Since the very first book, Kaitlyn’s always been kind of a wild card, but this, I think, is the exact moment her character took a turn for the worse and never recovered.
The gang puts up flyers all around campus for Kaitlyn’s band performances, cheers her on and encourages her when she performs for the first time, the MC helps her reinvent herself with a makeover to boost her confidence, and the gang all goes out of their way to attend Kaitlyn’s band performances even though Natasha and Rachel openly and repeatedly treat them badly just to support their friend.
But then the MC gets knocked down in the mosh pit, Zig leaps to her defense, and then violence erupts all around her and the rest of the gang, through no fault of her own. And what’s Kaitlyn’s first concern after things get violent? Not the safety of the MC or her other friends, but the fact that her band might get blacklisted from the venue because of the fighting.
And then, she even goes so far as to accuse the MC of egging Zig on to get back at her because of the fight she and Abbie had…the fight that stemmed from Kaitlyn’s lack of receptiveness to the concerns Abbie expressed about her skipping classes after late nights with her band.
But somehow…the MC has never been interested in supporting her with the band. Right.
There are definitely worse characters out there…but shit, Kaitlyn grinds my gears like you wouldn’t believe.

chris: and now, [x character]'s adventure in odyssey!
any given character's adventure: low- to medium-stakes moral dilemma, interpersonal conflict that resolves peacefully, frequently a source of comedy, ends with a benign bible verse
chris: and now, richard maxwell's adventure in odyssey!
richard's adventure: a humiliation circuit of the entire town where no fewer than three separate characters insult him to his face and he agrees with them before he leaves and stays gone for four years

No but the fact that he literally just left post-op and that patient calling him a butcher and goes back to his tent for a moment's peace and this is the first person he sees? Sidney doesn't get a break from the moment he stepped out of that Jeep and into that foxhole.

wes, warly and non-verbal communication
i know we've seen wes communicate in both pantomime and asl, the latter of which can help him with any language barriers he has with the cast if he doesn't speak english (as the only time we "hear" from him is in the english translation for his solo performance on stage, so we at least know he thinks in french. doesn't necessarily mean that he can only communicate in french since he uses asl- but i guess you could argue that asl has more visibility than lsf- whatever, point being that he at the very least doesn't speak or write in english) but i feel like not enough people have explored the possibilities of his communication with warly, who also speaks french and addresses other characters with french honorifics.
there's already a link they have in game with wes's favorite food only being able to be cooked by warly. there's also warly's constant usage of "mon ami(e)" to address characters, which i take as a sign that he can be just as warm and friendly as wes is (i mean, forgiving maxwell for imprisoning him for what was supposed to be eternity is remarkably kind.)
as for lore-based links, i'm not sure if wes lived in paris, specifically, like warly used to, but i wouldn't be surprised with the way klei has characters cross paths that you'd never expect (ie wickerbottom and willow, walter and woodie) that they could have potentially ran into one another but have no recollection of it. furthermore- it could be kinda sweet to imagine that warly could have seen wes on the streets of paris down on his luck after his shift and taken time out of his night to give him some nice fresh food.
but to be real i really just wanted to write this because i had this one thought of warly knowing some level of french sign language (maybe working on it with one of wickerbottom's books. that lady does have access to a bunch of knowledge, why not books on sign language of all kinds?) and surprising wes when he comes back to base after a long day by signing some sort of equivalent to "i'm so glad you came back safe, mon ami." and wes immediately feeling seen, signing back thank you with a smile, feeling like not only is there someone who knows french, but also is willing to go out of his way to learn to communicate with him in a way that considers wes's own abilities and to find a way to further include him in exchanges between the survivors.
additionally, woodie could join in on the fun. i already imagine as a result of his quotes that he has a pretty heavy canadian english accent, if he has any experience with french it'd likely be quebecois french. so i imagine wes and warly hearing him try to communicate with them in whatever limited french he knows in an accent they're not at all exposed to and simply blinking in silence at him before warly says "come again?"
but back to the two frenchmen. warly could ask wes what he would like to eat by pointing at pictures, sure, or just making whatever he wants and sharing with the other survivors, but i like the idea of warly being considerate enough to sign to wes in lsf, asking him that way instead and getting a direct answer. and the answer is almost always crepes.

Just a study/headcanon thingie comparing Maxwell and Wilson's arms and how they're different. Cuz fuck yeah shadow arm + chemical burn heacanons. Plus a contrast version just to more clearly illustrate Wil's scars, these aren't very high visibility. --Just the left arms.
Tiny smidge of hc under the cut--probably not even enough to justify a read-more. Mostly rambling, sorry.
I have thought too much about this.
-Max's claws/talons/whatever are sharper than Wil's. They're also kinda polished and shiny, as well as pretty much scar-less. This is mostly because he prefers his puppets to do the dirty work, but also because he's a little too concerned with his appearance for someone struggling to survive.
-Wil's are slightly shorter and duller from manual labor and lack of care for them. If he wanted to do some damage (which is a last resort for both of them) he absolutely could, but they're not going to prick your skin.
-The skin of both their arms is smooth and hairless, hair just... doesn't really grow well on shadow skin, ig. As you get to the fingers, the tops gradually feel smoother and harder, like, chitinous (i think.) The palms and undersides of the fingers remain somewhat soft and textured.
-Not claw related, but Max has longer palms and fingers! (fingers mostly.) Apparently this makes him water-aligned or something? Based on... I don't know what. Just something I came across looking for references.
-I dunno what that'd make Wil, since his hands are fairly average in proportions. Maybe his fingies are a smidge long?? So air I guess??
-Wil actually holds some amount of pride for his scars (save for the palm cut.) He sees them as symbols of his growth as a scientist. They do however stiffen those areas of his skin and pull a bit, which can be mildly painful.
-The palm cut he really wishes he didn't have. Baaaaad memories.
-Aaaaand on the subject of self-consciousness: Wil is kinda bothered by the shadow arm thing. Less so as time goes on (in the camp it's become pretty normalized,) but he initially wore his gloves over them to try to hide them.

This was going to be a more polished illustration but I'm going to be super busy at work the rest of the month and the "Encore" short got me too hyped, so here's a rough version of Maxwell in some shadow shenanigans. I might finish this in the future, we’ll see

🤝6 and 💓4?
I love you 🥺
I'm gonna answer these for a newer OC of mine — Maxwell ♡ — as this ask I'd unspecified, ty <33
4. Does your character have a favorite material they like to wear?
Airy, floaty, gentle fabrics are best for casual clothing, though he spends a looott of time in woollen tweed suits, and if they're waterproof then it's even better!
6. How much interest does your character take in trends?
Very little because, for a wealthy nepo-baby, he's rather sheltered — not in the sense that he doesn't know what's out there, he probably knows more than the average person about what he considers important (Smirke's 14 Powers and the rest of the esoteric truths that are canon in the franchise he belongs to), but more in the sense that he doesn't have much social media, he doesn't have a lot of real friends due to the sporadic movement of his living spaces as a child, and he doesn't like to go outside. He's good the way he is

I could see Jacobi and Eiffel in a movie where they’re screw up rival detectives who are about to get fired by their superiors (Minkowski and Lovelace) unless they learn to work together to solve their next case.

richard's relationship with money is so interesting to me despite/because of how vague and nonspecific it is in canon. which only makes sense because the show isn't interested in richard's backstory at ALL and, it being an audio medium, it can't exactly give many context clues like wardrobe/style or what his apartment/house looks like. but it's like......... he doesn't have interests, he dabbles in money-making activities. i am practically forced to assume that his mention of being good at pool also = a side hustle. his estranged dad up and left him a house and a paid ride to college. at this point he's way better off than he's ever been -- after 18 years of living with two separate conmen and a mother who doesn't care about him in mediocre apartments, he's suddenly on his own with his future out in front of him, and....... he STILL takes very risky grade-changing jobs for money? like he bypasses getting a regular college job and goes straight to petty crime? and apparently "far worse" crimes??? it's such an interesting balance between craving the security of Having Money and being pathologically unable to get it in a "normal" "safe" way. he doesn't even do anything with it in canon, he just GETS it. he isn't even buying lucy's drinks himself!!!! obviously even richard has bills to pay (which is. very funny to me. sorry that i think 19-year-old college era richard is the funniest person to ever exist, gremlin who's only ever lived in an apartment with his mother, sister, and mother's rotating cast of boyfriends, suddenly has a whole ass house dumped in his lap on his 18th birthday in exchange for his whole ass father's wholesale abandonment of him, has to figure out how to pay utility bills on his own, maybe thinks about getting a barista job or whatever kids did in the 80s, record shop clerk job?? and then nopes past it and picks "exploiting a child genius" as a career path instead. what a fucking legend. i also think he murdered people for money a couple times but that's just me) sorry i've lost the plot of this post thinking about campbell county community college computers richard. imagine being the people at the 5 Cs in charge of hiring STUDENT COUNSELORS and seeing richard maxwell strut into his interview and thinking "yes this 18-year-old suspiciously home-owning kid who talks like a john hughes movie antagonist and is currently his kid sister's very much illegal guardian is the perfect fit for our emotionally and socially fragile 11-year-old resident genius. what could go wrong" and then they have to pay for nicholas adamsworth's therapy sessions for the next 5 years because richard maxwell was what could go wrong. fuck. "waylaid in the windy city" maybe be my personal favorite richard but pre- and mid-"eugene's dilemma" richard is definitely the weirdest and funniest
