It’s also a reminder that contrary to the fairytale the public is being fed by many of these same sources, US politics and the GOP were far from bastions of decency and righteousness until the dastardly Donald Trump came along and messed everything up. It was Reagan, the Republican president most often cast these days as Trump’s polar opposite, who carried out something close to treason to win an election, before carrying out a host of other crimes and outrages as president. Everything in our scandal-filled times is, sadly, part and parcel of decades of US political tradition.

there’s a really interesting phenomenon going on that I've seen mostly on twitter in which people are pretending The Last Jedi and the other Sequel movies is and was always good, actually.

it seems to me as if there's a new consensus that the people who did and still do dislike that movie are those mad about Rey being a woman, Finn being a black man, etc, and while I'm a thousand-percent sure that's true, that some people hate that movie for stupid and bigoted reasons, it doesn't change the fact that The Last Jedi (and truly, the entire Sequel Trilogy) is just flat-out a bad movie.

All three of those films suffer hugely because all three are fundamentally different at a ground level. They are inherently disconnected in a way that a trilogy should not be, leaping from idea to idea that the next film inevitably squanders. There is no consistent storyline other than 'First Empire Bad'; there is barely any buildup to to the reveal of Palpatine, Kylo Ren as a character flip-flops between tortured badboy to Maybe Redemption Arc and back. It's not because he's conflicted, it's because everything is simply inconsistent.

Finn and Poe are done huge disgraces by the end of it all, Kylo Ren having been deemed more important and heroic than they are, and The Love Story is just terrible. The end of The Last Jedi sees Kylo Ren successfully assassinate Snoke, which is a pretty cool fucking thing to happen, but Rise of Skywalker squanders the aftermath of that idea with the rushed redemption.

These are movies that feel like each one was supposed to have its own subsequent trilogy; put together, they're a mess.

one piece fans shitting on the new episode and calling it over-hyped because there wasn't a ton of fighting just don't get it. and honestly it makes me wanna burn the entire shonen community to the ground so we can have a fresh start.

what makes gear 5 so crazy is how its the culmination of all of one piece's themes put into one power-up !! its about liberation and freedom and laughter !! if you don't understand the importance of those things then you just don't understand one piece. but no. anime fans don't give a shit about a good narrative. they only want to see cool fights and big boobs. and this episode didn't have a ton of either so it must be bad.

Nah but here's the REAL big marinler vibe from ep 9 okay. So back in the season where Mariner gets sent to SB80 Tendi makes a comment about Boimler "really losing his grip on reality when Mariner isn't around" right? And in this episode it might SEEM like inconsistent character writing to have William Boimler stop being a massive asshole loser and then like actually start behaving more like OG Boimler, but that's the thing!! William Boimler has been separated from Mariner!! Of COURSE he's been a massive asshole and ended up all cynical and burnt out!! This is consistent if you keep in mind that Mariner and Boimler are each other's anchor, or compass, or both. They need to be around each other regularly to keep themselves sane, help them remember why what they're doing matters, inspire each other to be better, to LIVE.

Romantic or platonic, this episode confirms that Mariner and Boimler very much should not be separated, they genuinely need each other, their friendship, relationship, whatever, is the key to the best versions of themselves.

I'm gonna miss this show so much, but with THIS set up I truly cannot wait to see the series finale <3

Kora Wolf & Zara Fairweather - a brief timeline

Aka, we got a lore dump on why these two hate each other, and now I'm (even more) obsessed with them.

Set 1: Cyrohime era, late teens. [they're just teenage nuisances who hate each other but end up very close. Era ended with a blood oath.]

Set 2: Dragonfly era, mid-20s. [when everything goes to shit, Wolf is first mate and Zara is navigator. Era ended with several murder attempts and a failed sacrificial murder that backfired terribly.]

Set 3: Captain era, 40s. [Both are captains in their own rights for ~20 years. Zara's captain era ended when Wolf has Rook kidnapped. Wolf's will end when Rook kills her.]

I've seen this quite a few times in the last day, but why is everyone saying the epilogue is 15-20 years later? I thought it was five years later, maybe ten at a stretch, but there's no way it's more than that.

Omega says something along the lines of now that she's an adult she can make this decision, which is exactly what someone who is newly an adult says to justify their choices. My guess is she's 17 or 18 here. I could maybe believe she's 20 but not older than that.

Also, Hunter isn't nearly old enough for this to take place more than five or ten years later. If this was 15 years later that would put it firmly in the Rebels timeline which means Hunter should look like Rex and Gregor and Wolffe but he doesn't. He's noticeably younger, despite the stoop and the limp.

I mean, headcanon what you will until we have confirmation otherwise, but it seems like everyone is taking it as fact already that this is so much later than the rest of the show.
