Recently finished Ward Arc 3! Thoughts below:

Been a while since my first post on Ward, a couple of thoughts:

Arc 2

I like the slower pace so far (we’ll see how long that lasts i suppose). Nice to get little moments like Victoria going to interviews and visiting the kids at the hospital.

Zion really gave one last middle finger to humanity and said “You know what? Automated random horrific death triggers.” Jokes aside, the broken trigger scene was haunting, might draw something based on it in the future.

The therapy group superhero team premise is interesting. Nice to have a band of characters who have mental or emotional weaknesses but have each other’s backs! Now let’s see who they’re up agaisnt- oh, Tattletale? Oh no.

Not too many thoughts on the arc’s interlude, a lot of nice worldbuilding which is always welcome.

Arc 3

Capture the Flag was a fun premise for a friendly fight, and it delivered pretty well in showing off everyone’s powers, strengths and weaknesses. Also nice to see Victoria filling a more mentor/coach role and getting to flex the experience she’s gained with her power in a more positive light. Have some drawing ideas once I figure out how exactly I want to depict stuff like her aura.

Liking the new team so far, though still need to wrap my head around some of the finer details of the powers. Definitely gives me Jojo vibes in how the powers are more complex in the sequel/s.

I realized quickly that Kenzie’s powerset is a lot like my character from my friend’s Worm campaign (which I might write more about later on). Also a surveillance/drone Tinker, though with more focus on multiple drones and material efficiency than Kenzie’s big boxes of large scale holograms and photo-distortion.

Seems the group all have their own little secrets and/or problems they need to work through. Please Vic don’t let any of them near Tattletale they would practically be a freebie for her to take down.

Ok, no Birdcage as I learned from last post. But is there, like, a dead Earth with a one way portal to toss Carol into? Is Sleeper still occupying Earth Zayin? Maybe we should send Carol there on a free vacation I hear it’s a lovely time in… whatever the effect of his power is.

Evil Robot Grocery… ok how do you even fight that. I guess it’s an S-class Threat for a reason but like what option is there other than quarantining and bombarding the entire area they’ve spread to? Do EMPs work? Put Ghost Bakuda to good use and make that Arc 6 Bomb to knock them all out?

Silly rodent themed hero. Close enough, welcome back Mouse Protector Ratcatcher. Also gonna toss her on the list of “characters I should draw some time.”

Amy Dallon finally speaks, and looks like she’s making friends! Friends that are all (at least former) supervillains! That are encouraging her down a darker path! I can only see good things happening here. A little surprised we get her this early from an Interlude rather than from a main chapter, though I suppose it does make sense to flesh her out more now rather than waiting until Victoria directly sees her again in whatever state she’s in by that point (probably a bad one).

That’s all the Ward thoughts I could think of at the moment. Will be reading more, next update hopefully won’t take 2 months again (but probably will)

Something funny I've noticed while playing in the Lancer game @xeansicemane is running is that I am the odd-man (woman?) out in our merry little band of misfits. I am the only one in the SRT without an interesting backstory and/or potentially mission threatening Dark Secret.

We have:

- Fern Tiramisu, the fancy rat who has a job on Hell's Gate in a record store that sells more drugs than records. Except this is merely their cover story, as they are really an operative working for the Union Intelligence Bureau, sent to Calliope on a Top Secret Spy Mission. They've also discovered that parts of their memory have been wiped - by them - and are now trying to recover those memories and figure out why they'd do that to themselves in the first place.

- Cassilda Halloway, the very large, very Stronk, practically indestructible crocodile lady who is a champion in Calliope's fighting scene. Her first, last, and favorite solution for any and all problems is "Imma punch it REAL hard." She's hiding out in the system specifically to get away from her family, a bunch of wealthy and influential fucks back in the Karrakin Trade Baronies. Complicating things is that her brother is also here, for reasons unrelated, and has fallen in with the Faith of the One Plumed in Golden Flame, the local Apocalypse Cult.

- Pearce Collartug, a hyena hacker enby who is practically a JoJo character. They pilot a giant snake-shaped Balor, spending most of every fight covering everything that gets close (and lots more besides) in corrosive nanite swarms. In the last session, we all found out that they also used to be a member of The Circuit, a renegade HORUS cell pirate ring run by Triple Point, a Legion Fork NHP (Fern: "It's a fucking WHAT?!") The Illegal Shape has currently escaped its box and is now doing lots of spooky horror movie shenanigans inside a big asteroid.

- Agarin Raankell, a genetically modified supersoldier dragon man hailing from Clan Thunder Skink, and if you think that sounds a little like the Clans from Battletech: you are absolutely correct. Apparently where he came from, someone generations ago found a Battletech source book about the Clans and went "Hey, y'know what would be awesome?" Probably the most stable and level-headed member of the entire SRT, which is hilarious if you know anything about the Clans, but it does make him the de-facto squad leader in most situations involving direct combat. Also, he's psychically bonded with all of us. Because of Reasons.

And then you have my character.

- Scarlet. She's an alcoholic fuck-up.

Personally, I'm fine with it. My design doc for her boiled down to "What if me, but Girl, and also mech pilot?" She's a grunt. A humble footsoldier. Currently License Level 2, and still piloting her Everest. If this were Battletech, she'd probably drive a Hunchback. She's here to fight and get drunk, because she's no good at anything else.

I just think its hysterical that I'm the only one here not doing A Bit.

What music do you think all of the Mikaelsons plus Hayley and Cami would listen to?

Ok, this was actually so hard. I tried to do both time period accurate but also today what they would listen to.

Elijah

Elijah would be super pretentious with it and pretend he only has a Spotify account to listen to classical music in the car, because of course live or vinyl is the only way music should be consumed. But we all know he was in his room listening to some Lana, Adele, Dean Lewis, etc. My boy likes to listen to music that makes him feel his sadness. He also really just appreciates well produced music so I think he would really enjoy Billie and Finneas. I also think he would really have liked music in the late 1900s. He would have really enjoyed The Beatles, Billy Joel, Queen, Journey, etc.

Elijah would be obsessed with Hozier. The lyrics, the storytelling, the music, the history. He would learn all of the songs on piano. He would also really like David Kushner and Dermot Kennedy.

No memories Elijah liked to dance and I can just see him really enjoying Conan Gray. He gets to dance and cry all at the same time. But come on, Family Line is his song.

Hayley

I've seen people say Hayley would love Taylor Swift, but she was far too much of a "pick me" for that. She would have been listening to more rock or angry music. The early 2010s were peak emo music. My girl would have been listening to My Chemical Romance, The All-American Rejects, Green Day, Foo Fighters, etc. But she would pretend they were too mainstream for her. She would tell people she only listens to her version of the classics: Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.

As she got older, it would be less angsty, but still emotional. Some Halsey, Lorde, Alessia Cara. Hope would get her to listen to Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter, she would enjoy it but tell Hope she needs to listen to the classic. They would both really enjoy listening to Heart, Pat Benatar, and Janet Jackson together.

Klaus

I honestly can't picture Klaus listening to music unless he is painting. So it just depended on his mood and his painting. I could definitely see him painting to Lana and Christina Perri, maybe even some James Arthur. I could see him getting high, listening to Bob Marley or Pink Floyd and painting. He would have enjoyed classic rock.

Hope would try to get him into pop music but he would only listen to the ones he didn't consider basic. He would vibe with Noah Kahan and Phoebe Bridgers.

Cami

Cami was definitely a party girl in Undergrad. She took her classes seriously but she knew how to let loose on the weekends. She was an OG listener to Beyoncé, Rihanna, Charli xcx, etc. Cami would also really love women empowerment music. She would love JoJo (not Siwa, the original), Julia Michaels, Kesha, Lady Gaga.

We just know she would love Because I Liked a Boy since she literally lived it.

She would have loved Paris Paloma if she had lived long enough.

Rebekah

I'm struggling with Rebekah a little bit. But I think she would listen to more soft pop music. Like Julia Michaels, Rachel Chinouriri, Lewis Capaldi, Mariah Cary (her older music), etc. But Rebekah would eat up boy bands too. She would definitely have fan girl'ed for the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC had she not bee daggered during their prime. She would enjoy Harry Styles and Jess McCartney.

She would have been so mad at Klaus for keeping her daggered during the 90s girl bands. She would have been obsessed with Spice Girls and Destiny's Child.

Freya

I see Freya being a country pop girl. She would have been exposed to such little music each time she was awaken. But I think she would have really liked Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, Dolly Parton, Kacey Musgraves, etc. She would be obsessed with Shania Twain. She would always stand up and dance to Man I feel like a Woman every time it came, loving living in a time where she could be a woman and free.

But she also liked to dance and have fun. She would have loved Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Sean Paul, Beyonce, etc. Beyonce's Cowboy Carter would be on repeat. But she would be willing to listen to anything. Hope would constantly be showing her new music.

She would love Chappell Roan, Renee Rapp, Kehlani, Fletcher, Muna, Hayley Kiyoko, Towa Bird, etc. Any sapphic artist.

Kol

All I know about Kol is that he doesn't like Icelandic folk music. He would like slow music to dance to and then just whatever Davina liked. Davina would be introducing him to Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, etc., and whatever club music Josh was listening to.

Also, just Kol listening to Rude by MAGIC! on repeat because we know Marcel never warmed up to him.

If they all had lived, Josh, Cami, Freya, Davina, and Kol would have been obsessed with Brat.

Finn

I don't know if Finn ever lived long enough to enjoy music. I think music would honestly be so overwhelming to him. He went from music being a harp and lute to the insane production we have today. I think just starting him off listening to Chopin or Mozart before throwing him into Ariana Grande would be wise. This man wouldn't even know what a piano is. I think he would eventually enjoy more soul or jazz music. Like Leon Bridges, Etta James, Frank Ocean. Especially being in New Orleans. He would like to go to jazz bars and just discover new artists.

Hope

Hope would get all of these people listening to modern music. She would be dragging them to go see Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, etc. And I just know her and Freya would go see Chappell.

What do you all think? This is really interesting.

wake up

synopsis: you’ve recently awakened a power after being injured. around the same time your husband begins filing for divorce. your only company is your daughter jolyne and the monster keeping you up at night 

tw: divorce mentions, relationship strife, angst, hurt, comfort, swearing, implied afab reader (cause jolyne is you and jotaro’s kid)

Your fingers gently take the hair clips out of Jolyne’s hair. She wanted to wear butterfly hair clips with her fishtail braid, so you happily put them in. Now that she’s back from elementary school her hair is a bit messy from playing, loose strands and broken butterfly clips on her head. 

“Did you have a good day, Jojo?” She begins to ramble about her day with a smile, her outspoken nature definitely coming more from you than Jotaro. Jolyne tells you about how she won every dodgeball game in gym class and how everyone was so impressed. “That’s amazing dear.” You say while beginning to comb out her hair, as all the clips and elastic bands are out. “Your hair is getting really long.” You comment as it falls to her mid back, and she just shrugs. 

“I kinda want a haircut.” A hum of acknowledgement accompanies Jolyne’s statement. 

“I wouldn’t be opposed. It’ll always grow back if you want it longer again.” Jolyne nods with a bounce, making you halt your brushing so she doesn’t get her hair tugged on. “Do you have any homework tonight?” 

“Just a bit! I’ll do it once you put my hair up,” she says it with a pout and you can hear it in her tone. She’s such a precious child, you think as you finish combing her hair and pin it into a loose bun. 

“Dinner will be ready for you when you’re done dear. Let me know if you need any help.” Jolyne nods with a smile and runs upstairs to her room. You watch as she races to her room, the door shutting softly behind her. Your heart stings as you head to the kitchen to begin dinner. Jotaro has been coming home long after you’ve eaten with Jolyne for the past few days. 

Shaking your head as if that’ll shake these thoughts from your mind, you look in the cupboards for your recipe book. As you rummage in the back of the shelf you see an ornate brooch in the shape of a beetle. Curious, you pick it up. It feels like a knife tears right through your palm and you drop it with a scream. Jolyne comes racing down from her room, stopping at the end of the stairs when you tell her to hastily. 

“I’m okay Jojo! Just scratched myself, you should get started on that homework.” You offer her a smile, gritting your teeth behind closed lips. Her eyebrows push together but she nods, heading back up to her room. Once the doors closed you let out a groan, watching as blood dripped down your hand and onto your tile floor. “I need to clean this up,” You calmly state while wiping the blood from your palm onto your apron you put on since entering the kitchen. 

“I’m sure this brooch is Jotaro’s, I’ll put it on his desk too.” You mutter while exiting the kitchen. In the adjacent room you find his work study and you place the brooch in a drawer full of various nick-nacks. The tchotchke was fairly cute, but you can’t help but wonder why he had it. 

Turning around to clean the kitchen, you see a looming figure. Its body has [color] accents with gold and beige, skin adorned with scales resembling a pangolin. You fall back, anxious of getting too close to this stranger. It has a long tail that’s curling into itself, angular eyes and an animalistic snout. 

“Who-what are you?” Scrambling to your feet, you watch the strange creature stare at you with those beady eyes. In the pupils you can see stars and in the iris you see your shocked expression staring back at you. You watch the monster with wide eyes, terrified that when you blink you’ll be a goner. It stares back with absent vigor, with hazy eyes like it has cataracts. “Leave me alone…” You whisper in a silent plea. You can’t let anything happen to Jolyne. 

“I’m Wake Up.” It’s voice is scratchy like you imagine those scales to be. “I’m your stand. I’ve been born from your soul’s desires.” You shake your head, entirely disbelieving this entire situation. “You’re not imagining this.” 

You just wish for this to end. Your breathing begins to shake, pupils shaking as anxiety takes a hold of you. The throbbing in your hand begins to burn when the creature places its hand on yours. It has long nails just like a rodent. The radiating pain begins to calm upon touching the scales covering it’s body. 

“This is your power. I can heal with these scales and I can harden my body. Like a pangolin my tongue is long, and my claws are nigh indestructible. If you take off these scales they’ll act like a tracking device.” You stare at the creature – you mean your stand – still shell-shocked. “I’m here to help. Not hurt.” Eventually you nod, allowing this being into your life. Still you’re scared and worried for yourself and Jolyne, but you can’t do anything at the moment. Suddenly it disappears, the creature retracting into a scaly ball before vanishing from your sights. Your breath hitches, still shaken up over the ordeal. 

You head to the kitchen with a towel anyway, quickly wiping the blood from the floor and beginning dinner. 

☆☆☆ ☆☆☆ ☆☆☆

Another night where Jolyne and you are eating dinner together. She picks at her food, upset that her father isn’t there. You’re upset too, eyebrows pushed together as you stir the ice cubes in your water. Jolyne isn’t chatty like she normally is, staring blankly at the food on her plate as she plays with it. Normally you’ll tell her to be careful to not make a mess but words are logged in your throat and no matter how much water you drink it won’t move. 

Jolyne goes to bed the earliest she has in a long time that night. It’s now nine pm and you’re laying in bed, your pangolin-esque stand sitting at the end of your shared bed with Jotaro. Jolyne was asleep last you checked on her, so you invited the mystery to appear again. 

“Do I control when you appear?” 

“Mostly,” Wake Up responds while wiggling its scaly tail. “Sometimes I won’t listen.” 

Your eyebrows react to that by lowering. “What do you mean by-” 

“Like now!” The creature vanishes as the bedroom door opens. Jotaro enters with his usual serious expression, your hands are against the sheets with a look that reads you’re not happy about your stand’s audacity. 

“Jotaro.” You greet him with a bittersweet smile, heart aching at his absence but finally feeling minimal relief at his awaited appearance. “Was work alri-” 

He cuts you off immediately by removing his top to change into pajamas along with his blunt words. “We should get a divorce.” 

Your heart sinks into your stomach. If you weren’t sitting in bed you worry the weight of what he just said would cause it to fall right through you. Like a deer in the headlights you stare at him, mind entirely frazzled by his proposition. 

“I’ve gotten all the papers ready. I need your approval.” 

Is this why he was home late every night? When you thought he was working late to make sure Jolyne had everything she could ever want and you could indulge in your hobbies – he was really just going behind your back to remove you from his life? 

Your breathing becomes erratic as you stare at the man you vowed to love all your life. His effigy is a painful reminder that you’ve honored that – through all the times he's been short with you, he’s yelled, he’s acted on whatever he needed for himself – but he hasn’t. When he said “I do” all those years ago he was lying. Your face is growing hot in anger and sorrow, tears soothing the burning of your face. Cupping your face with your hands, you try to hide all the emotions overflowing. It’s obvious despite your shaking hands hiding your tear stained face because of your loud hiccups. 

The mattress sinks a little as Jotaro gets into bed with you to be met with you turning away. You can’t see how his eyes narrow in his own sadness. You don’t know why he’s doing this, or how much he still loves you. As he watches you sob his own heart is breaking, especially with how you refuse his comfort. He wishes he could stay with you, that he could stay with Jolyne, but your safety has always been his priority. 

“I’m so sorry.” Jotaro says empathetically while your body shakes. 

“Sorry you don’t love me anymore.” You said it so quietly, your sobs and hiccups interrupting the words, but Jotaro hears it and wants this to have never happened.

☆☆☆ ☆☆☆ ☆☆☆

The divorce is underway and you can’t sleep. Jotaro comes home even later than before which fills your mind with rage and resentment. Is he actually working or is he getting the things you couldn’t give him? Is he overworking himself like you always thought or is he getting stress relief from someone in the way you thought he only got from you? 

Jolyne notices how your gentle and nurturing nature has changed. Instead of seeing the glass half full you see it empty. As you brush her hair you aren’t humming, instead you’re staring off into space and stroking and stroking and stroking it until Jolyne asks if you’re okay. 

Your dinners are less coordinated. The dishes aren’t done as you cook, now they gather at the edge of the sink and stay in the dishwasher until noon. The apples in her lunch aren’t cut to look like bunnies, the napkins don’t have sweet notes on them, and there’s no cute animal forks for her to eat her vegetables with. 

“You’re worrying Jolyne.” Wake Up ridicules while you stare into the vacant spot besides you. It’s so cold without your furnace of a husband beside you. “I know shit’s rough but Jolyne deserves a present parent. And Jotaro isn’t present for either of you.” You know their right but you still feel anger in your soul. Naturally, Wake Up knows that. “You can’t make him love you again.” 

“I know that!” You snap despite your best attempts to keep it inside. Tears flow down your face again, face heating up as you recall what Jotaro had said nights ago. “I know that,” You reiterate in a broken voice. You’re so tired of sobbing – so tired of being strong. But you know Wake Up is right. Jolyne needs you to be strong for her. 

The next morning Jolyne wakes up to the smell of pancakes. She races down the steps, seeing you humming while flipping the fluffy breakfast. There’s cut strawberries and bananas in a dish, whipped cream and syrup on the counter too. Three plates are set up which fills Jolyne with hope that her dad did come home last night. It fills you with hope too despite knowing he never came to bed. It’s false hope but it’s what you feel you need. Once the pancakes are all done you serve her, watching as she happily gets fruit and syrup to eat them with. 

“Thank you!” Jolyne has a big smile, her messy hair all over the place since you didn’t pin it up for her. 

“Of course Jojo.” You smile back while grabbing the comb, elastics, and hairclips. “Once you’re done eating I’ll help tidy up your hair.” 

☆☆☆ ☆☆☆ ☆☆☆

Waiting for the divorce to finally happen may be breaking you more than the initial conversation. It’s like living a double life, putting on a happy front for Jolyne while falling into a deep spiral every time you’re alone with the lights off. 

Tonight’s like any other as your mind races and Wake Up witnesses it while curled up into themself. Only this night the door opens, light being introduced from a distant world. You’re too preoccupied in your head to recall your stand, Jotaro’s subtly shocked expression going unnoticed by your closed eyes. 

“[Name], get back!” That voice you know better than your own shouts startled. “This must be an enemy stand!” A purple entity emerges from behind him as your stand uncoils itself. 

“No, it’s my stand.” You say with narrowed eyes. Jotaro stares at you in shock and recalls his own stand. 

“When did this happen?” 

“A week ago. I picked up the brooch you had in my recipe cupboard and it pierced me.” You extend your arm, showing him the scar along the lines of your palm. “You knew that brooch did this to people? Why did you even have it?” You stare at his blank expression and shake your head. “It’s like I don’t even know you. Like there’s this entirely different world you live in and you can’t give me access. I thought we loved each other, I thought we trusted each other.” You shake your head again before your voice can get louder. “But I realize I’m wrong about both.” 

You’re met with silence as Jotaro thinks of what to say. If he should tell you that he loves you, that he just wants to be safe, that he’s never been happy away from you? 

“I do love you-” 

“Bullshit!” You’re so upset about the whole situation that you cut him off. “Why would you want a divorce then? Am I not good enough? I’ve only ever tried my hardest! What else could I do? I fucking love you, and-and you don’t love me,” You wish you’d stop talking with how rude you’re being, but all the anger held inside of you is coming out in full. “What did I do wrong?” 

“I want to keep you and Jolyne safe. These abilities we have cause people to target us. I can’t let anything happen to you or Jolyne. I love you both too much for that to happen.” Jotaro comes closer to your figure on the bed, taking you in his arms. You think about thrashing against him, but it’s been so long without his touch and you melt completely into his body. “I love you. I love you so much.” Jotaro feels ready to cry with how much he’s hurt you in his attempts to put you out of harm. “You and Jolyne matter most to me.” 

“I have a stand now,” You begin while wrapping your arms around his neck. Holding onto him tightly, you inhale his cologne. The scent of him is nearly gone from the sheets. “I can protect myself and Jolyne. You don’t need to do this.” 

Jotaro is silent for a moment, thinking about your point. He doesn’t want to be naive in thinking that, but you may be right that your stand is enough to combat the dangerous nature of being unique. 

“I trust you [Name].” Jotaro holds you tightly, relieved himself to have you in his arms. “I’ll cancel the divorce. I need you in my life.” 

“I need you too.”

some interesting things to consider with chapter 13

Spoilers below and I might add more to the list soon.

Dragona's mispronounced name is a play-on Dragona's name and the word for trash. In Kanji, the first part of Dragona's name can be reinterpreted as JoJo (do-ra) and the term used for trash (gomi) is often used as an insult to call someone useless, shit, worthless, etc. So, Dragona is basically called "JoJo trash/useless JoJo" under the guise of mispronunciation. If we were to translate this into English, Dragona would be miscalled "Crap-ona" since Ds can be misread as Cs and Gs as Ps.

A popular drama known as "The Glory" became popular overseas around 2022 due to its story about a girl severely bullied by rich students ultimately gaining revenge. It was praised for the rawness of the bullying portrayed and it was based on a real life situation in 2006 where the victim of bullying experienced what was portrayed in the drama. What was not portrayed (I think) was the experience of the real life victim having their chest mutilated to the point of scarring.

Dragona mentioning about not wanting to live due to the circumstances reference Bruno echoing similar sentiments to Giorno before passing away. Both felt like they have nothing left to live until the Joestar gave them hope due to their actions.

Jodio's thoughts on why things happen reference Pucci having similar sentiments after Perla's death-- which leads him to reunite with DIO. While Pucci wonders why the knowledge he was forced to take in hurt him, Jodio wonders why the knowledge he was denied to have hurt him instead. We see how his quality of being methodical also has a flaw that explains him mentioning in chapter 2 how the "unfairness" of the world drives him mad.

To be blamed for the insurance payout and Barbara Ann being mostly a stay-at-home-mom means Jodio and Dagona's father must have been very high ranked to end up in such a situation while serving as a breadwinner of the family before his abandonment. Jodio and Dragona's father leaving is similar to Jotaro abandoning Jolyne for their safety. Both had to leave their children behind because otherwise their children will be harmed.

Meryl Mei's detail about school tuition is interesting due to McKinley High being a public school and initially thought to be an error. Remembering how Barbara Ann mentioned Jodio's academic performance earlier, she could have put him in a private school intended to bring his performance up, and that's why Barbara Ann mentioned school tuition. Howler references King Crimson song "The Howler", which comes from an album trilogy (Discipline, Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair) that came out after the band's hiatus and known for introducing a brand new sound. Discipline features the song "Matte Kudasai", Beat has "The Howler", and Three of a Perfect Pair is yet to be referenced. There's a song in Beat called "Requiem", which caused the group to break up due to creative differences but later reconcile.

Three of a Perfect Pair has exactly 9 tracks with one side representing the New Wave style that Beat introduced and the other side representing the Industrial style that Discipline introduced. I got a whole post made about the albums here.

As a infrastructure group worth 50 billion dollars, they may have great influence over the community similar to that of Meryl Mei and branches that hire people for contract and whatnot. Is it possible that Usagi's father used to work for them? Is it possible that Jodio's father has some sort of connection to the insurance payout that Usagi's family currently live off?

Howler could be a play-on the Hawaiian world Haole, which is used to describe something not native to Hawaii, particularly foreigners. There are a few irl construction/infrastructure companies called Howler that are notably not from Hawaii. Given rich corporations' histories with exploiting resources such as land, Howler could be a company with malicious intentions towards Hawaii's lands.

The Japanese term used for "absurdity" can also be translated to "illogical", "nonsensical", and interestingly "unjust". When we see the characters mentioning absurdity, they could just not only be saying things don't make sense but things aren't fair or equal. It makes a callback to Chapter 2 more interesting.

ABSUЯD is a song written by Guns N Roses from their album Chinese Democracy, which was known to take a long time to come out and a rather very unpopular album due to how different it sounded from Guns N Roses' previous music.

�� i don’t know how to feel about this one… it’s not horrendous but dare i say he didn’t go far enough. i’m an ARMY so i can see j-hope wearing this but perhaps the reason why is would work is because he’d add like a white bucket hat, some sunglasses, and some colorful jewelry to fully commit to the maximalist style. also phil doesn’t really suit the baggy style imo. correct me if im wrong.

-Adam was living with his dad and mom until he was 12. His mother left his father for another man and never came back. It was a pretty hard time for him but he wasn't really sad, just really angry. He changed school one time became they moved into another part of the city when he was 13. He was more an outcast because of his blue hair and the way he was so of course be got bullied which didn't botherd him to much even tho he has mental problems since he was younger and they just got more and worse over time.

-Loved soccer and drawing since he was younger and to that day still draws. When they moved he got into a soccer team and they got along pretty well. At the age of 14 he had his last game. Adam was a keeper and was pretty good at it. He was holding almost everything. His team won the game. It wasn't anything special just a simple game against another team. But one of the members of the other team weren't so happy about it. Turned out this kid was known for aggression problems and so he turned to Adam and yelled at him at first. It was probably a coincidence that he picked Adam . He got closer to him and without thinking he kicked Adam in the kneecap out of anger which made him fall to the ground. Long story short he kicked Adam in such a weird and bad place that his kneecaps were damaged so he couldn't walk properly for a few months and even tho he can walk normally now he can't play soccer or much other sport anymore. This is why they moved to Grünwald and Adam acts like he doesn't know anything about soccer or played it. He thinks its better than explaining why he doesn't play anymore ect.

-At first the bunch thought the new kid was one of the Siegers because of his style but after JoJo saw Adam with a pigeon he found and talked to him he found out he was pretty cool. So from that on JoJo forced Adam to come to there training a few times or hang out with them because as JoJo means he needs to go out more and be more social.

-2 years after the kneecap incident he tries to go back to soccer even tho it's hard but he tries. Also sometimes asks Willi for advice

-he gets along with the bunch pretty well as well as Willi but sometimes he really wants to kick Leon's ass because this little shit can be annoying.

THE MORNING AFTER: ONLY FRIENDS, EPISODE 8 ("TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR AND CRY") EDITION

Oh my gosh, I am shaking my head and just laughing. I have no idea where to start writing this, but it's gonna be damn fun to pick this episode apart.

Because of the clues that Jojo Tichakorn (below) and Ninew Pinya dropped before and during the episode's airing yesterday, my mind was totally on Freddie and Queen. I captured the tweet below and couldn't help but think of lyrics.

And the episode was titled "Save Me"!

Before I go on, I have a little personal note. During my watch of MAME's TharnType, I talked a bit about the bigotry against the queer community that I grew up with in my Indian family. During my childhood, Freddie Mercury was -- everything. He was everything to me. A part-Indian man who blasted past any obstacles that could have held him back to become a superstar, while leveraging unbelievable talent. My dad often wanted to snap my Queen CDs in half to keep Freddie out of our house. Up until I went to college, when a new world of music awaited me, Queen was MY BAND. I'll never forget watching his memorial concert on television in 1992, watching Axl Rose destroy "We Will Rock You," and subsequently watching Axl host a Queen documentary on MTV that got repeated for years and years. This shit was formative to my childhood, and I'm gonna guess, to Jojo's and Ninew's childhoods as well. We be old bags in here.

I'll get back to Freddie in a few minutes. but besides all of the Queen themes (quick note: the dude that Sand was about to make out with was wearing the same costume that Ninew caught in his IG stories, as Freddie sang "Love of My Life"), oh my fucking god, did this episode ever touch upon ephemerality, highs and lows, change, and a resistance to change that people have unto others.

Top and Cheum -- especially Top -- were clutching their pearrrrrllllsss at Mew's changes.

Top and Cheum notice that Mew's trying on a new suit. And Mew admits it! He says to Ray in the bookstore -- after the most BRILLIANT call-out to a BL trope if I ever saw one, the CRACKING of the romantic memories montage, which, omg, are we EVER seeing in Dangerous Romance, like three times a bleeping episode, LMAO -- "I'm bored with myself."

I love -- I hate it, but I love that this episode calls it out -- I love that Top and Cheum are calling this behavior out as if it were a bad thing.

Is it?

.... is it not okay for university students to take a bump of coke if they're curious about it? Barack Obama did it -- and Obama admitted it, AND wrote about it, AND became president, twice. Judge him, I dare ya.

On another side, Nick susses out Boston, and wants to check in with him. Boston wants Nick to go bye-bye. Nick tries a guilt pull. And Boston ain't having it.

Fuck. (Side note, Boston was my man this episode.)

I'm shaking my head in wonder for Mew and Boston to be addressing Top, Cheum, and Nick in this way. We've established (here and here, cc @ranchthoughts and others) that the kind of toxicity that this OF group of friends exhibits is just -- common, and pedestrian, and awful to think about existing, but in part, it's so awful for us to be thinking about it, because actually, it's ever-present in our lives, and so many of us survive dealing with other people on a daily basis by using means by which to ignore or avoid that toxicity, like our addictions to our phones, or addictions to other vices, like sex and drugs -- which takes us right back to Only Friends.

The dynamic I saw happening in this episode was like vultures (the friends) circling their prey (their friends), but instead of the friends eating their friends -- what some of the friends are doing is trying to correct the behavior of their other friends. Top and Cheum want Mew to... go back to being the old Mew, maybe. Nick wants Boston to know -- morally, I think you're a bad person. And Boston says, I paraphrase, "see. if. I. fucking. care." and literally creates the NeoTitle ship before our eyes, lmao, all while walking silently and ignoringly away from Nick.

Top, to Mew, says, "Are you sure?" Are you sure you want to be like this now, Mew? Cheum shares with Top her concern about Mew's changes, and literally teams up with Top to bring Top back to Mew to, what, straighten Mew out?

Last time I checked, Mew's a big boy. Mew's made his decisions to be with Ray, to drink with Ray, to snort coke with Ray. Are those behaviors questionable? Sure. Are they normal behaviors for a university student who is bored with himself, and wants to try something new? 100%.

I have written before, in my review of Theory of Love, that while behavioral change can oftentimes be massively difficult, there's another side to change that needs to be considered. When one person changes -- there are many others within that person's sphere that do not want that specific person TO change. If one individual changes, within a worldview of a group -- that changes a group dynamic. People like Top and Cheum are unsettled that Mew and Ray are dating, and that Mew's getting wasted and high. Are they rightfully concerned for Mew's health? For sure. But what about Mew's agency and happiness? Are the friends understanding that this is actually Mew's choice to do these things, regardless of how the friends judge his specific actions?

The fact that Top and Cheum are questioning Mew's agency, to me, is a ROOT, a FOUNDATION of the awful toxicity of this friend group, BESIDES the general drunkenness of the group, and Ray's particularly contradictory and dangerous behavior. THERE IS NO TRUST IN THIS GROUP.

Top and Cheum do not TRUST Mew -- an adult young man!!!! -- to make his own decisions. Cheum doesn't trust Boston with her little bro (oh, woops on that, big sis). Almost no one trusts Ray, although I'm not sure about Mew on that. Boston doesn't trust Nick. The list goes on.

Without trust, without a foundation of love and respect, without an acknowledgement that individuals within a group have agency to live their lives independently -- what you get in a group dynamic is UTTER mush, just a bucket of vomit like what we're seeing here in Only Friends. I am OBSESSED that Jojo and team are picking this apart SURGICALLY, and asking US to question OUR, the viewers', judgement of all of this. These friends are contradictory as fuck. Boston was SO right to ask Nick: "who are you to judge?" Nick acted as filthily as Boston in violating Boston's privacy and rights -- TWICE, bros, TWICE.

And Top.... @lurkingshan said it the best yesterday when she made sure the girlies knew that what Top was doing TO (NOT FOR, TO) Mew at the end of the episode was not consensual. Welp. Tie up Mew's agency with a bow and throw it out into the fucking dumpster, Top.

I haven't touched as much on the Sand/Ray dynamic in this post, but of characters that are acting at least consistently to their... what, their moral judgements or ethical structures, at least Sand, Ray, and Boston remain consistent in my eyes. Anyone who was surprised at Ray's behavior in this episode -- it was bad and icky, and the episode laid it on thick, but I found his behavior to be expectedly toxic.

This was a two-steps-forward-and-one-step-back episode for Sand, as I see it, as he stepped in to try to keep Ray from going to jail (and how interesting was it that it was Top who ended up sealing that deal). One other note about Sand: the show HAS to be making fun of First's inability to sing, right? That guitar practice in 2/4, oof. And to have Sand dress up as Freddie, one of the most magnificent singers in rock -- ironic. We know that Sand doesn't aspire to be a singer; he just wants to go to festivals, and... that's the right decision, my dude.

Anyway. To bring this back to Freddie and Queen. Talk about shapeshifting. In his 20s in the 1970s, Freddie Mercury started out with long hair and flowing, robe-y costumes. As the 1980s progressed, he took on an identity of a mustachioed, slightly muscular man -- very, very closeted, but clearly gay to anyone who caught the signal.

The dude that Sand was about to make out with at the party? He made a reference to Mary Austin, Freddie's longtime companion and best friend. They were lovers for a short period, before Freddie came out to her. And they remained friends all of the rest of his life. While Freddie died with a longtime lover by his side in Jim Hutton, Mary was always present and devoted to Freddie. Mary's presence often caused consternation with Freddie's lovers, especially after his death, what with inheritance controversies. But no one ever questioned Mary's loyalty, and her commitment to keeping Freddie's identity secret and safe.

Freddie and Mary's friendship was in part a protective arrangement for his life in the closet. He only revealed he had AIDS the day before he died. But Freddie claimed the friendship, claimed agency to it, and wanted it in his life. The friendship was steady, and never wavering.

Quite the opposite of the devotions, or lack thereof, in this group. These young folks are demonstrating NORMAL resistance to watching each other change. But while that resistance is normal... it doesn't make it all the less toxic. I'm afraid that as of right now, I read that all of these friends want to sell each other out for the sake of their own selfish desires, and for the benefit of their own worldviews alone.

Hey! I haven’t been on tumblr for probably over a decade at this point, so this is my first post introducing myself to get back into it!

My name is Bea! I’m Canadian, 25f, Pagan, bi and used to be a full time artist (polymer clay, jewelry, painting, drawing, etc). I also love Buffy, The Boys, and have been enjoying Invincible and most recently The Bear! I love video games and I’m a huge Nintendo nerd - Twilight Princess is my favourite game of all time and I love LoZ and animal crossing! Also love stuff like Stardew Valley and casual horror games. Baldurs Gate 3 and DND stuff are super awesome too. As far as music goes, I’d say I’m an alt/punk rock gal but here are my favourite bands: MCR, Nirvana, Sublime, Gorillaz, One-Eyed Doll, Evanescence. I do also indulge in late 90’s/2000’s pop!

i personally view alt as more than just subcultures and as actual faiths/ways of living for myself. it’s not all just aesthetic for me. the way we express ourselves with spiked bracelets and edgy haircuts or how we live by the lyrics of our fav music is what makes alt culture for me. nothing brightens my day more when i see alt peeps just being themselves.

i’m genderfluid⚥ and bi. i luv dressing androgynously and expressing both the beauty of femininity and masculinity. both of the names gj and violet r representative of both my masc and fem sides. and i’d like to think that gj and violet r separate souls with their own identities that i switch between, but can also embody both of them at the same time.

i hav a few mental afflictions but the main one that affects me the most is BPD which has a huge impact on my life and me as a person. i like seeing other posts on tumblr related to mental health so i’d like to treat this blog as a place where people can feel safe when it comes to talking about stuff like dat. we all could use a hand here and there 🫂.

Bethany's Bizarre Miraculous Rewrite: Basics

Everyone's rewriting Miraculous, Beth. What makes yours so special? What do you bring to the table? Let me answer that:

My purpose and goal with this rewrite is primarily to create my ideal version of Miraculous. I'd say if it were a real show, it would be a serialized action show for older kids, tweens, and teens. Steven Universe and Gravity Falls come to mind for similar shows. So you know. There'll be some horror. There'll be some sad stuff. Also it'd be animated in a 2D animeesque style akin to the PV since this is my ideal Miraculous where all I have to do is look at the executives funny and they start bending to my demands.

The most notable change compared to canon Miraculous is the lack of Miraculous aside from the Ladybug, Black Cat, and Mouse, except the latter is more like convergent evolution and lacks a Kwami. I felt like the Miraculous system was rather clunky and lacked a good strong theme between the abstract concepts represented and the animals each Kwami was. The Chinese Zodiac 12 was a little bit better since there was at least a core theme but in general it felt more like the concepts were made to be unique and fit to certain characters instead of having any strong themes. So instead I decided to keep the powers themed around certain characters, but have the powers come from various sources (something I think in canon Miraculous is also underutilized, considering the United Heroes and Quantic Kids era, among other things.) Said sources include the spirits of an ancient species of sapient bugs, characters being half-human and half-something else, actual magic whether it be from gods or elsewhere, and all sorts of stuff Master Fu keeps in his Miracle Box aside from the Miraculous.

The plot itself starts off like canon Miraculous but with some minor changes to string in aspects from season 5 far earlier and the time there was a five-man band of heroes in the 90s (very important to the plot,) but as the seasons progress things stray further and further from canon until you reach season 5 where the plot is now Steel Ball Run. There's going to be plenty of Jojo references all around, alongside homages from other Miraculous fanworks and fan concepts I like. The Parallel Paris Special is going to drop Marinette into a salt fic instead of introducing flipped-morality versions of the main three characters. Two more things:

There's going to be two Mayuras, although neither of them will be called Mayura on account of the lack of Peacock Miraculous. There is something to create life, however.

Justice shall prevail.

Footman: Ladies and gentleman, the king has now arrived. Please, make way for his grand entrance.

*Buisines begin playing as Camillot, dressed in a king's robe, enters the studio. Me and Chao, as Medival Mixels, are standing to his left and right respectively as we kneel down for him*

Camillot: Good evening, everyone, apologies for being late.

Davis (in Scorpi's body, and speaking in a British accent): Oh, your highness, I believe you have come to choose what Fridays should air tonight?

Camillot: Indeed, I have. Tonight, in honor of Bennett's birthday, I believe it is best to show... um...

Chao (speaking in a not as good, but still decent, British accent): Well, what is it?

Camillot: Well, uh... um... I, uh... Maybe we could... n-no, not that...

Davis (confused): Yes, your highness?

Camillot: No, that wouldn't... er... maybe... errrrrrrrrrrrrrr-

Davis (breaks character; whispering): Camillot, just make a decision already!

Camillot: I-I'm trying. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh- OH, I got it!

Chao: Well, what is your request, your highness?

Camillot: Okay um, how about we show... we show that one... episode of Twisted World that introduced me into the series?

Shivor (speaking with an online Medieval translator): Oh, isn't that the episode Whither Thou were... stuck in a time loop?

Camillot: Uh yeah, I think so...?

Chao (breaking character): Time loop?

Davis: It's a long story... *gets back into character* But your highness, there will still be 3 more hours of Fridays after that, you must have something else in mind for afterwards!

Camillot: I, uh... I-I'll think of something...

Sorry this was rushed, I've been a bit... distracted by something...

As you can see, to celebrate Jeff Bennett's birthday, Camillot was invited to choose what aired during the night (at least once he arrived, which wasn't until 8:30pm).

Also, Johnny Bravo showed up to the main studio.

However, you may be wondering why Camillot is dressed in a king's robe, and what "Twisted World" is.

For that, I'm gonna need you to start calling me the King of Unoriginality because I'm almost never able to come up with my own ideas.

The Twisted World of Mixels was a 50-episode series set in a post-apocalyptic version of Mixel Land and Mixopolis, where Nixels have mysteriously become way more ravenous and deadly, resulting in many Mixels dying. Some survived, but they've either been corrupted or twisted (pun-intended), with a few going completely insane. The surviving Mixels have to band together to wipe out the Nixel race.

The series was technically based around an old idea from another user (who's name I will not say) called "Twisted Mixels", except everything that happened was real (we got better dw). I was actually a part of it all, which is why I was uneasy with Camillot's decision.

I'll talk about it more in December.

Secondly, Camillot's robe was from the series that aired after Twisted World ended, first named Mixels 2035, and was later renamed Mixels: The Golden Cure.

Inspired by a discontinued set of stories from Mixel Immigrant Arresto (formerly named Arrestso), this was a 15-episode miniseries that took place in the future, in which Flurr went insane after being presumably mistreated by everyone around him. In the process, he also causes everyone in Planet Mixel to start aging, so some young Mixels are now shown as adults (don't worry no sexual content is shown or implied).

If you anything from the original story (known as Cubit Ball Run), you'd know that certain elements in the show are directly taken from the series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (i.e. some Mixels having spirits known as stands, Flurr using a mask to turn himself evil, etc.).

With Camillot, he was aged heavily (as well as other Mixels), and is now an elderly king (who kind of sounds like Christopher Lee). He was given permission to wear the robe that he wore for filming of the scenes.
