Rudo

Never has he done that before in the past. Asking a girl out? For a date? He’s not even sure if he’s able to do that. Yes, he had fought a lot of different things and had been through a lot ; but you were a lot more. You made him a mess every time. 

Sure, Rudo was bad with girls as a matter of fact, but it was somehow worse with you. You made his mind go completely blank and he froze without being able to even speak properly to you. Of course, he achieved it sometimes and you even got to go on missions together, but asking you out was not in a field he mastered. 

He tried a few times, but it failed each time. Either because you had to leave before he could stutter his words or because he was just not able to align three words to you. He had enough of this. He wanted a date with you, and he would get this date. Or at least, he would be able to ask you. 

You were talking with Gris on a bench outside, who knows about what, when Rudo arrived like a furry in front of you. He had a determined look on his face, and it kind of worried you for a moment. He was frowning when he glanced at Gris, who knew Rudo better than you did, and the man simply left you two alone. 

You were about to say something, wanting to know what was going on, when Rudo straightened his arm in front of him, palm to you, asking you to stay silent ; which you did. You waited for him as he took a deep breath, raising his head to meet your eyes. “Go out on a date with me!”

It surprised you, obviously. You never expected Rudo to say any of this. He was always a mess while talking to you, so asking you out so directly? It was new. You realized that you had been silent for too long and smiled slightly at him. 

“Sure. I’d love to,” you replied, and he froze. Eyes wide, surprised written all over his face, he had some trouble processing the fact you really told yes. You chuckled softly at his reaction ; that was the Rudo you knew.

Zanka

Asking someone out on a date wasn’t something Zanka was used to doing. Well, in fact, it was the first time for him to do something like this. But it couldn’t be so hard, right? He just had to come to you, ask you out and the end. What could go wrong? It’s not like you would say no anyways. Right? You couldn’t say no, of course. No way. 

Zanka never felt more stressed in his life before. What if you just told him no? He wouldn’t blame you, but his ego couldn’t take it. Since he realized what he felt for you, he fantasized about everything ; and it could only be perfect. No other way. 

It wasn’t like he could talk about it to anyone. Either they would make fun of him or they would give him the worst advice ever heard. He was on his own for this one. He didn’t need help anyway. It would be a piece of cake for him. 

Well, that was what he thought. Except that he didn’t manage to even talk to you properly the five times he tried to. When you weren’t too in a hurry to give him a bit of your time, he just couldn’t find the right words. Never in his life before he had been so much at loss of words. It was pathetic. 

You were both on a mission together, currently fighting for your lives. Well, mostly you right now. You were strong enough to take care of this part alone, so he let you do it as you asked him. Yet, he couldn’t take his eyes off you while you were spinning around and kicking this guy’s ass. He was completely mesmerized by you. 

When you came back to him, putting a strand of hair behind your hair, he was the first one to speak. “Go out on a date with me.” It got out so naturally, Zanka didn’t need to think twice. The words simply left his mouth like he expected him to do when it was the right time. You looked up at him, blinking a few times, trying to process his words. 

“Please?” He added after your silence, and you began to laugh out of nowhere, which surprised him. He really was someone full of surprise. “Let’s do it,” you told him, and it made his heart full of joy. “But we need to finish this first,’ you said as some troubles came back to you. He nodded ; he didn’t care of when, you said yes and it was all he needed.

Follo

The poor boy always acted so nice and confident all the time, but when it came to you, he just wasn’t sure of anything anymore. You were an amazing fighter, an important one for the cleaners ; and he was nothing but a support to you and the others. Did he really deserve to be asking you out on a date? 

On top of that, you were always so busy. He almost felt like he was bothering you if he came and asked you to go out with him for a whole afternoon. He would love to do that, but you probably had better things to do. 

He spent night after night thinking about it ; how he could do it, when, or where. It would be better if you were alone, but it was a rare thing for you to be on your own. Rudo was always sneaking around or even Enjin who was barely leaving your side. Yet, Follo thought it didn’t matter so much. He had to do it. 

Today was no exception to the rule. You were simply sitting on a bench outside with Enjin standing in front of you, talking about who knew what. Follo gathered his strength, taking a deep breath before he walked toward you. He cleared his throat, making both your head and Enjin’s one turn around to look at him. 

A soft smile on your lips, you asked him if he needed something, and he felt his chest tightening at the simple sound of your voice. “Can we talk for a moment?” Follo asked you, and you nodded without losing your smile. You looked at Enjin who understood the message and simply left with a wave of his hand. 

Follo took a seat next to you, silent for a moment. You stayed silent too, not wanting to put more pressure on him. He looked up at you, determination suddenly burning in his eyes. “Can we go out on a date? You and me,” he finally said, and his words surprised you a bit. It wasn’t that you didn’t want to, you just didn’t expect him to ask you this. 

Your smile coming back slightly wider than before, you nodded at his words. “We can, yes.” But instead of surprise, you saw his eyes shining bright before he smiled at you. He quickly regained his composure, wanting to look at least a bit cool in your eyes. “Great, yeah.” And it made you laugh softly.

Latest gachiakuta chapter hurting real good rn.

I am sorry for not writing analysis on the other chapters that have come out in the last month but I have been feeling like absolute shit and simply didn't come here on Tumblr very often.

I did read the chapters. This mess between Rudo and Follo has been building up for a while now. Tamzy said a chapter or two ago that it was a waste how Rudo was refining his powers... Probably because Rudo is refining them for a good cause and he would like Rudo to simply go ballistic. Well... It seems like his desire will come true.

I mean...

This last panel doesn't forebode anything nice.

Rudo is angry. Follo is angry.

I really hope someone defuses the situation. On the other hand, I doubt it will happen. What I DO see happening is:

-Gris tries to stop them

-Tamzy suggests that they should let the boys fight

-Tamzy ends up revealing himself and having to try and kill Gris because Gris is determined to try and stop him no matter what, even though as a Supporter he may not be a match for Tamzy

-Gris is killed, OR Rudo and Follo make up on the spot because Gris is about to get killed

Maybe I am overreacting with the theory, but I have also started school again and my mind is all over the place so, yeah. Doesn't get much better than this for now. I don't even think I formulated my thoughts well.

I have to say, though... This argument...

I have read on Reddit that Follo seems to be projecting, but to me, it goes deeper than that. Both of these boys have gone through so much, but...

-Follo in particular wants to feel as if his pain is important, he does not want for it to be as insignificant as his role as a Supporter (for the way it is perceived by civilians I mean; Supporters aren't actually useless after all). He does not want his pain to be "second rate"

-Rudo wanted to keep Follo safe and he does not see what he is doing as looking down on Follo

-Follo thinks Rudo should gain more social awareness

-Rudo thinks people should be more open about their intentions and speak clearly

To everyone headcanoning Rudo as neurodivergent or an allegory for a neurodivergent individual, I salute you. I am joining your ranks because I believe you are spot on. This is EXACTLY where most of this argument stands: where should the effort be put in conversation and social interaction? How should words be weighed? Should it always fall on the people who are socially aware to "lower their standards", and is it at all what matters and how the issue of misunderstandings must be addressed?

I believe I stand mostly with Rudo on this issue. People need to learn to become more open and direct. "If something annoys you, you should tell me. I need people to be honest with me because I hurt and think about what if they are lying just like the other times". But I also empathize with Follo. "I feel like I shouldn't be too straightforward, because people do not think someone of my stature needs to do so; people don't think I matter enough for these feelings to be worthy of time".

I just. I care for them. So much.

And I hope Tamzy keeps away and lies underneath his cover for a while longer.

fndjfnskfn rudo's barely been an apprentice for a day and we already got a trash beast that came from a jinki? at least let the boy go on a couple missions first it's only chapter 10 TAT

still enjoying so far but i think one critique of gachiakuta and modern shonen as a whole i have is how quickly the plot progresses. i know that's probably because new gen fans tend to prefer faster plots over animanga that have a slower plot progression, they want action and dope animation (no where did this shine true than when vinland saga s2 came out and people dropped it en masse saying it became boring and they missed the fights when season 2 had beautiful writing and even s1 despite it's action scenes, it was a character driven narrative etc etc)

and i think that is definitely influencing this early part of gachiakuta because stuff is definitely progressing quickly

i would have definitely preferred a few more chapters of rudo living in 'heaven' so we could see more of the culture and dynamic of it, especially since i know that we're gonna be in the pit for 90% of the story

seeing the contrast of those living in high society in heaven and those tribes people who aren't

actually getting attached to regto before he got axed- like i already knew he was gonna die because we can't have good parents for long in the beginning of a shonen but i at least want to actually be attached to the guy when he dies so i can feel sad rather than going 'alright let's cross that off the box...'

chiwa's switch up also would have had more impact if we had more time to see her and rudo's relationship too

it's good... it's just so fast...

i enjoy the fast-paced titans that are csm and jjk (before the plot went pear shaped for the latter; sorry gege i know your struggles but i still have a right to go 'the latter half of the story was... eh') but because of them, it's really shaped the modern day animanga sphere to ALSO be fast-paced otherwise the attention span of new gen fans will find something else to watch

i know it isn't ALL new gen anime fans but it is certainly a noticeable chunk. it's unfortunate, because not to sound like a boomer, some of the best series you will read/watch will be the ones that have slower to moderate pacing and take time to let you get attached to characters, the lands that they're in and build a connection to them

fruits basket, NANA, one piece, fma (mostly talking about mangahood), wolf's rain, death note, jjba, ashita no nadja, ojamajo doremi, apothecary diaries, frieren, children of the sea, etc (yes i know not all of these are shonen)

i promise you, slowing down and enjoying the ride is just as gratifying as animanga that go through arcs in 10 chapters/5 episodes

My first impression

BD's tough guy! Obviously meant to always be depicted with pretty boy next to him - typical contrasting complementing-each-other duo. BD lore incoming! More about Shinichiro (???)

My impression now

He got neglected T~T. Least fleshed-out BD founder. Unfairrrrrr

I truly need to gather every scenes with him and additional information about him to thoroughly extract everything I can find cuz damn without a bit of work he won't ever gain a proper shape in my mind

He's somewhat simultaneously cool-headed and hot-blooded. He could choose to talk to take care of issues - but he has always had the physical strength to punch his way through lol He's impatient, so although he can think about his actions, he doesn't spend a lot of time choosing them. Despite that, he never seems to lose composure.

I'm trusting him to be the only common sense BD 1st gen had (Shinichiro can appear sane but isn't, Takeomi has too much hubris and is out of touch with reality even when he feels bad to actually think things realistically through, Wakasa has common sense but he rather have fun so he disregards it). He joined them in their mess everytime, but it was to make sure they'd get out of there lol

I need to know just how many times him and Wakasa saved Shinichiro and Takeomi's asses.

Favorite thing about that character

He's one of the few characters that see their dream come true! :) Props to him for that, he deserves it! He got into delinquency very young, so it's nice to see he got out – even before the final timeline

Least favorite thing

Hard to say when there's so little about him

Maybe the lack of eyebrows but it's part of his charm so idk

!! The fact there's nothing about him without Wakasa! Wakasa has scenes without Benkei (I'm thinking Original Timeline) but the opposite is not true! It makes characterization harder for readers because he's always near Wakasa. He never interacts with anyone without Wakasa also interacting with them. Which greatly sucks. Let Benkei develops his personality dammit!

Favorite line/scene

Him nodding here. It doesn't have much purpose, Senju is not even looking their way, but Benkei truly cares about her as well

Favorite interaction that character has with another

Mutual instant understanding and trust with Wakasa. They've been archnemesis for a few (speculated) years before becoming the two literal guard dogs (Komainu) of Just Some Guy who showed up one day and made them be friend. It's been over a decade they hang out almost everyday. They know the other better than anyone else and their special attack requires them both for it to work. They're a duo, so, of course, they shouldn't be separated.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more

He got nothing with Takeomi in canon-story. I mean, of course there's a point to it - whether it's Takeomi's conscious or not fault, or for another reason: Takeomi is isolated from the rest of BD narratively speaking. And he never seemed to have actually connected with them - but the fact that 1) we only know those 4 from BD 1st gen (there were HUNDREDS of members. We didn't even get to know some captains :() 2) we don't even clearly see the dynamics between each of them back then

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character

Ughhh hard to say.

Delmon from Gachiakuta; plus they both have a pretty boy as their duo partner.

(Big scary dudes who have a soft side - I love Teddy Bear-type of characters)

A headcanon about that character

Same as for Wakasa - I heavily inspired myself of irl Benkei's life to imagine what (TR) Benkei's childhood could've been like. It's a tough one for sure, but mostly: the previous Ragnarok gang members (1st and 2nd gen) were like big brothers to him. He spent his childhood roaming around with them. I mean, Ragnarok HAS to mean something very dear to Benkei - he got the logo tattooed on his body (at 13 at most) that's not nothing. He grew up rather poor. Raised by a single mother. He took most of his physical appearance from her (beside his eyes color). He was a troublemaker as a kid

📚 Review 📚 Gachiakuta Vol. 2

I was too curious about Gachiakuta to pass up the second volume! The first volume introduced us to an interesting character and a dangerous world. The second volume? Well, it lets us see more of the stakes and the situation Rudo has fallen into (literally).

I can already tell this will be one of those series that gets stronger with time. I suspected it with the first volume, but Gachiakuta Vol. 2 confirmed it for me. So, I would absolutely encourage readers to get on board now!

This volume introduced a whole bunch of secondary characters, mostly Cleaners (trash beast exterminators). A few stand out immediately, but I'm looking forward to getting to know them all over the following volumes (fingers crossed, that's what happens!).

Hey hey, I’ve got a Gachiakuta question for you: what are your thoughts on the Cleaners emblem? I haven’t seen anyone talk about it anywhere, and my brain has been doing backflips about it. When I look at it I see a crow within the circle of an umbrella- there’s a crook in the center, and the 8 points on the outside made me think of Umbreaker (Octa-Shredder). I think this hints at lots of stuff, especially who could have founded the Cleaners. Ever since I heard the theory that Umbreaker might be Enjin’s second vital instrument- the emblem makes me think that it’s been passed down through the Cleaners specifically. AND THEN THE CROW! At first I only saw the eye (like Corvus’ tattoo), but then all the stuff with Kuro made me think it was the eye of a crow. I see your analysis posts all the time and wanted to share my thoughts :-)

Nnhhhh... The Cleaners' symbol you say?

I have essentially no stable theories about it, and avoid thinking about it! Mostly because the symbol in and of itself looks similar to what you're describing, but if we are to go with this hypothesis, the questions it raises about Enjin are endless... Too endless for my brain to handle, so I find myself thinking more often about the more standard theory that a lot of other fans on other apps and sites hold, which is "symbol=sun=Apollo, so Greek myths have something to do with this, something something Typhon and Cerberus in the myths, something something reference to Delos".

Truth be told I am not a fan of THAT theory either. I have no clue what to think about the symbol, so I just leave it alone and wait until there is a proper reveal.

It's not the same as with the "Corvus=Kuro" theory because I have plenty of evidence for that. We don't know enough about Enjin's mentor/person he admired in order to make theories about him, the umbrella and how Enjin became part of the Cleaners though.

But if I HAVE to make a theory about it... I will go along with what people on Reddit have pointed out.

If I look closely at the symbol I actually don't see Enjin's umbrella. I see the sun. And Corvus's eye. What's more important here is the eye and the sun.

Sun: symbol of godliness and purity and hope. Pretty obvious knowing what the Cleaners want, which is protecting others... At surface level. We know that Corvus himself wants to find out about secrets. The Sun therefore becomes something akin to what light was for the movement of Enlightenment: if light is Reason shining through superstition, here the Sun could be the Cleaners seeking truth amidst the absence of information and the void it created, and not just them creating warmth for humans (the warmth of protection that is).

I see an eye also, and I think "Macaca Icol". There is an eye underneath his graffiti, symbolizing in all likelyhood a friend of his. The symbols underneath Macaca himself are all his friends. So a friend of Macaca Icol, the "eye" friend, created the Cleaners, or was an inspiration for their organization.

Now, my brainstorming goes as follows:

-There are lots of eyes at the base of the Cleaners.

-There is an eye at the back of Corvus's head.

-Corvus is often out. He wasn't present during the time Rudo and company visited Kuro.

-Kuro shapeshifts and has a friend he cared about like Corvus, he has a personal interest in the Cleaners like Corvus, he has forgotten things whereas Corvus HATES forgetting things and having books with missing info on them.

-Macaca Icol is a spellcaster: the city of Spellcasters loves him.

Kuro shapeshifts. Spellcasters make spells. Shape-shifting is considered a spell, traditionally, in the genre of fantasy media...

... Do you see where I am going with this?

Thing is, Corvus seems to be tied into the group of Macaca Icol's friends. If the founder of the Cleaners is Canis, then he must have been friends with the guy represented by the symbol with the eye underneath Macaca Icol's graffiti in order to put an eye in the logo of the Cleaners. I believe that guy represented by the eye is Corvus. And maybe, just maybe, if Kuro=Corvus, Corvus is a spellcaster...

But none of what I see in the logo makes me think of an umbrella. Then again, only time will tell. Maybe your theory is more sound than mine.

EDIT: I am seeing a crow now too, actually. It is actually embedded in the symbol. So again, emphasis is put on Corvus and Kuro. The "waves" which are spiky above the eye are actually wings of feathers, although stylized.
