (or regained her original one of saving/protecting "her child"). It makes sense since in life, her daughter was a her world, her whole reason for being. In death, it continues to be true.

I just really like how they did that.

The silly stupid alien show about ghosts that steal your cock and balls just pulled the most gut wrenching, poignant shit possible and portrayed it so artistically and meaningfully what is even life.

This was MASTERFULLY done. The visual and environmental storytelling, the subtle foreshadowing, and inject those motifs into my fucking BLOOD.

I’m not fucking joking, Dandadan episode 7 is the first anime to make me have a genuine emotional breakdown, I can’t stop fucking crying, no work of fiction has ever made me genuinely feel so sick to my stomach with sadness and anger, I feel like I’m going to throw up, I love this fucking anime and it’s going to kill me if it keeps being like this

holy shit the way episode 7 presents acrobatic silky's story is just. god i dont even know what to say, that was masterfully done. the first person perspective is such a wonderful contrast to the manga, and it's so brutally drawn out. there wasnt a moment i wasnt holding my breath. and the ROOFTOP SCENE. dandadan's animation is fucking phenomenal anyway, but i was blown away by the rooftop scene. ugh fuck.
