WHY DID THEY HAVE TO ROMANTICIZE THE CAKE SCENE OUTFIT??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Himmel wasn't even there and that was the most ace-coded scene in the entire season other than Frieren outright saying that she doesn't experience sexual attraction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frieren literally says that she would rather eat cake.

Asexual is an orientation that means you don't experience sexual attraction. Demis/Grays r asexual/ace and i am inclusive. we aren't alone.

It’s crazy how many people just don’t understand why a lot of aro and or ace people don’t like that Alaster gets shipped. It’s not that hard to understand we don’t have a lot to let ourselves lose. I mean can you name 10 asexual characters? 5? Can you name two aro characters. There’s the guy from Archie who they made have a sex scene in a movie version. There’s a few books. I think a background character in Heartstopper? Do you see the theme here??? You’re all queer people, do you not get it? How it feels to have nothing? Is it so wrong to be upset that there’s finally an outwardly aroace person in popular media and instead of people embracing that they’re fighting on the internet about why it’s ok to ignore it? And I will never in my fucking life have anything against the people who are aro and or ace and portray him in THEIR experiences, even if it is a romance or sex favorable experience, but it is obvious that way too many of you guys are allo and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t even like him as a character that much, he isn’t even made by an aroace artist. The show isn’t even that fucking good, I just want to keep someone like me for once in my life. If there were a million other aroace characters I wouldn’t care, but it just hurts seeing erasure coming from my own community. It just sucks, man, I don’t know. It just sucks

Canon ace characters 🤝 canon bi characters
Getting erased and if we complain about it we're the ones having "headcanons" and stirring trouble because theirs is clearly the superior interpretation -.-

Being somewhere on both aro and ace spectrums and having a partner is such an odd type of erasure. Like up until accidentally starting to date my current partner, I'd always just say "I don't really date" if people asked about my romantic life and just left it there. I knew that I was so rarely romantically attracted to people, it wasn't never, but the number of people I've been romantically attracted to in my entire life is maybe three? My partner is one of the three, so I ended up having this cute person that I'm romantically attracted to and now share large portions of my life with, but my identity hasn't changed. Our relationship is the rarity, not the normal for me, but now when people ask, and I tell them I have a partner, that larger portion of me that doesn't always understand why other people are so set on having a partner or why there's so much stigma around being single, is just erased in that person's eyes.
I was happy alone and didn't feel like anything was missing. I'm also happy with my partner. But I just hate that the aro (and ace) spectrum parts of my identity become invisible as soon as I mention my partner.

Frieren did not look directly into the camera and announce "I do not experience romantic or sexual desires." for me to log onto tumbler dot com and immediately see shipping.

I might make a couple people mad but "Terry Fawles was an intellectually disabled man that Dahlia Hawthrone took advantage of." and "Fawles' relationship with Dahlia was horribly inappropriate and she was right to distrust him" are two statements that can coexist.

AA fandom has a strange tendency to pretend like Ema's canon crush on Miles doesn't exist (at least from what I've seen) but none of you will ever be able to convince me that Ema doesn't have dozens of Miles Edgeworth x Reader fics on her AO3. You only hate me because you know I'm right

So, I gotta rant about a thing regarding heartstopper that I see so often and it annoys the hell out of me.
Isaac is canonically aroace. AROace.
It drives me crazy when people talk about him "discovering he's ace", calling him an "ace icon" or praising his "ace storyline ".
Like NOTHING about his storyline is inherently about being asexual. It is about not knowing what crushes feel like, not being able to reciprocate crushes, never getting celebrity crushes, feeling nothing when kissing, and just feeling out of place with his friends all dating. Those are all typical aromantic experiences.
Isaac is the only canonically aro character in a mainstream tv series that actually mentions the label on screen. The only other characters I can think of that are called aromantic on screen are in very niche j-dramas that are basically unheard-of outside the aspec bubble.
We need this kind of representation so badly. It could help raise the awareness that we need to fight so many arophobic stereotypes.
I do not like to play Oppression Olympics or anything as we all are fighting against aphobia and are barely represented. But... we literally need his representation more than the asexual community does. There are several other mainstream (or at least semi-mainstream) TV shows that have canon ace characters while also using the word asexual for them. There are Cash from Heartbreak High and Todd from Bojack Horseman, just to name two from the top of my head.
I'm not asking you to stop calling him asexual. Just, PLEASE call him aromantic, too.

One thing I've noticed about the erasure of aspec identities is that it's eerily familiar to the erasure of non-binary identities. Often times Aspec identities are viewed as Blank slates to slap other identities on top of - similar to non-binary identities.
A character uses strictly they/them and people will say "Okay but I'm going to use he/him or she/her because x looks like a boy/girl to me" A character strictly states they are not interested in romance and people will say "okay but I'm going to call them a lesbian/gay/any other sexuality because obviously they must be interested in x even though they said they weren't interested at all."
"I can ignore this characters canonical non-binary identity because people can headcanon whatever they want and I headcanon them as cis instead! no this isn't erasure!!! it's fiction it doesn't hurt anyone! pronouns don't equal gender anyways!!!"
"I can ignore this characters canonical aspec identity because people can ship/headcanon whatever they want and I headcanon this character as allo/not aspec instead! no this isn't erasure!!! it's fiction it doesn't hurt anyone! aspecs can still date and have sex anyways!!!"
idk as someone who is both nonbinary and aroace I'm having a sense of déjà vu.
