There is a strong lack of... so to speak, material history beyond a certain timeframe im my family which is probably explained by the fact that half my great-grandparents got tossed around by WW2, the Germans confiscated the home of another two and left behind bare walls — and in the final case, my great-auntie I. burned down the house some years after the war.

I think this is actually probably relatively common to people of certain regions, now that I think about it? I wonder why I've never seen any particular attention paid to the phenomenon — although, in some ways, having lived in Switzerland probably makes me specifically likely to notice it by contrast.
