while I do like the added dialogue between Sally and Percy in the minotaur scene, namely Sally's speech to Percy telling him to hold fast, I really wish the scene had more of the urgency that it did in the book. Like Grover's heavily injured to the point of incoherency, Sally and Percy literally have to drag him up the hill, and that's when they're overtaken by the minotaur. In the show, having them all come to a grinding standstill and Grover being fully alert like "sorry I know we're being chased by certain death but your mom's human so she can't come :/" was kind of adflksadfjasdf

oh and in the book Percy doesn't immediately pass out. Instead, Percy doesn't let himself until he's hauled Grover over the boundary line and all the way to the big house because he needs help and it's only then does Percy finally collapse. and idk just the imagery of it all -- Percy crying for help, for his mother -- it always stuck with me and I wish they hadn't taken it out.

Whenever people talk about lack of media literacy they always bring up people who think a character doing bad things=the author endorsing said bad things which are very annoying but I feel like we're ignoring the opposite, equally annoying side of the discourse who think if you criticize the inclusion/depiction of dark/sensitive topics in any way it’s bc you’re a dumb baby who can’t separate fiction from reality. and it's like no I know I’m not supposed to clap and cheer at violence against women I’m criticizing how much of it there is. idk if there’s some kinda term for this, but I like when writers give real props to adaptations of their work:

-akira Toriyama admitted the bardock father of goku TV special made him cry, he said it told a great story in a way he would’ve never come up with. This led to him giving the special a direct nod in the manga

-dav pilkey loved the captain underpants movie and saw it in theaters multiple times. He said he appreciated the movie giving Principal Krupp a softer side, saying he kinda wishes he’d done the same in the books

-dunno if this counts but some bits from western sonic media (such as Sonic’s love of chili dogs) were worked into Japanese works/stuff SEGA made

-above all, Gary K. Wolf thought the who framed Roger rabbit film was so much better than his book (who censored roger rabbit), that he retconned the original story into being a bad dream Jessica had and the rest of the book series is based on the movie instead
