Wasn't quite in the headspace today to be postin', but the New York Times had to drag me to my keyboard by publishing an article about "The rise of otaku". An article on otaku! In the Year of Our Lord 2025!!

It isn't that you can't do that, of course - the thesis about how Japan's otaku approaches to fandom grew to dominate the wider world is a perfectly valid one to discuss. But if you do, you need to grapple with the cultural detritus the West has accumulated about "otaku culture" over the years, and it does not reach that bar. It isn't "cringe", it isn't obviously wrong, but it is stuck in the past. Take the headshot you can see above of a 単眼面/Tanganmen, or "one-eyed mask". The author is using it to showcase the ~crazy things~ people in Japan who are into anime-adjacent stuff do. In other words, the Weird Japan trope, where for complex reasons niche one-off things done by influencer-types or media companies in Japan get transported to the West to be used as symbols of Japan's "alt" culture. So while in English searching "tanganmen" throws up Vice articles, in Japan the creator of these masks Ozawa Dango has 6000 followers on Twitter:

She first made them in 2012, and while like props to her for keeping an art project alive, the source the NYT uses is an article from 2019, 7 years later - which is itself from 6 years ago! This isn't a "thing" in Japan, it is not a relevant part of otaku culture, and I think having it be front billing here is deceptive. I have a similar-if-less-intense reaction to the usages of the classic "otaku room photos" in the article:

This does reflect a real phenomenon, for sure, but for one the first photo is from 2014, and the second from 2019. In fact, none of the photos in the article are from the 2020's at all - a serious problem for a discussion of a youth pop-culture-focused movement. But let's take that first photo - it is from Shiori Kawamoto's 2014 “Daraku Room” book. Did you notice, like I did, that our girl is, well, really hot? Like way too hot to be that devoted to moe yuri series YuruYuri? For context, let's look at some other photos from that book!

Thanks, JapanTease.net! I can't tell you where this book ranks on the gravure-scale, I don't own it, but I can promise you is not zero. That girl might actually be a massive yuri manga fan, I won't judge, but the point is that pulling photos from a softcore porn glam book to stand-in for otaku is not what we in the statistics business call a representative sample. Like the one-eyed mask, this isn't real otaku at all.

Okay, enough photo dunks, let's get into the text. Those dunks are relevant, of course; they play on older tropes about Japan, "Weird Japan" and the "Otaku Room", and that problem continues throughout the article. First up, we have foundational quotes from Susan Napier, who is something of a trope herself as the first American academic to publish serious-yet-accessible works about anime starting in the 1990's. I am not a fan of her work, as she constantly tries to draw overly ambitions and serious social and historical connections between anime and the world, and we see that on display here:

[She] traces the origins of the otaku to the Edo period. Beginning in the early 17th century, sanctioned red-light districts known as pleasure centers were built in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka as sites for courtesans to entertain men; other areas were designated for enjoying Kabuki theater. “You had the development of a fan culture with people who loved a particular courtesan or actor.”

Strictly wrong? No - but Edo's red-light districts did not invent the idea of a celebrity, let's be real. That is a socially-universal concept that existed for centuries before then across the globe, and it didn't really lead to otaku (a very modern phenomenon) in any causal way. But it makes it sound more distinguished, more artistic, the way 2000's fans of anime in the west wanted their hobby to look.

That temptation to universalize cuts a different way too - lumping too much under the "otaku" umbrella. Since it has that "otaku led the future of fandom" thesis, it wants to label everything from themed Shinjuku bars to Lolita as "obsessive otaku fandom" to sell you on that idea. However, while those concepts are linked, sure, are they the same phenomenon? When, as the article quotes, Marie Kondo calls herself an "organizing otaku", is she actually saying anything about creative fandom? Or is she making a joke, and she is just an interior designer/lifestyle guru like every country everywhere has had for decades? These comparisons obscure more than elucidate, because "otaku" culture was historically, by a large majority, composed of media otaku. Japan did not invent or export a model of people being devoted craftsmen or opening themed restaurants. What it did "export" was the idea of fandom-as-identity and fandom-as-creativity, which media fans in the relevant eras dominated.

A topic around which, admittedly, the article has a bit of a knot it can't untie; because it is an article about otaku that doesn't want to mention sex. Beyond Edo-era red-light districts, the only mention is from a gender lens:

Wong and others make a point to address what he calls “the elephant in the room”: an undercurrent of female sexualization that began with manga and which, in what’s still a rather male-dominated society, extends to the broader world of otaku

"Elephant in the room" guys it is the whole room. It is a whole city block! You mention Comiket - oh sorry, "Comic Market" - but delicately dance around how those "750,000 attendees" bought at least as many porn doujins. And unlike Marie Kondo this is foundational to how otaku cultural dynamics were formed, and how they spread - the erotic content was a core part of why everyone "showed up" in the early days. And it is how the media mix and fandom-creator model spread to other countries, building on extant communities writing fanfiction and making fanart zines. You could not mention this topic at all if you didn't want to, but if you are going to touch on "sexualization" you need to own its importance. I almost see this as a sort of memetic response; in the anime early days everyone bashed otaku as perverts. In the new, tolerant era of today the author doesn't want to engage with that, but they overcorrect by essentially ignoring it. You have to find the middle here if you want to understand the history.

Okay, okay, that is enough - I know this is a very "death of a thousand cuts" essay, there isn't like a core failed thesis. As the New York Times, articles like these both set the standard for narratives around a topic and reflect the standard ideas already out there, so it is frustrating for it to be so... ungainly, and I wanted to note that. Set the record straight, as it were. But I will admit it is better than it probably would have been a decade ago, it does reflect growth in the discourse. And it isn't like it has some straight up nonsen—

I think in a lot of ways he regrets that Shadow never had help because they just met "Too late" in a lot of ways.

Shadow had already committed many horrible deeds before anyone had a glimpse of being able to help him.

While Dark is still very new and able to be saved from a life of regret or villainy, cause Green recognized that spark of good in him that could blossom into a good person if they give it a try.

...To be fair a lot of what Dark Link says DOESN'T make sense due to it being...from an outsider's perspective utter nonsense (He knows Zelda lore lmfao.) but his claims Shadow just IS ganon are clearly getting to shadow cause he's got self doubt.

Meanwhile Green tries to remind him of his progress, and thinks Shadow and Dark could have something to bond over.

So if you're curious: My vision for Dark in this form is that speaking is VERY difficult for him to do so he just...doesn't.

This is his dormant form, so his "Functionality" is mostly...nonexistant.

This is a form that doesn't take a lot of effort to maintain or upkeep so his actual abilities aren't very wide.

Like he CAN talk. But simple phrases and words are easiest for him to do. Which is why he repeats "Yeah yeah" twice.

Shadow also fails to realize even THIS form was a step up from the fact Dark was a simple sphere with an eye before. XD

He grew a mouth to chew on Green...So he might have had the intention to speak last night and just...didn't.

But if he wanted to speak, he could just form back to his "Link" form or drag someone to the headspace.

Overall: Shadow ya dummy he probably just didn't have anything to say XD

Affectively, Green is just someone Dark considers his family so...he's his "dad". XD

The title switch from Shadow TO Green is due to the fact he just feels more comfortable and safe WITH Green.

I know in the draft comic folders I got a comic where Green treats Dark differently based on his form and how Dark doesn't understand that. (him being uncomfortable with the finger chewing in his Link disguise vs his dormant form for example) and how he thinks Green's a hypocrite.

Feel free to answer as many or as little of these questions as you want, I just would like to hear more experiences. (I tried to make the wording be inclusive as possible, but let me know if something is wrong.)

In your own words, how would you describe yourself/selves? As in, if you had to give some kind of metaphor to someone who does not understand medianhood, plurality, etcetera at all, how would you do so?

Do you distinguish yourself/selves at all? Like, are there any lines between one or the other? Such as having different names or different pronouns; or even something like you all like/use the same name(s) or pronoun(s), but some of you prefer one name/pronoun slightly more than the others?

Do you have any communication with each other? Or, is it more like you're simply existing in the same body with each other, like how two co-workers can be aware of each other but never really talk?

Can you/yourself/selves switch or front? What does it feel like, and how does it work? Or can you not switch/front?

If you are/in a chimera/hybrid system (have both multiple and median headmates), can you distinguish between multiple and median members? How so?

(Sort of a continuation of the above) again, if you are/in a chimera/hybrid system, and if you have a headspace of any sort, are there any differences between median and multiple headmates there?

i finally have the time and the right mindset to start focusing on souvenir pop and to actively listen to the songs, with thought and feel. so naturally, i’m also going to write my thoughts down. starting with ako toga više neće biti.

(as with other joker out songs, i'm not touching the lyrics bc i don't speak the language myself, i'll leave the lyrical analysis to those who do)

this song sounds sort of unpolished and rough around the edges and i absolutely love that, so so so much. especially the beginning sounds like a song played by some obscure band in the back of a bar - and i mean that in the best way possible. i mean that the song immediately has like an atmosphere to it, lots and lots of feeling. it builds a picture, it sounds smoky and hazy to me, and i adore that.

this is like the sister song of everybody’s waiting to me. the influences are similar, sort of 60’s sound, the keyboard elements are similar, and there’s similar emotional build in this. and if you don’t know how much i love everybody’s waiting, you can read about it here. but these two songs go hand in hand to me, and they feel so home-like to me. i love being in the musical world and in the emotional space both of these songs create. they’re beautiful.

i love that this song doesn’t go the most expected routes, but it also never gets too wacky. 

writing this analysis, i’ve spent hours working on my big käärijä rhyme scheme and flow analysis project today, so i was in the headspace of counting beats and bars. and so i did that with this song too, just to have the different sections written down for myself, and it actually really helped me to appreciate the structure of the song.

what i noticed is that they keep the song very lively and interesting by interjecting small sections that are different from everything around them. 

the first verse stays one way, one type of sound, until we get to “Pa da otvoriš vrata kô da ništa nije bilo” which is a different section, half the length of the part that came before it. we stop for a wee bit, to sort of take a breath and look at where we are.

and then we go again. and we get a section that again, stays one way, one type of sound, until we get to “Da se grlimo i ljubimo, grlimo i ljubimo, I da si šapćemo da se volimo, I da se sprdamo i smejemo dok si noge grejemo” which has it’s own sound, different to anything before it, most notably because of Bojan’s delivery. so we’ve already had like four different types of sections before the chorus, and interestingly, they weren’t all equal in length, which keeps the listener engaged. smart!

they keep this structure up throughout the whole song. mini transitions here and there that keep you engaged. i especially love both the guitar solo and the instrumental transition bit that comes right after it. you wouldn’t expect the keyboard to come forward like that after the solo, i think it’s a brilliant choice compositionally.

and then the chorus! the chorus sort of.. starts and then starts again. fascinating! so we get “Ako toga više neće biti, Ljubav je najobičnija laž” and then we get one count of four beats of just instrumental, and it feels like we’re building. and then, the same lyric again, almost like we’re starting the chorus again, “Ako toga više neće biti” and so are we going to get the same section again? no! straight into a key change and a musical direction we haven’t heard before. the two bits in the chorus, that both start with “ako toga”, are different from one another in a way that you wouldn’t necessarily expect the first time. and i really really love that, when music takes you on a journey, and you don’t know what the next turn is going to be.

love love love the solo btw, i only wish it was a wee bit louder in the mix.

this is a brilliant sound, they are all absolutely shining on this track. but i have to highlight one member above the others, i’m sorry.

it’s bojan.

first of all, i’m blindly believing this post that says he played the drums, i don’t know the source but i think it was questions directly at them somewhere..? anyway the reason why i’m perfectly willing to believe it is because listening to this song, i thought okay either jure is an absolute magician in creating wildly different sounds on the kit, or this isn’t him. because the drums sound.. sloppy. and again, i mean that in the best possible way. because it fits the overall sound so flipping well. they need to be like this. the drums need to be a wee bit rough and a wee bit “lazy” if you will. those are all things that the sound of the song needs. excellent excellent work there. and he’s not too shabby on the drums at all, there are some excellent cymbal details going on especially towards the end. amazing. and i do not doubt jure’s ability to recreate this sound live, but i think it’s very fitting that bojan played on the album.

and his vocal performance. 10/10 no notes. absolute perfection. exactly what the song needs. so much emotion, so many different emotions packed into the vocal performance, but not too much, he’s not trying to sell us the feeling, he’s just… feeling it himself, and the feeling transfers. i don’t even speak the language, but the feeling transfers. it’s a powerful vocal delivery and i adore him for it.

so all in all, one of my favourite tracks off the album. love it, love it, love it, and bojan in particular deserves a big hug and smooch for this.

Healthy D/s Dynamics 101:

I have never met any two kinksters who "play" in the same way, so I feel it's appropriate to lay out exactly the manner in which I approach BDSM. The long and short of my approach is based on experience, discussing at length with others, and various literature on the subject. I try to be as well-informed as possible.

Non-negotiables—

Safewords.

This should come as no surprise. These are the single most reliable way to ensure safety and prevent boundaries from being crossed.

Communication.

Constant communication is critical to a healthy relationship and particularly a healthy dynamic. Check-ins, re-negotiation, etc. should always be honored.

SSC.

This stands for “safe, sane, and consensual.” It’s a pillar of BDSM in general. Any kink or scene you partake in should be approached in a safe manner, in a sane headspace, and with the enthusiastic consent of all parties.

Boundaries.

These are hard limits, soft limits, and rules. These are inalienable lines you draw for your own safety and sanity. These should never, under any circumstance, be intentionally crossed. However, it is up to each individual to reiterate and establish them through communication and safewords.

Mutual Respect.

Despite the power exchange, each role in the dynamic should receive the same amount of respect as the other. All players should respect each other, and their limits.

No Surprises.

No punishment should come as a surprise to a sub. If the sub takes a misstep but was not informed prior, the most they should receive is a warning for the future. The sole exception to this rule is in pre-negotiation, but that technically takes the surprise away anyway.

Negotiation.

This is what makes the world go ‘round. Negotiation is a vital aspect of any D/s dynamic, as it establishes each player’s desires within the relationship. It establishes their needs, limits, safewords, interests, abilities, and more. Re-negotiation is encouraged. This is a huge part of good communication. Negotiation is brought up constantly because of how important it is. It is the ability to make requests, share ideas, veto decisions, and more.

Aftercare.

A BDSM dynamic can be strenuous on even the strongest will. It can erode emotional stability over time if anyone is neglected. Due to sub drops and Dom drops/breaks, aftercare is always a necessity.

Expectations—

>> unique to each individual dynamic

Expectations are generally established during the very beginning of a dynamic. These are discussed between all involved parties. There are a few general expectations that are prevalent in EVERY healthy dynamic, however:

The sub holds as much influence as the Dominant, and their word (concerns, critiques, etc.) should be respected. Although the submissive relinquishes power to their Dominant, it is an "illusion". The sub holds an imaginary big red button that stops everything, no matter what, if they push it. They have every ability to leave the dynamic, re- negotiate, pause, etc. While the Dominant is also capable of these things, they inherently have the advantage of the play power being in their court.

All parties should constantly strive to protect and improve the relationship. This is true of any relationship but is essential for D/s relationships. Any mistake on the Dom’s side could begin crossing the line to abuse; any hesitation on the sub’s end could result in harm.

Submission is earned, not taken. Many abusive Dominants will assume subs ought to submit to them, no matter what, and take advantage of submissives who struggle to set & maintain boundaries. It is important to remember that a sub is NEVER obligated to submit to anyone. They have inalienable rights and autonomy that cannot be infringed upon.

Dominance is given, not coerced. Just as submission cannot be taken, dominance can not be forced, either. It is a sign of an unhealthy sub if one tries to manipulate a Dominant into being in a dynamic with them or Dominating them at all.

Everything is mutually agreed upon. This circles back into communication, negotiation, and respected boundaries. No one should ever be made to do something they don’t want to do. Consent is critical. Always.

It’s all an illusion. As mentioned in the first general expectation: the sub doesn't actually have their autonomy or rights taken away. They're never truly made to do anything against their will. Their Dom serves them too, by offering them a safe space to release themselves of worldly stressors and submerge their psyches into the dynamic. Despite the constraints on a sub (such as the negotiated rules or habits), this offers many people freedom from responsibilities they have to do daily: decisions, initiative, etc. In this way—even in a slave/owner relationship—the Dominant is helping their submissive. By treating their sub well, a Dom earns their sub feeling safe to relinquish power and influence. A healthy Dom relishes this power exchange, and will never abuse it.

Wants & Needs—

This is a challenging topic to cover, as it is up to each individual to determine what their wants are versus their needs.

Everyone’s needs MUST be honored; wants should be heavily considered, but aren’t as necessary to remain happy.

The hierarchy of wants vs needs: The sub’s needs.* The Dom’s needs.* The Dom’s wants. The sub’s wants.

*Both are essentially equal in importance, but for simplicity's sake, they are listed sequentially.

“Needs” are imperatives. They are conditions that must be fulfilled in order to survive. Food, water, shelter, and a sense of safety are obvious needs. In the context of a relationship, there are also certain psychological and conditional needs, many of which revolve around a sense of emotional safety and security. These soft needs are every bit as important as the obvious hard physical ones. Needs should be communicated clearly between D/s partners as early as possible and updated as necessary as the awareness of new ones arises. There must be room within the dynamic for clear communication of needs by a submissive and the ability to revise or add to them as necessary…at any time. It is the responsibility of a Dominant to meet the needs of a submissive to the best of their ability at all times. Period.

“Wants” are things that are optional. They are desires, perhaps very strong ones, but are not necessary for physical or emotional safety or survival. Not getting what you want may sour your mood, ruin your day, or leave you feeling empty or unfulfilled, but they are not going to result in physical harm or long-term emotional decline or death. It is the Dominant’s prerogative to decide whether to grant or deny wants. This is, in point of fact, the place where the power exchange actually occurs. By giving the discretion over wants to a Dominant partner you are creating the space for the power imbalance to occur. A submissive does not get to choose when, if, or how wants are granted. That is the role of the Dominant, at least within predetermined and agreed-upon boundaries. Every relationship is different, and the guardrails of this space are highly individualized. Defining the scope of wants that are handed over to the authority of a Dominant is the reason we need to be clear and upfront with one another over the span of power being exchanged.

***a good example of this is NEEDING emotional connection to flourish within the dynamic, but WANTING spanks whenever possible.

The Players—

The Submissive:

The “passive” player. They consensually give up their agency and power within a relationship. They choose, instead, to act in tandem with their Dom’s lead: enthusiastically engaging in their loss of control.

Bad Subs…

Are disengaged. They expect their Dom to pull all the weight with no personal responsibility.

Do not use their safewords. They do not honor their own limits, or boundaries, and fear putting their foot down when necessary.

Do not represent themselves. They tailor their personality and interests exclusively to the Dominant they play with, without honoring their own desires.

Do not actually submit. They engage in the dynamic hoping to “flip the script,” sabotage their Dom, dominate their Dom, or otherwise are unwilling to act their part.

Expect their Dominants to do things their Dom isn’t comfortable doing.

Good Subs…

Are enthusiastic and engaged. They go along with the relationship happily, offering ideas, asking for negotiation, scenes, and reminding their Dom of their needs and wants.

Always use their safewords. They communicate when they’re approaching their limit, and pull the plug BEFORE their limits are broken. They keep in mind their own and their Dom’s safety.

Represent themselves unapologetically. These subs show up as their authentic selves, knowing what they need, what they want, and how to communicate this. They do not tolerate neglect.

Genuinely submit. They find freedom and joy in putting aside their control, to allow their Dom to take the reins for them. They love the release it brings and the escape from everyday mundanities.

Respect their Dom’s limits. They’re aware that the Dominant’s limits are just as important as their own, and do not take it personally if their Dom turns down an idea or rain checks something.

***What is a “sub drop”?

A sub drop is an emotional and physical low that can occur anywhere from a few hours to a few days after the emotional/hormonal high of a BDSM interaction. It’s most commonly experienced after a heavily intense scene, but may be triggered at surprising times. Due to the submissive’s conditioning, a sub’s brain will fill with endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin. This is a huge positive imbalance in their psychological chemistry. This is the rush that people feel when submitting. After, without proper “wind down” or “cool down,” the brain will experience a massive negative imbalance, as the brain returns itself to normal by depriving itself of these chemicals temporarily. It can cause anxiety attacks, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, depression, and many awful side-effects.

The Dominant:

The “active” player. They shoulder the lead position in the dynamic, and the burden of responsibility to maintain the sub’s best interests and safety at all times. They agree to assist their sub in escaping the displeasure of vanilla life.

Bad Doms…

Act out of selfishness. Everything they do is for their own benefit, with little to no regard for their sub.

Disguise abuse as BDSM. This is unfortunately easy to do. The D/s dynamic, in any other context, would be an abusive one. Without the safety net of negotiation, communication, and the dynamic as an illusion; the sub would be in a heavily abusive situation.

Expect submission. However, they do nothing to earn it. They simply engage in the dynamic to take advantage of subs who don’t know any better.

Prioritize their wants and needs over their sub’s needs and comfort. They hold apathy towards their sub, and use their sub to fulfill their own desires with no regard for their s.

Don’t give their subs a voice. They do not encourage negotiation or communication. They ignore sub’s ideas and wants.

Disregard safewords and boundaries. This is obviously a huge issue. Ignoring such things can risk a submissive’s safety and health; mental health included.

Can’t handle the responsibility. They find maintaining trust and the sub’s happiness to be “too much.” They don’t strive for their sub’s soul safety, and do not put in the work to be a happy place for their submissive.

Good Doms…

Act with selflessness. While their wants and needs are important, they are also happy when their sub is happy. Everything they do will help their submissive flourish in some way.

Put in the work to strengthen safety nets. They don’t ever allow the dynamic to cross the line into abuse. They are diligent in keeping things kosher and healthy.

Always earn submission. They understand the submissive’s independence and inherent value. They never attempt to take submission through force.

Prioritize their sub’s needs and comfort over their own wants and needs. They understand that, in such a power exchange, it is fundamental to fulfill their sub first and foremost. A fulfilled sub is a fulfilled Dom.

Will always respect their sub’s wishes. They never remove the sub’s voice and ability to make negotiations, ask for things, or offer ideas. Their sub is an important aspect of the dynamic’s success and they know this.

Never ignore a safeword. They will always respect boundaries. This includes consistent check-ins, breaks in heavy scenes, and aftercare.

Love the responsibility. Knowing they can uphold a place of peace for their sub gives them a rush. They love the exchange of trust—sometimes more than the exchange of power—and will do everything in their power to keep the dynamic healthy.

***What is a “Dom break”?

Also known as “Dom drop” or top drop.”This is the same thing as sub drop physically. Once you understand what sub drop is, and how it works, you will already understand Dom break. It is the same neurological consequence of riding such a hormonal high during scenes. As with sub drop, this can occur outside of scenes, too; and may be caused by surprising things.

Plotting out "Rainstar II" (Disney movie)

Background

Given the success of several recent sequels, Disney examines several films during the Resurgence Era that could prove to become a successful franchise. Given the popularity of superhero films, "Rainstar II" was greenlit, with the same cast and crew returning to make the film, and another soundtrack was crafted to play during the film in contrast to a traditional musical with the characters themselves singing. While the original idea was to keep the film set in the 1990's and influenced by several animated superhero shows of the same time, the team decided the unique idea of making the film take place in the 2000s, noting how comic books have a floating timeline, and took influence from the live-action superhero films of the 2000s, specifically X-Men, Spiderman, The Dark Knight, and Fantastic Four, as well as Jennifer Lee reading several 2000s Marvel comics to get into the right headspace to work on the characters. Disney accepts the idea, noting how pop culture has seen a revival of interest in the 2000s. That said, as they continue working on the story, they realize that they don't want to paint themselves into a corner with the action and scale. Scrapping an idea from a superpowered villain, the antagonist of the film is instead changed to a regular person, making it challenging for Rainstar to fight against her, especially as she is influential and positively received by the citizens of the city. Originally the antagonist was going to be a politician, but Disney felt that political climate would give the film bad press (tbf this is written as a future film at least a decade from now, but the perspective I'm writing this from is present-day), so she's changed from a mayor to a businesswoman. They take inspiration from Lex Luther, with her personality being changed from an impulsive, ignorant superhero opposer to a more calculated and measured supervillain. While Disney had some grumbling, they ultimately allowed the team to keep the sequel 2D.

Plot

In the '90s, Phoenix Crown was an up-and-coming city. However, the uptick in crime has tarnished it's start into the new millennium, with their only hope being the heroic team who protects them. But these superheroes can only beat supervillains. When a clever obstacle steps in their way and uses only their words, they may find that the city they protected now sees them as their biggest problem. To unify the city once more and keep them safe, our heroes must find a way to defeat this new threat without even fighting them.

Characters

(As usual, this is not a comprehensive list of characters by any stretch of the imagination, but the main players you need to know, in a bare bones format. As such, the songs also reflect this list, likely only making songs for the characters provided. The images below would serve as inspiration for the characters' designs and/or personalities.)

Rainstar--She can't catch a break. At first, her time as PC's hero was met with skepticism, and then cautious optimism, then adoration. Now, it's filled with suspicion, and her cynical mindset is starting to rear it's head again; she can't even focus on her new relationship! And worse of all is the new multibillionaire whose very critical of her enitre existence, a stark difference from Sundial. With the constant occassions where her heroism is called into question and her personal life being erased as she spends more time as a hero, she's at her limit.

Glasseye--As Rainstar continues to try to juggle superheroism on her own, he decides to obey her wishes and focus on his personal life, ironically frustrating his partner even more. On the verge of giving up his superhero life entirely and just using his superpowers here and there, he decides to done his costume once more to confront the woman so intent on destroying their reputation. However, he underestimates just how far she's willing to go to have her way.

Samara Parker--The most dangerous woman in Phoenix Crown (which is saying something since Rainstar lives there). Constantly undervalued in her youth and overshadowed by anyone who was seen as more intelligent or talented, she finds superhumans...threatening, to say the least. Her desire for control and attention has helped her as a businesswoman (more or less), but the idea that superheroes would always leave her accomplishments overshadowed left her somewhat annoyed. While originally trying to dismiss them as the cause of PC's problems, their continued success, adoration by the citizens, and, worst of all, their defiance of her, makes her focus on them a lot more than anyone originally planned.

(Once more, this film would include a soundtrack, but since I'm unsure about the artists I'd want for it, I'm not gonna include the songs in this post.)

Hello. I am currently nearing my mid 20's and still have a hard time making peace with how my body looks. I've been bullied because of it for all my life, both from schoolmates years back and even family. Over time, I realize it became a constant part of me, and even my inner voice now mimics the same sentiments when I look into reflective surfaces.

Sometimes, I thought I was getting better, that I am coming to terms with how I am, but it's always a fleeting thing, and one comment about my looks or a simple bad day takes me back to square one. Because of this, I've let a lot of opportunities pass me by, deem myself unworthy of things that I think I do not deserve just because I'm fat, and it's taking a huge chunk out of me.

My question is, is there a way how to cope with this? Does it really get better? Would I really get better? It's getting tiring most times, to live in a body that you hate and hates you.

I'm sorry for dumping all this in your ask, and I'd completely understand if you ignore it. You're just one of the people I look up to in this app, and your works have sparked the idea to me that I, a fat person, can be loveable too. And thank you so much for that.

Hi! Sorry for the long answer, I don’t know if this is helpful this is just my experience.

So, to start with, I totally get the external voices becoming internal. My mother cannot handle the fact that I’m fat and always have been (I was literally a 10lb baby). Growing up she was very cruel about it and essentially taught me anorexia starting around age 8. It can be really hard to push those voices away but you have to keep reminding yourself they are external. They are not you - they are other people with their own issues and hang ups. Easier said than done ik but it’s good to keep in mind.

I would say it’s super important to get rid of the idea that your body hates you. It doesn’t - it’s just doing it’s best to keep you alive. That’s it’s only goal. Something that has helped me is separating my body from myself and making it just something I take care of. Like a plant. I feed and water it and let it do it’s thing.

It’s always going to be a flip flopping battle. Some days will always be bad. I think the best goal is neutrality. When I stopped trying to force myself to love my body and sought neutrality I made so much more progress. Now I’ve come to mostly love my body as it is, but learning to be neutral to it first really was the thing that got the ball rolling in a positive direction.

Some steps that helped me a lot were only following plus size fashion vloggers/influencers. Especially if you can find people with the same body type as you. Another was simply not looking in mirrors too much. I’d get stuck staring at my reflection and just only looking in passing for a while helped a lot.

I hope this helps. It makes me really happy that you find solace in my works - that’s a big part of why I started writing them for myself! Us fat babes are hot and I stand by that whether or not everyone sees it🫶

now if jihyo was in a headspace where she was able to walk, she would find jeongyeon, telling jeongyeon that nayeon was being mean, jihyo was just playing, she promised! and due to how cute jihyo was, jeongyeon, never could believe that jihyo would purposefully cause trouble. how could she? just the sweetest little thing who just wanted cuddles. jihyo became to associate jeongyeon with a way to escape her scoldings, only giggling when jeongyeon tried to tell her she needed to start watching her behaviors, need to start learning to follow the rules.

but no matter how much of a strain that jihyo could put between the two eldest, nothing would make nights better unless nayeon, jeongyeon and jihyo all wound down together. usually watching a movie, jihyo nuzzling against jeongyeon’s chest until she inevitably falls asleep, nayeon asleep on jeongyeon’s shoulder, and jeongyeon leaning her head against nayeon!s, where only about a half an hour later, the other members find them asleep, trying to convince all three of them to go to bed.

🍄 - how did you get your system name?

we based it off our headspace, or rather- the initial overall impression and presence we feel of it. "dusk and cloudy".

ie - transcribed as "dusk & cloudy", or the symbols "⚫☁" :)

the modification of the "&" symbol is a nudged reference to it being a symbol of plurality, and to reference our existence as multiples in a shared headspace (and quite frankly- we do enjoy the simplification of it as opposed to just the word "and" on its own.)

"⚫☁" is a nod towards to, and represents, the abstractness we feel of what we currently are aware of regarding our shared headspace.

yes, that would be all of us. :) or at least, those that we are aware of..

as of currently:

🔵's base form on its own is typically robotic and small, although it has "projected" forms that can constantly shift - affected by the forms of those who are in co-front or co-consciousness.

the form of 🫧 is heavily influenced by and akin to a design of the collective's internet "sona", playfully referred to as 'our mascot'.

this 'mascot' design is of an elastic, toon-like floating orb with detached 'glove-like' hands. I believe xis form can be lightly compared to as being similar to those found in the Kirby series..

( 🌱: uhh...... i guess im kinda like- the mimigas from CS and boss monsters from UT ? except darker fur. and uh..... more void-ish. anthromorphic.... dark goat.. thing. pretty much. )

i accidentally took over uh. guess i'll keep? writing stuff ? anyways. theres others here- tho rn they're either kinda like- formless vapor 'clouds' of different colors - or some other kind of humanoid-ish form thing that aren't really human but uh.... human adjacent. if that makes sense. am not really as wordy as aslo.

aslos also kinda got a thing rn where their form ''shifts'' ? tho we been thinking that might be cause theyre maybe a subsystem feelin others. either that or theres just some others on another layer that just feel naturally more flocked - tethered- to them. when co-conning etc .

cause i still faintly felt wisp (theyre cool with their name being shared) close while typing. as opposed t'when just me 'sliding' in by aslo on the same level. or smth.... like that.

oh and i forgot to say. usually aslos kinda like a bipedal ghost thing- more phasey and abstract. and short. sometimes they can be more solid less ghost-y if they feel it. also ironically wisp isn't a ghost theyre a robot.

💬 - free space!! tell me about something!

lately found out our way of co-con (or co-front not rlly sure which it is) is kinda like layering :] mainly with the subsystem am in with 🔵. us in there that aren't 🔵 kinda feel we layer over em. (makes sense with the emotion thoughts bleedover thing i think )

same is prob with aslo, wisp, and maybe some others (not anyones that spoken on blog) if am assuming right. kinda weird and interesting tho cause i could feel wisp faintly at times when aslo wasnt super close to co-con. (tho aslo was also kinda not 'far' so guessin maybe wisp was still sorta 'dangling' a bit from them from above the other layer )

from what i felt from wisp theres still a 'natural' more grounding draw to aslo .

also from what am gettin from 🔵- the layering thing only really applies to our subsystem and prob whatever deals goin on with wisp. ✨ and 🎭🐛 feel more on the same 'level' as 🔵 from what am feelin from xem - i guess kinda like me aslo and 🫧 bein on the same 'level'.

except ✨ / 🎭🐛s presences or smth can feel more distant more times to xher and its more like those two are reaching out from afar and only sometimes standing 'next' to xim .
