Me when people say towa doesn’t like zenji :’)))
Yeah sure there’s the little campus scene where he gets irritated and storms off but it seems like they’re just chilling in the caverns together and he first gets kinda confused w what zenji says bc zenji’s extra but then zenji’s like I’m gonna play my biwa!! And towa finally gets annoyed and just leaves. Even haku gets tired of the biwa lmao
But he calls zenji iris, and those usually represent wisdom and courage and faith and hope
And then one of zenji’s home screen voice lines is about loving “nights like this” spending hours talking to mc and towa and towa would obviously not just happily chill talking w zenji if he didn’t like him

do you ever realize after masking intentionally and unintentionally so much in your life, you completely forget who you are.. and how it feels like every time you mimic someone you lose a part of yourself and personality. and fear you’ll never figure out who you are or who you were once.
yeah.
anyway pictures of moth !!!

Silly rabbit??
Happy spooky month! Here's my obligatory Halloween profile picture. I'm a few days late, as usual. But I'll have the actual Halloween drawing(s) done in time... I hope.
Extra doodles and sketches of an alternative costume under the cut.
Originally I wanted to draw Galacta Knight as a witch, with little eensy Meta here as his familiar. However I wasn't able to work out a witch design I was happy with, and that wasn't agonizing to draw with his horns. Still a fun little concept!! Maybe for a future Halloween...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still wanted to do something magic related, and from that I got magician. It doesn't match the spooky vibe, but I think it's Halloween-ey enough!! It's the shitty costume bought the day before the Halloween party, how does it get more Halloween than that? And it still allowed me to have Meta as a stupid little creature, so really, I think I still won.
As a bonus, concept doodles of the magician ft. the inexplicably skimpily dressed assistant!

i think she was the most annoying baby on earth i wouldnt be able to take it (affectionate)
there are only two kinds of autism. the one where it takes you so long to start talking that your parents are worried something's wrong with you and then you suddenly start speaking in full sentences when you're 2 years old (laios and falin) and the one where you simply Do Not Shut Up the second you can make even vaguely word-like sounds (marcille)
love her. she's so funny. im so sure she was babbling on with the full intonation of someone who knows what they're saying but in completely unintelligible noises, some half-words borrowed from elven and common lmao

i will ^_^ ! thanks for the opportunity to plague everyone with my autism
i'm operating underneath the idea that the best possible insect to use in the scenario of draxum attempting to eradicate the human race is, in order from most to least effective: bees, ants, and then wasps.
bees in specific i have a very long-winded rant about. i think that the hymenoptera order would be useful just considering the most prominent insects from that order (again- bees, wasps, and ants) that humans generally see and commonly know are not ones that are typically killed on sight. unless you're like my dad and enjoy the fun saturday morning activity of hitting bees dead with one of those swatters.
i'm thinking generally long-term. the most viable. what plan would last the longest and cause the absolute most amount of damage? and, again, i turn back to bees. there's not truly anything stopping humans from just straight up eradicating bees as a response to a perceived disease caused by them considering our apparent carelessness for the wellbeing of the earth and our environment, but this is all based on hypotheticals. i'm an entomologist, not a mathematician or an engineer.
my problem with his oozesquitos primarily has to do with the human opinion of them- we view bees in a positive light as one of our main pollinators, and whereas mosquitos are also pollinators, as well as being a species that carries a part of the food chain and has a few symbiotic relationships with, like, copepods i think, there's not really anything stopping us from just straight up killing them on sight.
and on top of that i don't think them being one-time use but appearing to not reproduce without influence from draxum, as well as the apparent only source for reinstating that charge of mutagen being whatever supply draxum has in his lab (which gets just Straight Up Decimated) ... it's a lot of risks, is what i'm trying to say. an average person is likely to just swat them dead without thinking too much of it before they could even administer the mutagen. i think maybe if that was the intention and the blood of the oozesquito could mutate someone itself THEN that would be viable. we don't get schematics of them, however, so i'm ruling it as a concept or idea that could make mosquitos viable.
anyways. bees, right?
the idea behind this is that you would begin with maybe a few separate colonies of semi-regular maintained hives. the ones humans harvest honey from. there's a male worker drone and a female sent into the colonies- the reason i'm saying you need multiple is specifically because we're operating under the idea that these oozebees or whatever you want to call them are mimics.
akin to, say, laphria, family asilidae- a species of robber fly that mimics bees. or ant-mimic spiders. or parasitic blue butterflies. these species mimic other species in order to have what is essentially a parasitic relationship with the mimicked species. (i personally find parasitic blue butterflies the most interesting. their larvae is designed to smell like an ant, and so the ant colonies they infiltrate are tricked into raising their young, and eventually they enact a sort of evolutionary arms-race. it's very neat. there's a really good article about this that i enjoy a lot. it's locked, so you'll have to put it through an article unlocker if you want to read the entire thing without signing up for stuff, but it's a good read.)
you need multiple both just in case a colony finds this out and kills the oozebees- but also because if it does work, it makes the playing field a bit broader.
the reason i say a male worker drone alongside a female is because it is the male worker drone's job to mate with the queen. that is the only purpose for it. the female is there to make sure that the larvae resulting from this is kept alive and taken care of through its infancy. male worker drones exist purely for this purpose even outside of all this speculative stuff.
this solves the issue of needing to constantly pour resources into making new bees this way, because they're making themselves. in any case i think if you find a hive who has an unfit queen, you may be able to swing in fast enough to get the queen overthrown and replaced with a queen paired with the ooze. again, hypotheticals, but that's all we're going on here. this is literally born from my college argumentative essay and autism... again, i am an entomologist. kind of insane about this.
i think that if your brain so dictates it this could mean that this would infect honey stores. this would mean that ooze would get into honey, people would ingest the ooze.... one of the fastest ways to eliminate humans en masse is through food. since honey is used as a sweetener and is not something you would primarily think of as the cause of people Literally Mutating Into Animal-People this could have the potential to go on for a while before humans realize what's up and recall honey products.
outside of this, since the reproduction thing is going on there's not really any reason to worry about the bees dying when they sting people. there's a constant supply of them that doesn't deprive you of your resources. it's all good.
ants & wasps have lot less nuance just in the fact that i think you could throw people off with them. people have a lot less qualms about killing wasps than they do bees (because nobody really stops to think about how they're another primary pollinator, too), but wasps can sting multiple times at once. for ants it's because they like to infest homes and they're generally unassuming. it usually takes me a second to realize the thing that bit me was an ant- and i almost never catch sight of said ant.
anyways. i fully understand the appeal of mosquitos though. the general consensus is that about 52 billion people have died to mosquito-related deaths!!! i just think the concept of trying to use them to completely eradicate humans is just a bit dumb. i think they could work well in tandem with other factors or if you made improvements to things such as how many times they can administer mutagen, how resilient they are to being Literally Smacked To Death, and maybe not just straight up having only one source for mutagen.
none of this is me dissing how it was written though. i wish we got stuff about how the oozesquitos were made... would go crazy about that. i love rise i'm just constantly plagued by visions of horrors.
also there's literally nothing stopping humans from just killing all the bees ever if this were to happen. i guess that's why the weapon of war turtles exist. lol
i have SO many things to say about the utter inefficiency of draxum’s ooze distribution/attempt at human takeover through MOSQUITOS of all insects.

i've always found it so interesting that out of the twins, dipper is considered autistic and mabel isn't. this might be me projecting but mabel has always read as autistic to me much more than dipper, dipper's traits seem to come from anxiety disorder and paranoia to me. i think it definitely has something to do with mabel being a girl since autism is usually overlooked in girls, even on tv. idk just thoughts i'm having!!

Did you know!
Betty Boop was based on an African American jazz singer named Esther Jones, pictured below!
Tumblr media
Despite this, Betty Boop has been consistently portrayed as white, and Esther Jones' likeness was used without her permission.
And if you've actually read this far and not just nodded and scrolled on, congratulations! I was lying to you, that entire thing was bunk.
Tumblr media
Esther Jones, better known as Baby Esther or Lil Esther, was only a child when Betty Boop made her debut, her exact age is a mystery due to a lack of records. That image I showed you before? That's of a model named Olya P. for the magazine Retro Atelier in 2008. Also Olya’s not even black, she’s white and either Russian or Ukrainian.
Tumblr media
Betty Boop was indeed visually based off a jazz singer and actress, but it was Helen Kane, a white woman. Clara Bow, another white singer, is also sometimes cited as an inspiration, but with less evidence.
It was Helen Kane who found out her likeness was used without permission and filed a lawsuit against Max Fleischer and Fleischer Studios for it. While he would later wholeheartedly admit it, he denied the likeness as part of his testimonies. In the process, he argued that Kane had taken most of her songs and style from Baby Esther. However, according to Wikipedia it’s possible a lot of the evidence for that was fabricated in an attempt to discredit Kane.
So to be more precise, Betty Boop was based off a white woman who might have based her image off a little black girl.
Tumblr media
Also, the topic of Betty Boop's intended race gets a little silly regardless given that she was first conceptualized as an anthropomorphic poodle. While it's not exactly unheard of for the 1930s, I don't think they were really focusing on coding her as a specific race at that moment.
Tumblr media
The cartoon Minnie the Moocher (remember this) would even depict Betty Boop as coming from a German immigrant family. Many speculated she was even Jewish due to this as well as the Fleischer brothers and her voice actress Mae Questel both being Jewish, but Benjamin Ivry of Forward pointed out that her family's meals were not Kosher so this was unlikely.
Now you might be thinking; okay but what's the harm in portraying Betty Boop as black? Can’t black people reclaim this one character for themselves? And honestly, I kinda agree. Personally I think Betty Boop is one of those characters that can be ANY race, not just white or black, given her ambiguous and stylized features. I love seeing black women cosplaying Betty Boop or her being portrayed as black in art.
However, the reason I bring this up is because I personally think false or misleading information does not make for good representation. Especially when it leads to situations where artists have to explain themselves for giving Betty Boop light skin when the reason cited otherwise is blatant misinformation. Though thankfully the one interaction I have had about it before posting this was very polite.
Not to mention, this kind of thing maybe not necessarily buries but distracts from the very real contributions and accomplishments of black people in Betty Boop's history.
Let's talk Cab Calloway, for example.
Tumblr media
Cab Calloway was a singer and bandleader acclaimed for mixing jazz with vaudeville. He was the first African American to sell one million copies of a single record, and collaborated with Fleicher Studios for three animations, Minnie the Moocher, Snow White, and The Old Man of the Mountain. In these, he would perform a song, the first and last even being directly named after his music, and he was even directly rotoscoped while dancing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't find any sources for who approached who for these collaborations, but I feel its needless to say there's an inherent respect for Calloway and his work in these cartoons. For a black man in the 1930s. And they didn’t even hide it, Minnie the Moocher and The Old Man of the Mountain features live footage of Cab Calloway and his very visibly black band.
These cartoons bleed passion from both the singer and the animators. And if you’ll excuse the sidenote, I watched those cartoons as part of my research and even today his music is still absolutely enchanting.
And Calloway was not immune to racism just because of his success either. He and a friend, Felix H. Payne Jr. were even victims of police brutality by officer William E. Todd in 1945 when they were attempting to visit Lionel Hamptom at the whites-only Pla-Mor Ballroom.
His work matters. Betty Boop was only one small part of his career, the man did a lot in his time, but he brought something truly amazing to the table.
There are real people whose accomplishments deserve to be recognized, but I feel they often get pushed aside in the efforts to make up representation that was never actually there under the false belief that there was none in the first place.
Hell, this entire thing is a discredit to the real life of Esther Jones herself!
She was a literal child who’s date of birth and especially death are unknown. She gained fame in her hometown Chicago which led to her becoming an international celebrity, touring Europe as an honored representation of African Americans alongside Josephine Hall. Then she basically retired as a teenager and disappeared from the public eye.
And what is her memory nowadays? As a sexy flapper that supposedly inspired Betty Boop’s creation.
Tumblr media
Even knowing this was false, I had to fight back so much misinformation while making this. This photo right here? I was led to believe this was a photo of an adult Esther Jones, but it’s not! We don’t have photos of her as an adult! This is a completely different, unidentified, woman photographed by James Van Der Zee!
And quite frankly, as a white woman I feel like a jerk having to be the one to tell black people that actually no Betty Boop was based on Helen Kane, not Esther Jones.
So in conclusion, STOP MAKING SHIT UP.

My brain just hit an old hyperfixation (is this what it's called? I hope I used the word right) and oh dear am I losing my mind now. I need to write a story I think. About this one old guy. He's unhinged. There's so much information about him and yet not enough. I want to explore his character so much. He's definitely a criminal - at least he was one - and I'm 95% sure he can do actual real magic, and he's a musician and an artist and an actor and a magician and a philosopher and a traveler and a conman and so much more and also I think he's some kind of immortal. Maybe he just has a VERY long life. It's strongly implied he was a pirate at some point of his life. He started a cult by accident several times. My conspiracy theories about him include him being a secret god.
He's also a freaking round blue raven. Someone save me from my mind.
#seriously why is he so cool#he's like. a ball.#he's ROUND#if no one stops me I'm gonna make an au and introduce all my mutuals to a russian cartoon that lives in my head rent-free#it has an obviously mysterious old man and an old woman who seems to be very normal but actually has some weird past as well#and they're in love you can fight me on this THEY. ARE. IN LOVE.#there's a disastrous scientist who keeps forgetting to sleep and is kinda cute in a nerdy way#there's a mechanic guy who lives a bit away from everyone surrounded by tech and he's actually unhinged#he's a single father btw. he made a robot baby because he was lonely. it's very important for his character.#I WILL ship the scientist and the mechanic because no one can stop me <3#there's a local farmer who was a famous disco dancer an archeologist and a VERY famous actor in the past. he doesn't care about it anymore.#he was like. Captain America actor kind of famous. or Superman.#and then he just committed a bunch of crimes for his new friends and left to live in a village far away from big cities#all those people with very suspicious past raise a bunch of children together#absolutely inseparable adhd and autism best friends boys who I think are capable of destroying the world#and toxic teenagers couple:#a girl who honestly needs to figure herself out first before dating anyone and a poet boy who is SO deeply in love with her it's not okay#the farmer dude also has a rebellious teenager niece who visits him sometimes#and the mechanic's kid is usually in space but sometimes returns and I am not ashamed to admit that I cried during some of those episodes#I am going to think about them. they are so important to me.#I am going insane.#also yes they are all round animals. if you're wondering.#someone just tranquillise me already or something. it's 5 a.m. and I am losing my sanity
