Hi there,
I hope you're doing well.
i read your post regarding SasuSaku and Sarada as a family and you stole the words right off my mouth.
I'd like to know your thoughts and opinions on Sasuke Retsiden because from what I can see, its only Jun Esaka (a mere light novel writer that writes non canon stuff) all over the internet being equally all over about her Sasuke Retsuden. I haven't seen any other light novel writer being more active about something non canon. Even kishimoto himself doesnt behave like this regarding his own work.
I'd like to also know about your opinions regarding Jun Esaka ATTEMPTING to remove or metaphorically kill Karin Uzumaki by making the main villain a Karin look alike and giving her sensory abilities to Sakura, which again, makes no sense. Does that woman hate Karin and SK so much? Is that woman so threatened by the very thought of SK as a couple that she had to incorporate a villain that looks like Karin Uzumaki down to a tee?
These are just my thoughts and speculations but I'm also really interested in knowing your side of the story.
Thanks for reading my long comment and i wish you a wonder day/afternoon/evening/night
Hi, @theuntamedangel! I appreciate the long comment! I hope you have a wonderful day/afternoon/evening/night, too!
Before I share my thoughts about Sasuke Retsuden, let me share that I did, unfortunately, have a sasusaku phase. I know. Shocker. The entire lore is here in case you're interested (promise it's relevant to my explanation).
I did hear about Sasuke Retsuden when I was still in college. Bits of information, specifically, about the chakra ring and from a perspective of someone who used to ship sasusaku casually, my initial reaction was okay good for them and I went on with my day. Note that I wasn't as heavily engaged in the Naruto fandom like I do now so for me to isn't active back then, hearing about Sasuke Retsuden, speaks volume on how it is over the internet that it even reached me.
I hate Sasuke Retsuden. It's badly written, it's OOC especially for OG Naruto characters, and the canon inaccuracies are more than enough to drive me into aneurysm.
Below this cut is my detailed thoughts about Sasuke Retsuden.
The villain looking like the male version of Karin caught me off guard. I don't know what the intentions behind the character design but I think they aimed for association as Jiji, one of the characters from this godforsaken novel, reminded me of Juugo.
I am not a sasukarin shipper but I do understand where the shippers are speaking from. I think they'll make a cool couple because Karin actually freaking cares about Sasuke when shit gets serious and outside of her "gag", she respects Sasuke's boundaries. Might be speaking out of the box but this novel in its existence was meant to be sasusaku-centric so the possibility of being threatened by all Sasuke-related ships, especially those making far more sense than SS, is high. I don't think Jun Esaka hates Karin. I would dare say that she picked a random character that could work as a direct contender to Sakura and unfortunately, she decided to scapegoat Karin. Moreover, the entire sensory ability shtick added to Sakura was uncalled for. I would go even further and say that Esaka's version of Sakura is what her stans hailed her to be--a superior version of [insert any Naruto's female character]. Even their pink haired kunoichi is incredibly OOC here and you expect me to take her seriously?
The funniest thing about Sasuke Retsuden is the way that they had to use SNS at first, specifically, Sasuke's mission is to find a cure for that chakra illness that Naruto alone suffers. Sure, this is SS centric but it all comes down to Sasuke and Sakura working together to find a cure for Naruto. Now, she could just write a novel about SS without using Naruto's "sickness" as some kind of a plot device, right? But no, she had to convince us somehow and an effective way to do that is literally Naruto and Sasuke.
The dinosaur. Don't even get me started. Even tailed beasts cannot fight against Sharingan to the point that canon graciously provided us evidence of both Madara and Obito controlling the Nine Tailed Beast. The very same Sharingan that made the higher ups of Konoha suspect the Uchiha clan as mastermind for that same incident. We're talking about the same dojutsu that manipulated the Fourth Mizukage. The canon inaccuracy throws me off the loop.
More inaccuracies. Suddenly Sasuke is an Earth and Ice Style user. Wow. Conveniently forgetting about Kakashi mentioning in Part 1 how Ice Style is a Kekkei Genkai that even Sharingan can't copy. As far as Naruto canon goes, Sasuke is a Fire and Lightning Style user. I don't consider Boruto as canon but even that animanga doesn't show any moment of Sasuke using Earth Style. It's insane that people claimed this as canon.
THIS DISTURBING INTERACTION. I did say that the OG Naruto characters are OOC in this shitshow novel and yes, unfortunately that includes Sakura. We've seen the way she react around Naruto's sexy ninjutsu antics. Unless objectification of women or the mere implication of it doesn't perturb her, then it says more about how Esaka portrayed her. I'd personally file a restraining order when a guy says he'd settle for my old, half smoked cigarette butts. I'm surprised that she didn't throw any snide remarks here.
WHO IS THIS SASUKE AND WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM. This panel made me laugh so hard because I feel like Esaka straight up ignored that Sasuke canonically spent years with his family before the Uchiha downfall happened. I don't think he'd be this clueless about how a married couple acts. Even in flashbacks, Sasuke was shown around his parents or Itachi, literally with his family. I think he knows well enough about married couples.
The ring part as well makes me cackle because Kurenai literally wears a ring in Shippuden. Trust me, Juugo-look-a-like, rings are used in Konoha by couples.
The Uchiha clan symbol takes me out because AREN'T YOU GOING UNDERCOVER IN THIS PRISON? WHY ARE YOU SHOWING THAT OFF?
The Chakra ring in question. Finding out the lore behind this further upset me and I am thankful that I no longer ship sasusaku. Show these panels out of context to someone with little to no exposure to canon and it would be romantic but if you know Narutoverse like the back of your hand, this novel served nothing. Seriously, the fact that Sasuke is incredibly OOC on this novel speak volumes. Imagine annihilating Sasuke's character to make SS work? Insanity.
Writing Edo Tensei with rose tinted glasses disgust me. That jutsu is straight up manipulating a dead body at your bidding. Tobirama shouldn't have invented that jutsu. Hinting that jutsu to be used to revive a loved one that passed away is vile and disgusting. The lack of attention to canon isn't a new thing for Esaka at this point.
Even this novel can't cover up the fact that Sakura doesn't know Sasuke well. If there's one thing that's consistent in the prequel, it was Naruto that gets into trouble. Sasuke doesn't use honorifics and he got away with it. His bluntness doesn't get him and everyone around him in trouble. Sasuke only began resorted to extremes when he was batshit blind and sinking into the unhinged depths of his hatred. Probably the only things that Sakura got correctly was Sasuke's kindness and his nonchalance about his looks but that's it. So the claim of knowing Sasuke inside and out is preposterous. The one who can say that is, guess who? Naruto.
Ending this long analysis with this panel because honestly, Ino is asking the questions for me. Unfortunately, despite being "married", their dynamic stayed the same. Sakura is still that same girl that has a crush on Sasuke, except she's in her 30s and Sasuke is still the same boy that rejected her date offers and the idea of being together with her, even reaching the point that he's away from her a lot.
I do apologize for going off to the point that I decided to pull a meta post about this. I do hope you're doing well and I appreciate the ask!

Iterators = Colonial Organisms
I’ve been thinking a lot about the iterators lately. Not any one in particular, nope, I’ve just – been thinking about their biology/structure. How they might’ve been built, what they’re made of, how the frick the Ancients made them so big that they built entire skyscraper cities on, etc. First two things are most interesting to me though, how do you build an iterator? What’s the process there? How do the metal and organic bits fit together? Are their metal parts even metal at all, because Pebbles’ robot cancer seems to be mutating directly out of the metal????
Probably not, honestly. Because metal can’t get cancer. It’s probably, I dunno, weird bone or something.
ANYWAY I think iterators are colonial organisms, like siphonophores. Think the Man ‘o War jellyfish – it’s actually not one creature, but a bunch of physically connected creatures, each with a specialized purpose that helps all the other creatures around it survive, and all working together. You’ve got critters that work as a digestive system, others for respiratory or circulatory, others that act as the outer shell/layer/skin, others that act as a skeletal framework, that kind of thing.
Iterators are like that, but on a MUCH larger scale, built by human(?) hands, and maybe with some fully mechanical parts mixed in here and there. I mean, just look at these examples of what all we definitely know they have:
Neuron flies, which store memories and I think carry signals/messages between other neural organisms.
Those weird red squiggly things that grow out of some walls and free-drift in other places – I’ve seen neurons connect to the tendrils coming off those things and give off little electrical flashes so those are more neural organisms.
The small hair-like tendrils that glow blue growing out of the wall are probably another version of the red squiggly things.
Inspectors are DEFINITELY acting as the immune system here. They attack you if you grab/harm neuron flies, they just throw spears and toss you around instead of eating you alive like OUR immune cells usually do.
Those weird red structures attended to by lil white spidery things in the Memory Conflux of Five Pebbles are probably some kind of long-term memory storage, considering the title of the sub-region.
On top of these, we’ve probably got some sort of circulatory system equivalent – in some places you can hear what sounds a bit like a heartbeat pulsing in the background. (Just, you know, if you were hearing it from right outside the vessel walls and hearing all the liquid rushing past on every beat.) There’s probably some sort of specialized system for sucking up and processing the water that the iterators canonically use as coolant, ending in some sort of respiration that lets out all the water vapor from that process. There’s GOT to be some sort of digestive system equivalent because I seriously doubt that the “bio” part of “bio-tech” can survive without SOME sort of nutrients, but Void if I know what that might be. Maybe they’ve got some of that glowy mold being cultivated somewhere in their structure, that stuff seems to grow on their probably-not-metal framework pretty well.
Then there’s whatever the rarefaction cell in Rivulet’s campaign is plugged into... it’s called the “Heart” in Moon’s structure, maybe it’s connected to a circulatory system, or maybe that’s a mechanical part versus an organic one, I don’t know. More food for thought.
About the only thing I think the iterators DON’T have is any kind of reproductive system. Iterators too close to one another can suck up all the water and leave another high and dry, so too many iterators in the same region would probably cause a drought. On top of that, lust is one of the earthly urges the Ancients are trying to let go of in order to ascend – no way they’d leave their giant holy supercomputers with the ability to do THAT. They’d probably have aneurysms even thinking about it.
#rain world#serious musings#rain world worldbuilding#rain world headcanons#iterators#iterator biology#rain world iterators#how the frick do the giant supercomputers work#this feels like the only thing that makes sense#colonial organisms have lots of lil parts that work together like a computer's parts#so it would in theory be easier to build something that freaking big#instead of trying to just grow it all out of the ground like a tree or something#...seriously tho what is the metal in their structure#it's not actually metal there's no way

D / L / N / P / T
Thank you 💖
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.
Hawk/BJ happy style. I have a feeling I'm missing out on some decent Hawkeye fic I might otherwise like because of this, but I just can't get into that Hawkeye/BJ happily ever after vibe. Earnestly shipping them would also probably help me get through a few of the more sloggy chunks of the later seasons - though on the flipside shipping them in a fucked up way helps me enjoy a lot of the weird conflict episodes, so it's not a bad tradeoff there.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)
I've said the whole BJ is interesting because of his flaws thing a lot so let's go with a different Mash character for this: Mulcahy is sweet and I love his friendship with Klinger.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
Evil Hawk/BJ fic 😈 I want misery I want unhappy endings I want psychosexual torment I want resentment I want it to be fucked up.
This feels spoiled of me lol because there are absolutely some great historically accurate feeling fics, but I always want more gay Mash fic that feels like it's set in the 1950s.
And more fic that really leans into the misery of the setting, the draftees imprisoned in a nightmare vibe. The army brass are jailers and the draftees all hate their lives and I want to feel that at least as much as I feel it in the show.
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
I'm into canon divergence moreso than new settings, so AU where Frank was kept as temporary CO for at least a few months after Henry died. Hawk bites the bullet and seduces him to redress the balance of power and secure his allyship.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
Gonna keep this Mash themed, so my Hawkeye is fine after the war headcanon - better than most of the cast. He goes home, spends a few months in Crabapple Cove, another few months in Europe, returns, gets his job in Boston back, returns to his pre-war social circle, falls in love with some dude unconnected to the war, and lives happily ever after.
It's a bit exaggerated to say I'd die defending it lol, I don't mind Hawkeye miserable to some extent post canon in fic (and have written it myself), and I get why it's a popular headcanon. But I'm married to my version of post-war Hawkeye like a year out, and idk if I could get into fic where he's like, depressed and struggling and/or isolates himself for years on end.

What Happens After Stravaganza
Or: How Baby Names Give Fabrizio an Aneurysm
I have my own headcanons for what happens after the series is finished. Having just finished yet another re-read of the series, I wanted to share my many thoughts with you. I’ve compiled most of these headcanons into this five and a half pages long rant, so bear with me. Let me know what you think!
Intro
Just a couple things before I get started:
First of all, two versions of this ”what happens next/next generation” exist, one based on the canon events and one based on my own “if Stravaganza was a tv show, here’s how I would fix the last two seasons” version. Most of the differences are mainly in the English side of things, but the main things remain the same. I’m only going through my canon compliant continuation here.
And second, a reminder that canon events end in 2006 in England and 1580 in Talia.
This long post will go through the immediate aftermath of the series, what happens in the years that follow, and what happens in the New Adventure Era. That is what I will call the era of the new Stravaganti, though I have only come up with the basic idea for just one so far. There will be a lot of gaps and missing information, so feel free to throw ideas at me, maybe some of them will inspire me to fill in the blanks! Anyway, let’s start where the series left off: The aftermath of Luciano and Arianna’s wedding and Rinaldo’s death.
Immediately after the series
After the series, the gate between England and Talia closes. No-one is able to go to the other world, and they can’t really find any explanations for it. The Talian Stravaganti keep working on it, trying to find the cause and to get the gate open again. Meanwhile, the English Stravaganti move on with their lives. They’re not even aware of the gate closing at first because none of them try stravagating for a while.
Fabrizio wants revenge on Bellezza, blaming the death of Rinaldo on the city and its leaders. It takes a lot of convincing from his family to keep the situation from escalating to an all-out war. Fabrizio reluctantly accepts that Rinaldo’s death was an accident, but he’s now more sure than ever that he wants Bellezza to one day to be ruled by a di Chimici.
Luciano’s warrant in the di Chimici cities is overturned for the same reason it was overturned in Fortezza. This frustrates Fabrizio, but his family once again keeps him from escalating the situation further.
The years in between – Talia
I want to note first that I’m about to list off a lot of different baby names and birth years. I decided not to go with the usual di Chimici naming conventions of giving the same 5 names to all the children. You can also assume that there may have been some miscarriages/stillbirths/children dying young in addition to the children I mention in this section. These are just the ones making it to the New Adventure Era, and they’re all based on Vibes and Divine Messages I sometimes get in my head (also known as Thoughts).
Bellezza
In Bellezza, Luciano and Arianna have (at least) five children, all of whom have ridiculously sentimental names. The first one is Davide, born in 1581. (Luciano has a minor crisis about being a “teen dad” because Davide is born before he turns 20, but no-one else understands what he’s on about because “it’s a normal age to have children in Talia, Luciano”.) The next one is Vittoria (1582). Silvia and Arianna raise her to be a potential new Duchessa after Arianna, though, spoiler alert, that plan won’t go through. I’ll talk more about Vittoria later on. Next there is Cesare (1584), and yes, this is in reference to the post I made earlier. Luciano did indeed get drunk with Cesare when Arianna was pregnant and lost a bet.
The second youngest of their children is Valeria (1587). Once Vittoria is out as a potential new Duchessa, Silvia and Arianna begin raising her as the new candidate instead. Luciano questions whether it would be better to just let the children be children, but Silvia tells him that “that’s not how politics work”. The youngest of the siblings is Guglielmo (1591). Dethridge died shortly before he was born, so Luciano and Arianna named their child in his memory.
Barbara and Marco’s children’s names ended up accidentally having a theme of all beginning with an A. Antonio, the oldest, is best friends with Davide, and the two try doing the ol’ switcharoo their mothers did, but they’re not smart enough to realize that in order to pull it off you need to a) look alike, b) lie well enough and c) have a mask that helps to conceal your identity. The other children are Anna, Agnese and Adamo (after Arianna’s alter-ego in Padavia).
Remora
Eventually Cesare takes over as the Horsemaster of the Ram, though he ends up spending a lot of time in “fancy circles” due to his friendship with Gaetano.
Gaetano and Francesca are still grossly in love even after many years of marriage. Gaetano gets to finally just enjoy the arts and eat good food, though he still sometimes has to worry about Fabrizio’s lust for power and revenge. Gaetano and Francesca’s first child, the one Francesca is pregnant with in City of Swords, is born late 1580, and is a girl they name Lucrezia. They also have Carlo (1582), the future Prince of Remora, Benedetta (1584), Ferrando (1587), future Prince of Moresco (more on this later), Clarice (1588) and Caterina (1593). Fabrizio got so angry when he heard that both he and Luciano would be made Lucrezia’s godfathers that he somehow came down with a fever and missed the christening entirely.
Giglia
Sandro and Brother Dog live happy and long lives. This is very important and worth mentioning.
After Bino (/Falco, 1580), it takes a few years before Fabrizio and Caterina have their next child, Isabella (1587). They still love each other, but their relationship is strained because Caterina has to keep reigning Fabrizio in to keep him from possibly starting a war and spiraling into madness. Over time she learns to do it more confidently, and becomes an expert on handling her husband. Their youngest child, Rinaldo, is born in 1592, and is named so only because a) all the other family names were taken and b) no-one else wanted to name their child after Rinaldo. Little Rinaldo has no interest in his father’s schemes, and rather than marrying to benefit the family, he would like to follow his late uncle’s footsteps and become a priest. Unlike his namesake, this Rinaldo has a genuine interest in religion, and eventually ends up becoming a Pope, though this time there is no scheming involved.
Classe
Beatrice is still officially cast out of the family, but everyone except Fabrizio and Filippo keeps in touch with her. Fabrizio does calm down enough to realize that he has to keep diplomatic relations to Classe in order to avoid a larger conflict, so he has to tolerate Filippo Nucci and Beatrice when it comes to certain official events. Though if he can, he’ll often find a representative to go to these events in his place, and he has not said a single word to his sister since she got married.
Beatrice and Filippo have only two children, Matteo (1584) and Nicoletta (1586). The latter is named in honor of Niccoló, and this annoys Fabrizio a lot.
Fortezza
There is a lot of rebuilding to do in Fortezza after the civil war. There are still tensions in the city between those that supported Ludo and those that supported Lucia. Her and Guido do their best to forget about the war, and they have two sons, Giuliano (1581) and Jacopo (1583). Fabrizio is not a fan of their marriage, and privately he says that the boys are “not real di Chimici”, and he worries about what happens to Fortezza after Lucia dies. In order to keep Fabrizio calm, Lucia promises that although her sons have their father’s last name, the ruler of Fortezza will still be called a di Chimici even after her death. This does not do much to ease Fabrizio’s nerves.
Volana
Alfonso keeps using Volana as a shield against Fabrizio starting an all-out war. Any time Fabrizio gets upset over Alfonso not taking his side on whatever weird plan he has going on, Alfonso kindly reminds his brother-in-law that Volana is the closest di Chimici city to Bellezza and its allies. If a war breaks out, Volana is the first one on the line, and Alfonso isn’t ready to take risks. (He doesn’t mention that Volana has a good relationship with Bellezza. Fabrizio doesn’t need to remember that when he’s being talked out of raising an army.)
Alfonso and Bianca have five children. The oldest, Ferdinando (1581), is named after the late Pope. Alfonso knew it was Rinaldo who was behind his death, and felt bad about it so he named his son in honor of their uncle. This is also why he and Bianca never name any of their children after Rinaldo. (They claim it’s so that Caterina can use that name.) The other children are Eleanora (1582), Giovanni (1584), Luciano (1586) and Beatrice (1588). Fabrizio isn’t happy about Luciano’s name, even though he’s named after Alfonso’s maternal uncle. Fabrizio just doesn’t want to be reminded of Luciano Crinamorte when he’s with his family. He’s also unhappy about Beatrice’s name, but Bianca keeps assuring him that her daughter is named after her aunt.
Bellona
By the New Adventure Era, Filippo still isn’t the Prince of Bellona. His father is old, but still alive, and Filippo is bored and frustrated. He keeps having trouble getting married, and it’s only after Fabrizio arranges him a politically advantageous marriage that he finally manages to find a wife. That’s also why his daughter Francesca, having been born in 1598, is so much younger than the other di Chimici children. Filippo spoils his daughter, but he’s worried that if he doesn’t have a son, the family will face another succession crisis in Bellona, and that’s something they do not need.
The years in between – England
After the series is over, Nick and Georgia manage to keep their relationship relatively drama-free and they stay together even while Georgia is studying and Nick is still in school. He gets so good at fencing that eventually he wins silver in the Olympics. When a reporter asks him how he feels about not winning, he says that he “looks better in silver”. Georgia becomes a journalist and her specialty is writing exposés about shady companies with unethical and environmentally bad practices.
Nick goes to university while still doing fencing (I haven’t figured out yet what he would study), but he is forced to stop doing sports when his leg begins to act up, and he has to have another surgery in his 20s. He and Georgia get married eventually, and they agree that they “might have kids someday, but definitely not now”. This goes on for a long time, but then the pandemic happens (yes, we’re going there). Georgia gets pregnant and they decide to keep the baby, and agree that Nick is going to stay home with it. Their daughter, little pandemic-baby Stella, is born in 2021. Nick uses his time as a stay-at-home dad to figure out what he wants to do with his life now that he can’t do sports anymore. He still often goes to Mortimer’s shop for tea with the baby. (The baby does not drink the tea.)
Isabel’s parents won’t let her do a full gap-year in the US, so eventually her and Sky decide to break up because the long-distance-relationship is a little too much for them. He ends up becoming a fairly successful artist, not world-famous, but definitely known within the art circles. (There may be just a hint of nepotism going on at the beginning.) He studies in the US and ends up splitting his time between the UK and US as an adult. He’s still best friends with Nick (Nick calls him after his silver-interview and asks if Sky saw it and got the joke), and although he’s Stella’s godfather, he’s decided that he’s fine with not having his own children, and is single as of the New Adventure Era.
Matt and Ayesha break up briefly during their college years, but end up getting together again. Ayesha studies law and Matt studies IT. They move to a boring neighborhood near Islington. Ayesha works in London and they have an agreement that Matt stays at home with their kids (2014/2016/2018, all still unnamed) until they've all started school. On the side Matt does some work here and there, and he ends up being the local “computer guy” to all the old people. He helps Mr. Goldsmith set up an online store for his shop, and runs into Nick whenever he has to go help with tech (Nick is still not good at any of that). Matt doesn’t know how to gossip so when Ayesha asks “Oh you saw Nick? What’s up with him these days? How’s the baby?” all Matt can say is “the baby is still a baby”.
Laura has not had any contact with Ludo (now called Luke) in years. His translation was a mess, and unlike Nick, who got an easy and soft start due to being a child, Ludo was in a lot of trouble right from the start. Laura’s parents were rightfully horrified that their child had a 24-year-old boyfriend with no past. Laura kept up with her fantasy about her and Ludo for a while, but eventually it all got too much for her and she decided to stop pursuing a relationship with him. She moves away from London when she goes to university. That’s when she pretty much drops off everyone’s radar apart from the occasional update they manage to gather from her social media. Laura blames herself for Ludo’s miserable life and just wants to get away from all of it.
No-one has really heard from Ludo in years either. He struggled a lot, since he had nothing to build his life off of. David Mulholland tried to help him get started, but it was a lot harder to do for a grown man compared to a teenager. The last anyone heard of Ludo was when he moved to Liverpool for some temporary job, but that was years ago, and no-one is sure if he’s even alive anymore.
Laura ends up back on everyone’s radar when Sky hears from his mother, who is now married to Paul, that Alice and Laura are together. That news is a little awkward for all the other Stravaganti, mainly Sky and Georgia, but Laura seems genuinely happy. She’s able to talk to Alice about all the things that happened to her as a teenager without lying or hiding information, and Alice is now fine with at least hearing about Talia, because she doesn’t have to fear losing Laura to it. Alice, who is now a journalist like Georgia, ended up connecting with Laura when they met because of their work. (I’m not yet sure what Laura does.)
Isabel is the biggest mystery to me so far. She didn’t become an artist in the same sense as Sky, though she’s still very much interested in art. For some reason I’m getting the Vibes that at some point she moved to Scotland and is very happy there. She could be a teacher(?), but honestly, this one needs a little more brainstorming.
The New Adventure Era
Background
After Ferdinando of Moresco died, his son Ferrando inherited the title of Prince of Moresco. However, Ferrando is gay and thus never married, which means that he has no children to be his heirs. He eventually realizes that he needs to sort out the matter of succession before he dies, so that Moresco won’t end up as Fortezza 2.0. At the time Fabrizio and Caterina haven’t had Rinaldo yet, so it is agreed that Moresco will go to Gaetano and Francesca’s second son, also named Ferrando. Once Rinaldo is born, Fabrizio feels that since they are the senior branch of the family, Moresco should go to Rinaldo, but so far he has not pressed the matter further to avoid any more drama within the family. He knows that everyone would side against him and take Gaetano’s side on this, especially since the matter has been clear for years now.
Fabrizio has, in general, matured and calmed down. He is becoming more and more like his father, and this is both a blessing and a curse. He’s less likely to act on an impulse, but he has become very good at scheming and plotting behind the scenes. His one weakness is his wife and children, and Caterina remains the only one that can truly manipulate Fabrizio.
Before Lucien ever stravagated, there were other talismans taken to England and other Stravaganti from that world (as mentioned in City of Masks). However, there was one talisman, taken from Moresco, which never found its Stravagante and remained unused. It was taken to somewhere in the 19th century, but the Talian Stravaganti have mostly forgotten about it by now.
The adventures begin
The New Adventure Era begins in 2021/1601. It has been pretty much exactly 15 years for England and 21 years for Talia since the gate closed.
A new Stravagante from England finds their talisman in Mortimer’s shop as usual. It is the long-forgotten talisman that was brought to England almost 200 years earlier. This one’s “problem” is that they are an only child whose parents are constantly away on business trips, so they’ve been forced to become very independent, almost too much so. They’re also very lonely whenever they’re not with their friends, because there’s usually no-one home. They even had to spend their recent 15th birthday alone, with just a card and a stack of money waiting for them on the kitchen counter. (They used that money to buy the talisman.)
The usual accidental stravagating happens, though this time it is very interesting to the Talian Stravaganti. Why is the gate suddenly open again? Why has more time passed in Talia compared to England? Will the gate remain stable again?
The new Stravagante ends up in Moresco and becomes friends with the younger Ferrando di Chimici, who has reluctantly moved there for the summer so that he can get to know the city he will one day rule. I have not yet figured out any more details for the main plot here, but I know that there will be Hijinks.
I mentioned earlier that we would get back to Vittoria. Well, it turns out that her and Bino have fallen in love and have a secret relationship that they maintain by writing letters and using official events as an excuse to meet each other. To these two idiots think it is soooo romantic that they’re together even though their parents hate each other. (Well, Fabrizio hates Luciano and Arianna, who at this point just consider Fabrizio an inconvenience when it comes to foreign politics.) During the New Adventure Era Vittoria and Bino get found out, and of course this whole thing blows up. Everyone is upset with them, and Luciano and Fabrizio are losing their minds. Eventually Bino, having learnt the art of manipulating Fabrizio from his mother, convinces his father that if he marries Vittoria, it will bring Bellezza closer to the di Chimici. Fabrizio remains under the impression that when Arianna is no longer the Duchessa, Vittoria will be elected and can then be used as a puppet. No-one tells him that Vittoria has no plans of becoming the Duchessa of Bellezza.
In clowncusion
There we go, my ideas for what could happen after the end of the series. Like I said, feel free to throw more ideas at me, I’d love to brainstorm some more fun headcanons. Especially if they torment Fabrizio.

Tender lovin' time (threatening)
Your amusement at Sukuna brings me much joy. It's what his cock-blocking attempts deserve, though to be fair, anyone not insane like Yuuji and Satoru would stop at the disembodied mouth threatening them. And hey, Satoru's faith is rewarded when Yuuji promptly shows off his lack of a gag reflex. Good instincts!
"If you're an unhinged paintbrush with empty throat disease" remains the sentence of all time, and I want it engraved on temples and sold on t-shirts. Kissing your brain on the mouth yet again. It's also well deserved because Satoru sure was going to just keep going till Yuuji woke up! And it's one thing to wake up to a mouth, but if Yuuji had been a deeper sleeper, he'd have woken to a whole asshole on his dick.
Still not over honey nut feelios btw, meme or not. I was looking forward to your reaction to how Yuuji reacts to Satoru's... everything, but especially being plunged headfirst into the kind of sex he's got no familiarity with, and I'm delighted to see it. Yuuji's chronic adaptability syndrome creeping into his sex life will never not be hilarious to me.
As always, I completely believe you about being chill and calm. You're zen. You invented serenity. Incidentally, I'm hugging my phone screen and trying to eat your tags. Still not over how much you like "monstrously wanton." Never going to be over you liking specific turns of phrase actually. I will simply scream about it forever, I guess.
The idea of a crossover between the kidnapping fic and this continues to make me slow-blink at the ceiling. In all fairness, that particular Gojou-Yuuji pair would give most canon-based versions an aneurysm or two. Satoru might expire. Adult Gojou in this fic, once he's back, would... probably understand.
Anyway, I'll kill and cannibalize on the hill of big-dick Yuuji. It's what my boy deserves. Make your men choke.
Once again losing it at your final tags. The "being dragged off the stage" energy is amazing. I am biting you affectionately.

Summary:
Shortly before the Goodwill Event, Yuuji finds that his teacher has de-aged to his seventeen-year-old self. He adapts a little too well.
Chapter:
Yuuji feels some kind of way about the fact that he’s tasting himself on Satoru’s tongue, but the longer the kiss, the more that taste fades, and then it’s just Satoru under it, a flavor that’s warm and living in ways Yuuji can’t ever describe. But he knows that taste now, and he thinks he’ll remember it for as long as he lives.
Satoru’s the one who pulls back, leaving Yuuji heaving for breath.
Good afternoon,” Satoru says. “You slept through breakfast and lunch. I got a little bored.”
“Bored,” Yuuji repeats incredulously. “Is that why you, uh…”
“Why I…?” Satoru prods with a mean little grin. “Come on, Yuuji, say it. Don’t be shy after how bold you were just now.”

The Way You Survive Is... (3/4)
Young minds learn what they're shown.
The Claustro's ready for a test-drive, and for better or for worse, Rikiya isn't alone.
Chapter Warnings: Self-triggering, PTSD flashbacks, heavy dissociation, vomiting, and Rikiya just generally being an unhealthy role-model for people who look up to him. The Claustro is a high-tech iron maiden and that's just canon, folks.
——— ——— ——— ———
Chapter Three: Perfection, Not Progression
Unlike many modern lifestyle designers, Detnerat’s production facilities were in-house, the better to holistically design products tailored to each individual customer’s needs. Those producing the goods were not just undertrained employees in workshops recreating en masse a single talented someone’s design, no. Templates were made to be broken; that was the Detnerat way!
It was, of course, also the case that Detnerat created enough other, below-the-table goods that it was far more secure to keep production in-house. Which was why, when one swiped their employee badge and held down the elevator button to the sub-basement for twenty full seconds, it would take one to the sub-sub-basement, which had been carefully removed from the official blueprints after the completion of the building.
The main thing that had been going on in the underground production facility for the past year was Rikiya’s personal project. The Claustro, well over three meters of hulking black steel, stood slumped under its own weight on a workstation platform at the center of the proving grounds area. Metal pegs which could be mistaken, from the outside, for the back ends of pistons protruded from its back and its shoulders, four each bolted through the gauntlets covering its massive wrists. Another pair jutted out from the chest, lined up directly over the place where, in due course, Rikiya’s sternum would lie beneath that enormous breastplate.
Just looking at the thing set his skin tingling, a flutter of anxiety in his stomach. It’s all right, he told himself. It will give us better results.
The Claustro’s chest cavity gaped wide, visible from the top via an enormous hole, the diameter of which had Rikiya bringing one hand to his neck with a vague sense of self-consciousness. He was bigger in his liberated form, but that big?
“No, your people didn’t forget about the helmet,” Skeptic said beside him, skimming over a tablet. “But we’re not testing the HUD today; we’re making sure this thing can stand up to your new grip strength.”
“I appreciate the solidarity, then, Skeptic,” Rikiya managed, because if his newest advisor wasn’t here about the electronic guidance protocols, then he did not have a reason to be here that didn’t amount to a personal interest.
The young man—Chikazoku Tomoyasu, graduated from a major tech university in only two years and, three years after that, already a third of the way up the chain of command at Feel Good Inc.—sniffed dismissively. “Someone here needs to be able to figure out the AED on the fly.”
Rikiya didn’t fight the smile that curled over his face in response. Whether it was habit or Skeptic’s bracing sarcasm, he couldn’t say, not with a countdown to the Claustro’s first full-body test run ticking down in his mind, but it was a brief respite he was willing to take.
“One of your many talents?”
“Yes, reading instructions written to be simple enough for middle schoolers is well within my capacity,” Skeptic snorted. He looked across the proving ground floor at Detnerat’s head engineer. “Got everything set?”
“We do,” the man—Kanazoku Mihatsu, code name Ardent, who’d been one of Rikiya’s first hires to help manage production when Rikiya was occupied with the business of, well, running a business—answered. “We’ve calibrated the dynamometers based on your previous numbers, sir. Today’s about seeing how much farther the Claustro’s pushing your limits.”
“Then I suppose I’ll get us started,” Rikiya replied, and shrugged off his jacket. Skeptic looked less than impressed with his attempts at exuberance, though, and Ardent only nodded solemnly, notes of worry still clear through a gaze full of reverence, so Rikiya said nothing further, only draped his jacket over Ardent’s offered arm and stepped up to the platform as the other two men retreated behind the safety of the observation wall.
With a sudden thrum from its servo motors, the Claustro folded open, sheets of metal sliding back into casing chambers or rotating into open positions. It looked, Rikiya thought vaguely, trying not to let his gaze linger on the spikes of metal jutting out of the machine’s inner back, something like a chrysanthemum with the heart removed, all thin petals of steel nestled around an empty central cavity. Though, with the way it would soon be closing back up, perhaps a Venus flytrap would be more accurate.
Breathe, he told himself. It’s a test run in lab conditions. It’s perfectly safe. They even left the helmet off.
It was a small kindness, and (seeing as it was also a massive workplace safety violation enabled only by Rikiya’s resilience in his transformed state) a mark of faith. He held that thought and fixed a smile on his face before he turned back toward Skeptic and Ardent and took a last step back into the waiting machine, letting his body swell up to fit.
The ribboning metal wrapped around him instantly; equally instant came the jump-start slam of his heartbeat as the walls closed in. Cold swept over his face, the ink wash stain of Stress taking hold, the flux in temperature so sharp it left the room wheeling with vertigo. His throat went tight as a pulled seam.
His hands and arms enlarged, fitting themselves into the Claustro’s gauntlets as naturally as gloves; his shoulders broadened, taking the suit’s weight like a yoke bar as he straightened, still growing to match the exoskeleton’s space even as he registered the way it began to press back against him. Hydraulic plates constricted around his chest and arms, lighting up his nerves with old terror.
Movement from the interior shafts. He knew what was coming, and still he couldn’t stop the way his breath seized when they pressed into his skin, sharp-tipped and inexorable. His peripheral vision flickered darkly, a black-to-blue strobe, and Quarter’s voice, unforgotten in twenty years and still laced with venom, stirred the air at his temple.
“It would shame Destro to see you this way.” The man’s eyes were there—bottomless, pitiless—when Rikiya looked up across the gym. “Turn that fear of yours to the good of the cause. Stand up.”
Yes. Rikiya’s lips framed the word as he blinked, unable to differentiate the prickling pain of his spiraling panic attack from the very real workings of the Claustro. The vibrato of the servos drowned out the sound of his breathing. Each thin whine of the machine’s motors accompanied another compression of the internal plates and spikes; each in turn drew out another spasm of stress, reinforcing his skin to stone-like hardness.
Stone cracks cartoonishly easily under pressure. You must be much stronger than that.
“Re-Destro, sir; does everything feel—like it should?” Ardent’s voice crackled over the intercom, faint through the tapestry of throbbing sound in Rikiya’s ears. He felt himself nod. It does. Excellent work. Now, how are we testing the grip strength? Please tell me quickly, so I can get out of this goddamned deathtrap.
He shaped the words to teeth and tongue, leaving out the unnecessary commentary, and tried to focus back in on his engineer. The man and Skeptic—wonderfully reliable Skeptic, who would definitely not let this thing kill him, and who was so confident in his ability to use an automated external defibrillator on the off-chance that Rikiya actually did have a heart attack here, though an electric shock probably wouldn’t help with an aneurysm, if that was the particular medical crisis that struck instead, just like his dear departed grandfather, Destro’s son, who escaped all this the only way their line could—no—the man and Skeptic—
“Focus on the target,” Quarter’s memory admonished him, and Skeptic interrupted with, “Can you walk around?”
Rikiya focused on Skeptic’s face, the sharp black line of his bangs, and nodded. I can’t feel my face. I wonder if I’m still smiling? I hope not; it would probably look ghastly. He walked towards the testing apparatus—well, his body did. He felt very little in control of it right at that moment.
The dynamometers were simple enough things, not so different from the normal medical version for people in physical therapy. The main difference was that they were some three times the normal size, as well as being wall-mounted, such that all Rikiya had to do was walk up, wrap a careful grip around the handles, and squeeze.
The world was rapidly going foggy and white-rimmed. A bad sign. I want this to be over.
There was an electric pop Rikiya registered only when it was followed by a loud crack and a subsequent hissing of pressurized air. Releasing his hold on the dynamometers, he took a step back and tried to focus on them. He had—broken them, it seemed, the metal rods burst through the backs of their casings, discolored with grease.
And then Ardent and Skeptic were at his side again, Ardent flashing Rikiya an awed glance even as he bent closer to examine the damaged equipment. Skeptic looked at his tablet, looked at the dynamometers, and shook his head. His hand flicked twice across the screen, two sharp gestures; Rikiya tried to swallow back envy at how quick and clean the movements were, but it seemed his body was still not taking orders from him.
The Claustro folded open and Rikiya stepped-slash-fell out. An unfamiliar body caught him and he hazily looked down into vacant black eyes. Oh, yes, that was Skeptic’s preferred puppet design, wasn’t it?
So wonderfully reliable. I should send Chitose a gift basket for recommending him.
“That’s got us enough to work with tonight,” Skeptic said with total confidence. “You should go home. I’ve already got a cab waiting.”
“The results—” Re-Destro heard himself say.
“Inconclusive, but since you broke the testing device, there’s no point in you hanging around just to babysit the number-crunching.”
“But the results,” he tried again, and Skeptic sighed in exasperation.
“The dynamometers could take up to a twenty-five percent increase on your previous output,” he said, voice brisk, refreshingly brusque despite the difference in their age and rank. “You squeezed them so hard you pushed the rods out the back ends. Congratulations, you cost your production department a few hundred thousand yen, but also, congratulations, that’s probably a forty percent increase on your last record. You definitely won the sports festival. Now go home. I’ll e-mail you the rest.”
Rikiya—did not remember the next few minutes. He found himself in the back of a car, running his fingers over the suit jacket folded over his arm and feeling vaguely distressed that he couldn’t feel the exceptionally fine weave of the cloth. And after his tailor had worked so hard to incorporate the prolongate tech into the wool, too. The lights of the city at night played across the backs of his hands in bands of darkness and neon color as the driver’s radio played a sweet, smooth song at the edges of his hearing. It wasn’t unbeautiful.
He disembarked at his high-rise, rode the elevator up to his suite, and keyed in his door code all without his mind reengaging for a moment. It only finally nudged him, in the darkness of the entryway, to point out that his mouth had watered, he had swallowed the saliva down, and now his mouth was full of fluid again, and that sequence of events only ever meant one thing.
He made it to the bathroom right on time, though if throwing up everything he’d eaten today was what he was returning to his body for, it would have nice of his brain to hold off a bit longer.
Look on the bright side, he told himself through the heaving misery, the Claustro is even more effective than you’d hoped. Thinking about it drove his gorge up again—ah, that would be the norimaki from lunch—and he curled tighter over the toilet bowl, shivering with exertion.
“Re-Destro?”
He jerked at the address, banging his elbow against the porcelain, and raised his head to see the boy standing at the door to the bathroom, his glowing eyes round and distraught.
“Geten?” he managed, and the reflexive attempt to swallow down acid brought it back up again. By the time he was through the next round of gut-clenching retching, Geten was at his shoulder. Cold hands pressed fitfully across his back, then rose to comb through his hair, peeling it away from his face. It hadn’t really been in the line of fire—Rikiya wore it too short for that—but Rikiya had once held Geten’s hair back the same way, so he was doubtless trying to return the gesture.
“Tell me what to do,” the boy said, a frightened underscore to the words, and guilt pricked at Rikiya’s chest, still sore from the press of those twin metal shafts. You can’t let him see you like this.
It was a stabilizing thought, at least, one that had a near-nostalgic sense of normalcy. He spat into the bowl and took a shaky breath.
“A glass of water,” he said, and waved vaguely up at the sink. As Geten moved to obey, Rikiya wrinkled his nose at the rank stew in the bowl and patted at the side of the toilet until he found the manual flush button. The last thing he needed was to get sprayed in the face by the bidet.
He spat into the bowl again as the water whirled away, then sighed, resting his forehead against the back of his hand, elbow on the seat. What a mess. He took the glass from Geten, murmuring thanks despite the foul taste in his mouth, and sipped at it gingerly. Rinse and repeat, until finally he had a meager mouthful he didn’t mind swallowing. Geten stayed crouched next to him the entire time, petting at his hair.
“You,” Rikiya said at last, “were not supposed to be here until tomorrow.”
“I got permission to come early,” Geten answered with not a whisper of guilt. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Rikiya sat back enough to roll the stiffness out of his neck and looked up into Geten’s unconvinced expression. “Really. Get me a refill?”
Rikiya forced himself to his feet and flushed the toilet once more as Geten took the glass without complaint. His usual winter coat was missing, leaving him in his day clothes, a long-sleeved shirt and heavy pants, both plainly wrinkled in the clean white light of the bathroom. He had, at some point during however long he’d been waiting, remembered to take his boots off, definitely not always a given, but a promising sign for the state of Rikiya’s upholstery.
“Were you training too hard?” the boy asked him, expression solemn as he handed back the glass.
“It’s only ‘too hard’ if it incapacitates you, so no. I was just working on something new.” Rikiya ushered them both out and towards the guestroom where, sure enough, Geten’s things were strewn across the furniture, his boots tossed in a corner and his coat wadded up amidst a nest of bedding pulled onto the floor. His little suitcase, purchased back when he’d first made one of these weekend visits and somewhat battered from a child’s casual treatment in the years since, lay tipped over just inside the door. One of Rikiya’s dinner plates sat on the floor; in it, a small but carefully sculpted ice dragon was gradually transmogrifying into a puddle.
“A new technique?” Geten perked up and sat down on the bed, looking up at Rikiya in rapt interest as he moved the plate up to the bedside table.
Rikiya smiled, taking another sip of water, and shook his head. “A new piece of equipment.”
“What is it? Did you bring it home?”
“No, it’s back at work. It’s not finished yet.” Rikiya gathered up the sheet and blanket and dropped them, still balled up, onto the bed. He then sat down next to the boy and did not relax his weight against the headboard, tempting as it was. “It’s a powered exoskeleton—like a robot suit,” he amended when Geten only stared at him blankly at the first description.
Geten tilted his head, brow furrowing. “How does that support your meta-ability?”
“You don’t think it would?” Rikiya asked, nursing the water. Geten had long proven completely impossible at school, refusing any but the most basic of tutoring, so it never hurt to encourage his critical thinking skills when the opportunity presented itself.
“Robot suits are for people who need armor. Or who want to be able to punch harder than they can on their own.” The boy paused, thinking, then added, “And for people who stay one size. But your power armors you, and it makes you stronger, and it makes you bigger. So what do you need a robot suit for?”
“That’s very well thought-out.” Geten grinned at the compliment and Rikiya resisted the urge to ruffle his pale hair; he was getting old enough to protest such gestures. “The size isn’t a problem. The Claustro’s designed for me at near my maximum size anyway, and it can accommodate a bit bigger or smaller. And it will make me stronger, not by augmenting my physical strength, but by augmenting my stress.” The words came easily; he’d explained to enough others by this point—his inner circle, his engineers, and a few key financiers at that.
“It—stresses you? And you turn stress into power, so…” Geten nodded understanding. “But how does it stress you?”
“Mostly internal pressure plates,” Rikiya answered dryly, and threw back the last of the water lest bile start to creep up his throat again. In the face of Geten’s wide-eyed expression, he soothed, “Destro’s cause demands much of all of us. It’s nothing I can’t handle, Geten. It’s an honor to carry such burdens for the sake of Liberation.”
Geten nodded slowly, his features settling into understanding and a familiar look of resolve. “I want to fight you in it one day,” he declared, “when I’m strong enough.”
For a moment, Rikiya was lost for a response. The Claustro was most certainly not meant for sparring, and it would—hopefully, presumably—be well out of the testing phases by the time Geten was anywhere near that level, if he ever was. There was only ever so much ice in a given range, after all. Still, the thought of thick layers of ice freezing over the already constricting layers of the Claustro unit, sealing him in beneath the surface, unable to even move…
That was the winning secret to Stress, of course. In a combat scenario, there was no practical ceiling. Just thinking about it made his stress marks throb, but this was not really the time or place for such rhetorical exercises, especially when he had no lunch left to lose.
He forced a smile. “We’ll see.”

for ask thingy: L E M O N :) 🍋🍋🍋
the lemon... is in play
L: Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. [Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there’s no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character you hate.]
Peter Jakes from Endeavour is, in his own way, a tremendous success story. He overcame a LOT of baggage and while I don’t necessarily like him most of the time, when his full story was revealed I grew to appreciate him a lot more than I had before.
E: Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
Very rarely outside of casual conversations with friends in the fandom, but among my fandom buddies I’m kind of known for my ability to swing rapidly between gutwrenching angst and ridiculous crack. Deke/Enoch for Agents of SHIELD. The original version of the mermaid au for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I don’t remember any off the top of my head for Cabin Pressure that were specific to me, but I distinctly remember being involved in Immortal Snoopadoop and Martin’s freckly accidental nudes.
M: Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
There are quite a few that I’d love to hang out with, but Bertie Wooster is such a sincerely wonderful friend to people in his canon - most of whom do not return the favour. His cheerful outlook on life and flair for words would be good for me, and I like to think that I’d be basically the one person who actually listens to him.
O: Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
Spotify shuffle gives me Please Don’t Say You Love Me by Gabrielle Aplin. That one’s unquestionably Phryne Fisher/Jack Robinson, from Phryne’s point of view. Although, fun fact, the music video actually features an actor from another one of my fandoms - Iain de Caestecker from Agents of SHIELD.
N: Name three things you wish you saw more in your main fandom [or a fandom of choice].
I’m going to be lame and just do things I want to see more of in general, since I don’t really think I have a main fandom?
1. Amicable exes. Not every relationship ends in fire and brimstone, and way too often exes are demonized for no other reason than to give the preferred ship a hurt/comfort opportunity. I know it’s not always possible to do amicable splits, like in situations where there’s canonical cheating, but... not every relationship ends in cheating or abuse. The ex is a person too. If you’re not treating every character you write as a three dimensional person with their own wants and needs in life, you’re doing a disservice to your writing.
2. If the characters are weird people... let them be weird. This character is a super spy? Show me random paranoid habits they don’t even think about anymore that would be absolutely bizarre to a normal person. Another character is an athlete? They’re probably eating a very strange diet by normal standards, whether in terms of quantity or nutrition. A character has Opinions about personal space? They’re probably never going to sit on a couch of their own volition. Stuff like that. It doesn’t need to go so far that you’re basically writing an alien, but like... people are weird! The weird parts of characters are why we love them so much!
3. This one is just something I personally love, but there are NEVER enough new-relationship fics for me. Like, they’ve already done the getting-together part, but they’re still kind of growing into the realities of being in a relationship. The specific awkwardness of that situation is like catnip to me. Are we telling people yet? What do I refer to you as, if we are? At what point is it just assumed I’m staying the night? Do I leave a spare toothbrush at yours? Can I kiss you in public? All those beautiful awkward questions. *flaming elmo*
#don't get me wrong I LOVE established relationship fics#and I LOVE getting together fics#but slightly unsure new relationship fics truly set my brain on fire#it is the goodest of the good shit#also I need to rewatch s2 of endeavour#plans for next week I guess#ahobbitinhogwarts#asked and answered

D, K, S, U, Y, and Z for the meme, please!
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice)
I mean, I’d have a lot more content to get into if I liked Jack/Pitch, but I’m just not about it. I know this seems weird because I’ve written plenty of it for the kinkmeme and some of it I am proud of, but there has to be a TON of character work for me to believe the ship when written by anyone else. I can’t buy it when Jack and Pitch are in their regular canonical forms or in a close human AU and they just *of course* fall together. I cannot see it. And to me it’s about as erotically appealing as throwing a bunch of sticks in a bag and shaking it around. .....I forgot to be nice
K -Say something nice about someone in any of your fandoms
I love @marypsue even though she once ate a piece of popcorn off the floor on purpose and then kissed me like 30 seconds later
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
Kozmotis Pitchiner in my Golden Age verse isn’t actually a man, he just assumes he is because that’s so much a part of the Golden General persona that he HAS to maintain for any autonomy/safety. After going through all the shit he does the situation really is basically “I lost my gender in the war”
U - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms
Rachel from Animorphs, my child who I identify with despite being basically nothing like her
Chrestomanci from Chronicles of Chrestomanci, pretty fly for a white guy
Sandy from Rise of the Guardians and etc, if I had a more interesting job and blonde hair I think I would be A Sandy at this point
Christopher Carrion from Abarat, sometimes you eat the deep fried twinkie on purpose
Kozmotis Pitchiner but literally just the fandom version, I cannot emphasize how much the author who can make money off of Kozmotis Pitchiner did not create the version that I care about
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)
Star Trek tho I’m trying to get into it (there’s so much of it though?) and the Witcher I guess, I’ve actually read a Witcher fic even though I’ve seen zero episodes though I kind of want to. I guess what I’m saying is that I find it difficult to watch TV for some reason
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged)
There are things I think fanfiction does better than canonical works. This is something I haven’t posted about yet because I’m still trying to articulate to myself what I mean. I’ve read plenty of original novels that were very satisfying emotionally and did the same kinds of things that the best shipping fic does (okay maybe not plenty but enough) and some movies manage it too (very few that I’ve seen though).
Sadly one of the examples I want to use to talk about this gives people aneurysms (that only took me two tries to spell). Anyway, let’s look at Reylo. I absolutely believe that there are well-written, thoughtful, substantial, and hot Reylo fics out there, because the characters are perfect for that kind of shipping. But I firmly dislike everything that played up their connection/relationship and also the kiss in the last Star Wars movie. Canonicity on even a relatively weak level flattens a lot of ships and makes them less appealing.
I mean, I haven’t been able to figure it out while sober, so I’m certainly not going to figure it out tonight. Maybe it’s that a lot of mainstream media doesn’t do the work of making a relationship plausible? But there’s so much where I ship something because of the canon dynamic but I’m also aware that I would hate the canon version of a sexual/romantic relationship. Some things are fanfiction’s territory, and that’s GOOD. Even if I think something is interesting/plausible based on the characters, that doesn’t mean I trust canon with it. Especially megacanons like marvel or dc or star wars or what have you. Ah, I can’t get to the bottom of this tonight. There’s my ramble.

Scamander Headcanons Cuz I'm Pissed At Life Right Now
I'm in a very shitty mood so I'm gonna try and get rid of it by indulging in my version of the Scamander twins and their parents and life. Please note none of these are canon, they're my personal headcanons and opinions, you're allowed to have different ones. These are the ones I'm sticking too though, so have fun with yours like I have fun with mine:
Lysander is the oldest by a full five minutes.
They're the same age as Lily Luna, but Lily was born first.
While they aren't official Wotters, Luna and Rolf spend many holidays and just general get-togethers with them, so the twins grew up around the Weasley cousins and the Potter kids.
Lorcan is a Hufflepuff like his father but takes after his mother in personality.
Lysander is actually strikingly similar to his great grandmother (Tina) and his great grand uncle (Theseus).
Lysander is a Ravenclaw like Luna.
Lorcan is a very quiet and airy person, seeming to be constantly stuck in a daydream and often seen swaying on his feet as if to music.
He's a generally very happy person and loves hugs.
He gets along with most people, though he is occasionally bullied for being "weird".
Never seems to mind the bullying, usually just smiles through it and often will try to hug his bullies because "they need a hug".
Lysander, on the other hand, is very different, argumentative and cynical, hard to talk to because he tends to ramble when he's anxious (which is a lot).
Unlike Lorcan, Lysander has trouble working around his emotions, and usually just ends up getting frustrated and angry.
Finds it difficult to make friends because of internal self doubt and the fear that they'll ditch him eventually when they realize he's so difficult.
Because of this fear, he tends to ghost potential friends before they can really get to know him.
Says it's for the best.
Lorcan is a Legilimens like his great grand aunt (Queenie).
Lysander, an absolute dumb ass, is unaware of his brother's talent until they're around seventeen or eighteen, because he's a fucking idiot.
Like most born Legilimens, Lorcan has trouble controlling it sometimes, which often lead to migraines and physical trembling, fatigue and fainting spells.
If the thoughts get too overwhelming then Lorcan will seek out the most relaxing presences, the people whose thoughts aren't as loud, or are more predictable.
Lysander is often thinking of simple things like school or music, occasionally he'll be reciting something ridiculous in his head, and Lorcan finds it oddly therapeutic, so nine times out of ten he'll look to Lysander for comfort.
Other comforting presences are Filius Flitwick (he's always thinking of music compositions for some reason), Hagrid (always thinking about his creatures and his cooking), Scorpius Malfoy (his internal rambling is quite similar to Lysander's), McGonagall (she knows about his talent and always tries to be aware of her thoughts when she's around him, so she doesn't overwhelm him), Madam Pomfrey (also aware of his condition), and of course his parents.
Being in the great hall for meals always strains him the most.
Lorcan seems to take after their family the most, and has a born talent for dealing with and caring for magical creatures.
He was capable of calming even the testiest of creatures when he was still very small (and he's Newt's favorite but don't tell Lysander).
Lysander, on the other hand, is absolutely horrible around animals.
He doesn't even own an owl/cat/toad because when Rolf took him to get a pet for school, everything he held tried to bite or scratch him.
Because of this stark deviation from his family, Lysander spends much of his youth and teenage years hating himself, doubting himself, and fighting against incredible shame, thinking he's somehow less than the rest of his family, assuming they're ashamed of him and hate him as much as he hates himself.
He finds a bit of comfort in his studies, and prefers reading and hiding in the library or down by Black Lake over making friends (because he's honestly terrified of making friends).
He has amazing grades in everything accept for his Care of Magical Creatures class.
Though Hagrid never says so, Lysander can tell his teacher is always disappointed when he messes something up.
He's excellent at the written aspect of the class, he just can't physically handle the creatures.
Lorcan can read him like a book, and always feels sad when he hears Lysander thinking so badly of himself.
He tries to cheer Lysander up the best he can by reassuring him that just because their name is Scamander, doesn't mean they all have to be Magizoologists.
That Lysander can be anything he wants.
In the end he takes a lot of strength from Tina and Theseus, who become his role models, and he becomes an Auror straight out of Hogwarts.
Lorcan, unlike Lysander, loves animals. Creatures don't have any discernible thought process that humans can interpret, so Lorcan finds being around them very soothing.
He owns a big ginger half Kneazle cat, a gift from Rolf when he was just a kid, given to him when it was just a kitten.
The cat fucking hates Lysander and Lysander hates it right the fuck back.
Lorcan takes him everywhere though and it annoys Lysander SO much, cats don't belong in the FUCKING classroom!!!!
Despite how different the twins are, they're very close. Maybe not attached at the hip, but still close.
Lorcan isn't ashamed of hugging his brother whenever they cross paths at school, saying he loves him every chance he gets.
Lysander, while not as physical as Lorcan, still loves his brother dearly, and though he complains about the constant hugging, he has never and will never push Lorcan away.
Also not one to throw around the phrase "I love you", Lysander will mumble it incoherently when Lorcan insists he say it back.
He acts annoyed with his brother sometimes, because Lorcan's airy go with the flow attitude clashes terribly with Lysander's schedule oriented life.
Lorcan is a messy kid, his robes are never on right and his tie is always crooked or knotted wrong, so whenever Lysander sees him he stops just to fix the tie and straighten his robes.
Of course the minute he's gone Lorcan absentmindedly messes everything up again and gives Lysander a brain aneurysm from it.
To people who don't know them, it might look as if Lysander hates his brother, is so terribly annoyed with him, but Lysander loves his brother, and he hates nothing more than when people bully him.
While Lorcan doesn't mind it, Lysander has gotten into more than one physical fight (who needs fucking wands when you have fucking FISTS) trying to get the bullies to back off.
Lysander has a strong sense of justice and wanting to look after the little guys who can't defend themselves, which is one of the reasons being an Auror fits so perfectly for him.
Lysander is also an excellent flier and loves Quidditch, but never tried out for his house team because of his anxiety and fear of failure.
After Hogwarts, Lorcan studies Magizoology with his parents, specializing as a Healer for Magical Beasts (wizard vet!!!).
Lysander moves to his own flat in London to be closer to the Ministry and his work, partly because being an Auror is dangerous and has the potential of making him enemies, so he doesn’t want to end up bringing danger to his family.
Lorcan stays living at home because that was where their creatures were, where he studied after school and took care of the magical beasts that his family would bring home.
Though he would also travel in the situation where a creature was sick and couldn’t come to him instead.
Lysander is bisexual, but he’s had a crush on Lily since they were thirteen.
It took him several years to realize he liked her as more than a friend, though, and Lily was the one to ask him out first.
At first their “dates” were restricted to studying as friends (Lysander helping Lily prepare for exams), flying together during free periods (Lily insists Lysander help her practice for Quidditch), and walking to Hogsmeade and spending the day there together.
They don’t become an “official” couple or tell their families until after graduating and getting jobs.
Lorcan is omnisexual, but it’s very difficult for him to open up to people since their intentions are so clear to him, and normally not as pure as he would like.
He isn’t one to take relationships lightly, and is actually very sensitive when it comes to people’s crushes on him, or if he’s the one with the crush.
In the future he ends up falling in love with one of Lysander’s Auror partners, Liam McLaggen (OC), which Lysander isn’t exactly HAPPY about.
Both Lysander and Lorcan are around the same height.
Lysander has his mother’s silvery-blue eyes and keeps his hair neatly cut and styled.
Lorcan has blue-green eyes (see Newt!!!!) and his hair is a bit longer and curlier than Lysander’s (it’s also a lighter shade of blond).
After years of reading by dim wand light in the middle of the night, Lysander had to get himself glasses before starting at the Ministry(who hasn’t read books in the middle of the night under the covers with nothing but a flashlight?).
He’s supposed to wear them all the time, but rarely does, claiming he only needs them for “reading”.
It takes a while, but Lysander eventually becomes good friends with both James and Teddy.
James played difficult at first, pretended he didn’t like Lysander because he was dating Lily (and as the big brother it’s his job to be suspicious of his baby sister’s boyfriend, right?) but they genuinely got along and enjoyed each other’s company.
James basically adopted both Lysander and Lorcan as two more little brothers. Lorcan is very pleased with having another brother, Lysander not so much.
Lysander didn’t make any permanent friends during his seven years at Hogwarts, but as soon as he joined the Aurors and was placed into a field team he quickly made friends with each of his partners.
He would die for them, and they would die for him (but he’s not allowed to die cuz Lorcan would cry and Rolf would ground him).
Okay heck that’s all I got for right now, but writing all this down was super therapeutic. Heck I love the Scamander brothers. And I know everyone in fandom probably have a million different headcanons for these good boys, considering they’re not mentioned much in canon aside from the fact they exist, so their personalities are entirely fluid and up for interpretation, buuuuuut I’ve thought so damn much about about them and I’ve grown super attached to my version of the boys. I wanna reiterate what I said before though, if you have headcanons that differ from mine you are hecking valid and should be proud of your headcanons because they can be insanely hard to think up!
Anyway yeah, I’m in love with the Scamander brothers, bye!

Fandom Meme
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
Uuuh, well, lemme think, for fantoms that aren’t sonic stuff, I enjoy Retsuko and Haida because adorable. Angus and Gregg from NITW is too adorable for it’s own good.
Sonic wise, well, I’m not strong on my ships but they’re are some I do think about or do think are matching, I think Shade and Knuckles are a good match, I enjoy Espio and Tikal, especially in my canon.
I do love Locke and Luger a lot though, since I can see them working in my canon, but other then that, I’m not huge on ships so eh.
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
Locke and Luger, mainly because they were related but then with some fanart and talking with friends of mine, especially @terraqua111, I started to like it and my friends had a point that they were too distantly related for it to matter anymore. She also showed me Lien-Da and Xenin which I liked.
I also didn’t consider Locke to be paired with anyone else before Luger, then I saw @lockewat‘s ship, Chuck and Locke... and I thought it was quite suiting as well.
Two other ones are Vanilla and Big because that was so adorable and that would be such a peaceful relationship good god it’s what they’d both need, so many picnics for dates. and @motobugg did some work on Rouge and Wave which I have never considered and I immediately thought... damn that would actually work a lot. XD Also Shadamy at some points due to a friends artwork and Shadow would be balanced from Amy’s personality that he would need.
C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will. I’ve never been big on Julie-Su and Knuckles, in the comics it felt kind of forced to me, same with Sonic and Sally, that I don’t see them suiting each other at all.
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.
Ummm, I don’t know, I can’t think of one.
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
Uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh, I don’t know.
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
Sonic fandom. XDD Been in that for around 8-9 years. Since I was 9 or 10 years old.
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
I think it would’ve just been Shade and Knuckles. lol Again ships aren’t my life.
H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?
Mainly ongoing stuff, I know it started with games, so I guess games? But I enjoy shows/series as well.
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Ummmm... not that I know of.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.)
Animal Crossing? I didn’t start playing the phone game until I saw people talking and reblogging stuff about it, then I tried it.
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
Well, in Steven Universe, a lot of the character have great arcs, that who their true opinions and colours, like how Amethyst had self-hating habits, Pearl didn’t think she was worth much, and seeing Peridot’s growing into a whole different gem, it’s really cool.
I’ll go with um... Lars from Steven Universe, I didn’t like him much as a character at first, but I could understand his insecurity and being unsure on how to act and how to show himself, and being scared to show his true colours... but now he’s showing his own worth and letting himself be who he is with the Off-colours, which I can genuinely appreciate about him, he’s much better as a character now.
M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
Can I say the entire brotherhood? XD I would love that like you wouldn’t believe.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
Just more Brotherhood content in general, uuuummm more monster-related AU’s? I don’t know, maybe more merchandise too? I don’t know I’m not all that demanding about content. o-o I’m terrible at this.
O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
All the Way (Jacksepticeye fan song) is the one that came up on shuffle, and it reminded me of Hawking, at least my version. I could imagine he would listen to this to motivate himself or something like that.
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
...Trying not to say Monster AU for any sort of fandom CRAP TOO LATE-
But what about a Shape of Water-esque AU?
Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.
I haven’t really abandoned any fandom? o-O R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
When they’re not a couple and they’re just best friends, Locke and Luger I guess, they act like big dorks. I don't know, I don’t think about relationships much besides family ones.
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
Hmm, well, I feel while Locke doesn’t know what his main sexuality is right now, he’d feel he’d be in writing (sexuality)/Asexual, as he never really had sexual feelings, he only had sex in order to have his son, and he honestly never liked it all that much.
I also have a head canon that Steppenwolf is afraid of humiliation, or just making a fool of himself in social situations (he’s got a very well hidden social anxiety), so if he saw a bunch of people staring at him and whispering to each other, he’d instantly become worried about what he did.
Another head canon is that I love to imagine Sabre can swordfight very well, and the person who taught him is surprisingly Tobor. As he was very good with a sword and shield combo back in the day (before his injuries).
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
That Steppenwolf is a werewolf okay not really, I’m not really about strong head canons that I would ‘die defending’. I just like the thought of him being one because it’d be ironic for his name... and it’s just with me for so long man.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
Steppenwolf (Sonic Fandom I guess)- I still don't fully understand why I liked him, I simply did but nowadays I just find the character I made him an extremely interesting character and every time I’ve wrote something or drawn something to try and cheer myself up, it made me feel he’d be a very strong, protective and oddly supportive in his own way. I’m not sure. I’m weird.
Lapis Lazuli (Steven Universe Fandom)- I just want her to be happy, I find her really interesting, her powers are really cool and I just want to know how things turn out for her, it just sucks that she tends to disappear for long periods of time.
Angus (Night in the Woods)-He’s a bit underrated but he’s just so cute to me, especially with how others draw him, I love his character and I feel bad for him when he takes about his abusive childhood and issues growing up that made him who he is today, made me want to give him a big hug.
V - Which character do you relate to most?
Well, I feel I can relate to Angus at a few points, always feeling like I have to be the responsible one, being usually quiet and wanting to hide in corners in parties (and your friend that you stick to is your corner in those situations),
I also feel I can relate to Retsuko from Aggretsuko, always trying to keep calm and from losing my temper, also Mister Ton kind of reminds me of my dad at some points... and he can piss me off just as much as he does with Retsuko so yeah.
Part of me also feels like I relate to my version of Rembrandt, he’s an artist, he deals with a lot of emotional issues, he’s insecure about his body size/weight, very motherly/fatherly and protective.
I dunno.
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
Annoying characters that think they’re full of themselves and practically perfect while thinking everyone else is below them and everyone is unworthy of their ‘greatness’... or mary-sues.
Or just a needlessly dramatic moments or moments of anger and arguments that don’t need to happen.
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
Kind of the big strong protective one with a heart of gold and is very loving whether they show it or not, or big ass ones who are strong as hell but are really just gentle giants.
And probably monsters stuff like werewolves or stuff but sometimes that can backfire and become annoying.
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?
Team Fortress 2 is one, have a few friends who like that game while I don’t like it much anymore for personal reasons, some horror fandoms like Five Nights at Freddy’s, Little Nightmares all of that. Idk
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)
Umm... I always strive to make my Guardians unique in different situations, hell, I imagined they were in certain AU’s or in certain video game situations, like a fighting game, I’d like imagining like ‘finishing moves’ they’d have or the type of weapons they’d have, or even simple stuff like hobbies or favourite foods. Just stuff like that... and I will try everything in my power to be unique, like in my Gem AU, wanted all the gems to be different and at the least unique, and the same with the Monster AU, only Thunder and Steppe’s are the same but they have a difference.
Okay that’s enough. ^^; This was really difficult surprisingly.
