From the beginning, you and Gojo first met each other when you were both in your second year of education. With him being a second year at Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College and you being in a normal well known Tokyo high school.

You both probably met in the most chaotic way possible by him saving you from a curse while he was in the middle of one his mission that he was assigned to.

Of course, he was somewhat annoyed at the fact that you had slowed down his progress but made sure not to express it too much before leaving to go on about his day, leaving you both starstruck as his beauty - because the man was popular with his handsome looks you know... - as well as confused about what was going on.

You both thought after that you will never see each other again, until you just kept bumping into each other at the most random locations like in the middle of the street, in a bakery, at the front of your school and his - since that was the way you needed to go to head home.

After the constant random encounters, you and Gojo decided to start to talk to each since it was becoming awkward that you knew each other but really didn’t at all - the stiff ‘hi’ and ‘hey’ just working out, were they?

After a few random day outs here and there, there was no denying that you and Gojo were becoming closer than ever - sometimes sneaking out of his dorm room late at night, just to chat to you for a bit in person before sneaking back in as best as he could.

“You need to go back to your dorm Satoru,”

“But I want to stay with you honey~ don’t make me leave”

Ah....I forgot to mention that it was quite difficult for you to make him go back to his dorm since the fool wouldn’t want to go at all..

Over time - probably near the end of second-year - you both realised that you had feelings towards each other and began to start a relationship with one another - much to his clans’ dismay, but Gojo really didn’t care.

Of course, he does tell you about curses and jujutsu sorcerers before fully committing into a relationship with you since he wanted to give you a chance to end this whole interaction between the both of you for your safety - BUT YOU WERE TOO STUBBORN

As time went on, you both had gotten married and you had fully educated yourself (with Gojo’s ‘guidance’) on the Jujutsu world and how everything worked - basically having the full knowledge like a sorcerer would have, you just had no curse energy.

And when Gojo became a teacher at his school, you saw the students like they were your kids and took care of them when needed - to which they highly appreciated since some came from difficult households/clans like the Zenin clan.

Fushiguro was a great example of how you portray your maternal instincts since you were basically his mother the second Gojo had introduced him and his sister to you - you would take the siblings to school, make food for them, help them with their education, basically everything.

Sometimes Fushiguro would call you ‘mom’ and this would prompt Gojo to try to tell him to call him ‘dad, only to get an annoyed look.

When Itadori came into the picture, it was basically the Fushiguro situation all over again but with just a teenager that was more energetic then the shikigami user was.

You immediately took him into your care the millisecond Gojo had informed you that his only guardian - his grandfather - had passed away and he came to Tokyo by himself - leading you to completely worry for the boy, even though he seemed genuinely fine.

Since then, you made sure he was taken care of from making sure he was eating, making sure he was prepared for the next day to even take care of some of his injuries when Ieiri wasn’t available.

In just a short amount of time, Itadori started to call you mom - Fushiguro took a little longer - and that made you really happy since you knew that meant he really trusted you with his health and happiness.

“Mom, what do you think we should get steak or sushi?”

“Mom, how long have you known Gojo-sensei for as well as Fushiguro?”

“Mom, don’t worry, I’m safe!” - when he says that to you, that makes your day a whole lot better since you knew some of these missions were dangerous and you always worried about them every time they were off somewhere.

And ever since Kugisaki joined the team, you basically had three new children within the first-years, with the others being in the years above - little note, you love patting and rubbing their heads before saying ‘good work’ or ‘welcome home’

Overall, every single student with Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College sees you as their mother that they want to protect due to you being a normal civilian and Gojo is really thankful for them - even though he still a little salty that they don’t call him ‘dad’ when they all call you ‘mom’

So out of nowhere I was tagged and quoted by a SR shipper for a blog of mine posted in August of last year. Talk about throwback but, hey, gotta appreciate that level of snooping. 😉

Back in the day I actually used to encourage discourse amongst Inuyasha fans- both shippers and antis alike- but I've since realized that it's a lost cause. But for you, @feministmetalgreymon , I'll grant this exception. Just 'cause it's been a while so why the hell not. haha

I want to assure you, however, that nothing you say will ever convince me that Sesshomaru and Rin are meant to be together romantically or that the story intended it so. Nor will you find any validation here. You can ship them for all I care, but please for all that is good and holy while I have your attention try- I mean really try- to understand why it is so many of us Inuyasha fans are so against this pairing in the first place (newsflash: it's not about ship wars), and why we believe a romance between the two of them is completely and utterly out of character.

I worked with kids for many years as a teacher, and many people in my family have too or still do. Two of them happen to be just over 5 feet which is quite short for the average adult woman living here. I've also worked alongside many a women of short stature, and never did I hear any of them complaining of issues with their students having difficulty differentiating them from their own peers just because they were short as well. I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. Kids are quite smart and pick up on a lot more than you seem to give them credit for. Height is not the only characteristic they look at to determine who's an adult and who's not, and it's foolish to suggest otherwise. So unless you're a babysitter who's still in their teens and/or who has very childlike features or behavior then I'm afraid what you're getting at is total hogwash. This is just another example of how you shippers offer nothing of real substance to your reasoning, it's only ever cherry-picking or strawmanning from you guys. Stop deflecting from the real issues please, because this certainly isn't one and only winds up being a complete waste of time for all parties involved.

Okay, calm down now. I wasn't insinuating that relationships between parents and children can't change over time in terms of how they get along. Of course that's possible, as all families experience their fair share of estrangement and abuse. What I was speaking about was in reference to the overall dynamic between the two. Because a bad mother or father can still be viewed as a parental figure to their child even if say they're not in said child's life anymore. Since Sesshomaru and Rin share a healthy bond- and just a friendly reminder that in my blog I even said that he doesn't have to necessarily be labeled her father but that a romantic relationship later would still be inappropriate- I didn't deem it necessary to address what you brought up. Plus, it kinda, umm, misses the point?? Please, let's stay on topic. And it's not captured in the screenshot, but stop acting like there isn't a small part of them that idolizes their parents at some point during childhood. Just like you mention later on how it's normal for kids to have innocent crushes on adults that they eventually grow out of? Well, guess what, the same concept applies here. Kids eventually learn that their parents are far from perfect and make mistakes too. Rin is so damn young in the OG series though that we never even get to see her reach that maturity level.

LOL! Alright, okay, so the "unbreakable bond" bit you're mentioning was actually me quoting you sessrinners. Did you not catch that? I literally spelled it out. *sigh* The whole point I was making is that shippers like yourself make hypocritical and contradictory statements all.the.goddamn.time. One moment you guys claim that Sesshomaru and Rin were essentially strangers and meant very little to each other, only to say in the same breath a few seconds later that they were destined to be together and their bond is like no other. I agree, their bond is special, but why must that mean they're going to fall in love?

That is the root of the matter here. Too many animes/mangas have romanticized this older adult man & young girl growing up falling in love trope that it's become way too normalized and widely accepted across the world- and yes, in some cultures more than others. Sadly, you lack the awareness to recognize how this all works. You know how we know that? When we see that you shippers are so desensitized to sexualized images of girls in the media that you share posts like this one below which *subtly* imply a future romance although one half of that pairing is still just a child in the pic and then try and pass it off as cute. That's like super fucking problematic and it scares me that you can't see that (or deny you do). 🤢

After all that's said and done, Sesshomaru leaving Rin in the village with Kaede is to me the strongest indicator more than pretty much anything else he's done for Rin that proves he is her adoptive father. It's so funny to me how you somehow see the exact opposite though. 🤔 What I think is happening is that you got yourself on some squeaky clean ass shipper goggles fresh out of your little echo chamber. Because I hate to tell you, but what you're fantasizing is what you want to see and not what's actually there on screen or was written into the story. I'm strictly talking about Inuyasha and the manga of course. [For the TL; DR version skip to the last paragraph.]

Parents looking after their kids is what parents are supposed to do. A good parent will do anything to keep their child safe and ensure they are cared for, so what he did for her by leaving her there was in her best interests clearly. Besides, as a babysitter, you more than most people should understand that parents aren't always able to be there for their kids so sometimes others gotta step in to help. Haven't you heard of the saying, "it takes a village to raise a child?" Which in Rin's case is literally true! 😂 Sometimes kids are even sent off to stay with grandparents and that's who raises them instead. Or maybe they have to temporarily live with an aunt or uncle because their single parent's job requires they work out of town 4-5 days of the week so they're hardly home. But that doesn't mean that the parents care or love their kids any less, and it's foolish to assume that Sesshomaru must have thought very little of Rin simply due to the fact that he made the decision to leave her in the village. Come on, y'all are acting like he abandoned her there!!

It's just given the circumstances Sesshomaru finally came to learn that Rin traveling with him was no longer safe. I also like to think it's because he wished for her to live a more normal life and to learn how to fully trust humans again. Plus, continuing to travel with him as young as she was would have proven dangerous and unwise. Now for you to know all this and still manage to turn his past actions towards her while she was just a child into a romantic gesture is what boggles my mind. Regardless of how you look at it, from my perspective or your own, Sesshomaru is in the wrong. Either he's a father figure who impregnates his daughter at the young age of approximately 14. OR he's this man she used to travel with who maybe isn't a father to her but who nonetheless basically rapes her since kids her age can't consent to sex with an adult. Idk about you but it sounds to me like nobody here wins with either scenario we're given. In other words, you should be just as mad as we are. If only one side didn't choose to forsake their morals they know we both have in common for the sake of a ship. Welp. 🤷‍♀️

I agree, incest is disgusting but that's not the only problem we have with this pairing. A romantic bond forming between Sesshomaru and Rin would also constitute as grooming.

You realize that over the years he visited her in the village that he brought her gifts too and essentially watched her grow up right before his very eyes, right? I mean, I know you do, but I really shouldn't have to explain further why pursuing a romantic/sexual relationship with each other is plain and simple wrong. And before you say it's not because he didn't have any malintent, please understand that considering their history and power dynamic up to then that yes this is still considered grooming even if Rin supposedly "wanted it" or "made the first move." Whether you consider him her father or not, as the adult who took on a role resembling that of a caretaker in her early life- a critical developmental time for a child- Sesshomaru is obligated to turn down any advances by Rin and most definitely should not initiate any himself. As the first close adult figure she's had in her life since her parents died, it's unfathomable to imagine how Sesshomaru could go through with taking advantage of this young girl who was under his care and supervision since they met. To think he could be capable of betraying that trust sickens me to the core.

This. Now THIS is how a parent/guardian or a similar adult caretaker (babysitter, teacher, etc.) talks to a child. And, in turn, this is how some young children talk to adults. You'd be insane and delusional to deny it! We see it in our everyday lives, do we not? From where else do you think our stories draw most of their inspiration? Yes, obviously these fictional universes have aspects of fantasy that don't exist in the real world, but so how then do you suppose we're able to relate to them? The reason for that being is because these stories are written by people for people, so naturally there are going to be real life aspects embedded throughout. Sure, a little escapism doesn't hurt as we don't need to take everything so seriously, but ultimately we all need to recognize that the messages in the stories we tell matter. Most stories possess a combination of both light and dark themes, but when it specifically comes to the latter we gotta be careful with how we tackle this in children's media since kids are far more impressionable.

So if at the center of a story we have two of the main protagonists whose mom is basically their same age and to top it off she knew their dad when she was just a girl and who just so happened to help raise her, wouldn't you say that's beyond fucked up or at the very least so fucking weird? Like why would we think it's even remotely okay for our children to watch this garbage?? Really think about it. Try and be objective for once and think about how it would sound explaining this storyline to an outsider who's never watched IY or HNY. Well, antis have tried this before many times and we always get the same reaction: Ewww!

Like I said earlier, if you wanna ship it then fine, but 1) please stop seeking our approval or trying to change our minds - your ship wish came true didn't it, so why do you need us to validate it? 2) even though it's not canon, respect that we don't support this sequel portraying pedophilia in a positive light. It's harmful af to not only allow but glorify the continuation of sexualized images of young girls everywhere. And I shouldn't have to say this, but just because this trope is popular as you say does not make it right. Lolicon themes in the media have been an issue forever and it needs to stop. Yes, even some people in Japan or "the East" would agree. Shocker!

We're pissed off and rightfully so because Yashahime's TV rating is 14, not to mention it airs at the prime time kids in Japan watch TV after getting home from school. That's Towa and Setsuna's age, true, but if Rin being the mom when she's like only a year older than them (please don't argue w/ me about the math- antis have so far been right every time with it) is straight-up disgusting and not something we should be supporting or endorsing. Rin's a whole ass child!! Please don't start with the "but times were different then so her having kids at 15 is acceptable" argument either, because we've already debunked that and every other single excuse you guys throw at us. Besides, how or why would you expect young viewers to know these historical "facts" anyway, especially if as you suggest fiction doesn't affect reality so what does it matter? Yet here we are, arguing over a fictional show in real life almost a year and a half into the "Sesshomaru fucks?" sequel being announced. My ass, your ass, hell all our asses fiction doesn't affect reality!

We've been sticking to our tags, so how about you stay in your lane too. By the way since we're on the topic, have you seen Twitter or Reddit?! SR shippers there are the actual worst and many Inuyasha fans (not just antis) have complained of not feeling welcomed to engage in fandom spaces anymore. Shippers swarm them and scare them off simply because fans don't like your ship and refuse to accept it. It's pathetic, really. No one should ever be bullied or harassed just because they don't like something you might. We're all fans of Inuyasha, aren't we? So let's act like it. Yashahime on the other hand, you guys are welcome to that pungent heap of trash. Fans have a right to criticize it too, but if you like it then good for you, so keep on liking it and don't mind us.

I'm almost done, but real quick back to Jaken! Let's not forget about how the official Yashahime website- which came out after my blog, mind you- described Jaken. This translation isn't the best one available but it's the only version a fellow anti friend could track down. They do recall a better one done by a native Japanese speaker who was also an anti, and that member confirmed that Jaken is indeed called Rin's babysitter. So you see, I was right in my interpretation. In the original post I did compare Jaken to a brother, but after talking to others (some comments can be found under said post) I did acknowledge that he's more of a reluctant babysitter who's not related. And if he's not at least a brother to Rin, then he's definitely not her father.

Hey everyone, Quinn the Loremistress of the Gay Canon here, and after a two month break due to depression I AM BACK! This time we’ll be doing a series of RETRO-Rewatches and thoughts on some old time favorite cartoons from my childhood! A quick disclaimer on this, I WILL BE tossing out QUEER / LGBTQIA* / GNC headcanons, story ideas and more. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS then, um, whatever, go to another page :D

As this is my FIRST of the Retro-rewatches I’ll try to establish a frame here. First, I’ll go through about 5-7 episodes each with thoughts on each self-contained vingette. I’ll keep up my hottakes, and then lay out how I see a good fanfic or even fanon arising from this series. Since THIS SERIES deals with kids I want to emphasize that any and ALL story ideas I write will focus on College Age or more for things!

Anyway *Blows her Whistle* RECESS IS ON!

Episode 1

The Break In - We learn about the playground and the organizatino of its poli,tics and personalities. TJ, the leader of our gang, is captured after trying to get “The Good Food”. We get a good show off of the gang including Grethin’s intelligence Mikey’s drama, and Spinelli’s tenacity. Vince remains our sports star (which is perhaps a bit of an obvious racist stereotype here), and the one who refuses to just directly insult the King (Bob is himself pretty...over the top).

The New Kid - This episode speaks a lot to the school transfer experience. To me, it means a lot to see Gus standing up for himself and telling the kids his name. To me this sets up some nice ideas for some fae stories. Honestly, this story mostly focuses on how its important to deny erasure of yourself, and to rebel in the face of tyranny. That and how cool of a character every single member of the gang is!

Episode 2

The Experiment - We see the first example of the Jimmy Cratner stories and we learn how Butch got the white-streak in his hair. Of course, he gets the freak out from seeing his brother kiss a girl. This sets up our kiss experiment between Spinelli and TJ. Honestly, this is where I consider them a cute pair, but honestly not “destined” to date down the road. Plus, oh god, I do love the introduction of Randall as the evil little swindler.

The Great Jungle Gym Standoff - Old Rusty is going to replaced the iconic Jungle Gym must be replaced from years of slowly falling apart. The kids make a stand off and later their parents join them. I think ,this was one of the ones made before Gus’ arrival since he’s completely gone in this episode. It sets a nice tone though about how the kids see their playground and how their parents aren’t always against them.

Episode 3

Jinxed - Gus is introduced to the “KIds Unwritten Code of Honor” and the Jinx curse is dropped on him. The Ashley’s little dastardly intro is nicely done, as it shows how much these kids can be bullys. This episode really establishes Gus’ Lawful Good take on the Code. We’ll see this later during the Tattletale episode which makes it even far more interesting. Gotta love how Gus does a bad trade for a Harmonica and a bunch of music from the same instrument.

Officer Mikey - Wow Mikey sets his eyes on one of his silly hobbies (I say this because it’s part of the joke of the story). It does help that this is an example of how kids change their dreams on a whim at times. This is a typical trade and fetch quest story. The gang must bounce between various points so that they can make Mikey live his dream for a day. He immediately quits because it was too hard, almost unleashing the anger of Spinelli.

Episode 4

First Name Ashley - The eponymous “Ashleys” learn of Spinelli’s first name after Randall reveals it. The little snitch loses standing in Finster’s Outfit and thus begins the well known takeover of Spinelli into the Ashley’s. Luckily the gang manipulate the Clique rules of the playground to get her out. I like this story because it really builds the foundation for why the Ashley’s don’t the Gang. It also sets up one of the more interest dynamics between Ashley A and the others.

To Finster In Love - Finster finding love is an interesting story as while she’s seen a major antagonist along with Prickly in the series she really is a good person. Hank is a great character who really highlights the wonders of custodians in schools. It also shows how manipulative TJ and the kids can be. I think it really gives us a good idea that the playground has a pretty well established hierarchy and without it goes to hell, fast.

Episode 5

King Gus - King Bob is struck with laryngitis leading to us to see Gus become King. Originally a figurehead to the King’s advisors his head closely swells and he finds himself instituting a lot of tyrannical new decrees. The kids try to see King Gus and face the bereaucracy of the Playground. I do love how the Sixth Graders illustrate war via dodgeballs which is even more important with Gus’ background. Gus is quickly dethrone by King Bob and is sent back to being a nobody.

Big Brother Chad - Yes, we are introduce to geekdom, and we learn that Vince’s big bro is an Urkelesque geek. Honestly this particular episode really sets things up on how instead of being a toxic geek we need to be nice. Chad doesn’t look down on others he has fun with programming and playing 3D chess. He doesn’t see himself as anything bad. Vince’s werewolf dream of becoming a ageek is so over the top I fucking love it soooo much. NEATO!

Perhaps the best part of this particular vignette is how even Geeks should protect and can back their family.

Episode 6

My Fair Gretchin - A aptitude test shows Gretchin’s genius and she attempts her best to fail. This particular ep reveals Prickly’s focus on using achievements to become a Middle School Principal. Gretchin appears in the middle of a test dressed in a strange 80s / 90s styled outfit. Spouting weird dumb response such as Dennis Rodman is the President. What we learn later is she is allowed to stay while staying as a tutor to the rest of Third Street’s faculty.

Speedy We Hardly Knew Ye - The class hamster passes away and hte Gang decides to call for funeral. We learn an entire series of hamster generations has connected with a variety grades. Speedy the Hamster has been an icon of Third Street school extending their way all the way back to the current Bus Drivers which means people well into their forties knew Speedy. Hell, even the Mayor pops up.

The fact that they kept changing out the Hamsters and no one figured it out is just so bloody weird. It does make sense, if you want a long living pet for the Class for several years you’d do something like a Bearded Dragon or a Chinchilla. But Speedy himself like much in school represents a lot for kids even through the generations. The Canon - Thoughts!

So let’s begin Double Ashley aka Spinelli and Ashley A or Ashley B is perhaps one of my favorite possible pairings. Then there is Spinelli and Gretchin but honestly I prefer these two mixing up with the Ashleys since it shows nerd and preppy love!

Honestly, Recess has a lot of good opportunities for later life gay story telling. Kurst the Worst as a local baker dating Mikey would be adorbs. TJ and Laws as boyfriends and running their own game shop perhaps. Vince as a big time baller and supporting his friends while Gus is military veteran councilor. Skies are the limit here. So far I’ll focus on my favorite should be Gretchin and Spinelli, but nah and nope. I could easily seeing someone writing Gus or even Mikey as trans perhaps.

Who knows, I write Trans HP so who knows. I’ll have more thoughts once I sleep on these episodes and watch a few more!

WU SUCKS but not the reason you think

I'd like to preface by saying Wu has made a lot of mistakes and should be held accountable. But like the main arguments against Wu be like.

1: Morro

2: Traumatizing kids

3: Keeping secrets

4: Mot treating his nephew like is damn nephew.

5: Flirting with his brothers wife.

And the thing about that needs talked about. 1:Morro. First off getting kids hopes is not cool. It can be detrimental to development depending on the age of the child. BUT. Not a single soul told Morro to train tirelessly for 60+ years after his death to take revenge and be the green ninja. Absolutly no one. Wu had compassion for his failings and wanted to show Morro he could still he great without being the green ninja. But the little brat ran tf off and got trapped and died. And he got cursed, how- we dont know. But its implied that it's either intentional entrapment or you have to be a terrible person, guess which category he probably falls into. Mind you Wu also told our OGs that they could also be the green ninja and none of them went off the rails to settle some invisible score. Morro made his choices and he made shit ones. Wu was an influence but not the problem. Morro is unstable, dramatic, and holds grudges Wu didnt cause that.

2: the traumatic experiences the nina go through are also not exactly his fault. He didnt just pick them off the streets. THERE WAS A PROPHECY. Ok? Yall with me. Fate isnt uncontrolled by anyone the ninja needed to be trained to help Lloyd fight the Overlord. That wasnt his decision. And yall act like the ninja couldn't leave whenever they wanted to. He didnt gaslight them or belittle them in anyway that wasnt for teaching. Please bring me receipts if you think otherwise. I do admit he could help a little more, be more clear, but when has a old magic teacher character ever been straightforward. With that logic fuck Dumbledore, and Gandalf, and any wise old teacher that goes to find chosen one who once again are chosen by fate not the master himself. Yall literally cant blame Wu for Child's Play and you cant blame Wu for their experience with Nadakhan either. The enemies that go out of there way to attack the ninja are not a direct cause if Wu himself. Usually. It be like blaming Garmadon for Chen. Yes they had history but it's still not his fault

3: Secrets. I will admit there is next to no reason for keeping secrets from the ninja. Considering history always has kind of score to settle. But considering his age and the apparent imprisonment or death of his past enemies there no way to predict every problem that comes back to screw him over. The Time Twins for example. Yes they came back for Wu. But he did remove their powers and separated them over 20+ years ago. They were not exactly threats to his new students now were they? Again with Aspheera, who was literally locked in a tomb why take the time to educate the ninja on a problem he had no idea was going to come back for him. Same with Morro to a more confusing degree. MORRO DIED. How was he to prepare the ninja for that? Yes please tell me how they were supposed to prepare for a dead guy. I'll wait.........k. he should be more forthcoming with the ninja, about things he knows could harm them, like the Serpentine after Lloyds released them, Chen, the Overlord, the effects of Travelers Tea, Tomorrow's Tea, Oni, Etc. But most of the time the ninja go and do it first then wonder why Wu didn't warn them.

4: His nephew. Wow his parenting sucks. Morro is not his damn child let's start there. Comparing their relationship is unfair. Wu cared for Morro the way he cares for Kai and Nya. He never accentuates a paternal relationship with then. Cause they are students, students he has to train with he intent to send them out onto dangerous battle fields and mind games. He was alone so yes it looks different but it's also a leap to just assume that Wu viewed Morro as his own despite treating him the exact same way as his 6 other students. Now back to Lloyd. Why didnt he get his nephew from Darkleys where it was known he ran away from multiple times? I DONT KNOW. No one does. That is a bad move I can only theorize about. Maybe Misako said something about staying away, maybe he wasnt kept in the loop about his nephews whereabouts due to idk KICKING HIS FATHER INTO HELL. C'mon yall. Now in the later seasons my best guess is that he doesnt know how to differentiate his nephew from the chosen one side and the goofy child side. Hes never had a child and his early relations with Lloyd were scarce and when Lloyd came to live with him. It's not due to some familial obligation, destiny literally called for it. Putting some definite strain on their relationship. I'm not excusing it he should try better, but he'd have to build a relationship from nothing and most people know their immediate family upon birth or during childhood which is not the case here. Wu treats his nephew more like a vessel of power than a person which isnt cool but knowing that the kid might not come back after every fight is a good damper on happy relationships is it not?

5: Misako. Good lord I don't have to explain this one. No excuse. It shouldn't be happening. BUT. After Garmadons death she was a free woman as gross as it is. It's more a flaw on her than it is him she chose to have a baby with one brother and still try to get with the other. And I know it takes two to tango but dont get mad at the idiot that the cheater is cheating with. Be mad at the cheater. The thing people really dont get about love triangles. The "other guy" brings on the questions/options but the person who cant choose or screws with both parties is the one in the wrong. Lloyd seems ok with it. Because Tommy said so. I dont particular give two shits about his take on the show half the time. If Lloyd were actively against it the Wu would probably stop. If the Fsm family acted like a normal ass family we probably wouldnt be here. But their priorities are a little screwy compared to typical nuclear families. Not an excuse just some perspective

NOW, why he is a bad character despite all of those arguments. he chooses to train soldiers rather than care for impressionable teens. Yes the situation called for it but the pressure could he alleviated if he decided to actually help before the world was on fire. He chooses to teach by experience than be upfront. Which works sometimes but not when actual lives are at stake. His trial by fire teaching works but the possiblity it could go wrong is to big to be brushed aside. His seemingly unreachable vault of empathy is hard to swallow. He rarely actually feels things for other people, his lack of enthusiasm when they pull through something hurts to watch. His lack of empathy about raising his nephew to attempt to kill his father is frightening. The pride he demonstrates by choosing not to disclose his past until it's too late is dangerous. He doesnt directly put down the ninja unless he has to and its more implied than anything and is on his students and this fandom for taking it so harshly. He trusts them a lot because he doesnt see them as kids anymore. They are warriors and it was necesary. He should have more compassion. He should be more straight forward, he should try to act like a person and not some ethereal being of elsewhere that doesn't have time to appease feelings or care about people until after hes wronged them. His values are off kilter sometimes which is whatever until it starts to hurt people

But yall need to stop blaming him for other people actions. Morro was a mess to begin with. His problems are in the past because he took care of them already. Misako came onto him. (He should have resisted but he didnt start shit she did). He needs to try to be an uncle alongside being a teacher. He needs to act like a fucking person more than the infinite cache of wisdom and unforeseen unused power that he acts like. And also it's a kids show. How many children think the way yall do?, we're teens/YAs we're reading into things. A LOT which makes everything more complicated. Comments rebuttals open. There's a collection of little mistakes hes made along the way that dont fit into these categories but these are the main reasons I know people hate him and the little things add fuel to the fire. I loved your recent post about Marty and his ADHD! It was soo spot on. And, I saw in the tags that you mentioned Alex Keaton and how you believe he’s not neurotypical either. Care to elaborate? Do you have any headcanons about neurodivergent™ Alex? I’d love to hear your thoughts! :)

Oh, hey, thank you! Marty having ADHD seems to be one of the most common headcanons in the fandom, so that post was a lot of fun to work on.

As far as Alex goes...yes, I will elaborate, BUT I'm putting it under a cut because ya girl is really going to E L A B O R A T E.

I've mentioned before that I think Alex's overall personality/demeanor comes from a variety of different places. Some parts of who he is are likely caused by all the pressure put on him to be a high achiever, due to being so academically gifted from a young age. Other parts are due to being overly coddled and spoiled by Elyse and Steven. Still, there's probably a part of Alex that genuinely enjoys being difficult and getting a rise out of people. Then, there's the obvious anxiety he struggles with, which even MJF has talked about in some interviews when discussing how he approached playing a guy like Alex.

"Giftedness" & anxiety are already included under the umbrella of neurodiversity but in Alex's case, I actually think there's even more to it than that. Yeah, Alex is a funny character whose actions/words are so often played for laughs. He can also be a really irksome character when he's dishing out the sarcasm and being selfish. But I also can't help but look at Alex and think, This guy is just so not NT and he is struggling, somebody Help Him. And since Alex P. Keaton is one of my favorite characters AND I love to analyze/ do deep dives AND the topic of neurodiversity is a particularly strong interest of mine... well, here you go....

Mans is autistic.

• Difficulty with social cues and "reading the room". Seriously, there are so many instances of everyone around him all being on the same page about something or dealing with something serious, and Alex walks in and just proceeds to miss every single cue people throw his way. Two scenes that pop into my head, in particular, are the Reflective Pajamas one and the Clam Puff one, lol.

• He frequently struggles with putting himself in other people's shoes: Alex is certainly shown to be a compassionate person. He can recognize when people are hurting and will do the right thing, but sometimes he needs some help to get there. It seems that a lot of the time, all he knows is how he feels or thinks about something, and it doesn't occur to him that another person could be experiencing it differently. Then, once Steven, Elyse, Ellen, etc, break the situation down for him and explicitly say things like, Hey, that person's feelings are hurt because... or Here is the exact reason this person is angry... Alex is finally able to connect the dots, which usually leads to him being like, I hadn't ever thought about that/ I didn't mean it. (Of course, there are also times where Alex is just purposely being a jerk, but I'm not focusing on those)

• Specific, intense interests: Politics & economics, obviously. It's made well-known that Alex has been completely fixated on these two areas since he was a toddler. He's prone to enthusiastic, overly detailed discourse on the topics and either doesn't care or can't pick up on when people are growing bored at listening to him.

• Also, can we talk about how it's established that Alex's favorite toy as a little kid was a box? Like, he carried it everywhere, played with it, slept with it, and was devastated when it fell apart. Idk, I know kids can be attached to random objects, but it's just interesting that Alex is noted as having been enamored with a box. I'm just picturing little Alex, ignoring all the toys he has in favor of just sitting and staring at a box, and his parents are like, Yeah, this is normal.

• Highly intelligent, bordering on genius/prodigy (He was doing long-division at like, 3 years old) but has difficulty connecting with peers & making friends: This is most prominently shown in "A, My Name is Alex," where we see glimpses of various events in his childhood. In the scene where Alex meets Greg, we learn that Alex spends recess inside, helping the teacher plan her lessons rather than going out to socialize with his classmates. He's bewildered at Greg's invitation to come play, meaning he likely spent the majority of his childhood on his own due to being considered an outcast by his peers and just generally relating more easily to adults. (He also mentions taking night classes at a local college at age SEVEN. So like. If the long-division story and night class thing are taken to be actual facts of Alex's childhood...we're looking at something similar to hyperlexia/hypernumeracy here. This kid must have been bored out his mind having to sit through elementary school if he was that advanced)

• Very literal at times/ misses sarcasm: Interestingly enough, APK is very fond of being sarcastic but doesn't do so well when he's on the receiving end of it. Someone will make a joke or spin the sarcasm towards him for once, and he'll either just stare blankly like ???? or smile/thank them and they're like, Yeah, that wasn't a compliment, or, I was kidding.

• Black and white/ inflexible thinking: This might be the biggest one. Alex is super concerned with rules and ensuring that everyone is following them correctly. There's right and there's wrong, with no gray areas or middle ground as far as he's concerned. My favorite instance of this is in the episode where the family goes to visit Steven's mother and Rob, Alex's uncle, is telling a story of how Steven got in trouble as a kid for refusing to put his name in the upper right corner of his test papers. Everyone around the table laughs...except for Alex, who is deeply troubled by the information.

Just...Steven's delivery. The way he pauses and stares at Alex before replying with a ridiculous punishment that obviously didn't happen, but Alex shows no signs of being aware of or amused at the joke and is just glad his father faced the consequences of his actions. It's great, and a prime example of Alex's preoccupation with "the rules."

Another good example (& one that crosses into the empathy category as well) is "Big Brother is Watching", where Alex exposes a cheating scandal at school (that involves Mallory) and then can't wrap his mind around why everyone is angry at him when he gets the students who were involved suspended. He spends half the episode saying things like, But cheating is wrong. It's wrong and I told the truth about it. I did what's right. You (Steven) told me to always tell the truth, which I did. WHY PEOPLE ANGRY???

And so Steven has to basically spell it out and be like, You got those students suspended, Alex. They are upset with you because of this. They were exposed publically, which embarrassed them, and people tend to not like being embarrassed.

And Alex is like, Oh.

• Repetitive behavior/movements: Most often seen when Alex is distressed or scared, his mannerisms definitely stand out in many scenes. He paces, taps his foot/bounces his leg, rubs his hands together or over his lap, rocks back and forth, and avoids eye contact. I made a post about this a short while back because it really is interesting (and a testament to how well the character was played). There are moments where Alex is completely confident and "calm", and you can see that reflected in the way he carries himself. But whenever he's upset or anxious, you'll start to notice a variety of the things listed above.

So. Yeah. All these things considered...I headcanon Alex as possibly being autistic?? Which is not a take I've ever seen anyone else mention (and I seriously doubt anyone working on the show had this angle in mind at all) but watching through the series, my radar just goes off when it comes to APK.

I have no idea how this will be received. (If anyone even reads it because wow, this got away from me).

The Problem with Apollo’s Backstories

It’s very rare I see this. So far, I’ve only seen two posts on Tumblr about this, but I’ve noticed a few posts that make mention about Phoenix Wright having no backstory. Now, whether they were made as a joke to not be taken seriously or not is something I cannot confirm. That being said, it did bring up something that does come up often: the problem with Apollo Justice having too many backstories. The thing is, Phoenix Wright has just as many backstories as Apollo, yet no one seems to make mention of it or perhaps are not aware. It made me question how this is possible. Certainly, if Apollo’s three backstories stick out like a sore thumb, wouldn’t Phoenix Wright’s three backstories stick out too? Shouldn’t Phoenix also have the same amount of complainers about having too many backstories?

I am a true believer that there is no such thing as a bad idea, but bad execution. I think Phoenix’s backstories are an example of Apollo’s backstories done correctly. To understand this, I’m going to go over each of Apollo’s and Phoenix’s three backstories, and explain where Phoenix got it right where Apollo did not.

With Apollo’s first backstory in the game Apollo Justice, where Apollo is introduced as the main protagonist of this game, we find out that he used to work for Kristoph Gavin at the Gavin Law Offices before finding out he murdered Shadi Smith. Later on, we find out his bracelet matches Thalassa Gramarye’s in her picture, proving that they are mother and son. Through Zak, we find out that Thalassa was once married to a different man before he passed away, believing that her first born had died with him. This draws the connection between Apollo Justice and Trucy Wright as being half brother and sister. And… that’s it. This information does not effect Apollo, since we don’t know his life outside of this during the time of the game’s release, and he does not know that Trucy is his half sister. This backstory does draw a connection between the two long lost siblings, but without any knowledge to create a reaction, it feels empty and shallow. It wasn’t until the two follow-up games that we get more of Apollo’s character and development that fans of the game began to care enough to demand the two half siblings discover their long lost relationship they are not aware of.

For Phoenix Wright, his backstory is the all-knowing class trial back in his elementary school. On one school day, Phoenix Wright was accused of stealing lunch money from a student, due to being sick and being dismissed from school that day, leaving him without an alibi. This lead to a class trial where everyone, including the teachers, shamed him, even though Phoenix claimed it wasn’t him, then crying over the humiliation and shaming. Just when Phoenix was about to forcibly apologize to this student, the student stands up and makes the claim that, since no proof was given that Phoenix had taken the money, he is innocent until proven guilty. A second student also defends him, leading to the teacher deciding to pay for the lunch money that was stolen. From that moment on, Phoenix became friends with the two students that stood up for him: Miles Edgeworth whose money was stolen and Larry Butz who was the second student to stand up for him.

The first thing that makes Phoenix’s backstory different is it creates a motivation and relatability. This backstory tells the story of what motivated Phoenix Wright to become a Defense Attorney. He had befriended the two boys that stood up for him when he was accused of theft at school. One of those friends grew up to become the Demon Prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, who is known for falsifying and withholding evidence. When Phoenix tried to contact him, he would not answer. So, Phoenix Wright became a Defense Attorney both to meet with him and save him. With this, comes with relatability. Phoenix is someone longing for the friend he once lost, something most of us can relate to – if you’ve ever had a childhood friend, whose friendship broke apart over time. This creates motivation for Phoenix and the players to wish for Miles Edgeworth to return back to being Phoenix’s friend again. With Apollo, on the other hand, his first backstory doesn’t give us anything to relate or motivate us to want him and Trucy to discover their real mother or relation. The mention about Apollo’s biological father does come up, but not until Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, which I will get into later. Because of how shallow and empty this backstory feels, it’s no longer Apollo was called a Gary-Sue when the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney first came out.

The second backstory for Apollo finally gives us something concrete. In this second backstory, Apollo had grown up with Clay Terran in a boarding school. We get a flashback of Clay crying because someone in his family died (I can’t remember who. Comment if you know). Apollo cheers him up with his “I’M FINE!” speech. This became a motto for him and Clay. From this backstory, we finally find out that Apollo had grown in a boarding school during his youth with Clay. We finally get a motivation and relatability from Apollo Justice to make us care and cheer for him. There’s just one problem… what does this have anything to do with Apollo’s connection to the Gramarye and his relation to Trucy? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. That’s where Phoenix’s second backstory differs.

For Phoenix Wright, his second backstory tells that he began studying at Ivy University to study on law and art. From there, he met a beautiful lady named Dahlia Hawthorn at the library inside the courthouse. She gave him a heart-shaped bottle as a token of their love and they hit it off. Having dated Dahlia for nine months, he began showing off his little gift to all his friends at the university, even when Dahlia asked him to give it back. Just then, Phoenix came across Dahlia’s ex boyfriend named Doug Swallow, who met with him to warn him that Dahlia was not who he thinks she is. Angry, Phoenix pushes him, then finds him dead not long afterwards. He is arrested for murder, defended by Mia Fey – who is an already established character, in the tutorial first case of the third game of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Through Mia’s defense, Phoenix realized that not only did Dahlia’s gift turn out to be evidence used to poison Mia’s boyfriend, but Dahlia had also tried to poison him with his cold medication and was the one responsible for Doug’s murder.

Just like with Apollo’s second backstory and Phoenix’s first, this creates relatability and motivation. It creates a motivation for why Phoenix was angry at Miles Edgeworth during the second game, why he trusts Mia so strongly and why he would go to Hazakura Temple, once he sees someone that looks like Dahlia. This also reveals one of Phoenix’s major flaws as someone that considers betrayal and murder by poison inexcusable actions, much like how Apollo’s second backstory reveals how and why Clay’s death pushes him to distrust his colleagues. Unfortunately, what Apollo’s second backstory does not show is any connection to the first. With Phoenix’s second backstory, it connects back to the first and second game. It explains how Phoenix met an already established character, explains why Phoenix was cross with Edgeworth in the second game and follows where the first backstory left off with wanting to become a Defense Attorney to meet with Miles Edgeworth. Aside from Apollo growing up in a Boarding School, confirming that he is an orphan, and why he always shouts “I’M FINE!” we get no connection or follow-up from the first backstory. There’s no connection to his former boss, Trucy or the Gramarye’s. Thus, Apollo’s second backstory feels like a separate story from the first, whereas Phoenix’s second backstory feels like a follow-up to the first.

Apollo’s third backstory is that Apollo’s father, Jove Justice, came to the Kingdom of Khura’in to play music inside Durke’s home. One day, a fire arose and Jove Justice was assumingly murdered. Dhurke had miraculously saved Jove’s infant son in the nick of time before the rest of his residence was burned, hiding in the mountains with his eldest son, Nahyuta. From there, Dhurke had raised Nahyuta and Apollo in the mountain as their father, watching them grow up. Unfortunately, because of the laws in the kingdom where Defense Attorneys were prisoned with any client declared Guilty and Dhurke being an outlaw, he sent Apollo to the United States. From there, Apollo never saw or heard from Dhurke or Nahyuta again, believing all his life that Dhurke had abandoned him.

Again, like the second backstory, this gives us relatability and motivation. Leaving any family is something all of us feel saddened about. It also follows up with the relatability of Phoenix’s first backstory of being close with someone, only to grow apart from them with age. But, again, there is no connection between this backstory or the other two. What does this backstory have anything to do with Apollo’s connection with the Gramarye, relation to Trucy, friendship with Clay, growing up in a boarding school as a youth or his reasons for saying “I’M FINE!” all the time? NOTHING! There’s not a single callback to any of these, not even to reoccurring characters from the fourth or fifth game. Nothing on Kristoph Gavin, the Space Center, nothing. There is mention of Jove Justice being Apollo’s biological father, but do we get anything on Thalassa or the Gramarye’s? Even a tiny bit? Nope! Any connection with Jove Justice and the Gramarye’s to explain how he may’ve met the daughter of the famous Magnify Gramarye and they may’ve fallen in love? Nope! Again, I get nothing. It’s sad, because the story could’ve also added Thalassa into the mix as being Jove’s singing partner, a subtle picture of her and explaining why she might be so talented in singing. The fact that the second case does involve the Gramarye, I think, is a missed opportunity to draw a connection to Apollo’s third and first backstory.

For Phoenix Wright, his third backstory is in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, believe it or not. This backstory takes place during the seven years between the third and fourth game. Phoenix Wright was defending Zak Gramarye for the murder of Magnify Gramarye. During this trial, he presents forged evidence unknowingly, which Klavier Gavin reveals to be forged via the surprising Witness. From there, Phoenix is disbarred from law and his client Zak disappears from site. Trucy, who is Zak’s daughter, is left behind and Phoenix cannot find any living relatives, thus decides to adopt her as his own daughter. From here, he turns his law offices into a Talent Agency for his new daughter and takes the job as a piano/poker player. He befriends the only Bar Associate that voted him to be innocent, Kristoph Gavin, who had used his friendship to stalk and watch him.

Again, this creates relatability and motivation as someone losing their job for unfair reasons, entering fatherhood and being manipulated by fake friends. This also is a great follow-up to the trilogy itself and confirming everything that’s already established canon such as Phoenix considering poison and betrayal to be inexcusable, which is what Kristoph does. It establishes the relationship and connection with Trucy and even Apollo. Even as weak as Apollo’s backstory is, it is enough to give Phoenix a strong motivation to take him in as a student. With how strong this third backstory to Phoenix is and its connection to the trilogy as a whole, it makes me wonder why he wasn’t the protagonist of this story. Though, it does conclude what this third backstory does so well that all of Apollo’s backstories do not do: continue where the previous left off.

With every backstory Phoenix gets, it always continues where the previous left off. They connect well like a puzzle. Each piece matches well and never feels separate. With each new backstory, it continues where the previous left off. The second backstory continues where the first and second game left off and the third backstory continues where the trilogy left off. With Apollo’s three backstory, they feel so disconnected, it’s like trying to fit three unmatching pieces together, while ignoring the rest of the 197 puzzle pieces. Sure, the third backstory might’ve mentioned Jove Justice as Apollo’s biological father, but we don’t know anything about Jove or Thalassa, their relationship, how they met or anything. Was Thalassa the lead singer when Jove played, like she is as Lamoure? I don’t know. Even Apollo growing up at a Boarding School or how he went there is never explained in the third backstory. Did Dhurke send Apollo there and pay for his classes? I don’t know.

In conclusion, Apollo’s problem with his backstories are not that there are too many, but that they do not connect. Backstories must fit together in order to work. There has to be a cause and effect. Phoenix Wright has full backstories that have always connected perfectly like puzzle pieces. He has one of the strongest established backstories in Ace Attorney, alongside Miles Edgeworth, who technically has four backstories. That just goes to show you can’t have too many backstories. Although, you can have botched up backstories that do not match up that makes it feel like there are too many backstories.

Personality, relationships

Viktor was an excitable child with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He’d constantly ask questions and his parents were there to provide as many answers as they could.

Sadly Viktor failed to establish friendships with kids of his age, and usually talked with his teachers at elementary and highschool. He was “too different” for other kids to invest effort into figuring him out. He was too honest and his interests were much wider than those of his peers. He was mocked for crying easily. Viktor left this period of his childhood with a feeling of missing out on having friends.

Things changed once he entered the College of Techmaturgy, where he finally found a few people with the same zest for science and techmaturgy, as well as being on a similar wavelength as them. Two of his best friends were Igor and Hans, a laid-back and a distrustful guy respectively. With them, he tackled a lot of situations and exchanged opinions on a big variety of topics.

Many students found Viktor’s enthusiasm and openness admirable and most of them had nothing against him. A few others, due to their general arrogance, went on Viktor’s nerves. He was far from being the most successful student, as his wide interests made him lag in studying and not be laser-focused on university tasks. This didn’t prevent him from competing with the “most promising” students in sophisms and trick questions, making him disliked by the most advanced clique, as he very often managed to make fools out of them, exposing holes in their knowledge.

In his wider friend group, Viktor had a notable crush on another student Amita, who respectfully declined him, explaining how she preferred big bulky and bearded men. Viktor quietly suffered for a couple of months like a naive boy, but fully respected her taste.

For every excitable period, Viktor began having low ones where he’d be disinterested, tired and annoyed by people trying to interact with him. He’d attempt to push them away, saying how he was just not in a mental state to interact. Some theorised this was a consequence of him not learning socialisation well enough when he was a child, but others started to notice the signs of a bipolar disorder. Viktor would consider failures at university as grave, which would eat away at his motivation to do anything at all. And just as these periods would appear, they would randomly go away. His general behaviour was straining on his friends.

Even though he doesn’t prefer physical conflicts, Viktor was ready more than a few times to fight someone if they caused rage to flare up in him. Female students being harassed, someone pushing over his computer while he was in the middle of a difficult task; just some examples where he assaulted other men, grabbing them by the shirt and kicking. In fact, in his friend group, he was the one most inclined to have built up energy. And every single time, his friends frowned on such behaviour, calling it stupid. An exception was when Hans got him in a dangerous proximity of a street fight. Viktor fell into it by accidentally provoking the leader. He and Hans narrowly escaped when a police intervention broke up the ordeal in the luckiest way possible.

Viktor’s parents, especially his mother, would worry about him in a way a parent would worry for their 10 year old child. He was treated as a youngling until their deaths and although Viktor loved them very much, his parents were more like distant mentors.

If Viktor’s experiences could be described with one word, it would be lonely; longing for more meaningful contact with other people. But it was hard for him to extend his hand.

Essay: On Michael Myers and Muteness

A little foreword: This essay is in response to a sentiment I’ve noticed circling in the slasher community for some time. While nobody, to my knowledge, has been outright accused or attacked about this, I do find it concerning how eager some are to spew hate when confronted with people who don’t share their specific ideas of how a fictional character should be viewed—especially when those ideas have very little ground to stand on.

This essay will cover common sources of psychological mutism, and examine how they apply (or don’t apply!) to Michael’s character, to determine the most likely cause for his mutism.

Disclaimer: I have no formal education in the field of psychology. All information presented is taken from case studies and the dsm-5.

Let’s begin with some definitions to clear up a few misconceptions.

Selective Mutism.

Selective mutism is defined as the consistent failure to speak in specific social situations in which there is an expectation for speech, despite speaking in other situations. (DSM-5, pg. 195) 

Selective mutism can be diagnosed only when a child has an established capacity to speak in some social situations (e.g., typically at home). Selective mutism is not the consequence of trauma, neglect or abuse—it is strictly an anxiety disorder.

Progressive Mutism.

Selective mutism may develop into progressive mutism. (Note—progressive mutism does not appear to be mentioned in the DSM-5, but it did show up multiple times while I was researching selective mutism. Take the following with a grain of salt.) Progressive mutism is when a child becomes mute in all settings, with all people, even at home. It occurs due to heightened stress within their environment, or by way of negative reinforcement—for example, if an adult tries to help the child out by “speaking for them” during an episode of mutism.

Traumatic mutism.

Traumatic mutism is sudden mutism following a traumatic event (e.g., the death of a loved one).

Note: There are a great many other causes of mutism resulting from psychological factors, ranging from autistic spectrum disorder, to dissociative disorders, to schizophrenia—but considering how we don’t know enough about Michael’s backstory to say whether he is affected by any of that, I’ll be staying away from explanations requiring heavy speculation.

Alright! We have our definitions. Now, let’s see if any of these would apply to Michael’s case.

(Of course, the only interpretation of the character where his muteness even needs an explanation is the “Michael has a mental illness” take—which, again, is just one possible way of many to view him. The mindset that Michael must be unwillingly mute excludes the most canon-compliant take on the character—that he is just evil. Obviously, a Michael who is “just evil” chooses not to communicate with others because he doesn’t fucking care.)

Option one:

Michael is selectively mute. He suffers from an anxiety disorder. He is physically unable to speak under certain circumstances, but, by definition, he is able to speak under other, more comfortable circumstances.

Why it isn’t likely: There is no evidence in canon to suggest that Michael suffers from an anxiety disorder. Zero. You simply won’t find it. If you want to label Michael as ‘selectively mute”, by all means, do so—everybody has the right to their headcanons! But please, understand what you are saying by using that label; that Michael does not suffer from total mutism. There are situations where he can speak, and there are situations where he cannot.

Option two:

Michael is selectively mute, and his muteness has advanced into progressive mutism. 

Why it isn’t likely: Again, for this type of mutism to occur, Michael must have first had selective mutism. We are not told enough of Michael’s background to speculate about whether he suffers from any sort of anxiety disorder, and I doubt we ever will be. While this explanation for Michael’s mutism is technically possible, to treat it as immutable fact would be nothing short of dishonest.

Option three:

Michael is totally mute as a result of trauma. Whether from the shock of murdering his sister, or being suddenly separated from his family, some traumatic event triggered an episode of mutism that Michael never recovered from. He is now permanently mute.

Why it isn’t likely: Let’s get one thing straight—this view of mutism is a Hollywood bastardization.

The trope in which a character is rendered permanently mute due to trauma/psychological factors may be popular in movies and television, but in real medical cases, this idea holds little merit.

“While cases of mutism have occurred as a result of a child being abused or emotionally or physically traumatized, it seems to be very rare. I have not yet seen such a case, where a child spoke normally until a traumatic incident and then stopped speaking.” (https://www.selectivemutismfoundation.org/knowledge-center/common-myths)

“While it is possible for a child to become mute after a traumatic experience, usually the child avoids talking about aspects of the trauma itself, rather than becoming completely silent.” (https://childmind.org/guide/teachers-guide-to-selective-mutism/what-is-not-sm/)

Of course, this is not to say that trauma-based mutism does not exist. It is a documented occurrence, and it inarguably does.

However; to insist that Michael must have been rendered completely, irreversibly mute due to childhood trauma, and that his mutism persisted for the next 55 years, (2018 Michael is 61,) is not a medically feasible claim. This trope works fine in a fictional setting, but please, acknowledge that this attitude is more rooted in fiction than fact. I scoured case-studies on psychological mutism for hours, and was unable to find a single occurrence of something comparable happening. It is statistically more likely that a person who is mute for this long is making a conscious effort not to communicate. Which brings us to the final explanation:

Option four:

Michael can speak, but willfully chooses not to.

It should not come as a surprise that this is the only explanation for Michael’s mutism that can be sourced by canon material. Dr. Sartain, whose entire job it was to observe Michael’s behaviors, concluded that his patient was indeed capable of speech, and that his mutism was self-imposed. In all brutal honesty, the mental gymnastics required to get around this statement is pretty damn ridiculous; and to knock others for not performing the same mental gymnastics is even more ridiculous. 

This explanation is further evidenced by the 1978 novelization of Halloween. (Which, I don’t personally view as canon, but I know of some who do, so it is worth mentioning.) In the novel, Michael continues to speak normally up to a year after his institutionalization. There is no mention of a traumatic event at the sanitarium that might have triggered his muteness; the closest we get is the near-death of a girl at a Halloween party, but it is very heavily implied that Michael was responsible for that incident—and all because the girl beat him at musical chairs.

Simply due to the evidence we have, this option is the most likely explanation for Michael’s mutism. (For those interested, I go more in-depth about this interpretation of his mutism in this essay.)

But! All of this speculation is ignoring the fact that Michael Myers is a fictional character. His behaviors cannot be studied in a medical setting, by a medical professional—meaning that he cannot be diagnosed with psychological mutism in the first place. If you are one of the individuals trying to claim that Michael is undeniably afflicted with any of these forms of mutism, or any other mental illness, etc. You are wrong. That is not how psychiatric diagnosis works. The absolute best we can do is speculate.

So here it is, plain and simple:

If you hold the belief that Michael Myers must be fully, 100% incapable of speech due to psychological factors, and insist that your viewpoint is the only valid one, not only are you ignoring the ambiguity of this 40-year-old franchise, not only are you ignoring the massive potential for individual interpretation, but you are also fundamentally wrong. You are perpetuating false, or highly simplified information about psychological mutism, and you are trying to apply that false information in an ambiguous fictional setting. Please get off your high horse.

The takeaway: Michael’s mutism has many possible explanations.

Due to the fact that his background is not extensive enough to supply us with a set-in-stone answer, it is irresponsible to insist that any explanation is “the right one”.

So headcanon Michael as mute. Headcanon him as fully capable of speech. Headcanon him anywhere in between. I can’t believe this needs to be said, but you have the right to enjoy this ambiguous piece of fiction however you want—and nobody can tell you that you are wrong for doing so.

1) Starting with Sam Winchester

Sexuality Headcanon: So obviously this man likes girls quite a lot, but I just get the vibes that he experimented with guys in college and is so chill with it he barely even thinks about it anymore, so either bi or bicurious

Gender Headcanon: I have the tendency to assume he’s cis but I could see Sam as a trans guy too

A ship I have with said character: I never moved on from shipping season 5 samifer, the whole made for each other thing, the whole two sides of the same coin, the whole I’m the only one who’ll ever truly understand you, that’s what still draws me to that ship (soulmates but make it angsty and painful)

A BROTP I have with said character: I mean would it even be supernatural if I didn’t mention his relationship with Dean? But that seems like a cop out cause they’re actual brothers so I’m gonna say Castiel or Rowena. Castiel because they’re both people who want faith in their lives, and who have a lot of respect for the people they love. And watching them overcome the initial tensions that came from Sam being the boy with the demon blood was really sweet. The sort of friendship and bond that comes from being close to the same person. Rowena because in later seasons Sam doesn’t get too much development and I think their friendship is one of the better things that happened to his character

A NOTP I have with said character: I doubt its controversial to say I don’t ship wincest? That would probably be my only true notp, but also since I wanna be spicy, I don’t really see him with Gabriel? They’re sweet in aus but I don’t see Sam going for Gabriel’s flirtations, he seems a lot more intense and serious in romances (with jess and ruby for example)

A random headcanon: This one is tricky cause I read so much fic I don’t know what’s canon and what’s headcanon anymore. I think in the age of spotify he listens to it a lot to make up for the years when Dean would only play classic rock before he softened up

General Opinion over said character: Sam is someone I have a lot of strong feelings for, he fits into that niche of characters that I both relate to in terms of struggles as well as look up to for how he deals with them. I like the struggle against darkness within him, and his worth, and whether he’s a monster or not due to what happened to him, I do feel like his character was wasted a bit towards the end of the show though

A ship I have with said character: Ooooh I've never though of this let me dig up canon characters roughly his age. I can see him crushing on Michael Yew and Katie Gardner, quick witted and bossy but good people.

A BROTP I have with said character: Charles Beckendorf. I think Pollux would respect Beckendorf’s hard working attitude and kind heart, and I think Pollux would find his awkwardness around people endearing since he’s a bit awkward himself and they’d probably be those friends that can like work on their hobbies around each other.

A NOTP I have with said character: Never in a million years with Clarisse, the poor boy would get trampled on and I think she’d be mean (I’m sorry Clarisse I love you I promise)

A random headcanon: He’s awkward and shy, and a little sheltered but he’s very sweet. After his brother died he had a hard time opening up to people, and became very private, but he’s a good teacher and is very dedicated to helping his dad with the strawberry fields.

General Opinion over said character: He’s such a cool character, I really love him in the original pjo series because he’s very very much a background character but he makes the world richer. I love that through him Mr D. gets to show a softer and more caring side and one that is fiercely loyal and protective, and I think that was an important part of the message of pjo, how the gods are shitty parents but most of them do care in their own way even though they never show it, and I’m glad Pollux was able to do that. I think he deserved better (aka for his twin brother not to die kay thanks) and I would have loved to see more of him in the rest of the series.

3) Finally our lovely Carter Kane

Gender Headcanon: Cis

A ship I have with said character: Zarter! If it isn’t broke don’t fix it. This boy is head over heals for a strong confident and sassy woman who could kill him and really, who wouldn’t be? I love the thought of them bonding over their unconventional childhoods and their longing to discover things they think are “normal” but that they missed out on. I also think they would fall into the kind of relationship where they’re best friends, they have full and utter trust in each other, and they also discover how to navigate romance together

A BROTP I have with said character: Once again picking Sadie feels like a cop out. I really like his relationship with Amos too, but he’s Carter’s uncle so not sure it fits. I like to think of his relationship with Walt as being very close and like, the kind of brotherly trust that would make them close friends and have each other’s backs all the time

A NOTP I have with said character: Not sure I have one since any ship involving him makes me happy just because it has him in it and he deserves love. However I have seen a lot of fics with him and Horus, and I actually don’t think I like it all that much? Maybe cause Horus is often a bit immature with his emotions I don’t know how well their chemistry would work. This is out of character for me cause usually I really love the concept of host/supernatural entity ships, but maybe it’s also cause Carter is so young in the first book and Horus seems way too old for him? Maybe when Carter is in his 30s?

A random headcanon: I think he would come into his responsibilities very quickly. I think while he would accept Amos as being mostly in charge for a while he would try to be involved with changing how the House of Life is run as Pharaoh, because he’d see it as his responsibility and he’d do everything in his power to do it right, and prove to those that doubt him that he has what it takes.

General Opinion over said character: He’s my favorite character in the Kane Chronicles and probably in the whole Riordan verse. He means a lot to me because I also had to fly around a lot when I was a kid and I moved around a lot too, so when I read these books I could relate a lot to the idea of feeling like the airport is your home. I also grew up with a single parent of the same gender as me wishing I had known members of my very near family better than I did. Also I knew what it felt like to want to go out and play with kids my age but to not be able to because I couldn’t speak the language, and I felt really close to Carter because I see my own childhood represented in him. He’s also very rule abiding and I loved that his dad told him not to do something and he actually followed that, because same haha. I can only hope to one day become as strong and confident as him.

I have this idea for a yandere type game. I don’t wish for any drama it’s just an idea but I do hope to make it, by just trying out coding

Mostly everything said here might not be used if I make it. But you know

Amant retrouvé is about a girl named Felicity Menrow falling in love with a boy/girl and doing anything to be with them

(game in a nutshell. Full story concept and more below)

Story:

A sweet, outgoing girl by the name of Felicity Menrow starts her 11th year of school. She attends a private preparatory school in Lyon, France that her parents sent her from America to get a better education

Her childhood was pretty normal and she was raised to do the right thing

Week 1

She walks in the school and finds herself looking everywhere, she spaced out when a boy/girl by the name of Harvey/Harriett Uroso talks to her and Felicity falls in love with them, without hesitation, she starts talking to them and quickly befriends them

They introduces her to their friend group. In this friend group, there is two boys and two females. She learns that one of the guys by the name of Iven Davis has a crush on the leader(aka Harvey/Harriett)and plans to confess them on Thursday

Felicity goes to her complex apartment feeling a bit upset trying to think about anything, she gets stopped by a male(his name is Afflictus Tartal) who has a deal for her. If she's able to get him pictures of the inside of the school then he'll provide her things she needs, out of desperation, she agrees

When she finally gets to her complex, she meets a girl by the name of Suzanne Tartal and they start to chat. Felicity tells her about her situation and Suzanne suggest murder as a way, she shows Felicity the ins and outs of murder and how to get away with it

(Suzanne is a second source. She’ll replace Afflictus if you go killing)

Felicity goes to bed knowing what she needed to do the next day

Week 2

If she's able to get rid of him, then it will move to a 10th year student by the name of Louise Hill who meets Harvey/Harriett when they try to find their classroom. She falls in love and wants to confess, she meets Felicity and quickly wishes to become friends

Week 3

If she is eliminated then it will move to a girl by the name of Iva Woods. She meets Harvey/Harriett when she accidentally spilled her water on them, she falls in love and tries to repair their relationship, Harvey/Harriett invites them to hang in the group which gives her the chance of meeting people that their close to

Week 4

If she's eliminated then Felicity meets another student whose name is Vale Fisher who has grown a crush on her. She meets him on Sunday during the town's hearts festival when he brings her a box of chocolate, he says that he things she's cute and would like to hang with her

Week 5

After that, another guy(Fleecer Hicks) grows a crush on Harvey/Harriett and starts to hang around them protecting them from other students. Harvey/Harriett try to make him a better person by spending their time with him which in turn makes them fall in love. He hangs in a group that is only female and each one is like a bodyguard

Week 6

After that, a transfer student named Yvonne Keller meets Harvey/Harriett and gets annoyed at them for ruining their dance and wants to ruin their reputation as a revenge

Week 7

If he's taken care of. Felicity meets up with Afflictus to talk, she asks why he needs the photos of the school. He answered that his ex wife, Alison Bell, is the principal of the school and he used to work there and misses it. He asks if Felicity would try to get his wife to take him back

The next week, the principal will be around the halls watching the students. Felicity will be able to talk to her about certain topics before talking about her ex, she then will say that he cheated on him with the fired nurse

The students tells Afflictus about what Alison said, he'll go to the school and say that the nurse forced herself onto him

Alison won't believe it but either she'll allow him the job seeing him in the destruct state or kick him out depending if Felicity was able to convince her enough

After that moment, Afflictus will easily be at the school and be Felicity's new teacher

But if she's unsuccessful, then he'll still be use trough the alleyway of the school(aka his home)

But if you choose killing, then this week will be a regular week, a free week if you may, since Afflictus won’t talk to you knowing you’re a killer

Week 8

For the next week. Harvey/Harriet won't be attending the first 3 days because of personal problems but Felicity will be able to talk with them viva a phone mini game where you click a sentence to respond to them. This week is pretty easy to get through

Week 9

Once that week is over. Harvey/Harriet will meet a guy who starts to stalk them and plans to kidnap them, Felicity learns about this and has to get rid of them through police and record collecting

If she's able to get him arrested, then you pass the week. If not, you lose the game

Week 10

The final week takes place when the school is going to have their first dance. Felicity has until Thursday to ask Harvey/Harriet out to the dance, but if she's not able, she'll just get the friend ending

If she's able to ask them out, there are 6 possible endings you could get depending on how you eliminated your rivals and many other things

Elimination methods

Lethal methods:

Let me go into detail for each rival:

Iven Davis:

Befriending: This elimination is pretty easy since you both are in the same friend group, you learn that his parents been going through a divorce and he wishes they would just get along

In response to this, you will set up a dinner date in town where the two adults meet and talk things over

Once you pass this, Iven will thank you and say he's willing to give up his confession for you as a thank you

Matchmaking: another guy(Duval Burns) happens to be in love with Iven and wants to confess to him. You can help them set up a date in town where they will talk, you will have to help Duval say things Iven will like and then order food that matches Iven's likes. Each day will have a different date. Some ideas I have are a movie theater, the park, a outlook, and a trip to the shops.

By Thursday. Iven will either confess to Harvey/Harriet or Duval, after he confess, Duval will accept and after that week they will be a couple

Rumors: Felicity is too nice to ever spread rumors in real life but is also desperate to keep her crush single, so she'll go anonymous and spread some unsavory rumors about Iven. You'll stalk Iven and watch his every move, taking photos of things out of context(Ex: him talking to an older man/woman, looking at a sex shop, walking past a crying child) After that, you'll be able to write a fake statement. There will be a meter to let you know if it's believable, if it isn't then you'll most likely fail.

After that, Iven will have to move to another school due to the harassment

Suicide: Easy enough to explain. Just shift the bully's attention towards Iven by making him accidentally go towards them, the bullying will escalate to physically hurting him which may very(Ex: Fleecer may cut holes in Ivan's gym clothes during P.E, he might push Ivan down the stairs, he might get his gang to write things on his desk, he might poke him with scissors, and he might beat him up after school hours that you might be able to see this on the way home where the girls block half of it saying things like

"Move along, unless you want to be next."

"Keep it moving."

"If you tell anyone, you'll be just like him."

"Came to see a show? Sorry to disappoint, but Fleecer doesn't like an audience."

"Fleecer is so cool, I wish I was like him."

By the end of the week, Iven will kill himself depending on how far the bullying has gone. The worse being cutting.

Making Harvey/Harriet hate them: Simple. Just make Iven look like a complete jerk. Some examples being: making Iven trip Harvey/Harriet, making him spill their drink on them, hacking into Iven's account and sending death treats to Harvey/Harriet, Iven making promises and not keeping them, and etc. By the time they confess, Harvey/Harriet will deny their feelings and leave

Suicide and rumors are the same and will apply to every rival the same

Louise Hill:

Befriending: Louise will ask Felicity to bring her some study notes that have the correct answers so she can study them, once she brings them to her house. Louise will then tell her that she's a little tight on money but needs a tutor to help her pass, so you can either get money from jobs(will go on later) or get Afflictus to study with Louise

After you do that, Louise will thank you and say she'll let you keep Harvey/Harriet

Matchmaking: A girl(Bridgette Fox) has developed feelings for Louise and wants to ask her out, you'll have to give her a gift and then wait til the end of the day where then, she'll confess her feelings to Louise. But then get's turned down because Louise is straight, Bridgette runs away crying which makes Louise feel bad stopping her from confessing her own feelings

Iva Woods:

Befriending: Felicity will have to catch Iva in town since she's always busy during school, she can be found in the library. She'll say she doesn't need anything and nothing is wrong with her. But if you stalk her, you'll noticed that she's being followed by an unknown figure. There are two outcomes, you let Iva get kidnapped and then sold for money or you attack the kidnapper before they striked

Once you save her, she will be in your debt and promises not to do anything against you as long as you protect her

After that moment, you must walk Iva to her manor everyday until the last week

Matchmaking: A boy(Oliver Berry) falls in love with her for her money and looks but Iva knows he's only attracted to those things so she refuses to even date him. But you can make him act differently and not making it known that he only wants those things

You can make him act smarter, compliment her personality and not even mention her riches. By the end of the week, Iva will have fallen in love and date him

Vale Fisher:

Befriending: This is the only time you can betray. He's already in love, so all you have to do is ask him to meet you somewhere. You get two options, either the waterfall or your complex

If it's the waterfall, you push him killing him on impact. If it's your complex, then you drug him and kill him there. But with both locations, you can talk to him to get him off your back. At first he'll refuse, but then agree saying his feelings won't go away but he'll let you go be happy

Matchmaking: There is nobody in school or outside school that wants him. But you could try to get him with someone online, you can send him a list of ladies from across the country and see if he finds them attractive

Fleecer Hicks:

Befriending: This is the hardest one to do. You have to get an illegal substance from Afflictus to gain Fleecer's respect. He will tell you that his grandmother died recently and his deadbeat of a father took a very important item that she gave him and would like it back

A mini game will begin where you sneak into the small apartment and find the item that's a heart shape ring. If the father notice you stealing it he will attack you causing a button pressing mini game that is hard

If you beat it. You'll return the ring where Fleecer thanks you and says you can keep Harvey/Harriett but says if anyone finds out about this, then he'll break your skull

Matchmaking: A female from his group(Doreen Fields) falls in love with him and wants him to herself. You'll help her gain confidence to ask him out, of course, he ends up denying her feelings telling her that she's just a bodyguard. Doreen takes this personal and attacks him, she accidentally kills him causing her to panic and run away

Suicide: This feature will be done different. You'll have to make Fleecer's gang go against him by making him sound like he hates them, this is done by recording conversations he has with a friend outside the school where he speaks ill of every member. There are 3 members so the conversations will happen over 3 days and then you'll have to edit them all together and show the girls on Friday

They'll confront him and say they don't want anything to do with him, Fleecer will have a break down and run away from the school to his house

On Saturday, he would kill himself via hanging

Yvonne Keller:

Befriending: You will have to gain major popularity online to be able to talk to Yvonne, this is simple as helping out a student at your school. When she notices you, she will ask to do a duet with you

You two will meet after school on Wednesday by the Bellecour, she will set things up and then you two will start dancing. But a teen with swoop in and steal her phone, you will have to give chase and snatch it back

She will thank you and say she'll be your best friend. But she takes it back when you ask her to stop bothering Harvey/Harriett, she says fine but also says that you were a bit too lame for her taste

Matchmaking: Nobody in school is interested in her, but outside of school, a guy(Bennett Hail) likes her but she never looks in her direction. You help him make him stand out from the crowd so she would notice him. Yvonne walks up to him on Thursday and asks him to do a duet with her, he agrees and they walk away to do a dance together taking her mind away from ruining anyone's reputation

Afflictus system

You can accuses him before school, before class, after school, and during the weekend. Depending on if you get his job back on week 7, you can find him either in the classroom or if you don't pass, in the school alleyway

He's able to get you weapons, lethal drugs, hitmen, outside sources, and new abilities(strength, reading, organizing, cooking, and endurance)

To buy all these things, you must take photos of inside the school mainly ones of your classroom which is class 2-7

But he can’t be used if you’re going genocide, he’ll ignore you and call you a murderer

Suzanne system

If you go genocide, you can call on Suzanne via phone or go to her home and she'll give things that isn't accessible. Weapons, new move sets, keys to a warehouse, popularity boost, hints, and a replay of the tutorial. To get all these things, you'll have to take photos of a student being bullied, a dead body, dead animals and pictures of the graveyard

Complex

Everyday after school hours, Felicity will return to her apartment. There she can study, practice the abilities she purchased from Afflictus, use her laptop to spread rumors or buy things online, play video games that can be bought and can grant certain abilities, go into town to stalk her rival or work or buy things, go to Harvey's/Harriett's house to watch the sleep(this will trigger mid game credits while music plays until you leave), or sleep to pass time

Town system

Their is a full town that is able to be used, there are 9 shops that can grant the player multiple things. Weapons, video games, music, money, decorations, different aesthetics, etc. If their not interested in shopping, then they can stalk their peers or rivals and hear about their lives. Their are also some other characters outside the school, adults will occasionally talk outside stores about things(some will speak in french but have English subtitles)you can also find Afflictus between the school and cafe

You walk to school this way and also walk home this way so you have the chance to get things you may need before the day starts

Job system

In the town, you have 3 job options and each has a different way to pay. The chef job gives you 100€. The librarian job gives you 90€. The assistant office manger gives you 400€. But the jobs require certain skills, which depends on the abilities you get

Talking system

To talk with a student. Just walk up to them and press T(on computer) and Y(on controller)

When you start to talk, you have options. Compliment, give item, request favor, and leave. You don't have a time limit when talking and you can talk to your crush

Giving items to a peer will boost your reputation and will make you popular around school

Phone option

The phone has 8 apps to use. Camera where you can take photos with the C button or left trigger, the school yearbook(if a student has died then their faces will be blackened out), main menu, photo album, save/load, social media, mobile games(a flappy bird or crossing road type mini game), and settings

Student behavior

Each student has a personality that clashes with each other. Certain students are in a relationship, have enemies, friends and some are related.

There are 40 students in the game not including the rivals, H/H, and Felicity. If two students are in a relationship, during lunch they will eat together and after talk and then kiss

If students are in a friend group like Felicity, they will eat together then talk. But if two students are enemies, they will push each other when they get the chance

Based on personality types, students will do different things. Athletic students will go for jogs around the track before classes, artistic students will go somewhere quiet to sketch what they see, introverted students will sit alone to constipate, extroverted students will go to large groups to join in the conversations and so on

During class time, certain types of students will be seen doing something that matches their personality. Lazy students will take a nap, joke students will cause a disruption, and smart students will pay more attention then other students

After school, certain students won't be in town such being the introverted, loners, shy, and smart students. Other students will be. Iven is a shy student so he won't be in town

Class system

Each day has 3 classes. One at the start, one after lunch, and one optional one if you need a stat to go up. Each class has subject that you'll have a paper to, in which you will have to answer correctly(Ex: Simplify 7(x+5)(x-5)) if it's too hard, you can turn down the difficulty and still receive the credit

Teacher behavior

Each teacher behaves like a teacher would, they break up disputes between students, gives emotional support to those who need it, and after school helps students who need it

If a teacher sees blood then they will just assume someone had a nose bleed and clean it up, but if a body is found then they will call the police

They won't apprehend you, instead they'll pull out a teaser and taze you(gotta one up)

Sanity system

I wish to make something separate from what we're used to. Felicity isn't a psychopath or a killer by blood, she had a great childhood and her parents love her very much. She's just pushed to do these things which takes a toll on her mind, of course the sanity will decrease but she won't giggle instead cry because guilt is over coming her

She isn't emotionless. Everyday she'll go home contemplate what she done, if she murder someone she'll stay silent. But if she sabotaged an interaction with the rival, she'll blame herself but then think about her crush and she'll forgive herself afterward

So. Whadda think? Too ambitious?

This marks the kickoff to HEA (Happily Ever After) Marvel’s Holiday Movie Challenge! If you don’t know us, we’re a group of crafty mods under the direction of our own personal Pepper Potts ( @betheflame​​ ), so really, this is going to be great fun, and we hope that you’ll join us!

A brief intro to our event:

At no point do you need to sign up for this event. You are not beholden to post anything, even if you say that you will. This is a guiltless, fun event!

Pick a prompt, any prompt!

Interpret the prompt any which way you wish. We have prompt examples available for people to peruse on our blog and on our Discord, if you’re in need of a few examples.

Write (or art, podfic, or moodboard, etc.) any ship you want, even polyamorous relationships of any number or type (even if the prompts contain just two characters!).

Include additions from our badge list if you wish! They function like video game achievements (think World of Warcraft, or Xbox) and you will be rewarded with little achievement badges designed by the wonderful @kocuria​ that you can display anywhere you please.

The collection will open on November 1st and close on December 24th.

Episode 4 - Meng Yao has a crush & Foxglove likes to babble

Hello everybody, welcome to episode 4. I slept like a baby last night, but I have a migraine so I may sound a bit incoherent. (Post episode Foxglove here, I’m not incoherent in this, I’m just ranty)

Poor WWX. Funny story, during my first? Second? Year of Med School I fell aspleep on my biophysics notes during exam period, woke up at 9pm when my alarm for my meds started ringing, realised what I’d done and called my mum (who was on a 24h shift at the hospital) crying. In hindsight is hilarious because I had something like two weeks until the exam so I lost no more than a few hours but oh well.

Full disclosure here: I don’t like the Lan sect, LXC, LWJ and the Ducklings excluded I think they’re a bunch of hypocrites. You can’t call yourself righteous and boast about your almost 4000 rules and then shrug when people decide to commit genocide.

Also, 4000-ish rules? Fuck that noise, there’s a post floating around here where some amazing soul translated what they could see of the Wall of Rules and yeah, some of them are in the “don’t be an asshole, don’t hurt yourself or others” vein which, absolutely fair. But things like “dress properly” who are you to tell me what and how I cover my body with? “Don’t be promiscuous” wow thanks for the slut shaming my dudes. “Don’t smile foolishly/don’t smile too much”, “sit properly”, “don’t be too sad”, “don’t be too happy”. NHS introduces him to the other two from the One Braincell Trio. WWX takes one look at him and goes “yep, you’re my friend now, I’m kneecapping anybody who fucks with you.” Because there’s no way he wouldn’t be sympathetic to MY after his own childhood (omg, both of them drunk, making terrible gallows’ humour jokes about living poor and mostly homeless while JC and NHS just listen horrified). JC goes into overprotective bro mode with MY. I mean, he still can’t emote for shit but he’s made very very sure that he will cut a bitch for MY and at least he knows MY has a brain, not like someone else he knows.

Shijie makes friends with MY because Shijie is a goddess and MY is so confused because how the hell does someone so kind exist? And she wants to be friends? And she doesn’t care at all about his past? What? MY.exe has stopped working.

Maybe JZX gets his head out of his ass and goes to talk to MY and warn him about what an asshole JGS is, because I refuse to think JZX doesn’t know it. Maybe MY hears him disparaging Shijie and decides that nope, the Jins can fuck right off every single one of them is a rude idiot; it’s ok with him because of his parentage (it’s not ok) but no one touches Shijie. I think I would absolutely become a vegetarian if I got dropped in the past tbh. Not only is there no quality control of animal products (hello Trichinella), there’s also no way to do a proper cold storage (hello Salmonella). I’ve read and seen to many horror stories due to contaminated animal byproducts and, while vegetables pose their own risk (hello E. Coli) usually you only have to be thorough at washing and peeling to not have trouble.

A High School Life - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Second First Day

Oh, first day of classes after the wonderful winter break! It felt like a breath of fresh air coming through his window into his nose, filling up his lungs and making him feel light and beautiful. The sun was making this winter morning slightly more manageable, with the sun shining bright on the sky, the breeze slightly cold on his skin, making him shiver and appreciate the robe he was wrapping around himself, warm and fuzzy, his feet finding their way into his little slippers, just so he could rise out of bed and make his way to the bathroom. But before, of course, opening the curtains and windows wide and letting all that morning goodness make its way inside his room, his skin being warmed up by the sun, hair floating with the wind. A beautiful winter morning, chill and sweet, perfect for going back to school.

Well, it was perfect, until his annoying mess of a brother put on his god damned punk screamo music as loud as he possibly could.

Roman groaned to himself as those loud bangs and pows made their way into his ears and he looked over at his brother's window, next to his own, seeing the glass and curtains closed. God, their walls were thick, but not that thick! He growled and pulled away before he took a deep breath and calmed himself down. He could still hear the birds, feel the freshness of the green grass, everything was fine... his brother would not ruin his d-

"ROMAN!" he heard the scream, before there were a bunch of punches on his door. Oh that was it. Roman wrapped his robe tight around his waist and walked to his door, unlocking it and being met with the ugly face of his gross twin.

"WHAT?!" he yelled back, angrily, and Remus gave him a suave smirk. God he was the worst.

"Can I get your hair gel? Mine ended last night."

Roman stared at him angrily, at his smirk and his wiggling eyebrows, and his shitty ass makeup. He, unlike Roman, was already changed into his usual clothes, filled with rips, spikes and disgusting neon green. It was horrendous. The... song was also ringing louder now in Roman's ears since both of their doors were opened, and seriously he wanted to rip his brother's head off.

"You... Stay right here. You are not getting inside my room" he said angrily and turned around, heading into his bathroom to retrieve the hair gel. Yes, they were rich, they had each one their own room and bathroom, and they had the money to buy whatever they wanted, but that didn’t stop Remus for not only asking for, but also stealing a bunch of Roman's stuff, from makeup to deodorant, and even clothes and more... personal stuff.

Ugh, Remus was horrible.

After a moment looking for the gel, he found one that was a bit older but not bad. Not because he wouldn't give a new one to Remus (not that he would ever admit that), but because he had learned to appreciate his curls in the last months and hadn't used gel for a while. He sighed, turning around to go back to his door, when he saw that not only Remus was inside his bedroom, as he had requested against, but he was jumping on his bed.

Yeah, that was it.

"REMUS GET THE HELL OUT OF MY BED!"

"Or what? You're gonna sing me out of it?"

"YOU-I HATE YOU!"

The screams would have been heard by all neighbors if they had any. Luckily, they didn't, and their parents always left home before they did, so they just kept yelling and fighting until they began to run late for school. Remus sure didn't care but Roman did, since his new objective was to turn into a 'good boy', so he had to be perfect.

And besides, Logan was probably already waiting for him next to the bus stop. So he needed to hurry.

 Virgil was... not excited for school, to say the least. He hadn't been able to sleep very well the night prior, due to knowing that in the next morning he would be back to school again, and sure maybe it wasn't so bad but he still wasn't fond of the thought of getting inside a classroom filled with people, closed in all sides, having to share the same air with everyone for around two hours before he could leave and breathe again.

None of those thoughts brought him too much comfort, and not even thinking about Remus and Dee was helping too much.

First of all, Virgil was not a bad guy. He wasn't. He did... fine in school subjects, he wasn't rude to people unless they deserved it, the teachers all found him quiet but he didn't disrespect their class or caused any trouble, and he surely didn't manipulate people into doing what he wanted on propose. Sure, he was friends with the two most troublesome boys at school but he wasn't so bad, and he was determined to prove he could be someone who just walks by unnoticed like the middle grounders were. He didn’t want to be good, he just didn't want to be bad, and that was a hard fee. Why? Because he was friends with the two most troublesome kids in school.

Dee and Remus weren't bad on their own. Many times they had protected Virgil as one of their own, made sure he was safe and feeling calm, but they also demanded too much of him. He hated having to pretend to be rude around people they didn't like, he hated not being able to watch classes because it was 'skip class time', and all those little things they made him do were turning out to be too much.

He wanted his own life, his own choices, his own path, and thus he wanted to become friends with other people. But that was hard too. He was anxious, nervous, insecure, and he wasn't good at breaking the ice around people he didn't know. So hopefully something... something good would happen.

After he convinced himself to get up, Virgil made his bag and left his room, heading down the street towards school. He lived close enough that he didn't have to take the bus, but the walking over there still took fifteen minutes. And, Dee lived exactly in the middle of the way between his house and the school, so seeing him was a routine now.

And as Virgil predicted, Dee was there, in front of his own house, waiting for Virgil to come closer.

"Hey Virg" he said, smirking widely as he took his place next to Virgil. Dee was quite the scary fellow, always portraying a superior smirk and wearing questionable clothes (although Virgil could say the same about himself), usually too formal for a high school scenario. And the scar...

Virgil always tried to be open and understanding about other people, their personalities and their peculiarities that made them their own person. Virgil himself had some scars of his past, some that he showed and others that he wasn't still comfortable with sharing the story. But Dee... Dee wore his scar with so much pride. Like it was his favorite feature about himself. It made Virgil uneasy, every single time he saw it after a long time without looking at him. His brain almost created a version of Dee where the scar was nowhere to be seen, and he looked softer, sweeter... but that wasn't the true him. The scar fit him, Virgil concluded.

"Hey D" he said, pulling his bag closer to his shoulders, tense and hunched over as he usually was. "How was vacation?"

"Oh you know, the same as usual" he shrugged, and turned to face Virgil. He could feel his eyes on his skin despite not looking back. "What about you?"

"They were fine... any plans for this new year that is starting?" he asked, although he didn't want to know. Dee knew he didn't want to know, but he chuckled and said it anyway.

"I didn't give up on my objectives from last year... but now I actually have a target" Dee said, and the way he did so made Virgil feel a shiver on his spine. When he looked up, Dee's yellow eye was staring back at him, half of his smirk making the vision much more terrifying. "I won't tell you just yet... my plan will begin soon."

Virgil wanted to stop him, he wanted to tell him to quit it, but what courage did he have? None. Absolutely none. So he drifted his eyes back down to the floor and nodded.

"Alright... Tell me when you're ready..."

"No Virgil... I will tell you when you are ready."

 Logan woke up with his alarm, as usual. He turned around on the bed and hit it to shut it off, rubbing his eyes and reaching for the glasses he had left on his nightstand. After retrieving it, he pushed it on his face and turned on his lamp, looking around at his room and smiling. It was so cozy in there, and he couldn't help himself to telling the stars of the constellations he had glued on his ceiling. He loved space.

After a moment of contemplation he rose from the bed, stretching and yawning as he pushed his feet into his slippers so they wouldn't touch the cold ground. He walked to the bathroom, doing all his needs, brushing his teeth and washing his face, before he walked back out and chose some clothes for his day. A dark blue button up shirt and jeans, as usual. He smiled to himself and began changing, or more precisely, removing his pajamas, when he heard a sound coming from his window.

He stared at it for a moment before he walked over, pushing the curtains and opening the windows wide so the sun could come inside and he could check what was making a noise.

When he looked forward, he saw another pair of windows opened right in front of his own, and two wide eyes and blushing cheeks met his glance.

"H-hey Lo! Sorry, I didn't know you were changing!"

Logan had to hold back the urge to roll his eyes, although when he thought of that he had already rolled his eyes. He stared at Patton, who was looking right at him, smiling brightly like he always did, and shook his head.

"Yeah. I'm changing."

So, there was something no one knew at school. Patton was the good, perfect boy, friend of all and example of humanity, and Logan... well, Logan was his childhood best friend.

Yeah... no one knew about that, because since Patton was one year older, they started school at different times and their friendship somewhat broke down a little. They also never studied in the same school until high school, and by the time they met again, Logan was way more reserved and friends with Roman, and he didn't want his reputation to be related to Patton in any way, shape or form. To be honest, Logan was quite jealous of him, although not jealous enough to not treat him as a friend whenever they were alone.

Patton was aware that Logan wanted nothing to do with him when they were in public, being at school or at the mall or anything like that where they could be seen by people from school. But at their houses, which were in a very suburban place, away from school, Logan didn't mind pushing those boundaries away to have a chat with his childhood best friend.

"I didn't know you turned out to be so hot" Patton said, in a weird flirty joke way, and Logan rolled his eyes again, smiling when he heard Patton giggle. "I mean.. you're looking good Lo! Congrats!"

"Um thanks... I'm going to finish dressing up and then we talk" he said, walking back to where his clothes were, not minding leaving the window open. When he finished changing, he went back to the window, getting there just in time to see Patton waving to a bunch of birds that showed up in the sky.

When Patton looked down he blushed, and Logan raised an eyebrow at him.

"Awnnnn don't look at me like that" Patton whined, pouting, and Logan shook his head while fixing his glasses.

"You will never change..."

"I mean why change when everything is good?"

"Whatever. I have to go eat breakfast and wait for Roman at the bus stop. See you at school Patton."

Patton's eyes glistened in happiness and waved.

"See you at school Logan!"

Chapter 1

"Why me?"

"Because you're single and you're my life long best friend! Friends have each other's back, no?"

I stared at Sumiko and instantly shook my head to reject the idea, "Then I don't want my back anymore. I don't want to go."

"Ah (Y/N) please." She clasps her hands in a prayer pose.

A long, tired sigh escapes from my mouth, but she stays stubborn and chooses not to listen to my aspect of the situation, "Uwaaaah, Sumiko what do you not get? I do not go to those sort of events. Who do you think I am?" 

Even after I had given her the belated answer she didn't like, Sumiko decided to lean on my work desk further and pulled a rare puppy-dog expression.

She's not actually like this, trust me. Sumiko is much more mature than me, but today she's extremely persistent in acting like a crazy aunt because of this silly little blind date thing. 

"You're a bland person (Y/N), that's what I think. And you're literally only going as a substitute so you don't have to uh - date anyone," she explains, "Tag along, you might even enjoy yourself for once. You never have fun anymore, and it'll be like the old times!"

Her hopeful smile doesn't affect me, rather made my eyebrow twitch. Thus, I returned back to my computer screen and continued typing up work as a way to defocus my mind off her, "I don't know what you mean. Of course I have fun, I just don't really like blind dates."

"Goukon is fun though! And you're single."

Right, she doesn't need to mention that I'm single over and over again like that...

"Aha, but you said that I don't need to date anyone." I contemptuously reminded her.

Her expression changes from my words, "Oh, whoops... Yeah whatever! Well, the point is that our other girl can't make it, and we can't have one guy hanging 'cuz it'll be really awkward being the only partner-less one."

"Mm, I see."

"You know what? If you join, I'll even pay for all the stuff you order in the restaurant we're meeting at."

Oh actually, that's something I love to hear on an overworked Friday... Especially since I'm a person that will never be made out of money and buy luxuries.

This statement was the only part that caught my attention fully. Because it's free stuff. That particular free stuff being my hearty dinner for tonight.

I raised a brow as a sign of piqued interest, "Everything...? Are you sure? Really?"

"That includes drinks, yes..." Sumiko looks at me with a proud face, "Absolutely everything."

Smiling curiously I was beginning to consider accepting the offer, "Is there anything else?"

"What do you want?" She says.

For a second, I put a finger to my chin and looked up at the ceiling to hum a heavy brainstorm teasingly.

There was this one idea I had which was going to turn this into a sort of win-win situation for my remaining hours left here. And so I chuckled at Sumiko in this suspicious style whilst her smile instantly wiped off her face - a pensive expression replaced that smile.

Even when watching her quick shift of emotions, I kept beaming as my mind made the decision. 

"Here." I said. 

I had grabbed the four large piles of documents that were all 5cm thick.

Earlier, it was idly lying next to my computer, waiting for me to start on it. And now, I placed it in front of Sumiko, where she then gawked at me.

You know what made it better? That loud flop sound it made after being dropped. 

"W-What?" She gasped.

"Haha, you can do my work."

With my clenched fist raised in front of my face, I furrow my brows in determination. She on the other hand glared at me with threatening intent.

"Thank you very much!" I said, "I'm very excited for this event now Amaya Sumiko! But take your time, do your best!"

"Why (Y/N) -!! You little rascal, you're taking advantage of this aren't you?!" She exhales heavily in disbelief through her mouth.

My chin moves to rest elegantly over on my two intertwined hands that were put up on the desk, "So, when is it? Tell me more, I'm so very excited for this. Is it after work? Seven? Eight? Or are we going wild and starting at nine? Which restaurant is it? "

"God. You're never funny when you do this." She pretends to throw the documents in my face, I however pretended to act scared by shielding myself with my arms. Afterwards, Sumiko continues, "I won't be the one picking the restaurant, but this other guy is gonna do it and he'll text us the location probably an hour before it starts at eight."

"Oh so in three hours to get work done?" I ask.

"...Yeah. I guess."

"Then you better get all that work done or else you'll be working overtime instead of going on dates haha."

She scowls at me and I grin with my teeth showing.

I soon observed her storm off to the opposite side of the office where her own work station was whilst I was still jokingly beaming behind her.

I went back to thinking of what could happen with me and the others over in that meetup. I think it won't go awfully too perfect for me, not that meaning I will be pessimistic about it. Ah I'll say it a bit clearer - what I mean is that I won't really be interested in finding someone there since I prefer to meet someone by chance and not choice.

Haha, to be honest... I haven't dated for a while or done anything like this. Well I haven't been in a stable relationship in general for a while. So I'm now kind of nervous...

I've been on a couple dates here and there but never actually got myself a significant other ever since my first real relationship. And it made me a little teary-eyed as I thought my first real boyfriend was probably also my... (sniffs)... Final...

I'd grow into an elderly person and not understand the concept of romantic love anymore as I haven't experienced it in absolute decades by then. Ultimately, I will live life as a lonely senior with dozens of pets to keep me company instead.

If you put yourself in a positive mindset, it sounded quite nice, living with animals until death. But I do not carry that positive mindset so it ended up not sounding very nice.

I did want to find someone before my parents send pictures of potential partners for me to meet and greet... In fact, they've already started - and no matter how many times I tell mom that I'm not interested at the moment, she persists.

Mom wants me to find someone, get married, live in a better house, be financially stable and add new children to the family tree one day, all that whatnot!

Of course, I know she's just worried about my future, but how am I supposed to find love if I basically forgot how it feels? 

In addition, there was also this. My lack of feeling for romance is often what makes all the dates I've been on every blue moon, only be a date. Only one date, never another one again. I just can't seem to identify a sort of love with other people, and it makes me afraid about my future.

I guess another factor for my lack of dating experience may be due to my specifically high-level standards I have raised. Because ever since three years ago, I now tend to struggle to find a suitable partner that would make me feel as much emotions as my last one did.

After all, I can't lie to myself that me dating my ex-boyfriend was something I think during some of my nights, not that I wish to reunite of course. But I think about how it's a little strange that he's the one of the only people I'm not related to I've known for a large portion of my life and also the one I strived for more than my current career. 

The most important thing to me is my job. But back then, the most important thing to me was him. 

From the beginning of middle school, I've known him and I proceeded to get to know him at high school too. So in a way, we were childhood friends, right?

We lived in the same neighbourhood , him actually living right opposite me - we went to the exact same schools too, middle, high school and college. It was like we were meant to be or something haha!

Well... His name was Kita Shinsuke.

He's definitely the I'm-so-perfect-and-good-looking-but-don't-know-it kind of guy, if you get what I mean.

Kita was respected by so many people. He's responsible, always got excellent top tier grades, talks very polite Japanese, always was the teacher's favorite, was even captain of our high school's volleyball team and mentioning it once more, he was quite good looking too. For a bit, I kept having this stigma that his existence was simply unfair and unbelievable... He can do practically anything and wouldn't react that much as if he's some kind of snobby prince. But soon, when I observed him more, everything was done unintentionally and he was simply like that.

...

Often in stories, dramas or anything similar, two kids that live closeby, or have known each other since young are portrayed as something incredibly sweet. Most commonly called this concept of childhood sweethearts.

Two kids would routinely go to and from school together, possibly holding hands, picking sticks that look like magical wands from the ground, buying ice pops in the summer, blowing bubbles, they'd get told off by the elders, constantly spark up trouble together and they'd pet the stray cats etcetera, etcetera. These two would enjoy each other's presence obliviously not knowing what would develop in the future. Because once those kids grow up, only then would they realize what they share is a friendship that has actually been blooming into love. 

I guess that's my summary of one of the examples of childhood sweethearts, but I have yet another one to mention!

Two kids in a love-hate scenario this time, to which I think is a little more complicated.

In this case, one party doesn't like the other at first. However, the other party would take somewhat interest whilst still not liking them too. So throughout time, these two will glare and click their tongues in irritation, not even batting an eye of respect at one another. And so their initial relationship therefore being rigid and competitive - but likewise, once they grow up and become more mature, they come to realize they're used to each other's presence so much that it's odd to not live without it! Suddenly they're like, (gasp) Oh!! It must be true love!!

Maybe if fate had given me a childhood sweetheart like that, I could walk around with hearts in my eyes like what you'd see in television shows.

But me and Kita weren't really like either of those.

We really and truly were just two separate lives that lived coincidentally close. 

At my younger age, I'd be at home reading manga, watching Doraemon and singing the opening song for Cutie Honey Flash, as Kita would be doing all his homework, playing sports and helping around his house.

It was definitely during middle school. That's when I started to notice Kita a bit more. I mean to be fair, he went to the same school as me, we left at the same time and we also lived in the same area, who on earth wouldn't notice? And at some point, we were put in the same classes miraculously too.

He was for sure a very good boy. Always completed work to his full potential with that annoying photographic memory of his, often did lunchtime duties and was consistently showered compliments by the teachers! Gah! Wasn't fair! 

He sat next to me in year 2 middle school which was probably the year I began liking him even more. Because I would turn my head and just see him and then my whole peripheral vision was also still just, him.

Kita and me never bickered at that time slot nor did we talk too much - come to think of it, I think it's either because I was too scared or because of his introvertedly noiseless attitude. Well, more or less I disliked arguing so I thought if I ever argued with a boy like Kita, it would end in the worst.

There was actually this one memorable time, still set in 2nd year middle school, where me and Kita were the ones chosen by the teacher to hand out the numbered vests for P.E. as everyone was going to join in for soccer. There were around 45 vests in total, Kita handed out a pathetic number of 6, then left to go play ball as the other boys asked him, subsequently leaving me behind to do the rest...

I was therefore running around angrily, trying to hand out all the remaining vests for everyone.

Funnily, the less vests I gradually had, the more I got angry since it reminded me how the one that handed the majority of these, were all me.

It was only when I finished handing them out and the teachers told us to find a partner to stretch with, I bumped into Kita again purely by accident.

Looking at him made me mad. At that second, I wish I had scolded or ranted to him or even thrown my numbered vest to his face to the very least, but we partnered up automatically and I had no time or build-up of confidence to do any of that. Instead, I just copied how he was stretching with a scornful face.

He was stretching with complete concentration adding onto this air of tranquility as if he forgot what he just did, and I was weakly doing the same whilst trying to keep my petty thoughts in check.

By the time I twisted my torso to do a different stretch, I glanced at Kita where he was doing a stretch with the opposite arm. And I stood there, watching him, with a slightly open-mouthed expression, similar to a fish.

I was baffled how he was wearing the same tattered and ugly green vest as everyone else in class and how he was wearing just our school's plain P.E clothes - yet somehow, the wind gently brushed his hair, the sunlight made his dark eyes brighter and I saw how he was noiselessly mouthing numbers to himself to count his seconds of stretching.

Similar to a movie, time stopped. Everything turned slo-mo and my heart had a strong twinge at the sight of him. 

It was right then, that was the promising moment I fell for Kita.
