I am liking Jujutsu Kaisen, way more than I imagined I would, but I foresee it will let me down and it's keeping me from enjoying this as much as I could haha
I think the characters and dynamics are well set, and I think many of them have an incredibly good and deep potential, but I would be willing to bet they'll not get a proper development, enough for them to really hit. A well assembled set of gears is not enough to make the movement go, you have to wind the clockwork.
I think Gojo and Megumi have a fascinating and very complex dynamic, but I doubt it will be given the time and care that imo it needs to actually work. And it is going well enough for now! One could see the intimacy between them was deeper than the one Gojo had with, say, Yuji and Nobara ever since the very first few episodes despite the fact Fushiguro too was a first year. But the pieces forming what they have are extremely complex, and it just wouldn't be realistic if it doesn't show, even if in a not showing way, or if it doesn't have consequences or implications.
It's one of those dynamics that shape one's life, the way one regards the world, the way one establishes or not relationships with other people. It's one of those dynamics that could be full of fondness, gratitude, resentment, admiration, trust, and that imply intimacy, the good kind or the bad, even if in just the knowledge of someone who's been a constant through your life. It could, and would, imply a myriad of feelings, and probably in such a mix it could imply contradictory feelings too. Even the nothingness would weight, even the nothingness would be significant and meaningful.
Gojo took Megumi and his sister under his wing, the son of a man who murdered him, because of both selfish and selfless reasons. Megumi looks like Toji. What does Gojo feel about this? How does Gojo deal with this? How does Gojo go about taking care of Megumi? Would he walk him to school? Make him breakfast? Celebrate his birthdays making him blow candles? Did he take him to the zoo? Does the relationship between them feel professional or is it something more? Gojo appreciates his students, but is Megumi to him just another student? When Gojo faces Sukuna in Megumi's body, did he see the kid he raised, or does he just see Sukuna in one of his students' body? Did he have one faint wavering instant? And how does Megumi feel about this? Is he resentful of him? Resentful of the situation? Of the selfishness behind his actions? Does he feel like a pawn? Is he grateful? Does he resent feeling grateful? Would he rather not? Does he love Gojo? Does he feel nothing about him other than what he could feel about a teacher that sort of annoys him but knows he's reliable in his strength? Does he think it unfair, cruel or unfeeling that Gojo is close, closer perhaps, with Yuuji or Yuta, considering their story? When Sukuna slices Gojo in two, does the remnants of Megumi's soul tremble?
And not just Megumi and Gojo. Yuuji and Nanami, Gojo and Nanami, Yuuji and Fushiguro, Nobara and the boys, or Nobara and Maki, Todo and Yuuji or Yuta, Gojo and Yuta, Megumi and his sister. Gojo and Geto, even! If the pieces are well set, the dynamics are intriguing, interesting, and have potential to be deep, but then the characters have like two plot relevant scenes that punch you hard, but little more, it's not nearly enough. Especially not nearly enough for the enormity that is shonen dynamics and situations. And the potential existing at all, and then not delivering, makes it all the more frustrating when you're left with something mediocre that could have been so good.
The development of dynamics through not only a few plot relevant gut wrenching moving scenes, but also the smallness of life, is important. The friend who recommended this to me said that those things were just unnecessary filler, but I disagree. I think there's a big difference between a large amount of anime-only filler episodes whose existence is based on the fact they had run out of manga chapters to animate, and moments of quietness. The low stakes character-driven moments of quietness can be so telling and so insightful, and they are so satisfactory when brought back later in higher stakes situations. My friend teased me there was no scene of Gojo making breakfast to Megumi, that it would be an idiotic idea, but it would be so telling. How he makes breakfast, what they eat, if he tries hard or if it's all mechanised, if they have personal bowls or if they use whatever, if he just buys them some pastry on the way to school, if the way they have breakfast changes through the years, or if he doesn't make them breakfast at all! All that would be very insightful on their dynamic and its evolution. All that would give a glimpse on how they regard each other and why, even in the present. All that could become meaningful in tense situations and high stakes scenes.
These moments also let the plot breath; if a lot is happening all the time, if every character is always experiencing trauma after trauma, the entire story is so emotionally draining that at some point you don't even care all that much. Besides, these nothing moments or low stakes plot arcs, besides deepening and developing dynamics, also let some in-world time pass, which would make the intimacy and bond between characters more believable imo; between Yuuji eating Sukuna's finger and their last confrontation in December how much time has passed? A few months? Am I truly to believe these characters are so everything to each other in only a few months?
Without some smallness, some repetition, some daily life, some low stakes not plot-centric development, the dynamics don't hit, they don't truly feel fleshed out, and dynamics as complex as the ones Megumi and Gojo have, or as supposedly meaningful as the one Megumi has with Yuuji or his sister, should be fleshed out if they're going to exist at all. Otherwise they'd risk making the writing feel awkward and fake. Besides, if the dynamics felt well fleshed out and realistic, they would shape the way the characters interact and act, and how they deal with situations, thus being plot relevant.
The shonen genre has so much happening all the time, the stakes are so high, the dynamics are so rooted in big events and the relationships carry enormous weight and implications. Yet they barely get developed, and it feels so stupid, so plain, the absence of something so important noticeable like a constant void, a shapeless nothingness present in every scene. It makes the characters feel like cardboard figures. Jujutsu Kaisen is already getting a better job than many, but I doubt it will do enough for what I've heard, and I fear I am bound to feel let down, and bound to feel unmoved.
After all, if not enough time and care has been given to develop a dynamic, I am not going to feel pressured by the high stakes; if not enough time and care has been given to develop the dynamic between Megumi and Yuuji, as good potential as it has I am bound to feel little for this last confrontation between Sukuna and Itadori, and his effort in getting Megumi back.
#It's not that I think everything has to be character driven or take a lot of care about dynamics#Death Note for instance works well without it. There's juice in the dynamic between Light and his father and the role of Matsuda there#and it works well with Light's views and their evolution and the whole Kira situation. It isn't much. It doesn't need more#But Death Note doesn't truly drop something as big as Gojo and Megumi to then do barely nothing about it#('But L and Watari' not the same at all. That was deepened in the anime and besides Watari is not one of the main characters)#Or Megumi and his sister. If we see barely nothing of Megumi and his sister other than shiny flashbacks of her#how am I to feel moved by it all beyond superficial emotions? I don't know. It just feels so like cardboard to me#And it annoys me! It annoys me a lot! Because Jujutsu Kaisen has amazing potential! The dynamics and characters could be amazing!#But I don't trust they'll live to their full potential and the potential existing for nothing is ruining this for me xD#Jujutsu Kaisen#Sorry this time I'm tagging it. I want to find this and see if I was right when I'm finished. I think I'll read the manga too#The condescending filler breakfast comment by my friend was ironic considering the Kramer vs. Kramer breakfast scenes exist#Breakfast can be so telling. And besides he loves the Chainsaw Man coffee scene so I don't get why not breakfast#But truly some small daily life moments can tell us a lot about a character that we could recognise later on in high stakes scenes#such as how they deal in tense situationsâ what makes them snap#how they go about dealing with a problem.#Sometimes it could be smaller moments or conversations what makes characters reconsider thingsâ not just having Sukuna rip their heart out#In Pandora Hearts the conversation between Elliot and Oz about the book series they love and their favourite characters becomes key#Oz's development and how he regards thingsâ his own personâ and how he deals with situations will be shaped later on by this conversation#till the very end. The entire main character's development is shaped by a 'filler' conversation.It's not filler. It's just not a fight scen#Shonen manga readers find everything filler except for fights which is ironic considering that many fights in shonen feel unnecessary#Breakfast is unnecessary. Just filler. Fighting thirty seven secondary monsters or chapter after chapter of physical training is not. Okay#Things can be small but plot relevant. If it shapes and fleshes out and deepens a character or a relationship it is not filler#And mainly MAINLY for the love of everything good if you're going to make a fucked up or Meaningful Beyond Everything dynamic#give it time and care. Actually write it. Don't give me two panels and one conversation after some life and death situation. It's not enoug#Especially if I'm to believe they are important. Make me believe they actually are#I don't know... This issue with not trusting the development of very well set potential in Jujutsu Kaisen#has not only been keeping me from thoroughly enjoying the seriesâ but actively keeping me from watching for weeks#It makes me doubt if I want to spend my time in this at all since after all time is limited and we can but spend it in a handful of things#A pity. I really love some things and I really think Megumi and Gojo could be everything to me haha the Heathcliff/Hareton vibe gets me

Welp, I've finished the season 4 special...
Anyway-
#the finale wasn't bad btw. It's just it coupled with season 4 and 3 has me tired#I'm sure a lot of people like it#I'm honestly just really tired#I think I've just fallen deeply out of love with lmk#which is sad cause it had me by a chokehold for years#I could rant but I no longer like the show enough to give such an emotional response#Season 3 was already very high stakes and emotional. Season 4 did not need to be#even if I agreed with all the decisions they made. Having 2 high stakes world ending situations with so much angst is emotionally exhaustin#what drew me to lmk to begin with was the villain of the week format it had going#low stakes episodical things with super fun and endearing characters yk#sure they could have an overarching story. I don't actually mind the LBD plot at all#but what they did to SWK... I started watching the show because I saw a clip with him in it and I loved it so much I sought it out#they've massacred my boy#and then the continued angst and stress they tossed onto Mk. I don't appreciate it#maybe I can focus on making aus instead#season 1 and 2 still hold a special place in my heart (season 1 waaayyy more than season 2)#so maybe I'll rewatch those and see if I feel anything#but as of now I think I'm done with the show#ah well

Reasons Why 80% of Romantic Plots Fall Through.
Haven't you wondered why a romantic story you have so much hope for suddenly flops? Whether it's yours or not, let's see what could be the problem.
⢠Relying Too Much on the Outcome
Unfortunately, no romance is complete without an arc. In other words, it is more than just the intimacy. When writers don't allow the relationship to develop naturally, it feels forced. Rushing to the final romance without building a solid foundation will make the story feel shallow and unconvincing. Take your time, flesh out the idea, and follow the plot gradually.
⢠Creating Unnecessary Victimization
I often see writers make the mistake of portraying one character as too weak or pitiful only for the sake of it. This unnecessary victimization can undermine the character's depth and make the story less compelling. Your readers won't cry along with a female character whose decisions are pretty sour compared to a five-year-old. It's just simply annoying.
Instead, both characters should have strengths and weaknesses, make realistic decisions, making them more relatable and balanced.
⢠Cringy Conflict.
Realistic conflict is essential for a compelling romance. Over-the-top or contrived conflicts can make the story feel forced and cringy. Conflict should come naturally and blend perfectly into the plot. It's not advisable to pop a challenge that's definitely not necessary in the name of 'keeping the stakes high.'
Rather, focus on creating believable challenges that the characters must overcome, adding depth and authenticity to the plot.
⢠Neglecting Other Emotions Outside Romance.
It's not only about love, or roses, or dinner nights, or lucky dates with the billionaire. To better understand why we should cry for, laugh with, pity, admire, adore, scold, yell at, advocate for, and smile with your character, we need to know why they are what they are, who they are, and why they make the choices they make.
It's important to create characters with distinct personalities, backgrounds, and motivations. When readers care about the characters, they become more invested in the story and its outcome.

In this in-depth guide, I'm going to dive deep into the techniques and best practices that will help you elevate your dialogue writing to new heights. The Fundamentals of Effective Dialogue
Before we get into the more advanced nuances of dialogue writing, let's start by covering some of the foundational principles that all great fictional conversations are built upon:
Reveal Character One of the primary functions of dialogue is to give readers a window into who your characters are as people. The way they speak â their word choices, their tone, their body language, their turns of phrase â should provide vivid insight into their personalities, backgrounds, values, quirks, and emotional states.
Think about how much you can glean about someone just from how they communicate in real life. Do they use a lot of slang and shorthand? Are they verbose and flowery with their language? Do they struggle to make eye contact or fail to respond directly to questions? All of these subtle linguistic cues are powerful tools for crafting multi-dimensional characters.
Drive the Plot Forward While revelations about character are crucial, you also want to ensure that your dialogue is constantly pushing the story itself forward. Each exchange should feel purposeful, moving the narrative along by introducing new information, triggering plot points, creating conflict, or prompting characters to make pivotal decisions.
Dialogue that feels aimless or extraneous will ultimately bore readers and detract from the forward momentum of your story. Every line should have a clear intent or function, whether it's uncovering a hidden truth, setting up a future complication, or escalating the tension in a high-stakes moment.
Establish Distinct Voices In a story featuring multiple characters, it's crucial that each person has a clearly defined and differentiated way of speaking. Readers should be able to tell who's talking just from the rhythm, diction, and personality of the dialogue, without any additional context clues.
This doesn't mean every character has to have an over-the-top, hyper-stylized way of communicating. In fact, the most effective character voices often feel grounded and natural. But there should still be distinct markers â whether it's word choice, sentence structure, tone, or speech patterns â that make each person's voice instantly recognizable.
Convey Subtext While the literal words being spoken are important, great dialogue also traffics heavily in subtext â the unspoken emotional undercurrents, power dynamics, and hidden agendas that simmer beneath the surface of a conversation.
The most compelling exchanges happen when characters are communicating on multiple levels simultaneously. Perhaps they're saying one thing out loud while their body language and tone convey a completely different sentiment. Or maybe they're engaged in a subtle war of wits, trading verbal jabs that reveal deeper wells of resentment, attraction, or vulnerability.
Mastering the art of subtext is key to creating dialogue that feels layered, lifelike, and imbued with dramatic tension.
Strategies for Writing Snappy, Realistic Dialogue
Now that we've covered the foundational principles, let's dive into some specific techniques and best practices that will take your dialogue writing to the next level:
Omit Unnecessary Details One of the biggest mistakes many writers make with dialogue is bogging it down with too much extraneous information. In real life, people rarely speak in perfectly composed, grammatically correct full sentences. We stumble over our words, interrupt each other, trail off mid-thought, and pack our speech with filler words like "um," "uh," and "you know."
While you don't want to go overboard with mimicking that messiness, you should aim to strip your dialogue of any overly formal or expository language. Stick to the essentials â the core thoughts, feelings, and information being exchanged â and let the subtext and character voices do the heavy lifting. Your readers will fill in the gaps and appreciate the authenticity.
Master the Art of Subtext As mentioned earlier, crafting dialogue that's rich in subtext is one of the keys to making it feel gripping and lifelike. Think about how much is often left unsaid in real-world conversations, with people dancing around sensitive topics, conveying hidden agendas, or engaging in subtle power struggles.
To layer that sense of unspoken tension into your own dialogue, consider techniques like:
⢠Having characters contradict themselves or say one thing while their body language says another
⢠Utilizing loaded pauses, interruptions, and moments of uncomfortable silence
⢠Injecting subtle sarcasm, skepticism, or implication into a character's word choices
⢠Allowing characters to talk past each other, missing the unspoken point of what the other person is really saying
The more you can imbue your dialogue with that layered, emotionally-charged subtext, the more it will resonate with readers on a deeper level.
Establish Distinct Voices As mentioned earlier, ensuring that each of your characters has a clearly defined and differentiated speaking voice is crucial for great dialogue. But how exactly do you go about accomplishing that?
One effective strategy is to give each person a unique set of verbal tics, idioms, or speech patterns. Maybe one character is prone to long-winded, flowery metaphors, while another speaks in clipped, efficiency-minded sentences. Perhaps your protagonist has a habit of ending statements with questioning upticks, while the sarcastic best friend always punctuates their barbs with an eye roll.
You can also play with differences in diction, syntax, and even accent/dialect to further distinguish how your characters communicate. The key is to really get to know the unique personality, background, and psychology of each person â then let those elements shine through in how they express themselves.

Of course, you'll want to avoid making every single dialogue scene a full-blown argument. But learning to sprinkle in well-placed moments of friction, confrontation, and clashing agendas is a surefire way to elevate the energy and impact of your character interactions.
Read Your Dialogue Out Loud One of the most valuable tricks for ensuring your dialogue sounds natural and lifelike is to read it aloud as you're writing. Hearing the words out loud will quickly expose any clunky phrasing, overly formal grammar, or inauthentic rhythms that would otherwise go unnoticed on the page.
Pay close attention to how the dialogue rolls off your tongue. Does it have a smooth, conversational flow? Or does it feel stilted and unnatural? Are your characters' unique voices shining through clearly? Are there any spots where the back-and-forth starts to drag or feel repetitive?

Korea 2023 Viki (watch the series not the movie)
This is a perfect short form KBL, an office set reunion romance featuring geeks that really suits 8 eps with no fluff and no chaff. Just comforting and yummy. I adored every aspect from the casting to the pristinely simple premise to the quietly smooth execution. Sure itâs low stakes, but that makes it high domesticity and extremely warm and gentle. This is a fuzzy blanket of a story - a cozy BL. It lives in my rewatch pile and you know whatâs best about it? Every single episode is in that pile. Thereâs no skipping with this one, it might be good natured and calmly sweet but itâs tight and the pacing is excellent.
Cosmetic Playlover
Japan 2024 Gaga
The most recent release on this list, it came out this year and I've already rewatched it 5x. I love this little show. It's a classic office BL about the older workaholic who loves his job and the younger upstart who unexpectedly loves his boss. Itâs a hyung romance where everybody is extremely earnest and sweet and pretty about everything. Except our seme, who is slightly unhinged and a little obsessed in all the ways one likes best from Japan (if one is me). Plus the kisses are good! Utterly charming unexpected gem of a show. What fun!
Jun and Jun
Korea 2023 Viki
A delightful office romance about an ex-idol who joins cubical life only to find his new boss is his first love. Other boys are sniffing around too. Operative word being "sniffing" as much of this romance involves smell. With a snappy (sometimes even raunchy) script, enjoyable sides, a pretty as peaches cast, and decent chemistry this show made up for in style what it lacked in substance. I like fluff. I loved this. I smiled every moment I was watching. My only caution is this is for fans of the BL genre only, I donât think itâll work for anyone else.
My Personal Weatherman

This style of live action yaoi really only works from Japan. Basically: boys who fell in love in college end up living together but are so repressed they don't realize they're in love. It's higher heat than we usually get from Japan's HEA stuff, and that aspect is also very well done, but it leaned into the "why don't they just talk for fuck's sake?" trope which is only exacerbated into undiluted frustration by the fact that they're already fucking. It's great, but watching requires more patience than usual, even for Japan. That said it's also bruisingly romantic. Emphasis on bruise.
Unintentional Love Story
Korea 2023 iQIYI
OMG the plot! Uke forced into a totally understandable betrayal, falling in love despite himself, put into a corner he can't get out of, the AGONY, the PAIN in those gorgeous eyes. Gah. Okay, so: A boy loses his job due to trumped-up corruption charges accidentally discovers his ex-boss's favorite artist, now a recluse. Evil manager offers him his job back, if he can convince the artist to rejoin society. Instead, they fall in love. I found the artist a bit stiff and reserved but Gongchan (maknae of B1A4) is a fucking GIFT - he carried this show (which I do not expect from the idol element). He was luminous with extraordinarily expressive eyes, just drown in the emoting abyss. The external conflict, social tension and pressure is complex and beautifully executed, plus Korea gave us legit side dishes (NOT a love triangle, hally-fucking-luya). All that said, when I rewatch this it's usually just the second half, but WHAT a ride.
Semantic Error

Sexy older boy discovers pouty younger boy has outed him as a slacker, starts out bullying him, accidentally falls madly in love instead. Korea hits it entirely out of the Parks by doing a university BL with everything we expect from BL just done exactly right. Korea's signature quality executed perfectly with added bonus good story, great pacing, stunning visuals, and fantastic chemistry. You cannot ask for more from a BL, let alone a KBL. Another one where the rewatch is mostly just the second half.
Old Fashion Cupcake
Japan 2022
This show had me from the moment they broke the egg yolk with the chopsticks in the opening credits. Itâs about a younger man with a long cherished crush on his boss (ten years older and going through a mid life crisis) who decides to save and seduce said boss with pancakes. Itâs wholesome, comforting, sexy, and a very necessary narrative about still having hope, interests, and openness to affection at any age. Itâs a stunningly filmed late-in-life comg of age/queerness story packaged in a subtle critique of expectations around masculinity, love, and loneliness⌠and itâs beautiful.
Yes yes. But the bit you know you want to rewatch is that long shot with the bite kiss. YOU KNOW you wanna.
Seven Days
Japan 2015
Ha! I faked you out 'cause this wasn't at the top but of course it's on the list! One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL). Older boy dares the hot af younger one to date him for a week. Turns out they both like it... A lot. The leads have excellent chemistry although itâs low heat thereâs still some really cute mutual kisses.
Takara & Amagi
Japan 2022
I gnawed on my knuckles and squealed a lot with this show, but a rewatch is way less tense. Reserved cool kid must learn to communicate to keep the tiny disaster nugget heâs madly in love with. It is beyond charming: soft and gentle, packed with cuteness and high school angst, thirst, & yearning.
We Best Love
Taiwan 2021 WeTV
WBL successfully managed to pick up and combine the best features of Korean, Thai, and Japanese BL as it exists right now. Couple that to the insane chemistry from the leads, and we have one of the greatest BLs of all time, cooking to a recipe I doubt anyone else will ever be able to replicate since only Taiwan is this flexible. It's basically every classic BL trope bombarded at us in two parts, rapid fire, one after another. Rewatching this show reminds me of everything I love about this genre. It is the genre in pure concentrated form.
The End!
I think it's no accident that none of these are Thai, part of a rewatch for me is the brevity of the show, longer stuff does get rewatched, but not as frequently.

I absolutely cannot wait for this election cycle to be over because genuinely what the fuck. I keep drawing parallels to the 2016 election because there are just so many similarities, but what I haven't said much about yet are the ways in which things are worse.
Having the majority of people I know or randomly encounter be Trump supporting Republicans is absolutely wild now, because sometimes they will just drop the most unhinged comments you could possibly imagine into casual conversation as if they're simply commenting that the grass is green or the weather is nice today, and every time it gives me this bizarre sensation like I am somehow the one living in a different plane of reality.
The Democrats are intentionally bringing undocumented people into the country and giving them drivers licenses so they can vote in the upcoming November election, and unless Donald Trump wins and is allowed to carry out his mass deportation plan the United States will never again have a Republican Christian president.
Joe Biden has been using the US military to release chemicals into the atmosphere for the past four years which have the ability to affect the weather in order to trick the American public into believing that climate change is real.
The attack on Donald Trump at his rally was rally a plot enacted by The Deep State, a secret group of powerful liberals who are running the country behind the scenes, and they don't want Trump to win in November because he is too powerful for them to control.
Joe Biden was replaced by a secret identical body double when he allegedly had Covid several weeks ago, and the double is the one who really dropped out of the election, gives all of his speeches, and does all of his interviews now for him.
Those are just the ones I heard last week.
And the reactions I get when contradicting these wild takes range from rage to mocking to a bizarre persecution complex. In 2016 and even in 2020 I was able to have a lot of productive conversations with many people who disagreed with me greatly on major issues, and that is largely not happening this time. If I dare to disagree, they turn to anger, attack me personally, or cry immediately that I'm denying their right to free speech. When bringing up my actual lived experiences with certain issues, I've been dismissed immediately as emotional and brainwashed. There is no room for discourse or discussion anymore, it has broken down.
I know that we've been going out of our way to call them weird, but we're not really talking about fringe weirdo conspiracy theorists anymore, we're talking about your neighbors and my coworkers and your aunt and the guy behind me in line at Aldi. These people are everywhere, they're 100% serious about believing in this shit, and they're voting Republican in November come hell or high water, truth be goddamed.
You know, the lives of millions and millions of women, LGBTQ+ people, undocumented people, and other marginalized peoples are at stake in this election but it feels increasingly like reality is at stake too.
"Alternative facts" sounded outrageous seven years ago...now they've made it a way of life. Unless we can correct course, and rapidly, it isn't going to get better.

I've read some very good meta on the looming ending of campaign 3 and why it does or doesn't work and- still after all this time my main issue (and I believe the root of others!)Â is that we didn't get enough time with Bell's Hells.
Does that sound ridiculous after 120 episodes in the span of three years? Obviously!
But if we look at the in-game time it's been barely four months. We don't know Bell's Hells outside of the main plot and worse they don't know each other.
Between Imogen and Fearne and Orym's connection to the Moon Plot from the start there was very little low-stakes low-level fuckery. No downtime, no long travel, no filler episodes.
Even during high-stakes arcs Vox Machina used to take the time to talk and play and fuck around in the evenings before their long rests. (Cannonball contest in the mansion hot tub anyone?) But they took that initiative because they had already done the bonding and enjoyed spending time with each other.
The Mighty Nein as well! And they had the added bonus of nobody counting on them for anything at first- everything they did they wanted to do. And even when the seeds of their last enemy were planted very early on - they didn't know it would be the endgame. The emotions were high but the stakes were lower. There was no constant pressure to go go go, time's running out!
They got time to grieve. Bell's Hells never got that.
And who knows if the Mighty Nein in their early days would have felt compelled to do the heroics late-game Mighty Nein did! I don't believe so! But they had the time to become characters who would, characters who would make the decision to follow that thread, to put their lives on the line to save the world.
Additionally to the in-game time constraints I think the idea that this third campaign is the CULMINATION OF A TRILOGY put a lot of pressure on the players to always make the Right Choice so they won't ruin Matt's story. That includes both following the narrative to its conclusion whether that made sense for every character or not and- no deviations from that loosely held leash. No "Hey, Matt, nice story you got there, what if we become pirates instead?"
... The first time I really connected with Bell's Hells was during one of their very few night watches (a thing that was a staple in MN bonding time!). I loved when they were goofy, when they turned a break-in into a fake haunting for no reason at all. When they got to be ridiculous and pretend they were livestreaming porn.
My favorite moments of Bell's Hells were the few minutes they as characters got to breathe.

For three generations, the Y/L/N mafia had ruled this part of the city, their influence expanding through smuggling, money laundering, and intricate political ties. âAlright,â you murmured under your breath, reaching for the knife strapped to your thigh. âLetâs play.â
Two figures stepped into the dim light. Han Jisung and Lee Know. You recognized them immediatelyânot just from reputation, but from the detailed dossiers your father kept on the Stray Kids mafia.
The Stray Kids were brutal, unpredictable, and far more cunning than anyone gave them credit for.
Where your fatherâs mafia was cold and calculated, theirs was wild and ambitious. It was no wonder your father hated them.
Han and Lee Know approached with an air of casual confidence, but you could tell they werenât taking any chances. You smiled, a sharp, mocking twist of your lips.
âWell, well. If it isnât Chanâs errand boys. Did you get lost on the way to the kiddie pool?â
Han snorted, clearly amused. âSheâs got jokes. I like her already.â
Lee Knowâs eyes narrowed, his voice low and measured. âWe can do this the easy way or the hard way, Y/N.â
You leaned forward, resting your chin on your hand. âOh, honey. Youâre adorable if you think either of those options work for me.â
Without warning, you lunged. The knife was in your hand in an instant, its blade glinting in the dim light. Lee Know blocked your strike, his movements quick and calculated, while Han stepped in to restrain your other arm.
âCute,â Lee Know said, his grip like steel around your wrist. âBut not smart.â
You twisted in his grasp, your knee coming up to narrowly miss Hanâs side. âDonât flatter yourself. Iâm just getting started.â
Han laughed, despite himself. âSheâs got fire. No wonder Chanâs so interested.â
That gave you pause. âInterested? Let me guessâhe couldnât find anyone else to stroke his ego, so he sent you two?â
Lee Knowâs lips twitched, the ghost of a smirk. âYouâll find out soon enough.â
You laughed, though the sound was more to cover your growing irritation than anything else. âHow cute. You think this is going to be easy?â
The two men didnât answer. They moved quickly, forcefully, but you fought back with every ounce of your strength. You managed to strike one of them in the ribs before they overpowered you and pulled your hands behind your back. It was the usual danceâthe struggle, the resistance. But you knew this wasnât just about you. This was about your fatherâs empire, and if they were here for you, then it was time to face the consequences of your fatherâs years of making enemies.
As Lee Know tightened his grip on your wrist, you resisted the urge to lash out. This wasnât about youâit was about your father. Victor Y/L/N had a way of making enemies, and it seemed Bang Chan had finally grown tired of playing nice. Not that you cared. Youâd spent years trying to step out of Victorâs shadow, but his decisions had a way of dragging you back in.
"You do realize this is going to piss off my father,â you said, looking at Han. âIs that the plan, or is Chan just bored?â
Han didnât seem fazed. âBored? Nah. This is business, Y/N. Chanâs got a point to prove.â
You scoffed. âAnd you think kidnapping me will prove it?â
âMaybe. Maybe not,â Han said, his grin widening. âBut itâll get his message across.â
You couldnât help but smile. âWell, donât take it personally, boys. Iâm not the one you should be worried about.â
Lee Knowâs grip on your wrist tightened, but you barely noticed. It was the truth, after all. The moment your father found out, all hell would break loose.
The ride to the Stray Kids estate felt like hours, but you knew it was only a matter of time before youâd face Bang Chan. The southern sector and the northern sector had been in a delicate balance for years. Your father kept his enemies close, but Chan had always been an anomaly. He didnât play by the same rules, and that made him dangerous.
You sat between Han and Lee Know, your hands loosely boundâjust tight enough to make a statement but loose enough to mock.
âYou know,â you said after a few minutes, breaking the silence, âthis is a sloppy move for Chan. Kidnapping me? Whatâs the play? Ransom? Leverage? Or is he just looking for a date?â
Han snickered. âSheâs quick.â
Lee Know didnât look at you, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. âWeâre not here to answer your questions, Y/N.â
âOf course not,â you replied smoothly. âThat would require actual intelligence.â
Han turned to you, grinning. âYouâre awfully bold for someone in your position.â
âBold is just another word for better,â you said, tilting your head toward him. âSpeaking of bold, is Chan still pretending heâs running the southern sector with brains, or has he admitted itâs all brawn and luck?â
Lee Knowâs hand tightened on his knee, but Han seemed genuinely entertained. âI canât wait for him to meet you.â
When you arrived at the mansion, Chan was waiting.
The estate was grand, modern, and coldâa stark contrast to the warmth of your fatherâs domain. The walls seemed to pulse with the quiet hum of power, and you could feel it as you were led inside. Chan was the type of man who demanded respect without saying a word. It was a quiet confidence that bordered on arrogance.
When he turned to face you, you couldnât help but appreciate the way he commanded the room without a single movement. His gaze locked onto yours, and you stood your ground.
âWell, well,â you said, crossing your arms. âLet me guess. This is about my father. What, did he steal one of your shipments? Break one of your toys? Seems like a petty reason to kidnap me.â
Chan smirked, his hands sliding into his pockets. âPetty? No. Letâs call it⌠strategic. Your fatherâs been playing the same tired game for years. He doesnât realize the board has changed.â
âAnd you think youâre the one changing it?â you shot back.
âI know I am,â he replied, his tone casual but sharp. âAnd you, Y/N, are far too smart to pretend otherwise.â
He smiledâa dangerous, predatory curve of his lipsâas he walked toward you. âYouâve built quite the reputation for yourself. Smart, strategic, ruthless when you need to be. Youâre not your father, though, are you?â
You bristled, stepping forward to meet his gaze head-on. âNo, Iâm not. Iâm better.â
The room seemed to hold its breath.
Chan tilted his head, his smirk widening. âI see.â He gestured for Lee Know and Han to leave, his eyes never leaving yours. âYou can drop the act, Y/N. I didnât bring you here for ransom.â
âThen what?â you shot back. âYou looking for a chess partner? Because I donât play games I canât win.â
Chan chuckled, low and dangerous. âOh, I think youâll find this game⌠worth playing.â
You crossed your arms, leaning closer to him. âAnd what makes you think I wonât burn your whole empire to the ground?â
He leaned in, his voice a soft whisper. âBecause youâre too smart to destroy something youâll want to rule.â
The tension crackled like electricity, but you didnât flinch. This was a battle of wills, and you werenât about to lose.

Writing Notes: Plot Holes & Other Structural Issues
Create chapter maps to find the main issues within your manuscript.
This method is faster than reading through your entire manuscript without knowing what youâre looking for.
Examine your chapter maps for the followingâŚ
Plot Issues
Would these events really happen?
Does the inciting incident happen early enough to grab the reader?
Are there errors in the chronology of events?
Are you able to trace the plot arcs throughout the whole manuscript? For example, is there a storyline that just drops off mid-way through?
Can you follow all your subplots to the end?
Are the events well-linked? Are there any holes in the plot that need to be filled?
How is the manuscript structured? Chapters, parts, various different sections? Is it working in this format?
Can something be done to strengthen how itâs presented to the reader?
Is there enough conflict?
Have you made the stakes high enough?
Why are these events happening?
Have you adequately described what set them in motion?
Does each individual event progress the story?
Is the plot complicated enough to sustain the story until the last page?
Is the plot too complex?
Character Issues
Whose story is this? Who is telling it? Is it engaging enough?
Do you believe the charactersâ motivations? Are these clear enough?
Are the support/minor characters sufficiently developed? Is there a character youâd like to see become more prominent? Is there room for a new subplot or point of view? How would this affect the current structure of your novel?
Is the development of your characters limited by the point of view you have chosen for your novel? For example, if youâve used a childâs point of view but need to explain something complicated, how can you resolve this?
What are the reasons behind your protagonistâs decisions? Do these link back to their original motivations?
Do the characters talk in a believable way? Does this reflect their background?
Is the reader given enough reason early on to care about your characters and what happens to them later?
Do your characters change and develop in conjunction with their experiences?
Does the reader see your protagonist at their best and their worst?
Have you made your characters as in-depth as possible? Where could you add in more backstory?
Do the backstories of your characters affect the plot? How? Make sure this is worked in throughout the novel.
Do the relationships in the narrative progress realistically?
What else can you do to make things difficult for your protagonist?
Does the reader experience a range of authentic emotions due to the characters and their interactions?
Would the character really react in this way to an event?
Is each character the appropriate choice for the role they play in the narrative?
Do you have both likeable and unlikable characters?
Is your protagonist active enough?
Are the traits of your characters distinctive and consistent throughout the novel?
Are the descriptions of the characters consistent throughout? For example, you donât want a characterâs hair to be red in Chapter 1, but blonde in Chapter 11 without any reason.
Setting Issues
Is there a strong sense of place? Are there elements of history and culture? How can these factors be developed further?
Does the setting suit the events that are occurring?
Does the setting create a sense of intrigue? Enough that the reader wants to spend time here?
Are the settings described using multiple senses?
Do you favour one sense in particular? Make sure you even this out.
Are the settings logical in terms of their relation to one another?
Are the details of the setting such as climate and conditions realistic? Does more research need to be done?
Does the setting require fact-checking?
Would a different setting be more effective?
Are the settings consistent throughout the novel? Such as the number of rooms in a house, or the position of a window?
Pacing Issues
Consistency of pacing: do the subplots, climaxes, and tension work in the current order?
Is the speed at which events unfold suitable to your genre and target reader?
Are the major events in the novel given the weight they need and deserve?
Is there enough description in the manuscript that the reader feels grounded within your world?
Is there so much description that the story lags?
What are the turning points of the narrative?
How can the tension be built further in these sections?
Examine the beginning and end of the manuscript by themselves: are they gripping enough? Do they convey enough information without giving everything away? Are they effective in terms of the authorâs intentions?
Are there too many action scenes in a row?
Are there passages bogged down by too much detail?
Other Issues
Is the story accessible to the reader? Can the reader relate?
Does each chapter start and end with a hook?
Are the tone, content and language appropriate for the target reader?
Is the point of view maintained throughout the various scenes? Is it consistent?
Is there one element of the story that overwhelms the rest? Try to even things out.
Are character thoughts, actions, and dialogue balanced out with setting and description?

in light of recent ominous events with the eggs (namely, theories that theyâre hatching, and their even more recent disappearance this morning), i think itâs worth looking at what an insane social experiment of a situation that all the members and admins find themselves in, with us as the overly invested lab coat scientists, so hi welcome to Quackity (Accidentally) Makes Social Experiments 100000% Funnier
when talking about the egg event the focus tends to be on the ccâs and how attached they are, because theyâre the ones we can fully see and gauge their emotional responses. itâs already been well established how genuinely invested they all are. but the eggsâ admins have just as much skin in the game as their in-game parents do
The tragedy of the eggs being taken away isnât necessarily the eggs (characters) dying/leaving. itâs more than that. itâs that, in a way, the admin dies with the character. And the further that the egg event has continued past the point it was meant to end, and past the point of no return, the more true this has become.
richas plays more than the âactualâ members. phil admits to seeing chayanne and tallulah as part of the server and genuinely likes who they are as people. dapper, ramon, leo, pommeâtheyâre all so ingrained in the island that it is impossible to imagine it without them, and to do so would be like removing half of the ccâs themselves. only Worse!
Because itâs so final when the eggs die. so definite. because even if a steamer left, youâll see them continue in their own capacity as a streamer, but the eggs are just gone. theyâre mostly anonymous (richas is again a good example). theyâd vanish like they were never there, with no real way to reconnect with them
and itâs all even More high-stakes from the adminâs perspective. from watching early gegg streams, you can see how, even with charlieâs mic off, it doesnât really feel any different from watching a normal stream?? heâs still there, interacting with his friends, joking around, playing minecraft with them, and thatâs what the eggâs admins do almost Every. Single. Day. what!! an indirect comparison would be an internet friend youâve only messaged and never vcâd with. a more direct comparison (for those who were in the trenches) would be that friend you made when you were 12 and roleplaying on a minecraft creative plots server.
juanaflippaâs admin and tilinâs admin have, on twitter, mentioned how much they miss hanging out with their âparentsâ. bobbyâs admin having to say goodbye to jaiden and roier and actually crying. tallulah and chayanne giving music recommendations to phil. leo interacting with foolish in a pretty Normal Friends way (yknow, if you disregard the bedtime stories) with leo teaching him spanish and him teaching her english. theyâre ALL more than just characters. theyâre people!! what the hell!!!
this is not to say that the admins for the eggs are traumatized, not even a little, or that the egg experiment is in any way morally wrong (on the contrary, I love it! fun roleplay dynamics! acting! emotions repercussions that make me want to study their brains!) though i do hope for the admins sake and all of ours that they can stay as long as possible or else their therapy bills will be crazy
because when it comes down to it, friendship is friendship, whether you met roleplaying their child on a minecraft server or not
