Obviously we have to wait for the video to know the story, but for anyone who’s studied any kind of social history/psychology/sociology/etc. And knows a little about the diagnosis of hysteria, Victorian mores, the use of lobotomies/shock therapy/etc to treat women who failed to live up to patriarchal ideals and the minimizing of women’s physical and mental health issues historically in the medical and psychiatric fields plus the old Hollywood of it all… the imagery is Telling The Story. I am fucking SEATED.

One of my biggest grievances with Gladiator II is how underdeveloped Geta and Caracalla were as characters individually and also within their relationship.
I’ve only skimmed through the screenplay, but from what I’ve seen there were a few lines here and there from scenes we did get that would’ve helped establish them and their relationship that were cut out.
This scene being fully cut is a shame. Had this been kept in the final cut I think it would’ve helped a great deal. I understand that it’s hard to keep everything in the final cut, but even keeping lines that were thrown away in scenes we did end up getting would’ve done wonders if this scene was always going to be cut.
It’s frustrating because they’re built up to be these big bad emperors who are just pure evil, but the thing is, I don’t think the movie delivered on that all that well.
I think Joe and Fred did a good job separating Geta and Caracalla with their performances, but what we get in the movie doesn’t make them seem all that different most of the time. The differences you do see are mostly because of the choices Joe and Fred made. It doesn’t necessarily feel like it’s in the writing.
Reading through the screenplay though it is very clear how different they are and the final cut of the film did a disservice to them as characters.
Sure, you can tell that Geta is slightly more level-headed than his brother and that Caracalla is truly unhinged, but it’s poorly structured and we have to rely on Joe and Fred as actors to tell us that instead of having the writing. The thing is, the writing was there, they just got rid of most of it.
Again, I understand that things get cut. I’m not saying this is uncommon, but it feels like, for them at least, that a lot of what would define them as individuals and establish their relationship was cut and that feels weird to me.
It felt as if in the marketing and the cast interviews we got that they were going to be more than they were and the original screenplay backs that up, but most of it was cut and unfortunately, in my opinion, the film doesn’t deliver on what we were told during those interviews.
Your audience should not have to rely on actors' choices to tell them something about who their character is and what their relationship to another is. It should be in your writing in the final cut.

One of these scogan Post-X-Men: Days of the Future Past fics where Logan changes things so everyone from the original timeline is alive and he’s back at the school and about to find out somehow that he and Scott are a thing in this new timeline, but first, after Logan is done explaining himself to Charles, Scott is charged with showing him the way to his room and they talk sort of but not really and all of a sudden they both hear a very happy “Dad!” screamed through the hallway and they both turn and there is a little girl of age four (or more), smiling and running towards them and Logan doesn’t get it because he hasn’t seen her before and he had no idea a child so young could even be at this school and someone here is her father but who? Cyke himself? And he’s about tu turn to see if someone else is standing behind them when all of a sudden the girl slams herself against his legs with such force that it wavers his stance for a moment and surely she hurt herself just now because there is adamantium on his skeleton and there isn’t any on hers and she is only a child after all but then he looks at her and not only is she completely okay, she is also staring at him and she is smiling and as much as it doesn’t make sense, it slowly dawns on him and just as he is about to accept it, the girl lets him go and then hugs Scott, more gently but with no less amount of affection and Scott is affectionate right back but he is also trying to send her away. Only for a moment, though, so he can talk with Logan, and the little girl frowns and doesn’t like it but caves in when he promises to get her some ice cream and Logan doesn’t get it yet again and as if it wasn’t already bad enough, the girl finally smiles again and nodds and then she says, “Thanks, papa!” and runs back where she came from, leaving Logan so awestruck it feels as if he’s a mere breeze away from losing his balance.

Sorry not to be a camera nerd but in IWTV S2 ep2, 3 and 4 Louis in Paris having a Rolleiflex and a Leica specifically for Armand is so significant to me!!! Two cameras used at the same point in time but not by the same people.
First the Rolleiflex.
For the the Rolleiflex to work- you have to take a lil bow before your subject. This is because the viewing mirror is on top of the camera's body, so to see what the lens sees you have to incline. A lot a photographers said utilising this camera is also showing humility in front of the subject specially in street style photography (Robert Doisneau said that the Rolleiflex is like gathering images and the Leica like hunting for them, he also was convinced that the Rolleiflex was an "ethic of life and art" not betraying the subject you are trying to capture). You have to take your time and bow before them. (showing also the fact that louis struggles with not admiring humans )
Now the Leica
The Leica on the other hand put you on the same level as the model. The mirror is in a more traditional position at eye level. And is more favoured for fleeting subject, at least one street photographer as describe the Leica's style of photo as "hunting" for faces capturing the moment ( i think it's Janine Niépce or Henri Cartier-Bresson but don't quote me on this). It's really interesting that he photographs Armand with it , capture the fleeting aspect of his nature ,he is being hunted or they are hunting together ,and they are equals in Louis's eyes.
The style of photo he is taking in ep 4 is called "Humanist photography".
The mouvement in France was criticised for being a postcard image of paris, cliché, naïve and not political enough. And giving a romantic image of Paris after the tragédie of the WW2. It focuses mainly on people, often doing daily mondain activities, Humanist photography really liked cafés and bars. The paradox was despite the cliché exterior a lot of pictures were of working class people (we can see that in the pics he gives to Daniel in ep 2, louis has a very similar choice of subject mater and view of the world, taking portraits of his working class lovers and of Parisians in restaurants). The goal was to heal post war Paris and to show a new beginning. (echoing louis owns personal struggles of finding his new self and a new lover in paris, but also the rose tinted glasses he has on this time has a tourist)
Also in post war paris this is sososos significant in the history of photographie hahhahha my nerd heart is dying....
#outing myself as a IWTV fan#the theme analysis could be pushed further but it's a nice detail i wanted to point out and this post is already too long#also it is very technical vocab heavy for me. i hope it s understandable for non french speakers and non film student#filmposting#interview with the vampire#iwtv#amc iwtv#louis de pointe du lac#photoraphy#IWTV#putting my degree to a noble cause#rent#art history#technobabble

This Bond with this Q. Do you see the vision.
#matching festival looks#respectively Daniel Craig in Queer (2024) by Luca Guadagnino presented at the Venice Film Festival 2024#and Ben Whishaw in Limonov (2024) by Kirill Serebrennikov presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2024#both movies are inspired by books and the books themselves are both autobiographical even though in vastly different degrees#and both characters the play partake in gay sex#I have not watched the Limonov mobie yet but I have watched Queer#and who has read Limonov knows gay sex is not a secondary aspect of this guy's life#So#for your consideration#00q with these vibes#Limonov is indeed a real guy and I while I do not suggest shipping Lee the character from Queer by William S. Borroughs#and the real life unbelievably controversial figure of Eduard Veniaminovic Savenko 'Limonov'#I do think Limonov would have loved the idea of being rpf-ied. No no really. At least in his younger years.#Looking for fame and all that#But me I was just talking about the vibes of these two pictures/characters#'rpf is fine' -Eduard Limonov trying to be scandalous and controversial in Paris circa 1977#james bond#q#007#quartermaster

Something I'm sad didn't make it into the Nimona film was more about Ballister's arm like, the comic had a whole thing about the Institute not having use for a one-armed hero, and that being part of why they began framing him as the villain
#like the film focused on other parts of him which was by no means a bad thing (not just him being gay also the fact the director scapegoated#a lower-class dark-skinned guy) but i Do miss the bit about his arm#it got me thinking of richard iii like how he gets portrayed in the shakesperean play w/ a limp and a withered arm#and the thing is i Cannot be normal about richard iii because like. okay ive seen his skeleton#and if we ignore how he doesnt look like me the curve of his spine is a different degree in a different place#well if we ignore that He Looks Like Me#this is getting off topic my point is about the comic's take on making disabled people into villains#nimona

there is truly a Daffy for every occasion. i've been obsessing over Oklahoma! for the past week and wouldn't you know it, the duck already beat me to the punch. but technically i beat me to the duck beating me to the punch since i was the one who saved this panel months ago with the caption of "Daffy is a fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma". turns out it is i who is a fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma. i am a fan of Daffy as fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma
i am also a fan of this. and i hope you are too.
#sorry i'm procrastinating and making cryptically amusing posts and by that i mean i find this very specifically amusing and to anyone else#it reads as concerning confusing babble at best#i like Daffy.#lt#i haven't even really been like formally obsessing consciously because i HAVENT EVEN FINISHED THE FILM it was on TCM and we didnt finish it#and ive been watching it on my own in bits this past week since i havent had time to sit down and watch#it'smoreso been 'every day i wake up with a new song from it stuck in my head and spend the whole day with it stuck in my head to a degree#of agony'#i also sang some songs from it in a sing and dance camp when i was a kid and so it's been fun/weird hearing songs i havent heard in over a#decade waking me up like a sleeper agent#Shirley Jones is adorable in itttttttttttttttttttttttt AND THE COLOR AND FILM DESIGN UGHHHHHH EYE CANDY!!! THE COLORS#i'm totally influenced by having readThe Noble Approach as i'm so color and value conscious now but man ughghghghgghghgh i love that big#colorful midcentury Technicolor of... films. my words running away from me#anyway fun musical

it's past 3am idc anymore. he was hinted but not officially named & had less than 10 minutes of screen time but in my opinion matthew goode is the best modern version of dracula i have seen in YEARS.
#i got my abigail dvd 🥹#i would sell my toes to get a prequel to this film to see him as a modern dracula#the perfect balance of menacing intimidating and charming in less than 10 minutes of screen time#in those few minutes he managed to capture dracula in the modern world perfectly#it was the BALANCE of old fashioned the gothicness of the mansion yet in the 21st century it may be a fun slasher horror but to me ART#i mean he portrayed matthew in adow flawlessly so i had no doubt he would be fantastic but blimey it was incredible 🤩#my second favourite book in the world finally got a worthy modern lead in an adaptation and it was ONLY FOR LESS THAN 10 MINS#this is from someone who did dracula and adaptations of dracula for part of their degree and had to contend with some terribly written ones#kristof lazaar#count dracula#abigail 2024#matthew goode#dracula

It always seems insane to me that when Titanic (1997) came out, people said Kate Winslet was “too fat” in the film, “Jack couldn’t fit on the debris because of how fat she was”, etc., because I can distinctly remember being a child watching the film several times when my mum bought the DVD, and that whenever I saw the scene where Rose gets out of the car at Southampton and the camera shows her looking up from underneath her hat, I would ALWAYS without fail think “oh my god that is the most beautiful lady in the world”… like nine year old me genuinely thought Kate Winslet was the single most beautiful woman on the planet, you could have told me that she was a goddess and I’d have fully believed you.
I stand by that opinion by the way, anyone who thinks she wasn’t beautiful can fuck off
#this film was HER film quite frankly (and also Gloria Stuart’s to some degree but mostly Kate’s)#like don’t get me wrong Leo in this film is 🥵😮💨 but this Kate’s movie hands down#I’m sure leo would 100% agree tho lmao we love supportive besties#titanic#kate winslet#rose dewitt bukater#she’s still beautiful btw I’m not saying she’s not I’m just talking about child!me seeing her in titanic#also I love James Cameron as a director + he seems to have mellowed out with time but I’m still mad about him calling her Kate Weighs-A-Lot

As someone who is VERY fascinated with adaptation in film (who spent quuuuuuite some time back in college obsessing over it for assignments) and who adores the graphic novel, my biggest takeaway from Nimona is that it is an EXCELLENT adaptation. Especially considering how much that production went through! Like, all of the changes and things they expanded on made sense for the transition from book to movie. My second takeaway is that I love it <3 Please go watch it I beg of you 🙏
#nimona#nimona is one of my favourite stories of all time#and the movie team really did it justice#there are some things i prefer in the book but thats mostly personal taste#i generally prefer a bit more ambiguity (which the graphic novel has in spades) and prefer being dropped into media res#rather than getting backstory forst upfront#but thats just me and i cant complain much and totally understand why those changes were made#in the end the heart of the story stayed the same and thats all that mattered to me#nimona graphic novel dragon design you will always be famous to me#nimona netflix#contender for my favourite film of the year#but it had an unfair advantage (graphic novel my beloved)#person who did a whole dang dissertation and a bunch of scattered essays for her animation degree about adapting books to film
