I'm up way later than I need to be and listening to music while I draw and this song gives me SUCH Sabo feelings and I would love to hear your opinions!! (Never Love An Anchor by The Crane Wives)
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Y07xArvIvjw&si=ffMbMHTWuHHnxY2C
You dare bring. The Crane Wives. Into this peaceful household.
Never Love an Anchor no less.
RELATING THE SONG TO THE BLORBO FROM MY SHOW NO LESS
The audacity.
Anyway.
youtube
Yeah it makes me think about how Sabo left Ace and Luffy on his own accord at the end. Of course it was a last resort but he left them because he knew that this was the only way for them all to be free.
He left knowing that he would probably not see him until they were 17. Or maybe even never again.
He left them so that they could be safe. Because as long as long as he was with him, as far as he could see, hands would still try to claim him, resulting in the ones he loves getting hurt.
There was no winning for Sabo or any of them. As long as he tried delaying the inevitable, it just never would have happened.
He had to give up what he loved so he could keep it.
And then after he regains his memories, him thinking how much he’s changed. His claws might hurt the one he loves so dearly, even though at this point he doesnt even know him anymore. What if when Luffy finds out that he was alive, it only hurts him deeper. Knowing that there was someone who would have made a difference that day wasnt there. Reliving not only that day in the moment of reuniting, but the say he lost Sabo, too.
I dont find it strange that Sabo didnt try to reunite with Luffy until dressrosa. And in fact i think that reuniting with luffy is something he did as an absolute last resort. I think he truly didnt want to meet him that day at all.
In the anime alone, it doesnt much show it, but in the manga and the Episode of Sabo his hesitance and nerves are really clear to me. He takes a second before he starts walking to talk to luffy. His hand is clutched and shaking. He walks as slowly as he can. And also he only does it after he knows that Luffy cant get the fruit.
They both need that fruit safe. An heirloom of their precious brother, the only thing they have left that can life on from him.
If Luffy could’ve finished that tournament, im fairly certain Sabo would’ve never revealed himself.
I think he feels like he might hurt luffy if he did, but i also think that he didnt feel he deserved it. To reunite with Luffy after all that time. After all that happened.
Going back to the song, the lyrics
“So, I did the only thing that i could And severed the rope to set you sailing from my harbor.”
Even though it was Sabo who went sailing from the harbor, what he was doing was sever the rope from his connections with luffy and Ace so that they could grow and be free without worrying about being held back by him and the weight of his life keeping him suffocating at the bottom of the harbor he’s being drowned in.
If sabo had successfully left Goa that day, and he had reunited with Ace or Luffy somewhere down the line, i think he would act the same way he did in dressrosa that day. I think he would feel his baggage is too much, someone could be after him. And he wouldnt want to reunite. Especially after how he left them.
To me, that letter didnt read as a “i hope i see you again”, but a “goodbye forever”. Which i mean,,,, it was one, at least in Ace’s case, so … 🤷♀️ kill me
Anyway, the sentencing of your crimes of Crane Wives-ing me will be capital punishment, i hope you understand.
Thanks for the ask!

2023 Fall Anime
This is honestly a loaded season full of new shows based on relatively new manga. Lots to look forward to
Spy x Family - Season 2 One of the most fun SJ series that have come out in a while. Season 1 was killer, high hopes for season 2.
Goblin Slayer 2 I didn't realize they were even making a second season. This was such a killer series. I'm really hoping they don't fall into the many mid-tier fantasy tropes out there in anime right now. I thought the appeal of the show was really Goblin Slayer himself and less about the lackeys along the way. So we'll see how it goes.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End This is definitely one of my highly anticipated series. It's about an elf who was part of the Hero's party and her life after he dies. (Since elves live longer) Definitely a darker take on fantasy but has some really solid fantasy and adventure vibes.
Rising of the Shield Hero - Season 3 Season 2 was pretty disappointing and slow. While this looks like it'll be more fast paced, it does look like a tournament arc of sorts. I know some aren't a fan of that kind of arc, but honestly I think it's exactly what this series needs to pick things up again. We'll see.
The Faraway Paladin - Season 2 This was legitimately one of my favourite fantasy series. I thought it was really well written and didn't rush things like other series. I'm looking forward to this season.
Sequels/Continuations: Eminence in Shadow - Season 2 killer series with an anti-hero main character. Definitely worth checking out. After-School Hanako-Kun Hanako-kun spin off Dr. Stone Season 3 - Part 2 One of the best novel concept series with nothing else in it's genre to compare to. Definitely didn't drop the ball on the recent seasons and still worth watching. Dead Mount Death Play - Part 2 One that I didn't particularly enjoy, but has a decent sized manga following. Tokyo Revengers - Tenjiku Arc The continuation of the series. Might be just me but it feels like the series fell off after the first season. The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent - Season 2 A more mature take on fantasy isekai that just started to get into romance at the end of last season. A solid combo of shoujo genres. The Ancient Magus' Bride - Season 2 Part 2 One that I haven't had a change to check out yet but have only heard good things about. Hypnosismic - Season 2 a weirdly addictive musical/rap series. Unique characters and honestly solid rap battles. One I'll be enjoying. -- Related - Paradox Live - Music battle with what looks to be the same style of animation and solid character design. Definitely worth looking at if you're a fan of Hypmic. The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse A sequel of SDS. Looks like it could be a fun watch for the fans of the series. New:
Shangri La Frontier A new manga fantasy series. This may be a horrible way to describe but it is what it is - a new age SAO- full dive fantasy game. A gamer who only plays shit games, gets into a new massively popular MMORPG and is op. One that I'm excited for because it ticks all the fantasy game boxes I like.
Undead Unluck A relatively new manga series that gained a lot of traction in the last year or two. A gory action comedy that's super chaotic and a lot of fun.
Shy Brand new hero manga series about a shy girl and her anxieties and struggles going into the hero world who grows and gains confidence as she becomes a better hero.
Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions This is a manga series that I have kept forgetting the name of so never got a chance to read but all the covers for the manga look phenomenal. Likely the anime doesn't do him justice but it is what it is. Essentially sherlock in anime form. A PI with issues and the wholesome police detective work together to solve crime. Other New Series: Green - Fantasy Pink - Romance Red - Action Purple - Drama The Kingdoms of Ruins A world where witches were hunted down by humans as science surpassed magic. A kid who was raised by a witch swears revenge on mankind. This honestly looks solid. The animations are very cool looking and the mc seems to be an anti-hero. Will be looking at this one. Under Ninja A well known manga series about modern ninjas. Definitely a unique series for this season. The Apothecary Diaries A historical medical mystery show. I've heard the name before and I've also only heard good things. Will be worth a watch. A Girl & Her Guard Dog The granddaughter of a crime syndicate goes to highschool out of town and the current young boss lies his way into the same school. Would be cute romance if it weren't for the fact she's 15 and he's 26.. Butareba - The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig What the title says. A girl finds him and the story goes from there. I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness The usual light novel title. Honestly, doesn't seem as yikes as I initially thought, might just be harmless breaking the rules kinda thing. Could be fun, also a Capybara that strikes fear into people's hearts. My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer Looks like a wholesome series where an adventurer finds a baby, raises it and she becomes so strong she's busy working all the time. Just a cute father daughter relationship in a fantasy setting about her wanting to come take time to see him but being caught up in OP fantasy battles. Ragna Crimson Dragons vs Humanity - a human and a dragon team up to destroy all the dragons. Action fantasy series. Berserk of Gluttony I honestly added this because I thought it was hilarious. Looks like a combo of knock offs - the Gluttony skill from Tensura (reincarnated as a slime) and the mc being called Fate with the main girl who looks exactly like Sabre. I'll be skipping but its' here so you know.

Get to know me tag ✨️
thank you to @greentea-and-honey for tagging me! Really, thank you for thinking of me c: i'll chooooooooose @thevoidinyourstomach @fragilefirstchance @hamncheese1995 and @toxictoad . You don't have to participate, of course c:
Last song: Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish. It's my new depression song. Also my happiness/neutrality song. I just like depressing music!
Favorite color: it's tied between purple and that specific, rich shade of mulberry that's a good mix of red and pink
Last book: Journal 3. I'm writing out translations of the various codes in the book, so it's taking a while. Alsooooo I took a break because I've pretty much been drawing the whole time I'm awake lately
Last TV show: Culinary Class Wars. God, it's so funny. It's so overdramatic, overproduced, over the top in general. They just lowered like 500 pounds of tofu onto the stage from the ceiling, on a palette suspended by chains, with the whole thing lit by SO MANY SPOTLIGHTS. It's absurd and I love it
Sweet/spicy/savory: i love both sweet and salty, so luckily, they don't conflict here!
Last thing i googled: "janitor team with equipment." It's for something I'm drawing. Not gonna draw the equipment, though
Current obsession: Gravity Falls! All of my other interests have receded into the void. Maybe I'll see them again someday
Looking forward to: the only thing i can really think of is the second season of Dungeon Meshi. I really loved the first season, so much so that I went and read the whole manga, which is rare for me. It has become my favorite manga/anime. I particularly love Laios! I relate to him a lot. Oh, also, my friend is coming over to celebrate Thanksmas with me and my dad, and I'm hoping that will be fun! It'll be different this year, due to a family loss, so I'm glad she can come
#text#i don't know why anyone would care about any of this#but i am fulfilling my duty as a member of The Tagged#mulberry is such a broad range of shades but there's only one i really love#i don't know if it has like a sub name

11 and 24 for the fandom ask thingy (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
11. Most unique merch you have for a fandom?
It would probably have to be my tiny ideals journals (normal sized Kunikida journal for size reference)! 📚📗
- Mod Hawkeye 🦅
24. Funniest fandom-related story?
Okay, so we’ve had Mod Hawkeye’s funny story about getting me into anime…
Now, it’s time for my funny story about giving Mod Hawkeye Black Butler brainrot 😌
Black Butler was one of the first animes I got into after falling down the rabbit hole with Ace Attorney, so OBVIOUSLY I tried to get Mod Hawkeye into it by showing them the Jack the Ripper (Red Butler) arc. This first attempt failed, and Mod Hawkeye did not bite 🥲
Fast forward quite a few years to 2023 when Crunchyroll announced the unexpected return of Black Butler for the Public School Arc. Mod Hawkeye, in their folly, agreed to indulge me and watch the Book of Circus arc (I had spent years by this point saying this was the BEST animated arc as it finally, finally followed the manga).
So, we watched half of it.
Mod Hawkeye’s interest was piqued this time.
A short while later we watched the second half.
BUT it still wasn’t full on brainrot.
So, I told Mod Hawkeye that I had never seen Book of Murder or Book of Atlantic because, for some reason, Crunchyroll does NOT want to provide access to these in our country 😒
However, we were eventually able to find and watch both. Book of Murder we didn’t love 😅😶 but Book of Atlantic we adored 😍
And that, as they say, was that.
Book of Atlantic was the tipping point for Mod Hawkeye’s brainrot 😌 mostly because it fully introduces Ronald Knox, leading us to ship the rarest of rarepairs: Sebastian x Ronald
Now, Mod Hawkeye has seen Book of Atlantic countless times (more than me!) and has even scavenged and scrounged for Black Butler MUSICAL clips just for more content 👀
Mod Hawkeye now owns a Sebastian plushie and the manga for the Book of Atlantic arc so the indoctrination is complete 😌
- Mod Mustang 🔥
#Boat arc ruined my life (affectionate) - Mod Hawkeye 🦅#the dubbed films were so hard to find so if anyone else has been scouring let us know - Mod Hawkeye 🦅#I have them - Mod Hawkeye 🦅#also you know it’s bad when I reach musical clips level - Mod Hawkeye 🦅#also listen the reaper/demon dynamic is part of what had me giving it all another shot - Mod Hawkeye 🦅#fma#fmab#fullmetal alchemist#metal meme#fullmetal alchemist brotherhood#ask us anything!#black butler#kuroshitsuji#ronald knox#sebastian michaelis#bungou stray dogs#kunikida doppo#BSD

listening
sligo river blues performed by john fahey. part of the point of doing this weekly is when i sit down to draft these, i am occasionally forced to go "ooh. i forgot to listen to music while pacing around last week. maybe that's why i was a tremendous cunt and wanted to claw out of my own skin."
anyway i care about two people on tiktok and one of them is a couple renovating a stunning house in the pacific northwest from a level 5 hoard (DK Dreamhouse), and one is this guy dylanwesch who is i guess music nerd tok? a lot of ambient stuf which i love to click around on the computer to. listened to part of this album while debugging a GIS problem this week

reading
i read six books this week, which is really the clearest possible sign i need to up my antidepressants. read the shepherd king duology by rachel gillig (Fine but i had some issues with the authorial style, felt very YA as opposed to NA, did have a very cool magic system, unfortunately i liked the second couple’s banter and relationship Way More than the main couple’s). finished the last three books in the temeraire series, i have not much to say about them except i adored them wholeheartedly. also before i read those i wrote all the below in a fit of pique
the great state of west florida by kent wascom. instagram kept serving me ads for this book and i am once again a little unnerved by meta's advertising.
publishers' weekly synopis
In Wascom’s wacky and wild fourth adventure for the Woolsack clan (after The New Inheritors), lawless gunslingers and reactionary Christian nationalists face off in a divided Florida. The year is 2026 and 13-year-old orphan Rally Woolsack is rescued from the abusive foster family who brought him to Louisiana by his long-lost uncle Rodney, who regularly responds to challenges of mortal combat on the app DU3L. Rally is thrilled to get away from his tormentors and return to Florida, although it turns out Rodney has pulled him from the frying pan into the fire. Troy Yarbrough, a state legislator whose family runs a creepy evangelical Christian college in its mansion on Florida’s panhandle, has introduced a bill calling for the region to secede from the state. Rally, reckoning with the long-running bad blood between his family and the Yarbroughs, derides Troy’s vision as a “Jesus-riddled white ethnostate with a beachside pastel tinge.” With the bill on the floor of the state legislature, and with everyone packing firearms, the Florida Wars begin. Fans of pulpy dark humor will relish the climactic showdown between Yarbrough’s henchmen and those loyal to an elusive figure called the Governor, as right-wing nutjob Troy is saddled by mad cow disease and Rally is rescued by his crush. This high-octane satire feels all too plausible. Agent: Gail Hochman, Brandt & Hochman Literary. (May)
i had some trouble with this one! on its face it seems like the kind of thing i would eat with a spoon. in practice it's more of a coming-of-age than a just-before-the-apocalypse story and i have a lot of trouble relating to a thirteen-year-old boy. even if he is bisexual. in this interview wascom says he's "re-mythologizing the Western" which i can kind of see? it's very pulp and ultra-violent in a spaghetti western kind of way, and seems written in a way easily adaptable to the screen. not quite vaporwave but a lot of anime influence: the author thanks twelve Japanese directors and manga artists at the end of the book.
there's an odd authorial quirk where the thirteen-year-old boy often points out (internally and externally) that the adults in his life are just talking at him about politics. which is a pretty accurate portrayal of childhood, but lampshading it in this way doesn't really make me excited about wascom's authorial chops? this is your fourth book. this book revolved around a couple brutal fight scenes (and one giant setpiece crowd scene, which has vibes and atmosphere in spades), and that's a perfectly fine reason to write a book, but if that's your strength i would be very happy to have you focus on that instead of sections where both the kid and i the reader are bored.
there's a scene with babysitter/babysittee sexual abuse that unlocks how the abused character makes decisions for the rest of his life, but it was extremely graphic and i wasn't really prepared for that. i don't know that i would have read this book if i had that knowledge aforethought.
overall not quite what i wanted it to be: the author in this interview said he's been working on it for over a decade and had to keep throwing out parts coming true during trump's presidency. i picked this pulpy novel up as an escape from the terrible politics of today, which is not what this books is. i don't know if i buy that he was simply too good at predicting the future, but i do like the choice stated in his interview "I abandoned the predictive stuff and tried to tell a story like it was written on an obelisk in the future, like what Denis Johnson did with Fiskadoro, or Joanna Russ with The Female Man". it does feel very much like the narrator from Mad Max 2 telling his story of meeting Max as a feral kid. again, some interesting ideas in here, does deliver on the Southern Gothic doomed political family aspect, as well as the same flavor of heat-wave climate tragedy as JG Ballard's The Drowned World, but i would have liked to focus more on his cool furiosa-like aunt in a white mustang with an anime mech arm. criminally underused character

watching
watched The Hunter (2011, dir. Nettheim) because of the Temeraire books! they used an archaic name for Tasmania that made me go “where the Fuck is that” and then i looked at the media mentions section of the wikipedia page. beautiful film in a very spare way. lots of long loving shots of willem defoe in the wilderness enduring various weather conditions.
i don’t know if it stuck the landing quite as well as i would like, but like defoe you fall in love with the land and the family so slowly it’s very startling when you finally do fully realize it. i think i was supposed to cry at the end but didn’t quite manage it. one of my favorite springsteen songs is part of the diagetic score in a way that made me cry, which i also did not expect.

shoutout to the Thing Matching genre of phone game. this one is very much watch-ads-to-win but the levels are pretty long and i like shuffling objects around while listening to podcasts and trying to fall asleep

Round 1
Propaganda why Meliodas is insufferable:
"Saw him on the list and it uncovered repressed memories of the fact that Seven Deadly Sins was one of the first non-Nicktoons rerun anime I ever saw (my parents had Netflix and this was one of their first original anime).
Anyway you probably know this shit by now but bros a fucking molester. I didn't even watch past Season 1 but ain't he a groomer too?"
"Can not stop being a weirdo for A SINGLE SECOND! literally be serious for a single minute and stop groping the 16 year old."
"The first chapter of the damn manga is him sexually assaulting an unconscious teenage girl as if it’s supposed to be relatable and funny so I think that’s enough said"
Propaganda why Kvothe is insufferable:
"sorry that all the women fall into his strong muscular musical arms without any effort from his side. Forget the fact that he is the best at anything and can do whatever OP stuff in necessary, he has PROBLEMS. also he's still 17."
"Oh boy, a gobzillion pages of how virile the not-an-author-standin is. This is the perfect thing to recommend to people looking for literacy fantasy!"
"He’s described as normal, but every woman falls in love with him and he’s immediately really good at everything he does. Basically an author’s self-insert, hetero fantasy."

I am currently rewatching and rereading Parasyte. I'm really glad that I watched the anime before I picked up the manga when I first came across the story. Otherwise, I would have enjoyed the anime a lot less. The anime, in the first episode alone, made three changes I really dislike.
The first is one that happens a lot in TV which I hate, which is where the first episode shows scenes in non-chronological order. It is just unnecessarily confusing. The original showed them in sequence and I see no reason to deviate from it. Its not like the original took too long to get to the gory stuff that grips attention.
The second is that they added an accidental boob grab. I must have excised it from my memory, because it caught me completely off guard. It adds nothing to the plot or the dynamic between the characters and just makes the show more awkward to recommend to non-weebs since it is in an early scene of the first fucking episode. I think my initial opinion of the show would have been lower if I had been introduced to it via the first episode rather than midway through.
The third is adding a 'zero to hero' plot. Shinichi in the original manga was just an ordinary dude. He wasn't scared of bugs, and he wasn't awkward around Murano. They even gave him glasses in the anime to up his Peter Parkeriness. They must have thought 'oh no, our protagonist is not a loser, he won't be relatable to our audience!'. Fuck off, that is insulting. Okay, look, I get it. They probably added it because that way there is more of a contrast between the before and after in his character arc. Put I think they missed the point. Parasyte is not a story about a loser boy becoming an awesome action hero. It is a story about an ordinary high schooler thrust into a dangerous situation, losing both his ordinary life as well as his humanity, only to regain both by the end of the story, but having grown through the trials he overcame in between. In the manga, the initial scenes with him focus on how Migi disrupts his ordinary life. Migi morphs into various things which Shinichi has to hide, including a giant Phallus while he is in a restaurant! Its pretty funny actually, and sadly missing from the anime. The manga already has the main character go through enough change (its probably the best part of the story). It didn't need more.
I don't really mind them changing the setting to contemporary modern day rather than the nineties when the original manga was written, though I do think that it is a bit unnecessary.
I do actually like the anime. The animation, music (dubstep is cool) and voice acting are all great. Well, except for that one shot of really bad CG they used for random students walking to the school.
Also, Migi is just the cutest little psychopath. I luv it. Speaking of, diversity win! The cold-blooded alien parasite, by virtue of having no apparent capacity to reproduce or interest in human values, is nonbinary! Migi and its relationship to its host Shinichi is definitely the best part of the series for me. Its a fascinating situation, where a very rational but completely amoral alien and a conscientious human have to share a body and cooperate despite their differences. What I find very endearing about Migi is that it is actually very reasonable and always wishes to work together with its host when possible. All of the evil aliens in the story are actually very cooperative in nature, which I really like. Smart villains are great.
One final remark: Its funny how my view on the body horror in the story has changed. When I first saw some scene or ad for the anime, I was convinced I would never watch a show that disgusting. When a friend of mine was watching it though, I actually really got into it, and basically watched it in spite of the gross body horror. At some point, I watched it because (but not only because) of the body horror. Tastes change, huh.

Hello.....If you don't mind me asking, can I ask, what are your top 7 favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series/etc) and your top 10 favorite (fictional) characters from any media? Why do you love them all? Sorry if you've answered this questions before......
Interesting specific.......
7 media huh?
SLC Punk - live action movie from the 90s about Punks in Salt Lake City during the 80s. As a trans person that grew up in Arizona in a region populated by a ton of Mormons I sorta related to it kinda and nowadays I feel like it's actually a really funny, really scary, and really beautiful movie that gets overlooked a lot.
The Shining by Stephen King (book) - it's not my favorite horror novel and it's not my favorite Stephen King novel, but it was the book that got me to enjoy horror. The story is so scary and good, the characters are fleshed out, and there's a whole underlying dialogue about abuse and alcoholism that's very scary. Which is part of why I don't like the movie, cuz the movie adaption (erases the usefulness of the titular "Shining") sorta erases the personal story about alcoholism and abuse. And, it's definitely there still, it focuses more of its efforts on just being a spooky haunted hotel, it's style over substance to me. The connection of the personal and horror made me sort of see the true story telling value of the genre, and now I'm like. In love with horror.
Inside Mari by Shuzo Oshimi (manga) - the best way to explain this is, what if Freaky Friday were more of a psychological horror. Reading Inside Mari has been a very important thing to me as an adult, I sorta see myself in it and there's so much trans emotions in this (there's a whole thing that Oshimi is probably trans), this work is so dear to me I refuse to read to watch other people's take or interpretations, which sounds bad but I just want my special thing that I interpret my way to be interpreted my own way. It's amazing and I love it. All of Oshimi's work has hit me in a personal place.
Wandering Son by Takako Shimura (manga) - one of the first portrayals of a trans person I saw in manga, and honestly still one of the best. There's a lot of criticisms we could give it, but I love it and I related to it so much. It was nice to see a story follow such a young trans girl (and boy) and see them grow. Probably part of why I decided to finally identify as trans.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion (anime movie) - this one is largely just emotional stuff that's coincidental. The original Madoka tv show (and thus first two movies) were great but I never thought it was perfect, but Rebellion emotionally murdered me and as everything else mentioned, it felt so relatable. Came out in a very important time frame for bonding when my husband, so I got to see it in theaters with him (twice technically, we went a second time with a friend) plus I got to see it with another friend (three times total) hehe. It's just like, a very big date for my husband and I, I remember it perfectly down to what I had for dinner (my first bowl of professional made ramen lmao). The movie just, really hit, and the circumstances around seeing it were just really important to me.
Lateralus by Tool (album) - I'm sure some people are gonna be like "whaaaa how edgy loser" or whatever about this. But Lateralus was an important album for me cuz it introduced me to larger intellectual concepts I'd never considered before, made me really fall in love with that brand of music, and was one of those things I would put on repeat when I felt very depressed (read: dysphoric). I know the members have sorta grown into shitty people (namely Maynard) but this album is just very important to me.
I'm just going to say The Green Knight (movie), there's a lot I want to put here, especially a lot about Arthurian literature, but I think the best way to just, placeholder all the Arthurian shit I'm obsessed with. The Green Knight is a fantastic adaptation that's incredibly beautiful and well acted. Love it.
tbh w/ you I don't wanna do characters rn so if you swing back by later I might.

for the character ask game: I'll throw Light at you :D I figure he might be an interesting one for the "first impression" vs "what do you think of him now" comparison
oh lord. that might be kinda difficult actually asldfkjsdklfj i started reading DN sooooo long ago... BUT i will do my best!! (ask game)
first impression: i genuinely don't remember all that well. to be entirely honest, i don't know if i even thought about him all that much at first-- if i'm not Fixated on a story for some reason (like Serious fixations that i blog about a lot on here, or even just paying extra close attention like for an assignment or something since i watch a lotta movies for film classes) i tend to not do a whole lot of analysis for my first go at a story =3=" like i'm almost Always shocked by plot twists cause i won't even bothering stopping to think "oh shit, what's gonna happen next," i'll just be too Invested in the Moment to think ahead. (guess i kinda do that in actual irl social situations too... all my thinking comes afterwards LMFAO i'm very no thoughts head empty all Survival Instinct when i'm talking to people. whoops.) the fact that i started reading the manga way back in my freshman year of high school (Quite a few years ago now) also doesn't help. lmfao. and also the fact that i stopped reading midway through like, vol. 9/10... ;w;
if i had to guess though, i think my (somewhat fandom-osmosis influenced) view of him was that he was kind of an uptight dumbass with highly questionable morals. scrolling all the way back through the death note tag on my archive kinda points at this, like my mild amusement at these three posts speaks to that kind of surface level view of him. i certainly didn't have a lot of nuance or original hot takes involved in how i thought of him-- not until this post fucking exploded my mind a couple months ago and dragged me into the Trenches for good. idk though, i think a lot of my currents views on him were still present, just kind of dormant or not yet evolved...
impression now: my beautiful evil wife. next question
favorite moment: ehehe i've said this before, but his death!! in the manga specifically, but i enjoy any solid light death in any adaptation (the stairs in the anime & requiem in the musical, in particular). i think i've read the last few chapters of DN the most overall, from his speech until those 2 black pages... this panel is forever burned into my mind as one of if not The best page in the entirety of DN to me.
perhaps i'm just biased since i re-read the entirety of DN a second time just to remember the context so i'd be prepared getting into the ending, but that final volume of the series (eh final two volumes? i have the black edition, vol.6) will forever hit the hardest to me. light's Terror upon realizing he's going to die is just so absolutely deliciously horrible, it makes me sick to my fucking stomach in my favorite way. it's such a cathartic comeuppance, a vicious humbling that no other adaptation has really managed to get at in the same way for me. luv watching u die bbygrl <33
idea for a story: cries forever. uhm... lawlight but it's this tweet...?
unpopular opinion: this is also kinda hard to answer cause i feel like most of my Hot DN Takes are just. ways of adding additional nuance to common fandom takes? e.g. i don't think light is all that overtly bigoted, or at least not in a way that He himself is aware of. like, i've definitely made a joke about light being a republican before, but realistically i think light's politics are just about whatever he thinks will make the most people like him-- he just skews more conservative a lot of times cause he's in a very privileged, pro-cop household and social environment.
i guess my hot take might be related to that, actually-- i've talked in-depth about my thoughts on light's intelligence before so i won't get into That again, but as a kind of sidenote to those points, i don't think light is very emotionally aware when it comes to reading himself. part of this might just be a side effect of the KIRA stuff, the Cycles he traps himself in to avoid having to think about all the ways he Might Actually be a Bad Person, but part of it might just be his immaturity or (male) socialization as well?
i actually find this kind of relatable about him, sometimes-- like in the second half of the series, he often responds to Panic with an anger response, which he usually takes out on either misa, ryuk, or the JTF (usually matsuda, since that's the most Acceptable target to get annoyed at for dumbassery). light Feels everything very strongly, often in contrast to L who very rarely gets attached to things (except for the rare cases where he gets Super attached) but he doesn't really have a good outlet for dealing with those feelings so he just represses everything instead. you can see this w/ his depression in the second half of the series too-- Work & L & KIRA, balancing all those titles and responsibilities is what matters, so he autopilots through it all in a desperate bid to escape facing the fact that his soul has been withering for the last half a decade since L's death.
it's hard to be a person when you're trying to meet Everybody's expectations, i guess, and KIRA does nothing but provide light with even more expectations to live up to if he wants the validation that will definitely totally absolutely make him happy and his life perfect and amazing and meaningful.
favorite relationship: i mean, ship-wise it's obviously lawlight, though i have grown somewhat of a soft spot for matsulight after writing them recently. for character dynamics just in general though-- i really really really like how good yagamane are at casually torturing each other just by Existing, one day i'd like to write a fic about those two set at some point during the time skip. i also love any moonriver interactions, ofc, those are some of the funniest in the series just for how fucking dramatic light is, especially in comparison to the Dead Inside-ness of near. the ways that light idolizes his dad is also very interesting to me, and i'd like to look into that more.
as for more underrated dynamics... i think i'd like to look into some mello/light stuff a little more sometime :3c ehehe
favorite headcanon: HM. hard to pick a favorite. uhh as more of a minor one, i really like that idea that light counts to 40 to calm himself down. actually, speaking of-- in terms of Mental Illness headcanons that i don't see super often, i really like giving light anxiety. for no particular reason. <- (projecting) askfjsdjk ok but like in terms of general/social anxiety specifically, not just OCD (though i'm fond of that one too). this is mostly because i think light's anger problems are just a product of his underlying anxiety mis-management, though again i may just be projecting SO. probably about time to end this post huh. askldjfksldjfkd
thanks for the ask =3=

Finished Girls Band Cry now that it's on crunchyroll. I don't think episodes 12 and 13 were necessarily needed since 11 was such a major payoff, it might have even benefited from the series being spit into two cours. The conflict with DiamondDust and the struggle of maintaining an audience as a growing artist would have offered very interesting developments with the band. Rupa, Tomo, and Subaru could've been the focus of this second half of the series as they don't receive enough solo focus in my opinion. Tomo's family and her relationship with Rupa also mirror NinaMomo in a similar way that would offer some good moments of conflict/development in their dynamic as friends and bandmates. I personally think all the women kiss each other because they have heavy polycule energy, but I genuinely think the chemistry that they share is better than most other band animes I have seen, I would even put it above Kessoku Band.
All in all, I think Girls Band Cry is every bit as good as people have said and TogeToge's music is definitely top tier music from a band anime. I don't know how possible a s2 is but a manga adaptation would be very nice. Lastly I think the drama I was told about Nina and Momoka is so incredibly ridiculous now that I have watched the series. The entirety of the series hinges on Nina's love for Momoka and her music. I think they should have made out on stage.
Ooh, nice!
Yeah, episode 11 definitely feels like it's more of a finale with "Emptiness and Catharsis" feeling like it's meant to be send off song. Episodes 12 and 13 were still pretty good but they definitely felt like they were the start and end of a new arc instead of the end to the season.
A second cour would have been great but even a lot of adaptations don't get more then a single cour these days. It being an untested original 3DCG anime with a cast of non-established VAs/musicians definitely wasn't going to get more then a single cour as they were basically sending it out on a wing and prayer and hoping it would be get by on its quality (it did thankfully).
They've basically said they're planning on making more stuff related to Girls Band Cry. So far that's just been the mobile game announcement and more TogeToge songs but I'd say the chances for a second season or manga are fairly high now.
Yeah, people getting angry over MomoNina is some of the most vapid pearl clutching over nothing I've seen in a while.
100% they should have made out sloppy-style on stage.
TogeToge's music is easily some of the best from any band anime and I highly recommend checking out the rest of their songs as they've released a fair amount of bangers that didn't make it into the anime (Bleeding Hearts is a personal favorite of mine)

Anime I watch to Relax
Cool Doji Danshi
Also known as “Play It Cool, Guys”. While short, the episodes are very enjoyable to watch, and relatable. I find myself watching the episodes again, whenever I feel like watching something not too crazy on the action.
The vibe over all, is very chill. Each character is charming, and their interactions feel so natural to me.
What kind of cool guy am I ? : The one who laughs it off, and when alone, hides under the covers. (*゚Д゚)
Tanaka-Kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge
Also known as “Tanaka Kun is always listless”. Much like our main character Tanaka, the anime is very laid back. I was glad to see this was getting its anime adaptation, for I had been reading the manga before the anime was released. (☆^ー^☆)
We all need an Oda in our lives. (༎ຶ⌑༎ຶ)
Lucky Star
An overall cute anime to watch. Just the daily lives of very entertaining, and unique characters. Overall just a feel good anime, that doesn’t require me to use my brain, and just enjoy every second!
Not gonna lie, it took a while for me to warm up to this anime. Many people hyped it up at the time, and I wasn’t feeling it until later on.
Life Lessons with Uramichi Onii-San!
Tired of life, and yet the sun keeps rising? I think we’ve all had those moments. The sub and dub are both fun, and I find myself just watching any random episode for fun or for background music. Probably a random one to add, but I genuinely enjoy this anime at any time of the day.
(I’m a big Miyano Mamoru fan!)

Do people are getting tired of Lum’s popularity?
When you think of Urusei Yatsura, what is the first thing you think of?
That’s right, Lum
Lum is literally the mascot of UY, and it’s pretty much nothing without her. Anything UY related is about Lum. But don’t people get tired of her a little bit? I’m mean, Urusei Yatsura is kind of an old anime. And it was made in a time where Anime in general wasn’t mainstream yet. But let me tell you the history of Lum and how her popularity came to be.
Urusei Yatsura’s first chapter was published in September 24, 1978. When Lum first appeared in the chapter, she was a one off antagonist. After several chapters, fans wanted to see Lum more. Takahashi listened and Lum quickly became a main character.
In the 80s thanks to the anime, Lum became a Japanese 80s phenomenon. So much so there was merch about her, posters about her and music sung by her (I guess), she was everywhere!
Even though the manga was cancelled in 1987, people still remember Lum and love her.
…
Okay, well, just because Lum was popular in Japan, that doesn’t mean she wasn’t popular or well known outside of Japan (besides that terrible BBC dub). Let me tell you how America knew Lum.
A singer named Matthew Sweet made two music videos released on MTV on 1991. With the first being “Girlfriend”, which features clips from an anime film called “Space Adventure Cobra”, while the second being “I’ve Been Waiting” features clips from Urusei Yatsura, which, you guessed it, features Lum. That’s how people knew Lum and I hope they were surprised that the creator also made Ranma 1/2 (which was in the 90s).
youtube
Americans and anime fans became in love with Lum. So much so that back then, they consider themselves as “Lum fans”, not “UY fans”.
Which brings me to my question, do people are getting tired of Lum’s popularity? The answer is hard to answer. Because Urusei Yatsura has become relevant over the years and people are starting to know the other characters. But overall, it's Lum we're talking about. But I won't blame them because Urusei Yatsura is such an old manga. So if people remember or know Lum more but not the others, then that isn't really fair.
Because when you look at the characters of UY, it's quite big. The characters are all underrated. Some of the characters are even inspirations for Rumiko's other mangas, like Ryunosuke being a prototype of Ranma.
Urusei Yatsura is what I would call... a classic.

What are your top 10 favorite media ever (can be anime/manga, tv series, books, movies, games, etc)? Why love them? Thanks ⭐
Hehe thanks for the ask! I'd be happy to comply!
I can't pick dude. If you just want me to ramble about media, I'll start by talking about some pieces that have positively surprised me.
• Spaceman
Tuned in for the hot spider from the instagram clips, stayed for the interesting social commentary. I'm sure it would help a fuck ton of cis men if they just watched it. I loved Hanuš even more than I expected. Turns out an emotionally wise & relatable alien is better than one that would gut me after all.
• Pop Team Epic (season 1 especially)
It's one of those out-of-pocket pieces of media that have a ridiculous production value and passion behind it. Like, genuine production value. It's like anything Studio Trigger has made. An old friend and I were obsessed with PTE during the pandemic and pretty much made it half our personality to like it and other media like it (e.g. Way of a House Husband, nyan neko sugar girls, Backstreet Girls (That was a solid 6/10. Good watch dude). I also have Cromartie High School on my watchlist we'll see how that goes)
Now onto some books & poetry
As some may know from reading my fics & following my Lawlight obsession, I'm a big fan of poetry. I enjoy Goete a lot. He's the only name I've consistently been satisfied by. Naturalism is just my tea, as is pretty plain to see in anything I create. I'm bad at reading due to ADHD but I get it done sometimes. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy is insane. Paradise Lost is great. Can you tell I get my book recommendations from Wendigoon? Holes by Louis Sachar reminds me of kids at Wammy's House but also I like it because every plot point in it leads to a perfect circle and I never fail to be amazed by good writing like that.
My favorite music genre is anything that counts as goth music. Sometimes emo if MSI is emo (I know and I'm sorry. Guilty pleasure). Darkwave & Post-Punk are my go-to for over half the year, but I listen to anything if it captures a vibe well. Anything from Mitski & Penelope Scott to Depeche Mode, Twin Tribes, Vestron Vulture & Bragolin to Lady Gaga (empress of my childhood) to Odetari. Oddly enough, however, my favorite band is Glass Animals. Zaba is a masterpiece, but I love several songs from their other albums too (Hot Sugar, Pork Soda, Life Itself...)
I'm not a huge fan of irl shows but I have enjoyed all 6 seasons of Peaky Blinders for the second time last month and have seen Interview With The Vampire a couple months back. That one also left me extremely surprised with how good it was. I've been disappointed by 'queer' stories before. They were scrubbed of any realism and dumbed down to make them more palatable, which I just couldn't watch for the life of me. As you may know, IWTV is the complete opposite of that lol. I've also peeked into Hannibal a couple times. It was good but I don't have time like that.
Animated shows & manga that I enjoy are:
• Death Note ofc
• Kakegurui (I rewatch s1 & s2 every year. Last year twice, I think)
• [Naoki Urasawa's] Monster (animated by Madhouse♡ I've been considering rewatching that too...)
• Paradise Kiss (just hits different in summer. The outro is Do You Want To by Franz Ferdinand. Love that song)
• Madoka Magica (the themes are Crazy.)
• Chainsaw Man (as fucked as they are, Mappa's creative team absolutely devoured. The outros are all incredible)
• Buddy Daddies (>>>>Spy X Family)
• Dandadan is looking pretty good
• The Summer Hikaru Died manga (impressive pacing, stunning art work, stellar character writing👌)
• Over The Garden Wall🎃🍂🌲🖤
• Arcane (a masterclass in character writing)
Aaand • Gravity Falls because it's literally so good, not just as nostalgia
My favorite movies:
• ARRIVAL (man I have to rewatch that)
• every single Pirates of the Caribbean movie (how had I never seen them as a child? Kinda happy about it though. Now i got to enjoy it with my adult mind spoiler-free)
• Princess Mononoke (to the surprise of no one)
• Spirited Away
• Ponyo (the implied 'children can consent' part is iffy but it's magical. My first Ghibli movie)
• Shawshank Redemption
• Disney's Atlantis (yup. That's what I was super into as a child. Had those on cassette. Every Sunday... I'm convinced the whole experience of the misty town from the second movie has singlehandedly made me who I am today)
• Dou Kyu Sei
• Godzilla 2 (THE CGI???? Also I'm a monster enthusiast)
• Portrait of a Lady on Fire
• that fucking Czech Cinderella movie that's on TV every December
Thank you again for the ask, OP🙏🏻 I love sharing these things. Now my arm hurts
#ask#oh games i like are Little Nightmares. Cult of The Lamb. Helltaker. Untertale. Any games by Yames#pokemon moon is cool#pokemon shuffle i recently finished#now i'm playing Plants VS Zombies again#also I'm Not Human I'm A. What are your thoughts on Sonic Superstars as a whole?
I liked it! It's simple and fun, it serves its purpose as a classic game and captures the feel of the 2D main titles well in a cool new 3D way in gameplay, controls, music, plot, animation, etc. Definitely prefer Mania, especially since I replayed it earlier in the year to refresh myself on it but that doesn't mean it's bad in comparison like some are saying. It holds up against all the other classic games well, I think, so I consider that a win.
I had fun with it. I had to play single player but I feel it would've been a little more enjoyable on multi because it definitely felt like some parts were designed with it in mind, such as the length of the bosses and how much damage they can take, as I can imagine it would've been over in seconds if four players were all fighting it at once if they hadn't. True or not, some feel they drag on a little too much on single player.
The bosses ranged from enjoyable to frustratingly difficult because of how long they were. I can imagine that isn't so much of a problem with multiple players. The actual stages were almost too easy in comparison, they lacked the challenge Mania constantly offered but it made for nice relaxed gameplay in comparison where I could just sit back and enjoy, (which I'd been wanting after the nightmare difficulty of Final Horizon lol) so it's not terrible.
The Eggman themed stages like Pinball Carnival, Press Factory, and Egg Fortress included basically all my favorites and that's not even just my bias, they were the most fun for me gameplay wise too- and they also looked really fucking cool. I always love when Eggman's love for carnival shows and the dark industrial pollution of Press Factory was so awesome and my element, I enjoyed the look and the stakes of act 2 🥰💜
The new robots and boss designs both the funny huge animals and ones Eggman got to pilot were really cool too! And Eggman's adorable model and all his animations were just so precious, he's so full of life and charm and character and made me so happy. 💕 I wish he'd gotten more drawn animation and context in the plot in game but combined with the prequel comic, manga, and Trio of Trouble, it was a good amount.
Admittedly, I haven't played all of the game yet, only the main story mode, so I can only speak for that. I skipped all the extra optional acts and haven't played Trip's and the Last Story. Mostly because I got the game a couple days early but was in a rush to be somewhere, so I only played what I had to get the Eggman related stuff I needed, make my video, and be on my way. XD After main story, I didn't mind spoiling myself the rest.
I find it odd how Eggman is completely absent from Trip's and the Last Story, I hoped to see more of how Trip joined his side and I also feel there at least should've been a bit of context provided for how the dragon got out to fight because it was strange how it just appeared out of nowhere and went just as fast. I didn't expect crazy depth from a classic game but that was a little too random to just throw at you like that lol
But other than that it pretty much gave us just about everything I expected and I'm happy with it. I kinda don't think it was quiiite worth £60 as I enjoyed Mania more and that was way less expensive, (though maybe that's too soon for me to say as I haven't played the other two campaigns), so I say unless you're super eager then maybe wait for a price drop- but I do recommend the experience for a nice little fun time with a faithful classic feel!
