Gai has plummeted from the sky exactly twice in canon, one was his fall after releasing the 8th gate. A serene acceptance of his own end. And the second was off the Tobisachimaru, where Kakashi caught him and they fell hand in hand. Kakashis Story (the book) opens up to Gai I think at his most honest, he is childish and selfish and desperate. He threatens Lee into getting him on a flying boat for absolutely no reason, other than to feel the importance of being one of the first Shinobi to be on it. He is striving for a significance the universe stole from him by allowing him to leave past his prime, his moment with Madara where he was no longer human; but God. Kakashi has spent the entire novel not scrutinizing, but pitying Gai for a lack of understanding of what they have left. But Kakashi, who has lived in the past for nearly his whole life, is met with a woman who lives in that same war; who’s leaking grief out onto Kakashi the entire novel. In a moment of her exposition, her; the embodiment of past, weeping before Kakashi, Gai is falling off the boat. A descent into oblivion; an oblivion he wants but was denied. And Kakashi cannot care about the war or the woman or the past, all he does is jump after Gai. And hold his hand. It is by outside, coincidental forces (Sai, on a bird.) that either survive. Kakashi refused Gai to descend into oblivion alone.

This novel is also the first instance of Kakashi being relevant with both of his eyes. I like to think it’s them falling together that Gai really understands that this is the first time he’s looked into Kakashi’s eyes since adolescence.

it's so cuteeeeee (I mean not to him I'm sure), I was talking about this the other day how one of the key valentino rivalry dynamics is that he's kind of everyone's main rival but none of them are really his... and when casey talks about it, he's always careful to equivocate that valentino was ONE of his biggest rivals ONE of the top guys he was fighting just ONE fellow rider like everyone else - and obviously the other ones do matter to him too!! he was already fighting his fellow baby aliens and dovi way before they got to valentino, he already had his own dynamics with them and they were all already rivals... plus his last two years in motogp feature a version of valentino who is basically competitively irrelevant... but. but!! it still doesn't change anything! valentino will always be casey's main career rival, casey will always be One of valentino's rivals

dead giveaway that in his autobiography chapter for 2011, a season in which valentino just literally does not matter, casey spends so much time giving his in-depth assessment of valentino's career and soul - using jerez as his jumping off point to call valentino a talentless hack without respect or class or kindness in his heart... like by that point him and jorge do more or less get on, they're at the very least united in having been burnt by their respective valentino feuds and are motivated to keep things pretty chill that year. but casey's obviously no stranger to using a bit of spite and anger and RESENTMENT to fuel himself... valentino might be irrelevant, but the key aspect of that dynamic of those two years is that casey simply cannot leave well enough alone. there is no point at which he even HESITATES before plunging into another petty bickering match with a man who is spending much of his time languishing in pee eight. at the end of the day, whatever casey's rhetoric might be, of course valentino is the rival who matters the most to him!!! when they're actually fighting for a title and even when they're not. no matter that valentino isn't even the rival casey's technically fought the longest

so yeah. something dead frustrating about that I reckon. casey inevitably part of valentino's legacy. I mean, it's his fault for rocking up again first time since the pandemic for valentino's two part swansong. such a stifling legacy, right... casey in late 2021 is such a fun mix between showing how he's totally over it, making up with valentino, exchanging helmets, all the rest of it... and then a couple weeks later he makes sure to get in another jibe or three. maybe he saw the caption. this would be a kind of petty thing to get annoyed about but casey's a kind of petty guy, so I'm sure if he saw it he absolutely did

For real though as someone who has watched both MP100 and Steven Universe I can tell you with relative certainty that the reason SU is so hated is because there were complex women in it. A lot of the guys (gn) that praise MP100 as SUCH a good show that shows the power of MERCY and UNDERSTANDING are literally the same people that shit on SU for being "too pussy to prosecute its villains properly" <- real words from a man I've spoken with about it 🙃

I like both shows and they're actually very similar, which is why it's hysterical to me when people try to rag on SU after having praised MP100 so ardently like,,,,if you're misogynistic just say that lmao

aside from sammy and amy (obviously), literally everyone else can be shipped with one another and it'd make sense to some degree, like it takes skill to create a group of people so inherently shippable (platonically and/or romantically) and ofc the writers didn't know it they just shoved a bunch of random ppl together and dusted their hands off on it but fr tho 😭

Guys. I just went to prom all by myself without a date (cuz nobody asked me) and friends (even tho I’ve been living here for 3 years). I was going to just mope and be sad, but I decided to just have an epic time and be really happy. I even went out on a limb and asked this dude to dance with me, and he was genuinely happy and ACTUALLY had rizz, and turned out to be an elite smash bros player who actually likes and plays kingdom hearts.
