Okay so for one, I kinda have a whole bunch of lore for Steve that I’ll start off with

So Steve was completely unplanned, and he’s known that for years. He didn’t quite see the tension between his parents (well, he was like…four when it started getting really bad, he didn’t know much better) but he remembers the fighting, the screaming at him over the littlest things, everything. He was eight when his parents dropped the ball and told him they were getting divorced, and obviously that meant a lot for him. He went from being a punching bag to being a pawn in his parent’s game. Whenever they’d be with him one on one, they’d spoil him rotten, but then they’d follow it up with ���I bet your mom ain’t gonna beat this, huh, kid?” or “Dad’s gonna wish he came up with this!” but all Steve knew was he was angry. He didn’t feel loved, and he knew he wasn’t loved. Not in the way he should’ve been.

Eventually his Dad got full custody. His mom was addicted to crack cocaine over the time period the custody battles began and not only was it used against her in court, but it was also used as a scare tactic for Steve.

Steve was maybe nine when it all ended and he got settled in with his dad. Last he heard his mom’s in jail, or rehab. He can’t remember. He doesn’t want to remember. His dad isn’t much better, and he starts leaving Steve alone at home so he can go drink.

Steve’s relationship is very on again off again with his dad, he wants to love his dad, he wants to have a father-son connection with him as his only kid, but he also can’t shake the fact that his dad constantly prioritizes his alcohol over their relationship

Steve was a very angry kid—he took out his anger at his home life on other kids. He was dubbed the “problem child”. Not only that but he used to get picked on a lot in school, specifically for his looks, namely his teeth. The bullying at school went away when he started getting muscles tho, but it still left imprints

He started lashing back at people, he got violent sometimes. Violence was the only way he was taught to express himself. When Mom got mad, she would hit his dad. When Dad was upset with his mom, he’d whale on her. When someone wa specking on Steve, he finally bit back. Literally.

Him and Soda actually became friends because they’d both gotten their recess taken away when they were in second grade—Steve for being violent and Soda for “lack of respect and attention”. Soda was the only one who was actually nice to Soda when he didn’t need to be.

Steve actually used to pick on Sodapop a lot. He saw the rest of the kids pick on Sodapop, and if bullying Sodapop was the only way he could fly under the radar, he’d join in. The reason they became friends was because Sodapop was genuinely upset and Steve had never seen him like that before, and for some reason it hit a nerve.

They became freida’s after they explained their situations to each other and found a common interest in catching bugs (not ladybugs tho Steve hates those)

Anyway back to the angst

As Steve gets older, gus relationship with his father gets worse and worse. His father is a wild card. Some days Steve will come home from work and his dad will be grilling something, other times he’s getting beer cans chucked at his head and tobacco spat in his face as he’s told to get out and never show his face again

Steve spends a lot more time in the lot than maybe even Johnny. Johnny doesn’t wanna be a burden, Steve has too much pride to ask for help. The two of them sometimes show each other the best places to find food, or some sense of warmth in the winter.

Speaking of, Johnny and Steve are both victims of abuse, but they cope and reflect it very differently. Johnny just lost all hope in the world while Steve wakes up seeing red. If the world isn’t gonna treat him fair, why should he treat anyone else fair?

Him and Evie don’t fight often, but when they do, it’s usually a shouting war that ends with one of them storming out and the other trying to talk it out for a few days. Usually the fights are over Steve’s home life, or his pride and how it gets in the way of their relationship…but the main thing they fight about is Steve’s jealous nature

I’ve talked about this in the past, but Steve puts up a facade and acts like he’s got all this bravado and he’s cool and smart and he makes good marks, he knows cars better than he knows people sometimes, he’s got an awesome partner (whether that’s Evie, Soda or both is up to you), but deep down he sees himself as flimsy and like he needs to put up his front in order to seem like there’s nothing wrong…but he gets jealous super easily.

He gets accusative very quickly. If Evie’s talking to a guy friend, he’s gotta come over and start talking over the guy and getting overly touchy. If Soda’s making a new friend, he’s gotta be there showing he’s Soda’s best friend. Both Soda and Evie understand—Steve’s been replaced and put on the back burner way too many times, but it angers them both. Often to the point they confront him and it escalates. That’s what their worst fights are over.

Every time he fights with one of them he feels physically ill. Contrary to popular belief but Steve doesn’t like yelling. Every time he yells, all he can see is his younger self cowering from his screaming parents, but once he starts he can’t stop

Steve’s “love language” is gift giving, and not in a good way. Hr thinks that five bucks and a dinner date is a good apology, because that’s what his dad taught him, and that’s what he tolerated. He’s not great with being confronted post fight, with neither Evie, nor Sodapop. They both understand, but they can’t help but to feel angry with him at times. They don’t blame him, not completely, but it’s hard when your boyfriend/best friend “apologizes” by handing you five bucks and tells you to “buy yourself something nice” and then just…leaves like nothing happened.

He comes to his senses after a couple of days and offers a genuine apology. Apologies aren’t frequent from Steve, so they know he means it. They’re both trying to give him better ways to apologize and show his affection, though.

They’ve both had separate talks with him—a lot of crying, a lot of hard things came out, a lot of hard things were said (on both sides), but afterwards, he doesn’t do it as much, and he’s learning to genuinely apologize

Steve will not admit this to a single soul but he’s scared to death of drinking if doing drugs. He knows addiction runs in his family and he’s seen what his Mom looked like, what his dad acted like…he’ll still drink with Soda, usually as a way to break his frustrations, but every time he does he’s shaking, barely able to get it down. He drank to the point of passing out one time and never drank again because he was just so scared of becoming who he hated most.

Steve actually got a letter from his mother in prison the same week Pony left, the same week Johnny and Dally died, the same week Sodapop got with letter from Sandy. He threw up after reading it. Not a single soul knows. For now, at least.

The things Pony says do affect Steve a lot more than he lets on. He hears a lot of that from his dad, or he heard that in school a lot…it was very hard for him

Steve doesn’t love the Curtis house. He feels disrespected and unwelcome because Pony obviously doesn’t like him and he feels Darry hates him. Him and Soda have spoken about it before, but he doesn’t like bringing it up. Soda has enough fights to mediate.

Speaking of Darry, Steve was never very fond of him. He felt Darry was trying to be too fatherly for him, and his “brawn no brains” comment was meant to push Darry away. It worked too well and Steve still beats himself up over it.

The hardest moment of Steve’s life was probably the week of his sixteenth birthday. His dad and him fought worse than ever, and he just felt so helpless and like he had no one there for him, and he ended up attempting to take his own life at the lot. He wasn’t sure who brought him to the Curtises, but the next thing he knows, Soda’s there, bawling his eyes out so hard he’s making himself sick as he’s simultaneously trying to communicate how worried he was and how angry he was.

They had a long conversation that night, Steve just unraveling before Soda and telling him everything that happened, everything that had happened, his mom going to jail, his dad’s on and off behavior, how he felt about his placement in the gang…everything was coming out, and that was probably the hardest he’s cried around anyone. Soda doesn’t say a word to anyone, it’s all kept inside, it’s all secret with him.

When Shelly learnt she was your second favorite, she was happy.

But a good bit disappointed. What do you mean 'second favorite'?

Didn't you love dinosaurs? So why wasn't she your first favorite? Why was it Glisten?

Would her only being number 2 in your heart mean you would forget her too? Just like how everyone else did?

So she did what she could to figure out how to talk to you. To ask you if you would ever forget her.

And to ask what your favorite dinosaur is, hehe.

So she began searching. At first she thought she could use the Roblox chat...

But after what happened last time they tried that... yeah, no.

So she went elsewhere.

And then she found your phone number.

And she wanted to try it. So she went searching and found someone else, someone they couldn't hear, who rarely used their phone. Especially not for texting.

Then she tried to contact you.

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: Hello?

You: Who is this

Shelly panicked. What if you blocked her? She saw blocked numbers on this phone, mostly scammers... oh no! What if you thought she was a scammer?!

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: It's complicated.

You: Wdym

Shelly hesitated. Should she explain everything? Would you believe her? Should she just ask the question she was dying to ask??

...

Shelly shook her head and decided to try something.

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: I'm someone who's going through a bunch of different phone numbers to try to find someone I can talk about dinosaurs to.

She thought for a moment and quickly sent another message.

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: I'm not a scammer, I swear!

You: Isnt there better ways to yap to people about dinosaurs?

You: Like on tumblr or smth?

Shelly panicked, terrified you may block her.

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: I mean I could. But on here there's no ads and stuff.

You: Dont people think your a scammer tho

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: Sometimes they do. Then they just block me. But I just want to talk about dinosaurs!

You: Send me a dinosaur fact.

Shelly's breath hitched.

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: Wait, really?

You: Ye

You: I love dinos

You: Yap to me about them rn

You: Pls

Shelly almost squealed.

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: Of course!

You: Also what should I call ya?

(xxx) xxx - xxxx: My name's Shelly!

You: I'm [Name].

Shelly froze, staring at your name.

Your name... She was the first one to learn your real name.

You gave her your name.

She couldn't hide her thrilled grin. Even if no one else could see it.

As Shelly texted you, Vee was busy figuring out information about you.

She ran a gameshow for crying out loud! Clearly, more Toons would be interested if she had some trivia about you thrown in there.

But then it spiraled into something more.

Gaining knowledge about you started off small. Things you mentioned in game. Such as your favorite Toons.

It annoyed her she wasn't one of your favorites.

Or the fact you owned a cat.

He seemed awfully clingy too. Oh, and she already knew his name is Blaze. Even if you called him 'Kitty' often.

But then she grew frustrated. You didn't mention enough about yourself when you were playing! How was she supposed to make trivia about you now?

So she began searching.

And figured out how to leave the game. Then how to leave Roblox on devices.

Specifically your device.

She didn't notice nor care that Shelly did it first.

No one noticed Shelly could leave because they never noticed she was gone.

Then Vee found the microphone function on your phone. Then she connected herself to it.

And suddenly...

She could hear it all.

She heard you talk, even when you weren't playing the game. If you had your phone on you, she could hear.

That's when her spiral truly started to occur.

Just like with Astro, she grew a soft spot for you.

She learnt of everything. From your favorite food to your primary mode of transportation.

And she saved every fact she learned about you to her database. In the span of a month at most, she probably knew you better than you knew yourself.

And it wasn't just the microphone she used for information. She went through your photos, your search history. Meticulously finding any bit of info she could gather.

Unfortunately, though, she couldn't use the camera. Since she could only risk searching around your phone for information when you weren't on it, she was never able to turn on your camera and look at you.

This fact frustrated her to no end, but she had to deal with it.

She kept searching through your phone, one day managing to find your text messages and started to go through them.

Hm? Who's this in your contacts? 'Shelly'? What a strange coincidence...

...and this Shelly spoke to you often about dinosaurs? Hm...

She'd need to keep an eye on this...

Shelly was thrilled.

In a month she managed to become one of your best friends!

Of course she was living a lie, but she didn't care!

To you, she was your silly, dinosaur-loving online friend who you were able to share anything with!

And as time went on, she got more comfortable with you.

And got more and more in love...

She started taking more risks.

For example, she pretended to be a player of Dandy's World, talking about how funny it was she was so similar to the Shelly in game. At least personality-wise!

If only you knew...

Tisha knew of this.

She didn't mind.

In fact, sometimes she would even be able to talk with you when she wasn't busy.

And just like Shelly, Tisha kept the fact she could talk with you directly a secret. As well as keeping the fact she was a Toon private from you.

And eventually, she managed to get enough confidence to sort-of ask her question.

Shelly: Random question, but why are your favorite Toons your favorite?

You: You mean my top three?

Shelly: Yeah

You: Well... I like Glisten because he's a lot like me in a sense. I try to maintain stability and confidence even though I hate myself. And his Twisted form is a cutie pie that made me realize he needs all the hugs.

Shelly: But you're great tho!

You: So a lot of people say lol

You: I like Shelly since she deserves better, I too love dinosaurs, her design for both her toon form and her twisted form, and her lore makes her deserve all the hugs too.

You: And Shrimpy Boy is just a silly man lol

Shelly: Why's Shelly lower than Glisten?

You: I haven't told you yet?

You: mb

You: She's very slightly lower because I HATE the confusion debuff and I like Twisted Glisten's concept a lot. Otherwise the two are basically tied lol.

Shelly: So you utterly adore her?

You: Fully and completely!

Shelly squealed from glee.

You, her favorite person, loved her! The only reason she was lower than Glisten was because of some tiny things she couldn't really change. You thought she was basically perfect!

You loved her as much as she loved you!

Then Vee has to ruin it.

"Shelly... what the f■■■?"

Vee stormed closer. One hand was balled into a fist. The other held her microphone so tightly that if she had blood, her hand would turn white.

"You've been talking with the player for over a month now? You could talk directly to her, and you didn't tell anyone?!"

Shelly gritted her teeth. "I did! I tried to tell you! None of you listened to me when I tried to talk! Not even you or Tisha!"

Vee's screen glitched, and never has she been more annoyed that- despite the fact she was a video game character and thus most of her lore wasn't really real, with her being a gameshow host only real because she went out of her way and did that the moment she figured out private servers- she had a censor over all swear words. Because she had a lot she would like to say.

The two stood opposing one another in Shelly's room, where Vee stormed in the moment she put all the pieces together.

She was by no means Rodger, but even the mystery of the Shelly in your contacts list wasn't too hard to solve.

And both were in their Twisted forms. So if this would become a physical fight, it would get messy very quickly.

"Can you blame me for giving up?" Shelly asks, "All basically ANY of you do is ignore me! The only one who doesn't is Tisha! And half the time you forget I exist! Anyways, YOU also told no one about the fact you figured out how to leave the game too! That YOU figured out so much of your information about them by violating their privacy!"

"What I did is different from what you did." Vee curtly replies, standing tall. "You were contacting them directly. Playing a lie the entire time."

"At least I wasn't going through private photos and search history." Shelly growls back, "Do you know how humans can be embarrassed by people looking through those things? Or do you ignore what privacy is just like how you ignore me? At least until you need something from me, you BITCH."

Vee scowls, slightly startled at Shelly swearing for the first time since... practically ever.

"This is why they don't like you." Shelly continues, "I'm one of their favorites. ME. Not you. So stop violating [Name]'s privacy and stop caring about the fact I talk to them."

"...say that again." Vee orders suddenly, screen glitching for a moment as she processed what Shelly said in the blink of an eye. "That word... [Name]."

"That's their name." Shelly says. "They told me it. Directly. Because I didn't violate them as much as you did!"

"I am not violating them." Vee retorts, processing your name. One of the few pieces of information she knew, but reeled from hearing come out of the mouth of someone who was speaking to her for the first time. "But now ...I have an idea."

"What is it now?" Shelly asks, pissed.

"...It involves you directly," Vee says, "How would you like to practically guarantee yourself a prize in one of my gameshows? The grand prize."

Shelly just stares at Vee, raising an eyebrow slighty.

"And the grand prize..." Vee says, suddenly smirking, "Is [Name]'s love."

The grand prize being offered brought every Toon to the gameshow.

Not everyone was participating. Many were simply in the audience, due to the extra promise of a special prize given to any Toon who was simply there.

The gameshow was split into a tournament. Two toons would compete to move onto the next catagory, and the final two would compete for the grand prize.

Practically everyone was a little stunned when Shelly was a contestant.

Especially when Shelly started to crush anyone who went against her in the trivia.

And they were even more stunned when Vee started asking trivia questions they had no idea how she found out. Even Rodger didn't know this much information, and he was carefully documenting every bit of information he heard you mention when playing. Or others talking to you that they mentioned when playing.

And when people were eliminated? They were a good bit annoyed at losing the opportunity for your heart, but stayed for the special prize.

Eventually it just got to Dandy and Shelly. And Shelly won.

Shelly won by saying your name.

They all loved your name.

Dandy barely held himself toegther when Vee declared the winner to be Shelly. But he stayed. Especially when Vee stood on top of the podium, grinning.

Even if the two hated eachother, Dandy wanted that secret prize.

"Well, now that that's wrapped up." Vee says, twirling her mic, "I know all of you want the secret prize, yes? Even though Shelly has all the right to our beloved player's heart, that doesn't mean you all will just forget about them, mhm?"

"Just get to the point..." Dandy mutters, gritting his teeth.

Vee smirks. "Well, what if I told you that all of you could talk to them? Directly to them. No more little incidents due to the chat, but to them."

Everyone froze, staring up at the gameshow host. It was more silent than when everyone learned your name.

Your name was beautiful.

Your voice was beautiful.

They all loved you.

They all loved your voice.

"Now, all contestants and audience members of this Gameshow of Love, would you all like to learn what a phone number is?

what you dont know is he excuses himself to the bathroom as he start licking the place where you licked...? ew creep. and the fact he's into this? ugh. (its giving siyun baek..)

but it comes to the point where...you feel so uncomfortable...

coming home and everythings fine! no sign of anybody there! except for the slightly crumpled blanket...but you must have done that! silly you!

hey what happend? why are all your friends suddenly hanging with out you...hey why isnt ranpo leaving you..?

hey...your favorite pair of panties...? oh nevermind you found them! hey..didn't you already check there though? huh...

how come everyone freezes when he's in the room...oh it must be since he's famous! and smart! thats overwhelming!

why are you suddenly smelling a strange comforting scent of vanilla? oh must be that one time ranpo visited your house with no warning to play a new game that he somehow figured out the plot fast...but hey he beat the level! so it must be from that right?

jesus why are you feeling watched...its scary...yet comforting..? no! that's creepy!

whys ranpo comforting you when suddenly you feel all helpless? he just...knows...please he knows since hes the greatest detective right? maybe not-

You wont cuddle with him because you want space? oh! he didn't realize you wanted him to reveal all the things youve never told anybody...he said your body language told everything to him...?

now you and ranpo sort of start doing lovey dovey stuff! its as if hes all delusional- your not even dating! but hey...just for a little while right? no more...right?

kisses for every case he solved, every sweet he ate, every small task you or him completed, every kiss for...everything! he's cute as he just starts blushing afterwords!

and it gets creepier- he starts getting all pouty and whiney! typical him but the threats he just said are scaring you

suddenly one day he tells you 'i cant wait till were married, huh!'...you guys just established a relationship without even knowing? its all fine though ^^

but hey if you're a good girl for him he'll let you off the hook sometimes! you get to hang out with your friends again...a bit shorter time but its fine since its ranpo! and if you equally show him affection and praise and love- he's the best!!

hello rio my friend rio. what is the deal with this fandaniel guy

oh brother. youre gonna regret this. i dont know if i can explain this shortly. also putting this under break because i am trying to avoid spoilers for my mutuals not there in the game yet.

fandaniel is a guy who is part of the soul of another character named hermes, long story how his soul got all split up and goes into the games lore but anyways. fandaniel is a guy who was formerly also named amon who was a lead scientist thousands of years ago, his goal in life was to let everyone live forever and let the empire he lived in flourish (even if it was morally a bad thing to do, trolley problem kind of shit). he wondered what the afterlife looked like often, what was out there, he was told by the emperor (that he brought back to life) that there was nothing.

when the empire started to die, he was presented by a guy who told him that he was needed and unless he followed him he would die with the empire. he gained his memories of all the past lives he ever had inside a thing made for hermes thats called a soul crystal. and well. it fucked him up badly but we will get back to that. also he is immortal now.

so he took the title of 'fandaniel' under the guy who needed him, worked with him and a few others who wanted to burn this world down and go back to how things were in the past before everyones souls got split up due to a great calamity that almost destroyed everything. but the world before was kinda like. fucked up in a bunch of small ways. like individuality was seen as incredibly socially taboo so everyone wore the same things, creatures outside their race weren't seen as living, etc.

that circles back to what he was before, hermes. so hermes was the overseer of creation, since in the past you could make new creatures and then they would be tested heavily by scientists.

hermes didn't like society's view of these creatures, to be used and killed to better humanity, if they didn't better society or needed help such as disabilities they had to be put down, no matter how much he wanted to help. he became very miserable due to this. he wanted to see what others outside of his world lived like because of this.

he made meteia, many small creatures apart of a hivemind in the shape of a bird that could easily travel into space, and left one with him to get reports of the other meteias findings, but gave the creature free will because he felt bad for having to keep her there. they communicated sensing the emotions of others, and could feel the same as them.

so fandaniel is a title, like i said before, and there was another fandaniel in that role, but he said his job was done and wanted to pass away (it choice he made, passing away was a choice for them.) hermes is upset heavily by the idea of someone wanting to die and keeps rejecting the role.

long story short because jesus fuck i'm yapping. meteia told the meteion with hermes the truth they had seen, that there was nothing else in the universe, and this overloads meteion as she speaks of the horrors the other meteia's experienced in space. everyone around them is like ? what the fuck, hermes, stop that thing. and when backed into a corner of letting others take meteion, killing her for her 'defects', he stops everyone and lets her go on her mission to destroy the world, because if humanity is so perfect they should have no problem stopping her. hermes erases everyone elses memories of this and his own, staying with humanity to stop her when the time comes.

he takes the role of fandaniel against his will, and is incredibly upset because he thinks he has killed meteion. the girl he clearly saw as his daughter.

back to current. fandaniel has to live with the knowledge that he doomed the past world, and that he doomed the present, and kind of has to let that sit with him for thousands of years. he goes a bit crazy insane jester as a act to distance himself from himself. he hates hermes for being so sensitive but shows it in himself. he tries to bring in the end days by killing himself but fails badly.

basically; he is his own worst enemy and he is empathic to a fault when he is isn't putting on a act. he wants to understand what is beyond life and couldn't handle there was nothing.

the world if whb writing had any sort of consistency in quality between the main story, event stories, and card stories

ill just ramble under the cut instead of sticking everything in tags as i usually do bc its a lot but-

my long standing issues with how the mc is written aside (because that'd take a long time and honestly im used to otome mcs being like wet paper bags and kind of annoying if they have any kind of personality at all, ive played maybe 3 games where i enjoyed the mc), im glad it feels like there's so much care put into the main story like it feels like whoever is doing it is having fun. which is as it should be! but theres a long. loooong pause in between them (which i also understand and support 100% please dont rush one of the good things you have going on) so what we mainly rely on in terms of content is side stories and cards.

and it feels like most of the time they're just kinda ass even with how long it takes between those too.

i'll be real atp i kinda just skip through the card stories if i open them at all bc aside from small moments or the introductory segment it really does just feel like the same thing over and over and the writing isnt really of any quality for me to sweat over not knowing whats in them like i might with nu carnival. and part of the problem is likely just bc theyre so mc centric and i cant bear it for long enough to really care about reading them. but otherwise it just feels akin to bad wattpad smut you'd read as a teenager because you hadn't discovered any good quality writing yet.

and then with the event/side stories (cant really call them all events atp since only some come with a new unit honestly and events in gachas r kinda synonymous with new characters) theyre like. theres such a range honestly. some ARE pretty good (loved niflheim and lucifer intro) but most are so super bland and kind of a drag to get through. and all of them stop so abruptly especially this one theres never just a well written ending or it feels super rushed. and oftentimes it feels like the events past the first couple are only *somewhat* about how theyre marketed. like with the current valentines one you'd think we'd be seeing WAY MORE of ronove and dantalian but it didn't really feel centered on them at all even with most of it being backstory. like as much as i like amon and nabs it felt way more about them than the two it was supposed to be for (and there is already a avisos centric event and funny enough that one was an intro for andrealphus who barely showed up) and this happened also with the early satan/sitri one (which also felt drawn out bc there was JUST a sitri centric one). its just. annoying a bit is the best way to put it. theres SO MANY characters which might be part of the issue but all of them don't have to be featured at a time. it gives the actual focus chars less time to shine and if you were looking forward to meeting them ut just leaves you disappointed

The game in question was Traveller, and I can safely say that Traveller owns. I have only read the first edition of the game, but Traveller is a game very much in the "space feudalism" subgenre of science fiction, but as a game it seems best suited for playing space truckers, as it is a game that is very opinionated about the specifics of space travel, cargo, and the prices of goods on different planets. The latest edition by Mongoose Publishing has sadly abandoned vector-based space combat in favor of something "simpler" and "more abstract" which is just sheer cowardice, but I have heard tell that one of the supplements plugs it back in. @kalichnikov went into detail on those things in the big post that set it all off:

Now, Traveller is already pretty great, but it's not your only choice if you want a sci-fi RPG. Another one that I think is pretty good is Stars Without Number. That one is basically like what if someone took the core of old-school D&D and tried building a Traveller-like out of it. I like Stars Without Number but I think it both fails and succeeds at certain things: first of all, it's very much a toolkit game but without a lot of clear guidance towards what a campaign run in it should look like beyond "a sandbox," and while it is full of a lot of good advice and tables for filling and populating a sandbox and running a sandbox campaign it lacks that X factor of being specifically opinionated in its mechanics that I think gives Traveller several clear, intersecting gameplay modes. Now, Stars Without Number is still good imo in the sense that it's a really good way to get people creating a bunch of space nobodies really quickly and sending them on adventures with minimal friction, but it's not perfect. Also in its favor is the fact that there's a free edition available which already included everything you need to run it: the Deluxe version which is the one that costs money simply adds things on top of the already fantastic free edition.

Now, if you want something that is even more crunchy than Traveller and actively hate yourself, there's also Spacemaster, a science fiction version of my favorite stupid game, Rolemaster. Here's a table.

Now, all of those games are very traditional RPGs and I feel I would be remiss if I didn't mention my recent favorite, Ironsworn: Starforged. Starforged is a game that while a massive departure from the Powered by the Apocalypse framework is still heavily influenced by it, and I think it does some pretty dang cool things with that. It's a sci-fi adventure game that is specifically designed to facilitate solo play but which does also allow for more traditional guided play. It's very much a game about heavily internally motivated space heroes doing space quests and it is extremely character-driven. Besides the PbtA framework requiring a bit of getting used to when coming from more traditional games, the main difference in terms of how the act of play differs is that Starforged is deliberately anti-canon and asks the Guide to not make definitive statements about the setting until those questions become relevant, as it not only asks the group to cooperate in envisioning the galaxy but also very much want the Guide to also take part in discovering what the world is about. In that sense it's very much a game where the world is filled in as it is explored, and that is a deliberate part of its design.

Starforged does cost money, but its original iron age fantasy predecessor Ironsworn is available for free.

Phil: I-I genuenly felt like i lost a hardcore world, like- the 5 year world that i lost? that's what it felt like, i was like fucking miserable. And then bad uh- lost dapper like- like in a weird glitch type thing, and that got reverted. But when it happened, you can hear it in his voice like, he was distraught like- theres like a bond that we share even if is playing block game, you know?

Phil: we're just hanging out like, i wanna protect you guys with everything i can. everything i have i wanna protect you with, you know? but... i understand that i can't protect you for everything, so i just try to protect you from that i can, so... Phil: So it makes it more stressful for the players and the people watching cuz we dont know, so i have to just be super fucking careful... And just treat it like you're on like barely any heart all the time, just in case

Kaishin lovers, DCMK people or Magic Kaito fellow, I have a question to ask.

Is there any YouTube videos that are a review of Magic Kaito by an experienced magician? Or a review of Detective Conan episode or cases by a detective? Cause I'm honestly curious if there are people who reviewed and critiqued the shows plus it's even better if there's a video of a cosplay Kaitou Kid who did magic! Cause I can't seem to find any that and the one's that I did, I already watched.

Can someone please recommend me some good fics? I have scoured ao3, not much on fanfiction.net (you can rec on fics on that too), on kaishin fics so many times that almost everything I'm interested in, I've read already.

I'm not partial to anything about the tropes but I do have some ideas that I like.

Other than a hot top kaito (this is embarrassing)

Pandora Kaito/Shinichi/OC, Dark Kaito (his whole character is practically begging for it, for all that supress emotions and fabricate it nonsense, don'tget me started on Toichi), Angst (when done good, it's done good), Black Org Takedowns (Better if Kaito's side gets takendown too), Death persona Shinichi (like he's a shinigami, angel of death, or anything that relates to death), reaction fics (its like cinema fics of Kid and Conan's life by other characters), Media coverage or news coverage fic (these tends to be a bit silly, can also includes reality shows), celebrity fic (idols, singers, actors, anything in the spotlight), wing fic (do I need to say more?), college fics (I know there are some but i still want recs), Undercover Shinichi or Kaito (can be on the job or part of FBI or the police) And any elaborate world building or lores (can be fantasy, sci-fi, superpowers or anything else, fics like these are rare, especially the good ones)

Now unto the ideas that I dont often see:

Kuroba Kaito doesn't know Conan is Shinichi Kudo (and vice versa), No one knows Conan is Shinichi Kudo (I want to see a fic like this and want to see how the author would figure it out, it's fine if there's compromises to certain characters that are too involved to Knowing Conan is Shinichi but the one thing I know close to it is Dominoes and it's only in the latter part of the fic), Journalist Shinichi (again, Dominoes, and since I'm someone who has experience being a journalist, I'm partial to this and any news or media coverage fic I find), Game fics (either they are players, streamers or anchors, I once found a Kaishin fic on lofter where they're streamers and sadly I can't find it now since lofter has new regulations for guests, just anything game related cause I remember that one otome game fic of shinichi), Shinich used as bait for Kid (I know there are some fics like these but I'm pretty sure I already read those and it's still lacking for meeee), Isekai fics (for an anime from Japan, there's a large lack of isekai fics here) and finally Highschool fics (I haven't seen any fics that feature Kaito and Shinichi as Highschoolers, they can do whatever they like with the plot but yeah, Highschool setting damnit)

ok so i just got finished playtesting the next watcher update, and with all the talk about watcher spoilers going around right now i think im just going to leak everything now so nobody has to worry :3

im gonna start by saying it wasnt just an update to watcher, but to base game and downpour too because they actually merged all of the campaigns into one long one called "the rainworlder" and you unlock each slugcat as you go through the different rain worlds

they FINALLY made artihunter canon, youd better believe i was cheering for every single second of the 32 minute long makeout scene

they also added a two-way mark of communication which i know the community has wanted for some time, although ill admit it was a bit jarring when moon started speaking with the voice of marge simpson but hey rain world has always been a bit esoteric

the monkland region was really well made, and the plotline where we learn about monk's past misdeeds was really eye-opening and has given me a new perspective on her character (mightve raised the age rating with how graphic it was though)

i think them retconning enot into being canon was a bit of a bold move, but really expands on the lore of the game by explaining why some of the new regions (like the ikea region for example) kept turning red for no reason

my main gripe with the update was them removing the fast travel feature of the passages and just replacing it with the ability to give the current slugcat a burger upon use, when i asked the devs about it they just said "people wanted watcher to be able to use passages so thats what we did idk"

my other main gripe was that there was just way too many snails. and the new killer death snails in the "oops- all drainage!" region are so frustrating to fight against but it might have been my fault for choosing the "im going to burn your house down" difficulty

loved the new ending where survivor saved princess watcher from five bowsers' castle, the announcement of monk's mansion at the end was hype af

never figured out how to use spearmaster's new hand stand ability :( there was a keybind in the settings but it didnt seem to work in gameplay so i just needed to resort to their disc form for the tightrope segments

idk why they added deepnest to the game i thought we already had shaded

i thought the inclusion of jonesy from fortnite was cool, but the 14 minute long staring contest between him and chasing wind that ended with them saying "guess you could call us the watchers" in unison was an admittedly weird choice

some of the regions felt way too green, and i dont mean there was like plants and stuff everywhere, i mean they put a green filter over the gameplay for a good chunk of the game

i still dont know what it means to "spin a riv and gourm it" even though rivulet kept saying it like a catchphrase throughout the game. wasnt helped by the fact that every time they said it, they would do something completely different

they turned saint light blue

i will admit i cried when monk and survivor's parents appeared in the clouds and said "never forget who you are... Slugcat™" and then third sibling came out of the bushes and was like "i will show you the way, my siblings, to Rain©™ World®™℗: The©℗®™® Watcher℗™®©™℗⨂©℗✓✓✓". such a powerful moment

it was nice to finally get some clarification on what team cherry has been doing all this time. finally got the silksong release date, but the choice to release it as the next rain world dlc definitely caught me off guard. hopefully the devil may cry fans arent too upset about that

so after Digital Circus came out, I've been having extreme Pomni brainrot, with her joining the horde of comfort characters for me. cracks my knuckles dont feel bad for asking for so many letters! if i didnt want people requesting so many for one character i would have put a cap on it!! i admit im not sure how long im going to do the fluff alphabet, i guess for however long people send in requests for it

BONDING- you guys bond by trying to find the exit/j but also not entirely a /j since now that i think about it i can definitely see it. otherwise a lot of your bonding comes from you showing pomni around outside the tend, since she still hasn't had the chance to explore the rest of the grounds

CUDDLING- small spoon simply because she is very small and needs someone to ground her to reality. very soft and squishy, its like holding a squishmallow

DATES- if this were the real world i can see pomni being a coffee shop person, but since it isnt... hmm.. i think dates mostly stick to spending time together in one of yall's rooms

GIFT GIVING- pomni does not give me vibes that they give you large things for gifts regardless of availability... they seem to be more of a handy small trinket person, "hey i saw this and thought of you and figured it might be of use to you" type of deal

IN HOUSE ADVENTURE- since pomni is still new to the endless possibilities of whatever it is caine cooks up for you guys, she gravitates towards you, out of trust and comfort mostly! you guys are kind of 50/50 in terms of if you guys actually function well as a team and solve whatever you need to do to reach the end goal caine has in mind

KISS- she cups your face, i think.. i can see it, very shy about it too, she will immediately pull away all bashfully. mouth kisses are her default, both giving and receiving

LOVE LANGUAGE- quality time and words of affirmation make pomni feel loved! its also how she shows her love, as well! especially the quality time, but as well as acts of service!

ODDITY- obviously this is likely going to be an issue for a while since shes new, but she is a bit. off given her trying to get used to being in the digital world. but just give her time and youre golden! though, i dont think pomni is ever going to fully accept being in the digital world

QUIET TIME- down time between you two is usually spent with the two of you sitting together in one of the common areas or your rooms. each doing your own activity while existing in the same space, fairly comfortable silence.. you two dont do everything together, and thats a-okay

ROSES- i think pomni would, tying into the "hey i thought of you" thing! pomni would not be opposed to being given flowers, pomni looks like a buttercup enjoyer

TUNES- first song that popped into my mind, no explanation.. maybe i miss beach bunny..

VALENTINE- in the real world she would treat you to a night in, with a few movies as well as your favorite snacks. probably gives you some flowers again.. in the digital world, the options are more limited... perhaps you two check out the carnival by the tent? the games there arent rigged.... probably...

WANT- they want someone who will actually listen to what shes trying to say and achieve, to be taken seriously. sure, a lot of the time in the pilot pomni is freaking out because shes coming to the realization that shes trapped, but i until we get more there isnt much i can say for her.. for now..

ZZZ- very sound sleeper, actually! tosses and turns every now and then but nothing too excessive, add that in with the cuddling segment and you guys would be pretty well rested after a night together, if you needed sleep in the digital world

What if...? The Super Soldier Serum doesn't work and Steve doesn't become Captain America?

There is a 'What if…?' inspired (?) game ("""immersive story""") on the apple vision now. I have not played it (who the hell would buy an apple vision lmao) but I watched some lets plays (on youtube) and while I don't think the full experience is…. all that great, it does look very nice, seems congruent (canon-compliant?) with everything else from the What if...? show, AND there is a Steve plotline featuring Bucky, Hydra, Red Guardian and kinda Red Skull that has some interesting plot points that I feel are interesting both as character studies or as AU starting points, so I'll summarise and provide some badly screenshoted pictures as evidence 🥲 I'll put this under the read more just in case soemoen here does have 3.5k for useless equipment and wants to experience the 'game' themselves.

Basic set up of the little interactive experience/game; You get recruited by the Watcher to collect all infinity stones for… reasons, and to do that, you get zapped around different multiverses. To collect the power stone (purple), you get put into Siberia, where you learn the following: During the second World War, the allied forces tried to create a supersoldier to put a stop to the Nazis/Hydra -- just as they did in our universe

Unforunately, though, shit goes wrong, the serum doesn't work, and the machines explode, so that Steve doesn't become the hunk of a man we know and love but… well, red skull.

Don't get me wrong, he's still a good guy, but, in his own words: 'The allied forces had an ideal vision of a super soldier -- and that wasn't me.'

They basically didnt use them as propaganda because he's uggo now, lmao. Without touring as a motivational piece doing little shows, though, he also never really becomes Captain America.

And without a force to put their bundled hopes in, the allied forces fall apart, and Hydra wins (!) without a super soldier to stop them.

The timeline gets more fuzzy now, it is not clear to me if some/most/all of the events are meant to be happening at around WW2 time, or much later. 'Siberia 1988' was thrown around, but I'm honestly not sure if it's meant to be the date, or just some reference. However, one character shows up significantly aged at the end of the show, so it actually might be 1988, implying that Hydra did rule most of Europe (?) for 30-40 years. Either way, Hydra does start creating Super Soldiers using the purple Infinity Stone, the Power Stone. Steve, either on a solo-mission or sent by Shield (unclear), goes to Siberia to retrieve the stone, that is guarded by Red Guardian. Red Guardian refuses to give the stone to Steve, as 'the powers of the stone make monsters out of men', using it is "nothing to be proud of" and 'you don't look like scientist. you don't sound like scientist… well, uh… no, you have skull for face' (literal quote, lmao, love it), so they fight.

Steve looses the fight, BUT --- sees Bucky in one of the tanks, before he has to flee the scene, as he is just about to get his ass whooped.

Wanting to save his friend, Steve now helps you to collect all the stones, yadda yadda, intergalactic multiverse bullshit happens, blabla, i dont care. Once you do collect all the other infinity stones with some other marvel characters, there is a bit of a twist, a big showdown, and then you have two choices: Either, you give each hero the stone that they were after, or you "do the right thing" and destroy the stones.

If you go for the good ending and destroy the stone, Steve goes back to his universe. Without the stone being there to create all these Super Soldiers for Hydra Steve and Red Guardian team up to free Winter Soldier Bucky.

and together they form a 'nation-less alliance of superheros' to fight some bad guys which the red guardian calls the… musketeers.

[[It is unclear to me where Steve got a shield, considering that he absolutely didn't have one up to this point. I also wonder if 'nation-less' means that Steve rejects being an American here? Red Guardian not being American makes sense, Bucky not easily being allowed to return also makes sense with all the war crimes he committed, but I do like the idea of Steve doing the right thing here leads him to be a lot less patriotic than in our canon.]]

However: If you do give Steve the infinity stone, he brings it to SHIELD ---- which seems to be represented by the aged What if? model of Howard Stark from the second season of the show, making me believe that it might in fact be playing in 1988 --- which does lead the US to win the war against HYDRA, but also "unleashes the super soldier threat back home" with there being hundreds of supersoldier chambers being shown.

I'm assuming the implication is that shield = hydra or maybe just super soldiers = bad no matter where they are? Interestingly, there is no more mention of Bucky in this ending, so I guess Steve was too busy acquiring world domination or something to still care about him. Considering that Howard is his old-model here, this does imply that Steve only retrieves the power stone by the late 80's. Not sure what he has been up to for the 40 years until then -- was he also somewhere frozen? Do red-skull-supersoldiers just not age? --- but it does imply that Hydra was (openly!) in control of at least most of Central Europe for this entire time period, before the US finally had a chance to beat them.

They are definitly using the same models/assets as in the TV show, so I do wonder if we will see some of these elements in the next season, too, considering they already announced an episode featuring Bucky and Red Guardian. Overall, while I feel like it doesn't really fulfill the criteria of a good interactive game/experience, I found this plot line quite interesting, and having the serum fail Steve, and he therefore nor being the Golden Boy and rejected by the allied forces, plus the potential 40-year long rule of Hydra are super intriguing to me. Bucky and Red Guardian also not being created by the serum, but by the powers of the infinity stone also seem like an interesting starting point for some musings, AUs and fics. I also wonder what Hydra had been doing with Bucky for those 40 years for Steve not having known/heard about him in the mean time. Ie. if someone writes fanfic based on this, please send it to me haha. Or TL; DR: It's basically a "What if Steve was ugly?" (in the words of @tinaxpow )

hi. this is my dnd character for toonkind dnd that i first made 7 years ago that ive recycled twice now because i wanted to finally play an ongoing campaign with him. for his third life, not only did i give him a design update, hes also has undergone a MAJOR overhaul in terms of personality and backstory tho i kept some bare basics the same (human ranger with urchin background who LOVES swords and knifes A LOT. and that he has an ambiguous age) the overhaul includes the isekai. and that hes a cunt now. but hes funnier now too lol.

so like if it isnt obvious the double isekai is meant to mirror the fact that i fucking played with him in 3 separate campaigns now. its part of him metatextually now lol. he was such a different guy tho. an EXTREMELY LOYAL guy. now hes significantly more selfish. and rude as hell. but hes not that to be mean or malicious. hes actually a pretty nice guy hes just extremely inconsiderate bc he prioritizes his own wellbeing most of the time. its how he had to grow up

he wouldve been a fucking gamer otaku fr. he got isekaied in the mid 2000s and as a kid he fucking LOVED watching dragonball on saturday mornings. if he got to be a teen on earth, he would eventually found the anime and gaming subcommunities online BUT ALAS. he grew up trying to catch fish with his bare hands. or at least he did until he gave up quick and ate weeds.

he wandered the woods trying his best to survive alone and in spite of everything trying to kill him (including the shit he ate...) he ended up in a nearby(?) town and things got a bit easier after that. because he could fucking steal to eat real food now. he stayed in the woods on the outskirts of town bc no one showed grace to a thief and just dropped in every so often to swipe shit. steadily he learned forage (through sheer trial and error)

he was highkey a menace. but eventually in his late teens, a traveling party gave him an idea to like fucking. get a job. as something. he managed to make it work as a ranger/guide for hire

he fucking loves booze. he absolutely underage drank. when he could steal it. and later pay for it. and also even though he could pay for things as an adult, he still steals shit if he thinks he can get away w it (he has an absurdly (or at least pretty) high sleight of hand stat)

before he got isekai'd a second time, went through a CATASTROPHIC DIVORCE with an elf woman who he met in an expedition party who became enamored with him after he saved her life. the uh. fallout happened bc blade didnt realize (and still hasnt realized) that hes kinda aro (fundamentally did not understand her romantic intentions and thought she was just a friend wanted to hang out w him a lot. those were dates.) and his ex didnt realize how onesided it was bc she was so love with him. geez.

also. he was from arizona. hes half white half mexican. but with all the time spent not speaking spanish in a different fucking world, it made any spanish speaking skills he had atrophy to hell. it happens and it was bound to happen bc he was so young and had like no reason or opportunity to practice.

also he chose his name. he hated his lame ass name so much he was like "wait. i dont have to use it anymore." but he was 13 fucking years old. anyways he thought blade sounded cool for a name. knifedad happened later when he got his first knife. he still had a bad naming sense. he was 14.

also although his ethics are kinda wack, whats important to note is that he ultimately doesnt want anyone to like. die. its like his policy. save people that he can while trying his best to not die himself

he also has a soft spot for kids. whether hed bc a good dad is debatable but like. i think hed be a nice one
