I think the most baffling thing about the Tulpar as a vessel to me is the fact that the ship really did only have a one way communication system.

I know it was cheap but even the most basic of vessels regarding major transport would have some way, shape or form for outside communication. Not only that but there was absolutely no form of innate emergency signal to show they may have been offline or in trouble despite clearly having a system to dock credits if they went off course. It's another factor that really shows that bad situations are made to get worse by design. One person who is required to relay all information to the crew and make all the choices without feedback. No way to update or call for help in case of a dire situation. No way to inform of inner personal conflicts and acquire procedures accordingly.

It really is like they are all in some sort of fucked up solitary confinement. They have their own world with strict roles that are meaningless in the end, as long as the cargo makes it, it doesn't matter what happens on that ship to the company. They don't want to hear anything and will come to conclusions on what happened based on how much pay they can withhold from the workers. Even what they do send is short, sterile and corporate to the extent it was likely written and sent out with a command by some random unmanned computer in an office.

There's something to be said about how unfair it is to force absolute power and control onto one person when you as an entity could do so much more to offload it but I've said it many times before so I won't again.

I love that idea, that Louis wanted Claudia to be both of theirs, for good and bad reasons. And the show letting it be ambiguous.

Fenwick's death was so satisfying (and totally deserved), and the image of him hanging with the "whites only" sign was so great--but Louis had to know who'd suffer the consequences when he put that sign up. I was thinking Louis no, hide the body!

Yeah, it's an interesting part of the story to talk about, especially given how the dynamic plays out between the three of them as a family unit. There's something especially interesting when you consider too that Lestat is both the 'birthing parent' and the one who experiences parental alienation and othering within the family being a) white, b) unable to telepathically communicate with them and c) called uncle instead of daddy in the way Louis is.

And yes! Fenwick's death scene is so satisfying, but in terms of Louis knowing who'd suffer the consequences - - mm, I think yeah, a part of him would, but at the same time, Louis is both arrogant and selfish so I don't think he'd really consider it. It goes back to this whole thing with the Byronic Hero trope where he exists outside of community, and while that's enforced with white NOLA society due to his race, he's also demonstrated a lack of deep engagement both with the Black community in his pre-vampiric life, and to the Vampire community in Paris.

Sure, he establishes The Azaelia and employs Black artists, but a lot of that is more about elevating his own social status and personal ambition than it is about elevating his community (to say nothing of how he uses the bodies of Black women to further his personal affairs). He's disconnected and he's self-serving, and so I do think those racist attacks and vandalism probably took him by surprise. He was single-mindedly out for revenge (another Byronic Hero trope) and while he was confronted by the attacks, he - in classic Louis fashion - did something for himself in taking Claudia, not for the community that was suffering the consequences of his actions.

i do think ruby screaming at blake is the best moment from vol 9 though... it is so exaggeratedly out of character for ruby not only to yell at somebody, but to yell at BLAKE (who she noticably has never had issues with, almost idolizes/looks up to as sort of this cool 'older girl' figure, AND not to mention the 'sisters girlfriend/wife/my sister-in-law' angle) that it immediately strikes not only the viewer but all the characters in-series that something is horribly off. One of rwby's best writing moments in years
