A very important thing to me about the batfam magical girl AU is that the rest of the characters are classic dc comics characters. Which means that while they have many similarities (magical girls are like lantern corps with more glitter and less police anyway, and the magical batfam story can get really dark and tragic at times), they're constantly faced with the clash between comics logic and magical girl anime logic. By which I mean:

Super fun hijack dynamic of Hiccup just constantly giving Jack what would be heart attacks if his was still beating.. like, he (to his knowledge) can't die twice. At least not from things like blunt force trauma, but Hiccup is very, painfully mortal and is constantly toeing the line of what the human body is capable of surviving.

a very harsh gentle reminder that the majority of the pjo fandom hates on Jason for literally existing and accusing him of treating Percy/Leo badly because he was joking around with them, but defending Luke like crazy after he asked annabeth, a minor whom he saw as a sister if she loved him, manipulated and potentially groomed a minor girl into giving him information, made annabeth hold up the sky for 24 hours, made her cry multiple times and tried to kill Percy throughout the books because "poor baby like has such a bad past can u blame him uwu 🥺" well yeah so does jason so what's your point. We all know y'all don't hate him bc he's "boring" you hate him because he rivals Percy and it shows, because your arguments of who's a good person and who's not does NOT line up.

the thing that fucks me up about zosopp is that while Zoro gets more serious and jokes around less as the series goes on, Usopp is still a little jokester. He still tells stories and plays with Luffy and Chopper- he knows when to get serious, but he also knows when to have fun.

And I bet it eats him up inside, seeing the man he loves slowly lock that part of himself away for the sake of being a strong and unwavering presence for the crew. How Zoro is constantly burdened with thoughts of how to keep the crew alive- how to best train to keep his crew alive. How he doesn't leave room for much else.

He makes room for Usopp though. For their crew- their family. And Usopp vows (hopes) to force him to make room for fun, too.

the more I think about it like. Smith had the whole thing in the boxing ring trying to convince Isami not to go charging out on his own even if he thought bringing other people would endanger them, bc nobody wants to just sit around and be saved. but considering what happened in the bad end and all (and only slightly less so this time around) he clearly just meant don't charge off alone without me.

Sort of a ramble, sort of me just writing my thoughts out while I'm stuck with writer's block, but I keep thinking about how Fulcrum was in stasis for roughly 3 million years??

Like, that's a long time, even for Cybertronians. Not a really long time, not an entire lifespan. But still, it's a large chunk of a normal lifespan just gone. Poof.

One second you're crawling across the pockmarked terrain of an alien planet, surrounded by the sound of gunfire, and the shouting and screaming before and after each earth shuddering impact of another k-con hitting the ground. And then it's quiet. You're not there anymore. You're drifting somewhere between not alive and just asleep. Preserved somewhere in the background of a doomed body, ignored by time and space, still here, but also not.

And then there's sound. Not gunfire. Not shouting or screaming. Not the sounds that'll haunt you till your dying days, your own death sentence pounding in your head. No. Just voices, talking, standing out against a silent, dead world. Wondering. Joking. Bickering. Familiar. Just, not familiar to you. And you're awake. Pulled back from the nothingness you've been frozen in, consciousness tugged forwards with the yank of a fuel pump and the nearness of life.

These two moments are roughly 3 million years apart, but only minutes, maybe even seconds, to him. From a hectic harrowing battlefield, to an old silent graveyard in one blink.

How long did it take to really sink in? I mean, he seems to just roll with it. He doesn't seem particularly bothered. But like, what happened outside of what we see? How did he really feel?

Also, his body aged without him. While his mind preserved itself, freezing him as he was right then, his body was left to weather Clemency for all those years. No wonder it crumbled to dust when he jumped off the world sweeper. It's probably a miracle of some kind that it didn't just fall apart each time someone leaned on him.

And even after they rebuild him, give him a better, newer body. His spark, it's casing, all the irreplaceable core bits that make up their inner bodies, it aged in the time without him. Does he feel it? Does it make his body even more foreign to him?

Then he's also a technician with information that's 3 million years out of date. Lucky him that the scavengers probably weren't working with top of the line material. But still it's gotta be weird when faced with anything brand new, because a lot can change and progress in 3 million years, and now some of the knowledge he once prided himself in is obsolete.

Besides those things, his view of the galaxy, of the war, of their kind, of other kinds, is one of the few things actually pointed out when it comes to him being stuck in the past. So, how often were his old views challenged? Facts of life he held close proved to no longer true? There's 3 million years worth of new science, new beliefs, new words, new terms, new views.

And sure, some of it can be familiar, because they're an ever evolving kind, and they have patterns, core beliefs, repeating behaviors, but a lot of it's gonna be unfamiliar at the same time, because it's 3 million years worth of catch up, it's not like missing last week's trend.

In a way, it makes him a living relic of a bygone era for Decepticons. It would've been really interesting to have had that explored a little more.

Y'all the point of pointing out that Tamlin does, textually, have "good" or even pretty understandable and somewhat sound reasons for how he acts is NOT to say he's a uwu innocent bby boy.

The point is that he has reasons for how he acts and his abuse is still not excusable.

Many people argue that Rhysand's abuse is excusable, or that it isn't even abuse at all, because he has "good reasons." But if Tamlin also has "good reasons", and his abuse still is not ok, then Rhysand, too, is not exonerated by having "good reasons" and he also needs to be called out for his abuse if this series is genuine in its desire to discuss abuse and it's not just being discussed for clout and clicks.
