Topic- being trans/queer in the marauders fandom

There is so much hate going on, especially on tiktok and instagram rn. From my experience we're reletively alright here on tumblr but it still needs to be adressed.

The marauders fandom is for those who are pushed to the side. That goes for poc, ppl of the lgbt community, or anyone of a marginalized community.

We saw the hate from the creator of this world, took that, and turned this world into an inclusive space for character fan cannons/fics to roll with and made sure that fans felt like they had a safe space to go.

After all, James Potter-and parents- are known for "picking up the strays". The marauders themselves symbolize Found Family along with the skittles and The Golden Trio. Finding a space and the people in that space who will love you for being yourself regardless of the people who didnt (especially those who didnt and were supposed to).

I have found safety expressing my Sexuality here. I looked at some of the characters like remus and luna be so loved by their friends regardless of who they are, what they're interests are, and how they act, and realized that I deserve to have people around me who will accept me for me. That I am not too much. That I am enough. That I am deserving of everything good I want for my life. And because of the safety and love I have felt here, I only saw it fit to pour back into it because thats what we do for each other here.

No we dont all agree on things. Everyone has their own ships, their own headcannons, and thats okay. We can agree to disagree on things like this, and at the end of the day we will always have eachothers backs because we know what it is to be thrown to the side and no one should have fo feel like that.

Right now, I am seeing an obscene amount of transphobia, racism, and homophobia in the Harry Potter/ Marauders community, and it's devastating. People are being publically dead named right now because of headcannon disagreements. What the actual fuck?? Or I've seen some ppl go insane bc some ppl headcannon James Potter as mexican or desi. And some people headcannon sirius/remus/regulus as trans, and they are getting shit on too. What???

Do we not remember that we are talking about FICTIONAL CHARACTERS??? And that the marauders fandom makes fanfics... again. FAN... FICS. They are not cannon. Sometimes they arent supposed to be even close to cannon. It is fan based. Interpretations and expressions of said characters and story line. Dont like it? Turn the other way and find people, blogs, videos, stories, and headcannons that you DO like!

As for the treatment of other fellow fans here, im truly devastated about it. Trans people do NOT deserve this kind of treatment, especially here! Especially since this fandom is based on inclusivity, acceptance, and found family.

Whats even worse is the ppl who say Fuck JKR and hide behind that while STILL continuing to act against the lgbt community, marginalized groups, and other fellow marauder fans. You know who you are. Do better.

The world is already a scary place, and a scarier place for trans folk. With Tr!mp in office here in the states, its even scarier to see all of the excessive hate on my community and seeing less and less safe places available for both queer and trans people.

The safe places that trans people have are sacred, and thats how it should be here too

Forgetting the fact that marauders was during the 70s-80s (again the world is literally made up, logical time and the beliefs at that time dont have to follow), would James potter truly be a person to turn away a friend for being queer or trans. Think about it. Ill wait. Oh wait, I don't have to, because NO. NO HE WOULDNT! He found out Remus was a werewolf, a literal XXXXX creature that can brutily kill people one night of the month, and james said "yes, I accept him. And because of my friendship to him, I will research and go through the process of becoming an animagus because I care for my friend and he doesnt deserve to be alone." As did sirius and peter in the end.

Be more like James Potter. It is not difficult to respect people. Respect your fellow marauders & hp fans. Keep this a safe place for them, and all.

i imagine that you would try some different types of water with him, by his request, and tried your dam best to find a difference.

but he would also get you any kind of drink, dessert or food you´d like

all in all its pretty easy bonding with him, and he just likes being beside you and spending time with you

he would take you to a quiet cafe where you could sit in peace, since he doesn´t like loud places and want you two to be alone for the most part

he would pay 100% he doesn't even give you a chance to try and pay for anything (he´s nice when he wants to be)

he definitely brought a book with him to read(+ one for you) and would either let you talk while he reads a "little", or he would just read out loud so you know what kind of books he likes

he´s not good at doing any kind of romantic things, but he did try and do something

that including:

taking you out on the date later in the evening so he later could show you the stars, and point out some constellations

asking your friends (and maybe family) what you like food-wise, so he knows what kind of place he should have in mind when picking the place of your date

How to deal w a longtime friend that at some point became a radfem? I was bad at recognising it back then when there were clear signs and didnt know how to argue, so i stayed passive and argeeable, esp since im a nonbinary guy n shes a (sorta questioning) cis girl.

When i showed discomfort with her doing the "i hate all men" type stuff she's said "omg you're not one of those 'not all men' types" and bc i didnt know at the time i backed off, n she also mentioned how she sees/treats both trans men n cis men the same

I mean ive always felt like she's treated me that way, or that i felt like i needed to stay silent or had more priviledge when around her, despite being pre-everything and pr much closeted in my everyday life, or felt more like i was a binary man around her when im not

She has also been sorta weirdly sex/kink negative or made fun of it, for some time i figured that it was just a bit bc of her being sex repulsed n her being immature, but i still felt sorta more ashamed regarding my kinkiness/sexuality around her when not (were both on the aroace spectrum, though i figured out more recently)

Also parroting radfem rhetoric about "well the sex industry is harmful" (..every capitalistic industry is harmful) and when mentioning kinks/fetishes for some reason often brought up "but what about those kinks where people get off to women starving themselves/having problems w their weight" which is like?? Yea okay if they are doing that to real people thats bad but like what kink/fetish spaces do you hang out in where that would be the first thing you'd bring up??

I also once remember her mentioning that she felt weird about her own connection to masculinity, which i sussed and esp now sus might be due to her being this man-hating

She's told me "you don't have an issue w the 'man vs bear' thing since you're a guy right?" but i didnt feel like arguing at that time so i just agreed and quickly moved onto another subject

Looking back at older texts, she's also said before that im "one of the few men she actually respects"

I've realised how harmful and bull radfem rhetoric is now, n i want to keep a distance from her, but idk how to deal w it bc ive always been the more agreeable and peace-keeping one between us

whenever i talk about transmasculine and trans male issues, i get those "oh you're one of those not all men types" as well. it's such a useless thing to say. like if the thing you're opposing is people making blanket statements about women and being treated like a monolith, why are you doing it to someone else? that's the example you're setting, but yet you expect different treatment? double standard.

the sex & kink negativity in radfeminism is exhausting, too. it's not progressive. a lot of people choose to go into sex work and enjoy it. some don't mind it. some are okay with that being their job. a lot of people are exploited, but not everyone is. like you said, it's the capitalist corruption of these industry that causes problems. like you said, people instantly jump to the worst possible conclusion when the subject of kink comes up

the normal song and dance is "men who are into BDSM are only straight guys who are misogynistic and want to beat women. women who are into BDSM are scared and confused and being taken advantage of and are enabling abusive men." they have very few arguments and they're all so far out of left field that it's not relevant to the type of conversation you're having in that moment. making blanket statements about all kinky people being abusive in some way... that's profiling.

at this point its your choice if you continue to interact with her. if you do, you are allowed to stand your ground and tell her that those kinds of things make you very uncomfortable and that it's just not okay. if she can't handle that, then it's not your job to try to change her mind. if she cares about you, she'll treat you with respect. i hope that's the case, but you don't owe time or energy to people who treat you like garbage. good luck, stay safe

I'm a trans guy but I haven't transitioned at all, and I don't know if I will. So it makes me very happy to see Vash looking slightly more androgynous (even if he's further along in transition than me).

With Wolfwood, I love how he's hairy and beefy and everything. Trans men deserve to be depicted that way too! It's inspiring. Always a delight to see.

I love how Meryl is a smaller, petite trans woman while Milly is tall and buff and slightly hairy. But they are both just as much of women. There's affection in how they're drawn. Love them so much.

I really *really* appreciate the trans woman inclusion you show. it goes far beyond saying "trans women are women" and makes me feel safe. For a short period after I learned you and your girlfriend were probably cis i got worried about getting surprised by transphobia from you on my dash (tho not terfism per se bc of interacting with cis men) but It brings me joy every time i see it come up and get confirmation that one of my favorite blogs to lurk every time.

Hey! I notice you talk a lot about the discourse in the hellaverse fandom and i really like your explanations so i wanted to ask for your opinion on something?

Do you also get frustrated by how many people act like viv is responsibly for every single shortcoming of the hellaverse? It’s like nothing can even be slightly flawed without it being her fault somehow.

People act like she’s the sole writer for both shows and that whenever there’s a flaw, it’s her fault. There are multiple writers but i have ONLY ever seen criticism on her. Weird

When people dislike the merch, it’s her fault, when there’s complications with shipping merch it’s her fault, when something weird happens with fans it’s her fault, etc etc.

Queer women cannot exist on the internet without scrutiny. And i know what people are gonna say, they’re gonna list out every weird thing she’s ever done in the past and then tell me how it’s actually okay to harass people involved in the hellaverse because of this.

Regarding her past actions, i mean i just dont really think about it when i watch either show? Im not a twitter user, never will be again, so i dont even see half of any new drama. I just really dont care. maybe she’s been unprofessional before i can admit that but people have gone a bit too far. I cannot stand the Viv hate, because literally all arguments I've seen against her all fall under either one of these three categories: 1. mistakes she's made in the past but has learned from, 2. painfully obviously fake "evidence" and 3. things she didn't even do/had no control over (because like you said she's not the only one working on these shows).

An example for one of the most recent dramas with the Valentine's merch, I've legit seen haters attack Viv for FANART of the merch, thinking it was official merch. Aka, they just keep proving over and over again how quickly they are to blindly believe anything as long as it supports their "agenda". And Viv also had to clarify she wanted Angel included, but didn't have the final say, yet Viv is the only one getting attacked for Angel being absent.

Like, obviously I don't expect everyone to like her as a person, because sometimes we just don't vibe with people even if you like their work (though, most Viv haters use hating her work as an excuse to personally hate her, too). But it's the arguments people use on "why" that make it impossible for me to take them seriously, because so much of it just comes down to (internalized) misogyny and queerphobia. On top of her being a queer women in a still mainly male dominated industry, so she's an "easier" target.

Honestly, her female and queer characters being "impure/imperfect" is literally part of why I love them so much, they're human (well, demons) first and women and/or queer second. That's usually how you write the best characters, because when you write the woman/queer part first, so many writers fall into the trap of making them "pure/perfect" and THAT is how you dehumanize us.

And, sorry not sorry, but I'd rather vibe with a creator who's openly pro-trans rights, pro-LGBTQ+ rights in general, pro-women rights, anti-Trump, ect. (she shares those kinda things basially daily on her Instagram stories) than listen to anything these haters cry about.

Speaking of the trans thing, it says a lot about these haters that they'd rather believe fake "evidence" of her being transphobic than the words directly from a trans person's mouth (Morgana, aka Sallie May) who's friends with Viv and has to constantrly keep reminding people how supportive she is of trans rights.

I ship romantic moonwater. I'm a multi-shipper and will support anything with enough evidence (within reason) and i ship romantic moonwater and I am not ashamed.

I don't think Sirius is at fault for running away, and i automatically click off a fic if it is portrayed in that way (except for if it's reggie's POV bc hes obvs gonna be an unreliable narrator in that respect.

I don't think remus was a chocoholic i think he just carried it around cos it seemed to make everyone happy when he gave them chocolate when they were feeling down

Remus had a good relationship with both his father and mother, but he struggled to talk to his mother about lyancrothropy because she was genuinely scared of him around the full moon because she read the wizarding worlds books on werewolves. (don't blame her shes a muggle guys)

Walburga wasn't physically abusive, orion was (ill write more about this if people want cos i've got a whole rant about my thoughts on this.)

Barty was a ravenclaw, but an honorary slytherin due to the amount of time he was there (him stealing one of reggie's ties in 1st year may have a part to play)

I think the Black sister's relationship is more interesting than the black brother's mainly because i barely ever see it explored

Sirius was not a bad brother. Regulus was. (that's all im going to say on this cos i don't wanna get hated on)

I love Regulus Black with all my heart but he had loads of flaws that are never explored

This is vaguely unrelated but I had a friend who i had to unfollow and then later kinda cutoff bc she was making posts about how trans men oppress trans women because "men oppressing women is feminism 101" and it's like,,, buddy idk how to tell you this but trans people of any sort don't have the societal power as a class to oppress other trans people... like ur looking at this in such a clinical mathematical fucking pokemon battle way instead of how it is in real life!! Either way, I wouldn't say they 'haven't transitioned' because they still could have transitioned socially by dressing differently, using new pronouns, changing their name, etc. They just may not be taking hormones, getting surgery, etc.
