Differences between the models from Sonic 2 and the Knuckles Show Masterpost!

I'm sure there are more but these are just what I've noticed so far...

(Also, this is kind of hard for Sonic and Tails because we don't see them much, but I'll do my best)

Okay, first...

Textures

For the most part, they're less furry.

Comparing these you can see that the fur around his muzzle is shorter or at least not as well defined. This is true for the rest of them as well. Everyone looks "smoothed out," especially around the face.

Another example...

You can see the fur around his ears is actually less fuzzy, and the triangle shape of the inside of his ears is more obvious. (Almost like he got a trim or something haha.) This is true for Sonic as well, especially the ear definition bit. Tails' cheek fluff is also more shapely and long, evoking his game design more. His forehead tufts now face slightly different directions instead of all pointing right.

This goes for Knuckles' chest pattern too...

The shape is SO much fuzzier in the movie.

His body fur is also less voluminous in the show (likely the cause of the aforementioned definition.) I think this goes for everyone else too (Except for Tails maybe, I can't really tell since we can't see his body that well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.)

Another one...

They got rid of his nosebridge pattern. The delineation between his muzzle and head color is much clearer. (You can also see the muzzle fur and ear change here.) I'm actually kinda sad about this one :( It was one of my favorite parts of his design. It could be due to the fur shortening and just for the show, but I'm not sure... :/

Exceptions

Tails' tails actually appear to be MORE fluffy.

and Sonic's chest fur is WAY fluffier

If I had to guess, I'd say most of these changes were made to cut down on rendering time. Switching out the movie's "denser" textures for these "lighter" ones cuts down on the budget without sacrificing the looks. Very smart, very smart. (Obviously, I don't know for sure that they did this, I'm just guessing based off of the differences.)

Structure Changes

Here are some things I noticed about how the bones of the models have changed (meaning not due to textures) (It's mostly Sonic lol.)

From the images above you can see that Sonic's shoulders are broader and his arms are thicker. His upper chest area is now more prominent, giving him a body shape closer to a "V" than the rounder "0" Sonic from Movie 2. It's really obvious in the second picture.

His quills also don't start on his upper forehead anymore, now beginning further back. His quills also appear to be thinner. They blend in with his fur more than before. (See below.)

He also emotes differently. His face rig must have changed with his model, because when he furrows his brow the way pictured above his face wrinkles like 3x more than before, haha (I hope that doesn't stick around, it's kind of weird to look at lol.) Actually, now that I think about it, it might just look that way because the show's less voluminous fur is not hiding it as much.

Yeah, that's definitely why haha. You can actually see the indents of the same crease placements in the movie model.

Also, is Tails taller?!?!? He sure looks taller here! But it could be a case of forced perspective since we can't see their whole bodies.

Knuckles' eyes are very different. I don't think the other's eyes are different, but we see them for like two seconds from afar so...¯\_(._.)_/¯

Also, I might just be imagining this, but it looks like everyone has more "neck" than before. Weird sentence, I know. You can kinda see what I mean here...If this is the case, it was likely done so posing is easier for the animators.

And generally, everyone is at least twice as vibrant, especially Sonic! Just look at the comparisons. My boys are G.L.O.W.I.N.G! Beautiful!

All three of the minis still had their own unique expression of frozen shock when Frenzy finally went silent, leaving you to sit awkwardly across from them at the breakfast table. Soundwave knelt at your side, his demeanour tense but supportive as the quiet continued for several agonizing moments. It was Laserbeak that found his voice first, shaking his helm as if he was trying to process the information but simply couldn't. "How's that even possible?!"

"You're WHHHAAAAAATTTT?!"

Even without utilizing her sonic scream, Frenzy had the walls shaking for the entirety of her outburst, though such a reaction was more or less what you'd expected given the news you and Soundwave had just dropped.

"From the look of it, I'm due in seven months." you answered simply, unwilling to admit that was a guess at best. Based on your symptom you could reasonably estimate you were about two months in, but there was no way to know if this was going to proceed like a normal pregnancy, and it wasn't like you could swing by a doctor's office for answers. Soundwave settled his claws on your shoulder in a gesture of support.

"Known phenomenon. Scattered historical records." Soundwave answered for you, his explanation only somewhat shorter now than what he'd given you when everything had come to light. He'd also been able to translate and show you some of the texts describing the process, which included an explanation as to how Cybertronian gametes could "read" the genetic information of other species and interpret it to match their own anatomy, allowing for reproduction between vastly different beings. The little one within you now would be fully Cybertronian, but still related to you thanks to the wonders of alien biology. You wondered briefly what features of your own might be recognizable; your smile, the shape of your eyes, the proportions of your limbs...

"Well... When's the little one gonna get here?" Laserbeak continued as the others remained silent. Ravage was tense in his chair, optics narrow and audials pinned back in deep thought whilst Frenzy still found herself incapable of getting her jaw off the floor.

Giving the minis a date seemed to make the news that much more real, and the three exchanged looks, silently discussing their feelings on the matter with expressions alone. Too many emotions passed between them for you to identify even a fraction, but you caught a considerable amount of uncertainty from all three, which we to be expected. Frenzy finally spoke for the group, crossing her arms as if she was seated at a negotiating table as she tilted her helm for a pointed question. "Are we gonna have to share a room with them? It's already pretty crowded with the three of us."

"Search for more spacious dwelling; initiated." Soundwave replied quickly. The question was one the two of you had asked yourselves, and though searching presented its own dangers, you had concluded it would be far from ideal to have a growing family in this crowded bunker. In a mere month your mate had crossed hundreds of miles in his search, and the list of new potential homes grew each time he returned. Said information was relayed to the minis in a succinct summation of his activities. "Several possible locations located. Scouting to continue."

Hearing of a new home caught the interest of all three, an understandable reaction considering their limited space at present, and also seemed to turn some of their surprise to anticipation.

"Well, if we can get somewhere with a little more elbow room... I'm on board." Frenzy said as she returned to her more casual sitting posture, looking more open to the idea now that she had some time to process and could imagine the fun that might come if it. Seeing a smile pull on her lips gave you a great deal of comfort, and you felt your shoulder relax in Soundwave's grasp. The music loving femme tapped her chin as she pondered the possibilities. "Something beachside would be pretty tight."

Matching her energy, Laserbeak added his own two cents, equally excited at the prospect of moving from their cramped abode. "I could go for something up in the mountains, nice to have open air under the wings."

You prepared to reply with a list of the places Soundwave had scouted, but Frenzy scoffed at Laserbeak's suggestion before you could speak, returning to her old self with impressive speed. "Boring! How are we gonna have fun in the middle of the woods?"

"If the bitlet ends up flying, where else am I gonna show them the ropes?" he replied, holding up his wings like hands in his exasperation.

The comment took you pleasantly by surprise. Moments ago they'd been so shocked you couldn't really tell if they were at all on board with the new family member, but Laserbeak was already planning for including the little one, and Frenzy made it clear she was doing the same with her retort.

"How can I take them to rock concerts if there aren't any?" she asked in equal exasperation, making you smile at how she was also planning for their future sibling. You were confident now their initial reaction had been purely one of shock, and now that it had faded they were all proving more than amenable to the idea of a little brother or sister.

"They can fly there!" Laserbeak replied as the silly argument intensified, the two minis squabbling over the best places to live for the sake of their interests as well as their future sibling. Ravage remained removed from the entire discussion, but you found his posture far more relaxed, and when his gaze met your own for a second time he was far from displeased. The Felicon looked to you for a moment of consideration before giving a nod, his way of indicating that he too was fine with this most unexpected turn of events. You nodded back in appreciation. This little one may have been unplanned, but they would be anything but unloved.

"Arguments unhelpful." Soundwave sighed as the petty squabble grew lightly physical, juvenile slaps being traded by Frenzy and Laserbeak as they debated whose idea for a new location was "obviously" superior to the others. You chuckled lightly and gave his servo a pat, certain this chaos would hardly compare to what your little family would be dealing with in just a few short months.

Thinking about Dread again.

Was going through my saved images and came across these, from the third season.

My deranged beloved has become a sad little meow meow.

So pensive. So frustrated. So defeated.

(My favorite image of him in this scene. I love that pose, it's so natural and conveys so much about his mental and emotional state.)

I still think the way they handled his 'redemption' completely missed the mark, and could have been done much better had they planted a few seeds to begin with. But the pacing of the whole series felt so odd, and I wonder if they had something different planned before Netflix (possibly) cut their time shorter.

(For the record, I think that's part of the problem with the Knuckles series. It felt like there should have been more in that, but Paramount told them they only had 6 eps to do what they wanted in 12.)

But Dread? My beloved little gremlin of a pirate? Oh, he had so much potential. He could have been this wild card, this character who continued to be him despite everything, who was so anti-Knuckles it was entertaining and fun and just a joy to watch him have so much fun being a bastard.

I get that they couldn't keep a Knuckles as an absolute asshole, but watching this delightful character go from this

without seeing anything in between was jarring. The last we saw of Dread before season 3 started was him fighting with Ren as Sonic and Nine took the shards away. He was enraged to have lost his Beauty. Again. We have no idea what happened after that, but this descent into depression seemed sudden and out of character.

But considering how he behaved after his first loss of the shard (when he lost his first ship and crew), maybe this isn't that much of a stretch. He ran before, jumping nose first into denial, and tried to cover his feelings of defeat by being a party pirate. Now his Beauty is lost once again, and he's in a strange city, on another planet (in another universe!) and has made himself at odds with the people there. (With his other him.) He couldn't even contact his crew because he'd turned on them before leaving.

So here's Dread, completely out of his element, the one thing he'd lusted after his entire life gone. It would figure that he'd maybe have a bit of Ren's depressive state, and fall into a "What's the point? What I want always seems to be just out of reach. I'll never have my one true desire." mindset.

And maybe, since the shards were all gone, he's feeling some kind of mental shift. I've theorized that the shard's energy was what made Dread so batshit, and now that it's gone, maybe he's starting to think a little more clearly than he'd ever done before. Instead of that drive to "FIND HAVE KEEP" that gem, he's feeling like a failure for not being able to fulfill that quest. That duty. Because maybe to him, it didn't feel like the normal greed of pirate plunder, the urge to just take and steal and collect as much booty as possible. Maybe to him, because he's a Knuckles and they're hard wired to protect, it was something more personal.

That shard, according to his instincts, was his to protect. And now that it's gone, he's a failure and feels empty. He's coming down off that energy, the inexplicable hold the shard held over him, and is essentially going through a withdrawal of sorts, and dealing with the possibly conflicting emotions it dredged up.

There was so much potential for him. And the writers wasted it, by having him simply join in on the attack on Nine without examining his (very likely) ulterior motives. I don't like that they used that Jack character to draw Dread's selfish desires back out - those should have still been there! The whole agreement to join in should have been a plot to simply get him near his Beauty so he could pull a double cross.

This made it seem like Dread didn't even think about his Beauty during the whole battle. WHAT?? Being near it should have made him almost feral with the want to get to it. I would have loved to have seen him be another obstacle to the shard, so the heroes didn't only have to deal with Nine and his endless army of bots, but also this deranged pirate who was overcome with treasure lust.

Missed opportunity.

Ah well.

My beloved. Dread is possibly my absolutely favorite variant of Knuckles. I just love him.

Sonic being a hugger in this show would normally just be an unexpected but cute detail, but gosh. he really misses his friends, doesn't he

The first one with Big was normal because he didn't know about the alternate universe stuff yet, but the group hug was entirely him just, being overjoyed that he had found them all. Even though he knows they're not really "his" friends.

And then with Knuckles and Rouge, it was more of a quick hug of relief that they were okay - I wonder if it being so much shorter was because he remembered they didn't like the group hug? Or was this just instinctual all around?

Whatever the reason, the hugs in general seem to get progressively shorter until he reaches the pirate world and he just... stops.

Probably a sensible move, he shouldn't actually be going around hugging strangers, but I couldn't help but notice something on a rewatch:

Dread and Black Rose are both more physically affectionate with Sonic than anyone in the last two worlds were, and yet. he makes no move to return their shoulder-hugs.

Sonic the Hedgehog, who jumped at the chance to hug alternate versions of his friends who don't know him three times over, finally gets to be on the receiving end and suddenly he doesn't take the opportunity to hug them back??

I don't know if this pattern will continue in future episodes, but something about the notion that Sonic's stopped giving hugs even when offered them gets to me. It might not even be that serious, it's probably just a sign that he's adjusting to not knowing his AU friends that well - but now that I've noticed it I'm gonna keep thinking about it for days

They're all the same moves, but manga Saitama didn't allow it to draw out any further after the Flashy Fist unlike wc Saitama. Am I reaching it or does Saitama have lingering feelings on how he shouldn't draw out a fight as much as possible?

Sonic stopped at 3'9" around his twentieth birthday, ending his ironically slow growth rate with a short king certification as he happens to be just a couple inches shorter than most mobians his age . At 23 going 24 around his visit to Starfall Islands . His legs make the most of his height compared to his trunk, agile and hypermobile as they could ever be, with unbelievably sturdy joints, ligaments & muscles that keep up with his otherworldly speed . The rest of his body isn't any different, and almost everything ( but especially the legs ) is marked by myriads of scars which can sometimes be spotted in areas where his fur lacks thickness ( or where it simply doesn't grow anymore, like hypertrophic and fibrous tissue. ), they're various in shape, his body having been violated in all sorts of ways throughout years of battle & months of torture . He doesn't mind them, and he tends well to his fur & quills, the plush cerulean blue going inky & darker at every tip and every quill, the almond being shorter and more velvety on his chest and arms, the fur is lightweight but prone to hold water ( which he greatly despises ) . His quills do not frame or crown his head like Shadow's or Silver's, instead they're swept back by the constant exposure to wind from his running . His vitals are insane, resting heart rate approximates 450 bpm, respiratory rate isn't any less overwhelming, resting at ~90 bpm, the constant rush of blood & the hyperactivity of his muscles earn him chronic elevated body heat, like a severe case of fever to the touch . His irises pale emerald green that turns richer in the centers . His canines are longer & sharper on both jaws . ( Think Adventure 1 )

Always seen wearing his gloves, one cuff hides the bracelet given to him by Chip, the other hides the Crystal Ring ( It's merely for cosmetics here . Painfully similar to the bracelets of ancient Echidnas, it often reminds him of Tikal . )

New Rehabilitation Patients - Five Month Aftermath

Current changes:

Niko/Sonic

Working on physical therapy to conquer his Tachophobia and get back to running.

Got eye surgery to fix his damaged eyesight.

Didn't want to lose the bangs early on, but they were too big so they were cut much shorter as a compromise.

Sonic never got back to eating chili dogs as his favorite food. And that's fine by him (cinammon rolls are so much better).

Sonic is personally in Occupational Therapy in an effort to fix all of that anxiety that was forced upon him.

Kyle/Tails

Ever since Tails began to eat more healthy, his fur began to appear a lot more softer and plush than way before.

Tails does a little flight training using his tails. He thankfully still knows how to fly previously, it's just that he wasn't able to.

Tails tried to return to engineering, but found that his new passion was becoming writing, so he stuck with that. He does still enjoy engineering, but it's no longer the only thing he does.

Rose/Cami/Amy

Amy's discuise had never come off, mainly due to all of the enchantments, but she honestly doesn't mind. It's a good look for her.

Amy sometimes does physical therapy with Sonic, but most of the time she doesn't.

Amy is the only member of the trauma siblings to not be severely traumatized I some capacity... Except for one case.

Amy is in grief counseling for obvious reasons.

Damien/Shadow

Probably put under the more extensive treatment out of everyone. Shadow still had his old and new past clashing to the point that they had to deal with both traumas.

It took a good two months to begin to erase Starline's programmed in fake memories, but they do have the tendency to show up under very high stress.

Shadow was instructed to keep his body relaxed and try smiling when he genuinely means it. Since then, his ears and mouth position have remained mainly looking on-edge despite not actually being so.

Shadow also got surgery for his eyes, with the accidental side effect of them lighting up green when he uses chaos energy.

Shadow is undergoing magic therapy despite usually claiming he doesn't need it.

Collective Group

Whether they want to believe it or not, their attachment to Starline lingers, despite him being dead.

There have been a few cases of auditory or visual hallucinations of Starline in the facility, but never both at the same time. Usually it's his voice or the platypus staring at them from the open door or over them when they're trying to sleep... It leads to a lot of panic attacks.

All of them are in therapy.

Sonic Unleashed is overrated (within the fandom, at least). People always say that the game is 50% Daytime stages and 50% werehog, but it feels more like 75% Werehog and 25% Daytime. Yes, the Daytime stages are fast and they feel exhilarating to run through, but their speed also makes them way shorter compared to the werehog stages. I can never really appreciate the Daytime stages because of how quickly they're over with, and then it's not long before I'm thrust into drawn out tedious combat. If the game was all Daytime stages, the levels being fast but feeling rather short would be more forgivable.

I know people have come to the Werehog's defense in recent years, but it really had no reason to exist and only brought down what could've been a great game. It should go without saying that most people play Sonic games for Sonic's gameplay. So Sega putting a new, significantly slower gameplay style in Unleashed so soon after 06 was not the best move, and it just angered people more. The game's story is nothing to write home about, either.

Also, this is just a minor nitpick: the amount of motion blur bothers my eyes. I'm glad they toned it down in Generations.

Unleashed didn't deserve to be torn to shreds by critics when it released and rated lower than 06 by some, but it's not one of the best Sonic games.

Can I get a summary of the Live & Learn AU?

Maybe a doodle/diagram explaining who's kid is who's for people just discovering the AU?

Oooh I'll try to explain myself as best as I can!!

So, very short explanation: it's just a future au. The characters are grown up and we follow them into their adult life. It's also very fankid heavy.

As of right now I divide the story in three acts:

The era when the fankids are actual children. From the time the first one is born (I think the oldest one is Lash? I don't have their birthdays memorized, but they're in the character charts) to what I've been calling 'the incident', which is the event in which Sonic loses both his leg and his hand. This is the lightest of the acts, as is mostly just homey family stuff?? It ends with what's probably the most angsty moment in this whole story, but everything before it is mostly just fun shenanigans about these grown up characters and their families.

The second act consists of everything that comes after the incident. This one is more angsty, and also covers a shorter period of time. This one also brings Sage more into focus, as she is the main villain in this story.

The third act kicks off with Emmie getting hurt while being away from her parents. I still haven't detailed how or why this happens, mostly because I want to reveal the incident first (which I promise, is on the works, it's just been slow). This act is the least developed, since is the latest adition to the story, but I guess you could call it the 'end' of the story (even if the characters' lifes continue after this??? and like the au is about these characters??? idk).

The first one is Emmie!! She's the main girlie, and she's Sonic and Shadow's daughter.

Then there's Sparks, Amy and Blaze's older child.

Then comes Lash, the problem kid, daughter of Scourge and Fiona (also worth mentioning her younger siblings, Strike and Decay, but these two are mostly additions to Lash's character, rather than characters on their own).

There's Aim, the son of Tangle and Whisper.

Also Bria!! Kid of my rare ship, Sonia and Mina.

Blaze and Amy's younger kid, Tulip.

The one and only digital girlie, Destiny, daughter of Sally and Nicole!!

And last but not least, Spades, child of Silver and Espio!!!

E-100 series robots (& Metal Sonic) as birds - a 🧵

(And I do mean HC:ing them "as birds" - not talking about flicky battery stuff)

E-102 Gamma: Great blue heron (Ardea herodias)*

1-1.4m (wingspan: 1.7-2m), 1.8-3.6kg

The first bunch of E-series give major heron/stork to me, with their lanky statures, long & prominent bird feet and specialist roles. (See; herons' fishing tactics with their precise strikes!)

Although, cranes (Grus grus) relay the same energy as well, with bonus red details.

E-123 Omega: Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)*

1-1.5m (wingspan: 2-2.3m), 2-5kg

Pelicans are generally shorter and definitely heavier & stockier than their distant relatives (see above) with greater wingspan/height ratio. (Those shoulders!!) Pelicans are kind of infamous for being absolutely unhinged with their generalist & opportunistic builds. They would eat you if it was possible (not from lack of trying) so they get the intimidation factor as well! <3

Look at this (more or less) majestic specimen

(The brown pelican is the smallest pelican species, there being way heavier species (up to 13kg), but I chose this one for the most fitting color scheme mostly.)

There's another species that's a good candidate for Omega, but another robot contender simply fits the bill (pun intended) better:

NEO Metal Sonic: Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)*

1.1-1.5m (wingspan 2.3-2.6m), 4-7kg

Need I say more?

I say NEO specifically, because these birds are huge and actually way taller than what base-form Metal even would be irl. They prance around and are known to make a lot of noise with their bills especially. (NEO being the form of Metal that speaks). So, yeah: NEO Metal. I'd argue they have Metal Overlord aesthetics as well.

Meanwhile for Metal's base form:

Metal Sonic: Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus)

speed: 320km/h

Naturally; It's the fastest animal which zooms in the skies. ("What would Sonic be then since he's faster?" Bro idk, he's a hedgehog.😐) They're yet another bird of pray, although, more evidently deadly than the ~piscivore species on this list (look at those claws). They've also got this cute-factor that fits that side of Metal, with the dark eyes, making them seem kind of sad:

Lesser known, the corpse-eating court of Malcarum, the Essengast. They began as a hunting lodge of affluent nobles, searching the wilderness of the pleasure world for rare game creatures and bragging around great fires as servants prepared a banquet following each hunt.

Eventually, war came to the system. Malcarum was forced to industrialize quickly. Great hive cities rose, poisoning the water, polluting the atmosphere, and collapsing the ecosystem.

But the hunts continued.

First, it was the megafauna of the underhives, sump-kroks, and spiders the size of tanks. Then, the mutants, the parodies of humanity that fled down-hive rather than accept judgment. Eventually, the lower hives became the hunting ground. They began to hunt the people of Malcarum.

Somewhere along the line, the banquets stopped being enough for them. They would eat until they were forced to purge, then eat some more. Then, the purging slowly vanished. Now, they never had quite enough. They would still be hungry when the embers smoldered in the pits. The hunger continued, compounding until they felt on the brink of starvation, nothing able to satisfy their excessive appetites. They began to kill indiscriminately, consuming the flesh of their victims without pause. Reports indicate they stopped intentionally killing altogether, preferring to track their prey and devour them alive wherever they fell.

The Sisters of the Vermillion Flame are said to have led the cleansing of Malcarum. By then, the nobles had devolved into mobs of twisted ghouls, their pale, corpse-like flesh stretched taut over their emaciated frames, their bones growing disproportionate to their bodies, spines erupting through the skin.

Their apparent extinction has not stopped the reports of small, bestial humanoids attacking people across the sector, though no substantial proof has ever been offered up.

I wrote this as a bit of justification to incorporate a handful of Flesheater Courts models into my fledgling Slaanesh Daemon army. I wanted to go for a bit of a cryptid feel, but I think I lost the plot a bit and missed the mark on that one.

If you like this story and want to create them yourself, great news! They're really simple. Just take Flesheater Court Ghouls, raise them slightly off the base (for height, they're slightly shorter than daemonettes), and paint them as if they were Slaanesh Daemons. If you're feeling really fancy, mix up a little green stuff, stand them up straight(ish), and sculpt in a distended stomach as if they've been eating recently and haven't digested anything yet. I'm trying to use Wrack weapons to add blades to the bones they carry and potentially some Kroot character dressing (they carry slabs of meat and knives carved from bone) to flesh them out a bit, pun intended.

Been thinking,, Tails is probably small

Like, we don't know exactly what happened on Westside, but a lone 4 year old probably isn't a stranger to some form of food scarcity, no matter how smart he is. We also have no clue how long he was on his own before he met sonic and had a somewhat consistent eating schedule,,, no reference of when mobians typically begin eating solids or any developmental milestones. A few consistent fan hc are that he was just completely alone (neglect, parental death, abandonment, etc.), or that he ran from mistreatment (orphanage, family, etc.). In multiple cannons he's implied to live in the forest or be completely alone, independent of a village. That wouldn't be so strange as it seems a lot of kids hit it out on their own, but again, he's usually 4 ish when they meet, and from the way he acts, he's been alone for a while. The toddler years are very important developmentally, and kids who go hungry at this point tend to lag behind their peers for the rest of their lives. It messes with physical development like height and weight regulation, can contribute to cronic illnesses and blood pressure, and often effects behavior and anxiety levels.

Even after he meets sonic and gets taken under his wing, we don't know how stable of a diet these two crime fighting street kids could maintain. I remember a wonderful post breaking down the portrayal of food instability in AoStH, while I can't seem to find it, I remember they mentioned tails specifically showing a lot of signs of food hoarding and over eating, and the OPs own experience with these traits as a result of childhood hunger.

..Y'know, sonics probably in the same boat,, they both probably have to eat more than the average person because of the amount of calories they burn running,,, and while we don't know exactly what sonic delt with in game cannon, I know theres a few different examples in comic and show cannons. Unfortunately I never read any comics and I've only really watched 1/2 of AoStH so that's where my sonic knowledge ends, but I'm sure it varies.

There's also the issue that we have no clue how tall they're supposed to be,,, at their current age AND when they grow up. Like, shadow, amy, and sonic all seem to be around the same height rn (~100 cm / ~3 ft 3 in, Amy's a little shorter at 90 cm / 2 ft 11 in, but she's also a few years younger), so maybe sonic is on the right track, but do we know if they're supposed to get taller? Like adults in the sonic universe are wildly inconsistent from cannon to cannon??? Like, Vanilla is ~25 (age varies sometimes) and is approximately 130 cm (4 ft 3 in) while Vector is 20 yo and 180 cm (5 ft 11 in), and Big is 18 yo and 200 cm (6 ft 6 in). In Sonic Underground, Queen Aleena, his mother, was ~50 yo and ranges from source to source, but apparently is around 130-145 cm (4 ft 3in - 4 ft 9 in) while comic heights for other adults or parents are harder to track, but seem like they tap out around where the kids are now. So is height relative to species? Maybe?? Big is bigger than vector, and yeah, his name is big, that's kinda implied, but is he just an outlier or is that normal?? storm the albatross is 19 and just a little taller than vanilla at 140 cm (4 ft 7 in) but albatross' are fuckin massive compared to rabbits and cats so maybe species does play a part in height?? But also charmy and cream are the exact same age and height at 6 yo and 70 cm (2 ft 3in) ?? OK, wild, cool, whatever it's bringing logic into a fun world of brightly-colored cartoons and that's not always applicable, but I still think these mfs should be short.

I think tails should realistically be a behind in height, and prolly will stay that way, I think sonic should be shorter too tbh. With the early childhood hunger and intense world ending stress they have now, these kids should not be growing rip them

So hc that both sonic and tails are shorter than they should be, but Tails is, like, borderline concerningly small because of his EXTENSIVE history of stress, abuse, and hunger, AND as a result of that that he's kinda skittish and gets sick more often than kids his age should prolly

i need to start using this blog so!!! i just wanna give some details about small design choices ive made (in this case, for sonic, shadow + ratchet):

in canon, sonic and shadow are the same height. even if i prefer shadow being shorter, i do understand this is because they're meant to be two sides of the same coin, which is sort of why i did this with sonic and ratchet but with a minor difference because like. theyre from completely different series (it shouldnt be quite so noticable tho i need to rework this sheet lol). idk how to explain that.

meanwhile shadow is noticably shorter than sonic because she's not compatable. i'm still somewhat unsure in what way shadow is aroace in this au and she is too, but they certainly aren't dating (in the au, she's sort of questioning, but this isn't a spoiler because i specifically want to steer clear of making her story heavily identity-focused, seeing as that is explored in canon a lot)
