#thinking about this SO much!!

obsessed with house’s use of yiddishisms because it has several delightful implications. some of the most important people in house’s life are jewish (wilson, cuddy, taub), but literally none of them ever use yiddish to the extent that house does, which means that he has picked up on some really niche cultural terms in some other way. possibilities include:

1) house has researched jewish culture and language independently and extensively, presumably because of his relationship with wilson. very few non-jewish people recognize phrases like “kein ahora” and “shandah” unless they have a jewish loved one (particularly an SO), and even fewer become comfortable enough with such phrases to implement them into their regular speech. house seems to be quite interested in language, occasionally using languages like spanish and mandarin, but given that yiddish (or at least more obscure phrases like “gemutlicht”) is largely exclusive to jewish circles and house is a non-jewish atheist, i can’t think of a reason he would learn yiddish other than as an extension of his love for wilson.

2) wilson has dragged house to enough jewish family and/or community gatherings that house has not only picked up on these terms through cultural osmosis, but has even learned how to use them correctly (no easy feat!). this means that wilson could have been introducing house for years as his boybestfriend who just so happens to always be his plus one at seders and bnei mitzvah. admittedly, house is really strange about rachel’s simchat bat in s5, but i personally think that’s more related to his weirdness around cuddy in that season than anything else. TO ME house is an extremely annoying seder guest who’s there because his boybestfriend begged him to come along.

I actually need some fanfic, where Bruce and Jason are in the middle of some argument, and a casual (and a well-practiced with Dick before) sentence leaves his mouth, something along the lines "How old do you think you are?!", meaning that he is acting childishly. And because Jason is irritated, and his tongue runs loose in his anger, he screams back that he is nineteen, and Bruce just freezes, because... Oh. Jason is nineteen. He is a fucking kid - his kid - that lost years of his teenhood, and was forced back without anyone giving him a space to catch up, with everyone else already treating him like an adult... When he isn't.

I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever
