Excuse me I just read gachiakuta chapter 121 and I lost my shit, Follo needs some love
Tumblr media
"Follo...? Hehe, there you are! I heard you were giving Rudo a new uniform!"
It's enough to snap the black haired boy out of his depressive spiral, at least enough that he could muster a half hearted smile and an acknowledgement. His fingers dig into the uniform's cloth - I thought, I thought, why did he reject me? Why? Why? - but Follo swiftly drops it from surprise as she launches herself at him, caught in a hold that's both suffocating and oddly safe. At least someone's happy to see me.
"Nah, he didn't want it." The words sting. He's glad she can't see his face, buried somewhere between her shoulder and hair.
She pulled back and like always, Follo's convinced she can actually smell it when he's doubting himself, his abilities, his everything. "Don't worry about it! I'm sure Rudo appreciated the effort. I hear he likes second hand scraps anyway."
A bad joke and he smiles weakly. "Yeah. I'll drop it off to his room later as well though. Just in case."
"Okay! I'll go with you! I don't have anything better to do anyway."
Follo's relived at the chance for subject change, but also chagrined he hadn't thought of it first. "Right! How was your last mission?"
"Eh, boring. Tomme was making fun of me again." She's keeping up with his pace; she pulls a comically indignant look when he slows to laugh. "Hey, it's not funny. She thinks my taste in men is terrible!"
"But it is. Terrible, I mean." Follo scratches the back of his neck with an awkward chuckle. "As your best friend I would know."
Perhaps if he was the hero of the story here, a gloomy voice whispered, a long paragraph on how they were best friends but Follo had always wished for more - the cliché longtime crush, the possessive jealousy of her other pursuits. If he was the protagonist he'd have a perfect, fumbling confession on the tip of his tongue and because of plot armour or whatever she'd gasp and fall into his arms, swooning her love.
But he was Follo and he was not the hero and that possibility sounds embarrassing, if not cheesy.
(Sometimes, a lot of people really don't understand that just as many people simply want to be part of a crush's life, no matter how fleeting. And Follo was just happy enough to play best friend (second fiddle?...no...?) and watch her cast her eyes at the likes of Enjin, Tamsy, the boy by the road.)
"As my best friend you're supposed to defend me!" An arm slings around him and the familiar weight of her drapes onto him, half dragging, like an old blanket. "Pfft, whatever. You're all mean. Anyways, the mission was the usual type of Trash Beasts. Nothing special - nothing like the kind you were off battling!"
"Hey, like I said, Rudo kinda did most of the work. Enjin as well...Gris, Riyo, Zanka. I was kinda background character." He doesn't miss the way her eyes flick and light up, but Follo misses which name they do so at. "Nothing special. Wish you were there, though."
"We could've been background characters together!" Yet another hug and Follo thinks maybe having at least one touchy person in his life isn't too bad. "But don't say that. I'm sure you were amazing! Wait, I know you were."
She steals his cap and jams it onto her own head. "Don't forget! Rudo couldn't have tricked the information broker without you."
"Yeah, well, that wasn't much. I wish I was a Giver, y'know? I could've been more help."
"Nothing wrong with being a lowly, in the mud Supporter. Just means we get double the spotlight when people underestimate us, right? And you're the best Supporter I know, trying to show everyone we're not to be looked down on, trying to be a Giver and all that jazz." They come to a stop and she drops off, turning him around. A finger raises to her lips to make a "shhh" gesture secretively. Follo obliges, leaning in. "Don't tell Gris I said that, alright?"
"I won't." Someone pulls at his facial muscles to smile, but it doesn't feel forced. "Thanks."
"Anytime. I'll always be here for you." Hesitation freezes her in the moment, eyes flicking to their shoes, before she's leaning in and-
The almost, definitely not-kiss on his cheek has him flushing redder than Riyo's hair.
"But you gotta come back in one piece from all those crazy adventures as well, yeah? Bye!"
Forget the uniform. Follo raises a disbelieving hand to his face reverently. He was not the hero of the story and he would not have some weird "oh god I'll never wash that cheek ever again" moment; he was Follo and for now he was content to chase after her demanding for his cap back.
(At least he's got one thing Rudo doesn't have, a niggling contented voice says that should've made him feel guilty.)

GACHIAKUTA 117 aka Horikoshi take notes because Follo is being a better side character than most of class A combined*
*excluding Bakugo and Todoroki but that's because the former is a rival/deuteragonist and the latter is an honorary deuteragonist/deuteragonist/I am Hella confused about narrative roles don't talk to me-
Ok, so.
I know this is veeeery early. But STILL.
You cannot do this shit to me Urana! Wtf!
I had the intention of not getting attached to everyone in fear that you would kill most of them off JJK style, but now I am incredibly attached to Follo as well!
Fuck!
Anyway, here are my thoughts on the chapter 117 and the Pain™ it brought me... Because both Follo and Rudo misunderstood each other and now my heart hurts.
Needless of me to say, the biggest surprise I got in this chapter is... not that Enjin is a ladies-man. I mean, with him saying that he "likes a good woman" especially if they're sexy and smarter than him, yeah, I imagined that he would be.
It's nice seeing more of Semiu being serious about the Cleaners' job. She's a tough one, and she's right, Rudo needs to get back to work.
Before I get on my Follo angst situation, I will say that though the misunderstanding between Rudo and Follo and Follo's grief for the loss of his hammer is easily my number 1 surprise, seeing Noerde and the Sileia tribe mentioned again intrigues me as well.
Noerde seems to have been known by Mildretta, who was also a Sileia, it seems... Or at the very least, Mildretta had heard of Noerde from somewhere. Also Mildretta's another tough woman. I was wondering when we'd see more of her and today I got my answer.
Now, unto Follo!

Tumblr media
I am tempted to just dump this stuff in your face, but NO.
No. I will not. I must resist my urge to curl into a ball.
We know that Follo has been wanting to become a Giver this whole time. We can see clearly from his memories here that his goal and dream has been cast aside at best and insulted at worst.
His hammer was his chance. He had taken good care of it... Until he offered it to Rudo to break the chest.
Follo himself had made the proposal, but in the moment his hammer broke, he realized that he hadn't really been ready for the possibility of the hammer breaking.
This has probably been eating him up from the inside. His chance of becoming a Giver broke in front of him, and he has been feeling guilty because it's happened due to his own will of helping Rudo.
He wants to take pride in being a supporter. He really does. He thinks that being a supporter is just as important as being a Cleaner, but hasn't being a supporter who supports the Cleaners no matter what deprived him of his treasured hammer?
And also... Rudo has just rejected his offer of an undamaged uniform. This just rubs further salt into the wound.
A "supporter"? Can he even support the Cleaners right? Should he? He wants to be a Giver after all, and what happened due to his diligence to the cause just deprived him of his treasured item that was the key to his aspirations...
What is his place? He is feeling like he cannot be the hero of the story no matter what he does.
Rudo, on the other hand?
Guys, we're talking about "if it's broken, I will still use it until it's truly disintegrated and until then it's not trash" Rudo.
Of course he wouldn't want a new uniform. It got damaged? Not a big deal for him, he can patch it up, he doesn't mind, it's not like it's trash after all.
Nothing is trash to him.
He can't throw it away just because it's damaged.
Of course he said no to Follo's insistence.
And yet Follo probably doesn't understand. Maybe it's also due to the way they seem to have been raised, which is also the reason why I think it has been much harder so far for Follo to awaken a Jinki.
Rudo has had an empty hole inside of him for as long as he can remember, which was filled by his gloves. Follo doesn't really have the same characteristics of Rudo: his body and soul don't crave an object or someone to rely onto as much as Rudo's do. Follo does WANT a Jinki, but not with the same exasperation that makes up Rudo's heart's NEED for a Jinki.
Alternatively, Rudo's been shown as being more versatile, so to speak, compared to Follo. Rudo's soul craves the awakening of pretty much ALL he touches, at least potentially. He can awaken every object that has emotional energy stored inside of it as a Jinki.
Follo cannot do that, it's pretty clear to see. And when he is given a Jinki? Remember what happens? Zodyl may look creepy at times and very intense, but he's spot on when he says that people who try to use a Jinki when they are not the user of the Jinki themselves, or when they are not "empty" enough, they go mad. They are meeting despair derived from the object being away from what they consider a suitable friend, and they are overwhelmed with the feelings of the object. At least from what we can deduce.
"Emptiness" and "trauma", in short, make it much, much easier for someone to bring a Jinki into life. They make it easier for the person's and the Jinki's energies to join in order to reach a balance.
And while Follo's life has been riddled with struggle, I can clearly see that, it WILL take some more time before he gest his own Jinki. It's not that he has no chance of getting one, it's just that he does not have the same constitution as, say, Rudo or Amo or Zodyl, so it will be more difficult.
But maybe this will be the episode, this one misunderstanding, that transforms Follo into someone that an object may feel tempted to, so to speak, complete?
EDIT: ALSO Givers are Givers for their objects. That is to say, one shouldn't become a Giver BECAUSE that way they will gain approval for doing something because they're finally "special" enough to do that thing. Givers simply BECOME. They just BECOME their role, not for a purpose but because of the way they feel and interact with objects in their surroundings.
Again, Follo was probably close to becoming one. So close! He treasured the hammer and took care of it with perseverance. But he did it because otherwise people would be skeptical about him being in the Cleaners. He did it to prove a point... And not necessarily because HE loved the hammer, but because SOMEONE ELSE WHOM HE LOVED had the hammer (see the boy with the lighter hair that says he will become a Giver while holding the hammer? on the fourth page?) and a similar goal.
Follo is not fully living for himself.

Only Kitten and I like this man so no one will read it but just in case spoilers for Gachi 105.
@katsukikitten has me thinking about Follo hurting his hands after this weeks chapter🥺
Pairing: Follo Tunito x f!reader.
Warnings: 18+, suggestive, fluff.
Word Count: 0.9k.
Tumblr media
When follow returns from their visit to the Information Broker it’s the first time for a while that he’s felt useful.
You don’t even notice at first when you wrap him into a fierce hug, his hand clenching and unclenching behind you as he presses it against the small of your back to hold you against him. You can’t see his face contort in pain from the position as you bury your face in his neck, inhaling his scent which is now a mixture of him and Rudo as you pull back to get a proper look at him. Noticing the change in shirt first as he grins at the confused look you give him when he comes back to base still wearing Rudo’s clothes, shrugging it off as he presses a chaste kiss to your forehead.
“I’ll tell you about it later.”
He tips his head for you to go with him, not wanting a moment without you since his last excursion. So you follow him through the building and sit yourself on the bathroom counter as he begins to peel Rudo’s clothes off, letting them drop to the floor as he comments on washing them before returning them— not that Rudo would even notice, you reckon.
But you can tell his hand is hurting as he keeps clenching and unclenching it, wincing in pain as he tries to adjust his grip as he turns the shower on. You notice it more when he steps behind the curtain, leaving it partitioned so you can still see each other as he lets the soothing stream of warm water splash against his neck. It’s the muted “fuck” that sounds beneath his breath when he reaches for the shampoo that has you finally pressing him further and he tells you what happened.
And it doesn’t matter how many times he’s seen you naked before his cheeks still flush scarlet the moment you start pulling your own clothes off to step behind him beneath the stream of the barely working faucet. Reaching past him to grab the bottle of shampoo as you begin to later his hair beneath your fingers, scratching your nails against his scalp as he leans into your touch. Groaning softly as you work all the dirt and grime from the Abyss out and down the drain.
You’re meticulous in your movements as you venture lower, grabbing his body wash as you massage his tired muscles gently. Working out all the kinks as Follo’s eyes flutter shut, drawing out a groan from deep in his throat that sends shockwaves directly to your clit as you try to squeeze your thighs together to alleviate the tension.
Deliberately pulling him into a sensual kiss as your lips move languidly in tandem, tilting your head to the side to deepen it as you swallow his soft moans on your tongue. His lips feel chapped against your softer ones as you glide your tongue against the surface before delving deeper, dipping past his lips as you stroke it against his. Your hands smooth along his bare chest as you follow the path of his sternum, his heart racing beneath its cage as you map out the undefined muscles of his belly. Feeling his cock harden against your hip as he instinctively moves to pull you closer, pawing at your hips before he’s reminded of the throbbing pain that shoots through his veins at the movement as he breaks the kiss with a sharp hiss through clenched teeth.
It’s then that you focus on his hands. Already feeling the heat radiating from them after his encounter with the watchman’s gloves, letting your fingers stroke against the worn callouses on his fingers from the times he’s tried to prove himself as a Cleaner without a vital instrument. Working that much harder than his comrades to try and show them that he’s worthy to stand with them, as though that would ever be in question.
You lift his palms up to kiss them, feeling his fingers flex as he moves to cup your cheek. Cradling your face in his hand as you reach down to give the other hand the same attention, drawing out more pretty sounds from his parted lips as he leans forward to press his forehead against yours.
“I didn’t think we were gonna make it.” His voice is gruff, harsher than usual as his throat feels hoarse. He tries to clear the tickle before speaking again, “There was a huge trash beast, it got Riyou. I thought—”
You know exactly what he thought — That he wouldn’t make it back to you.
He tells you everything. From the information broker, to the stupid race, to the trash beast that was guarding the last will and testament of Canis Surebrec. How lucky he was to be alive, because the pain in his hands was nothing compared to never seeing you again.
“So you saved everyone,” You smile, continuing to stroke his sore palm as he shakes his head slightly.
“Nah,” He mutters gruffly, “I couldn’t have done anything without them— and we don’t even know if Riyou is gonna be okay—“
“Follo, she’ll be fine. She always is—” You pull back so that your eyes meet his, reaching up to cup his cheek as you cradle it gently, “And they couldn’t have done it without you.”

Follo won't die but...
Tumblr media
Okay.
Recent chapter has hit like a wall of bricks BUT. I have hope and some plot relevance that Follo won't die. Mostly this is just some reasons why I think he WOULDN'T die, both plot wise and writing wise.
1. It would setback Rudo's development and hijack any further development.
Between Gris' death scare and Follo's CURRENT death scare, both have/will trigger a flashback to Rudo and this is relevant BECAUSE of how Gris' death scare was handled and how Urana is composing Follo's death scare.
Because would it be tragic as fuck if he died? Yes, but his death would only retraumatise Rudo and set his development back. One of the background points of Canvas Town Mural Arc, Information Broker Arc and now Rudo the Cleaner Arc is that Rudo, in comparison to the beginning of the manga, has matured and grown as a person, both mentally and emotionally. That includes stepping back from the goal of avenging Regto (for the time being).
Having someone die in front of Rudo, after having a fight and Follo's last words being an apology? Rudo would never recover.
2. Counter-Parallels
Obviously, I'm talking about the parallels between Regto, Gris and Follo in the current predicament.
Rudo's entire trauma with Regto was in two points: Rudo let the culprit get away and couldn't stop him and that Rudo was too late/unable to save Regto when he found him.
In the first case, Gris' death scare connects with the first point: letting the culprit get away. In this case, rather than being unable to do anything with Regto's killer when he banished, Rudo managed to awaken 3R to stop Jabber from further hurting/totally killing Gris, as the very obvious parallel we get in chapter 15.
Tumblr media
Follo's death scare comes in connection to the second point: being unable to SAVE Regto while he was still just barely alive. Follo is quite literally lying I'm the same almost-dead pose as Regto, with Rudo looking down from above while he's quite possibly a fall away from dying.
So as to counter how Rudo didn't know how to/couldn't save Regto, its possible that Rudo would be able to save Follo, be it in some form of ptsd recklessness or using his third jinki.
3. The Tamzy murderhobo plotline would have to be abandoned.
Tumblr media
We are far too deep in the BUILDUP for Tamzy's murder plot. To the point where if Follo DOES die, the tension that was built up for it would be gone.
This has been stewing since chapter 92 and its clear that while Tamzy won't act now, he is planning to act and the plot point of Tamzy planning murder will be executed, be it either to move the plot, drop hints to Rudo about Regto's killer or to start a new arc altogether.
The problem is that if Follo DOES die and Rudo does break from it, then all the tension would essentially be left hanging as an unfinished plot point. Would it be convenient for Tamzy? Yes but it would also have the stakes not be utilised anymore OR the plot point is just dropped which would make no sense. Why build up the suspense if it won't be utilised? It's possible that it was built up but due to a possible workplace death, Tamzy would get the easy way out.
However, if Follo were to survive but Rudo is still on edge from almost seeing him die, then this would allow Tamzy to act more rashly and maybe leave clues.
4. Possible Trash Pit Cliff Adventure.
Tumblr media
There's no way they didn't say this just because. I smell Chekovs gun. Since the village is right next to the polluted zone where the trash beasts are, it makes you wonder what's at the bottom of the cliff. Mutated abyss animals? Trash beasts from a long gone era? Trash from a pre-sphere era?
It's likely, with Rudo at the top of the cliff, seeing Follo posed like THAT (similar to Regto) he's going to do something reckless in a bout of PTSD madness. Like jumping off the cliff onto the platform to get to him.
The problem? The ledge is small and probably can't hold the weight of two people, so by trying to save Follo, they both drop into the cliff. And maybe, MAYBE, since they're at the bottom, they'll end up seeing some lore related trash or smth.
5. Follo saw The List.
Tumblr media
Oh boy. The whole sequence with the room makes you wonder WHAT did he saw outside of the doll festival. That's probably going to be relevant later on too because Follo seems rattled by the contents.
And if that's the case, then he's going to be relevant later on. It doesn't make sense for him to die and then be brought back as some miracle return because it would kind of spoil the death.
That, and if they do fall off the cliff into the bottom of the place, the chokers might not work/hear them, so they'll be able to talk freely.
6. Alive but at What Cost (The Hammer).
Tumblr media
Follo is on the ledge, hanging by a cliff but! He's still holding the hammer. If he was dead, the weight of the hammer would have been too much and would've slipped out of his hands. But of its still being held onto, that means he's probably not dead but definitely unconscious or in borderline coma.
The position of the hammer, however, would indicate that it could slip out of his hands mid rescue and would push on the idea of "when choosing between a giver and their jinki, choose the giver".
It would also be a form of underlying consequences to Follos actions. While he may have survived, in the process, he's lost something important to him, and seeing him grapple with the consequences of his mental discombobulation WOULD be more development focused, as Follo almost can't seem to bond with his jinki.
7. Healing Jinki?
Tumblr media
Rudo has yet to use his third jinki on the mission. Again, Chekovs gun moment, same with the cliff, but Tamzy did mention its not a good idea to deactivate the jinkis Rudo uses until the job is done. With the whole house literally crashing down, it probably isn't going to be getting back up, so Rudo would have a chance to try and use a jinki to save Follo.
It would also bring up the fact that Rudo's ability draws out the potential the trash has, so he might be able to use some broken medkit or possibly an oxygen mask to try and stabilise Follo's injuries. 3R IS meant to be versatile afterall.

So Rudo and Follo in Gachiakuta Chapter 117... (Mini Discussion)
So the newest Gachiakuta chapter came out yesterday. A bit of a breather chapter after the last few revelations that ended up adding to the character of Follo. However something happened in this chapter that caught my eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So for a brief summary, during the last arc of Gachiakuta, Rudo and Follo swapped clothes to trick Kuro the Information Broker. Follo has been a pretty reoccurring side character, portrayed as a Cleaner assistant who helps in combat but aims at being an actual Giver. Follo though really could only contribute to their fight in small ways. So of course he feels a bit guilty and wants to give Rudo a replacement uniform. But Rudo rejects it.
Now, for those not aware I personal interpret Rudo as an autistic character. I have a whole big post about it, that can be read here. Where I go into a level of detail on why this is my reading of the character though I'm not going to say for certain that this was an intentional choice on the part of Kei Urana the author. But one such piece of evidence to my forming of this perspective is Rudo has an affinity for broken things and has a hyper fixation to fixing them.
Because of this we can infer that why Rudo rejects Follo's gift of a new uniform is because Rudo himself wouldn't throw away an object that he sees value in even if its damaged. Now it could've stopped there, but this moment between Follo and Rudo continues with Follo trying to convince Rudo to take his new uniform.
Tumblr media
At first Follo is clearly sheepish about this. There's a guilt inside him for how things turned out and this is how he chooses to apologize. Its small, but its the best he can do. However, when presenting Rudo the gift we see this-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Follo bucks up, covering up his guilty feelings and just trying to apologize to Rudo indirectly. But Rudo rejects this, as stated previously, Rudo's fixation on not abandoning items that he sees value in is part of who he is. Even something as simple as his uniform is his. So naturally we can understand that when Follo acts like this isn't a big deal but he should change, Rudo rejects it.
And so Follo just relents and walks away, frustrated in himself and how once again his contributions don't help at all.
So... one of the common signifiers of being on the Autism Spectrum is an inability to read social cues. A common thing in polite society is to sometimes communicate without saying things. Some people can pick up on these very easy, reading a person's emotion and their non-verbal forms of communication like gestures. But there is a level of social unawareness in individuals on the Autistic Spectrum who fail at these readings. This can be in a variety of reasons such as not understanding the difference in someone's tone, difficulty in reading facial expressions, and inability to understand indirect intentions of an individual. These can often times lead to unfortunate or awkward situations where the Autistic Individual has hurt a person's feeling or misinterprets a person's intentions without fully understanding why-making it harder for them to learn what they did wrong. It can also be very unfortunate for the neurotypical individual who has these feelings and can feel as if the Autistic Individual is being insensitive to them and their emotional state.
We see both sides of that situation here with Rudo and Follo. We already have been inside Rudo's head in this story. We know why he feels the wy that he feels. We can get into his mind space. That's why this exchange is don't from the perspective of Follo's headspace. We can see his internal guilt as well as his feelings of inferiority to someone like Rudo. But Rudo can't. Rudo only yes Follo trying to give him a uniform and it not being a big deal. But afterwards we continue to see Follo's mind space and how he saw this exchange with Rudo. Reliving how much other regular people around him consider his job lame and being a lackey to people more special than him. With Rudo's rejection of the new uniform being seen harshly and coldly through Follo's eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now of course, I didn't want this post to be a "Rudo is Autistic and Here's Why!" While I have said that is my personal interpretation of the character and do have a chapter like this to be another reaffirmation of that belief, I think it is worth acknowledging that Gachiakuta is a series with a very prevalent underlying theme of people's feelings and how those are manifested and communicated with.
Characters like Zanka try to hide their real feelings of elation at praise because they don't consider themselves a genius and get a full head. Rudo's powers enhance the "feelings" an object may hold such as Griss's good luck charm that Gross wore because he wanted everyone to be safe and thus it turned into a defensive power for Rudo. Amp is a character whose twisted sense of love ensures other people trapping them in their good memories etc.
This feels like a natural extension of that theme. Follo is holding these emotions and as such Rudo is unable to truly understand the "why" of Follo's act. While I said that inability to read social cues is part of indicators of those on the spectrum may experience, I don't want to discount there are likely Neurotypical people who have had moments of this. If someone doesn't tell you how they feel then how can you act accordingly? Urana takes a very empathetic approach with her characters. And being able to see why they feel the way that they do is important for making that connection. Its when Amo is honest about her backstory and why she developed her interpretation of love and Rudo admits his own fault for the frustrations that he feels about having his emotions played with were the two ultimately able to reach out and connect with one another.
Tumblr media
In the case of Follo and Rudo, Follo isn't making that known. So all Rudo can do is act as he usually does when it comes to damaged items. I don't know if this was added in translation or if the original Japanese is a similar, but props to Rudo's rejection being "No. Thank You." Rather than a frank "No." Its a perfect knife twist, because Rudo is clearly trying to have some manners in his rejection, but Follo still sees it so cold and is hurt by it. It really makes both these characters feel justified in both dismissal and frustration. And its all done in a non lecturing type of way. Its people being people and we are allowed to be inside their heads.
Anyway, this chapter of Gachiakuta surprisingly got to me. And I really want to make a discussion on why. Hope Urana keeps on dropping bangers like this.

rereading ch 117 and it's still kind of hard for me to wrap my head around rudo's demeanor towards follo. he does seem a bit standoffish with how blatantly he refuses to accept the new uniform from him, regardless of the whole "don't tell your fellow cleaners anything" situation with kuro and the chokers. and it's understandable why follo feels the way he does, especially with how he's already battling conflicting thoughts. and then his gesture of goodwill is rejected and it's kind of like... is he not worthy in the eyes of his peers either?

Latest gachiakuta chapter hurting real good rn.
I am sorry for not writing analysis on the other chapters that have come out in the last month but I have been feeling like absolute shit and simply didn't come here on Tumblr very often.
I did read the chapters. This mess between Rudo and Follo has been building up for a while now. Tamzy said a chapter or two ago that it was a waste how Rudo was refining his powers... Probably because Rudo is refining them for a good cause and he would like Rudo to simply go ballistic. Well... It seems like his desire will come true.
I mean...
Tumblr media
This last panel doesn't forebode anything nice.
Rudo is angry. Follo is angry.
I really hope someone defuses the situation. On the other hand, I doubt it will happen. What I DO see happening is:
-Gris tries to stop them
-Tamzy suggests that they should let the boys fight
-Tamzy ends up revealing himself and having to try and kill Gris because Gris is determined to try and stop him no matter what, even though as a Supporter he may not be a match for Tamzy
-Gris is killed, OR Rudo and Follo make up on the spot because Gris is about to get killed
Maybe I am overreacting with the theory, but I have also started school again and my mind is all over the place so, yeah. Doesn't get much better than this for now. I don't even think I formulated my thoughts well.
I have to say, though... This argument...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have read on Reddit that Follo seems to be projecting, but to me, it goes deeper than that. Both of these boys have gone through so much, but...
-Follo in particular wants to feel as if his pain is important, he does not want for it to be as insignificant as his role as a Supporter (for the way it is perceived by civilians I mean; Supporters aren't actually useless after all). He does not want his pain to be "second rate"
-Rudo wanted to keep Follo safe and he does not see what he is doing as looking down on Follo
-Follo thinks Rudo should gain more social awareness
-Rudo thinks people should be more open about their intentions and speak clearly
To everyone headcanoning Rudo as neurodivergent or an allegory for a neurodivergent individual, I salute you. I am joining your ranks because I believe you are spot on. This is EXACTLY where most of this argument stands: where should the effort be put in conversation and social interaction? How should words be weighed? Should it always fall on the people who are socially aware to "lower their standards", and is it at all what matters and how the issue of misunderstandings must be addressed?
I believe I stand mostly with Rudo on this issue. People need to learn to become more open and direct. "If something annoys you, you should tell me. I need people to be honest with me because I hurt and think about what if they are lying just like the other times". But I also empathize with Follo. "I feel like I shouldn't be too straightforward, because people do not think someone of my stature needs to do so; people don't think I matter enough for these feelings to be worthy of time".
I just. I care for them. So much.
And I hope Tamzy keeps away and lies underneath his cover for a while longer.

Charater: *has emotions and makes genuine human mistakes*
People: you're a bitch, yk. I despise you
Like what. Can we think a bit more. Follo and Rudo just misunderstood each other and both have reasons for that
Rudo didn't get that new uniform was offered out of care (and guilt), because he grew up in a society that throws out and replaces things carelessly. Getting a new thing instead of repairing the old one is excessive and unneeded in his eyes, so he politely declines. It looked blunt and maybe rude but Rudo's speech is just like that sometimes, this wasn't intentional
Follo puts time and thought into acquiring said uniform and then misunderstands the tone and reason behind Rudo's answer. He reacts emotionally and harshly, but decline wasn't the only reason this. Feelings builded up (from people dismissing the supporters, hammer situation, dangerous Tori arc + a dose of watchman's side effects, etc) and this exchange just became a breaking point. I think that even without Rudo Follo would've eventually snapped
This is an interesting character conflict that is pretty easy to resolve (you know, talk and apologise). It probably will give us a nice development for both of them and/or act as a setup for a bigger plot point. It didn't ruin Follo as a character. It just allowed him to be flawed
